#I mean. I Could make separate tags.
Possible New AO3 Tags!!
So, I think we all know that the ao3 tag situation is...not ideal. You have basically two choices for tags: Age Regression/De-aging (which is technically meant for physically regressed/de-aged characters, not agere) or Non-sexual Age Play (which is...the wrong thing). Both of these tags are inaccurate for our community, but we have used them because its as close as we can get. It's even gotten to the point where Age Regression/De-aging has wrangled everything under the sun for agere (agere, age regression, regression, and every tag we make complaining about our tag situation). So! I have two possibilities for new tags we can use!
🧸Inner Child Therapy🧸
this one is probably the most obvious choice? at least it is to me lol inner child therapy is another, more clinical name for agere, so it would be a good choice. it's also not currently used for anything on ao3 (Healing the Inner Child is a tag, but not currently one with more than i think 3 fics, and it's not a common tag, so it would more than likely get wrangled, but I think it'd be okay)
with this one, we would also have the option to use secondary tags like we use with Age Regression/De-aging currently (think how a lot of fics use "Age Regression Little [Character]" tags, we could use something like "Inner Child Little [Character]" instead)
i think inner child therapy as a term would also help with the stigma around agere because it really...can't be confused with anything else? not as far as i can make out anyway lol
a con toward this would be that not many ppl currently know this as a term, and therefore it would be hard to implement
🖍Crayonfic🖍
i just think this one is cute. like we're all just out here writing our fics in crayon to share with each other hehe
in my head, this would even be able to include a whole tagging system using diff crayon colors to mean different things (when i was thinking of this concept, i was thinking along the lines of pink crayon = fluff, blue = angst, green = whump, purple = romantic, orange = platonic, white = diapers, etc etc etc etc)
it just so cute in my head lol, and it would definitely be easy to separate from the current tags
a con toward this one is just that it could be confusing to try to implement and i could see it getting wildly out of hand and complicated if we aren't careful with it
No matter what, it will absolutely be a struggle to change tags to get away from what we have right now. In order for any sort of new tag, one of these or something else, to work we would all have to agree not to crosstag. When tagging fics, you would *not* be able to tag it with the old tags and one of the new ones because it would more than likely result in the new tag getting wrangled and then we're back to square one. It would have to be a community effort to get it explained *why* things are different, now, and how to find fics. It would also be a struggle to get authors of older works to maybe switch their tags out so that new readers can find them more easily under a new tag.
These are just my ideas, and I'd love to open the discussion up to you guys!! If there's any other ideas for tags, I'd love to hear them!!!

What is your favourite thing about Billie Lurk?
(Answers are obvious possibly but i love when people talk about her👍)
thanks for the ask!! YEAH ME TOO I love when people talk about Billie! I can't say I have a favourite thing specifically, but I can explain why she's my fav. apologies for not taking this qn literally, but -
short answer: she’s really cool
& you can stop reading there, or, for the maybe 2 mutuals who might have time to read this my thoughts on her as a character, her meta, and her character as raw potential...
long answer:
i considered making this entire thing a gush so you could read a gush about Billie. but, part of what draws me to her is that she’s not always well written, and in fandom she’s underrated for a literal protagonist.
since you ask...
billie is a cool character
when I played Dh2 (hadn't played Dh1), I was excited to see a black woman with disabilities who was captaining a massive ship by herself. wow.
then I discovered Billie’s backstory with Deirdre, the way she responded to that, then having to survive while living on the run, and her bisexuality. as well as her history with daud & delilah. fascinating!
she’s an outsider who has so much to lose, and knows what it's like to lose everything - having lost everything not once but three times - but nevertheless speaks truth to power. she's so brave! she went and helped Emily & Corvo and she must have known they might kill her! plus, she’s smart, she’s funny, she gets shit done, she’s gorgeous.
but... the meta
mild critique of fandom & arkane incoming.
skip this bit if you want - you've been warned twice now - jump to tired Hayao Miyazaki and read from there if you'd like my thoughts on writing her.
