Barcelona GP - Pedri Gonzalez
Pedri Gonzales x reader
Warnings: ansgt, jealous!Pedri, brother!Carlos Sainz, bestfriend! Charles Leclerc, mentions of some other drivers, google translated Spanish, I hope that’s all
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Carlito!!!"
"Stop calling me that hermanita. I have a reputation around here" Carlos said. "Who's that fella over there?" He asked. "Pedri, come here" you said, seeing that he was a bit lost. "Carlos, this is my boyfriend, Pedro and Pedro, he's my annoying older brother Carlos" you made the introduction and the boys shook their hands. "Good to finally meet you. Y/N won't shut up about you" Carlos smiled. They engaged in a conversation, more like interrogatory, so you made your way over to the other Ferrari driver.
"Lord Perceval, lovely to see you again" you bowed. "My lady" he laughed, placing a kiss on your hand. The gesture made Pedri's blood boil, but he kept cool. "Y/N!" "Lando! Good to see you again" you said, hugging the British boy. "I hope you're good. Both of you, with the rough start and everything" you said. "I've been better..." Lando sighed. "I know. I really hope you get P10 tomorrow" you said sympathetically. "Thanks Y/N. Is always great to meet you before a race" Lando said and went to the McLaren garage. "So... you and Barcelona's golden boy. Who would've thought?" Charles teased. "Yeah... well it happened" you blushed, looking over to the two most important men in your life. "I would be dead by now" Charles joked. "Comment ça? (What do you mean?)" You asked. "He's been throwing daggers here all the time" he chuckled. "He's not that jealous" you shrugged. "Mhm here he comes" he said.
"So... ready for some action hermanita?" Carlos asked as Pedri made his presence well known to you by wrapping an arm around your waist. "Always hermanito" you teased. "How do you like it so far?" You asked Pedri as the two drivers were busy checking their cars. "Bueno" he replied. "Seriously Pedri? I know your inner child is screaming" you laughed. "True, but I don't want to make a scene right now" he said. "Ooohh... you want to show my brother you aren't a little boy anymore. I get it" you said, patting his cheek. "It's not—" "Your secret's safe with me, Pepi" you said, kissing his lips softly. "Hey! No PDA around here" Carlos said. "Overprotective brother phase 1" you rolled your eyes.
After the race, you congratulated even more drivers for their poles and Pedri felt like he wanted to punch everyone. You went over to Pierre, Perez and Alonso, but Pedri wanted to meet Verstappen, so you went over the Red Bull Racing pit. Now that little boy was coming out of Pedri, who asked Max for a picture and an autograph too. "cómo estás? (How are you)" Sergio Perez asked. "Bueno. Y tú? (Good. And you)" you replied. "decepcionado (disappointed)" he sighed. "estoy seguro de que puede manejar (I'm sure you can manage)" you tried to encourage him. "No estoy tan seguro. Pole 13 es malo (Im not that sure. P13 is bad)" he explained. "No quiero que Max gane. alguien más es mejor (I don't want Max to win. Anyone else is better)" you said quietly so the Dutch won't hear you. "Veo que no has seguido adelante (I see you haven't moved on)" he smiled knowingly. "Jamás (never)".
"What a day! Verstappen P1. He's going to win this" Pedri said, making his way into the room after he's had his shower. "Yeah wonderful" you said sarcastically. "Don't be grumpy. Carlos got P4 which is good" he said, putting on his pyjamas. "Yeah I guess" you sighed. "Or are you sad that Leclerc got only P11?" He asked. "Are you jealous Pepi?" "Never said I was. But you seem very comfortable around all these guys. Wouldn't be shocked if you fucked them" he shrugged. "Very highly you think of me, Pedro" you snapped. "Just saying. What I saw today. A bit too friendly for my liking" he said. "They're my friends. And Charles is my brother's teammate! Obviously I'm a bit closer to him than to anyone else! You have no right to be jealous" you said, tears threatening to spill. "Whatever" he rolled his eyes.
You left the room quietly while he was still in the bathroom, and made your way down to the pits. You needed some time alone to think.
"What's up, petit papillon? (little butterfly)"
"Charles, sorry. I had a little fight with Pedro and didn't know where to go" you smiled weakly through the tears.
"You never call him that"
"What?"
"Pedro. You call him Pedri, Pepi, Pedrito. I get you're mad at him" he said.
"I am, oui. He's being a jealous ass. Thinks I fucked you all" you said, cringing at your words. How could he think that in the first place?
"If only he knew how Carlos truly is. Je suis surpris that he didn't chop his balls off yet (I am surprised)" Charles joked.
"And even if we were to be...you're not my type of girl, but you're his type" Charles said. "stupide de dire ça (stupid to say that)" you said. "Excuse moi. I'm not Doctor Love, but I see that you really love him" he said. "I do. And I'm also jealous. When girls give him pieces of paper with their numbers or Instagram, whispering in his ear to leave me and fuck with them" you shrugged.
"Disgusting"
"I know. But I try to ignore them and love him for what he is. The man Pedri, not the footballer" you said. "I know. That's why everyone here loves you. Because you saw behind the famous drivers, you saw the people behind them. And you're friends with the actual people, not the drivers. Which means a lot to all of us" he said, hugging you.
"Y/N? Are you here?" Pedri's desperate voice interrupted your hug with Charles. It was enough to look at Charles to know he had a plan. "Hola Pedri. How are you mate?" Charles said, not giving away that you were hiding behind his car. "Not so good. Y/N left after we had a little argument, left her phone in our room and no one has seen her. I'm going insane" he said. "Well, I happen to know where she is, but—" he pointed his finger at Pedri. "You stay where you are, don't move a finger. And she'll come out when she's ready" Charles said, leaving the room.
"Y/N, amor, I'm so sorry... I trust you, I know you won't cheat or anything like that... I just saw you being so friendly with them and just remembered how we met...you weren't like that towards me and I thought what do they have and I don't? I don't know the answer to that... but I know I love you and had no right to be jealous. You go through this almost every day with me and the fans and you're not throwing a tantrum at me. You understand me and I should've done that today too. I'm sorry... I feel so bad" he sobbed. "Oh Pedri, come here" you said, leaving your hiding spot and hugging him. His head fell on your shoulder, letting tears soak your hoodie. "I'm so sorry" he whispered. "It's okay... maybe I should have warned you about me being friends with almost everyone on here. But they are my friends and I get very few chances to see them lately, so it's always good to see them" you said, threading your fingers through his hair. "And with Charles we're just friends. Best friends. Who do you think I told that I was seeing this Spanish football player huh? He was the only one who knew and he told me to go for it. Even if it fails, at least I tried. And look at us. We're together and happy" you said, pulling away to look into his glossy eyes. "And you're special to me, Pedri. I love them as friends, but you're the only one I love like I want to scream of happiness... or the one I want to rip the clothes off" you chuckled. "Eres preciosa (you're precious)" he smiled, pecking your lips softly.
"Now that's what I want to see, hermano" Charles said, leaning on the door. "Spanish looks good on you" you chuckled. "Well, Carlos taught me some" he said, wiggling his eyebrows. "You should go to sleep. You have a big race tomorrow" you said. "I'm sorry for all this" you said. "Don't. I'm happy to help a friend" Charles said, hugging you. "But I'll chop you dick off next time" he said to Pedri. "Got it, sir" he joked, taking your hand in his. "No need to call me that. I'm only 5 years older" Charles laughed. "You're old, grandpa" you said laughing. "I will pretend you didn't say that. Goodnight" Charles replied.
"God I was so worried about you" Pedri said, back in your hotel room. "I mean I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found you. Probably faint" he chuckled, hugging you from behind as you tried to fall asleep. "I love you" he whispered. "I love you too, Pepi".
"Yes! Go Charles! Go Carlito!" You yelled their names as they passed the finish line one after the other. Charles first place, Carlos second and Perez third. "I'm so proud of them" you said. "And where is Verstappen? I can't see him on the podium" you teased Pedri. "He just had a bad race day" he shrugged. "Aham. As you say. Let's go celebrate with them".
"Carlito!!! I'm so proud of you" you said, hugging your brother soaked in champagne. "Don't call me that, hermanita" he whined. "And Charles! I'm so proud of you too. You really deserve this" you said, hugging the Monegasque. "Why aren't you calling him Charlito?" Carlos asked, making you laugh. "I should, shouldn't I? Pedrito, Carlito and Charlito. The three most important men in my life" you said, pulling them into a group hug. "I don't like it" Charles huffed.
"Don't be sad, Charlito" Carlos imitated your voice and they started bickering (playfully).
"You good?" You asked, seeing Pedri was a bit zoned out. "Yeah. Just enjoying the view" he replied. "Which is?". "Mostly you" he smirked. "Come on, we have to celebrate" Carlos said, throwing his arm around Pedri's shoulder and dragging him after him. You and Charles walked behind them. "So everything's good in paradise?" He asked smirking. "Yes. Again, thank you so much" you said. "That's what friends are for, non?". "Of course, Charlito" you giggled. "Hey!".
Hope you like it ❤️

