best experience. over the years i've had a lot of great experiences with other writers, i can't boil it down to just one. it's just a really fun time when i can chill and casually discuss with other writers.

fluff, angst, or smut.

fluff: fluff is so fun to write! i enjoy soft and sweet interactions between characters, but i will confess that outside of drabbles, writing threads that are solely just .. fluff drains me (and maybe this is just an area of writing i need to work on better), but eventually i don’t know how else to progress the thread – especially if it's with characters that are meeting one another for the first time and i have no plot to refer back to. now .. fluff with some sort of deeper conversation, just two characters getting to know one another on an intimate level to build on their current relationship? i absolutely adore writing that!

angst: i relish in story-driven angst, so not necessarily angst for the sake of putting characters through pain, but for the development that comes with it and the eventual after. there’s something really enjoyable about writing a difficult, stressful situation between two characters and seeing how that shapes the overall dynamic between them. but i do .. prefer it to lead to something positive. writing never ending pain with a character that will always try to overcome that or find a way to deal with it just becomes so unvaried its tiring. BUT, writing angst with this notion of .. how will this character push past this and what will this do/better/worsen in their relationship? that's always fun for me!

smut: so i actually enjoy writing smut, i find it to be a neat challenge trying to balance introspection with the actual action and of course avoiding being repetitive/overly flowery. i don’t have a whole lot written on the blog to represent that, but the creative process is always fun when the opportunity arises. (i also am way too shy to directly ask someone if they’d like to write a romantic ship/assume no one would want to so .. that leaves minimal chance for it to happen in the first place lmfao!) personally, i have held back from writing it in the ways i’d prefer to out of fear of being too explicit. mainly because i feel like everyone has a threshold for how they’d prefer to digest reading about sex if that makes any sense. some people prefer poetic introspection that may not directly describe the act, whereas others enjoy it being crude. and i like to write a blend of both? so yeah.

plots or memes. i will 100% of the time prefer plots over memes if we don't have some sort of base to work off of. i know a lot of people don't enjoy plotting/have a difficult time with it and that's so valid. as long as i can ask you if it's ok to place our characters in xyz setting before i write a response then i'll be fine. but i just find the longevity of a thread and interactions to increase when i can refer back to a plot.

long or short replies. either or. once upon a time all i wrote were long replies, but nowadays i just want to have fun and write what i can.

best time to write. whenever i can tbh. (always at the most inconvenient time) i used to say i can only write at night, but since i finished school i have had better success inspiring myself to write during the day. which is strange,

are you like your muse. i think it's natural to share some aspects with your muse. i'm not like her socially or physically at all, i do wish i related to the ability to say what you feel. being lighthearted and patient. growing up i loved the comic relief character that had a lot of darker things they harbored within them. i enjoyed the confident shoujo characters that owned themselves and loved it. and i unintentionally embodied a lot of that in her including things i wish i saw in myself.

your ideal/headcanon version of it? how does it differ from how it is in canon & why is this your favorite version? any other alternate versions of it you enjoy?

i think all of my thoughts on sumi & the other thieves are always gonna have an element of “and here’s how they can help sumi gain confidence and express individuality”. i think futaba would be incredibly good for bringing out the Weird Girl in sumire. sumi is a 15 year old girl she’s weird by default but she’s also weird in her own unique way (see: the outfit from the start of that one rank of her confidant) but has not had chances to recognize that and show that. and here’s futaba whos the Weirdest Girl in also her own special specific way, and like, knows nothing But expressing that. futaba has never Suppressed Her Weird Behavior not necessarily as a move of Self-Confidence and Self-Acceptance, she’s been made fun of for being her and she’s still upset about that, but just… this is how she is and she doesn’t know any other way to be. anyway sumire can watch the futaba-machine in action and go Oh maybe sometimes you are just you and you don’t need to act a certain way for the people around you *becomes a creature*

also “they’re the same age” is not, like, automatically a basis for a relationship, but like. they’re the youngest in the group it’s nice for them to be The Same Age. 15 is a bit beyond the phase of life where a 1 year difference is like, a giant gulf, but its still good to have Someone Your Same Exact Age among. all the 16-17 year olds who have adopted them as the collective little sisters.

final notes: whenever i think of them i think about the comic thats them going “im depressed with suicidal tendencies” “IM depressed with suicidal tendencies!!”. also they’re the kind of pair where i like them Romantically as a Ship and also like them as Friends Who Hang Out. both are good. no major preference.

all this is different from canon bc sumi has almost no relationships or dynamics with anyone in canon </3 atlus please let her out

what do you like about their relationship, why is it interesting or enjoyable to you?

i like the above ramble i went on bc i like Weird People and i like Self Acceptance. i like them in general bc they’re both awesome and i love them so u put them in a room together and its like omg TWO little sisters for the price of one!!! also their color schemes & designs look really nice next to each other they look like wonderful candies. so.

what about the individual characters involved? what does this relationship mean to them, what makes it unique among their relationships?

futaba is Working On Intending To Go To School but they haven’t, like. Begun Attending Yet. so the amount of people their age they know is Not A Ton. them having more friends is always a plus. a Peer! someone Their Age! also probably nice to have someone else in the “met futaba outside of the context of their palace” group. having all your trauma and issues put in a nice little showcase gets that part of introductions out of the way neatly but also again would be like. a lot

as for sumi. again. its just The Power Of Self Expression <3 and ALSO having A Friend, A Peer, Someone Your Age.

uHHH i’m in my last semester of nursing school. august graduation. i would never put myself through nursing school again if i had the choice lmfao. quite literally the hardest thing i’ve done.

i don’t watch a whole lot of anime, or play many games mainly due to time constraints. i just circle back to comfort material. but i read a lot of manga (since i’m a fast reader).

idk if anyone really enjoys my writing, but i do love doing it! i’m slow to reply and honestly deeply enjoy just someone who can vibe with that and yell at me about their character in between. but i know it’s not everyone’s preference. sooo dkjnksdn

PLOT / MEMES: i cannot stress this enough. i will always prefer to plot over random memes. memes are super fun once i’ve established an understanding of character dynamics & general direction.but sometimes i get a meme and i genuinely feel stressed trying to be creative enough to come up with something with no established relationship. and tbh, i find it very rare that someone will take the unprompted meme and enjoy it enough to turn it into a thread. so it feels like expended effort whereas plotted material can often help me give more motivation to respond to memes. i know its not everyone’s cup of tea which is why i always try to come to the table with something. but that’s very hard to do if the other isn’t interested or willing to bounce things off with me. I DUNNO. plot first, memes second for me though.

