A Need For Something (a Ross Gaines x Joseph Lisgoe fanfic)
Remember when I said I wanted an tender, intimate Gainsgoe fic (3 words I didn't think could be used in a sentence) based on the above quote? Well, this is it! This was perhaps my biggest challenge because how does one write a tender Gainsgoe fic? The answer: with great difficulty
Please remember that I used the quote as a prompt rather than the scene itself, this is NOT a crossover fic or a rewrite of the actual scene because I haven't seen the show the quote comes from (which I've learned is apparently Outlander)
They were at Ross' house when it happened
Neither of them could remember when they started being around each other socially, but it had something to do with the fact they both liked movies that made others sick to their stomach. So, in the end, it worked out well
Soon, it ended up being a conversation about work. Ross was the one to bring it up, much to the exasperation of Lisgoe, who was much happier focusing on the poor man being torn to shreds on his TV screen
"How far have you gone to collect a debt?"
"Knocked out a lot of teeth," Lisgoe answered casually "I keep those in a jar under my desk. Once smashed someone dick and balls in with my knee - that was fun."
"Do you always use violence? Surely people come to expect that, a change in pace would benefit you-"
Lisgoe looked at the TV, clearly hiding something he didn't want to divulge. After a few darting glances at Ross, who was watching him like a hawk, he caved with a huff
"Maybe once or twice, and I'm not proud of it, I felt like I was pimping myself out. But a few times I've needed to... sweet-talk my way in. Never kissed anyone, and I do not fuck them. The people here look like they were made in a lab."
"You've never kissed one?" There was a hint of surprise present in his tone "I mean, clearly too much is unecessary, but you've never gotten close?"
"No. I'd rather cement myself into a bathtub and let ants eat me alive. Besides, I can't think of a single person that would want to do anything with me except knock me out."
They watched the movie in silence, the only sound being the screams of the actors. After a while, they realised that it wasn't worth it and turned it off. That's when it happened
"I would quite like to."
"Like to what?"
"Kiss you."
Lisgoe looked at him with a confused expression. He couldn't quite believe it - actually, he didn't believe it at all
"What the fuck?"
There was no trace of mockery in Ross' eyes. No trace of smugness on his lips. No raise in the eyebrows
It was as if he were telling the truth
"May I?"
Ross' face was still, which unnerved him slightly
"What the fuck?"
"You've said that already."
"And I'll say it again: what the fuck?"
"Don't swear, it's unnecessary."
"It's completely necessary!" Lisgoe's left eye involuntarily twitched, a tiny tell of confusion "I mean... who just asks that?! Especially you! I thought you were completely against me and everything I am. I also didn't think you knew what a kiss was!"
"Rude. But OK."
"And it just- no! No it's not OK! You just sprung that shite on me out of nowhere!"
"Then pretend I didn't say anything."
The look on Lisgoe's face said it all: are you fucking joking?
In the thick, heavy silence, there was a strange and tense energy that they wanted gone as soon as possible. Lisgoe was the one to break it
"I think the rumours are true."
"Excuse me?"
"The ones about that failed comedian and Legz Akimbo's shite director."
"Why are you gossiping with me like a schoolgirl?"
"It's either that or carrying on with the conversation, and I can't be arsed with that."
There was yet another pause, this seemed to be a trademark in their conversations
"Plimsolls and Tipps, two sour grapes in a bunch." Ross leaned back in his chair "A match made in pathetic Heaven."
"Heaven?" Lisgoe barked out a laugh "Are you sure?"
Neither of them could resist laughing a little at that. Lisgoe was slightly surprised to see Ross let the cold mask slip slightly, seeing him smile (actually smiling, not that arrogant little smirk) was a rare but not completely awful sight. He'd never admit it, even to himself, but Ross himself wasn't an awful sight either
Why the fuck would he ask something like that?
Try as he might, small talk wasn't going to shake their prior conversation from Lisgoe's head. As the silence settled around them again, he realised that he'd never actually answered the question. When Ross refused to meet his gaze, he could tell he wanted a response
"What you asked me wasn't OK."
"You've made that clear-"
"Shut up, I'm talking."
Once again, silence. Anymore and Lisgoe felt he would go mad
"What made it not OK is that it came out of nowhere and you expect me to magic up an answer like some magic bastard."
He stood up and stood in front of Ross with gritted teeth, not quite knowing how to force the words from his throat
"But what makes it a really fucking twisted thing to do," he continued, his voice hard as nails and rising from the pit of his stomach "is the fact that my immediate answer wasn't even no."
Ross stood up slowly, brows furrowed in a questioning gaze
"Excuse me?"
"Fuck off, you heard what I said. You just want it repeated back to you! Go on then, have your stupid fucking ego boost! My answer wasn't no. OK? It. Wasn't. Fucking. No."
"Joseph, calm down." Ross' voice was stern and demanding, his hands gripped at Lisgoe's shoulders to hold him still "For once, can't you talk without blowing up?"
At first, neither of then registered the contact. Once they did, they both froze. Their eye-contact was unbroken, neither knew what to say. Ross almost pulled away, but he noticed a tightness in Lisgoe's jaw that his right hand moved up to touch with a strange quality
A quality that should never be attributed to people like them
There was stillness. Slowness
Lisgoe couldn't understand why he was being treated like this. Nobody ever treated him like this, which he knew was partly because he never let anybody so close - and that was both figurative and literal! Even now, he refused to let his guard down. He wasn't going to close his eyes or let himself lean into those gentle hands. No, he was better than that
"What the fuck are you doing?" His voice was level and direct "You want one over me? Is that it?"
"You still haven't actually given me an answer, you just said the answer isn't no." Ross moved his left hand to Lisgoe's other cheek and repeated his previous question: "May I?"
His hands are warm
"Joseph?"
Why are they so fucking warm?
"Joseph, answer the-"
"Shh, I was about to talk!" He snapped, then composed himself "Yes. You may. If you want to word it like that."
At this point, Ross accepted that talking no longer meant anything, yet he only managed to move so close before his limbs seemed to shut down
Both their eyes were closed, barely a breath away from each other
"I haven't done this in a very long time."
"Ross," came the gravelly reply "do you really think I give a shite?"
That was the only hint needed before the gap between them was closed. It was strange, not the kiss itself, but rather how slow it was. How carefully everything seemed to slip into place, nothing felt rushed or frantic. There was no battle for dominance or control, it was built on a simplicity that was a surprise to both of them
"You've been smoking." Ross observed, only pulling away for a moment "A lot."
"Is that a problem?" He retorted "I only do it when I'm fucked off."
"Do you feel like smoking now?"
"The fuck is this? Rehab?"
"I'm asking because you're tense."
"So what? Doesn't matter, does it? Maybe I am tense, this isn't exactly an everyday occurance for me."
Once again, silence. This time though, it wasn't from awkwardness. Ross was giving him a chance to fill it, to let it spill out
"Why are you being kind to me?" Lisgoe asked "All this... gentle shite. It's like you're biding your time until you have me right where you want me. Then you'll fuck me over. So, if that's what this is, then I'm onto you." His voice contorted into a hollow laugh "So you can fuck off."
"... Joseph, when the hell did I say I was going to do that?"
"That's what people do." He responded, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world "Trust is a weapon, we both know that."