i thought Death of the Outsider was going to be amazing and then... well. *sad trombone* i've written about that before so i won't keep banging on. i figured others must be disappointed too, so I joined a few fandom spaces in hopes of finding camaraderie.
most people with complaints about DotO didn’t like how the Outsider and Daud were handled. which is valid & I agree. but it seemed like most paid no attention to Billie; when people talk about her it’s with respect to Daud, as opposed to in her own right. you could argue for fandom misogyny because people don’t talk about adult Emily Kaldwin that much either, but in Billie's case, it’s misogynoir (compare & contrast with the popularity of thomas, particularly the popularity of thomas portrayed as a white man for no particular reason that i've been able to discern - i keep asking around, is it in the books???).
i think this is a LOT better now than it used to be, which is fantastic. or perhaps i have found the correct echo-chamber? ha.
ultimately, The Fandom is a fraction of the entire picture, and not even the important bit since The Fandom is not who these games are made for. you can't make money relying on only your hardcore fans even if all of them spent a fortune on merch, this is true for any AAA game.
while it's true that Billie is underrated from a fandom perspective - but Billie as an underwritten protagonist is squarely Arkane’s fault.
it was reasonable when she was a side character - the lack of info in Dh2 makes perfect sense (if anything there was more lore in Dh2 which is kind of wild)-
- but as a protagonist in Death of the Outsider?
.... there’s lousy writing, and there’s whatever is going on with Billie Lurk, a black woman who mostly exists as a foil or saviour for light-skinned characters. In her own game there’s barely any of her own lore except where it's relevant to saving two dudes.
lore hints at, but barely touches on what race means in the Dh universe (xenophobia is stronger in Dh1; separate essay i guess), but Arkane has patted themselves on the back for portraying non-white characters, which feels like the same thing as the aesthetic of diversity we're seeing in advertising currently because it’s in marketing trend guides. it's self-congratulatory and it's a missed opportunity for deeper storytelling.
you can see an example of diversity at its most shallow in the way that Billie’s written: there’s little engagement with her as an entire person with history & wants & preferences, and the world she walks through in that game feels like it has nothing to do with her. you could make a case for alienation as a theme, but then, how do you handle the titular premise of 'Dishonored' without ever letting Billie make changes in an environment without a chaos system? it's disappointing from that angle too.
in my opinion, whatever it's worth, it was an accident Arkane created such an awesome character - they needed someone to betray daud. congrats billie.
all this said, it makes her an underdog as far as characters to enjoy & create art & stories for. it's nice to find so many like-minded, switched on people! <3
billie's character potential
she’s got a wealth of unexplored lore, being deeply intertwined with both Karnaca & Dunwall’s fates & criminal underbellies, as well as her connections to the witches & whalers, and three Empresses.
she’s lived a few distinct lifetimes and in the games we get to meet her at two peaks (KoD & DotO) & a low (Dh2 as Meagan).
her voice is very distinct, her dry & often dark humour is entertaining & fun to write. her perspective is really interesting - she’s had the widest variety of void-powers of anyone canonically, and she’s also lived through the highest highs and lowest lows.
she's got everything going for her :) i couldn't really pick a fav thing!

Okay i have yet to see a post about this that isnt filled with ppl being Annoying as Fuck on it, but,
theyve found wreckage of the submersible, it imploded (thank god, thats better than a drawn out suffocation over the course of several days, implosion means it was pretty much instantaneous) and the us navy have revealed they heard a weird sound on sunday from about where communication with the sub was lost, that was probably the sound of the implosion, [implied that they didnt say anything cos they didnt want to jump to conclusions without evidence of a wreckage, if there was a chance they were still alive.] no idea what the banging sounds were.
I do hope rescue efforts are extended to the migrants off the coast of greece, and am angry and horrified at their mistreatment, and that the media clearly cares less for their fates than that of the billionaires on the sub.
also, while i have you here,
The difference between a submersible and a submarine is not that one is safer. The titan was a submersible that was unsafe, but that is not because it was a submersible.