To be honest, I would not fully trust Ola Kallenius either despite his words backing George. Why? Because he's a part of this big multinational corporation and this multinational corporation is FAR from the word 'good'.
But what we're talking about is taking advantage of George being favorable in their eyes for now. Read that 'for now' again. To manipulate the long terms, you need to take advantage of what is happening in short terms first. You can't be thinking too far ahead, overthinking and speculating about things, and making rash decisions over some speculations. That'd be a self-fulfilling prophecy. You can't play the short game when you're in a position like George. You have to play the long game.
If I were to be REAL honest here, I do want George to take Red Bull's offer back in 2021 because they're great, they're fast, they're amazing. But looking at the other aspects here, you wouldn't want him to be there. You should stop seeing things from just a two dimensional perspective. Moving teams solves nothing and i think we learnt enough from several drivers who made the wrong choice due to greed and being impatient.
In every part of an organization, there is something called homeowners. Just like Max's home is RB and Charles' home (might be) is Ferrari, George's home is Mercedes. And that is a solid thing for 2-3 upcoming years unless something happened. Why do i say so? Because these teams aren't the backmarkers where everyone is replaceable, they are the frontrunners with big brands behind them that not only values winning and racing but also values loyalty, brand image, and more. What they're also trying to find is someone who could be the face of the team for a long time not just 2-3 seasons and dip.
And let's take things real here. If Mercedes did NOT value George, they wouldn't pressure him to make a decision between choosing BMW or Mercedes very early in his formula series career. Why is it important? Because if George is not important to them, the moment George rejects Toto for Carlin Volkswagen is the moment they back out and move on. But they didn't. That is exhibit one.
Exhibit two is that in 2018, Mercedes is torn on who to give an F1 seat. Ocon or Russell? We all know the answer in 2019. Exhibit three, in 2020 when George's 2021 seat is threatened with Williams, Red Bull allegedly offered Mercedes to 'lend' George out to them for a year but Mercedes REFUSED because they do not want George outside of their institution even for a year (even if that 'lend out' move benefits Mercedes because from there Mercedes can see how George performs in better car). They'd rather George go jobless and drive in DTM for a year rather than lending him out to Red Bull. If Mercedes does not care about him, they would let him leave just like they let Ocon leave to go to Alpine.
And fourth, we have Kallenius basically on Toto's neck about how he wants George on that seat and not Max or Valtteri or whoever Toto wants. Then we also have Mercedes literally going feral on the mention of George going somewhere else (read: RBR). This happened on the same day as the British GP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My point here is if they do not give a shit, if they do not at the very least back George up, they would have let George go in 2021. And if you're saying "but that's 2021, Ari. We're talking about now", then look at his previous contract renewal. We're supposed to have George's silly season THIS YEAR because his original contract with Merc is supposed to end this year but we DIDN'T! Why? Because the contract is already renewed somewhere in December 2022 or Spring 2023! Again if they're planning to replace him, they would not make him sign a contract just for several months to his Merc career. And to add on top of that, George literally talks about how his contract is so EASILY signed and Mercedes and him were giggling over it like a married couple while LH and Mercedes (read: Kallenius) were in trenches, fighting endless war for a contract negotiation.
We cannot be 100% sure on the long run on who backs who even with Max in Red Bull. There is NOTHING certain in F1. Things change drastically. This is a very dynamic sport. But to manipulate the longer term, you need to take a hold of shorter terms first. If Kallenius, for now, sees George in a favorable place, that's good. But if in the future, he doesn't then it is what it is. It's business. You can't be idealistic about it. Moving teams is NEVER the solution unless you want George to make a decision blunder like other drivers who weren't patient enough.
It is painful but we have to play the long game.

watching the austria post race and seeing lando and pierre being quite friendly w each other, thinking about the better series....
a short better series blurb, following the austria gp - 700 words
you stood off to the side and watched the F1TV post-race interview play out. pierre wasn't originally supposed to join lando but when his pr manager gave him the nod and handed him a mic, it was clear there was a change in plans.
pierre tapped lando on the shoulder, "bonjour."
lando smiled when he recognized it was another driver on the grid who had accompanied him, "bonjour, ça va?"
"Ça va," pierre nodded with a chuckle. they might not have been on the best of terms, but it always brought him joy when the non-french speaking drivers greeted him in his language.
they were friendly throughout the interview, taking turns responding to questions. from where you stood just behind Rosanna, leaning against the motorhome, you had direct line of site to Pierre.
Lando was blocked for the most part by Jolyon, but you could make out his arms crossed over his chest as he listened to pierre, nodding every so often.
he saw you, there was no way he didn't see you. even if he didn't see your face right away, the pink canvas converse. it was the only thing that stood out in your neutral outfit. a dead giveaway who you were here to support.
lando put more weight on his back and leg and subtly turned his head in your direction. it was only for a second, but you caught it. you caught his eyes. you saw the way the corner of his lips turned upwards and not at something pierre said but because you were there.
he was then pulled back into the conversation and lando stumbled over his words slightly. not enough that anyone passing by would notice, nor would the commentators. but you noticed. pierre noticed. pierre was smooth though and brought the mic back up to his lips to take over, to take some of the tension off lando.
"you didn't get a penalty though, did you?" jolyon asked the british driver for confirmation.
"no, no i've been a good boy," lando joked, that familiar cheeky grin returning to his cheeks. why did it make you smile too?
pierre laughed, "for once."
that comment could have been taken to heart. there was some underlying truth to it. a painful yet humorous reminder that lando had in fact, made mistakes in the past. of course, pierre's two cents wasn't in reference to his track performance. no, it was in direct reference to you.
you counted down the seconds until finally pierre put the mic down on the table. he patted lando on the back and his eyes instantly found you, face lighting up as he returned to your side.
"i heard that," you nudged your body against his. "your little for once."
pierre draped his arm over your shoulder, "if there is every an opportunity to remind lando how he messed up, i will take it, cherie."
"it's been months. we're all civil at this point."
but were you?
you still had yet to actually talk to lando face to face. still had yet to say any words to him that were't over his twitch stream over a friendly text here or there to congratulate him on his race results.
you glanced behind you as you walked down the paddock, spotting your old friend as he became surrounded by fans and people who wanted to take a photo or grab an autograph. he entertained them all, of course, that's who he was. but he kept glancing your way in the process.
there it was again. that shy smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. you smiled back, but you weren't even sure if he caught it with how many people were trying to get his attention.
feeling pierre kiss the side of your head, you turned and looked up at him.
"you okay?" pierre asked, feeling the tension in your shoulders
you nodded because you were okay, but that was it. just okay. you had been just okay for a while now. you were happy with pierre, there was no mistaking that but something was missing, something that prevented you from feeling more than okay on a regular basis.
but you didn't want to let yourself think that maybe lando's absence was the reason for it.

“The other thing that takes a lot of time is the girls! There are always a lot of girls at every Grand Prix, but a lot of really young girl fans come to see me in Italy, 12 and 13-year-olds. I prefer older girls who are real fans of me as a racer – not teeny-boppers.” (Italian GP 1998)
“I have to say I don’t like leaving home to go racing at this time of year - there are too many beautiful girls around where I live, and they don’t wear so many clothes during the summer.” (British GP 1998)
Even back in his 125 and 250 days his infectious enthusiasm was breaking the sport to whole new audiences, amongst them the Valenteenyboppers, gangs of Italian schoolgirls drawn to racetracks by their heartthrob's pretty blue eyes. Valentino doesn't appreciate that kind of attention because he's a bit of a biking purist. “They're not fans of Rossi the motorcycle racer, but just because I've got blue eyes, I don't like,” he says with faint exasperation after years spent fleeing these seething ranks of moist, pubescent Latin lovelies. “It's good to have one or two nice girls chasing you, but not one thousand.” That's what he says, but you wonder if he really means it once you've been inside his motorhome, watching him and constant companion Uccio Salucci giggling madly as they field lewd text messages from female admirers.
Mat Oxley: It was Imola ‘97 that I realised he’d become a superstar – his fans covered half the hillside on the pit straight, so he was already more popular than Doohan and Biaggi. You’d go to his motorhome and there’d be 20 teenage girls hanging around outside, even though he had a girlfriend at the time. Uccio: We really enjoyed having so many girls around! Maybe some top riders or superstars worry “Is this girl coming to see me because I’m famous or does she really like me?”, but Valentino didn’t think like that, he always said “I don’t care why she’s coming, I’m just happy that she is coming!”
Of course, with the late nights came the girls, and Valentino was getting through them at a rate. One of the few big-name riders to count himself ‘single’, he had finally copped onto the fact that he’s young, rich and the ladies love him, so, why on earth would he want to go steady just yet? As Italian MotoGP mover and shaker Carlo Pernat says: “I've never seen so many girls around a rider, maybe Barry Sheene or Marco Lucchinelli (500 world champ in 1981) but never so many. Valentino doesn't like to stay with a girl more than two or three months. He still lives like a kid now, with the same friends, the same way of life. After the racing is finished it's impossible to find him, no one knows where he goes, maybe he's in London, maybe he's in a disco with some friends he's known since he was a boy. He never changes, he doesn't want to be famous, he doesn't want a movie star girlfriend, he doesn't want to be in the papers with famous people.”
Valentino excuses himself by insisting that long-term girlfriends don't fit the GP lifestyle. “I brought a girlfriend to the Barcelona race but now is finished,” he said midway through 2003. When you make this life is very difficult to have a girl. If you bring her to a GP maybe she's bored, so I stay alone at races, is better. Then when you stay one week at a racetrack, you come back home and you have some power to use, you need to have fun, go out with friends, go to the disco, but your girlfriend has just stayed one week doing all this kind of stuff, so when I come home, she say ‘can we see a movie?'. So is difficult.”
Q: Did the life of a boyfriend change him? Graziano: I don't think so, he keeps going dancing, but with his girlfriend.
Who would the MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi invite at dinner from the sports world? The Italian answered this question in an interview with Blick. “That's where I would call Roger Federer. We already had this pleasure in Portugal in 2006, but it was a long time ago. I do not know Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on a personal basis, even if I would be interested at those two. Outside the world of sports, I would prefer a beautiful woman! When I was younger, I was loving the actress Angelina Jolie so much. But now she is old, like me (laughter). So I'd pick Scarlett Johansson. Having a nice woman next to me would be better than Roger!”, he said laughing.
“The first ride with the M1 was like going on a date with a new girlfriend: it's more exciting than having ice cream with a new girlfriend than having sex with one you've been dating for years!”

CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG
Tumblr media
Summary: even if it's one of your brother's rivals, you can't walk away from him.
Pairing: george russell x reader
Warnings: none
Word Count: 1140
Tumblr media
You had accompanied your brother Max throughout the 2022 season as you were taking a break from work and studies to reorganize your life. And what better way to do it than accompanying your brother around the world to see him do the job he loved the most. Also, you were a fan of F1, it was in your blood after all. What you didn't have in mind was that you were going to meet a certain Englishman from Mercedes, who was going to become the reason why you were so excited about going to the Paddock. Max was so oblivious that he believed that your enthusiasm was due to the fact that you liked the adrenaline rush of races that you had not seen in a long time. Your brother didn’t suspect anything of your relationship with George. You had met some of the boys at the Paddock and you were friends with most of them, so he considered Russell to be one of them.
Obviously you weren't going to tell him yet that you and the British were more than two formal acquaintances. You had known George the same as the rest of the boys, but since day one, he had caught your attention and clearly the feeling was reciprocated. You started to cheer a little more for the Mercedes driver from the Red Bull garage, and between chats and hangouts as just friends, you didn't realize when you found yourself in love with each other. At first you were reluctant to enter into a relationship with George, but after much insistence and a mutual agreement that you would take the relationship in private until you were ready, you agreed to date with him and let him love you.
But you knew that the day had to come when people found out, including your brother Max. Even though you and George had become adept at slipping back and forth between qualifiers and practices and races, all good things came to an end.
And that finale took place on Sunday of the Brazilian GP.
You were biting your nails ever since the lights went out and the race began.
Despite your cheering for your brother, your inner self jumped as it watched George in first place, keeping up with Lewis and everyone else behind him. You trembled with nerves from time to time, you were already nervous yesterday and screamed silently when George won the sprint, even afterward you sneaked to his hotel room to congratulate him appropriately. You were on edge watching your boyfriend defend tooth and nail what could be his first victory in his F1 career. There were only two laps left and George was still leading. One lap, your eyes watered and you had to swallow a whoop of elation to see your boy cross the checkered flag in first place. You listened to the radio live and noticed his tearful voice thanking his team. You looked around and as sneakily as you could you left the garage to try to sneak into the Mercedes garage to congratulate George when he returned. But your plan deliberately failed when Angela saw you trying to sneak in. You smiled guiltily at her and she just looked at you with a knowing smile.
"Come with me, I'm sure he's going to want to see you before anyone else" she recommended.
"No, I can't do that. Everyone would see me and God knows what would form” you denied despite the desire you had.
"Come on, that's nonsense. Let them say what they want, your boyfriend just won his first race and I'm sure he's going to want to celebrate with you."
Her words made you think. It was true. You wanted to congratulate your boy on his victory. You would have time to deal with everything that would come later, now the protagonist was George. Angela had to understand the conviction on your face because she soon dragged you by the arm to where the Mercedes team was greeting both drivers and celebrating with George. When George saw you arrive in front of the fence, he completely lit up, if he was already happy, now he was elated to see you there waiting for him. He ran up and caught you in his arms tightly, both of us locked in a tight hug. You separated and grabbed his face between your hands to kiss his lips, he kissed you back with the same energy and after a couple of soft peaks you separated. You knew there would be thousands of cameras and photographers recording the moment, but you didn't care as you saw George so emotionally crying after all.
"I'm so proud of you, my love" you spoke first as you wiped the tears from his cheeks.
“Thank you, really thank you for this. I don't know how to thank you for being here” George still didn't assimilate that he had you in his arms in public. No more hiding.
"You don't have to thank me for anything. Now go, you have a prize to receive. Then we can celebrate all you want”
George's smile grew and with another shorter kiss, he followed Lewis to the podium. You watched the entire awards show to him, Lewis and Carlos with such pride in you, when a gentle hand on your shoulder made you look away from George. Turning around, you blanched when you saw your brother Max looking at you with what seemed like a scolding but also a bit of mockery.
"So Russell was the mystery boyfriend you didn't want to tell me about?" You couldn't recognize the tone of his voice.
“Max, I'm so sorry, I swear I was going to tell you but I didn't know what you were going to say and people…” your tirade was cut short by the smile on your brother's face.
“y/n, I'm not mad” this time your brother put both of his hands on your shoulders and shook you gently.
"no?" Your confused face must have been funny.
"Nope. I'm not entirely amused that my little sister has a boyfriend, but Russell is a good guy. But answer me something”
"What?"
"Are you happy with him?" You sighed at Max's question.
"Very happy. He loves me and I love him” Max noticed the truth in your eyes and the love for the British pilot. Happy with the answer, he hugged you. You sighed calmly with your brother agreeing to your relationship.
"But still, Russell better not hurt you, or else I'm going to crash his car into a wall in all the races he has left" you rolled your eyes with a laugh at your brother's words. You knew George wouldn't hurt you, and you hoped you could celebrate more moments with him now that you didn't have to hide.

Vesper/Camille
They were on a train, one of the nice ones that carted tourists around the Mediterranean—light gleamed off of the ocean outside the windows. This was strange, considering that Camille had just been intentionally losing a fight in the Bolivian desert. “Pucha!” she said. “What is with you Brits and your need to shove your noses in everybody’s business?”
She knew the woman sitting across from her with the dark hair and the green cat’s eyes was British in the same way that she knew this train was taking her on a ride to nowhere.
The woman frowned. “I was under the impression that I was saving your arse, actually.”
Camille rolled her eyes. “They were about to take me to their secret hideout so I could free their captives and maybe ‘accidentally’ kill them. What’s your deal, anyway? Nothing better to do than stalk an agent doing her job?”
The woman smiled. “I’m dead,” she said. “So…actually, no, nothing better going on.” She held her hand out to Camille. “Vesper Lynd.”
Oh. Now that she looked for it, Vesper’s outline was a little fuzzy, and the ends of her hair went wet and then dry and then wet again. She had drowned, hadn’t she? “I haven’t seen Bond in years,” Camille said.
Vesper sighed. “He’s been fishing on a tropical island for a while, which is very safe but unfortunately monotonous, so I’ve branched out into making sure his friends are all right.”
Camille eyed her. Beautiful. Smart. She could see why Bond had been so broken up. At the same time… “No offense,” she said. “But have you thought about…” getting a life “...picking up a hobby? Seeing other dead people?”
Vesper snorted, an ungainly expression on her beautiful face. “What,” she said, “is knitting supposed to make up for betraying the love of my life?”
“You don’t have to knit. You’re dead—you can see the world. I feel like Bond would want you to be happy in your undeath,” Camille said, gesturing towards her. “Not, you know, doing the guardian angel stalker routine.”
Vesper pursed her lips. “And you’re doing that yourself, are you?” she asked. “Getting beat up by human traffickers is a nice little hobby?”
“It’s a job,” Camille corrected her. “My hobbies are watching foreign dramas, fostering cats, and tipsy game nights with friends.” She leaned forward, meeting Vesper’s green eyes with hers. “You have all the time in the world like this, Vesper. Who are you when you’re not haunting James Bond?”
The train lurched to a stop and its doors opened. Camille walked out into the blinding sunshine.
---
“We can’t take her there, that’s too near where the other one is—”
“Listen, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but we’re running out of desert. Gas isn’t cheap. The graves have to be closer together.”
The idiots thought she was dead. They were trying to figure out where to bury her.
Camille opened her eyes and smiled. “You have other problems,” she told them, leaping to her feet in the back of their pickup. She looked down at them. “Worse problems.”
One of them was holding up a phone with a GPS app open, for one thing. Prior route nice and retraceable. She didn’t need them alive if she had that.
---
When she got home to Opa curling around her ankles, her TV was already on, set to the Travel channel.
Camille reconned the place, found nothing, as expected, and sat on the couch. “I didn’t mean you should haunt me instead,” she said.
Her living room light flickered; Camille imagined a shrug.
“Well, I have my choice of jobs. Anywhere specific you want to go?”
The living room light flickered again.
“Like I said, you have time to decide.”
Vesper hadn’t had many good choices in life, as far as Camille had heard. She should at least have some in death.

