Hewwo! If you're still doing the ask game,❤️, 💛, and/or 🎨?
Lissen I will take any excuse to babble about my writings lol.
So for what my favorite line I've written in a fic is-- oooohhh that's gonna be a tough one. I can't think of anything off the top of my head to be honest. I have lines I'm proud of and then once I write it I tend to just. Mentally move on. Focus on the next thing I'm trying to write.
It would probably be a dialogue line though. I'm proud of how I write dialogue. :D
The most impactful lesson I learned about writing, I think would be don't be afraid of editing. It helped me to stop getting hung up on writing The Right Thing out of the gate and just, relax and get Words On Page. And that is the key to being a writer.
afkla;ldas oh and of course you gotta chuck the 'if someone did a fanart of your work what would you like to see' one on there too. I-- absolutely cannot pick. Creativity is a strange and whimsical beast! If anyone chooses to spend their Juices on my work I would be honored just in general!! How can I say 'but this bit especially please?' adjfa;ldls;ldkf

i’m gonna talk about re alistair and backstage pass for a bit on main because i’m lowkey in love with alvin wright. how do i know his last name when it hasn’t come up in my backstage pass otome experience thus far? i’m gonna sound Wack talking about it, but this is my blog and 2020 is already goddamn weird so this is how it’s gonna go
Tumblr media
i’ll start by saying i know i’m late to the backstage pass fandom (is it even alive in 2020?) but i recently re-discovered it and am intrigued by one route and one route only! also spoilers ahead but i feel like this is such a niche thing it doesn’t really matter
back when re alistair was released in 2010, i spent all summer playing and replaying it (mostly travis’ route but i digress). and a few years later when backstage pass was in the works, i was interested in it but forgot about it at the time of its release in 2016. like the protagonist, sian, i was a freshman in college myself and was too busy and broke to invest in backstage pass
now in 2020, we’re social distancing and isolating and i can’t work, so obviously i spend a lot of time on the internet. naturally i went down the youtube rabbit hole and found backstage pass again in a lets play!
i watched the intro for the game and wasn’t really interested in any of the four main guys. adam was alright but i’m not really into the childhood friends thing. benito is no because you play as an 18 year old and he’s 15 and just, no. john is okay but i don’t vibe w him. and matthew is cute but lacking something...
i wasn’t even going to bother with the game
but then i saw him
Tumblr media
he’s the last profile on the official backstage pass website (which is where this image is from) and something about him seemed extremely romanceable to me
so i’ve been watching a walkthrough of his route and have been falling more and more in love with this fictional character. i’ve never been so attached to an otome boy before. not since travis from re alistair...
anyway, alvin is super nerdy and adorable! you’d think he’d be super serious and quiet, but he’s actually a huge fanboy and can talk about the shows and comics he loves with an incredible passion. and his voice actor does a great job at bringing him to life! his facial expressions in game are subtle, but his voice adds an unexpected enthusiasm to his character
in one of the scenes with alvin, he talks about his birthday and his two older brothers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and this dialogue about having two older brothers triggered a memory from all that time back in 2010 when i spent hours replaying travis’ route:
Tumblr media
in addition, there’s also a cameo of merui (alistair’s protag) meeting sian (backstage’s protag). and in backstage pass, you can buy rivenwell online, a game that’s integral to the re alistair plot! so both of these games are definitely connected! and i’m pretty sure that was confirmed anyway but i’m still very new to backstage pass.
now this is where i get more charlie day:
alvin and travis both have dark, blue tinted hair, blue eyes, wear glasses, and dress somewhat formally for college and public high school respectively.
alvin is 19 in game. backstage pass was released in 2016. travis is 17 in the time of re alistair’s release in 2010. that would make alvin 13 at that time, definitely middle school age. travis has always been a bit aloof and doesn’t fuss over things, which fits with alvin’s dialogue, “my oldest brother didn’t care at all.”