Frankenstein’s Meme - Day 1

(Stolen from trobadora on DW. No promises that I’ll actually be doing one a day I will almost certainly not be, but it caught my attention all the same, so I figured why not give it a go? :D Full list of questions at the bottom, under the cut.)

1. What’s changed about your fandom life in the last 365 days?

For sure, I’ve gotten really into classic noir (and to a slightly lesser extent, classic film in general). I was previously aware of noir (and its successor, neo-noir), but only really in the aesthetic sense--dramatic lighting, Expressionistic framing, etc. But watching This Gun For Hire (mostly because I’d read it was a heavy influence on 1967′s Le Samourai, which was in turn a heavy influence on 2011′s Drive--two neo-noirs I heartily enjoyed) sent me down the rabbit hole of classic noir, and there, in the summer of 2020, something just clicked.

I think it’s probably because 2020 was a very dark year, and I in turn needed the media I consumed to reflect that darkness*. But at the same time, I also needed some sort of escapism, and in hindsight classic noir just kind of hit that sweet spot. It’s a very dark genre, born out of very dark things (WWII, post-war trauma/disillusionment, McCarthy-era paranoia, and--to go back a bit--arguably even the Great Depression, considering that a lot of films noir were based on crime novels written in the 1930s). But it also had that distance, being that it’s a genre from 70-80 years ago. A lot of the themes and stories of classic noir still resonate today (sometimes depressingly so), but it somehow helped, knowing the films literally couldn’t be reacting to or inadvertently commenting on modern events and society, owing to their age.

*Though at the same time, it is pretty funny that the fics I wrote in 2020 (most of them inspired by TGFH) were very...idk, “fluffy” isn’t the right word, but “soft,” I guess. The romances I wrote were very soft, so clearly I needed some sort of lightness/comfort, but it’s probably not a coincidence that the characters themselves were really quite traumatized and dealing with a lot of personal shit. (I still remember that one of my first thoughts upon first finishing TGFH was, “Jesus, they try to force a semi-happy ending, but Ellen is going to be fucked up after all of that,” pfft. MAYBE I GOT SO ATTACHED TO HER BECAUSE I WAS SOMEHOW PROJECTING???)

So, I plan on doing this myself, and I thought I'd let others see it so they could do it too if they so choose (you should tag me if you do it because it would be fun to see other people's responses). If you really want me to tag you in these for some reason, let me know! So here's what I'm gonna do every day of the month!

What made you ship it?

starting from my first playthrough, Ashley has been one of my Shepard’s favorite companions because of her easiness to talk to, practicality (that conversation about siccing your dog on the enemy and running the other way is crude but accurate, and Shepard knew that), and also I think Shepard sees a bit of herself in Ashley, where deep down, she really doesn’t have that high of an opinion of herself. like most of my ships, I enjoy a “best friends” angle there—I wouldn’t call my Shep and Ashley best friends, because like, Ash probably considers her sisters her best friends, but on the Normandy especially after Kaidan’s death, I think they share a lot of unspoken mutual connections as the only human women combatants who are expected to carry humanity’s legacy in this war.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

they have a lot of things in common at first glance, but the further you look, the more they feel like mirror opposites in other ways. they’re both level-headed marines that take their career trajectories very seriously. in my head, Shepard and Ash are also both woc, so they have that in common on the SR-1 as the only combat women onboard. my Shep and Ash are also both older sisters, although Lydia failed to keep her sibling alive, and Ash succeeded in successfully raising four younger sisters; Ash has a big family and they’re very dear to her, and Shepard has none, and in fact, a lack of family is a big thing for her because she feels she rebuilt herself in the Alliance. yet, they’ve both built identities around being career soldiers.

they both know sacrifices are going to be made in war; they don’t have to mince words with each other. but maybe the biggest thing is that while Shepard is highly recognized, Ashley’s skills are constantly looked over and pointedly ignored, and yet Ashley doesn’t let that bother her at all. eventually, when they both become Spectres (and post-Ash’s promotion) they gain equal footing in rank, but Ash is still more than willing to take orders from Sheaprd because she believes in them that much. so like... the ease with which they’re able to fall into each other’s orbit again after reconciling on Huerta. they acknowledge Horizon was a low point in their relationship that was neither of their faults. if Shep keeps visiting her, Ash trusts Shep entirely again by the time of the coup that she turns on Udina herself. if Shep puts effort into meeting her halfway, Ash returns so much.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

well... idk if this is unpopular but I really only ship femshepley... sorry mshep players...

What made you ship it?