im kinda of obsessed with summer charles and if you put together summer charles + reputation era charles version thats what i think it would turn
an: as the usual this is merely fictional and does not represents any compromise with real life, in this one let's pretend that ferrari didn't fucked things up again and again, and its based on the 2022 season as well; im considering that charles won in monaco and in silverstone, and isabella won in canada, and in this ideal universe named my mind, the championship would be verstappen with 251 points and leclerc with 199
charles leclerc x ferrari!driver
prompt: isabella manzucci got the ferrari seat in the 2022 season, she got a feeling about that season and after keep an eye on charles leclerc she thought she could help him be a world champion that year, what neither of them were expecting was the media going around with rumors about the relationship you two had
Visions | Charles Leclerc imagine
Silverstone was always meaningful to Isabella, after Monza, her home race, it was her favourite race of the calendar. She had plenty victories around that track with karting and formula two. Now that she was sitting in a Ferrari car she wanted to keep the good memories around.
The 2022 season was pretty competitive, and when she accepted the seat in Ferrari she knew she would be the second driver, and when someone give her a job, she'll do her best, and her job was help the team make Charles Leclerc world champion.
After Charles won his home GP thanks to her, they became closer than they already were. She was able to defend her position and hold the red bull car behind her and prevent both of them to go after Charles. That's was why they chose her to the seat, they saw the way she defended positions back in formula two and how aggressive she could be doing that, and it was not like she couldn't win, she could and she did win, and despite the fact that her main goal was to be a world champion, it wasn't happening this year, so Isabella was there to be the guardian of Charles positions, it doesn't matter where he was, she was always behind, and when she was ahead he was doing the same thing for her.
Things weren't different during the British GP, she got the pole position because Charles commited a mistake, and after qualy she went straight to her racing engineer and no one could ever expect the words that came out of her mouth.
"If anything happens tomorrow and Charles is faster than me you need to let me know, the gap is pretty tight and if it wasn't for his mistake on the last curve he would start from pole."
"Ok, I'll let you know, and what you're gonna do?" your engineer was your engineer since the formula two days, he knew you better than asking
"We'll switch, I'm here to defend and he is the fastest driver, I don't want to beat him, I'm his teammate and teammates help each other's."
Isabella wasn't deliver the position to him, if there was any chance for her to win she would chase that, but that sunday was not her sunday, she won in Canada and she would win again, but it wasn't that day, and she was ok with that. Her engineer didn't have to say a word, she was seeing by her mirrors the pace Charles was, he was insane. When he got closer to her, she let him use the vacuum of her car and overtake, and that was how her fight with one of red bulls car started. She turned on the radio button:
"Which one is this one?"
"Perez." her engineer answered to her immediately
"My tires are good, are they good on data too?"
"Yes, they are."
"Where is Verstappen? I don't want any surprises."
"P7, Isabella, he is in P7." Matt answered you one more time before he said "You are free to push." the garage knew that "push" means "defend that position like your life depends on that" and that was exactly what she did.
She didn't let one minute of fresh air to the car behind her, her biggest driving skills were not being hard to overtake, it was that she feels joy everytime she had ti defend her position, and if by that she made a living hell for the drivers behind her, it was fine. The red bull tried to overtake her in some pretty dirty ways, but the spell always turned against to the warlock and the time he thought he would overtake her, by pushing her off the track, she take her car away and Hamilton overtook Perez because he lost the breaks for seconds, he was now in P3, and defend against the seven time world champion was a challenge she was up for it. Unfortunately for her, she didn't have to do much, the F1-75 was faster than the W-13, she just needed to keep the pace and manage her tires, which she did.
And once again it was a 1-2 to the Scuderia.
"Ok, Isabella, that is a P2, P2. Well done." your engineer said on the radio and before you could thank him your boss was speaking to you
"Isabella, lavoro da futura campionessa qui, complimenti, hai fatto benissimo, grande Isabella" Isabella, work of a future champion here, well done, you did amazing, grande Isabella
"Grazie Mattia, grazie! Ritmo fantastico oggi, bravi ragazzi." Thank you Mattia, pace was incredible today, well done guys "Yessss boy, super proud of us today, is celebration day." you said on the radio before leading your car to the 2 spot.
The narrators went wild with that.
"Charles Leclerc didn't take pole yesterday, but in fact he win today. Charles Leclerc is the winner of the 2022 British GP. Isabella Manzucci comes home to make a 1-2 to the Scuderia, today is celebration day in Maranello."
Isabella got out of your car and went straight to her team, Charles was already there, and before she could reach her people he interdicted her for a huge hug, you high fived each other before she could definitely jump in the arms of her engineers.
You got weighted and removed your helmet and balaclava, letting go the pair of braids you have, the green already fading between your not so blond hair anymore. The reporters were already there to the post race interview, but before you could reach them, you went to congratulate Lewis, amazing race he did today, champion material.
"The move you put out there with Perez... girl, that was insane, and congratulations on P2, you know you deserve more, but amazing race." Lewis said and hugged you too
"Beat him on his own game, he would have pushed me out if track if I didn't take my car away." you let go the second part because you knew you deserved more, but not this year.
The interviews were the same as the usual, until one of the reporters brought up you letting Charles overtake you without a fight.
"Yeah, you know, I'm not the one fighting for the championship, even though all the people says he is my number one rival I don't see that way, Charles was faster than me today, he was pushing his car more than I was, I wasn't put a fight for position knowing it would jeopardize not just my race, but his too, and at the end we got a 1-2, so I am super happy." the interview didn't last long after that.
When you joined formula one they were expecting a volatile woman, because that was all they think about woman in motorsport, they don't think you can play by their rules, they were expecting someone to cross answered interviews and would put up a show when things didn't go as planned. And that proved that they didn't watch your formula two championship, you won that one on merit, obviously, but you bended the circumstances to you, not the other way around.
"Are you and Charles on a secret relationship?" was the last question, you let go a loud laugh
"Yeah, sure, we're getting married tomorrow in Las Vegas. No guys, Charles and I we are friends and teammates, thats all." and with that you could finally go back to Ferrari hospitality. Charles was waiting for you in front of you small break room.
"You let me pass. Why?" something about Charles you started to like was the way he was direct to you
"You didn't got pole yesterday because of your mistake, if you had gotten that pole you would have won. You were faster than me. You are the one fighting for the championship. You deserved to win, I just did what I was hired to do: help you win, and I gladly did that."
"I don't want to win because you let me win, Isabella. I want to win in a clean way." he let go a heavy breath
"You were faster than me, Charles, if I have put a fight for the position I would have loose it. And could have ended pretty bad for us both, I'm not fighting with you, I'm fighting for you. I don't want to win because I want to prove people I can beat you, I know I can, we are driving equal cars. You and I... we got that talent, Ferrari wouldn't have picked us if we didn't. I'm fighting for you, for you to be champion. You win this year and nex year we can actually compete against each other." you answered honestly, there was no reason for you to lie to him and try to say you didn't let him pass
"Ok, but I am definitely not waiting until next year, you have the potential to win, use that, fight harder, Isabella, don't make it easy for me just because it is the safest way, let them see the incredible driver you are." Charles said back to you and gave you a temple kiss.
If there was a narrator voice on that moment, the narrator would be all over the butterflies flying in Charles chest, from day one that Isabella arrived in the factory to try the simulator he saw something about her. And during those last months he grew a feeling for her that outcome to be more than just admiration and friendship. Charles Leclerc fell firts, that was obvious, but Isabella was about to fell harder, and that couldn't happen, the media was already over their heads thinking about a relationship between drivers and the rumors about how she got that seat was all over the news.
Isabella changed her race suit to something more comfortable and skipped celebrations, leading straight to the person she trusted the most inside formula one, he, the man, the machine: Sebastian Vettel. Funny story, she became a testing driver for Ferrari in 2019, the hours she spent on simulator was side by side with the world champion, and despite the age difference, they built an amazing friendship. Every time she doubted about herself he was there to give her a comfort word, when she did the seat test he was there to show the new buttons to her, Seb was one of the most amazing person she knew and she was happy to call him a friend, and a father figure. The media joked about how Seb got two new kids, her and Mick, because he was indeed a father figure to both if them.
It wasn't hard to find him, he was inside the Aston Martin garage, talking with his team. One of them recognized her and waved at her, Seb turned to see the girl and made a 10 minutes with his hands, and she waited, when he left the garage the exactly 10 minutes latter he already knew something was wrong. So when they take their seats in some fast food restaurant the first thing he asked was:
"What is it, kid?"
"I'm thinking, about the season, and the championship, and everything... Lewis said to me that I deserve better, Charles came with a whole speech about me showing the world the amazing driver I am and bla bla bla. I know that, you know? I know I can win, but Im afraid." Isabella let it all go
"Afraid of what, Izzy Bizzy?" you loved the nickname, always take a smile away from you
"I know I can win, I won in Canada, but what if I can't win? If the team clear me to go for it, what if I push too hard, or lose control, or collide with other driver? What if all I am is a second driver?"
"Isabella..." Sebastian knew how hard you could be on yourself, everyone inside the garage knew that "you know what I am about to say, don't be too hard on yourself. You can win, I know you can, and how can you doubt about your potential, you helped your teammate to be champion in formula two and the next year you were champion, Ferrari choose you to be the testing driver you were barely 20, you got that seat because you are good. I know after the awful season last year they want to win, that's why they promoted you so earlier. And it is a lot, a lot if pressure, a lot of expectations, a lot of fear... and that's ok, i know you hate to fail, and that's why you are gladly on the average, but next year you gonna have to be bigger than the average, you gonna have to let it float the champion material, don't treat yourself so poorly."
"Yeah, you are right, you always are. But what if when the time comes I'll panic?"
"You got a formula one seat at Ferrari in your first year, you barely commited any mistake, you adjusted with the car, you don't panic, Izzy Bizzy, not after a bad race, not with the pressure, you will not panic." Seb always had a way to calm you down, it was like talk with your dad.
You spent the night talking and sharing the french fries, when you were back in the hotel Seb said one thing that glued on your mind.
"Don't let Charles settle, you need to put a challenge for him the way he put a challenge for you, you are the best duo on the grid, you're pushing each other and that's good, if you settle you lost the wanting thing, if Charles said to you to don't make it easier for him, don't."
"Thank you, ZebSeb, always a pleasure to talk to you and you wisdom." you hugged him and went to your room, next race would be here before you could see.
You hated Austria, the red bull ring and the orange fog always got you on a terrible mood, put that together with the fact your car exploded and you got what is like the worst race of the year so far. But Charles won, which it was great. He did the most beautiful race of his season so far, the overtakes he pulled out with Verstappen was chef kiss, and he was looking so happy on that podium, so glad with himself that even your DNF could make you unhappy.
After Charles got out of the podium you were walking around holding his trophy, you made all the interviews together and considering you were always glued with one out the trinity drivers which was Hamilton, Riccardo and Vettel, see you with your teammate wasn't big of a surprise.
Charles got a question about your DNF.
"Yeah, unfortunately for us, the race is a little bit more difficult than the usual, we have to push the car to the limit, but I'm happy Isabella is ok, next week it's gonna be better." he answered and tried to give you a wink, the reporter laughed and ask you the same thing
"Definitely, I wasn't expecting the car to explode with me, but those kinda of things happen. We are definitely facing the back of the grid in France but as long as the car performs well we're good." it was your turn to give Charles a wink, a true wink, the reporters around were pretty entertained with the wink competition.
"Isabella, one last question, why are you walking around with Charles trophy like it was a baby?"
"Oh, he didn't tell you? It's my birthday gift." you tried to give the best look you could and you lose it when you saw the panic look in Charles face
"Thats a lie. She stole the trophy from me and walked away, ans your birthday was ten days ago."
"I didn't steal it, you delivered to me, if I walked away or not it doesn't matter because you delivered the trophy in my hands!" both of you were close to being prohibited to do interviews together, they already separated you and Daniel because you couldn't focused on the questions and each 4 words that came out if your mouth you got 10 minutes laughing about something Daniel said and vice versa.
List of people Isabella was forbidden to do interviews with:
1) Daniel Riccardo
2) Danny Ric
3) DR3
The reporters loved the dynamic you had with Charles and those little arguments, thank God the interviews were already over and you decided to pull out a prank with Charles.
You got ready before him and once he went to talk to his engineers you entered silently on his room and put the trophy inside your bag and leave it. You got into your car and but the seatbelt on the trophy, taking a picture just for the record and waited.
A couple of hours later, Charles posted a storie saying he lost his trophy with a sad face on it. You spent half an hour laughing about it, because that could 100% happen to him. The next day you went for a ride in Monaco with his trophy on the car, you posted the picture with a "found this one last night, I loved it" and immediate Charles replied with "I KNEW IT!", the formula one page loved that and made a post about it, you pass trough Charles apartment and give it back his trophy, both of you chatted for a while, but you were coming home for the week, so you would see each other just during the French GP.
If the Austrian GP didn't went great for you, the French one started amazing for Charles, even though you could start from the back of the grid, during qualy you went until the Q3 to help Charles to get the pole. The start of the race was great, everything was going well, until Charles slipped and went to the barriers.
You and Charles were pretty similar in a couple of things, both of you deeply hate to commit mistakes, that got stuck in your head and it was difficult to let it go, specially mistakes that were committed by ourselves and alone.
"Is he ok?" you asked on radio
"Yes, already out of the car."
"Ok, thank you."
"Get ready to box if there is a safety car."
"Ok." you waited to see if it would be a real one or virtual, when the radio opened again it was a "Isabella, box, box"
You pulled a risky maneuver on Perez that got you a 5 seconds penalty, you pay that and went back to the podium fight, but unfortunately, you didn't got there, the box and the penalty came in the wrong time and you couldn't push enough to the podium. And after the pattern post race you went to find Perez to apologize to him, he was talking to Max and when you got closer both of them were static, you didn't interact with the red bull drivers often, but you mom taught you better than being proud.
"Hey, guys, congrats Max, great race. And I'm sorry, Checo, should have paid more attention on that." you gave him a yellow smile, but he said it was ok, things like that happen, you didn't spent much time close to them, you went to your media duties and after that you went to find Charles, it was time for an intervention: tequila, croissant, marvel movies and Pierre Gasly. You and Gasly weren't exactly friends, but you got along pretty well, and everytime Charles was sad, frustrated or angry with a race, both of you were there, smiles on face and tequila bottles. This time wasn't different, the three of you sit on the floor and watch the avengers on the screen of your computer the whole night, the boys always commit the mistake to sleep first, which gives you the most amazing arsenal of pictures of them. You finished the first part of ultimate and sleept as well, there was still one more race before summer break.
And again, Hungary couldn't went worse. You have an amazing respect towards George, but unfortunately the W-13 wouldn't offer much of a challenge, or was what you thought, the team made the strategy based on overtake on first curve, but Russell escaped you and Charles. The strategy went down the hole, they put the hards on Charles and mediums on Isabella, the car was good but not great, everything felt out of place.
By the end of the race you weren't even trying to overtake anyone, you were just there trying to understand what just happened.
"Isabella, thats a P5, P5." your engineer said to you
"Yeah, thank you."
You and Charles went to interview together and when you were asked about what happened you were pretty honest:
"Dude, once I talk with the team I'll let you know, but the car wasn't great today, we struggled a bit on free practice so it's natural to struggle a bit today too."
"And what are you doing during summer break?"
"Me and my friends were going to a boat trip." that got you happy
"Lauren and Catherine?" you nodded, everyone knows you were really close to Priya's sisters* "What about you, Charles?"
"There is room for another one on that boat trip?" he chuckled.
"Im gonna talk to the girls, do a plebiscite, a vote and I'll call you back." you joked.
You answered another rounds of questions and finally went to your room, packing up and taking a ride with Charles on his private jet.
"The girls and I agreed to have you on board with us, if you like to." you said to him and for the first time in that day he smiled
"Yeah, I would love to." lucky Charles, Samuel would be there too, the girls and I we have a YouTube channel and summer break work pretty well for the vlogs and Samuel was the camera man. You were already thinking about all the pranks you would put on Charles.
Your phone lighted with a tweet notification. Charles had tweeted something.