A submarine (or sub) is a watercraft capable of independent operation underwater.
A submersible is a watercraft designed to operate underwater, usually supported by a nearby surface vessel, platform, shore team or sometimes a larger submarine.
submarines generally dont go as deep as our deepest submersibles, but some can be down there for months at a time bc it is like. a self sufficient Ship. not all submersibles can go crazy deep, but to my knowledge, the only crewed vessels that can go that deep, are submersibles. (Alvin, deepsea challenger, limiting factor, trieste, fendouzhe or "striver").

Hands you a lolipop and a very glittery card
Happy Valentines!
I was going to give everyone worms..but I heard this is better!
-🧠🪱
*Kim lulls her head to the side, blinking down at her for a second as she stares at the extended gifts.*
Oh... Thank you, actually. That's really sweet.
*She takes them gently, smiling down at them a little once they're in her hands, although she tries to be as careful as possible with the card.*
Yeah, worms probably wouldn't go over great with... most people.
Ya know, normally I'd give you problems about the glitter, but you're the first person to say something to me about it today.
*She peels back the plastic on the lollipop and sticks it in her mouth, giving a small hum.*
Mn, hpe I get mor' 'f these... bett'r th'n chocolate, 'n my opinion.
*The words are slightly muffled around the sugary treat, so Kim pulls it back out for a moment as she tilts her head to the side, considering that statement.*
Well, better than most chocolate. Not a fan of the milky kind.

Show! Me! The blorbo!
god damn you people work fast
alright but if i get bullied for it i'm lighting up the nearest cracker barrel stg
this fucker.
i'm pretty sure he only shows up in like 4 episodes and yet each time i see him my brain does something between a "." and a "!" like. "man acknowledged." watching this man is like watching a beetle or perhaps a moth. i know nothing of who he is or his thoughts. i know not why he's only here for a short time or why they use him so often for that short time. I don't even remember his name. I just know my neurons fire up when observing him in this show to a point where I may turn my attention from what I am doing while the show is on the background to watch He.
This is the epitome of Just Some Guy. This is white bread with barely any butter. This is a plain white tshirt but with a pocket on the front. This is a guy you see in a starbucks and find yourself staring at as you wait in line, wondering who he is and what kind of life he lives. This is a guy you match with on Tinder and you have to take a good 10 to 15 seconds to wonder if he's actually cute or if he simply looks inoffensive enough that the absence of any negative reaction counts as positive in your mind. He is basic and plain and simple and for some fucking reason his pure neutrality in and of itself captivates me.
I cannot tell for the life of me if my fascination with this guy is romantic, platonic, purely intellectual, or what. I think it may transcend that tbh. I think this feeling is the epitome of passing human connection. It's bumping into a stranger, having a pleasant 3 word interaction, and forever wondering if you could have kept the conversation going, longing to know what potential for friendship or closeness could have been realized, but knowing you will never get that chance again, and a stranger they will remain. It's looking at someone and wanting to know what the fuck their deal is, what actions they have taken in their life to come to your field of vision, directly in line with your ever curious, burning gaze. He's only been in so many episodes, but he is just so fucking normal that it's almost familiar, comforting to see him. It's like a brand of mac n cheese you've never tried that you know is going to taste the exact same as all the others. It's reading coffee shop au fanfic and basking in the simplicity. It's like a blanket at a hotel that's somehow just as warm and fluffy as one you keep at home. Familiar in that which you've never seen before. Basking in the few constants of the chaotic universe we live in. For me it just so happens to be dorky glasses wearing blonde twinks that are a dash of fruity.
either that or this would be normal blorbo territory for me save for the fact that i just finished watching neon genesis evangelion and it has been Affecting How I Perceive Characters.

