Happy 40th Sebastian!

This is a highly self-indulgent thing, that popped into my head when I found out Sebastian’s 40th birthday plans.

When the clock struck midnight on the new year, all Sebastian could think was, "Fuck, I’m turning 40 this year."

Not a second has gone by since without him reminding his closest friends. Lamenting the fact that his back aches more, hangovers are note the same, and he's getting old.

He's only partially serious about the complaining. He's actually quite proud of everything he's achieved over the past 40 years, the wisdom that comes with age, the new heights of his career. He’s proud of his of himself and who he's chosen to surround himself with.

Speaking off - Sebastian lifts his head from where it’s cradled on his arms as he lounges in the pool, looking out onto the sea - the lights of the house are on, casting shadowy silhouettes behind closed doors. His friends had left him with strict instructions to stay away and he's only too happy to oblige, welcoming the reprieve after a ridiculously busy year.

He still wonders how he got so lucky in the friend jackpot; friends who took on planning a Greek getaway when he'd floated an idea to the boys a few months ago.

He picks his phone up from the edge of the pool.

11:55.

Five more minutes till he's 40. Fuck, he's old. The grey in his beard emphasizes that. The wrinkles around his eyes. The twinge in his right thumb when he’s on the phone for too long.

11:58.

Its fitting he's turning 40 in Greece. He's in the same time zone in which he was born. Its symbolic somehow: he’s come full circle and not cheating time.

He doesn’t get a chance to look at his phone again, his friends beating the clock when they emerge from the house, loud and obnoxious, singing, "Happy birthday to youuuuu." They’re carrying a ridiculously large cake that sends him laughing and he knows its midnight.  

He lifts himself out of the pool and laughs harder at the fire on top of the cake.

"How many candles?" He manages to choke out.

"Forty," Chace answers, proudly. “I counted.”

That means there’s probably forty-three or thirty-nine candles, but Sebastian’s too happy to care, taking in a deep breath before he leans over the cake.

"Don't forget to make a wish!" Toby yells and then Sebastian blows with all his might. He gets them all, except for one.

He thinks back to his still dark phone, closes his eyes, and blows out the last candle.

As birthdays go, its one of the bests. He wakes up to brilliant blue skies, even bluer waters, a yacht waiting to take the group out to sea, and a phone full of messages, notifications, and voice notes.

He takes his time basking in the love and takes even longer talking to his mom. He knows she knows how much he loves her, for not only bringing him into the world but also for raising him and all the sacrifices she's made. If he's 40, that means his mother is getting older and he has every right to be sentimental, to get teary eyed as he listens to her accented declarations of love. When he tries to return the sentiments, she tuts and tells him to go off with his friends.

He checks his phone once more after he hangs up, frowning slightly at a distinctly absent name in his notifications. He shrugs it off: its still early in Boston, there's plenty of time.

He tells himself the same thing when they’re done breakfast, and again when they get on the yacht, and his phone is still missing that one birthday greeting he was looking forward to.

He's 40; his birthday is not dependent on one birthday wish.

The trip out on the yacht is incredible. He feels eternal, endless; caught between the sky above and the water around. His friends ply him with wine and pull him into the sea. When he’s sufficiently tanned and tired, he climbs back on board, shaking the water from his hair and licking the salt from his lips.

His phone screen is blank. No notifications at all.

Maybe the reception is bad.

"Expecting something?" Will smirks.

"Huh?" Sebastian is dragged from his thoughts to his friends looking at him with varying untrustworthy smiles that leave him narrowing his eyes. "No - I -" he fumbles with his words which is so rare with this group that he promptly shuts up.

When they make it back to the property, the sun is low in the sky and a heavy wooden table is set out by the pool, covered in delicate plates, rich candles, and too many forks for Sebastian to know what to do with.

He looks at his friends and Chace shrugs. "You're forty. Embrace the maturity and the class."

"He will never have class," Toby cackles as he slaps Sebastian's back and beelines it to the shower.

