#I have so much respect for people who can draw mlp ponies

What kind of Pony (mlp) I think the BSD characters would be:
!Spoiler warning for a small spoiler for Chuuya’s backstory/Stormbringer!
TWs: Short and very slight mention of lab experiments on a person/pony, very short and slight mention of manipulation, Mori being Mori. Nothing is described in a very detailed way though.
The first TW is a reference to Chuuya’s backstory/stormbringer and the other two are…Mori being Mori. I think you know how he is.
Dazai: Unicorn.( He would have become an Alicorn if he would have stayed with Mori and if he would have finished his training there.) He loves to watch Chuuya fly around.
Chuuya: Alicorn (He was born as a unicorn and due to lab experiments on him he turned into an Alicorn. He can also use extremely powerful magic due to this but loses control over it if he uses too powerful spells.)
Kunikida: Unicorn
Nikolai: Earth Pony but he owns a magic coat. He wishes that he would be a pegasus instead so that he can fly freely over the clouds together with the birds whenever he wants. He feels stuck, being bound to the earth, unable to fly.
Fyodor: Unicorn. Sometimes he uses his magic to let Nikolai float around whenever the other feels blue or even depressed.
Sigma: Earth Pony (Pegasus would suit too but he always references to himself as an “Ordinary man” in the manga so I think him being an Earth Pony would suit the best.)
Bram: Alicorn
Atsushi: Unicorn but he turns into an Alicorn later (He’s the MC so I gave him Twilight Sparkle treatment.)
Akutagawa: Unicorn
Poe: Pegasus (Idk why it just sits right with me.) who possesses multiple magic books which he can use himself or a Unicorn.
Ranpo: Earth Pony
Mushitarou: Unicorn
Kenji: Earth Pony but he’s extremely strong
Shibusawa: Alicorn. I am very unsure about it because him being a Unicorn would suit too but he is canonically overpowered af with multiple abilities and with being half dragon due to his ability so I think an Alicorn would suit the best. Or he is simply a real dragon.
Higuchi: Pegasus (Don’t ask why. It suits her really well in my mind.)
Gin: Unicorn
Tachihara: Unicorn
Lucy: Pegasus
Jouno: Unicorn
Tecchou: Pegasus
Teruko: Unicorn
Lovecraft: He would be either a Mermare or some powerful entity who lives in the sea/is connected to it and only loosely resembles a pony or looks nothing like a pony at all but who can shapeshift into looking a bit more like a normal pony (something about him will always look eerie to other ponies even tho they can’t quite grab what’s off about him.). In his pony form he would be an Earth Pony who can use magic.
Steinbeck: Earth Pony
Louisa: Unicorn
Fitzgerald: Unicorn
Mark: Pegasus or Earth Pony
Fukuzawa: Alicorn (Leader/King of the Kingdom where the ADA characters live. Takes a Princess Celestia kind of role to Atsushi.)
Yosano: Unicorn
Mori: Alicorn (Leader/King of the Kingdom where the PM characters live. Took a Princess Celestia kind of role to Dazai when he was younger but in a twisted and manipulating kind of way before Dazai ran away to the kingdom of Fukuzawa.)
Oda: Earth Pony
Ango: Unicorn
Hirotsu: Unicorn
Kouyou: Earth Pony who is connected to a powerful being (Golden Demon)
Kyouka: Unicorn or Pegasus who is also connected to a powerful being (Demon Snow)
Q (Yumeno): Earth Pony who is connected to a magic doll.
Verlaine: He’s an Alicorn but just like Chuuya he is one due to lab experiments on him. He was born as a pegasus.
Arthur: Unicorn
Elise: She is currently a unicorn but she can become whatever Mori wants her to be. She is currently a unicorn since Yosano and Dazai are both unicorns and she resembles both of them as children/teens.

ok so let me be cringe on main for a minute here (this is a joke btw i know cringe isn't real). odd squad mlp au for your consideration
please ask me questions about this by the way i have so much for this. i'll put some of the basic info (it's a lot more than that now but in my defense it started as a basic summary) and a few more drawings under the cut though please look at it with your eyes thank you
so for some basic explanations we have Olive who is a unicorn, Otto who is a pegasus, Olympia who is a part unicorn earth pony (which i'll explain in a sec), and Otis who is a full blooded pegasus (which i'll also explain the importance of in a moment). i haven't drawn Ms. O, Oscar or Oona yet but they are an alicorn (formerly an earth pony), a unicorn, and an earth pony respectively
Olive and Otto are the only two that i've come up with cutie mark designs for so far (they are so hard to design..) but Olympia and Otis have them too, they just get them mid-season. specifically after the talent show. i'm designing them side by side so that they kinda match because they get them at the same time and also they're besties your honor, but anyways theirs are a little fireworks design and some sort of a swan design because y'know. the ugly duckling story. and also i think part of his talent is dancing and like swan lake exists etc etc. and yes this does mean that he's a little bit scared of his own cutie mark at times but he just tries not to think about it and usually covers it with his wings anyway. all four of their cutie mark meanings are kinda abstract personality trait related things
Olive got hers after stopping the pienado because character development moments, which also kinda means that she's sorta tied to Todd because of this which she Does Not Like. i'll need to make a whole other post about Todd in this au because he's definitely a guy, but anyways while they were partners Olive was a blank flank and despite how good at his job he was Todd was one too and it was like one of the only things they really had in common, but it also ends up being one of the reasons he goes rogue because not only is Todd bored but he's also frustrated because he's tried everything he can think of and won every award he possibly can and he still doesn't have a cutie mark even though he feels like he definitely should by now because this has to be his talent. why would he be so good at it if it wasn't? he doesn't get his cutie mark until after he reforms btw, because before then he was either too certain about his talent being something else or too busy causing trouble to entertain himself that he never really took the time to stop and discover that his actual interest was gardening and that's when he finally gets his cutie mark. in my head i have this alternate version of Otis's tomato speech where when Todd is like "i'm Odd Todd it's who i am" Otis is just like "that's not what your cutie mark says" and it's very silly but anyways i'm gonna circle this back around to Olive real quick
so on top of Todd's cutie mark being in gardening he also has a sort of side meaning as well in the sense that he's a little bit like the CMC and has a sort of knack for encouraging character growth in others whether he realizes it or not because. encouraging plants to grow.. encouraging people to grow... the whole villain rehab thing...... you see what i'm getting at here. but the funny thing is the first pony he really did this to was Olive and it was completely unintentional. he didn't know that she would get her cutie mark by stopping him, at least not consciously, but she did. it probably takes him quite some time before he actually puts together the fact that he's had that talent the whole time.