Ross couldn't argue with that. Not because he was lying, but because they'd both used trust as exactly that. A weapon
But now? It was something else, something much more destructive
"You're right." Ross said "I'm doing this for completely selfish reasons."
"I knew it."
"This is entirely for my benefit. Because you could stand here and tell me that you find me the most repulsive, grotesque man in all of Royston Vasey and I would still find a way to you because, as I've already told you, I want something from you. I don't know what, but I need something."
"You said need that time."
"It means the same thing."
"No, it doesn't. But you have that something. I let you kiss me, now can I go? Or is there some more bullshit you want to say?"
Ross went over to where Lisgoe was stood and knelt beside him, which earned him a questioning look
"Are you gonna suck me off or something?"
"No, I'm not."
"Then why the fuck are you kneeling?"
There was no response, instead Ross ran his fingertips slowly up Lisgoe's arm. Although he could feel him shiver slightly, there wasn't any outwardly negative reaction, so he let his hand trail upwards and rest on Lisgoe's upper arm. His other hand carefully guided the man's jaw so they were facing each other, then rested itself on the back of his neck
That warmth again Lisgoe could feel his breath hitch slightly why is it fucking everywhere? It squeezed and wrenched at every part of him, and the more he fought the urge to sink into it, the more it hurt
Then something happened
In the silence, the moment of pause, Lisgoe could feel his mind slipping slowly. And with it, there was something that caused him to gravitate towards Ross. It was invisible, powerful and completely unknown
But their lips fit together like puzzle pieces and there was nothing else

twenty questions for fic writers
Was tagged by @elenothar, @kholran, AND @fixaidea to do this meme, so I guess I should do this meme? XD
Where possible when linking fic, I've linked to my tumblr post and not the fic itself, so if you'd like to read the tags/further notes before jumping into the fic, you can. Also because all my fic are locked to users-only on AO3 these days because of AI nonsense. :P
Tagging: @laireshi, @enechelon, @difeisheng, @lizardrosen, @slangerogkatter, @kalypartemis, @dreamer-wisher-liar, @humanlighthouse, @shaish and as always, anyone who sees this and wants to do it. No obligations to participate, just an invitation to join in the fun. ^_^
How many works do you have on AO3?
171 works. And I have some from ff.net that I still haven't migrated over yet.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
1,415,465
...holy fuck, you guys. O_O
3. What fandoms do you write for?
*sobs in 'i've barely written anything this year'*
Actively (and I use the word loosely) I write for Mysterious Lotus Casebook, DMBJ, Granting You a Dreamlike Life, Guardian, and I'm dabbling around in South Wind Knows at the moment.
The rest of my responses behind a cut. ^_^
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Center Cannot Hold… But It Can Change (Rise of the Guardians (2012)) (3,649 words)
beyond the end of the story (镇魂 | Guardian (TV 2018)) (5,988 words) -- this story has a lovely podfic by @flamingwell, too, that I would heartily recommend.
Legacies Lost (陈情令 | The Untamed (TV)) (41,962 words)
When Is a Curse Not a Curse? When It Becomes a Gift. (盗墓笔记重启 | The Lost Tomb Reboot (TV)) (16,289 words) -- this story also has an incredible podfic, this time by @thelaithlyworm.
All of the Above and Much More Besides (Les Misérables - All Media Types) (12,007 words)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I used to respond to every single comment. Then I had a bad exchange where I just did NOT get to respond to comments because my life kind of... exploded. And then I felt so guilty for not responding to those amazing comments, that it built a giant wall of awful for me in front of "responding to comments." So now I really, really do my best, but sometimes I just can't. And it bothers me kind of a lot. *sigh*
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I think that honor goes to I Have Come To Sleep With You (warning: MCD) -- a fic that should have been a Barricade Day fic but somehow wasn't... which probably explains why it's the fic with the angstiest ending XD
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Four blocks from the barricade, Feuilly finally stopped his headlong flight, arrested by a shortness of breath from a wound left behind by a bullet that had had his own name written upon it… and by a query so softly voiced that he almost believed he had imagined it until he heard it again.
"You are bleeding." A short pause. "I believe you are wounded, my friend." Another pause. A wet laugh. "You and I are a matched set, I fear. Come. Sit with me, awhile. Rest. You are always racing about. A force not to be--" A harsh cough. "--stopped. It is why Enjolras admires you so."
I think most of my fic have happy endings? It's rare that I truly leave one sad. And I'm not sure how to judge which one is the happiest.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Thank goodness, no. Not usually. Though I have gotten a few insensitive comments or comments that made me uncomfortable before.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
^________^
Boy, do I. ;D
Of my 171 fic posted on AO3, 44 of them are rated M or E. And I'm not sure how to discuss what kind, but it's mostly M/M and a not insignificant number of them are tagged noncon and dead dove, so, that probably means something. ^_~
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I have written both crossovers and fusions. But if we're going with the classic definition of crossover (as in a story where characters from both canons interact), then probably my "craziest" one would be this one:
Five Times That Berger Saw Him, which is a Hair - MacDermot/Rado/Ragni x Eloise at the Plaza (Movies) crossover that grew out of the fact that Gavin Creel played both Claude in the 2009 Broadway Revival of Hair and Bill in the Eloise movies.
Major Character Death, Homelessness, Mistaken Identity, Romance, Grief
The first time Berger saw him it was Spring, and he was certain that he was having a flashback.
Only because tonally the canons are VERY different.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
To the best of my knowledge, no?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! A few of my Hair fic were translated, and I think one or two others, but I'm blanking on which.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Twice, both of which are unfinished and one of which was not published. One was from way back in my Sailor Moon days in college and was written with one of my college roommates. It's still up on my website, if you go look. ;D The other is a Guardian fic that I was co-writing with @elenothar, but we've both kind of wandered out of Guardian fandom for now. I have hopes that someday we'll come back to it because I really like the idea, still, but only time will tell. ^_^
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I honestly don't think I could pick a favorite. O_o;;; Especially as almost every single ship I've loved has been one I've eventually grown tired of. My current favorite is definitely Di Feisheng/Li Lianhua, but I don't think I have an all-time favorite.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
...................TNTC. But I never say never on a WiP, so who knows? ^_^
16. What are your writing strengths?
I've been told that I'm good at getting character voices down in narratives? Like, that when I write a character it sounds like them? I hope that's true. ^_^
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action/fight scenes. OTZ I've been working at them, but they're still hard for me.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
It was ALL THE RAGE in anime fandom when I came up through it like... 25 years ago. Fanon Japanese was EVERYWHERE. And then it became very cringe to do that. Now... I don't know. There are some words/concepts that REALLY don't translate without a full author's note. And there are modes of address that don't translate and thus I prefer to see in their original language. But full dialogue in another language without a translation available can be an accessibility issue? So if you're going to do it, I think a translation should be provided somewhere, like in hover notes or a glossary or a parenthetical or something? IDK. I still don't really have a clear opinion on it, tbh.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The first fandom I wrote for that I KNEW I was writing for was Sailor Moon. But I was making up stories for characters in shows I loved (and often acting them out, either alone or with friends) since I was VERY young. If that counts, then it was probably Smurfs? XD
20. Favorite fic you've written?
I was going to say I don't know, but I just realized I DO know.
It's Composite Events, hands down. ^_^
It's almost 60,000 words worth of DMBJ x Dollhouse fusion fic and to this day is one of the only fic that I had mostly outlined before I wrote it, even though I VASTLY underestimated how many words it would take to write. XD Please heed the tags on that one if you're going to go down that road, though. It's fairly dark and consent issues are a running thread throughout.