I know the exact fic that started all this, Liquid Courage by pibroch. I remember seeing this in a friend’s bookmarks and going “what? varric/hawke? that’s stupid. that would never happen.” then my cursor moved and clicked it without my consent and then suddenly I was reading it. and I remember thinking this had a nice Varric voice, so I kept reading for that at first. iirc the angle was that they start something as friends with benefits, and then Varric realizes as he’s picking up a gift for Hawke he’s caught big feelings and oh shit. and then I was oh shit too.

eventually, damalur’s fic became a big reason I stayed with it—she wrote so much vhawke back in the day—and then her starting starting the hightown funk exchange kept it a regular interest.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I won’t say “best friends to lovers” again, I promise (even though it’s true)

I have a mix of reasons here that are similar to the answers I wrote in my shepley and shakarian responses, about grief, and found family, and juxtapositions, and blah blah. the long and short of it is that they’re both very similar in several ways, but in other ways they’re mirror opposites, but I think, at least with friend!Varric, that their relationship is one of the only reasons either of them gets through DA2 at all.

a big theme for Hawke, of course, is family. DA2 is, among other things, the story of how they slowly end up losing one family and gain another (and possibly lose that one too if their friends leave them in the story). Varric is a little of the same way: he’s lost his parents and eventually loses Bartrand to betrayal; the person who is there for him before, during, and after is Hawke. they both sort of become each other’s lifeline for the greater found family no matter whatever chaos Kirkwall or the rest of their friends descend into. bioware obviously intended for Varric to be your bff, and while in Mass Effect with Garrus I think this attitude of forcing a companion to be your best friend had its problems, with Varric I think it works better because Varric is meant to be a “true neutral” compared to the others that sticks by you not because he always necessarily supports you, but because he finds you interesting enough to tell stories about. morally and politically, this has its issues, because he’s a centrist and even if he’s sympathetic to mages, he’s also a ~both sides have their good points~ kind of guy, and besides, he’s more of a talker than a doer. but Hawke speaks in actions, so it makes sense to me that he’s so fascinated by them: Hawke has the courage to do all this heroic stuff that he’s only ever written books about. of course he’s going to write about them too!

but while he starts viewing them as a sort of iconic, larger-than-life figure, he realizes over the years that by penning his best friend’s exploits, he’s made them a political target as the violence in the city grows—and eventually, he realizes he might have straight-up ruined Hawke’s life. it’s a burden of his own that he bears as Hawke shoulders the weight of the city: they both feel like Kirkwall’s downfall was their fault. post-DA2, they both set off to try to make it right in the best way they can, Hawke by leaving, and Varric by setting the story straight and protecting his friends the best way he knows how, with words. a big part of why all of that attracts me is just the drama of it all if you decide to view that romantically—especially if Varric recognizes his feelings but chooses not to say something, like if Hawke is with someone else—but really I see Hawke and Varric’s relationship as a tragedy no matter if it’s platonic or not.

of course a lot depends on how you play Hawke, but no matter if they’re blue/red/purple, I think they hide their grief behind whatever their facade is. Varric is much the same, where he hides his behind humor and only really expresses himself fully in writing—however exaggerated—but also growing up in a family full of bitter alcoholics has given him the ability to recognize when his friend’s at a low point, and how serious that low point is. since he’s sort of a peacemaker, his inclination is to look out for them without forcing them to talk about their grief; I’m really attracted to ships that have that “I’m here if you need me” energy with no pressure attached.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

hm, I don’t think so? I think this ship has the potential to work in a lot of different ways so where I’m normally picky about the way I like things, with this one I am more open to interpretations I wouldn’t normally like.

I guess, idk if this is unpopular, but I don’t really have any hard feelings against Bianca, although I am not convinced Varric’s infatuation for her is healthy. so in general I am in favor of him finding a way to move on from her, although that isn’t the main reason I like vhawke

you wrote somewhere that you're in the fandom from the very beggining (sorry if i'm wrong). was rayllum that popular since first season? did people really used to believe it will become canon back then?

i have been here since before the show came out when we were getting character names on twitter. my first post on this blog was july 17th, 2018 and i was very excited. the dragon prince was exactly the sort of show i had been waiting for basically since atla of high epic fantasy and with a more serious tone overall. while lots of cartoons touch on more serious topics, like gravity falls or steven universe or shera, i wouldn’t necessarily label them of having consistently serious tones the way tdp tends to. the dragon prince is always a fun show to watch and a good balance of comedy but even more the initial trailers it was clear the emphasis was on character and politics (war) and lore, which is not usually how cartoons tend to market themselves.

i didn’t really make content then as i wasn’t an artist and we didn’t have much to work with. i also didn’t interact with anyone else back then in the fandom so idk what the it was like, personally. part of this was because the early fandom was unfortunately decently populated with antis. i know that - interestingly/funnily enough - quite a few of the admittedly few people who were in the fandom at the very start didn’t stick with the show really post s2 or even s1. i’m sure they like enjoyed it but you never know what’s gonna grab your attention fandom wise and i have a lot of shows i adore that i don’t make content for at all

some of the more popular ships pre show was runaan/soren (before ages were posted), soren/marcos and rayla/claudia. this is where i stood, memeing it out back then.

as i’ve said before m/m ships don’t tend to grab me as much bc i get bored if there’s no women, so i was actually very on board with rayla/claudia pre show. they were around the same age, basically any ship with rayla was gonna be enemies to friends to lovers a little, i thought they had nice character designs. i was mostly here though for found family, so i wasn’t expecting to have a ship either. i knew it could really go any way

however once i saw this still that was released on september 3rd, 2018

somehow i already knew rayla was gonna be my favourite, she was a main character (and i usually do tend to like the core protagonists or the Main Character the most, i’ve only really had one exception to that in the past) so i figured if i was gonna ship something it was probably gonna be her. so i was already primed for that.