Otto's cutie mark is a lot sillier. he actually doesn't know how he got it or what it means (as mentioned earlier it's symbolic but he doesn't know that. also shoutout to Shroom aka Evillandscaper for suggesting a paper crane because i did NOT know what i was gonna make it) he just kinda walked into work one day and Olive was like "oh cool you got your cutie mark?" and Otto was just like "WAIT I GOT MY CUTIE MARK?????" cue a whole silly filler episode involving the two of them trying to figure out what it means and also Olive having a crisis over the fact that Otto can do that pegasus thing where they use their wings like cartoon hands. both of these become running bits from then on. also i drew this comic about it and it might be one of my favorite things i've made for this au honestly
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and on the topic of cutie marks as i previously mentioned, Olympia and Otis both get theirs after the talent show and they're also matching a little bit. theirs are also personality things but in addition to that Otis's is also for dancing and Olympia's is for magic, and you may be wondering how an earth pony can be a magic talent and this is where that half unicorn thing comes in!
so Olympia is half unicorn half earth pony which i don't think is too uncommon on its own, but the thing that makes her weird is that she inherited traits from both sides instead of just one over the other, so she actually has unicorn magic but no horn to actually use it with so she's unable to cast actual spells or anything but her magic will kinda spill over at times, especially if she's emotional, and cause things to happen like that one time she exploded into glitter when interviewing Olive or of course the fireworks! she's kind of like the Pinkie Pie character who just does unexplained things sometimes she's just very silly. fun fact in her ref you can see that her mane and tail are sparkly and that's because they kinda just perpetually look like they have glitter in them, but the thing is it's not really glitter it's all just magic. i imagine her coat is like this as well but i just didn't draw it in
also as a side note it came to my attention that she bears an uncanny similarity to Sparkleworks from G3 and i have absolutely no idea how that happened At All. like they have the same cutie mark and everything it's so weird. i've never even watched G3 i'm a G4 kid i legitimately have no clue how the hell this happened. i did make this out of it though
Tumblr media
anyways for Otis, he's a pegasus of course but he's specifically a Cloudsdale weather pegasus, which yes i did make up but hear me out. so basically in my mind pegasi born in somewhere like Cloudsdale are more likely to have weather talents or like. stronger abilities in controlling the weather and such, which means stuff like larger wings and weatherproof wings and feathers to make it easier to deal with storms and stuff like that, so basically all this is just an excuse for me to give Otis waterproof feathers like a duck. but anyways since he was still raised by the ducks he doesn't actually know he's from Cloudsdale or anything so he just thinks he's weird for the feathers thing
okay i have. way more but i'm cutting myself off here so i don't overload everyone with information but anyways, please ask me about them, and also here's some extra drawings i've done of them :3

Valentine, you're a
horse
(rain code pony au. design notes under the cut!)
just as a note, i haven't seen my little pony since i was like. 11. and also i don't think i watched beyond twilight becoming an alicorn. my knowledge of later seasons mostly comes from horsecomix. so if i say anything that contradicts the Horse Lore, sorry about that.
ok now for individual designs.
yuma is a unicorn, mostly because mystery labyrinths require him to be able to hold a sword and talk at the same time. in addition to his memories, he lost his cutie mark in the pact, so everyone who sees him is like "damn you're an amnesiac AND a blank flank? pick a struggle". he doesn't have any accessories by default, but he probably gets a little hat in the rain + his cape in the mystery labyrinth. he was the first pony i drew, so his face looks a little janky. i struggled with drawing the ponies from any angle other than a perfect sideview, and the snouts/mouths were the hardest parts by far. the front view i did for yuma was a bit easier than the 3/4 view i did for most of the cast, but it was still tougher than i expected. pony artists who mimic the style of the show have all of my respect.
shinigami's spirit form was changed a little bit, although it was already so abstracted compared to a real human that i didn't feel i needed to change much in order to make her fit into the pony universe. i just swapped her horns out for wings and gave her a horn. i also removed her thumbs and made her colors closer to her human (er, pony) form. she's no longer a "death god" in the traditional sense, now being the "princess of death" in the same way twilight is the princess of friendship or cadence is the princess of love. she was sealed away because she was shit at her job (just killed a fuckton of people for no reason) but anypony who stumbled across the book she was sealed in can make a contract w her just like in rain code canon. obvi this is a little dark for the actual mlp universe, they wouldn't be putting a trigger-happy murder princess in their rated y cartoon, but this is the same fanbase that made fuckin. cupcakes and rainbow factory and a whole slew of others that make the main characters of mlp infinitely more fucked up than canon shinigami ever was. so i feel like we can have a little suspension of disbelief here.
shinigami's true form is an alicorn, obvi. she's a god princess, she's gonna be an alicorn. i tried to refrain from giving the characters too many accessories to better mimic the simpler mane 6 designs, but shinigami looked so naked with just the crown. so she also got her flower and little necklace. i didn't even attempt to put her hair in braids, since drawing her face at that angle was such a challenge already. upon posting this, i also realize i forgot to give her a tail. just imagine any tail you want on her. pin the tail on the shinigami. her cutie mark has the same dark void effect as nightmare moon's, although i can't remember if luna also has it as well. regardless, it's a visual tie-in to nightmare moon, who has a similar "princess banished to an inanimate object" thing going on. the actual cutie mark itself is two bones, representing death in a cutesy cartoony fashion. i was gonna do a skull and crossbones but then i realized. no one knows what a human skull looks like. there's no people. and i am NOT about to draw a fucking horse skull. so, bones it is.