Once upon a time, Wu Xie fell in love with a man who wasn’t real. The man who wasn’t real loved Wu Xie in return, and in so doing, became just as real as he was. But being real comes with dangers of its own, and those dangers could destroy everything they both hold dear.
Special mentions go to:
Muet, Les Miserables, modern AU -- this is definitely another 'heed the tags' situation... for pretty much the same reasons. XD
In a world where the government controls even thoughts, free speech is a luxury few can afford. Les Amis de l'ABC believe it should not be a luxury so much as a right, and those in power will do whatever they must – will destroy whoever they must – to silence them for good. When Enjolras is the one to fall prey to their machinations, Les Amis are left reeling and without a leader. R couldn’t care less about that. He just wants his partner back.
Legacies Lost, The Untamed, canon divergence AU
Sixteen years ago, the Yiling Patriarch died, a victim to his own hubris and the Yin Tiger Seal. Hundreds of cultivators from many different sects died with him that day, their souls forever doomed to find no rest, even in death. On this, the 16th anniversary of the battle of Qiongqi Pass, Jin Ling is determined to make pilgrimage, to try to put the spirit of his long-lost father to rest. He finds much more than he bargained for, and what he finds… will change everything.
Lightning in a Bottle, Mysterious Lotus Casebook, pre-canon
You’re 15 years old and you hear his name for the first time. He defeated the demon of the Blood Realm, they say. A prodigy. The fastest sword in the jianghu. The promise of your generation fulfilled. A hero. You have no use for heroes.
When Is a Curse Not a Curse? When It Becomes a Gift.; The Lost Tomb Reboot, post-canon
...and I'm sure I'll think of a million others that I should have mentioned, too, as soon as I post this. OTZ
It started, for once, with Wu Xie being just a hair faster to react than anyone else.Wu Xie had seen Xiaoge across the room, eyes wide, breath catching, pulling his fingers from the delicate door mechanism they’d been exploring, gathering himself to run, to intercede, to take on the consequences of Wu Xie’s actions, like he always did…  Maybe it was the lingering effects of the golden water.  Maybe it was pure dumb luck.  Whatever it was, Wu Xie beat Xiaoge to it, blocking everyone else from the puff of some ancient dust trap which then hit him full in the face.Dimly, somewhere beyond his struggling lungs, Wu Xie could hear people calling his name, voices raised in desperation and fear.
Wu Xie has often wondered what goes on in the mind of their Menyouping.  Thanks to an accident in a tomb, he’s about to find out… and get a lot more than he bargained for.

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @staceymcgillicuddy @cyraclove and @bibiche007 thanks guys 💛💛💛
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
32! I can't believe it!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
420,197 which is insane!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Stranger Things, hellcheer specifically
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Long Is the Road Out of Hell (dnd au)
The Interview (college/fake dating au)
Hold Onto Me (vampire au)
Cooking Up Something Sweet (rockstar social media au)
Waiting For This Moment (flower shop/tattoo parlor au)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I try to respond to every single comment! They took the time to give me a comment, why wouldn't I take the time to thank them for it?
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
That's tough, because I always try to give hellcheer a happy ending - they deserve it! But Release My Inner Fantasy, despite being almost purely smut, definitely has the angstiest ending. (although it might be slightly cheating since it is part of an ongoing series, and I do intend to give them an eventual happy ending)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Again, I love to write happy endings! So most of my fics are very happy at the close. But Hooked on a Feeling might be my most sappy-sweet ending. It's definitely one of my more lighthearted fics!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
honestly, no! the hellcheer fandom overall has been very kind to me. the closest I get to hate on fics is people wishing/asking me to do something different than I've already done (i.e. write an alternate ending because they didn't want A or B in it), which can be very discouraging. but I don't get that a lot!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do! However, I had never written actual smut in my life until this year, so I'm still pretty new at it
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not really. The closest I've ever gotten to a crossover is crossover elements loosely integrated in a fic. Devil in the Woods, for example, uses bits and pieces from things like little red riding hood and beauty and the beast while remaining very much its own thing!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of! And I'd very much like to keep it that way
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
i don't think so! but i'd be honored if somebody did
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I haven't, but I have a lovely friend who betas for me on occasion and we bounce ideas back and forth so much it sometimes feels like cowriting ( @slumped-in-the-arms-of-fiction )
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
hellcheer, if you couldn't tell 😉
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I intend to finish every single wip I have going atm (As well as a few on the back burner lol). but sometimes it feels like i'm never going to finish them, especially when i'm on the very last chapters. why does it always work like that???
16. What are your writing strengths?
I feel like i'm pretty good at writing intimate scenes. and by that i mean scenes where not a lot's going on, where a small group of characters (usually two) can be together or have a conversation that doesn't do much for the plot but sheds a lot of light on the characters themselves (both to the readers and within the story between characters)
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm very undisciplined with writing habits, i don't write every day or have certain goals. i struggle to describe people and scenery in a concrete way that is integrative with the story itself.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
find a native speaker and get (and listen to) their feedback. whether it's tenses, phrases, or cultural tendencies, let someone who's actually the expert be the expert.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
hellcheer! unless you count me scribbling in my journal when i was about eight, writing a boxcar children story because i'd heard that they employed ghost writers and i thought "i could do that!" i wrote like half a dozen sentences, convinced i was going to become employed by the boxcar children publisher.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
honestly? probably Devil in the Woods. it's the one i go back to the most when i need a comfort read.
Tagging @slumped-in-the-arms-of-fiction @sloelimbs@ebongawk and anyone else who wants to join!

the quick and the dead - (359)
adored 2 (electric boogaloo) - (339)
5. Do you respond to comments?
good lord i really try, but the best i've been able to do is get to minus [redacted] recently (but no longer, alas, by a considerable amount). but please know that i read every comment in my emails as soon as they come through and think about them always!!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i don't really write angsty endings! i guess out of touch, out of time is melancholy because they know things can't really change so that's as close as i've gotten to a non-happy ending.
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
lost then found and adored!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
i haven't (yet! now you've got me worried ahaha)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
i certainly try haha. in terms of kind, i'm not sure what kinds of smut there are, i tend to just write the same two men boinking and hope for the best.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
no crossovers from me!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i know of! (please let me know if this happens)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
i haven't but would love to!
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
patcap i think! but have also been clown-conversing with my friend about jean valjean/javert because we both read the same amazing fic at the same time haha
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
fucking...all of them. i am determined to finish the quick and the dead so that doesn't count. But i'm worried i may never finish the uni fic i'm writing or three weddings and a divorce party.
16. What are your writing strengths?
hmm i think i am quite good at keeping people in character (as much as they can be in AUs and such like!) and keeping things light/funny even when emotional.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
i know at the moment i am struggling with description of places/things. or i feel like i'm not taking the time to use fun language techniques, similes, metaphors etc and instead am being quite robotic in how i'm getting from A to B.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
i have tried it before but i've only stuck to languages i've studied before so i already had a grounding in them, you know? I fully support including writing dialogue in another language if you want to do it!!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
les mis (the fic has since been deleted)
20. Favourite fic you've written?
I honestly can't choose, which makes me very happy actually, that I'm finding so much to love in all of my fics!