Side Order of Coral
Some random information on corals that may or may not relate to the Splatoon 3 DLC (Side Order)! We don’t have any real idea what the story is going to be about, but I guess it can be food for thought. Included pictures from the trailer and corals, so it got a little long...
Under the cut it goes!
First, all corals are made up of polyps; the majority of these tiny organisms make an exoskeleton at their base made of calcium carbonate. They’re actually related to jellyfish and anemones! Most corals are a colonial organism, meaning they are made up of hundreds to hundreds of thousands of polyps living in a group. There are two main sub-classes of coral, depending on how many tentacles each polyp has; six (Hexacorallia) or eight (Octocorallia). Hexacorallia includes the hard corals, while Octocorallia includes the soft. Most corals can photosynthesize, but they also eat plankton or small animals that get stung by the nematocysts on the polyps’ tentacles, in the same manner as jellyfish. Feeding usually happens at night when the polyps stick out of their pockets in the body of the coral.
When you think “coral”, you probably think of colorful coral reefs. Most of these types get their colors from a type of symbiotic organism called “zooxanthellae”! They live with the coral, inside the tissues of the polyps, where they’re protected and thereby able to photosynthesize. The largest part of the nutrients produced by the zooxanthellae’s photosynthesis (almost 90%) is taken in by the coral, and allows the polyps to grow and reproduce, expanding the coral reef. However, most of the corals we saw in the trailer are bleached; this can happen for a variety of reasons, such as pollution, rising water temperatures, or other stress on the coral, which causes the polyps to expel the zooxanthellae and lose their color. If they go long enough without their zooxanthellae, the coral eventually dies.
[Image of the main Octoling standing in a strange, white Inkopolis Square. The coral in the background is bleached and crumbling.]
When a coral dies, it leaves behind its skeleton. This skeleton is covered in tiny holes, showing where the polyps used to be.
[Image of a blue coral skeleton, covered in little holes the polyps used to live in. Blue coral is the only octocoral known to form a stony body.]
[Image from the SO trailer; foreground object looks like a skull, but with far too many holes. Possible coral skeleton.]
Slight side note, but as anemones also get their colors from their zooxanthellae, I thought it was interesting that Annie (in Inkopolis Plaza) also appears to be losing her color. Her hair is much paler than it was in the first game, suggesting the effects we see in Side Order may be making their way around...
[Image comparing Annie in Cooler Heads from the first game (left) to the thrid game’s DLC (right).]
Onto coral types! Stony corals, as the name would suggest, build themselves a hard skeleton. These are the types that form the coral reefs, and come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes. They tend to prefer nutrient-poor water with access to lots of sunlight, relying on their zooxanthellae for a large portion of their nutrients. The majority of stony coral polyps are Hexacorallia, meaning their polyps have six tentacles each. We saw at least one hard coral in the trailer; the brain coral! As the name suggests, they have a winding growth pattern that makes their surface look like a brain. We’ll get back to this in a moment!
[Image of a type of bleached brain coral]
[Image of the brain-like object (probably coral) from the SO trailer]
Soft corals, for the most part, do not form a rigid skeletal structure. They tend to form a tougher core with a fleshy exterior for protection, and as a result are more flexible than stony corals. The are also colonial, but don’t form reefs; however, they are still part of the reef ecosystem. Some types can also survive and thrive in the deep sea, getting their nutrients by filter feeding as they sway in the current instead of zooxanthellae. All soft coral polyps are Octocorallia, as they have eight tentacles.
This, of course, could have a potential connection to another eight-tentacled someone who happened to spend some time in the Deepsea...
Returning to our brain coral thought; corals also have their own nervous system! Their nervous system is of the most simple type, lacking a brain, and is referred to as a “nerve net”. This net connects all the polyps, allowing them to transmit impulses in any direction; it is also what allows anemones and jellyfish to swim, though slowly and largely at the mercy of the current. Further, the nerve net of cnidarians (corals, jellyfish, anemones, etc.) is thought to be the evolutionary precursor to bilaterian nervous systems; those involving a central nervous system with a brain. There are a few instances of nerve-like images, which also bear resemblance to some types of sea fan (a soft coral), and could tie into a potential “experiment”-based story line (similar to Octo Expansion).