yakou is probably the one i'm proudest of! i feel like i really captured the essence of the background pony in him. i feel like i could see him hanging out with lyra heartstrings and dr. whooves and i wouldn't bat an eyelash. his hair is a little longer than in the original design but i think it looks cute so it's fine. his cutie mark is an umbrella because his calling as a detective leads him to protect others like an umbrella protects you from the rain, plus kanai ward has its whole Thing. and he can be kind of a gloomy person at times, very pessimistic. he's an earth pony because he's just a normal guy, no forte in canon and stuff like that.
makoto was probably the trickiest to actually design. the element of mystery is super important in the original character design, but he was able to still have some skin exposed since almost all of the character designs in that game have a skintone of "homestuck white". in mlp, where coat colors can be any color of the rainbow (and the colors outside of the rainbow), makoto would lose that element of mystery. so, while i generally try to avoid putting the ponies in clothes, makoto kind of needed them. he's got his full suit and a set of gloves and white shoes for his hooves. instead of being a sort of "paper plate" mask, he's got a rubber halloween mask that extends past his neck instead. don't ask how the mane comes out of the mask. we don't ask how canon makoto's mask stays on with no straps, so don't ask about this one. the mask goes over his horn, so it blocks out most powerful magic, but basic spells like levitation are still possible with a bit of effort. the pants of his suit hide his cutie mark, and when asked about what it is, he gives a different answer each time.
kurumi isn't a super complicated or in-depth design. just a cute lil earth pony with a cutie mark of a speech bubble, since she does a lot of information gathering via talking to others. in hindsight, i should've given her freckles in the same color as her body outline. imagine she has freckles please. thank you.
fubuki is the design where i actually got the courage to attempt a braid. no idea if it looks good, i didn't use a reference and my hair is too short to braid it myself. i wanted an earth pony in the core group of nda members, and i was sort of torn between her and desuhiko. however, i'm a personal believer in the "all ponies can use magic on some level" theory, and that theory posits that earth ponies have a tendency to be able to use the intrinsic magic of their planet in subtle ways. applejack can enhance her physical strength without really doing anything consciously, and most importantly, pinkie pie can bend the laws of reality for The Bit. i think time travel is kinda like bending the laws of reality for The Bit. plus, desuhiko's disguise ability is kinda like an illusion, which feels like more of a unicorn ability. her cutie mark is a clock. because. uh. you know.
desuhiko is a unicorn for reasons i mentioned in fubuki's notes. his backpack is worn like a saddle, but he can still use it to disguise himself like in rain code canon. his cutie mark is the bag with a star on it, hinting that there's a superstar (him) in the bag. not much to say about him other than that.
vivia is a pegasus. since his forte allows him to fly, it makes sense for him to be able to fly in his base form as well - he'd get used to the flight powers inherent to his ability a lot quicker if he could already do it. he's definitely more of a fluttershy than a rainbow dash in terms of how he uses his ability to fly. he prefers to walk, but if his legs get tired, he'll switch to flying for a little bit. but then both his legs and his wings get tired and he takes a little nap. that's what the pose is meant to be, altho it does look a bit like he's flying. his cutie mark is a disappearing flash shape, as his spirit form is invisible and he tends to disappear into the background in general. someone in the rain coat server told me he looks like stoney pony and i haven't been able to get that out of my mind.
halara was the last pony i drew, because i love them and wanted to get as much pony-drawing experience as i could before turning them into an equine. can't have my pookie bear looking like shit! they are also a pegasus, but not for forte reasons like vivia. rather, they just do impressive feats of athleticism on the reg, and i feel like they would be a great flyer as a result. imagine the scene where yuma calls for help while being detained by seth and the peacekeepers. a blue and purple bursts onto the scene from the fucking clouds and halara is divebombing the peacekeepers. that'd be sick as fuck. their cutie mark is an eye, because postcognition is all about sight.
erm ok thats everyone!!! i'm bad at pony names so if anyone has any ideas leave them in the comments or the tags ☺️

Love Witch
Yandere! Entity(DEV) x Reader
Note: He's going to kill me for putting him in an XReader lmao, also, Don't bully MLP, and don't be dumb lol, I actually like the series a little, and my favorite character is Pinky Pie!
Tumblr media
When you were a kid you were an ugly little shit, like, kicking your dad's balls with a butter sock style of ugly, you had the personality of a hyperactive rock and it's worth noting that your social status was "doubtful" to say the least.
Tv, the internet, radio, you name it! was a big part of what shaped you as a person, a semi-normal human person.
Entertainment was like your own mother! Who can blame you when the blue light from the store's computer screen fluttered in the dark like butterflies? the dust particles shimmered like snowflakes in the light, the thought was like a drop of poison shimmering and impacting directly on your loins.
In the first video a house twinkling like a Starfire, there were no people except for the breath of the person recording, it wasn't like a burning house ironically ignited the fire of curiosity in your reptilian brain (lizard brain?), it was something else, the fact that someone would do something so evil, was it an abandoned house or were there people inside? Are the police going to catch the perpetrator and treat them like the scumbag they are?
You breathed hot air, even though the back room was cold as a witch's dick.
The second page was a couple of illustrations
Particularly of a man with his arms and legs missing, you thought he was a man at least, it was just a black background with the white border of the "man",
Quite pixelated, like something taken from the fetishist side of Deviantart and artists of dubious quality, maybe the rawness caught your attention, a drawing made out of pure desire without being modified, the type of object that a Witch of Love physically would use for her Amarres.
Sometimes you feel curious and that curiosity leads you to strange places, like when you looked in the back of the ice cream freezer and saw that.
Curiosity was your seductress, your weakness, you would fight losing battles for curiosity, was it a siren or a succubus with all its nuances from "Where do coins go when you flush them down the toilet" to "On a scale of 1/10 how much does it hurt if I throw myself off the roof?"
you clicked the link dramatically.
It was a My Little Pony forum, an old one, ancient, in the number of active users it only had a sad and meek "1", the image was there with a few others of the same nature, if a little bit more boring, just the process of losing limbs in pixelated white lines, you've seen worse in flash games, to be honest, oh, those good days.