Tagging anyone who sees this and wants to do it!! <3 <3

20 questions writer meme
Tagged by @tehri
Oooh I haven’t talked fic in ages, this is gonna be fun. *cracks knuckles* Thanks for tagging me!
How many works do you have on AO3? 54.
What's your total AO3 word count? 556 587, apparently. Um… That’s a lot more than I thought, hang on I gotta lay down for a sec...
What fandoms do you write for? I’m currently not fic-active in any fandoms, but I used to write for Amnesia The Dark Descent (and occasional other Frictional Games stuff), FFXII, The Hobbit, and I’ve also done some Stardew Valley and Baldur’s Gate 3 stuff (during Early Access, mind, haven’t beaten the full game yet).
What are your top five fics by kudos? The Last Snowfall, And All Paths Will Lead Us Home, Ever After To The End Of His Days, Under Surveillance aaaand Count the Daylight Hours. one of these is not like the others lmao
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Always! Well, unless it’s a single emoji or something, I usually can’t think of a way to reply that. I just like talking with readers and I feel like at least saying ’thank you’ is just polite.
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Oh man this is unfair, this is kind of my fandom niche and it’s hard to pick one. My archive is a gallery of angst, take a pick.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Depends on how you want to rank happiness, but I’d say The Fair Ones. (shockingly, happy endings aren’t only reserved to my OCs)
Do you get hate on fics? Nah.
Do you write smut? If so, what kinds? Oh boy do I ever. Mainly on my original stuff, though, as with most things (shocking). I’m more into romance than erotica, personally, so my stuff tends to be on the softer, more emotional side. They’re in love, your honour. As for what kind, I’m so vanilla it hurts. :’D I tried writing kinkier stuff in the Amnesia fandom but I’ve concluded it’s just not my thing. Learn to know thyself, writer.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Very rarely, I don’t usually enjoy them. The only ones I’m really into are Amnesia/Haunting Ground and Amnesia/Penumbra – I guess the overlap of different horror elements just works for me. Nothing particularly crazy to report in this regard, just the typical "character A is somehow in character B's world, shenanigans ensue" stuff.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? I don’t believe so, but I also haven’t gone looking.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Yeah, someone’s still working on translating Count the Daylight Hours into Russian and I remember someone asking for permission to translate some of my ancient Hobbit fics.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope.
What's your all-time favourite ship? Ships come and go, but I think Kurogane/Fai, Usagi/Seiya and Squall/Rinoa are my most consistent ones that have stood the test of time. (I know, this is completely out of the left field considering I’ve only ever written a thing for one of these ships, but writing and shipping are two separate activities that sometimes overlap)
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Another vampire AU for Amnesia with the working title No Other God. I have so much lore written down and in my head, but unfortunately my interest in fandoms in general evaporated two years ago and it hasn’t shown any signs of coming back to that extent. I'm enjoying my time as a casual fan nowadays, pooping out a random fanart once a year.
What are your writing strengths? I’ve heard many times that I’m good at descriptions and conveying emotions.
What are your writing weaknesses? Dialogue, ugh, especially in any modern setting. I use so much outdated vocab and expressions that I can't use my own speech as a guide since I've gotten regular comments my whole life that I speak weirdly. :'DDD (for context, I was the stereotypical precocious kid who sounded like a grown-up at age seven, okay)
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? If it serves a purpose and you know the language (or have a beta/someone who speaks it available), why not? Either way, people write and publish fic for free, so I don't think it matters - do what you enjoy, that's what fic is for.
First fandom you wrote for? Probably FF7 or Kingdom Hearts? Never published any, mind, this was stuff I scribbled into notebooks way back when.
Favourite fic you've written? Right now I wanna say The Alchemist’s Apprentice, my feverish contribution to the Daniel/Fiona excellency that maybe five people and a footstool ship. I like niche. Niche is good.
Not tagging anyone this time, do it if you want to!

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Tagged by @zeldaelmo @nocturne-side-blog @aegon-targaryen !! Thank you all!!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
59 in total, but only 46 are available to the public 😅 I think I ended up putting some of the ones I wasn't as fond of, or ones that I just didn't feel like updating ever again, to a private collection lol
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
212,020!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
hooboy.
Legend of Zelda, mainly, but also: How to Train Your Dragon, Miraculous, LOTR, 1917, MCU, Narnia, Endeavour, and a few other extremely obscure fandoms hardly anyone else is in XD
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
the faces left behind (LU which I know many people hate but I like it so don't judge lol)
Marinette Has Cookies (Of Course Chat Showed Up) (what an annoying title actually??) (Miraculous)
Just Allergies? (How to Train Your Dragon)
Juli's Tree (Flipped)
The Power of a Hot Drink (Skyward Sword)
wow I am... not good at coming up with fic titles 😂 nowadays I just pick a song lyric from a song that applies and slap it on the title but other than that they're pretty horrible 💀
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Although sometimes if there's really no way to respond to it I just mark it as read.
...also usually it takes me a while to get the motivation to reply. I've been known to take months before answering a comment 😬
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oo hm... I can't decide so instead I shall dump a handful of them
One Last Look - Skyward Sword Zelink, after that scene
Age - Sksw Zelink through the years, with a bittersweet ending
Golden Sands - this is one of the first fics I ever posted (originally posted on Wattpad... oof). but basically it's about the robot Skipper from Skyward Sword, thinking about his past life while broken and unable to move in the present.
Incomprehensible - POV of other hobbits in the Shire, unable to understand why the four Travelers act the way they do, or why eventually their number drops to three.
Regrets - Joandeavour talking about... tough things :(
Please, Ada - Babey™ Legolas wanting to hang with his father and his father does NOT want to hang with him is the happiest way I can describe it
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Take three because I'm indecisive.
Worthy - Edmund Pevensie coming to terms with the fact that he is loved
Spidey - Spideychelle being oblivious. that is all
Rainy Days - TP Zelinkkkkkk
there's definitely more but I think those are probably some of the happiest
8. Do you get hate on fics?
My fics usually have a pretty small reception so I don't think so? The most would be someone saying the plotholes of the fic were killing them which then sent me, a major overthinker, into overdrive, even though it's not that bad XD so no, thankfully, I don't think I've ever gotten any (although anon hate is another thing entirely. LOL)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
nope! don't ever plan to either
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
erm. I don't think I ever have?? I've read one or two before, but I don't believe I have ever actually written one
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so XD
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
again, idt so!!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
nope! It's a dream of mine though, Noct and I have several things planned >>>>>>:)
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
oh boy.
so
this is a tricky question
and
the answer is.
all of them
ok jokes aside I genuinely cannot narrow it down, so I'll list... my top five, I guess.
Zelink, Joandeavour, Spideychelle, Rudy/Liesel, and Hiccstrid
(Hm. Thinking about it Joandeavour is probably my favorite just because it's so heartbreakingly tragic, but Zelink is a very very very close second)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
hah.