Thank God it's summer break, couldn't stand see Isabella's wings on my mirrors every Sunday

Those would be amazing summer break days. And the news were already looking forward to the narrative of "hidden relationship between the Ferrari drivers" the news "Ferrari drivers enjoy summer break together" would be all over the media, but you knew deep down that you need to support each other, especially after the last two races.
ps: lauren and catherine are the characters from this one, lets consider both of stories happen in the same universe

Bit random, but what do you think of the whole rivalry thing (hard to call it a rivalry when 90% of it is Christian being a Jack Russell terrier to Toto in his own words (literally said this on camera in DTS btw which is so funny to me) between Toto and Christian?
i could write an actual essay about this omg
the first thing to note is that whilst on paper toto is the more successful team principal, i am of the opinion (begrudgingly) that christian is better at his job, lol. that being said:
toto and christian are the longest standing TPs on the grid right now, and its not even close. every other team within the last two years has had a team principal change, and three of those are for the upcoming 2024 season (haas, sauber, alpha tauri). wolff has been in since 2013, horner since 2005 (INSANITY.) Even vassuer, if you count his time at sauber, has only been on the grid as a TP since 2017.
the reason i say christian is better at his job is because christian has built RBR from nothing: wolff inherited a relatively successful operation from Braun GP/mercedes. With both prinicipals' longevity in the sport, it makes perfect sense that the fans and drivers alike rcognise their influence on the sport and their talent, thus more media attention to their management, and to their teams, who are the leading teams anyway in recent decades: RBR from 2010-13, merc from 14-20 and now back to RBR again. which, of course, makes for high stakes in the battle with each other (ferrari was merc's closest competitor during the dominant era, but RBR was still winning races with verstappen and ricciardo).
then, their demeanours play off each other well. both of them are not above playing dirty to get what they want, and its brilliant. toto's typical sort of austrian nonchalance paired with christian's smarmy brand of britishness is fab to watch, but they also definitely play it up for the media to some extent. its all about pressure: in the media, on the track, to the drivers, you get it. theyre always trying to push each other to admit something that they dont want to admit, whether it be a weakness or a cheating scandal. but they're also willing to team up against a common enemy (an illegal engine circa 2019 comes to mind).
they take digs at each other not for the sake of it, but to create headlines, which create pressure, which translates to track results. but, of course, mercedes and red bull can handle pressure in immense degrees. so it becomes this big thing.
im not going into 2021. im not doing it. but thn you obviously have lewis and max, probably the two best drivers of this generation, and both team principals have a long history with these drivers. christian has known max since he was a teenager, lewis has been linked with mercedes thru ron dennis since karting. and they would do anything to see their drivers get success that they think they deserve. (rip george russell, you'll have ur time when lewis retires). its rare, in f1, really, to see drivers stay at the same team for that long. max has been in rbr for almost a decade (not including his stint in toro rosso) and hamilton will be going into his twelvth year in merc in 2024. in the same time period, ricciardo has been thru four teams, sainz three teams, alonso four (if you count alpine/renault as seperate). so theres a loyalty there to their top drivers.
anyway. im not a merc or a rbr fan (forza ferrari siempre) but toto and christian are undoubtedly the greats of the paddock - their success is insane. and just like in the sphere of the drivers, naturally when there are two great personalities so close in performance at the top of the field, they're going to be pitted against each other, but they definitely lean into it a bit.
(i prefer toto, because i have a vendetta against RBR and everything is stands for and i think christians hypocrisy is worse than toto's, but i love watching them both annoy each other)
edit: dts often does christian a little bit dirty imo. hes hypocritical and annyoing, but that, in a way, is his job, and hes really fucking good at it. hes also a lot more competent than the show puts out, and equally agrees to film more than toto does so the viewpoint is somewhat biased.