i think the main reason why this still piqued my interest the way that it did was like i said, any ship with rayla with be enemies to friends to lovers kinda by default with the possible options we had (claudia, soren, callum). but here, at one point in the season we have these two characters who meet on the worst possible personal foot because she was sent after his family specifically... and they’re sitting very relaxed and close together under a tree. and he’s clearly really interested in whatever he’s talking about, and although rayla is rolling her eyes, she’s clearly also fond with that little smile. this screencap to me indicated friendship and support between two characters who were also the likeliest pair (as two main characters travelling together alongside ezran) of having the screentime to really build a bond and help each other grow. i was immediately sold and they were quickly the faves

after binging s1 over the course of the day i immediately knew i had made the right choice. canon killed rayla/claudia for me and catapulted rayllum to a beautiful platonic richness that had a lot of great romantic potential, but was already an amazing bond regardless of what road it went down

post s1 ships were largely runaan/tinker (ethari but we didn’t know his name yet), rayla/callum, and rayla/claudia as the main ships. there was also some soren/marcos and opeli/amaya and gren/amaya. i feel like post s1 people were more focused on all the characters as individuals and a lot of worldbuilding, so shipping anything wasn’t Big yet. but i think rayla/callum was already the most popular ship (although rayla/claudia was decent sized too, way bigger than it is now) just by virtue of having the most like, screentime and therefore canon content

so there was a small to medium, dedicated community already pretty well balanced with artists and fic writers. we figured then that there would be six seasons (one for each primal source) and the general train of thought was that rayllum’s s1 dynamic of friends would be the norm for at least another two solid seasons. they’d get closer, callum would probably get over claudia, and there might be a lil hint here and there like with certain !!! moments in s1 of body language or ezran’s initial ship tease, but i did not expect any more overt hints of feelings until like, s4. i thought because they’d be an elf-human couple rayllum might get together in s5 (it’s not uncommon with netflix binge series for a ship to be confirmed and get together with a season long drop, after all) because then they could explore what that would be like, and have a motivation to make a world where a elf-human couple could exist/live happily one of the reasons why they were fighting against viren/the evil side into s6.

however, rayllum’s romantic chances were seen as far more 50/50. it really felt like it could go a romantic or continue on a platonic path in equal measure. if you want an example of the sort of thought process and speculation then, i have a meta here i wrote pre-s2 and just post s1 a little over a month after the show came out, about why i thought rayllum would/could be canon someday, lol.

what s2 did was majorly tip the scales to “they are definitely going to take a romantic route” which is one of the reasons why i feel like the jump between rayllum in s1 and rayllum in s2, dynamic wise, is way bigger than the jump between s2 and s3 rayllum. increased focus on tender development also made rayllum rocket in popularity fanon wise and the community largely became the size you see now. i would say 25% were won over by s1, another 70% were won over by s2, and the remaining 5% won over by s3.

3. Who is the most romantic?: You are, at least in the more traditional sense. You know of the ins and outs of bouquets and traditionally romantic candle-lit dinners and all that jazz. Dewey is, too, but he’s far less capable of actually pulling it off. The times he does, there’s always a hint of Dewey in them -- for better for for worse.

He runs a bath for you? Adds a little too much bubble mix and then there’s a whole thing about cleaning it up. He cooks dinner? It comes out a bit burnt. Add candles into that mix and the fire department has to have a talk with y’all about fire safety. Really, his safest bets were to stick to buying bouquets, chocolates, and stuffed animals. But after a point, you started to run out of vases and pots to put the flowers in, resorting to using old Burger King cups; and the bed was just barely big enough to hold both you and Dewey at once, never mind the assortment of plush puppies, teddy bears, and the cheaply-stuffed jumbo snake he’d miraculously won at Coney Island a while back.

The good news is, you’d honestly much prefer Dewey’s idea of romance because it’s more personal to you.

For Dewey, it’s romantic to teach you how to play an instrument. Not in the cheesy, “Come sit on my lap because I can guide you a lot easier that way” kind of way, mind you. Don’t take it the wrong way, he could also do just that if you insisted such. But he does so as though you were truly his student -- and you absolutely are. And that’s what makes it sweet: He’s sharing with you his biggest passion in life, and he takes it seriously enough to get really into it and want to sincerely pass it on to you. Dewey is an excitable man, it’s difficult to catch him in a moment where he’s particularly still; even rarer when he’s doing so and in an actually good mood.

And when he’s teaching you one of the very few things in life he knows absolutely best, he’s definitely in a good mood. Even if his expression may not directly suggest so, with his eyes completely focused on your positioning and occasional correction of your finger placement. But the moment you pull off a successful set of chords, that adorable smile of his comes shining through and beaming with absolute pride! It is, for lack of better word, a bonding experience. And that’s what makes it romantic in your humble opinion.

That, and at least Dewey’s idea of romantic can mean a nice night in where you can relax and just flop on the couch to watch crap TV instead of putting on “stiff fancy clothes” and having to leave the apartment. In your minds, very little can beat a comfy evening full of marathoning Let’s Plays in your makeshift pajamas and scarfing down food bought from the bodega two blocks down, especially after a rough week. And especially when one or the other plays with each other’s hair . . .

7. What do they get up to on a night out?: That being said, you’re still dating Dewey Finn: Eventually, you do need to go out and “taste fresh air” as Dewey dramatically puts it.

You two are gluttons for entertainment. You tried the whole gig of just going out for dinner at a fine dining establishment, followed by a bit of a walk (but not too long, this is still New York after dark after all). You both tried to enjoy it, too, but it honestly just wasn’t your scene. Besides, the portions were way too small for something costing upwards of $25 per plate.

The good news about having a boyfriend like Dewey is that he always has his fingers on the pulse of the city. If we’re going with my headcanon that everyone lives on Staten Island, then there’s no shortage of venues or events to explore! The limits are only set by the limits of your wallets! . . . Suffice to say, it’s not just a personal choice that you two usually just go to bar and grills that hold band nights.

But once every blue moon, after saving up, you both go crazy and head over to Manhattan to catch a show. You’re admittedly more into musicals than Dewey is (especially ones written and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber), but there has been the occasional show that Dewey didn’t mind watching, and even found himself mutter-singing the lyrics to. Granted, because a night like this can be pretty pricey (especially on an extracurricular teacher’s salary mixed with your own), these sorts of nights don’t tend to happen too often.

And sometimes the urge to go out is accompanied by that grossly exhausted feeling where it’s like all your meats are essentially weighing down on your bones. But you haven’t done anything fun all week, you just gotta get out the house and get Out There! . . . To the 24hr pizzeria next door, because that’s about as far as the two of you can get.

Apparently at some point after you turn 21, just going out after 8pm can make you feel like a hell-raiser. And that’s good enough for y’all.