Probably this, a fix-it Spideychelle fic that I have a lot written for but idk if I'll ever have the guts to do much else with it
16. What are your writing strengths?
d. description I guess?? I've never been a good judge at what I'm good at XD
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I tend to be a bit Victor Hugo-esque with my sentences, aka I have to control myself so the sentence doesn't stretch on for five paragraphs
and we don't talk about my old fics <3
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I mean? For LOTR I would definitely sprinkle in elvish just for the vibe of it, also because he did so, but I would also provide translations. For real-world...hmm. I think I did throw in three or four German words in The Book Thief fic I posted recently, but again, the author himself did so, and I think so long as you're not adding a full, necessary sentence that the reader is then required to look up in order to understand what's going on, and if you instead just use a curse word or a muttered phrase of annoyance or something in the other language, I think that's fine.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
LOTR, I believe. Hand-written in seventh or eighth grade XD
(And then I wrote dozens of unfinished Loz fics in the notes app on my mom's ancient phone she didn't use anymore, fics that completely misunderstood any of the games because I hadn't played them yet. It pains me to think about those fics).
(also this is not counting those "add on to the end of the story!" assignments teachers used to give out in middle school)
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
oh hot dang lemme see
againnnn we are doing several (look my decision making has been ATROCIOUS lately, I cannot be faulted <3)
you feel like home - SkSw Zelink, a teeny tiny bit of angst but mostly fluff (also Link nearly throws hands with Scrapper which is a bonus. When I tell you I cranked that fic out in a day after getting so salty with Scrapper I nearly snapped my wiimote in half)
would I run off the world someday - a very recent TP Zinc fic!! It has traces of Midlink; essentially, it's about Link refusing to stop grieving Midna, and thus hurting himself and Zelda, who is in love with him due to having shared a soul with Midna. It's basically a 4+1 fic and does end happy with the promise of future Zelink, very different from my normal Zelink stuff though
annnd...
Forbidden - Zinc week fic that didn't get as much attention as my other two ZW fics, but I actually really really love it so. <3 I just. idk I love the prose of that fic, I suppose :) and the ending hehe
I do have a few other favorites but I think it's unfair to include them because they're unfinished lol

Fic Writer 20 Questions
(Open) tagged by @kcrabb88 lol but I wanted to do it :)
How many works do you have on ao3? 51! (+7 on my secret alt)
What's your ao3 word count? 258,302 + 67,544 -
What fandoms do you write for? currently, it's just star wars, but I've written for criminal minds before and have some unposted marvel wips -
What are your top five fics by kudos? 1. Oathbreaking -Qui-Gon repudiates Obi-Wan and breaks their bond during the Phantom Menace Council scene and this has repercussions 2. Underestimation -The BAU team takes a case that reminds Reid uncomfortably of his childhood. Rossi finds him when he can't take it anymore 3. See My Dreams All Die -Obi-Wan kills Anakin on Mustafar and is severely wounded doing so. Palpatine is in need of a new apprentice, and Obi-Wan is so conveniently right there 4. 'Til the Sun Goes Down -Take Revenge of the Sith, but it's Obi-Wan instead of Mace who confronts Palpatine 5. Acquainted with the Night -(Unfinished) Reid is kidnapped on a case and the team races to find him (oh god, I can't believe my fifteen year old self's fics make this list) -
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I want to. desperately. it just takes a lot of time and social energy I don't have so I get behind and then I get overwhelmed. I've got 84 unanswered in my inbox currently, some of them months old :( -
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? it's a toss up between Nothing Gold Can Stay (rip Cody) and The Toll of the Bell (rip the Jedi) -
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? The one I just wrote for @ashinaburrito - Happily Ever After (quinobi ftw) -
Do you get hate on fics? I've gotten one or two comments that... disagree very strongly with certain decisions I've made in my fics but no outright flaming. I just delete them -
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yes. and the kind you'll only know about if you reach level 20 friendship -
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? not really anymore? I did in my criminal minds phase. I had one years ago that never really got off the ground that was criminal minds/doctor who/x-men which doesn't sound that crazy, but I would think it was a fever dream if I didn't have the document -
Have you ever had a fic stolen? not that I'm aware -
Have you ever had a fic translated? no :') -
Have you ever cowritten a fic before? I have a wip buried in the backrooms that I was writing with @charrhylis. poke, poke, I mean, if you still want to... -
What's your all time favorite ship? all time??? codywan... but winterhawk is a close second -
What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will? all of them lmao. I never know when a fic's going to make it to the finish line or not, but if I had to choose one... my The Will of the Force series. it is. such an ambitious project and I have so many other wips going on so I don't think it will ever happen but I stare at it wistfully sometimes -
What are your writing strengths? I have been told I write good dialogue which is funny because dialogue is hell and if I never had to write it again I would be the happiest person ever. unfortunately, it is difficult to write a story without it (believe me, I've tried. I actually succeeded once) -
What are your writing weaknesses? commas............. jk I'm mostly okay at them. my biggest weakness is my need to make everything perfect on the first go around instead of just getting shit on the page and so I agonize over word choice for hours and wind up with stilted sentences. takes ages to get anything done. -
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? if it counts as another language, I've written dialogue in dai bendu (Jedi conlang) before. I love it, languages are awesome. and with ao3 you can do hovertext so your readers don't get lost, which is cool. -
First fandom you wrote for? star wars! a wip graveyard fic. but then I moved on to criminal minds, and the first posted was from there -
Favorite fic you've ever written? oh geez uhhhhhh. this is hard because I like my fics for different reasons but... right now, I think it's Soldier, Poet, King just because it's such a good character study and I think it's beautiful. Hits all the right notes trope-wise too.

20 questions for fic writers!
Thank you @septemberskye for tagging me <3
I'll tag @nijinskys @viole-n-ts @brotherhoodoftheblade and anyone who would like to do this.
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 98! (The same formatting thing happened to me too lmao) I can't believe it's almost 100. It's especially fun because it's Yuletide season and the fic authors won't get revealed until January. Which means it will probably be impossible to tell exactly which one counts as my 100th fic and somehow I like that.
2. What's your total AO3 word count? For a second I thought I would have to add it up manually. Phew. It's 457,682.
3. What fandoms do you write for? The Fetch Phillips Archives, The Dresden Files, and the Lord John Series (Outlander). Sometimes a fic here and there for other fandoms.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? the hero's prize, A bed and a penny, whatever this may be, over the edge and out of sight, Love your enemy The popularity of a fandom or a ship + the age of the fic will always have a bigger impact on your statistics than the quality of your writing. Don't swear it too much.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, almost always. I found many friends this way.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably "so cold". A short ficlet but it hurt lol
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?  I usually write happy endings so I can't choose ^^"
8. Do you get hate on fics? Luckily I wouldn't say I do. I've gotten some annoying grammar corrections, and deliberate misunderstandings about a ship, but nothing I would call outright hate in the comments. Oh, and there was that one guy who got their panties in a twist because I've written a male character as a witch. That was fun.
The silver lining in writing for small fandoms, rarepairs, and niche topics is that you don't get many eyes on you so you just statistically catch fewer dumbasses. But if you are getting hate, just remember: don't feed the troll. Eat the troll ;)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes, I write all kinds of smut. Usually, my kind of smut is: - There is extensive set-up. I like to set the mood first, so unless it's a very short fic, there isn't any smut in the first 30% I would say. Even if I consider it a PWP there is usually some kind of set-up. - There are usually feelings involved. I like to focus on that, even if it's just a hook-up. - It's usually kinky. Not always, but I do write a lot of ships with inherent power dynamics or morally grey characters. And I'm happy to go all out there with the kinkyness lol
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? No. It's not my thing. But never say never because I actually have one idea for a fun little crossover...