"Sigh"
You muttered unimpressed, Your muse had teased you with her sensuality and left you high and dry.
On the bright side, you were number one in something besides clowns.
DEV666: Hey :)
Apparently, you weren't number one, It was a little surprising that the guy was still active, for that they have your respect, however, a stranger on the internet is still a stranger on the internet, as Shakespeare said once.
Anon#133: Suc my dic
short and to the point, an expression of your repressed feelings, it's been SUCH an exhausting few weeks…
DEV666: Rude, Not the rudest thing I've ever been told, I thought a fellow pony enjoyer would understand the concept of love and friendship, but, as always (in these circumstances), I was wrong.
Anon#133: Lmaoo who likes my little poneys, wht are you, six?
You laughed, nothing brightens your night like antagonizing a My Little Pony fan, maybe your adventures were worth it, the future seemed a little more sparkly.
DEV666: Those girls are a hundred times better than you right now, my dear, if you'll excuse me, I'll leave this conversation here >:(
Anon#133: Draama queen, ponis suck crybabyyyy you write like a grandmaaa
You like to think that you are a reasonable person, it was not very reasonable to send them thirteen more messages with random shit, also the lyrics of David Bowie's Space Oddity and the word "penis" twice at the end...
But hey, you could indulge a little.
...
Another response.
DEV666: That's it, I'm coming for you motherfucker.
With that, you closed the page and turned off the computer, time to go back to work.
The store phone rang
Weirdly, the only ones who call are the police and Snuffy from time to time, although he only breathes on the line, well, you think it's Snuffy, sometimes he whispers in Spanish but when you asked him he told you that he doesn't speak Spanish.
RING RING RING!
You take the phone, and the plastic sits at room temperature on your skin.
"Snuffy?"
Someone was breathing on the phone, again, It sounded robotic, like a talking vacuum cleaner.
"What the fuck"
Seriously, what the fuck, who uses Loquendo these days? that's creepypasta-level bullshit.
You looked at the Jesus-shaped stain on the wall as if it was going to give you an answer.
"My little Pony is for losers"
Bep.
with that, you ended the call.

=0, T.T, ;^), >:3c, and :^* for the cringe edition ask game!
( - postallady)
I'll be answering for alast0r!! ^^
=0 - If you and your f/o were mermaids, what would your tails look like?
i wanted to draw them!! i gave myself two designs bc i couldn't decide xP i might remake them in the future bc i have more ideas but this is it for now!!
Tumblr media
T.T - What show/book/etc from your childhood would you be most excited to show your f/o? What do they think?
hmmmmm.. OOH i'd love to show him the series wings of fire!! and the show little bear!! he probably thinks wings of fire is cool because it's about dragons, but he might not totally understand bc it's a kind of recent series (started 2012 and there are still books being released). he doesn't like TV, so that makes little bear automatically less appealing. but it has a slightly older feel to it, so he might warm up to it, especially because i love it so much :3 my favorite episode is the ghost raccoons episode god the vibes..... he'd appreciate the jazz raccoons for sure and he'd soooo watch it with me :3
;^) - What does your f/o do that makes you melt? What about vice versa?
AUGHH so he has a constant smile regardless of how he feels, so you can see emotion more in his eyes and eyebrows, and when he looks at me his smile stays pretty much the same but his eyes soften so much...................... >_> also when he calls me darling or kisses my hand or cuddles with me or swing dances with me or sings HE HAS SUCH A NICE VOICE :]
he melts when i pet his ears or hug him (with his permission of course) bc you know he's touch starved xP or when i initiate a dance with him, or when i watch him cook or listen to him sing and just hang out there while he does his thing <3 and just when i'm genuine with him :3 and that i respect his boundaries and needs, bc being a terrifyingly powerful overlord tends to make people forget that he has needs :[
>:3c - Do you have any particularly silly headcanons for your f/o?
HMM well it's not confirmed in canon but i think he definitely has a deer tail :3
i also hc that he has ASPD (at least by human standards, im not sure if hell has a DSM) :]
:^* - Who would be your f/o’s favorite character from My Little Pony and why? What about yours?
HEEHEE i haven't seen MLP for a loong time so i cant promise it'll be accurate but i think he'd be fond of discord and fluttershy xP my favorites are rainbow dash and pinkie pie!!
thank you so much for the ask!! <3 ^^

Hiya.
So I’m not the be-all-end-all of all things artsy, but I know the struggle when you’re in that awkward place in which you’ve got some skill and you’ve got a lot of people who will tell you you’re producing good work (because they want to be encouraging – and good on them for that) but when it comes time to actually get people to cough up some cash… crickets – or at least less business than one would hope from people calling the work “wonderful” right?
I mean in some respects the journey of an artist is never really over but I’ll tell you point blank that your art isn’t quite there yet. I’ll be the first to admit mine isn’t either, but I’m cynical enough to kill my darlings and realistic enough to give a sober appraisal for all that’s worth.
1. I don’t think you enjoy drawing, plain jane, humans that much. I can’t tell if you rush through those drawings, you’re less practiced at drawing humans, or a combination of the two but ultimately those pieces look more rough than your anthropomorphic or animal work from what I’m seeing through art only mode.
You would probably benefit from getting some life drawing practice of humans if you want to remedy this. I can tell you’ve been able to glean some insights on what you as an artist can get away with in terms of exaggeration of the human form by watching cartoons and anime – and that certainly has helped. But if that’s your foundation? You run into problems because it’s hard to understand the *why* behind the initial exaggerations.
For example, have you ever sat down and asked yourself what giving a character big alien sized eyes is actually accomplishing for you from a design perspective? Usually it makes a character more “baby-like” and that can elicit endearment for a character in an audience so long as you don’t go uncanny with it.