Sebastian seconds that idea, heading to the ensuite in his room. He washes away the salt and sun that have embedded into his skin. He can’t believe his birthday is nearly done, the anticipation and build up of the last few weeks, leading to hours that have just slipped away.

Good hours. Great, even.

Except.

When he steps out to style his hair and dress in a flowy, white, button down and pants, the sun is even lower, the sky beginning to smudge with pink and purple.

His phone has a few more notifications. But still not the one he was looking for.

As a punishment for the thought, he leaves it on his bed, heading out to dinner to catch the last few rays of his birthday.

Only.

When he steps out, there’s a distinctive set of shoulders, biceps, and ass standing against the setting sun. The sight makes Sebastian freeze in his tracks.

The mild chatter comes to a halt when the door shuts behind Sebastian and everyone turns to face him. He spares his friends a glance, making a note to discuss their shit-eating grins on their faces, but his attention is quickly brought back to that one smile that always makes time stand still.

"What - " Sebastian attempts, taking a tentative step closer. He can't say anything else, replaying late night conversations that had gotten longer and sweeter the past year, whispered hints of something more, promises of things to come, and making it impossible to ignore the growing feelings.

"My flight was delayed. I thought I wouldn’t make it, but - I’m here. Sorry I missed last night and well - most of today." He steps toward Sebastian, away from the group.

"But you had plans - with your family - you -" Sebastian knows he’s gaping, must look like an idiot. But he was expecting a text, a phone call if he’s being honest - not for him to show up in person.

"Chris," he says weakly, incredulously.

"Happy 40th, Seb," Chris says and then he’s engulfed in those arms, and Sebastian doesn’t need to pinch himself, because he’s not dreaming.

This is real.

Chris is really here, holding him, his nose tucked into Sebastian’s neck.

When Chris pulls back, its barely an inch, but its too much distance, much too soon, and Sebastian’s hands tighten their hold on Chris’ shirt as he looks into blue that’s more stunning than the sea or the sky.

Chris is staring back with a mirroring intensity before he says, "Fuck, you’re beautiful," and then the hand in Sebastian’s hair flexes and there’s no longer any distance between them because he's being kissed.

Warm and soft, expert lips prying open his own; hot, wet tongue sliding against his and Sebastian moans, pressing in closer, yearning to feel the solid length of Chris against him.

When they draw apart, gasping for breath, only then does Sebastian hear the hollers and cheers from his friends, Chace's distinctive voice yelling ‘fucking finally,’ and he breaks into a giddy laugh.

Judging by the brilliant red on Chris' face, deeper in the golden hour - he suspects Chris had forgotten their audience too.

"Sorry, I had envisioned us being in private when that happened, but you look so good and its your birthday -" he breaks off when Sebastian runs his nose along Chris.’

He says with a smile, "I think you should wish me again."

And Chris does, mouth eagerly finding Sebastian's, claiming it in a hungry kiss, that’s harder, deeper, hotter.

This – this - is the best birthday gift. Kissing Chris against a vibrant Greek sky, surrounded by his closest friends, and the smell of salt in the air.

Its surreal, its beautiful, its 40 and he thinks - the best is yet to come.

intro 7/19

life at the moment fucking sucks. you know how you watch those tiktoks or movies or videos on youtube about growing pains and somehow empathizing with someone thats going through the same thing as you makes you feel a little more significant? yeah well, the feeling doesn't go away. growing up is about being okay with never talking to the people you thought were your life long friends every again. not because you had a fight or a falling out, but because thats how life is and people just drift apart. i want to be as candid as possible when i write my feelings out. i decided to bring blogs back alive one post at a time. no these posts wont be edited. i wont even look back to read them. i suffer from perfectionism and honestly if i went back and edited anything or read anything i wouldn't want to post this. my goal is to go back and read these in 10 years and hopefully smile at these points and show myself how much ive actually healed from now.