29. Why do they fall a little bit more in love?: You bring out what the other wants and needs.

When you were growing up, you were quite quiet. Being looked at by a bunch of people always made you anxious, you were constantly afraid to make sudden moves, lest there may be some backlash. You’ve gotten better since then, but even still, you struggle with being as open and forthcoming as you would like to be.

And that’s where Dewey comes in: With Dewey, you always feel like you can stand a little taller, be a little louder. There’s something about him that encourages people to break out of their shell (at the very least peek out of it) and make them want to just seize the day. As his significant other, you are absolutely no exception. Watching him confidently approach nearly every task with a can-do attitude makes you consider that maybe you can do the same thing. If you want to civilly but firmly tell somebody off, Dewey’s there to support you. If you need to ask for help with something but are too afraid to, Dewey’s got your back.

Of course, he sometimes oversteps and just does it for you himself, with him seeing any slight against you as a complete injustice that he needs to defend your honor over. In which case, you’re usually thankful, but gently tell him that you need to do this on your own. And he will respect this because it makes him remember that this is your journey towards gaining more confidence in yourself. You’re so very special to him, and far be it from him to keep you from accepting that more and more. So when he invigorates you and makes you want to be and do better, you can’t help but want to always be with him: That way, you can be better for him, yourself, and also your future together.

As for Dewey, it’s whenever you ground him and help him grow as a person and listen to him. Dewey’s never been that popular -- and he knows it. Sure, he may seem completely invincible, but the truth actually is that deep down he’s got some insecurities about himself. His brashness got him kicked out of his own band, his immaturity nearly lost him a friend and got him into legal trouble, girls have never been particularly drawn to him, and it’s quite easy to assume that he’s an imbecile because of his one-track mind with regards to music.

As a result, he’s used his dream of becoming a rock god as a means to promote himself and that swagger he gives off so much. Which then creates a cycle of him making more mistakes after overestimating his competency. The problem is that even though people may tell him to stop, they haven’t always offered him help with how to do exactly that. The truth of the matter is, yelling at somebody doesn’t exactly help the situation; maybe it brings a person to realizations over what needs to be done, but rarely does it actually offer the tools necessary to get beyond that.

The irony here is that for as chaotic as Dewey can be, he’s a surprisingly good listener to those whom he sees insecurities in, especially kids. After discovering he has a knack for it, he’s become more than willing to sit somebody down and try to help them realize their potential, even if it isn’t always intentional on his part. And that’s where you come in.

You’re more patient than he is, so your impulsivity or lack thereof is a great counter to his, making sure that he remembers that sometimes things need to be planned out. Steps need to be taken in order to follow through with certain projects or goals, we can’t always just jump to it. With you, Dewey’s become more orderly with things. Not extremely, mind you, as that would destroy the man’s personality as we know and love it. But just enough to where he’s not as risky as he used to be.

In addition to this, you’re willing to listen to him and his thoughts on things, from his obsession with music to the anxieties he usually tries to keep tucked away deep down. It doesn’t necessarily borderline being therapy, but it’s enough to where airing things out help him feel more stable. Besides, not everyone is as taken to music as he is: It’s nice to be heard, even when it’s just over one’s special interest. Finally, like you with him, Dewey likes to observe you. It’s not always obvious, given that his hyperactivity sometimes distracts him or just appears to. After all, it’s hard to imagine the guy who dances when he’s excited actually paying attention to you when you’re just sitting on the couch, sketching.

But he is. Because watching you being able to keep still and let yourself breathe makes him want to do the same. He’s spent so much of his life thinking he needs to live fast that he never considered maybe slowing down a bit might be good. But now he has. And he wants to. He wants to slow down and grow up for you -- no, with you. And ever since he realized that this was something he wanted, he couldn’t help but love you a little more every time he found that familiar, warm feeling in his chest, making goosebumps rise to his skin.

I am very shy and quite awkward, which results in me not being much of a talker; however, I will always try my best to be friendly to whoever wants to approach. I. BASIC.

A. This blog is: Selective / Independent / Canon Divergent / NSFW / Mutuals only / Singleship / Mostly iconless / Multiverse / AU, Crossover, OC, and Multimuse friendly / Vaguely affiliated with the OP RP fandom.

B. I am a very slow rper for many reasons —school, family, my ever-fluctuating mood —and I would appreciate it if you refrained from pestering me for replies. In return I offer as much patience as necessary. Think of this blog as low activity please.

A. Deuce won't like everyone. He might/will make wrong assumptions about your character. He will insult and bite back. He won't always be nice to those he likes. He does many things that serve his interests. You, as the mun, have no reason to take it personal, because I'm won't follow someone I don't like; if you DO take it personal however, and decide to rouse drama, then I'll be hard-blocking you. Goes for me as well —I have no reason to get angry for any of the things noted above.

B. My bonds page displays the relationships that have been built over time, not necessarily through interaction alone but over plotting as well. Refer to it for more information.

C. Interactions with OCs related to canon characters will only take place as long as said OCs have a detailed about page. Personally, I'm not interested in the idea of an OC being blood-related to my portrayal, so I apologize in advance.

D. Formatting isn’t a big thing across my blogs, save for the small text. Please don’t mix either sup/sub with small text when writing with me, as I have eyesight problems. Don’t use colored text either.

E. Non-romantic pre-established relationships are allowed! Just make sure to talk it out with me first, yeah?

01. Spade / Whitebeard pirates (canon and original characters alike that i am MUTUALS with) will have a pre-established relationship as long as the other mun is comfortable with such idea, though that relationship will be limited to merely crewmates, unless discussed otherwise.

A. Singleship, with the spot taken by daadzi, which means Deuce is no longer open for romantic relationships.

01. Under no circumstances, I will accept more romantic relationships once the spot is taken. That being said, I won’t discourage your muse from falling for / hitting on him, although I ask you to understand he will never respond with the same interest or will never react gently if he’s pushed too far.

02. If my shipping partner is comfortable enough, I'll interact with duplicates with the condition that the relationship is strictly platonic.