2. Speaking of design, you’ve only really scratched the surface of it in most respects.
     A. It is one thing when you’re drawing Discord who’s a “solved” character in terms of design or you’re lifting the “solved” design template of ponies in MLP (even if putting your own twist on it and making it your “own” – which isn’t a bad thing mind you). It is an entirely different ballgame when you’re designing something for yourself from scratch. You need to learn what it takes to design a character that’s going to catch the eye and tell an audience exactly what they need to know about them at a glance – not easy. Unfortunately from what I gather from your work you’ve barely crossed the threshold into this arena.
     B. You need to practice backgrounds. I know you’re trying. But I also know you fear them. You need to learn them. You need to put them under your belt and you can’t really drag your feet on this because your comic work is suffering from it, but when you approach this, instead of thinking “I’m gonna learn how to do backgrounds!” think of it that you’re going in learning how to do landscapes and the such – fetching in their own right. Not just window dressing for characters. As a comic artist? It’s *not* essential for you become a master of the landscape. You just need to wrap your head around enough of it so that you can hint and imply at a world beyond your characters *effectively* – but you do that through a lot more practice, and in these practices? No characters. Has to be strong enough to stand on it’s own or else you don’t quite got it yet.
Also, look into the golden mean. It’s especially applicable here.
     C. Your line work doesn’t demonstrate an understanding of line-weight variation and while there is such a thing as getting too fussy with line-weight considering color can get so much more immediate impact and audiences respond far better to it… there’s a certain richness that your work lacks due to this. Study contour drawings with good line-weight and practice it for yourself. Make a drawing pop without using color as a crutch to really get a handle on this so that later when you do incorporate color it’s like putting butter on a freshly hot blueberry muffin instead of a cold unbuttered blueberry muffin (still good, but not as good as it could be).
3. You use and abuse the hell out of the airbrush and it’s holding you back. I’m not saying you can’t ever use an airbrush, but I am saying you could stand to shelve it during practice sessions and force yourself to expand your toolbox – get out of that comfort zone.
A stagnant artist is a dead artist.
I’m going to leave it at that because this is already a lot and that covers the most glaring things I saw at a glance. Sooner you hammer these things out the sooner I think you’ll find more success in general as an artist.
I want you to know here that I’m not telling you all this to tear you down. It’s tough. It sucks. I know you’re stressed, but you do have skill. Unfortunately people don’t usually convey concise enough information on what to improve to make the greatest leaps forward by saying art is either “great!” or “shit!” and yet that’s the average commentary from non-art backgrounds.
I don’t know what else to tell ya other than best wishes and best of luck.
We’ve all got a long road ahead of us.
1- On humans, I used to draw nothing BUT humans in highschool and I couldn’t draw animals worth a damn, but I was trapped drawing nothing but the anime style.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in my opinion it looked bad, I wanted it to look genuine but I never felt it did and eventually I gave up and tried to adopt my own style that mixes other styles I like. I finally did find my preferred style, but now it’s a matter of mastering it and figuring out what works best for it in order to make it look its best, including line work, coloring, anatomy, what to exaggerate or not. Sometimes I take the time to do anatomy studies and sketches but I only have the internet to work with for that and not a whole lot of time to spare.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2A - I have books and tutorials on character design I keep reading over and over, I think my biggest struggle is my aversion to making things look ‘too anime’. Anime has a VERY distinct look and I feel like it doesn’t suit my needs, but I’m so used to it that it’s difficult to make simpler but still more stand out characters. I am learning though, considering I went from this:

Again it’s about escaping the anime stuff that I had drilled in for over 10 years, too much of the same face shapes. I have photos of people in my drafts right now that I’ve been meaning to practice with, they help me come up with new shapes to make faces more interesting and distinctive.
Example:
Tumblr media
2B- I keep asking people for tutorials and any kind of help on backgrounds I can get and all I’ve really gotten is Bob Ross and that doesn’t entirely help digitally unless I get all the right brushes for it x-x I’m not sure where to go to understand backgrounds better or how to simplify them for comics, I’m not sure what good speedpaint techniques are for it. I take way too long on backgrounds and they look awful and I know there’s an easier way to do it but I just can’t figure out how :[ It’s making me nervous because I’m running out of time and I don’t have much time to practice any more because of being bogged down by all this extra work. If I didn’t have to worry about my pony projects or commissions I’d be able to do this more, but as is I can maybe spare 4 hours a week at most? Aaaa I need help so badly on this >_<
2C- What’s funny is I keep thinking I figured out line weight, and I do it for a while, but then I somehow just forget it again and have to relearn it. It’s driving me crazy. Part of the problem is I keep drawing with my wrist and I’m trying super hard to get in the habit of drawing with my elbow and shoulder, but this tablet and setup doesn’t give me a lot of space to do so comfortably.
3- I am really starting to hate the airbrush honestly. At this point it’s only good for subtle shading and highlight, but I’m currently discovering all the new brushes I downloaded for Clip Studio (over 300) and I’m trying to find the ones that work best for what I’m trying to go for. I was hoping to use Dotty as my testing ground for techniques to figure out what to do for MMG but I’m running out of time it feels like and I’ve been slow on the updates.
Thanks for all this btw it’s more or less confirmation on what’s been bugging me and what I know just isn’t working right, I just need to figure out how the hell to get through it.

WHO? WHAT? WHERE? WHY? HOW?
5 Questions you should ask anyone when they’re starting off a project made from the basis of ego and tenacity. I’m really not a particularly smart person, But I’m smart enough to know how dumb I really am.
I’ve always been itching to do this. Twitter was never a great way to display my thoughts and writing on grounds that by limiting characters your characters by tweet you’d either get into long threads of diatribes that likely no one will even read or you’d have to space out your thoughts and mince words in order to fit to these said limitations. Obviously it’s not a bad way per say to fully flesh out your thoughts but there’s obviously some downsides and you won’t be fully capable of fulfilling those quandaries, much so espousing on your thoughts and opinions to the fullest extent. I could write a book but I’m not knowledgeable enough feel like my thoughts are worth putting into a non-fiction book. I could join discord servers but I don’t know a wreath of people who even care. I could still talk off into the Twitter void but that’s only for short bursts at a time, any ideas or subjects I’d like to elucidate or spell out would just get lost, all my themes would shoot off into the negative space that is a twitter timeline regardless of if they’re worth revisiting or not.