[Image from Side Order trailer; pink lines creep down the white walls and over the black ground in a similar manner to veins or nerves.]
Finally, polyps reproduce either sexually (via spawning) or asexually, budding off clones of themselves to grow their main body/skeleton. Cloning can also happen with fragmentation, when a chunk of the coral is broken off by a storm/etc., and the colony begins to from a separate colony. As we saw clones in the trailer, this ties in nicely to our ongoing coral theme.
[Image of what appears to be clones of the main Octoling; the ones farther back are bleached.]
We don’t yet know what this DLC is going to be about, but coral, and coral imagery, features heavily in the trailer. All of it is dead.

The island being alive is so!!! Rahhhh!! I love the concept so much!
The idea that it will give you everything, make you happy, and then take even more from you. It's so interesting! Always loved the sorta Neverland vibe that the island gives. A place you never have to leave and can be happy and explore every day...but watch out!
not to bring it back to tubbo’s wall street metaphors but the island really invests in its residents and generates entities and natural challenges that the players will enjoy just to keep them there, it really is such a give and take. the way it learns what each player desires, improving itself and going steps above every time to better the experience for the players and keep them around. it’s so very neverland it’s quite seahaven island too
if the island is alive my theory is that the federation is there to study it. the island is some paranormal being and the federation has been established on the island and prodding at it for much, much longer than the players have been there. i think it’s possible that the crashes in this case were not accidental (which. idk how hot that take is tbh) but instead the island causing them in some bermuda-triangle type maneuver to get somebody, anybody else looking at what the federation is doing. still incredibly possible that the federation caused every crash because they wanted to see how the island would interact with people— sidenote i saw this theory somewhere (i think on here pls let me know if it’s you i’ll link the post) that the ice block batch of players are actually the original players from the trailer because the island’s infrastructure looks so different between the trailer and when our initial sixteen batch joined which is delicious meta that’s so interesting, n makes it possible that the federation brought that first ice block batch and the island knows what happened to them and then crashed a train and a boat and a plane to rally up players to find them

Nothing makes me angrier than someone who can look at the beautiful, grotesque, terrifying thing that is life on this planet and decide that actually we need to waste billions of dollars completely fucking up the foundations of every ecosystem because there's one thing they think is icky. And then still claim that they love nature.

‘ i honestly believed in you . ’ @ lilia !
FEARLESS (TAYLOR’S VERSION) SENTENCE STARTERS PART ONE
@flovverworks
Blood-red eyes pierced the fading darkness, stabbing through Akira’s gaze like their words deserved to die. Yet they didn’t…Those held nothing but emotions warranted to berate the short warrior, and while he wanted to tell them off for not even knowing the first thing about how difficult all this had been, Lilia kept his mouth shut. Akira probably knew that too, and could only imagine all the emotions swirling within Lilia at the moment.
How could these foreign wizards look up to him anyways, when he was just a stranger unbound by the technicalities of their lands and unwavering in his forceful way of interacting? He had practically jump scared every wizard in the mansion - at least, the ones who could be easily scared, and took precautions so no wizard would accidentally try to kill him upon reflex - and invaded all of their spaces with his endless curiosity and wonderment. And yet they were all varying levels of willing when it came to helping him get home, and even complimented him on his battle prowess and other unique skills. Training together, palling around, walking through various locations in order to teach him so many things - it almost felt like he was back at Night Raven College, or in the distant past with Malleus and Silver in Briar Valley. Doting on the younger wizards, watching trainees work hard every day towards their goals, and helping whip everyone into shape while also having a big dose of fun for himself. It almost made him let his guard down completely around them all.