which leads me to believe that in 2016, travis wright’s youngest brother alvin wright is attending university! and who’s destined to be romanced by me but i’m saving that for some self-insert fanart when i’m not busy with another drawing project.
but like i said at the beginning of this post, i’m still experiencing the game so i might come back and revise and/or add more if anything else comes up! i’m having a lot of fun so far~
and i’ve seen people say that alvin is ace and the route with him is just friendship... but i’m ace too and i want to romance this fanboy
EDIT: ok yeah i feel like it’s pretty obvious that alvin is travis’ younger brother. he got sian a rivenwell online giftcard for her birthday and mentioned the demon of edo (another game from re alistair), saying his older brother got him into it
EDIT 2: he signed an email “alvin w.” CONFIRMED!!
EDIT 3: he said, “in middle school my mom was diagnosed with cancer. they managed to remove it but she had to undergo years of treatment.” which is exactly what travis said to merui in re alistair! i mean, travis was in high school while alvin was in middle school, but anyway it’s the same thing! i’m so thrilled with this continuity and consistency
EDIT 4: his ending was so good omg i want to figure out the complexities of love with him too,,

not any major question but I was wonder what characters do you consider underrated(besides chad)?
Well, first let me distinguish between underrated and underutilized.  The former is, I think, a fandom view, while the latter would be characters I think the show itself didn’t do enough with.  There would be a bit of overlap between lists, I think, but not much–if the show can’t be bothered to do enough with a character to make them interesting, who can expect the fandom to care?
So this list will be more about characters I think the show mostly did just fine with, and who should get more love by the fandom!   And I’m glad you gave me the plural option there, because while I could narrow this down to the single character I think is most underrated (and I’ll flag her when I get there), I’d certainly rather ramble about lots of them.
-All of the Human Debris Whose Names Don’t Start With The Letter A: Dante is competent at things he has no business being competent at; he’s funny, in a very different way than Shino, and his desire to make a name for himself combined with his history suggests a streak of pure defiance that it’s a miracle his Debris days didn’t break him of.  Derma doesn’t get as much narrative attention as Masahiro or screentime as Aston, but he’s a keeper anyway.  Thoughtful and measured, unwaveringly loyal, and I would bet money that he has a Survivor’s Guilt Complex the size of at least a small moon.  And Chad (YES I KNOW) is a hard worker, smarter than he thinks, a complete sweetheart, and also riddled with self-confidence issues, and he does not get enough love.
-Biscuit: He completely dropped out of the fandom’s eye after the first season, and it’s a shame, because I think there’s a lot to be said about how things might have gone if he’d lived.  There was talk in Season 2 about how Orga made so many decisions alone–Zack wasn’t close enough to him; Eugene and the others too dependent–but Biscuit would have been that bridge.  He’s one of those characters that needed to die for Tekkadan’s rise-to-glory/fall-from-grace story to go the way it did, but I wish I saw him in more AUs.  If he doesn’t die, he’s going to be really important!
-Savarin: Savarin was doing his best, okay?  And yeah, his best was pretty bad, but he had a horribly well-positioned view of what was going to happen if anything went even a little wrong, and then watched all those exact things go down just like he knew they would.  And then he died, and then Biscuit died, and we don’t even know how much Cookie and Cracker ever found out about any of it.  What a shame.  The Dort Uprising cast are characters that really help flesh out the Post-Disaster timeline as a setting, and speaking as someone who has played a tabletop game in that setting, they’re Good Characters.
-Isurugi:  Yeah, he could have used even one dedicated scene before his death, but good lord, even going on what we have, Isurugi is fantastic.  He’s stoic but clearly still sitting on a huge untapped well of sentimentality, devoted even when McGillis is giving him absolutely nothing in return emotionally, and clearly the sort who thinks things through at length before deciding on a path, yet once he’s made that decision, he is as constant and unwavering as wrought iron.  I’m dying to see more of anything exploring Isurugi, and the emotional investment he’s made in McGillis regardless of McGillis’s reciprocation or lack thereof.
