Well if you’re referring to the book's artstyle as a whole, then calm down buddy the illustrations as a whole are pretty good all things considered (believe me some of the illustrations in the later books are waaaaayyyyy iffier)

But if you are referring to Danilo Barozzi’s illustrations in the book then uhhhhh… yeah I don’t blame you, I didn’t like the big anime irises either, she didn’t cook with this one,,,

The interesting thing is Barozzi also did pieces for Secret of the Snow and those looked fine (she did well enough that I have to squint to determine which ones were done by her). My guess is either she did a lot of the illustrations for the latter half of SotS and we just got used to it, or it’s because the artstyle of special editions 2 and 3 were more… experimental? Books 4 onwards developed a very specific… look for the artstyle that adhered very closely to the main book illustrations of Spanish Dance Mission onwards, thus the illustrators had to follow suit, resulting in whatever looks off to look especially off.

(Even with this set of pictures, I’m only about 70% sure these are Barozzi’s because of how alike yet different the styles are from each other in the book. The first one could be Barozzi’s, but it could also be Giuseppe Facciotto’s, since he also did illustrations for SotS and his stylization means he sometimes puts the eyes really close to each other in a way that’s weird but still makes sense somehow.) On the contrary, books 2 and 3 (and I would probably even include book 1 there) had a more experimental look to the illustrations, which seems to be based more on (and this is just a theory of mine) Giuseppe Facciotto’s iconic work for the covers of Mouseford Academy books 2-12, 14, 15 and 17 in the English books (he did waaayyy more covers for the Italian Mouseford books— he was basically the cover guy for the Mouseford books for a WHILE) as well as the books from Spanish Dance Mission to Lost Letters. If you’re wondering why those covers go as hard as they do, then now you know why.

(These aren’t all of Facciotto’s works for the covers we know in English but you can see that he popped off <3)

But yeah as you can see with special editions 2 and 3, the art direction seems to be heavily inspired by Facciotto’s artstyle.

However, when Barbara Pellizzari’s works became the aesthetic poster child of the books’ brand, that was reflected in the illustrations and how their aesthetic changed, as seen in the main books and how they look currently, special editions 4-9, and the Treasure Seekers trilogy.

This new profile thing of the girls? This was done by Pellizzari (coloring was done by Flavio Ferron), and thus it became the main reference for how the girls look in the book’s illustrations.

And it’s not just in the general direction to the artists for how to draw the Thea Sisters, but also in the direction given to the colorists. Alessandro Muscillo was the colorist for the special edition books since book 1 and the Treasure Seekers trilogy, and you can see that the direction for the style varied through books 1-3, like maybe direction was experimenting with the mood the illustrations were to convey, beginning with the cartoony and bright colors of book 1, easing into the more grounded and layered palettes of books 2 and 3

Then book 4 was when they transitioned to using digital art /j

I jest, but seriously book 4 was the debut of the coloring style we end up keeping for the rest of the special editions and for all of Treasure Seekers, which is very… bright :D

(I would show more picture examples but I manually took pictures of my physical copies for the Cloud Castle and SotS illustrations and gwuh I’m too lazy to grab my entire collection just to take pictures,,)

Bright as in like… the colors are very defined and saturated. I dunno how to describe it, but when you see it, you get what I mean. It’s very bright and pretty and colorful and it stands out. There are still variations that happen on occasion (Star Fairies in particular uses a good dose of airbrush for the lighting and shadow effects, and Crystal Fairies looks like someone had a bit of fun using sparkle brushes), but other than that, it’s very bright. I don’t hate it, but I do acknowledge that yeah, if I was introduced to the series when it had fully transitioned to the new style, I never would’ve gotten into the series in the first place, because the older books had something that didn’t make it feel specifically catered to girls. The colors were bright, but not too bright. Colorful, but unified. They weren’t that complicated, and they didn’t have to be because the colorists (plural, there were at least 3 per book once upon a time) were popping the hell off with the colors they were given. But y’know, the newer books’ consistent style did give me a good spot to practice drawing mouse furries so I’m not complaining too much about the newer style, haha.