But of course, would it even matter if people do care or they don’t. People live off making Youtube videos and content based on themselves because they assume people actually care about whatever benign thought or creative pursuit they’d have in their head. It’s not up to me to judge if my thoughts are worth putting out there but I guess the reason people use social media is to give a voice to the voiceless, have anyone out there a chance of their own success, But how does that affect content input though, How does impact your very own mental psyche. This is a conversation for another post and it’s far from a topic I’ll have any meaningful outlook on, just from my own experiences as an outsider looking in.
WHO?
I always fancied myself a writer more than an illustrator. The whole crux of my need to learn how to draw was from the idea that “hey no one wants to draw my webcomic ideas on something awful or whatever internet messaging board I was using at the time that’ll date this post when I look back on it when I’m 40, I’ll learn how to draw then and show everyone I can STILL MAKE IT” Then I started drawing and never really looked back. Within the few years or so since I’ve made that discovery I never really focused on my writing, much less my creative writing. I’ve had few instances where I’d try to light up my spark by blog posting was making other short lived wordpresses and blogspots where I can peruse and write for a short while until I get bored and go back to drawing everyday. Of course two particular things happened in which I’ve gotten that spark back, to an extent. 1. The corona virus quarantine happened and I was stuck with nothing to do, I dropped out of school to go to a new college out of country that hasn’t really happened yet and aside from my retail job I haven’t had a good outlet for where to put my creativity too. So I ended up just drawing more but also, reading off some books off my backlog. I’ve always been interested in philosophy and non-fiction since reading Kant and Hume at age 12 and Now rediscovered it because of quarantine. Really I’ve always been a better writer or story teller than anything else but efforts to light up that energy in me has been fruitful and I’ve relegated to being another artist in the pile of artists who’s only personality is that they “like art”. Which made me realized how much of a better self sufficient and self respecting the writer can be rather then the animator. Illustrations are fleeting, words stick with you. Of course greats work of art exist and will always exist. Beautiful paintings can grip me just as much as a good work of philosophy can, But lately beautiful paintings have been disgruntled and disavowed from public schema. If you want to provide good art for people to see, use hashtags and make fast fleeting content for people to consume easily and forget about. Such is the way of social media and how they grip you to keep using their products, It’s not a revolutionary idea but it’s a concept that ends up working. In a way I’d like to counteract this by making fast fleeting content but also putting in forth ideas and writings which I can consider good but we’ll see how that ends up panning out. My goals as an artist is for another topic entirely but really I need a way to practice my non-fiction writing skills and having a blog where I can just go on and on about pointless shit is good exercise. 2. I’ve stopped communicating to people that would point me to a direction in life I didn’t really need to go through and because of that I took a detour in my mental stability and mental development, really it wasn’t good for me. but because of that I was able to keep track of where I need to go and have removed all elements in my life that can allow me to find different paths and know where I’ll truly be. I could also just talk to people about these kinds of stuff but it’s hard to really find people who I can talk about the stuff I want to talk about with and nothing really beats writing a whole diatribe about whatever comes to your mind at the time. Why do I have a lot on my mind? You’ll hear that story in another time but it’s MOST likely an autism thing.
WHAT?
Look at section: Who again but to summarize and clarify what I mean. Content is fast fleeting and non-self actualizing, people don’t want ideas they want content, They need personalities to leech off and see themselves in instead of being creatives themselves. As someone who makes art and wants to make more art It’s hard to really judge if my art is worth it for the algorithm or if it’s worth it to bring in audience retention. Not to mention most people who use social media are kids, and the only way to grab kids attention is to play to their interests, play into their already corroded brains by playing onto their synapses, Not to imply I dislike it per say but more so that I feel that certain audience can somewhat affect your creative output.
WHERE?
I made a Medium account last month after reading an article on Luxury Communism. It was a fine article but what I got out of it was how good it seems to use Medium to communicate and write articles like these, Until I realized that really it can only be used for more academic pieces and while sure I’d like to do that one day something more lowkey and personal was what I really needed. Hence a tumblr, originally a blogging website before being used to oxidize internet discourse and internet creativity in general, was a perfect outlet for these kinds of posts. I’m actually used to using tumblr for one and can edit and know my way around doing these sorts of posts and the archive feature is good if I ever want to look back on old posts as opposed to Twitter. I can use the ask feauture to take requests or have feedback on my posts in a more concise manner. Unlike Medium or Wordpress I can easily hide certain posts or even the entire account if I wanted too and I won’t be seen or be recommended by the algorithm because I won’t even put tags on these posts. If you know where to find me you know where to find me. Although I do think I’ll make this public at some point I atleast need to know if I’ll even use this or if I’ll even keep making the same kinds of posts as I’d want too.
WHY?
I’ve already explained why you knucklehead, but I guess here were some of my inspirations to make a writing blog. I could list actual writers or twitter personalities or internet reviewers with blogs I can talk about, for example Yahtzee Crosshaw, Film Crit Hulk, Or even the elusive Andrew Hussie when he had a wordposts and while those people were instrumental to my development as a writer and artist I can’t say they were my full inspiration for making this.
