been reading a good chunk of dp fic lately, and was wondering if Unova might have certain otherwise-benign phrases it's a taboo (or faux pas, at least) to use when the dragons are active, ala how “I Wish…” is treated in Amity Park. or, *alternatively*, should only be used in serious, important matters (“It is my Ideal that Mother will survive her cancer” “It is my Truth that I will fight for my child to live in a world that respects xeir Identity”, etc)

for the former, perhaps considering it a rude or presumptuous burden to saddle The Good Of Truth Itself with a mortal’s minor inconvenience, or worse, in the other direction, risking having the god Itself hear your declaration and come down from the skies in a flaming meteor of screaming civilians and feathers to get, idk, your quarterly business profits to go up an extra 0.1% or whatever.

tourists and immigrants might get side-eyed a lot if they come from like, Galar (if you prefer them both having the same language ala the US and UK), or learn the language through a book or app developed by someone that's not Unovan translating a common phrase normal anywhere else that doesn't have to deal with said dragons actually living there.

on the other hand, now I'm thinking about the latter option and if swearing to The Dragons would likely be incorporated into ceremonies like weddings, or only really in the legal (and possibly business) world. for the happy couple to pronounce Their Shared Ideals and a priest to Confirm the Truth of their joining. or for there to be a lot of symbolism in engagement/wedding band colors. (technically blank and white aren't colors but shh)

ooh! a band with half of a coupling shape on it instead of (or carved from) a gem, and in the ceremony your partner slides the opposite on, which latches into the curvature and locks the black and white into place together… 👀👀👀👀 (of a similar note, to keep both dragons equal in importance, when engaged you wear a white band on one hand and the black on the other, then in the ceremony the couple (or the priest) slide the Truth Band from each person into the Ideal Band on their betrothed.

it is kind of funny writing commentary in fics about the differences between Cal and Cere's fighting styles when Cal's fighting style is....technically dependent on how good of a gamer you are and I am a Bad gamer XD 'Cal over-relies on a few key practiced moves, while Cere is more fluid, natural' yeah because there was actual fight choreography involved in Cere's fight in Fallen Order, and not just me button-mashing and doing the same thing over and over in the hopes it actually works this time XD

like I think it works thematically and idk this paragraph might end up getting cut, but it is just kind of funny to be like, trying to reflect on canon and how to describe it and then having to be like 'well…that might be on me...'

#my poor skills should not reflect on Cal...but in this case they do haha #sorry Cal my bad #it works tho so I'm keeping the description (for now)#writing problems #specifically fallen order writing problems #also i mean i know you briefly play from Cere's POV in survivor so I'd probably have the same button mashing style problem XD #but i think it does work at least with the comparison in Fallen Order between Cere fighting at the end and player-as-Cal #and generally the difference between someone who might be out of practice but was a master and a half-trained teenager #but yeah file this alongside that post i made years ago like #'i've had cal for five minutes and if anyone hurt him...' but the one hurting him is me being bad at video games #and falling off of things #i think i am improving someone i have SOME strategy now i'm not just slowing and then striking until they un-slow rinse and repeat

Tried to make Colombian hot chocolate for the first time since childhood today. And let me tell you, I understand why mankind invented instant hot chocolate powder now.

#I don’t remember the last time but I know it was years ago and with my grandma #Unlocked a memory of just mixing it with the molinillo which I completely forgot existed until like last week lmao #The recipe said it’s sooooooo easy you can make it in five minutes #Me forty five minutes later still stirring #That was like a whole arm workout damn #But it tasted great so #Worth it #Gonna make it again on Christmas Eve to go with the buñuelos #Hoping it surprises my grandma #hot chocolate #Colombia

#i hate when i'm reading a book sometimes and it's clear that the author can Write but the book is shit #didnt think much of it until i got my hands on song of achilles a couple months ago and was so excited to read it #because my mom really liked it #and when i finished it i was left with the feeling of Well that was definitely A Book !#but the more i thought about it the more i realized how given to gender roles the story was and how it was overall very mediocre #apart from the appeal of the more obviously queer retelling #and i realized how much i hated it lol #i get why straight people like it. esp straight women #but if you think about the portrayal of achilles/patroclus's relationship critically for more than five minutes then #it becomes obvious how stereotypical and just plain bad it is?#anyway i went off on a tangent here but point being. it sucks when people have skill but no vision. you need both to be considered talented #13 #edit i did not put my thoughts across clearly at all LOL but yeah that's why i put it into the tags

#because we celebrate on christmas eve #so christmas day is like. the day after christmas #and we call the 23rd ‘little christmas eve’#Usually a day filled with anticipation for us celebrating. Today however I am working until 9pm #and then have to drive a terrifying 30 minutes in the dark to where we’re celebrating this year #(we’re celebrating in a nice little countryside house with my mum’s fiancée whom she met less than five months ago)#(WOW that’s one hell of a sentence isn’t it)