2015 season summary
FINALLY! Sorry this took so long, but as you know I was drowning in classes and thesis writing. Now that it’s done let’s get back to it, starting with the 2015 season summary.
Winning his second title really put Lewis at ease at Mercedes. He’s relaxed, he’s comfortable, he’s confident. He turned 30 during the break. His relationship with Nicole finally ended for good. He talks about growing up, enjoying every day. He’s doing even more beside racing than before (and yes, it starts discourse again). In particular in the first half of the season there’s also a recurrent theme of him wanting to be a team leader (but maybe he also means first driver, he is out of a contract at the end of the year after all).
Lewis is maturing for sure, but he’s not fully grown yet. There’s no big drama during the year, though. Nico is unhappy with Lewis in China and then there’s a couple of arguably aggressive starts in Japan and in the USA. Things are pretty chill overall. Mercedes is dominating (except for that horrible mistake in Monaco and the struggle in Singapore) although Ferrari comes through here and there. And in the team, Lewis is on top. Easily. 11 poles, 10 wins.
But 2015 might just be the eye of the storm between two spicy seasons. Nico is on pole for the last 6 races, and although he’s only able to convert them into wins once Lewis has won his third title, the shift is palpable. As soon as he feels it, Lewis' attitude changes as well. He’s less positive, more defensive. As I was saying he’s not there yet. Maybe he just can’t be wise in the face of Nico. Maybe these two just bring the worst out of each other and that’s all there can be. (After all Nico also showed he can’t take the high road either with cap gate.) At the end of the year, Lewis shields himself from the questions with his third title (“I think being world champion sounds a lot better than winning the race.”), but that won’t work anymore once the next season starts 👀
Other important events of 2015 are the RBR - Renault engine issue, and also Max’s F1 debuts. Everybody is already adamant he’ll win a championship someday and indeed, he is very impressive.
Now let’s see if the storm indeed resumed in 2016 (but yes. yes it did. we all know it did.)
Let’s talk numbers : so far, I’ve completed 52.5% of my rewatch. In total, I’ve made 1,558 GIFs to illustrate it.
Here’s a list of the 2015 GPs with a quick summary and the link to the actual recap if you wanna read it or take a look at the GIFs I made :
1. Australian GP : 2015 season context. First season at Ferrari for Seb and Alonso went back to McLaren. Also Max’s first season. Loads of messy stuff happening in the pre-season / first GP weekend. Lewis interview. Lewis pole. Lewis win. Extremely boring race. Seb making fun of Nico.
2. Malaysian GP : Race n°150! Wet quali + controversy. Lewis pole. Natural vs. analytical driver rant. Lewis P2. (Bonus : “good boy, good boy” - the famous sewis podium moment - pegging Hamilton)
3. Chinese GP : Lewis pole again. Eventful race. Lewis win. Brocedes drama. (Bonus : Lewis and Nico’s postrace interviews)
4. Bahrain GP : Lewis pole. Nico interview. Lewis win. Stressful ending. Baseball celebration. (Bonus I found later on : joint Sewis interview)
5. Spanish GP : There’s a whole “Lewis is too distracted” thing again ugh. Bad race start. Bad pit stop. Moody Lewis. Several pit stop dramas. Lewis P2, his 75th podium.
6. Monaco GP : Lewis pole. Hill has to swallow his words about him being too distracted. Great Lewis x Thierry Henry segment. Big crash then terrible strategy decision. P3.

8. Austrian GP : Lewis pole. Bad start. A terrible scary crash. Some stupid mistake. P2.
9. British GP : Lewis pole (yes, still). Lewis drifting with Johnny segment. Horrible start but good race. Lewis win. He is absolutely buzzing.
10. Hungarian GP : Lewis pole. Minute of silence for Jules. Terrible start. Suspenseful but bad race. Lewis P6. (Bonus : “you’re very quiet Bono”)
11. Belgian GP : Lewis pole, for a change. Lewis win. The crowd chanting his name. Talking about retirement. Finally admits he might win the title again.
12. Italian GP : Bleached blond Lewis! And guess what? On pole. Lewis interview. Rowing competition. Weird, weird end. Lewis win. Nice cooldown room / podium.
13. Singapore GP : Lewis surprisingly not on pole! Mercedes is struggling. DNF. Also someone is walking on the track? (Bonus : Seb being a flirt)
14. Japanese GP : Nico pole + interview. Aggressive start. Alonso’s “GP2 engine!” Kinda boring race. Lewis win. Matches Senna’s record. Nice sewis podium.
15. Russian GP : Nico pole. Briatore talking about Lewis. Crash start. Another bad crash. Lewis is a good man. Lewins win. Gayest sewis scene I’ve seen so far. Ferraris getting strong. It finally truly dawns on him he might win a title again. Controversial WCC decider.
16. US GP (part 1 - part 2 - part 3) : Wet quali, Nico pole. Starting on inters. Aggressive start again. Loads of issues. Good race! WDC decider! Famous cap controversy. Nice Niki interview and hug. “Hopefully he’s proud.”

“Tell me what you know?” I asked once more, calmy, at the man I had tied up in front of me. I saw him wiggle his arms a bit more, trying to get himself loose. “It’s useless trying to set yourself free, I was taught by the best. Now, tell me. What. You. Know.”
As soon as I landed in Egypt following the lead that Rhodey had sent me, it’s all been a hectic blur. From the intel these few black market thugs had given me, some weirdo cult leader was trying to resurrect an evil Egyptian crocodile lady.
Why are they always trying to bring back these evil gods? I mean people like this want to fix the world, yet always find such an extreme way. I felt my chest tighten, my mind going back to Wakanda, back to that battle.
“You know, I really wanted to do this the nice way…” I trailed off, lifting my hand up. I hated having to use my powers, I had grown up so scared of them, so afraid that if I used them I’d be separated from my mother.
Now I only use my power as a last resort, something Nick Fury taught me way back when he took me under his wing. The thug in front of me started gasping for air, panic filling his eyes. I raised my eyebrow, looking at him expectedly.
“I can make the pain go away, just tell me what you know.” I told him, hoping he’d tell me what he knew. I didn’t want to hurt him, just scare him into blabbing any information.
“Fine... I’ll tell you…” He finally breathed out. I gave him a small smile, and nodded. “Ammits tomb, I’ll give you the location. But you're on your own lady.”
On my own. If only he knew, I'd have been left alone a long time ago.
“You better hurry up, they’re probably really close to getting the ushabti.” The thug said after I had put the coordinates he had given me into my phone's GPS system. “Good luck. You’re gonna need it, sunshine.” I recoiled hearing the nickname only my loved ones called me fall from his lips.
“Have an amazing day!” I smiled at him, waving as I started walking away.
“Wait! You left me tied up! Untie me!” I heard his voice fade with every step I took.
☾☀︎︎☽☾☀︎︎☽☾☀︎︎☽☾☀︎︎☽☾☀︎︎☽☾☀︎︎☽☾☀︎︎☽
“Go on this small mission, they said, It’ll be fun, they said!” I huffed, reaching up towards the small ledge just a few inches above my head. To get to the tomb I had to climb over a rocky hill, and it honestly made me question if letting this said cult leader release the evil crocodile was so bad.
“Maybe I should start training again after this.” I grumbled out, finally pulling myself over the small ledge. I scooted across the little platform the hill had, trying not to lose my balance. “Come on (Y/N)! You’re almost over the hill.”
“BAHHH” The sudden noise spooked me, causing me to shriek and lose my balance. I yelled as I felt myself painfully roll down the rocky hill, all because of a silly mountain goat.
“Bloody hell!” I heard a British voice say as I reached the bottom of the hill. “Stand behind me Layla!”
I slowly stood up, body aching from my painful tumble. I looked up at the couple standing in front of me, completely humiliated at the fact that they just saw me get scared by a goat and fall down a hill as a result.
I quickly got over my embarrassment and pulled out my gun pointing it at them, they're probably working for this cult and I had to stop them no matter what.
“Don’t move, take me to your cult leader. NOW!” I said sternly, finally looking the man in the eyes. I had to contain myself from gasping, he was gorgeous. His brown eyes bore into mine, and I could feel my heart thumping wildly in my chest.
‘So he’s beautiful, so what? Focus on the mission!‘ I thought to myself, this was no time to be fawning over strangers. Especially not over one who was part of an evil cult.
“I’m sorry what? You must be mistaken.” The guy said, shielding the woman behind him from my gun. “We’re not part of Harrow’s cult, we’re trying to stop him.”
“Wait so you’re not with the guys trying to raise the croc?” I asked, eyebrows raised. “How am I supposed to believe you?”
“Well how do we know that you’re not part of Harrow’s cult?” The woman spoke up, taking the spot next to the man. She crossed her arms waiting for my response.
“Touché!” I said, putting my gun back into the backside of my pants. “My friend works for the US government, he sent me here to investigate after the moon and star incidents that have been happening these past few nights.” I told them, I don’t know why, but my instincts were telling me I could trust them. Nat always told me to follow my instincts.
“Yup sorry about that, that’s actually on me!” The man spoke up, a sheepish look on his face. “Well it’s on the annoying American man living inside of me.”
“You know what, I’m not even gonna ask. I’m (Y/N) by the way!” I smiled at them, a bit confused at the statement the man had just said, but with all the things I’ve seen I try to not question things so much.
“I’m Layla! And this is Steven.” The woman said, smiling at me politely. “And now that we’ve established we’re on the same team, we should probably get moving before Harrow releases Ammit.”
“So the American government huh, you’re an FBI agent? CIA? DODC?” Layla asked as we started walking, looking back at me curiously.
“Something of the sorts.” I smiled back forcefully, trying to swallow the knot that was forming in my throat. What was I meant to say? Ex SHIELD? Ex Avenger? All the organizations I stood for crumbled. And here I stood in the middle of the dust, lost.
“Sorry love, we don’t mean to pry.” The man, Steven said, an apologetic look on his face. I felt butterflies in my stomach, and gave him a small smile.
“No worries, I just don’t work for the government anymore.” I stated, although I didn’t want to tell my life story to these 2 complete strangers, I didn’t want them to think of me as rude.
“Can’t be an easy job huh? Especially with everything that seems to be going on over there in the states.” Layla said, giving me a sympathetic look.
“It isn’t, wasn’t.” I corrected myself. “At least we had the avengers.” I looked down at the ground, I could feel the tears well up in my eyes. I didn’t need to cry in front of these people, I wasn’t going to cry in front of them.
“Well would you look at that.” I heard Steven say, as I looked up to see what he and Layla were looking at. The campsite was finally in view, even from the distance I could tell it looked deserted. I hope we weren’t too late.
“Well this is it…” I trailed off as we made our way onto the dig site. I don’t know why, but something in my bones was telling me this wasn’t going to end well.