(Tiny baby E’s (it’s literally from 2020 what’re you on about mate) her first mouse Violet drawing using Barbara Pellizzari’s artstyle in Treasure Seekers 1 as an anatomy guide!!)

With that said tho, yeah I miss the old books -m- dunno if it’d fit the aesthetic of the special editions but m a n we could’ve had it and it probably would’ve looked cool

Also the illustrations go way harder in the older books, like Prince's Emerald? I've talked about Prince's Emerald and how it goes hard before, and I still stand by it and say that it does in fact still go hard

Maybe it won't fit the uh splash of color they gave the hardcovers, but imagine they grabbed Giulia Basile's coloring work for the graphic novels and used that as sort've a basis for the coloring style of the hardcovers. Not exactly the same-- would probably still add a touch of whimsical watercolor and/or paint to the very cel-shaded style, but we could've had something pretty dope -m-

Anyway that's my ramble simultaneously defending the hardcovers' artstyle and reminiscing on what could've been haha

Looking to see it’s Price’s name on the screen, he’s confused on why the captain is calling him so quickly after the taskforce has gone their separate ways for the night. Even when still on base everyone would at least take a day or so to themselves normally.

“Captain?” There is no way he’s already being called back in.

“You know what I was looking forward to tonight, Soap?” Price begins. This does nothing to alleviate Soap’s confusion. “Sleeping in my own damn bed.”

He sounds agitated, and Soap isn’t following on how he’s got anything to do with Price’s plan.

“So color me surprised when-no sooner than my head hits the pillow, thank you- Im getting a phone call that you’re roaming the medical wing stealing nurses.”

John Soap Mactavish sputters at the accusation. “I’m not stealing nurses.”

He can feel Price burning a hole in his head through the phone.

“Alright it was one nurse. And I didn’t steal her. She’s not a bloody toaster.”

“You literally tossed me over your shoulder in a fireman’s carry,” Honey protests. “He absolutely stole me, Price.”

“Her shift ended an hour ago. She wasn’t performing fucking CPR on someone. She was charting.”

Heyyo! Hope this ask reaches you well nwn. I have a couple hundred questions about ur art style and storytelling methods if you don’t mind :3

Most important one: How do you draw Mewtwo fingers so well 😭😭😭😭

Also, what program(s) do you use? Canvas size for different projects? What brush settings? And how do you sketch, line and colour? Which step is your favourite? How long do you normally take from piece to piece?

How do you come up with your different AUs? Any particular inspirations? What tips would you give someone just starting out a comic on tumblr?

And uhh any general tips on getting around tumblr? Blogs you really like?

Sorry for all these questions, really big fan if you can’t tell :’D I actually really love the pride art piece you did~

So i tried answering this before and it doesnt post so uhhhhh heres to hoping it works?

1. I base Mewtwo's paws as hands, worked without the rounded digits first then moved to rounded digits so... Take that as you will?

2. I use Clip Studio Art and Procreate! Mostly, anyways XD i also sometimes default back to Paint tool Sai, or Fire Alpaca if i want a different brand lol.

3. I vary in size for different projects. My animations are different than my sketches, my sketches are different from my completed art and my completed art is different for my comics! It also helps my brain not get tired XD

4. I tend to favor my lineart and rendering! Though both of them take equally long times, i render less But i love it more.

5. Depends on the project. I can typically churn out colored pieces in like an hour or so! Sketches are faster.

6. A lot of them are inspirations of something else. Shiny AU was just cause i liked Shiny Pokemon. But Dead AU was based off Danny Phantom and Mimikyu au was a "What if" scenario of the dead au!

7. Oop, Danny Phantom for the Dead AU. Legendary Mew was based off the whole Chosen one BS XD False Twins was slightly based off of TC but was actually based off another AU where Ash and Mewtwo were sorta close friends.

8. Tagging is your best friend~ don't be afraid to interact with other blogs. If someone is being mean, just block em and move on!