but back to what my intro was mainly about. growing up is experiencing love and heart break every step of the way. growing up is realizing that people are not who you percieve them as, and you are not how you percieve yourself. growing up is realizing everyone has their own story, and your more of a narrator than a main character. honestly, I don't mind being the narrator, at least I get to watch a lot of things happening from a birds eye view. but the problem about being the narrator is that in this reality, you don't know the future. i wish i got a 30 second instagram reel of the next 4 months of my life. I truly have no idea what i want to do with my future and i am scared of how much i romanticize just disappearing physically and possibly mentally. I really want to disappear. I don't want to end it all, I truly believe I have a lot more to offer in this world, but its hard when all I dreamed of as a kid was to be in a relationship and have a bunch of friends and family around me. how its looking is that ill be single forever and my friends will constantly come and go.

i feel like the love that i put into my friendships is honestly as passionate as the love i put into my family, and it sucks when people dont reciprocate that perspective. its hard to set more boundaries for myself to lower those expectations. growing up is realizing that you might have morals and expectations that you think are common sense or common decency, but are not. not everyone grows up this type of outlook. people say that you should always present your authentic self so the people that deserve you will gravitate towards you, and while I don't disagree with this, its really hard to put it into practice in this day and age. i don't know how much energy i have left to show my authentic self for those who don't deserve it. its hard to constantly have to put all of your energy into a friendship or relationship to realize that its not going to work out and you have to find it elsewhere. its exhausting. im fucking exhausted and i'm only 22. I thought 22 was going to be different. I hope 23 will be different.

I feel like the world is a battlefield and i'm getting hit from all fronts. i cant seek a relationship because men are manipulative or deceiving. i cant seek friendship because people are dealing with their own shit and will either brush you off or dump shit on you. it feels like i just cant be bothered to have friends. but i'm not the type that can be alone and not feel lonely. i'm just sick of all of this shit and getting older fucking sucks. I'm only 22 but I feel like if this is what its like to live on this early for 22 years, I can't even begin to grasp how being 40 feels.

this blog is an echo-chamber. please do not provide rebuttals. i am not looking for help. i want to this to be a self-improvement journey that was done by me, for me, and with only me.

....at the same time though i do get very sensitive when faced w/ criticism even if its of the fair variety when its not phrased really gently for various reasons and i dont like that. especially since I have a tendency to not even talk to people about it. I’ll just immediately start distancing myself. also other than that i think overall I have a really high tolerance lvl but if you cross that line I hold a grudge like a motherfucker

cats! dogs are good too but cats are a lot easier for me to handle...and quieter generally but even when they’re loud cat sounds dont get to me quite as much as barks do

the lack of responsibility, probably. that sounds real bad lmao but for me its like...I know I’ve grown in various ways over the years but I also feel like so many of my experiences, my trauma, my mental health has held me back and I don’t think I’m mentally where I should be for my age. so all the responsibility of adulthood is just..really overwhelming for me sometimes, even though ive been given a pass from certain aspects of it and the rest is pretty simple its the idea!!!!

i cant stand passive aggressive behavior. my stance is either get over it or quit acting like a bitch because otherwise im just going to ignore you thats the scorpio way (in all seriousness I really, really do recommend not putting up with it and ignoring it until they decide to be up front with you. it can be exhausting constantly reading into conversations and its not healthy for you or them. if they have something to say they need to learn to talk about it properly, and that lack of social skills is not ever on you)

yep! i think about....six or so? i love them...which is really funny im autistic and EVERYTHING about them should freak me out and they do in other circumstances but at a show i just live for it

probably that you have to look at your accomplishments differently when you’re disabled or just struggling, to not be so down on yourself because its a fact that what might be a mole hill to someone else is a mountain to you and you have to judge yourself accordingly. Like maybe you weren’t able to clean the whole house, but washing the dishes and tidying your desk doesn’t usually get done but you did it. That that should be celebrated because while it would also feel good if you did more, you still did something and thats great all things considered.

