OH the heartbreak. Even though he was just running towards the ruins, when he sees the tiny child starting to melt away HE COMES ALL THE WAY BACK. He can’t stand it. Lava Lamp just can’t turn his back on this boy who has shown him only open friendliness now that he’s about to disintegrate. He’s gritting his teeth. His eyes look watery. His head is down as he rushes back and HOLDS THE CHILDS TINY HANDS IN HIS OWN. 

Oh lava lamp you absolute sweetheart. This is going to suck for you. 

As HARD as he had tried to make himself, as much as he PROMISED Watanuki that he’d do ANYTHING that needed to be done, when he sees this small kid start to slip away he comes right back again. 

(And what is the thought in his head that hurts him so much when he sees this? Does he empathise with children in general? Is it because he too was a child when his life was stolen from him? 

Is it because the boy in his youth is too similar to Sakura at this age? Or perhaps to Syaoran? Is it because watching a child melt away is too similar to Sakura disintegrating into petals in Nihon? Or was Watanuki this age when he last saw him, before this all started, and the disappearing child is too similar to ignore?) 

OH MY HEART. 

Clamp took the knife and TWISTED IT. 

EVEN THOUGH lava lamp knows that being trapped in a time loop isn’t the same as living, it still kills him that he did this. 

(And who else would know this first hand but Lava Lamp, who was trapped in place for YEARS without moving forward from this same age?) 

Even though he KNOWS that’s not life, not really, he cannot MAKE himself ignore this. He’s ingrained this into his SOUL as he holds this tiny child close and comforts him in his final moments. Lava Lamp will never forgive himself that this was the price he paid for fulfilling that wish, even though he knows he HAS to do it. He’s going to blame HIMSELF for this - even though this couldn’t possibly be put on him. 

Lava Lamp will take on the price of EVERYTHING himself if left to his own devices. Unlike some other characters, he hasn’t yet learnt how much self sacrifice hurts other people - because he can’t. He doesn’t HAVE other people to hurt with his sacrifices, so he’s been left unchecked in his methods of piling EVERYTHING onto himself and calling it justice, thinking it a fair price. 

Move over Syaoran, move over Watanuki, move over FAI. We SOMEHOW have a new challenger for the King of Self Sacrifice and he’s making a serious case for himself.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? The manga industry, especially JUMP, needs to hurry up and do away with weekly scheduling for mangaka. There needs to better regulations put into place for their health and safety because this is pitiful. Two weeks - monthly updates should’ve already been the standard for the manga industry at this point. These money grabbers will only continue to put the lives of these artists at stake for the sake of capitalism unless some serious changes are implemented.