9. Getting around Tumblr? I'd say reblog, follow peeps, go to your favorite fandoms/tags! You'll get mutuals in no time!

10. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh a lot of peeps but i dont wanna bother then with tags XD so nontagged peeps!

So about my OC…

Still haven’t quite settled on a name but the placeholder for now is Asteri.

Some uhhhhh facts? About her?

She lives in Waterfall, she’s a linguist, and she likes baking. Though… it’s difficult given her lack of actual, permanent arms. She’s a shapeshifter… of sorts. The solidity of various parts of her body varies— sometimes her legs are solid, sometimes they’re in pieces, for example. (I just tend to draw them this way out of habit.) The green wing-arm things are less limbs and more like a cloak of magic.

Actually let me back up. So, this is, essentially, her “base form.” (Save for the hair, antennae, and “eyebrows.”) Think of clay. You can make all sorts of things, right? But you have a finite amount. You can take less, to make something smaller, but that leftover clay has to go SOMEWHERE, even if that just means it’s off to the side. The green wings are the magic that’s “off to the side,” which she keeps draped around her.

Technically, so is her tail, but she likes having it, so it stays as part of her. She can move the wings like arms, and even grab things, but there’s no fine motor control. It’s part of why she keeps the tail— it’s prehensile.

She can’t seem to keep arms, however. Not in this form, anyway. If she became a quadruped or something, she’d still have four legs… but no matter what she tries, arms just won’t stick in this, her preferred form. She can summon hands, but they stay green rather than solidify into lavender like the rest of her, and they’re sort of… drippy looking. They also will disperse back into the ambient magic of her wings over time or if she isn’t paying attention.

She can change color, but likes being pale purple. Not sure if the wings/ambient magic change color too. Uh let’s see… she prefers having the antennae rather than ears, (though sometimes she’ll switch, or have both), the “hair” and “eyelashes” are not part of her base form (which is bald, lol) so it’s an intentional design choice. It’s green on purpose, not because it hasn’t integrated into her form. It’s hard to show on the whiteboard but her wings are more like a sea foam green, but not her hair. Oh, and her “eyebrows” are like. Scales. Sorta. They still protrude and move like eyebrows, but it’s not hair, it’s scales/skin. Like how you’d put eyebrows on a dragon.

Originally, I intended for her eyes to actually be sockets/holes, like a skeleton, because it’s easier to have eye holes with eyelights than whole, functioning, vulnerable eyeballs. But I’m not sure on this just yet. I like the idea of her head actually being pretty minimal effort on her part: eye holes, barely a nose, basic mouth/jaw/ teeth without lips, etc etc.

Oh also she normally wears clothes but I’ve been trying to get used to drawing her, and then when I do she looks so cool… so I forget to draw the clothes ^^;; But yeah shirts are sorta difficult for her, but she tries her best. Pants are a bit too hard to wear, so she’s usually in a skirt or dress.

I’ll talk more about her job + interests in another post, this one is really long ^^;

Better art ask: What Brushes do you use?

uhhhhh oh fuck

well mostly i use csp and custom brushes from the asset store. for details and jewelry and blood splatters and more i kinda just go ham with a bunch of them. but as for brushes i use all the time unfortunately some arent available anymore :( but sure i'll show them

most lines i actually use this brush:

its more of a pencil but was in fact designed for lines. at a small size and on a large canvas you dont notice the texture that much it just gives it a lil smth smth. outside that i also use what im pretty sure is the default textured pen bc i just like my lines with a bit of texture.

for sketching i will use the standard colored pencil default brush

to get the basic shapes as it is pretty light to start off with and i dont want anything too detailed, before i move into

uhhhh this one i also can't find. i know its kind of a graffiti style marker supposedly (at least based on what i can read of the name tho i am illiterate rn given i am abt to pass out)

onto coloring--i will fill in colors with a standard hard-round/g-pen or the textured pen depending on what im coloring. and as for shading it is almost always

before fully moving to csp despite liking pretty much all of it more i struggled with coloring as i was deeply attached to the watercolor tool in csp. i tried and tried over and over to find a brush that worked the same and finally found one which was close enough. over the years i have tweaked it here and there. but when people say "i love your rendering!" it is almost always this bad boy doing most of the heavy lifting.