*winks at your from across the continent, very mysteriously and anonymously* rank all the GPs from sexiest to least sexy ;)
I hope you meant the sexiest to least sexy GPs of this season, because they're all I know here they are.
Tumblr media
Sexiest — Singapore GP. Why?
Ferrari radio: “Lando 0.8 behind with DRS.” Carlos: “Yeah, it’s on purpose.”
Hands down the SEXIEST team radio of this season, and the most entertaining GP I’ve watched until now. “We know about the bromance, Martin. Sainz and Norris, what a double act they’ve been.” Two former teammates and close friends working together without any prior planning to come out in P1 and P2? And did you see the post-race celebrations? Their embrace against the fireworks and the sea of fans cheering? That image lives rent free in my mind. Singapore GP 2023 will forever live rent free in my mind. My heart was bursting with love for them.
2. Sexiest / Lando Norris leads the British GP — Lando’s home race and my second favorite race of this season. I tuned in just in time to watch Lando’s overtake of Max at the beginning of the race and I’ll never forget the sound of the crowd cheering for him. Then there’s the Budapest (Lando-broke-Max’s-porcelain-trophy-with-his-champagne-popping) GP and Austin.
Suzuka is somewhere between the second tier and “Okay, what damage do you have? Talent.” (these are all Lando catchphrases btw!) because he. did. not. kiss. his. trophy. and neither did Oscar. Ugh! Had he kissed it, Japan would have easily been in the second tier, but now it has been demoted to the third tier.
3. In Mexico, Lando climbed 12 positions from P17 to P5, which in my book is incredibly sexy. Apart from his collision with Checo, which puts Abu Dhabi in the “Chaos? Chaos.” tier, I’d say that P5 is a pretty sexy result.
4. Oh Qatar…Qatar was a rollercoaster of emotions. McLaren won a double podium in the end, but we’ll never forget how HARD Lando was on himself after he got his lap time deleted during qualifying. It broke my heart to see him so down. It's a good thing that he recovered quickly after that.
5. And the least sexy title goes to Las Vegas, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Lando’s DNF in LV after that terrible crash was a real heart stopper. Also, he had to pit six times in Bahrain.
Lando and Oscar went from finishing P17 and P20 in the first race of the season to P2 (and P1 for Oscar after the Qatari Sprint). Final result: 10 / 10 sexy season, will root for the same outcome or an even better one in 2024.

I don't understand why you'd get SO overwhelmingly pre-occupied with someone who's 5 places behind you in the WDC and who has a hefty points deficit by this point.
//
Maybe should ask F1 official medias why do they so eager to force the narrative that Russell is better and washes Hamilton the whole 2 years before Hamilton outscores Russell for 70p. HUge parts of Hamilton fans that I see are just being overprotective, bc even today when Russell chose the strategy himself to try to finish in front of Hamilton that Crofty and other guy on Sky blamed Hamilton and Mercedes for giving him that strategy, and when Merc being hesitant they also found a way to blame Hamilton for wanting to keep gap with Sainz, maybe you should ask them. Fans attitude and opinions on drivers doesn't matter at the end bc none of them has power over media and spread them bias under the name of neutral, and in the media, narratives is benefit Russell, so what fans doing is to make the voice form both side being balanced. Another example, Sky are quite outspoken about 2-year total points battel between Mercedes teammate before like Canada gp , and quite loud about qualifying during Bahrain to Monaco and Zandvoort to Singapore, they makes zero, when I mean zero it is ZERO noise about this total points let alone one season points after the gap is bigger and bigger.
So when BRITISH medias try so hard I dont think Hamilton fans being overreacted is a big deal, bc media can easily make their voice to millions while fans are just entertaining themselves, if media esp Sky can public talk about this year's teammate battle like last year, I think fans will calm down bc propaganda machine isn't obviously biased and do its job~, is basically like Charles fans towards Sainz bc the Spanish media overwork on forcing narrative for their clear favorite. that is what happen when the narrative form pundits are different from what the fans see.
And another points, they are just do what Russell fans did last year. Russell fans didn't make it that big, bc they aren't too much Russell fans, but doesn't change the fact that there were Russell fans last year used Russell outscored Hamilton as proof that Russell is better and Hamilton is old and washed and they did get a lot of juice from Hamilton haters and also backup the Hamilton washed narrative( if you didn't have impression of that, well as I said, fans opinions at the end doesn't matter bc it clearly can't be used for propaganda to form numerous people's cognition), so it just turn a way around now, tooth for tooth, eye for eye, Russell and his fans mentally benefitted from last year's narrative, so when Hamilton fans gain the upper hand, they will do the same, just bc there are more Hamilton fans that they make louder noise.
... So you're angry at George for something that you perceive 'the media' to have done and that he has no control over and nothing to do with, and something that his fans supposedly did that you admit wasn't that noticeable but you're going to make him suffer for as petty revenge regardless...
I'm like 90% sure this is a troll ask, but as you went to the effort of writing this all out, and on the off chance you are being serious, I would suggest reading it back, and thinking long and hard about whether a) any of these are rational reasons, b) whether George himself is responsible for or guilty of any of these reasons, and c) whether any of them are worth sending death threats and abuse to a guy who basically wants to drive race cars fast and do as well as possible in a competition he's competing in, or if doing so will stop these things happening?
I don't think you've quite done what you intended to here anon...