Back in 2016, I was introduced to the Procrastinators’ Podcast by consuming Digibro content and having her podcast be linked at the end of one of her videos. I’ve since started concurrently watching her podcast and while I’ve always sucked into Digi’s cult of personality I’ve started appreciated her other friends in the podcast too, everyone except Nate. One of those members I gravitated too was MunchyWearsTinyHats. He was only one year older than me but I could still see myself in him and in effect appreciated him more than anyone in the podcast. We both seemingly grew up watching and reading the same shit, Homestuck, TF2, He introduced me to Nuclear Throne which because one of my favorite games and we both had the same appreciation for Hussie, Sam Hyde (sadly) Performance art, weird abstract art bullshit and of course My Little Pony. If I actually joined RFCK who knows what would’ve happened but that’s just my take. Of course a surface level description of Munchy aside, as someone who consumed everything he was in, I Lived my life vicariously through him and to all the members of the Procrastinators’ Podcast to an extent even though we both became completely different people as we reached our 20s. Currently he’s 20 and I’m less than a year away to being 20. But I feel as if our paths have drifted far enough that I can properly say I became a whole new different person to who I was in 2016. I still have appreciation for MLP, Homestuck and Minecraft and all the weird media shit me and him consumed. Back then I even modeled my art and persona to look like his too, It was a whole thing. Of course all of these posts and videos and personalities are very very out of date and they don’t reflect the content I consume or even the type of person I am now. I had a friend who also liked the PCP, well it was more like a love-hate relationship I feel but it was nice having someone who I could talk about the PCP with since at this time they were the only people or content creators I was consuming, what’s less said about current pcp the better. She’s always told me, I feel sorry for people who model their lives around these content creators and take advice from them since they clearly don’t know what they’re doing. And while I agree with her to an extent, I wouldn’t go as far as to discredit these artists accomplishments since they seem fulfilled with what they’ve made of themselves, not like we’re doing anything different or are any different to them. It’s about trying to live in a world with your own meaning in it and you can’t do that but disparaging the careers of grown men you don’t even know. Again topic for another day but I guess with this blog I’m always copying and ripping off some of their ideas for myself. In 2019, Munchy made a Tumblr where he’d detail and do the same thing and post blogs or writings he’s made or opinions he’s had, It hasn’t been updated in a year and a half but if it isn’t broke, don’t call the gas company asking for a refund. I even stole his alliteration with Shinsuke’s Soliloquy and Munchy’s Manuscripts, Shinsuke being my real God-given name. Of course the posts on his tumblr are really incredibly out of date and downright stupid and I’ll talk about them on their own on a seperate post since I feel like he really just didn’t know what he talked about and they’re baseline at best and wrong at worst. Regardless he still planted the seed of me as a person to make my own blog and talk about random bullshit.
HOW?
Obviously I will still tweet out stuff on my private twitter, Obviously I will still make art. Right now I’m making my own comics and writing a few short stories that maybe? I’ll put here I’m not really sure. Just depends on if they’re worthy on being posted since I’ll make a short story collection with them instead. Maybe I’ll continue the favorite character writing, maybe I’ll make my own picrew. We’ll see and no doubt these promises will become out of date in a week or two. Rather than the right of the moment malaise of tweeting around bullshit and sending it quickly I’ll use this for more concise text, something that I can sink my teeth in and tap away for what like 5 hours or so? Beats the essays i’d be doing but it doesn’t help that I am typing this in total silence, and I guess those essays will just be posted here. Do people post their school essays like they post their poems or their artwork for school? If you want to use my ask blog then it’s right there if you want a topic for me to talk about or just ask me a regular question. I’m bringing back tumblr asks to it’s real purpose. And of course, the only thing sure about me, is that nothings for sure.

Gee, look who’s back to quote unquote making “commentary” on us.
Long story short: After Jojo’s post on Josephine McCarthy accusing Keyframe (because that’s all he can do these days, make assumptions and “commentate” on the bronalysis community because he’s that of an nuisance) of “breaking copyright laws” because she’s selling shirts with her fan art on it and taking a neutral stance mind you on the matter (basically saying it’s sort of a grey situation when it comes to selling fan art of existing IPs), the fucker decided to again, decide to commentate on us.
Also apparently he says “bronies are breaking copyright laws” because of the fan art and shit.
Hey puto McCarthy, if that’s the case, then so is everyone. Including that once shirt you had that parodied the Straight Outta Compton movie logo.
But please, do enforce how bronies are bad for doing fan art and that equals copyright breaking.
Anyway back to his video.
So again, Josiphine thinks that Key’s breaking “copyright laws” (and that’s there’s no grey area either by some logical reason) because she’s selling shirts with existing IPs on it. Now here’s the thing, that within itself would be a problem..if she was selling it as her own.
She doesn’t own the MLP brand nor any other brand that’s being sold, and it’s fan art at that too.The fan art doesn’t look exactly like the show’s style too.
That’s what prevents it from being C&Ded to say the least because it’s not merch from the show itself.
Now I know Ephrom heard of the Jan Animations controversy that lead to Jan having to cancel Button’s Adventures because copyright.
See here’s the difference between Keyframe’s art and Jan’s animation style:
JAN’S WAS THE FUCKING EXACT TO MLP.
THAT’S what bothered Hasbro. Button’s Adventures looked EXACTLY like the show’s style and that’s what prompted them to go full blown Corporate on Jan.
Yes there are also fan animations that look like the show too, but Jan’s was getting immense exposure because it looked so alike to the show.
Key’s more stylized perspective on the characters and pretty much does fan art of them.
One of the other problems with Jan’s project was that he acted like he owned Button Mash.
Don’t believe me?
Look at him getting pissed off at the fact Button’s cameos and later on in the MLP Mobile game. He flat out acted like he owned Button Mash despite the fact all he really did was popularize the character (before the C&D ruined the Mash and lead to Derpibooru developing some sort of hate towards him).
Ephrom also says there’s no “grey area” for artists to do commissions for fans who wanna see their favorite characters done by them.
what.
Again, are you saying fan art is bad in general, because if that’s the damn case, then not just Hasbro, but ANY corporation would have shut down any convention that sells fan merch/fan art and by some extent, they would have started shutting down all artists who commission.
“GUYS GUYS, BEING A HIT MAN IS A GREY AREA”.
…YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT.
HOW DOES ONE COMPARE “ARTIST COMMISSIONS” TO “HIT MAN”.
How do you computer.
Because really, that’s all it is. Fan material, Josephine. and Yes, some companies are fine with fan material, and some will shut down certain things because of it (Nintendo shutting down those Pokemon fan games recently?), but that’s why it’s a grey area.
Or what, because it’s Keyframe, a bronalysis member, you need to bitch about them to seek attention.
“’Keyframe the…’ DEFENDING. I SAID DEFENDING”.
You legit still think that and I want to drown in hot water, dear god you’re so stupid.
He then goes on to say how we’re quote unquote “never been neutral” and that “they’re biased” because of the Jerry Peeters stuff.