bad example but it can do hard or soft edges depending on the pressure. its soft, kinda transparent, and easy to control (for me anyways). you can also drag the colors around when blending which is helpful because i also use this to like. erase and redefine shadows too. i would link you but uhhhh i think i found this brush in. 2018-2019???? and i havent found it or the others mentioned unfortunately. problems that come with people deleting or privating brushes and also dling a bunch of them but i might have also changed it so much its not really the same thing anymore LMAO

also honorary mention for the standard round airbrush for gradients and to get very rough shading and form down. and also i will use the standard default colored pencil brush for highlights sometimes on skin or shiny fabric because i feel like it looks???? more realistic???? cause skin and fabric has texture. yknow.

Darling either has no pupils or changes their pupils. Like hearts for the Tsaritsa bc Tsaritsa's whole theme is hearts and stuff idk man its cute <3

I was tempted to give Darling freckles, but Tsaritsa already has heart freckles, so I just gave Darling a few lil moles on their face. They def have more elsewhere but I didn't feel like drawing that lol

I decided that Darling also has their shoulders showing bc idk man it's what my bisexual heart desired LOL uhm their pants should probably have a more extravagant pattern along with the rest of their outfit but drawing hard.

It'd probably be star patterned, little diamonds and stuff up along their pants maybe, and then I have a pattern from one of my ocs that i slapped on them in the second pic

As for the headpiece thing they got going on, I tried to base it off of that like Greek leaf headband thing that ppl had. It'd be gold colored and all that but it lowkey looks like kokomi's headpiece or whatever but sshshshshs its fine

I had the thought to give Darling angler fish vibes, didn't really work so I scrapped it for Darling and Tsaritsa being cute bc that's more important.

Darling having a little light on their neck maybe? maybe stealing that pearl from the divine traits brainrot but make it glow when Darling wills it to.

Oh Darling has fangs, they just do sorry I'm not taking criticism <3 but they're not as big as Tsaritsa's. Tsaritsa's fangs are so <3333 and Darling's not trying to step on Tsaritsa's toes.

Besides, Tsaritsa thinks its cute to see Darling's little bites. They're like a kittens compared to hers. Even if Darling draws a little blood Tsaritsa's not actually upset, she thinks its cute deep down.

oh i also attached some ribbons to the back of the lil leaf crown thing they got going on bc.... yeah....

All genshin characters have smth flowy on the back of them so i just threw that on them bc i thought it was neat. I think they might also have some on their hips and/or wrists but I didn't think of that until just now so oh well-

so uhhhhh I had a bunch of shit written out and then tumblr decided to be an absoloute ass and not save my draft but anyways this is a ronance au based off a story I’ve been slowly writing in my science notes (whole other story big problem it’s all in my science notes and literally nowhere else and if I lose said science notes I’m fucked). but anyways um harpy ronance au

so my Science Notes Story is about a scientist who is working at a lab where they are testing harpies and other supernatural Creatures who gets cursed by one of the harpies she’s been working specially with to become one of them as a sort of ‘get back and see how I feel’ sorta thing. The AU would follow the same sorta backstory,  with Robin having worked at the lab in Hawkins as a sort of intern who doesn’t really quite know what’s going on, but still manages to get close to one of the harpies they have who ends up bringing the curse on to her. Robin is, understandably, rather horrified at the situation, and narrowly escapes from the lab as a harpy, and sets out to try and survive in the wilderness without being found by the Hawkins lab people she had originally worked for. In the forests, however, she finds Nancy, a lone harpy who has no flock that she relies on (they were taken by the Hawkins Lab). Initially, Robin was just following her around for survival, but the two of them slowly grow fond of each other, and they band together to help Robin break the curse and free Nancy’s family. Uhhh half fluff half angst entirely impulse-driven story HWHDJDJ

Robin is, understandably, a European Robin (the curse is kinda very literal that way) ((also their coloring is very pretty and I just thought it was funny)). Nancy is based off of a sunbittern, a bird known for their defensive posture display of bright colors and for their trick of pretending to be injured to attract prey or distract predators.