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? OMG yes! Three of my ficlets from the Harry/Nic OTP challenge got translated to Russian and I'm so honored <3
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?  No... that idea gives me anxiety....
14. What's your all-time favorite ship? I can't answer this either. There are just too many ships that are too close to my heart. Especially since there are several rarepairs where I published either the first or most of the fics on AO3 for that ship... I simply can't choose.
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have one unfinished WIP on AO3, "over the edge and out of sight" which I know I will never continue (but I don't even want to so I don't think it counts as an answer). After that, I've stopped putting WIPs on AO3 in general ^^" From my WIP folder, there are several that I would love to finish, but I don't think I will: - I started a translation of my super old BJR/OC (Outlander) fic but I had a really hard time getting over the embarrassment of reading my old fic - I have a few snippets of a continuation for the J/J/J series (Outlander) and it would be very fun but I'm not sure if I'll ever be in the mood to finish it - I also started a modern Enjou/Aether fic (Genshin Impact) that would be super cute but it's probably too much work compared to my investment in that fandom
16. What are your writing strengths? POV. I think I'm good at showing the POV character's personality. And I sink my teeth into that deep POV and don't let go. You won't catch me slipping into a different POV in the next paragraph, and I'm sort of proud of that.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Plot? lmao It's complicated for me. I can't come up with an intricate plot before I start writing. I need to start writing and then halfway through move the puzzle pieces around. It's difficult for me to wrap my head around it. I also think that sometimes I get so focused on setting something up that I don't realize that the reader might think I'm setting something else up if that makes sense. That's definitely an area I could improve on.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I don't like it. I'm fluent in 3 languages and I've written fic in 2. But I don't like writing or reading dialogue in another language in a fic because I think it disrupts the flow of reading. For me, it's less about the fear of making a mistake in a language that isn't my native tongue (because this one isn't, for example, lol) and it's more about worrying that it won't be enjoyable for someone who doesn't speak that language. Even if you provide translations it's just a lot of effort to scroll back and forth.
A word here and there is fine for me, or if you can cleverly convey language barriers by adding a few sentences. But otherwise, I would just rather write what language they are supposed to be speaking in.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Uh I think HP, back in high school. But that just shows my age lol
20. Favorite fic you've ever written? That is so difficult to answer. It's either "put my heart in your pocket" or "moral compass for hire".

[20 Question Fic Writer Tag]
tagged by @johaerys-writes hehe ❤️
How many works do you have on AO3? 35!
What is your AO3 word count? 321,184 (that's nearly a book)
What fandoms do you write for? Right now, primarily for Patrochilles (TSOA/Hades game/classic lit), but I've also written for a bandom I'm in :)
What are your top five fics by kudos? Chronos, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, I Can't Believe I've Met You, I'm So Blessed You're Mine, and A Welcome Threatening Stir!
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yesss absolutely! I try to respond to every comment, even if it's from an older fic. I love hearing what people have to say, and seeing that they enjoyed the story is what makes me keep writing haha
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? This is easy because I don't think I've ever written something angstier than I Know I Always Said That I Could Never Hurt You, it's the only fic I've ever tagged "hurt no comfort"
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Another easy one, Chronos!! I was only too happy to give them everything they deserved and more by the end of this fic, they'd been through too much haha
Do you get hate on fics? I don't think I've ever gotten *true* hate, mostly just people yelling at me because I've made Achilles suffer haha but I like strong emotions, it means i'm going my job correctly!
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes, always. It's mostly pretty vanilla stuff, but I experimented with writing some kinkier stuff with Cuffed.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I've never written one!
Have you ever had a fic stolen? No, but there was one time where someone posted my fics on a different website without permission. They gave me credit, but I believe the site was taken down or at least the fics were deleted (some kind of bootleg ao3??)
Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! I've had a fic translated into Spanish, and I've been asked if someone could translate different fics into Russian and another language :)
Have you ever cowritten a fic before? Yes, I haven't in a long time but I had a really fun time cowriting! I wrote the Rocket Man series with an incredible author :) It's fun to bounce ideas off another person and see how your writing styles merge and evolve together!
What's your all-time favourite ship? Favorite ship to write about is definitely Patrochilles, but I've been reading a ton of Firstprince lately, they're like a comfort ship for me haha
What's a WIP you'd like to finish but doubt you ever will? I started writing a cowboy au back when I finished school, wrote a couple thousand words for it and then just dropped it. I want to finish it though!!! I just don't know when I'll get to it, and I don't live in the country anymore so I don't have a lot of inspiration lol
What are your writing strengths? Probably writing intense emotions, and having my characters go through some truly distressing moments. I'm a cancer so I like to pride myself on being in touch with my emotions lol
What are your writing weaknesses? Description, and the fact that I struggle with getting a story started. Part of me always wants to pull an Ernest hemingway and just describe the scenery for a couple hundred words before I do anything, and I don't know what to do to fix that lol
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I like adding it if I'm comfortable with the other language or have a person who speaks the language to consult with. I think it's great when you want to emphasize the place/culture the characters come from, but when the translations aren't right there it can become a little tedious lol
First fandom you wrote for? Bandom fics, I don't want to say it but it literally might be McLennon 🥲
Favourite fic you've ever written? Honestly... This is tough. Because Chronos is definitely my most popular fic and I'm very proud of it. But there's also a few that I had so much fun writing, like This Side of Paradise, that almost felt inspired when I was writing it. That one is definitely the most sickeningly romantic fic I've ever written, another I'm very proud of. I also actually really love I Know I Always Said That I Could Never Hurt You, because I was able to incorporate a lot of actual text from the Iliad into it, and I think I did a really good job!!
This was so fun!!!!! Thank you Jo ❤️

Tagged by @batrachised. Thank you!
1-How many works do you have on AO3?
102. We will not discuss the number of fics posted on the ff.net account I maintained in high school.
2-What's your total AO3 word count?
298,956. Lower than I would have expected, actually. My longfic days were primarily, again, in high school, so on AO3 it's mostly shorter one-shots.
3-What fandoms do you write for?
Currently on a Blue Castle kick. Previously my main fandom was Les Mis, mostly bookverse, and prior to that I spent a decade or so as a Harry Potter girl. I have dabbled in other things, but none of them deeply enough for me to consider them actual fandoms that I am in.
4-What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
In the darkest time of year -- Hadestown, post-canon. I believe this is also the fic with the most notes on tumblr.
The Black Sheep and the Mad Muggleborn: a love story -- HP, post-canon. I really liked writing this one and, like all my HP work, now have deeply conflicted feelings about it.
And I could be enough -- Power Rangers 2017, character study. I only wrote 2 fics for this movie and I adore them both so much.
Stormforged -- ASOIAF, alternate ending. This was written for Femslash February and represents the sum total amount of time I have spent thinking about ASOIAF since reading the first four books in a week during standardized testing week back in high school.
We rose with voices ringing -- HP, alternate post-canon. Can you tell I default to song lyric titles a lot and also enjoy musicals?
5-Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I am trying to be better about this! For a long time I didn't because I hated everything I wrote the moment I published it and the only way I could publish at all was to throw a fic out the door and never think of it again.
6-What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
You know, I'm not sure. I haven't done full on angst in a long time. Probably either Waiting for sunrise (LM) or With nothing to remember (also LM). Honorable mention goes to Real in its consequences (still LM) which exists solely to take a ridiculous premise seriously.