I was thinking, when you've got some time, I always see the first meeting being ruined mostly due to Newt. Think we could see something where it's more Hermann's doing it goes bad?
was talking w newtability on twitter about hermann accidentally messing things up by being a nervous gay disaster, please enjoy some nerds having communication issues in celebration of me being done graduate school
-----------------------------------
Newt arrives at the cafe approximately five minutes before he's due to meet the love of his life there.
That's kind of dramatic. Okay: Newt is pretty sure that Hermann is the love of his life, even if they haven't done the whole in person meeting thing before, like, right now, immediately, but it's probably better to hold off on those sort of labels until he can be sure (it's bad to get his hopes up or whatever). Newt's stomach has been a mess of butterflies and weird, tight nerves since he woke up in his hotel room that morning to a reminder email from Hermann about their scheduled coffee date, because like, my God, Hermann sent a reminder email, Hermann was looking forward to meeting him, probably. Newt spent a whole hour picking out an outfit (an impressive accomplishment, considering he packed exactly two pairs of jeans and three t-shirts in his carry-on), two bathing and shaving and attempting to flatten down (and then gel up) his mess of bedhead into something halfway decent. He printed out twelve of Hermann's emails with the shitty PC in the hotel lobby and he would've printed out more if an irate older lady hadn't snapped at him about how she needed look up directions to an art museum. Why did he do that? Who brings print out emails to a casual coffee date between friends? Could the older lady not just use a smartphone GPS or something?
The emails are in his messenger bag, and Newt sticks his hand under the flap to briefly run his fingers across the paper. Smooth and cool to the touch. It's strangely relaxing: Hermann's words on the paper, Hermann's words under his skin, enthusing about how he can't wait to pick Newt's brain about his most recent article over a friendly cup of coffee. Friendly! Hermann was Newt's friend. Newt never thought he had friends, because he's frankly kind of annoying, but apparently Hermann didn't get that memo. That's another reason why he needs to stop being so weird about things, like, immediately—Hermann being his Best Friend is way more important than him being the love of Newt's life. Well, kind of. Newt just doesn't want to fuck this up and lose a best friend before they can ever consider will-they-won't-theying into more amorous territory, is what he means.
Two minutes to go. Newt wonders if Hermann's already inside, or if he should wait out on the sidewalk for him. They may not have met in person before, but Newt's seen a worrying amount of pictures of the guy, and he doesn't think Hermann will be too hard to miss: weird, wide frog mouth, neatly kept dark hair, polished cane, wardrobe of a schoolmaster who died from consumption before photography was invented. General sensibilities of one too, probably. Hermann can seem a little stodgy and stiff-lipped in their correspondence sometimes, especially when Newt deigns to tease him about things, and Newt still can't decide if he's just really committed to being a British stereotype or if he's just shy. He hopes it's the latter. Newt can work with shy. Shy is kind of cute, actually.
He pats his hair nervously in his reflection in the glass of a cafe window, and then tugs at t-shirt. He chose his outfit badly: he didn't notice until now how wrinkled his shirt (some stupid freebie with a shark on it he got from a marine biology conference he gave a paper at in undergrad) is from being crammed in a suitcase for a day, or how ill-fitting the jeans (which have, like, way too many holes in them anyway) have become on him. One of the belt loops is torn, too, probably caught on a door handle at some point, and he knows that there's not a chance Hermann will miss that. He could always zip up his leather jacket to hide his various fashion faux pas, but he thinks that might make him look even weirder. It's weird that he's wearing it in the first place—it's, like, 80 degrees out, and he's already kinda sweating.
Newt's phone buzzes insistently at him—the alarm he set for their meeting time. No sign of Hermann out here, which means he must be inside already, which is really what Newt should have expected. Stodgy and stiff-lipped Hermann would have gotten them a table an hour ago, and probably already placed an order for a drink he knew Newt would like. The Hermann of Newt's stupid daydream fantasies would, anyway. (That Hermann is such a romantic.)
He pokes at his hair one more time before he takes a deep breath and pushes open the door. The bell tinkles overhead. There's no great, dramatic, sweeping romantic moment: Newt's eyes don't fall on Hermann as soon as Hermann (hearing the bell) happens to look up eagerly towards the door, having been sitting here in perfect agony waiting for Newt, and he doesn't rush forward to Newt and pull him into a romantic embrace and hand him flowers and a box of vegan chocolates. There's no secret pre-arranged code they decided to use, either, no red roses tucked into shirt lapels or specifically hued shirts to indicate that the guy in librarian glasses and a sweatervest is Newt's guy in librarian glasses and a sweatervest. Hermann doesn't even notice Newt, actually, even though Newt notices Hermann. (There's no mistaking that froggy mouth or those mascara-dark eyelashes.)
This is most likely because Hermann seems to be waging a war against an extremely large, and extremely fresh-looking, dark stain on his neat white button-down, an overturned mug on the cramped table steadily dripping more coffee onto the cafe floor and splattering Hermann's saddle shoes.
Newt's breath catches in his throat. He thinks, briefly, if he were a cartoon character, there would probably be little hearts floating around his head, and he might start floating over to Hermann or some shit. Neither happens, but he is so distracted by Hermann's weird beauty that he almost trips over his untied shoelaces.
"Damn it all," Hermann seems to mutter, and tosses his damp handkerchief down to the floor in a fit of obvious fury. It lands with a wet splat in the coffee puddle. And then he looks up towards the door. Newt watches his eyebrows leap up his creased forehead, his mouth fall open in a wide O, his cheeks go a shade of red visible even from here. He fumbles for his cane and pushes himself to his feet clumsily; then he freezes, like he can't decide why he did that, and then—very slowly—waves at Newt. "I spilled something," he says, loudly, and then snaps his mouth shut, his blush spreading to his ears.
Oh, god, what an accent. (He's so much posher than Newt expected. Like a stupid period piece come to life. He knows the second he hears Hermann say his name, he's done for.) Several heads swivel in Newt's direction. Newt hurries to the table quickly, unable to fight the beam spreading across his face, and immediately seizes Hermann's hand in a wild handshake. A handshake seems like the thing to do—the thing to give your fancy, posh, old-fashioned penpal. Newt shakes it, over and over, and Hermann shakes back, and Newt beams, and Hermann stares at him with a look akin to indigestion. He smells overwhelmingly like coffee and mothballs. He's a few inches taller than Newt (not like it's hard). He swallows thickly a few times before he finally opens his mouth. "I spilled...something," he repeats, much more calmly.
"I saw," Newt says with a laugh. His anxiety is melting fast: Hermann is just a guy. Hermann isn't scary or intimidating or anything, and he's not a shining, polished, beacon of perfection either (even if he is posh), he's a weird, awkward, anxious guy just like Newt, and this is all gonna go okay. They can be weird, awkward, anxious guys together. "You didn't burn yourself, right?"
Hermann gives a stiff jerk of his head that Newt takes to mean no. His jaw is set so rigidly it looks almost painful. "I've ordered you a—tea," he says. "It—it should be ready soon. I think." He furrows his brow at Newt. "Do you like tea? I thought I ought to order you something, and it seemed—"
"Tea is great," Newt says. "Tea is perfect. Um, you mind if I sit down? I walked here from my hotel, and—"
Hermann drops Newt's hand like he's been shocked and gives another stiff jerk of his head, and, still smiling, Newt drops into the empty chair opposite Hermann. Hermann follows a moment later. Another droplet of coffee drips down to the pool on the floor below, right as Hermann puts his shoe in it. "Dr. Newt," Hermann finally says, and his eyes widen before he quickly corrects, "Er. I mean—Newton. Or. Dr. Geiszler. I'm a pleasure to meet you at last. It's. It's a pleasure. I—bugger." He glances at the front door of the cafe, like he's debating making a break for it, then back at Newt; he takes a deep breath. "It's a pleasure to meet you at last, Dr. Geiszler," he says. "I can't imagine you have any idea how long I've waited for this moment."
"Haha, sick," Newt says, which is a dumb thing to say, but he thought it sounded cool in the heat of the moment and might set Hermann at ease. Hermann stares at him blankly, so he has a feeling it does the opposite. "Um, yeah," he says instead, "it's really cool to meet you too. I hope you weren't waiting too long."
"Only a few hours," Hermnan says.
Newt laughs again. Hermann does not. "Oh," Newt says, quickly closing his mouth. He's serious. "You're...punctual. That's also, like, cool."
"Thank you," Hermann says.
He gives Newt a strange, unpracticed twist of a smile, like he's so used to frowning that he's forgotten how to do anything else. Newt's heart thuds furiously in his chest. He wonders if Hermann would let him hold his hand—or he wonders what Hermann would do if Newt gripped him by the coffee-stained front of his shirt and hauled him in for a kiss, right here, in front of a dozen other college students and business guys typing away on laptops. Hermann's hair is different than it had been in the last picture he sent Newt, shorter and buzzed (mostly) tight around his ears. Undercut kinda thing. No, that's being kind, it's a bowlcut that reeks of DIY (uneven, choppy in parts, and absolutely nothing that anyone would pay good money for) and Newt knows it. He wouldn't be surprised if Hermann did it in his hotel room mirror an hour before he got here, because that's exactly what Newt was considering doing in his own hotel room. Nerves. "New haircut?" Newt says.
"Er," Hermann says, hunching in on himself, and Newt knows for certain now that it's a DIY job. "...Yes." He grazes his palm against the buzzed back of his head. "...Do you like it?"
Absolutely not. Well, Newt wouldn't be caught dead with it, but maybe it's kind of charming on Hermann? No, it's, like, pretty bad. "Tooootally," Newt says, and because he can't think of anything else to do, gives him a thumbs up.
Hermann's face falls—Newt wasn't as convincing as he hoped—and he looks down at his lap, where he's tugging insistently at the cuff of his blazer. It's tweed and well-loved, missing the second button, with a brown elbow patch sewed patchily into the right side. Newt has a feeling that it's the blazer he wears to all his conferences, or anywhere requiring a little bit of familiarity in the face of discomfort; Newt's wearing his leather jacket today for the same reason. "Hermann," Newt says. "Look, I—" He inches a hand across the table towards Hermann's, but before he can so much as make it halfway, a tray of at least six different teacups is being dropped down in front of him.
"Okay, so, there's earl grey," their server says, reading from a small notepad, "peach green, oolong—"
"Er," Hermann says, and, as the server slides each off the tray before heading back behind the counter, Newt pretends like he was reaching for the napkin dispenser all along and grabs a fistful (and if Hermann noticed it's a feint, he doesn't say anything), "yes, Dr. Newton—Newton—as I might have mentioned, I wasn't quite sure what you wanted, and—I thought it safest to acquire a variety."
"Oh," Newt says. "Um. Cool. That's awesome, Hermann, so thoughtful of you"
He selects a cup at random, which turns out to be something called pomegranate passion according to the paper ticket stuck under the plate, and begins loosely twining the teabag string around his finger. He should just come out and say it already—that his working hypothesis is that Hermann is the love of his life, that he's been daydreaming about amending my penpal, Hermann to my boyfriend, Hermann for at least a year now, and that he wants to ruffle Hermann's terrible hair and kiss him silly. That Hermann has no need to be nervous around him, not now, not ever. May as well just jump right into it. "So, Hermann," he says. Hermann begins worrying at his wide lower lip, his eyes fixed on Newt's untouched cup of tea, and Newt takes a hurried sip before asking "Um, I was wondering—you don't have to answer if you don't want—like, are you seeing anyone?"
The tea's burned his tongue a little, and it's sweeter than what Newt would normally like. He powers through a mouthful so he doesn't hurt Hermann's feelings again. "Seeing anyone?" Hermann echoes.
"Like," Newt says, "as in, dating."
Another faux pas. Apparently. Newt seems to be full of them today. Hermann seems almost distraught at the question, staring at Newt in obvious bewilderment, and actually ripping a thread from the fraying seam of his blazer cuff. "Oh," he says, and begins stammering, "well—I'd thought, Newton—I'd assumed—should I not have?"
"Not have what?" Newt says. He tries again. "I was just asking, because if you're not seeing anyone, then that makes two of us. Kinda funny. Like, a funny coincidence, I mean." He rips the paper tag off the teabag and folds it in half. "Since we're here, together, and everything."
He's not sure how Hermann could possibly misinterpret that, except that Hermann does, suddenly rubbing at the fuzzy side of his new undercut, mouth twisting down, and saying (the last thing Newt expected to hear), "You think it looks foolish."
Newt blinks at Hermann. "Foolish? Uh—no, dude, why...? What are we talking about?"
"You think I'm foolish," Hermann says, his voice wavering.
"No, no," Newt says. "Look—"
But Hermann snags his cane with a fumbling hand and pushes himself to his feet. He doesn't look angry, like Newt kinda thought he would be, but embarrassed, like Newt's just spent ten minutes dressing him down about how wrong and stupid his research is or something. The coffee stain on his button-up has almost dried. "I have," Hermann says, looking towards the front door, "a—a prior engagement. I'd forgotten. I really must be going, Newton."
He flees from the coffee shop, leaving Newt to wonder what, exactly, he's done wrong.