B. Constant interaction, mutual interest, and chemistry are a must for the sake of better communication (both ic and ooc, preferably).

C. Please do not approach me if you wish our characters to have either a: one night stand or friends with benefits type of relationships. It won’t work out due to the nature of Deuce’s personality, and for that I apologize.

E. My ship has its own tag so you're free to block it if you don't want to see it on your dashboard. In addition, I'll also tag those posts with only the ship name for this very purpose.

V. CELEBRATIONS.

A. First off, I am absolutely terrible at keeping up with dates, and to be frank, I am not the biggest fan of celebrating, which is why I think it’s necessary to say I won’t be partaking in any holidays, not even Deuce’s birthday (not that he has one, to begin with). Obviously I will still reply to any gifts received, and will send out things in return —you know, common courtesy.

B. I won't be sending out birthday gifts every year, and I might write drabbles for people once in a blue moon; it doesn’t mean they will be done for the specific date though, so please be patient.

How long will they last? - These two are meant to be, they'll meet in every lifetime!

How quickly did/will they fall in love? - Oh, it's been so long that I can't remember how it happened but they were best friends for a while before they fell in love, right? In my memories, Gaeul had been dating someone else who was never here and she used to spend a lot of time with Teddy?

How was their first kiss? - I don't remember??? It was probably a sweet but unexpected first kiss that maybe shouldn't have happened and that left them both flustered? Oh my god, wait, weren't they sex-friends for a little while too???

Wedding:

Who proposed? - I initially wanted to say Teddy because Gaeul is such a romantic, but the thought of Gaeul being the one to propose to Teddy sounds actually very cute. Perhaps they'd be casually relaxing on the couch, and she'd ask him if he wants to get married, pft.

Who is the best man/men? - there's none

Who is the braid’s maid(s)? - same here, it's a marriage only with both of them and their baby

Who did the most planning? - Gaeul, because Teddy knows that she has everything ready since her childhood, pft.

Who gets stuck with the most diapers? - I think they share the tasks evenly between them - at Gaeul's insistance to have Teddy as involved as possible so he can grow more confident in taking care of their baby. At first she's always by his side, but it honestly doesn't take too long before she knows that he'll do just well with their baby daughter.

Who is the stricter parent? - Teddy, because he doesn't want their children to end up in dangerous situations as he knows how terrible the world can be.

Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? - Once again, that's probably Teddy. He'd want for their children to come back home straight from school while Gaeul would let them hang out with their friends. They'd have to find a good balance for everyone to be happy, but I'm not really worried about that. They always work things out one way or another.

Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? - Saying Gaeul would be a cliché but I genuinely believe that she enjoys packing lunches for their children.

Who is the more loved parent? - Eyyy, I don't like this question. There's no differences! Both are loved equally and both love their children equally.

Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? Gaeul, because Teddy doesn't have the patience to deal with teachers after that one time he almost punched one, hahaha.

Who cried the most at graduation? - Gaeul, she's an emotional mom to see her children grow up.

Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? - Both, Gaeul can be very convincing and Teddy will just stare down at their children wordlessly lmao.

Cooking:

Who does the most cooking? - While Teddy's skills get better over the years, it's still Gaeul who cooks the most.

Who is the most picky in their food choice? - I don't think either are picky.

Who does the grocery shopping? - They go together because it's a moment they surprisingly like to share, no matter how tired or lazy they might be.

How often do they bake desserts? - Gaeul likes to experiment in the kitchen, especially once they have children, so she'd bake desserts at least twice a month, if not more as she gets better!

Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? - Meat lovers.

Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? - At first it would be Gaeul but I feel like Teddy would get better at making such surprises as well. Even if he doesn't cook much, he'd be able to come up with a simple pasta dish, or something not too complicated just because he knows that it'll make her happy.

Who is more likely to suggest going out? - Gaeul!

Who is more likely to burn the house down accidently while cooking? - That'd be probably Teddy for a while? Or even Gaeul if she gets too distracted and forgets she had something cooking in the oven.

Chores:

Who cleans the room? - Teddy because Gaeul tends to be a little all over the place with all of her books and then with kids toys

Who is really against chores? - None of them, they're pretty okay with chores

Who cleans up after the pets? - Gaeul, since they're hers to begin with, so they're her responsibility.

Who is more likely to sweep everything under the rug? - Gaeul, when she's feeling very lazy but then Teddy would stare at her until she's properly cleaning up.

Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? - It honestly depends of who's visiting them.

Who found a dollar between the couch cushions while cleaning? - Gaeul and then she'd say something like, "I forgot I put that one here", haha.

Misc:

Who takes the longer showers/baths? - Gaeul has always enjoyed relaxing in warm bubble baths so it's definitely her. And if Teddy joins her, it lasts even longer.

Who takes the dog out for a walk? - They don't have a dog but if they did, probably Teddy.

How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? - Gaeul loves holidays so she decorates the house each single time!

What are their goals for the relationship? - They just want to be happy together and have a happy family and make sure that their children know that they're wanted and loved and cherished.

Who is most likely to sleep till noon? - Before they become parents, both could have such mornings where they slept until noon. And after becoming parents, they took turns until the kids were old enough to take care of themselves.

Who plays the most pranks? - Gaeul, but Teddy also has some pranks up his sleeve!

7. What would make you leave a fandom, or prevent you from getting into it in the first place?

Honestly, the only thing that makes me leave a fandom is naturally losing interest in it--just letting it run its course, you know? Maybe if I’d ever been seriously involved in any drama, it would have been enough to sour me on a fandom, but (partly for that very reason) I’ve always kind of kept to the fringes. At this point I’m old enough and impervious enough that no amount of second-hand cringe is capable of keeping me from a fandom I genuinely enjoy. Especially since I survived the Hetalia fandom in its heyday, like, lololololol, WOW, what a special, special dumpster fire that was.