So i started out by researching this procedure like everyone else now a days, on the internet. i started with youtube because well, it was easy. i just watched women go on and on about their stories of why or how and the after surgery effect and the 5 years later videos. Then i turned to actual research on websites about the procedure and the different kinds of ways to get it done. and let me tell you a few things i found. I found that 99% of the women i was watching on youtube already had kids. i was reading so many stories of women being turned down because of their lack of kids, their age, and because they were single! I also had an extreme need to get this all done within two months. why you ask, let me lay this out real quick. one major reason....INSURANCE.  I do have my own insurance through my workplace but like most people i know who didn’t get the privilege of going to college and having a nice shiny degree right about now and a great job that has good insurance, i would have to pay alot of $$$$$ out of pocket going through my work. so i decided to use my mothers which im still on for two more months. i know i know i see you in the back rolling ya eyes. well this is MY story get over it. so anyway it was cheaper for me to go that route and pay that way. since it was a preventative surgery it was 100 covered through her insurance. Now came the hard part. trying to scramble and find a doctor with an opening and hope that he will be willing to do the surgery on me despite having no kids, being young,and legal single. So i called around and i found a doctor. My consultation date was june 6th. at that time it was the end of may and i had about 2 weeks to prepare. i was watching videos and reading and writing notes on every little thing i found out. i stayed up until 2 am researching for 5 hours straight, i wrote down real data and different ways to do the surgery, weather to be burned tied cut use the eshore method or something else.and all the reason why i did not want kids. all my familys health issues my boyfriends health issues and everything untill i felt prepared to go in for battle and defend my decision come hell or high water. and eventually the day came. I brought my boyfriend for support and back up. (because i read somewhere in some states you cannot have this done unless your spouse signs off on it) how crazy is that??? so i wanted them to see he fully supported me. although we are not married we have been together for years. So the nurse calls me back and we go over the family history and that i have no kids (which is kinda the point in getting this done) i wanted to stay that way. and she looked at me grimmly and i felt pretty down like i had about a 40% chance of getting approved by the way the nurse was talking. i waited another long 10 minutes and the doctor came in.......he, yes HE i opted for a male since he had the soonest opening at that time, sat down with us and we did a short and sweet family history lesson again and he started to ask me what i knew about the procedure. heavily armed with all my knowledge gearing up for a long and hard debate i simply said i knew the different methods and which i preferred and threw in a few facts to start things off. he whipped out a diagram of a womens lower half and started telling me how the procedure would be done. he asked if i had kids already and i said no, that was strike one. he asked if i was married i said no but im technically engaged i felt like there was strike two, then he asked my age and i said 25 and he said okay if your sure then lets do this what day works for you? i sat there stunned and i looked at my partner and back at the doc and i said thats it? he said well yes. i said how can that be so easy? he said well your 25 and in (my state) they like you to atleast be 24 ok so that was one pass. and you dont have kids we usually like you to have one kid, so that was one fail,....then he said well your engaged so ill count that as married and we like to do it on women already married so thats 2 out of 3 and you seem really determined. i said wow i cant believe it was this easy. i was researching for hours and i had 6 pages of handwritten material ready to show you. he laughed about it. it really was not as hard as going into battle as i thought it was going to be. So we set the date one month from that day. Mainly because of my stupid work rules you have to request off a month ahead of time and i wanted to assure the doc i was willing to think on it more even though i was set on it. so im a week and 2 days away from my surgery day and exactly one week away from my pre op appt to go over paperwork. Although it was not a huge struggle to get approved on a small time frame like i thought it would me, that really is the case for some women in different states. they had to go to 2,3, even 4 doctors before finding one to approve them. Even when they are +30 years old or already have a kid. I am thankful that wasn’t my struggle. but this, this is my story. i just wanted to get this out there to show other younger or older women out there looking for this like me, to not give up on fighting and find a doctor who will help. and make this a more public issue. It is ridiculous that in 2017 a women needs her husbands approval to ger her tubes tied? she doesnt need that for an abortion. he can get a vasectomy without his wifes approval. why do some doctors get to tell you your to young you might change your mind. okay well if I change MY mind thats my fault and ill deal with it. there is ivf and adoption if i do. why make you have one or more kids already before doing a procedure to prevent kids? sure you can have some kids then make sure you dont have to worry about more but for the women who just plain never want any kids they shouldnt be singled out and made to have one first. kids are just not for some people for many reasons. and we need to change the way this all works. why is easier for a man to get fixed? why is okay of a women with 2 kids to get fixed but frowned upon for a women with none? why do doctors think age will change our mind? whats the magic number when we know what we know and we are not gonna change our mind? 80? too late. most place your an adult at 18 or even more so 21. so why cant we make that adult decision at 21? i personally knew since i was a pre teen i did not ever want a kid. i love sleep, crying aggravates me, and throw up causes me to have a mental breakdown. (emitaphobia). so why did i have to wait till 25 for anyone to take me seriously? this was my story please share yours with me.