7-What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
It's new and still my beautiful child, so this one goes to Ties That Bind, Bonds That Strengthen (TBC).
Oh! Honorable mention to The title of citizen (LM Animates-verse). It's... it just has to be read to be understood, tbh.
8-Do you get hate on fics?
Not since the old aforementioned high school era ffn account, where I once got flamed for writing het. Ah, the good old days. (It wasn't even endgame het, lol.)
9-Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Nope. I've played with some fade to black and a couple, like, sensuous bed scenes, but I find it boring to read so I don't write it.
10-Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I have come to love crossovers, honestly. I like putting characters into Situations. Can't think of any particularly crazy ones though.
11-Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I've ever found or been told about, although realistically with how much I've written and how long I've been doing it I'm sure there are some out there.
12-Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, but I can't off the top of my head remember which ones, unfortunately.
13-Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
No. I am a dreadful co-writer. I will, however, build a world with you at the drop of a hat. Shout out to @steelplatedhearts for the PoTC mermaid worldbuilding we did years and years ago that I still think about fondly.
14-What's your all-time favourite ship?
It varies. Right now unfortunately it's the two leads from the Forbidden Hugs story, which is unfinished original fiction. Fandom wise, I still like me some Logic and Philosophy.
15-What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Anything started earlier than this year, unfortunately.
16-What are your writing strengths?
I like to think I have gotten decent at having an entertaining narrative voice without it being too distracting.
17-What are your writing weaknesses?
Plot? What plot? Plot is when people sit in rooms and have conversations about their feelings, right? What do you mean Events must occur? I'm calling my manager, this doesn't sound right at all.
18-Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Mostly feels needlessly pretentious, honestly. I don't know if I've ever really even considered it.
19-First fandom you wrote for?
HP, starting at age, oh, 14 or so.
20-Favorite fic you've ever written?
Again, Ties That Bind is still my beloved child, but I have a huge soft spot for both Power Rangers (2017) fics. Oh, and underdog fav status to Never go anywhere, never see anyone, the nichest of niche crossovers where Mary Bolkonskaya befriends doesn't-even-get-a-canonical-first-name Aunt Gillenormand.

Thanks @lord-aldhelm for the tag 💜
How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 25 currently on AO3, plus a lot of one shots that are only on tumblr.
2. What's your total AO3 wordcount?
600,065 which is kind of crazy, especially when you take into account that's not even everything I've written (as some are only on tumblr).
3. What fandoms do you write for?
The Last Kingdom exclusively.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Touched by Fire
Walk Through Fire
my hand was the one you reached for
Duty, Love, Betrayal
you'll never have to be alone
5. Do you respond to comments?
OF COURSE! I love comments. However small or long, however thoughtful or incoherent. Through comments I have found so many friends and I love when we scream over our fics and our plans to torture our OCs together 💜
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
In terms of one shots, what I lost in you I will not replace is just pure angst start to finish. Out of my longer fics, Fire Turns to Ash probably ends the angstiest - at least until I finish my hand was the one you reached for 👀
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Touched by Fire and Walk Through Fire both end with my OC and Finan happy with their kids.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Absolutely none. I've found the TLK fandom to be very welcoming and supportive.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I do. All my (completed) multi-chapters have at least some smut in them and I have a fair number of one shots too. It's definitely something I have gotten more comfortable writing and I no longer get intense anxiety when I press post (only slight anxiety now lmao). I've always loved writing smut with feelings and focusing on the emotions of the scene, however I have written a few peices of pwp too, although my smut is never super long or detailed.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I do love a crossover. The Blind Monk is a TLK crossover with the Marvel Netflix show Daredevil - I think that counts as being pretty crazy.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Again, not that I'm aware of.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Yes! Me and @morosemagick wrote our Bridgerton AU The Irishman Who Loved Me together. I really want to work on this fic again and try and finish it as we had such great ideas for it. Writing with someone is definitely a great experience although giving up complete creative control takes some getting used to.
14. What's your all time favourite ship?
I tend to write Finan x OC fics the most, but the one ship I have written quite a bit for is Finan x Ingrith. I also love Aethelflaed x Aldhelm and I hope to write something for them one day. Outside TLK I love Mulder and Scully in the X-Files, Monica and Chandler in Friends, Merlin and Arthur in BBC Merlin, and Buffy and Spike in BtVS.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Honestly all of them at this point 😭 I have really gotten out of the habit of writing and have been struggling with motivation. I want to try and finish all my fics eventually.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I feel my OCs are one of my greatest strengths, I think I create believable characters and people have said that I have created a whole world that they've become invested in - which is such a huge compliment. I also think dialogue is a strength as I find that easiest to write.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Description. I often have to force myself to describe the scene - I'd much rather stick to action and dialogue. I respect people who write really poetic beautiful descriptions as I can't even use a simile or metaphor to save my life lmao.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think it depends how it is used. I personally don't write dialogue in another langauge in my fics (except Finan's term of endearment 'mo ghra') but that's just personal preference.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The Last Kingdom. It was almost three years ago since I first watched the show and became obssessed. TLK was also the first fandom I read fanfic for as well.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
I think my whole OC x Finan series fire in her eyes just because of all the OCs I created and developed. I think Duty, Love, Betrayal is the individual fic I am most proud of.

Holy Feathers, Phantom!
Summary: Danny gets wings and the town becomes a lot more culty than usual. Somehow, this becomes the GIW's problem.
based on @seaglass-skies' prompt "Danny's gotten into a mess he knows his friends and family can't get him out of. He doesn't think he'll be rescued at all, but he ESPECIALLY doesn't expect it to be the Guys in White who rescue him." and @kiinotasha's prompt "Wing AU: It started with an itch that never seemed to go away. ( He can have them in both forms or just one )"
edit: forgot to add another note that this was also inspired by @impyssadobsessions' fanatastic wing au danny art

Hey, you guys know the headcanon that Jason still has an autopsy scar?

Petition for Peace
Because @hyperionknight is slaying me with our verse so naturally I had to write a fic.
Newly married, Marie Almasy pays a visit to an old friend turned foe in an attempt to bring peace between the Families as she finds her footing as head of the Dufresne Clan. {wordcount: 2,014}
When Marie was admitted into the office of Nile Dawk, the man in question did not hide his surprise. He also didn’t stand to greet her, surprise quickly flipping to suspicion. He hadn’t seen her in six or so years, at least not long enough to hold a conversation with her and though what he had heard had only ever been through the grapevine of the great Families that ran their city, the Dawks, like so many others before them, had learned firsthand not to trust a Dufresne.
Marie looked around the office, scowling at the two armed men who stood behind her, and gestured in the air with an annoyed flourish.
“Is this really necessary, Mr. Dawk?” she wondered aloud, shifting her purse on her shoulder and indicating the little baby bump she sported, “Somehow I don’t see myself as much of a threat.”
“Miss Dufresne—“
“It’s Mrs. Almasy now, actually,” she corrected him, standing as tall as all five feet of her could.
Now that did intrigue Nile Dawk who was very analytical and took note of all which he knew, so with a small wave, he dismissed the bodyguards.
“Your father’s man.” he said once they were alone.
Marie grinned, a cheeky expression that shone through her eyes. “My father’s man,” she confirmed.
“And your father is dead now. Are the two events related?”
“They are,” she told him, cheeks beaming, “if you must know. They are very much related.”