I may turn this into a fic if I ever get inspired enough to? I have a few art pieces to share for this and I’ll probably make more and that fic of interest is high enough

Oh, I wouldn't say that L'arachel is my favorite Sacred Stones character. I DO like her a lot, but she's not my all-time favorite (or sadly even my favorite female character, that position strictly goes to my baby darling Neimi). But like I said, I like her a lot and I think she's the superior princess to Eirika.

But there's a lot of hit-or-miss going on with the outfit here. The wings? Gorgeous. But they don't need the loops at the end because that makes it feel artificial. The flower wrist gauntlets? Perfect, but make the pink petals more textured to look like actual petals! Make those shoulder loops look more like leaves. And the dress itself has no flower texture as well, this starts to fall into Elise and Lucina levels of incorporation issues. The outfit itself is a lovely groundwork overall, but there simply wasn't enough done to make it look more like nature.

The art itself I can see some pros and cons. The color is amazing, but the pose-work in the attack portrait feels underwhelming, not dramatic enough for L'arachel. And her eyebrows are kind of too thin which messes with the expression. It's not BAD art but I see where it could be improved. I think so far this is the only art this artist has done for the game.

That being said, Ljosalfheim fits L'arachel! But it's a shame they didn't hold off a bit until we got Vanaheim because THAT would have really fit as well.

Overall, Resplendent L'arachel is a 7.5/10. It has potential, but it needs work.

Ever start writing a thing and you realize you craft world building better then actually writing the like book of it all. Hi it’s me that’s me.

So uhhh have some of my weird vampire story world points. I have 2 chapters? Sure we’ll say 2 chapters. Written and I am just sort of messing with the story as I go.

Beyond vampire book I have a whole Dystopian world I mapped out with cities and a basic layout. A future dystopia world based in a color power system, that one isn’t as fleshed out beyond what the color system is. But uh here have the vampire hierarchy of the vampire world. With faces of celebrities that i feel fit the sort of look? Who i saw in my head? There’s more but like these are who I found first.

Im tagging Joseph Quinn and Jamie Campbell bower because they are face references for things so. It’s under a read more just scroll if ya don’t wanna be fucked with my stupid ass.

So the purgers are based on the vampires from 30 days of night meets the hydra super soldiers bucky talks about in civil war. Like the ones who can take our whole cities in a night. Yeah think them.

(The next are just job titles or hierarchy placements, mother and father hit the same in the ladder of the vampire world. Men can be ‘the mother’ women can be ‘the father’ NB are the same as ‘ya just end up in a job title’ and no one really calls themselves by there title it’s just a job name in the hierarchy)

The mothers: charismatic, very off putting caretakers of ‘the selected’ they have jobs in the other worlds of the vampires and men can be classified as ‘mothers’ just depends on how the vampire change hits them.

The fathers: same as the mothers but they tend to have jobs outside of the houses that the selected stay in. Some are allocators, some are food runners. And some work at those fun boring admin jobs. Again women can be fathers. It’s just a job title. Again depends on what happens when you finish the vampire change.

The leaders: you know the capitol from the hunger games? Yeah think that but vampire. The features are almost alien like, in a ‘did you have this face before you changed or did it happen after’ they are the leaders, the rulers, the ones who picked who is selected, the ones who control the purgers and the ones who you don’t wanna meet face to face cause you ain’t coming out of that meeting.

Yes the face claims? Include Julia fox and Madonna (circa her now where her face is just her face now) because they have that capital leader look. And tilda swinton has the ‘oh you were a LOTR elf in another life’ and Lawrence fishbern has a voice that just ‘yeah vampire leader’ don’t ask me why.