Almost. Because, especially in a foreign land, you couldn’t be too careful about what unknown dangers lurked in the shadows. But Lilia never expected to lose against such forces. It was a request of monster extermination and supply protection given to the wizards that had more than they were prepared for, and of course blood was going to be shed because of it. Lilia just wished it had been his own, not Shino and Heathcliff trying to both protect each other and their newfound friend. Not knowing how exactly to use his magic against these foes, especially when he was still getting used to his new way of summoning it up in this world, proved a failure at the worst of times. It was desperation, after Shino had gotten so injured yet could barely stand, that made Lilia grab onto the two of them and teleport them back to the mansion. “Mission be damned,” he had said in front of a surprising crowd, leaving the injured wizards in front of Akira without another word before teleporting back to the den of monsters. It was barbaric then, after having sneaked a sword from the mansion, that he decided that none of these things should be kept alive. Supplies be damned; materials be damned; his own magic and wellbeing be damned; if blot worked in this world, he would certainly find out after quelling the rage in his heart with fresh deaths mounting on a long since abandoned counter. He wondered how impressed his queen would be to see these masses slaughtered so quickly, or would she shiver under a long forgotten thirst for war? Would Malleus and Silver try to stop his outrage with their own magic or persuasion? Would he even listen to them anymore?
All questions came and left as swift as the fight itself, yet the aftermath of both weighed heavy on him. His clothes were soaked in areas, but with the monsters’ blood or his own he wasn’t sure, yet didn’t care either way. He felt every ache in his body, emotional and physical, yet at once felt nothing at all but the gaping feeling of defeat. For he had promised to lead them and protect them, with that cheeky confidence he loved to wear, and yet he…
He slashed the sword through the air, all the blood that was on it practically becoming daggers hitting the nearby trees, before he began walking in the direction he pleased. He didn’t mind being lost in the woods for a millennia. Just as long as he took a nice walk to calm himself, that was what mattered. No thoughts of going home - to either home, for Malleus and Silver would be so disappointed in him, and Akira was certainly too busy to worry about him now. No thoughts at all, really. Just a walk until he could breathe and think again like normal.
And it was in the breaking dawn before he could do so, though he can’t help but think that Akira’s shouts from behind him also snapped him out of whatever darkness had possessed him, taking a deep breath in and out once the sage started speaking. And Lilia listened intently, yet didn’t dare turn around, instead taking his wand from his jacket’s chest pocket and staring at the tiny jewel inside. Dirty with dried blood, but underneath showed a shining green that stood the test of time. It was in his surprise at the small sight that Akira’s words struck him, turning quick on his heel to reveal the severity of his physical state - disheveled beyond belief, caked in dirt and dried blood, cuts and bruises that littered his body. Yet it was all deserved; another scene of a fight well fought, yet a sentence that painted out his failure in his heart.
Any anger in him leaves with a soft gust of wind, all tension leaving his body as he continues to stare at the other, before looking done at his wand once more. “...I honestly did too.” muttered soft enough for another gust to carry it away, before pocketing his wand in a neat way that would make Silver chastise his sloppy appearance less. “All the more reason that I should get out of your hair sooner rather than later. I'm completely unreliable in my current state, though I am impressed with how well I did with this after so many years.” He looks over to the sword in his hand, raising it to inspect it - tip now dirty from being dragged through the ground - before doing impressive slashes and stabs in the direction of a nearby tree. If he could sheathe it, he would, but he just decides to stab it into the ground so as to never hold it again. “...Are Shino and Heathcliff recovering well? Sleeping like two babes while holding each other's hands, I would imagine?” An optimistic way of avoiding all the negatives, at least in Lilia’s mind, mustering up whatever smile he could for the sage as arms crossed over his chest. Akira would’ve taken care of them well, and they certainly would’ve taken care of each other through their bond, so he’s sure that they survived the night at the very least. If they had perished, though, Lilia was certain that all the creatures in the forest would be gone in the blink of an eye. Though he would certainly teleport Akira far away so as to not become collateral, for no matter how much they may hate Lilia now, Lilia couldn’t truly hate them yet.