Nile sat back in his chair, unsmiling as he so often was. He was not ready to ask what she wanted from him, but took a moment to observe her. With already two children of his own, he knew well enough that her bump, no matter how modest in size, was not the lucky happening of less than two months of marriage.
He was also no stranger to her career, having been a patron of hers many moons ago, when he was just a boy, pressured into manhood by his father. After so many years, he doubted this baby had anything to do with that end of the Dufresne family business, or that Arthur Dufresne had allowed his right hand goon to enjoy the pleasures of his most profitable merchandise.
“You seem. . . surprised.”
Nile cleared his throat, sitting forward a bit and giving a slight lift to one of his shoulders.
“I had always been under the impression that you were resigned to your position.”
He thought she was weak.
Marie’s smile faltered a bit and she moved to speak, but bit the words back, unsure how to phrase them. She was here on business. How much did he expect her to confess to him? It’s not as if they were friends, not quite anyway.
“Love makes people do crazy things,” she settled on, turning up her palms, “like kill their fathers.”
Nile supposed he couldn’t argue with that. He also didn’t disagree with the choice to wipe Arthur Dufresne from the face of the Earth. His personal vendetta and the man’s political toxicity aside, the way he whored out his daughter for personal gain—and at such a young age—had never quite sat well with Nile. Not, of course, that he had done anything about it, but knowing she was married and free from it all was satisfying to him.
“The two most loyal soldiers, turned traitors,” he mused, “Dufresne fidelity strikes again.”
Marie bristled at that. “I invite you do endure what I did and remain obedient until the end of your days.”
But Nile simply waved that away, regretting the dig he had felt to put in, so accustomed to looking down on her family.
“So your father is dead,” he repeated, redirecting the conversation, “and Mr. Almasy heads your family now. He sends you to do business with me. Why?”
“No,” Marie told him, shaking her head, thick blonde curls rustling as she did so. “Mrs. Almasy heads the family now and she comes of her own accord to offer peace, and to ask for your help.”
“. . .peace.”
The air in the room became thick at that, the words he hadn’t spoken resonating in her ears. She knew how unlikely her success would be today. After all, if not for her father’s betrayal, his would not be dead.
“I am not my father,” she whispered, “as you are not yours.”
Nile inhaled deeply, his chest puffing in a way that displayed not authority, but anxiety. He didn’t know how to deal with this woman.
“You and I were never at odds,” she added, a bit of hopefulness in her voice, “and we do share an intimate past so—“
“We were eighteen,” he interrupted, “don’t try to appeal to my emotions, because as far as you’re concerned, there weren’t any. You were bought for me.”
Marie could not hide the sting of his words and tears gathered at her lash line. Yes, it was true, they had been only eighteen and yes, she had been purchases for a six week ‘education’ to ready him for manhood, but sex aside, they’d gotten on so well and he had been the only person up until Seifer, who ever truly believed she was still a person. But he was grown now, with a family of his own, and with the pride of his father, something as distasteful as a prostitute would not be spoken of in these walls.
“Yes,” she conceded, “still, there was never animosity between us.”
He didn’t disagree, but neither did he do her the honor of admitting she was right, so instead, he drew the attention to her second request.
“What do you want from me, this help you seek. You murder your father and in the same breath marry his most trusted man. Why should I trust or help either of you.”
With a small motion with her index fingers, Marie put a pause on his deduction of events.
“We were married before,” she told him, “and it was actually Seifer who killed him. I just watched. Quite happily. He didn’t want me to, of course, but I thought it might be fitting. I had to thank him, you know? I mean without him I would have never even met Seifer even though, you know, he was essentially my babysitter because—“
“Mrs. Almasy.”
Oh. Right. She’d been rambling. With a deep breath, she refocused. She was a professional woman now, a new sort of professional, and this time she would have to get what she wanted without the use of her tits.
“I’m coming to you first because I think you’ll be most likely to understand why. You have a wife, and two daughters—“
“I am not discussing my family with you, Miss—Mrs. Almasy.”
She cleared her throat a bit, ignoring this, “and you love them dearly, don’t you?”
If it were possible, Nile’s frown grew deeper, and more stern.
“Don’t you?”
“If this is a threat,” he said lowly, “pregnant or not I will end you.”
“No,” she sighed, “it is not a threat, Mr. Dawk. It’s a question, but I already know the answer. Everyone does. There is nothing you value more than your family, the women in your life, and that is why I came to you.”
“Then what do you want?”
With a breath for courage, Marie Almasy pressed her fingertips together.
“I want to put an end to sex trafficking.”
Silence once again filled the room but this time it was no filled with tension or impatience. Instead, Nile simply waited for her to elaborate.
“I do not intend to hold public office. I have no mind for politics and my husband works best in a physical manner if you understand this. Still, I understand that as leader of one of the Families of this city, a public face is required. I intend for mine to be philanthropy, by saving the lives, or—or the quality of life of innocent girls and women. I know I can’t end it completely, but I can help.”
This was not what he had expected and he folded his hands together on the desk, now giving her the attention and the respect he hadn’t realized she deserved.
“What does this have to do with me?”
Marie gave him a soft smile. “Because you know firsthand that these girls are not always poor or foreign.”
So she was choosing to use their time together to her advantage.
She wasn’t wrong. He did agree with this pursuit.
“I already have many many contacts in this area, as you can imagine,” she continued, “but I don’t know everyone and my people don’t either. I’m asking that, for a fee to be discussed, that you hand over, to me, any persons involved with the illegal trafficking of women, girls, or boys for that matter, for the sex trade. A name, a location, or a physical body. I’ll take any of these.”
She paused, giving him a once over before adding, “your price can of course be scaled to the weight of what is delivered to me.”
“This is practically a declaration of war.”
“Have you already forgotten who it is that I married? War does not frighten me.”
Though her confidence bordered on arrogance, or perhaps it was only naivety, Nile could not deny that her cause was a noble one, as moot as the concept of nobility was among the criminal, and for the sake of his wife and daughters, he was inclined to agree.
“And if I decline your request? What then?”
Marie gave him a small, half shrug, “It will be more difficult for me, but. . .I won’t do anything to you or your family. I said I wasn’t my father and I meant it.”
And he believed her.
He had once, after no romance had come of their six week affair, thought her to be a conniving, selfish sort of woman, but he supposed that, without knowing her entirely, the persona he was given was all he had to go on, and the persona she used professionally was all she gave to those she did not hold dear.
But now he saw she was not as self centered as she had projected in the past and that, newlywed and with child, both which she had fought and risked everything for, she cared deeply for others now that she had the freedom to do so. Even so, Nile Dawk was not an impulsive man and could not acquiesce to her so soon.
“I will have to think on it,” he said truthfully, “there are risks involved for my family as well. If they are in any way endangered I will not help you.”
“I understand,” she agreed, “I appreciate even the consideration nonetheless.”
He nodded and she returned the gesture, allowing the doors to be opened for her departure. Today had not been a complete failure.
“Marie.”
Turning slightly on her red, four inch heels, she looked back at the young, but weathered man at the desk, questions written on her face at his use of her first name, and for the first time since they’d parted as teenagers, he offered her a smile.
“Congratulations,” he said, “on your freedom, and your new family.”
Returning the expression, she placed a hand on the brass handle of the study door.
“Thank you,” she said earnestly, “Nile.”