Similarly, nothing really prevents me from getting into a fandom, save for the canon not really grabbing me? Alternatively, sometimes (oftentimes?) I just find the canon satisfying enough on its own and don’t feel the need to explore the characters and/or the world any more.

I don’t actually have any ships going with any non-video game or anime muses, or at least muses that don’t use anime/manga/game art as faceclaims. So at this time, I’m going to leave that option be.

So I’m going to talk about OCs instead, after a disclaimer:

Disclaimer: I’m very fortunate and happy to write with quite a lot of OCs! This blog is very OC friendly, always has been and will be. However, I’m a bit uncomfortable chatting about Sonia/OC ships that I haven’t already discussed with the other mun first. With canon muses, it’s a bit easier to get away with that because you aren’t necessarily referring to someone’s specific portrayal of a muse, just the muse in general.

With OCs, you can’t really do that. So while there are interactions I could see going into platonic or romantic ship territory, I’d rather not mention it until Sonia has both interacted with said muses a bit more and the other mun is interested and eager to go in that direction. I do not want any of my mutuals to feel as if I’m forcing a ship on them for any reason, even if it’s just due to a meme.

All that being said, this list will be a bit shorter than my previous responses despite having some interest and ideas for other OCs.

Sonia/Argus ( @onlyhorn ) - Sonia’s more than a bit conflicted by the prospect of having romantic feelings for someone in her employ, but Argus is helpful, kind, and endearing, even if he isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer (this is fine! Sonia’s actually pretty book smart, but is lacking common sense). He also gave her a very heartfelt, thoughtful gift for her birthday last year which she hasn’t forgotten. But the fact that he’s her personal trainer does come with additional conflicts: mainly having to break her of her preferences for chocolate and other junk food, and how often he seems to go without a shirt. Argus probably should be a contender for the Chest Discourse conversation at this point.

Sonia will never forget to stay hydrated when he’s around.

Sonia/Wylan ( @cadcnce ) - If you ever want to see a ship where Sonia is constantly questioning why she’s feeling the way she does (because, for plenty of reasons, she probably shouldn’t), look no further. Because for as much as Wylan enables Sonia’s adventurous side (to his detriment. She actually got him to worry about her, which is a feat), he is outspoken, inappropriate, and had to go through several nicknames with her before settling on one she didn’t immediately dislike. Based on her past experiences, she has every reason to shut him down entirely: he has, on more than one occasion, complimented her looks in a very unwanted way and, at least when they first met, decided calling her ‘princess’ and ‘duchess’ was a good idea (this is not a good idea unless it’s an official event and her titles must be used). In theory, it’s enough to give her Kazuichi Souda vibes.

However, he also seems interested in learning about who she is, not just what she is, and that stops her from dismissing his company and flat out ignoring his advances. He’s absolutely the wrong sort of person her family and friends alike would want her to be with, but more often than not, Sonia finds herself having fun and relaxing around him. She doesn’t have to be in princess mode constantly and after he became more forthcoming with who he is as well, she’s just as fascinated to learn about him as he is about her.

Her troubles, besides being reminded of what it’s like to be a ‘hot blonde princess’ on occasion, is feeling like she’s just another job to him, someone to look after (and not kill, at least. Hopefully!). Because she’s never considered him to be anything resembling work, though she may be forced to change that line of thinking as their storyline progresses (as reluctant as she is to do so). Sonia can, if prompted, admit to him that she’s always seen him as a friend and not a colleague, but prodding at her to admit anything deeper at this point will probably result in failure.

She’s also now seen him without his shirt and dressed up. This only complicates her growing, confusing feelings she has for him at least he kept his trousers on.

Sonia/Atsuko ( @trinitytalents ) - Finally, one of my favorite slow-burn, Sonia constantly questioning herself ships! It’s very easy to see why Sonia would be attracted to Atsuko: she’s protective (it’s her talent, after all), they share some hobbies (guns and romance movies? They can always bond over something!), and Atsuko is a beautiful girl. The problem for Sonia is that Sonia’s just starting to figure out that she’s not heterosexual nor heteroromantic (and her family will despise and not accept both) and Atsuko isn’t looking for a relationship right now. In fact, Sonia’s not even certain Atsuko even regards her with the same love and adoration she feels for her close friend. This, as it stands, is Sonia’s unrequited love storyline and it pulls at my heart for Sonia to finally recognize she’s in love with Atsuko Manaka, but feels that no one will support her nor will Atsuko reciprocate her feelings. It’s a very fun ship to write.

Gift — He’s pretty shit with this, I’m not going to lie. He’ll just give you a little charm or trinket he made himself, or a few flowers, and call it good. Financial constraints don’t help, but he doesn’t necessarily need money when he can get creative and make...odd things for you. He may even prefer to write a little something for you instead.

Affection — Openly, unabashedly, freely. Next to nothing holds him back from showing his affection to his sweetheart. He answers to his heart before he listens to reason, and he will delight in it. To his detriment, perhaps, but one cannot turn their nose up at his warm smiles or the fondness in his eyes. Frankly, V will not care if someone else is annoyed by his displays of affection. That’s just too bad for them; V does not have long to live on Earth and believes he must enjoy every present moment. So, he’s going to be mushy and impossible. The kinds of affection he gives are really all the usual ones: hand holding, kisses, nuzzles, hugs, sweet nothings, pet names, flirting. He’ll go the extra mile and write poetry for his beloved, read things aloud to them. He is coquettish in his own way, and he can be a real stinker to his sweetheart deliberately, but it’s all out of love. He never means to insult or injure. All in all, affection is a must.

Romance — Plainly, V is more a romantic man than a cynical one—and a Romantic. Actually, he can be as cynical as anyone, and there is cynicism in the Romantic philosophy. However, because V’s interactions with others have not been quite so encouraging, he cannot help but be skeptical of others, even timid to an extent. He’s seen a lot of evidence that more or less proves that his fellow man is less than wholesome. On the other hand, he likes to think that people on the whole deserve the benefit of the doubt. He has the hope that people will ultimately be better when it counts. V has both a realistic and idealistic view of life, and I’d say he strikes a fine balance between the two.