Look who’s talking.
Who’s biased against political arguments because he’s a liberal and constantly attempting to look smart when all he does is look like those people 4chan mocks.
Who’s biased against ANYONE that Jerry Peet despises and goes onto tagging them on twitter and harassing them because of it.
Who’s biased against GoldenFox because of ONE REVIEW and proceeds to mock and poke at his interest in dressing his sona in drag.
Who’s biased whenever someone critiques Jerry Peet.
Because really Josine, if we were really that biased, I’m pretty sure we would have gotten into arguments with other uses like you have repeatedly.
Once again, you take what we say, twist it to fit your standards of logic and make it seem that we’re the idiots while you’re some genius.
Really, can you for once just fucking quit while ahead?
I’m gonna let Jojo give his thoughts too so here’s he.
I want to rid myself of your obnoxious biased dribble by blasting the infamous live version of My Bloody Valentine’s “You Made Me Realise” with the incredibly loud “holocaust section”.
Being an artist, having several friends who are artists… I can see why DP is annoyed by the absurd accusations thrown at us by a Cyberbully Apologist.
Conventions are a good place for artists and vendors to gain some credentials and earn some dosh for new supplies or to help pay for groceries. So what you are suggesting, SifFroJo is that major conventions not allow people to draw so they can earn their keep.
It’s funny because you forget, Xain the one person you don’t hate because he likes the taste of the Canadian sausage also has been paid by people to draw ponies. Such as Jerry and his fiance Lizzie, The NeoCon Bogeyman Josh Scorcher.. THE LIST GOES ON! Xain made the original Josh and Jerry pony puppets for their respective reviews and yet you brand someone so close to the God Emperor as a criminal?
I knew you were made of crappy stuff.

Can you tell us a bit of your art journey? (ex. how you learned to do certain skills or got an artist block for a couple of years)
I suppose i could tell ya, yeah. Though I warn ya, it’s not all that interestin. =u=
I think I’ve always had a fancy or art. I’ve always loved creatin things, and I’ve always been curious about the world around me. But for a while I didn’t really do much with it. Call it laziness, or lack of direction, but I just never thought much on it.
Till I met a beautiful artist in school. I don’t really know why, but she was just so... Amazin to me. And she was a pretty talented artist as well. When I saw that, I got this silly idea in my head that, if she saw me drawin as well, then maybe we could connect on somethin, and become friends. Course, that never happened, but it started somethin in me.
Even after I had moved away I started to draw more and more. But I was never all that good. Heh, you should’ve seen the crud I drew. Triangle chins. Triangle chins EVERYWHERE. But still, I kept goin, eager to show someone, anyone my work.
That was, until, people stopped seemin interested. Heck, one of my parents stopped lookin at my darwins all together, sayin “they all look the same”. After that, I just sorta gave up for a few years. I just didn’t have the spirit to continue. I had no support for it, so why bother, right?
It wasn’t until my second year of highschool that I tried to pick up art again. At the time, I was hangin out with the first real friends I had had in, about, ten years. Well, one day one of them introduced a new kid to our group. A kind dude by the name of Ben, who also happened to be a pretty fantastic artist. I dunno why, but I guess I felt sorta jealous of his skill, so I tried to do everythin I could to match him/impress him. I found books in the school library on how to draw in a manga/anime style, and I slowly tried my best to catch up to him. But that didn’t really work out. Still, we managed to become good friends in the end, and still talk from time to time to this day.
After highschool I manged to get my first job, and start makin money. and with my first paycheck I bought myself a dinky little tablet. My first ever drawin tablet. I was so happy, because I was sure that it’d help me. Ben had warned me that it wouldn’t instantly make my art better, and he was right. But it did help in one regard: I was no longer afraid of messin up. I mean, with a tablet, I could get rid of a mistake much easier than on paper, and try again. And so I tried, and I tried.
It was around this time that I join the MLP community, and at this point I was really eager to do somethin new. I hadn’t gotten very good at drawin humans(feet, hands, faces, and bodies were a nightmare to me[still are in many ways]), so I wanted to try somethin I thought would be easier. And sure enough, I started to develop my own style. I got helpful critique from people in the community, and soon I was makin things that I wanted.
But after a while, my love for ponies sorta started to die out. I was never TRULY in the fandom, and I never managed to make anythin that stood out to the other artists in the community, so I started to feel that fire go out.
After that, and durin one of the heaviest depressions I had gone through in years, I found the Undertale fandom. And with it, so many wonderful and amazin artists. They lit a fire back under me, and my inspiration came soarin back.
But here’s the difference. The part of this that makes all of the difference. Out of all of these points in time, Undertale and the community gave me somethin that none of the others really had.
When I started, I started because I wanted to impress a girl. When I tried again, it was to gain respect/beat someone else. and when I tried yet again with ponies, I did it for recognition and for a chance to make a livin.
But with Undertale, I had finally, after so many years, decided to do somethin for myself for a change. For once, I wasn’t tryin to show anyone. For once I wasn’t drawin for others. I was drawin for myself. I was drawin because it made me happy, because I wanted to get a story out of my head, and onto paper.
I had tried, for so many years, to do art for all of the wrong reasons, but for the first time in my life, I started doin it for all of the right. ones And since then I’ve seen myself improve so much. It’s why I’ve stated before that I’ve improve more in a few short months than I had in YEARS of drawin before. It was because I had finally said enough, and that I was gunna draw for me.
So, uh, yeah, if anyone gets anythin out of this ramble, I hope it’s that if you want to be an artist, if you want to go out into the world and create, you should create those things for yourself first. If you go out with the intent to get somethin from it in return, you’ll most likely end up in failure. I know from experience. So, go out and draw, paint, cook, play. Do whatever it is that makes you happy, but do it because YOU want to. Do it because you want to make yourself happy. And if you do that, I can assure you, you’ll make others happy as well, and you’ll get better and better with every passin day. ^u^Anywho, I hope this is a good enough response, yo. I’ve madea few mistakes in my time, but we all learn from em, and they help us grow. =u=