-Iok: Look, I know all the reasons people hate Iok, and they’re all valid.  But like…  Guys, he makes a legitimate attempt to protect Rustal Elion by throwing himself between Rustal and a dainsleif.  It’s hard not to love that kind of genuine, pure–and very, very stupid–devotion at least a little.
-Todo Mirconen: Fight me, Todo is hilarious.  And maybe there’s just a little bit more to him than everyone thinks?  Like, he’s a bully early on, sure, but I don’t think he’s a coward, per se, so much as he is self-serving to the bone.  Remember that, front lines or not, we meet him as an employee of a civilian military contractor.  And perhaps he didn’t have much choice in jobs when he was younger, but I think it’s pretty clear by his connections in the second season that he could have gotten out of that life by the time we meet him if he’d really wanted to.  I think, despite his appearance, he maybe does enjoy having a modest degree of excitement in his life?
Amida: If I had to pick one character to top this list, it’d be her.  I think there’s a very solid case to be made for Amida being the most purely skilled pilot in the whole of the show, but I don’t actually care overmuch about Who Would Beat Batman In A Fight categorizations, when instead there’s a much more interesting case to be made about her and Naze near singlehandedly wiping out an entire sector in which female Human Debris were probably trafficked.  Truly, Amida is a light that burns as brightly as the sun.  What a champ.  What a complete queen.  What an exemplar to her women.  I wish pixiv could do her more justice than porny doujin and fanart where she’s shorter than Naze.
-Kudelia: Curiously, I think people undersell her pragmatism and why she’s going to be as important in Mars’ future as she is.  Kudelia–even in her idealistic early days, and only getting more prominent over time–has a realistic side her character type often lacks, most explicitly laid out in her early talks with Makanai and the situation with Hashmal.
-All the show’s wacky Space Pirates are terrible and yet great.  They’re not important enough to the plot for me to begrudge the fandom for ignoring them, but like the Dort characters, they’re a big part of the setting’s flavor, and I love them for that.  I hope Dawn Horizon staged a daring rescue of their captain in all Gjallarhorn’s confusion and internal strife at the end of the season.  If Kudal Kudan had survived, I would have wanted him and Brooke Kabayan to escape into the abandoned section of whatever mining colony the Turbines dumped them on and then spent the next twenty years hating each other less than they did the entire rest of the universe.
-Makanai’s aide: So underrated by the show that he never even gets a name.  I don’t think the show needed to do more with him, but he’s the number one bit character I wish we had a name for, even if just in the credits like Yamazin.
Thanks as always for the question!

ShipTag Shitposters and their Combatants
Every fandom has these bunch of daring, crazy people who love to meander through shiptags….I mean that’s aggravating territory right there, right? Many don’t even bother. Why? Why would they put themselves through that insanity you ask? Well, a variety of reasons have been documented. From wanting to find new shippers to welcome ; to not following hundreds of blogs so that they don’t have to see a certain gifset cross their dash a million times ; to the bashful admittance that their dash was dead, they were bored and there was no other option. Thats all these insane people consider before they trudge into deep waters notoriously called ShipTag.
Now,here depending on the fandom, we see a delightful* array of posts. From a hundred gifsets of THAT SCENE in different filters, to people squeeing over everything and nothing, to getting called stupid and delusional for shipping IT, to a you’re-forever-scrolling-through-it-fanfic ,to a gagging gif with the shipname tag, to this-should-be-in-a-gallery-fanart, to insanely believable manips, to people insisting why this ship is sooo wrong, to people explaining why that scene worked so well in the narrative, to people calling real people names over fictional people whose fate the fans have no control over, to those fluffy and deadly HC’s , TO that omnipresent “let’s just get along as a fandom” post that pops up at regular intervals.
Yeah. Let’s just call that : INTRO TO THE SHIPTAG to all you naïvetes who are wondering what on earth is she blathering about.