When it comes to love, he is almost entirely an idealist. His sweetheart can only be good, and even the things he sees in them that would raise questions in his own mind would be excused straight away or dismissed. He loves blindly, an utter romantic about it.

Yours — Guilty as charged. The man can’t help but want to protect those he deems in need. It’s a part of his nature to care for others, he simply cannot help it, even when his help is unwanted. It’s essentially his job to protect others, so there’s that element to it as well. He’ll understandably want to protect his sweetie more than anyone, but he keeps himself in check. If they’re capable of protecting themselves, he won’t go very far with his actions. But, of course, he’ll never fail to remind them to be careful; and, whether they like it or not, he’s going to keep an eye on them when a dangerous situation arises. In combat, he will have their back and never stray from their side. He has glue all over him, he can’t be pried away no matter the situation.

Valentine — Valentine’s Day is generally like any other day for him. Being as sentimental as he is, however, he does appreciate the fact that love and romance have a full dedicated day. In his ship verse, he will undoubtedly want to commemorate the day with his beau. It’s, really, an excuse to be even more mushy and attentive and lovey-dovey, and he’s more than okay with that.

4. What is/are your favorite trope(s)?

you know what i actually like all kinds of tropes, it just depends on the execution and the characters. in general i enjoy friends to lovers, especially childhood friends just bc i think being in love with someone who’s always been a part of your life and understands you is... a whole lot. it’s the INTIMACY for me. lately most of my favorite ships have been pseudo-incest that have this kinda vibe (but a lot more complicated - fiveya, jonsa, arvnora)

i also love life-changing romance that ends in tragedy (his dark materials is a good example of this) also... loyalty? is that a trope? or more, i enjoy tropes that have a lot of loyalty imbedded in them, king and lionheart, captain and second-in-command, etc

11. What makes a great ship in your own opinion?

the on-screen chemistry and the potential. the ships that i tend to obsess over aren’t necessarily “canon” (and that’s never really mattered to me) will have a few electric moments in canon that opens up a world of possibilities. the more you can think about the potential of a ship, the more interesting it is. that’s why usually when something is super textbook canon i’m not AS interested bc the fun of the shipping is gone lol. not to say that i don’t enjoy on-screen canon romances, but a lot of the fun is in the subtlety and putting the pieces together for yourself.

but maybe i only think that bc i’m an overthinker. and also it’s difficult for me to get behind most “canon” romance anyways bc the writing almost always misses the mark imo... hard for me to like canon stuff without heavy revision in my head but eh.

26. What are your favorite shipping scenes?

the ones that make me cry

no but really, i love shipping scenes (that don’t necessarily have to be romantic) that bring me emotional catharsis with the themes of the story. whether it’s tragic (five staring at vanya longingly as she patches him up) or a conclusion (martha and jonas at the end of the world) or even like... a reunion scene (jon and sansa meeting at castle black) any scene that is like heavy with emotional implications is going to make me scream. i know this is like... really vague.

but also, i love anything with... hands. you know?? HANDS.

my love language is quality time, words of reassurance. i'm enfp-t, scorpio, hufflepuff, i'm french muslim pansexual nonbinary they/he/she, i use any pronouns but this is the order i prefer. i have long curly light brown hair, almond shaped hazel eyes and a few beauty marks on my face. i'm 163cm/5'4ft. i have a wide smile with dimples. i'm chubby and will start a diet for myself and only myself. my favourite colours are lavender (or most shades of purple like russian violet and midnight purple), green sage, canary yellow, light grey blue and brick red. i'm open minded, would defend anyone i think is being right but judged. i really hate unfairness even in the littlest things, as well as toxicity in any form, it triggers me. i'm a people pleaser. i'm an affectionate person. i show my love to my friends by making fun of them (i never cross the line though) or of myself. i am funny and creative. if I can make someone laugh even if i have to embarrass myself in the process i get really happy. i am clumsy (trip on air and hit myself against furniture constantly also almost drop anything i hold). i'm sarcastic and humorous. i often quote vine or audios on tiktok i find funny. i am basically a walking meme i guess. i have a funny laugh and laugh a lot. i am a happy person. i can be loud one moment and suddenly really calm. i am an ambivert. i'm stubborn but patient. i'm sensitive and prefer to talk things out, i'm pretty calm but can get scary when annoyed or really angry. my biggest pet peeve is when people talk to me but when someone will try to get their attention they will right away go to talk to them as if i wasn’t talking in the first place and what i was saying is meaningless, so when people interrupt me and don’t listen to me. i have this habit of cracking my bones constantly, it relaxes me.

i am always listening to music with earphones, dancing and making choreographies. i enjoy listening to kpop. i like to write and when i do i like to put in as many details as possible. i have two cats. i like learning languages, i can speak french, english fluently, italian and spanish moderately and i'm starting to learn korean seriously. i dress in multiple aesthetics. i own 'quirky' earrings. i like makeup. i want to experience a lot with my hair, i would love to bleach and dye it in multiple colours. i believe that family doesn't necessarily mean blood for personal reasons and from experience. i am the kind of person who likes to do multiple things though i often stop something and never or later finish it. i'm overly confident yet extremely self-conscious. i often need reassurance because of trauma i have and trust issues with my family with transphobia and homophobia. my favourite series are alice in borderland and the umbrella academy. i like animes. i get scared easily but laugh and scream when i get scared. i speak with my hands a lot and i am really expressive. i use the finger guns too much and the word period too haha. i zone out a lot and talk to myself constantly. i would like to become an english teacher and still dance in the future. the perfect date would be either chilling in my apartment, going out to the amusement park or a picnic. i get slightly shy when i first meet someone but warm up to them fast. i get shy with people who are interested in me romantically even if i knew them for a while.

the magic seemed to flow fairly naturally, quite instantly beginning to yank at your hair, slowly recoloring it.