Honestly I’m thinking about someone. I wish I wasn’t just because I don’t like thinking about people who don’t want me in the same way that I want them. All that does is create pain and I rather avoid feeling that confusing feeling that is love. I mean if the love was returned then it’s great but who knows, Maybe it’s better if we aren’t together. We can only let time tell.

Confusion/Regret. In my head I’m always trying to avoid conflict/making someone feel any sort of negative emotion. And any time I make a mistake i regret everything. And I’m always feeling confusion because I never know how I can really improve who I am as a person.

Winter. I love cold weather. TMI but honestly I sweat too much to be comfortable during any hot season. And I’m a very affectionate person so I cant hug people as much during the summer. During the winter I’m always loving on my friends lol. Plus if you’re in a relationship, those “cold-outside-but-cuddling-inside” days are lovely.

No. Honestly outta nowhere like yesterday or two days ago I realized that I had some strong feelings for someone I’m close to and dated in the past. I started talking about if we were dating and I just moved way too fast. I regretted everything i said instantly and just played it off as whatever. In the moments following her telling me that I’m moving too fast I was just snapped back to reality and decided I needed to calm myself down. Looking back I did seem crazy. But it’s been so long since i had any feelings for anybody (to the point that I’d date them) and I just got excited if im going to be real. And I was also sick at the time so I’m just laying in bed picturing me with them and it seemed like we could work really well together. But it’s okay. I’m just gonna take my time. I don’t know whether I should move on or pursue her at a slower pace. So for now I’m just gonna be big chillin.

Introvert. Unless it’s really some people I’m comfortable with I’m pretty timid. Even with out with some of my closest friends I’d rather just be home.

The stars. There’s this street not too far from my friends house and me and him have driven down it a few times now. When you’re on this street, if you turn off your headlights and look up the sky has very little light pollution and it’s beautiful. The moon is rarely close enough for me to enjoy.

I love the smell of a lot of different foods. But looking back, my favorite smell used to be the perfume that my girlfriend constantly used. I ran into one person who used the same one as her some time after we broke up and for lack of a better term, it triggered lots of memories of her. But I used to love it. Not because the scent was so good, but rather because I was in love with her and everything about her.

32. where do you feel most at home?

In my room. I used to have these black bags over my window which allowed very little light into my room and as I said earlier, I prefer darkness. But I took those down recently as a metaphorical enlightenment and symbol for how my life was headed in a brighter, more positive direction. It sort of works, but mainly I love my room because at night time I’m never bothered. And it seems like a safe space. At 2 a.m. in my room, I’m alone. My parents won’t call me for random tasks, teachers can’t pester me about random assignments, and I can just do whatever I want.

33. what scares you the most?

Honestly the last time i was seriously afraid of something, I was afraid that I had caused some major damage to someone I trust and love. So I’m terrified of hurting other people. I’ve seen so many people be hurt by so many things. I never want to see myself become the source of someone’s terror.