Onto the topic. Having identified myself as one of this inane crowd, I thought I’d try to put the shippers - who try to combat this ongoing endemic of shitposting in shiptags - into the below categories (I know mum I know, I can’t fit people into neat little boxes..but this is for fun. From what I’ve observed during my tenure in the fandoms. If you feel there’s an insight I’ve missed, feel free to add!)
We have
▪The Exasperated Veteran - who has been here forever, used the tags liberally forever, and is sick of the constant stream of uninstigated hate and doesn’t hesitate to call it out. Well versed with the oft-repeated phrases of the antis and not engaging for a blackhole-of-a-conversation with the hater, these shippers are the ones packing the awesome comebacks that they know the hater can’t twist to further their means.Or we have
▪The Peaceful Mediator - Some Veterans come in this category, though it’s not inclusive to them. People who point out that they have witnessed this exact same debate with different ships in multiple fandoms. Wise people who have achieved enlightenment who claim the hate is not really worth the energy. Or one of those naturally subdued, calm, kind, nirvana-like-in-the-face-of-aggravation, let’s resolve this by talking it out people(this sort I really admire) who manage to keep it peaceful but not letting the shitposters get away. Or we have
*cringing*
▪The Amateur Newbie - the one who is fresh and happy and naïve to the innate workings of the fandom and is appalled and confused that - ‘shipping can be negative too??’ Ends up diving into a passionate defense of their ship thereby gullibly engaging the hater and going on and on in circles ad nauseam ad infinitum stupidly falling for and answering selective incendiary phrases every ship has handy which is lost on the noob unfortunately. And then we have the
▪The Restrained Drifters - the silent shippers that drifts through the tags occassionally because they ‘know’ not everyone stays in their lane while shipping so why-face-unnecessary-negativity?-shipping-is-s'posed-to-be-fun and when they do visit the ravaged land;away from their Dash of Bliss, they control themselves from breaking into defense for their beloved ship and optimistically perseveres and scrolls past until they’ve had enough of it to give a few of them a piece of their mind.
We’ve talked in brief about The Defenders.
Now The Offender,
▪The Fanatic(aka The Toxic Underbelly) - every single fandom(no matter how good they seem) has these. There is always a bunch of people who relish in channelling their frustation with the show/writers/characters/plot progression/CurrentCanonPairing into ship hate thus giving a bad name to all the good ones. The ones who just couldn’t grasp why everyone isn’t seeing the stuff they do and are not shy about distributing their opinion. You know the type - the anon hate, the non-anon hate , the unasked reception of reasons and metas and clues and quotes as to why their ship is the RIGHT and claims very other ship is pointless and obviously the aforementioned shitposts.
Purpose of this post : I dunno
Personally I don’t get it. When we take out the trash, aren’t we considerate enough to package it in a bag or whatever so it doesn’t bother our neighbours. I’m not saying don’t take out the trash…you gotta take it out obviously, you shouldn’t have to keep it bottled up inside . We segregate it, separate recyclable stuff, recycle it, you see stuff you hate and wanna throw out, but we don’t just put a dirty nappy or used tissues out in the hall of the apartment complex, do we? We package it up, so that it doesn’t disgust/irritate anyone who comes across it, nor do we put it in a box people will be tempted to check out (like an unattended cake box or a carton of beer or whatever it is that tempts people). Okay I’m not sure how many followed that shitty(no pun intended) analogy. Anyway.
What I’m saying is I get people want to rant and curse on their own blogs (that IS what this platform is for) but is it too much to ask (apparently yes) to find an alternative name when wankposting? How hard is that? Yeah This is Tumblr; This is The Internet; after all it IS easier to be inconsiderate when under the protection of a faceless icon than a next door neighbour. But yeah for what its worth, I said my piece. Anywho, I know this post will definitely end up as yet another Plea into The Void….but I hope it has amused a few :)