The selected: the MC of the story and thousands of others chosen by the vampire leaders for one reason or another, they live in complete isolation in basements or similar dark, underground almost rooms, for the 6 month long change. In that time, your teeth rot and fall out of your head, they grow back to be strong enough to rip a throat out along with other things, your nails get real strong, and for those 6 months you basically are alone, secluded, and get a cup of blood a day. It’s not fun but it could be worse.

Also for those 6 months the fun vampire tropes we love, aka can’t see yourself in mirrors, silver burns you, garlic is bad, that kind of thing. Yeah that happens and it’s not bad it’s just ‘why is vampire biology so fucking weird’

Uhhhhh yeah. Idk if you want to ask me things on the world I will happily tell you. But also, it’s my brain goo coming out like ‘sup’ so ya know trademark don’t steal my idea yada yada.

RIGHT, SO- going off of question number 8, in the UTMV, let's veer away from the Sanses real quick... Hear me out: Zinnia!Alphys!

Zinnia!Alphys is not a regular Alphys. She's still quiet and nervous, but she studies honey- and different kinds of honey. She also studies colors. She's an assistant to Zinnia!Mettaton with fashion because of her expertise on colors!

Zinnia!Alphys is pink like most zinnia flowers, and her spikes are incredibly flakey like that on the flower. Her eyes are a flakey yellow and her glasses are water droplets! She has a yellow and orange striped dress that's held together by a sticky honey she invented. She also loves to do her nails.

Zinnia!Undye has a fascination with bees and flowers, so when Zinnia!Alphys can, she tries to design a colorful bouquet for her friend, and they love to frolick in snowdin where tons of bluebells grow. Zinnia!Alphys her real love interest is the brave and gentle knight of the royal guard, Zinnia!Papyrus.

And quite possibly, Zinnia!Alphys has to team up with Zinnia!Toriel and Zinnia!Asgore to stop the villianous duo, Zinnia!Sans and Zinnia!Muffet.

I decided to include a little bit under the posts this year to kinda talk about the arts and stuff because it's fun and a lot of these have funny meanings sjsksnjsjaskak

ALSO some of them will inevitably have HSS spoilers because these are all based on sys shit and so is HSS so uhhhhh

You may be wondering why mr green man looks so different, it's just the funny little "nogard form" or a dark world form just + horns and ears because reasons (For context, Nogard is an extension of headspace that is just an entire planet with a ton of shit, like the "main four" alters (by main four I mean like, the alters who where prominent when we discovered we where a system so they're like, important? In Nogard's creation.) They have entire kingdoms. The Acid Jungle is Codi's, the Endless Abyss is Pearl's, the Sun's Ocean is KN's, and the Lunar Planes are Truth's. Kris was just basically made big boss of the whole thing (because nobody was confident enough to try to take them down from leader position that they gained by fucking murdering people lmao), so they just kinda watch over the entire world? It's crazy but like, I'm not going the one to piss them off so- /hj) it's also been setting to a bit of VATP content. That's probably where it's known idk when I've ever posted about it outside of that. And yes it's technically a dark world since the main people responsible for it's existence are Deltarune fictives)

So the main idea for this one is sort of a play on the prompt. Since it's gargoyle, the immediate reaction is to draw the whole damn dragon. But it goes deeper then that. Since Pearl (the dragon) was basically the first split tm made to literally fight people, she's like the ultimate protector. So running on that I decided to add the current protector also, who is Sal. (Pearl barely fronts anymore so even if she is a protector, she isn't THE protector.) There is actually another protector in sys but I didn't feel like drawing them. (LMAO get fucked.) For no reason more then I really just didn't feel like drawing a whole nother person.

And I thought it would be cool if it was scary so that's why there's a smile on the face screen thing

It really stands out. I think I was planning to make Pearl's eyes glow but haha oops that didn't happen oh well.

I really haven't drawn Pearl's big wof dragon form in a while. Though it is THE iconic appearance she takes on, she's not a direct fictive of any character, more of like, oc fictive? I've heard that can be a thing so there you go. She fits into the world but isn't an existing character. She also will be a cat. Just a cat
