ACE AND LUFFY AND IMPEL DOWN
Yes, hello, I am a youngest sibling and I am having a lot of feelings about these siblings and this arc
I am not sure why this specific panel from ch 534 has me so emotional about this but like-
Luffy is charging in to rescue his big brother.
Luffy knows that Ace wouldn't want Luffy to come rescue him.... But he's thinking of it as being because Ace has his own pride and his own adventures
This is from ch 490, right after they learn about vivre cards and see that Ace's is burning.
And again in 522 when Luffy hears about the scheduled execution.
Luffy trusts his big brother to manage on his own. His brother is strong, and capable, and doesn't need Luffy worrying about him.
It isn't until Luffy hears about the execution that he decides he needs to intervene.
(from ch 522)
And in all this, it doesn't even seem to OCCUR to Luffy that the reason Ace wouldn't want Luffy trying to rescue him is because Ace doesn't want him getting hurt.
(from ch 532)
For some contrast here is Ace, the first time we meet him all the way back in chapter 157. Looking for his baby brother.
Ace jumps in front of a punch that would have hit Luffy, deals with the guy doing the punching, thanks the crew for taking care of Luffy, invites Luffy and his crew to join the Whitebeard Pirates (even though he knows Luffy will say no), and gives Luffy his vivre card- with zero explanations about what it is!!! But he trusts that Luffy will keep it safe until he needs it! (And Luffy does!!)
(from ch 159)
Ace is looking out for his kid brother in every way he possibly can!!!
AND THEN!!!!! ACE SAYS THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(from ch 159- and echoed in Luffy's POV in that panel from ch 522!!!)
I am the baby in my family. My older siblings worry about me in ways I never learned to worry about them.
I will never forget the look on my older sister's face when we finally met up again after we got separated while running to catch a train. I realized that she didn't know if I'd even made it on, and worried about me the whole time, and was so relieved to see me safe.
Meanwhile, I had been pleased to make it on the train, and it hadn't even occurred to me to worry about her. She was my big sister, of course she'd be fine!!
It was jarring to realize that my big sister had been looking out for me so seriously this whole time, and that maybe now we were grown up it was also my job??? To look after her?????
Luffy has these same younger sibling vibes all over him- Zoro agrees.
(from ch 159)
I'm reading this arc for the first time and I only know a little about what's what's coming but this relationship is already so incredibly real and so incredibly heartbreaking. I'm not ready.
In conclusion, this panel from chapter 522 is filled with so much love, and I'm entirely fine about it!!!!!!!

Departure Darkside: A Possible Illusion
I've already shared a bit of my piece on Sora being tricked into opening the door on Destiny Islands (x) but now I'd like to discuss the likelihood that Sora and Riku fought during Departure but neither were aware of it.
Also, was the Riku we saw in Departure even Riku at all? If so, it makes how Sora gained the Kingdom Key even more curious but I'm sorry to say I don't have all the answers.
Okay, let's get started.
What got me wondering about this was this scene in COM.
Riku recognizes the purple clouds and destroyed island which happens after he supposedly disappears. I'll discuss why it might not even have been him after I address the fight.
"Look. Look at what you really are," says a guy gifted in illusions and he shows a Darkside similar to the one that Sora fought.
Right after Riku defeats the Darkside that Zexion claims is him, Sora comes out of nowhere and attacks Riku.
Riku is now standing where the Darkside was.
In the RE:COM version, it's even more interesting.
He's standing where Sora was in KH1.
They've reversed (haha very funny) their positions from the original game so now Sora is where the Darkside was.
Now, normally I'd brush this off as coincidence but...there's a pattern of illusions being used I'm afraid.
Darkness pretended to be Ava which results in Strelitzia's death and Ventus being tricked into taking a role that isn't his.
We even got the "chosen one" having their place taken and Ventus stating that Ava gave him the rulebook rather than him taking it.
The Organization tricked Xion and Roxas into fighting each other by making the other appear as a Heartless to the other.
This scene always stood out to me because...I wasn't aware they could do this whenever they wanted without Namine/Ava OR Zexion's help. It opens a whole can of worms for me because they certainly WOULD do this if capable.
Ansem SOD was already shown in his own form before this but somehow manages to appear as Riku in order to lure Sora.
Which brings me to this part. In Data Riku's memory bank, we see a hidden memory of Riku walking around the isles appearing like it is in the first scene I discussed above. He's walking past the tree to the area the battle takes place.
Then we see Ansem SOD open a Dark Corridor which Riku is implied to go through and later wakes up at Hollow Bastion like Xehanort woke up in Scala ad Caelum in KHDR.
Now, this clearly doesn't seem to line up with the fight reading nor the original scene that we see in Departure involving Riku where he supposedly disappears right after.
It could be that it was a Data Riku version of events so it's slightly altered to fit that Data doesn't dream. We do see them use dreams as a way of creating illusions in 3D. But...y'know, plausible deniability.
There's always more than meets the eye. The timeline of events isn't clear at all once you start noticing something is off.
And something is VERY off.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this! Hopefully, I made you consider some new possibilities around Departure with this post or my other one linked at the top. Even if your thoughts aren't exactly what I'm thinking, it's good to theorize about this portion of KH1 because Sora states he had a strange dream upon waking up in Traverse Town and I think we dismissed that a bit too easily at the time.

also I keep finding new types of guys I like so. I don't think they're gonna run out lol. i love that about life! There is always a new guy you could never conceptualise or see in your mind until you're seeing it and you go. hello. him. I want him. This is the first time I've seen them but I can just tell that knowledge of his existence was missing in my life.