God knows I do. But honestly something about soulmates that I always question is the setting of a pair of soulmate’s birth. For example, what if you weren’t born in the same location and/or time period as your soulmate. If it’s just the location, you can roam the Earth and possibly meet them if your lucky. But if you never leave your hometown, in my opinion your soulmate probably isn’t born in your hometown. I think you need to explore to find them. And I hate to be pessimistic, but i think that you aren’t guaranteed to meet your soulmate, if they do exist. So the vast majority of people don’t meet them. But I hate thinking like that. It puts me in a very nihilistic point of view.

I try hard to spread love and positivity. I have so much love in my heart.

Honestly i dont know.

Childish Gambino. I had a huge Gambino phase during early high school. I connected to a lot of his music and his personality that was portrayed through different interviews. He was mysterious to me because he doesnt use social media and just keeps to himself a lot. But I like “Camp” because i felt like a lot of that music was relatable to a “White, Black Kid” which was something i struggled a lot with in middle school. I’m fully black but people called me “white” due to my behavior. Which was basically not enforcing black stereotypes. And due to peer pressure I took on the role of the “White, Black Kid” or the “Oreo” (Black on the outside and white on the inside). 

38. what was your first kiss like?

It was for my 14th birthday. Looking back on it, it was a mess because I was hella insecure at the time. I was just nervous and asked like 3 times which ruined the mood. I was just surprised that someone wanted to kiss me period. But it was at an ice skating rink for my birthday. It was just me and a bunch of friends but I was “talking” to this girl at the time. Basically we went sit on the other side of the rink and was just talking. All my other friends were trying to look at us which also didnt help my insecurity/bad nerves. But I did it. And i was so happy for the following few days lol.

Tbh, probably. I’m very open to criticism but I also get hurt fairly easily.

40. when was the last time you cried?

A few days ago. Either out of pain from my tooth or heart ache whenever I was first told to slow it down with the girl i was into. Ik its silly to cry over something that small but idk. I’m just being honest and letting yall know the last time i cried.

Yeah. That’s the kind of love I want. I want to take some time and enjoy my teenage years but then fall in love with one person and i want to be with that one person forever. I just dont trust enough people to think that we’d last forever tho. That’s why I don’t get into relationships too often. I won’t get into a relationship if I don’t see me and that person lasting.

I’m not too spiritual but I wouldn’t be surprised if Heaven and Hell existed. I’m way too simpleminded to try and comprehend what lies in the afterlife though.

I’m not sure if this question is asking what thoughts keep me up, or what thoughts put me to sleep. A lot of thoughts keep me up. But it’s not the thoughts themselves, but rather my inability to sleep. I don’t have insomnia but usually if i’m up, I’m up because i don’t want to go to sleep, or im in some sort of discomfort/pain thats keeping me up. And sometimes I don’t go to sleep because I’m texting someone and either im hoping we can have an “interesting” convo or i just wanna stay up and talk to em. And lately either being sick, or my unattended dental problems keep me up.

Okay, lets be honest. As big as space is, you expect me to believe that we’re the only living beings? Yeah okay. Sure. Lol

My friend brought me medicine at work and lord knows I was so grateful because I was seriously struggling. It’s not the nicest but goddamn did I appreciate it.

I find it hard to trust somebody with my heart. As in I don’t trust many people enough to date them. I’m actually very open which can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. I see it as good because I feel that it makes me pretty approachable. But it’s bad because I leave myself susceptible to getting hurt by being open.

The case is complicated and it is about my car insurance. I misinformed my insurance company about my NCD. As a result they cancelled my policy. The problem is that before they cancelled it I had a claim. My car was not damage at all but the other guy had a few scratches on the bumper and he reported the incident. My insurance company informed me; they would cancel the policy and return all the payments I made so far. They would cover the cost of the damage to another guy, but I have to repay all the cost they bear.
