Summary: Hokusai is completely in love with you, and while the rest of AKYR can see it, they don't think you can. So they tell him that actions speak louder than words.

Hokusai is definitely a man of few words. Everyone in Akanyatsura can attest to that. But they also knew that his actions spoke louder than words. And of course, it was no secret to them when he started seeing you more often, that he was infatuated with you. He was always helping you with your chores and hanging out with you, indulging your every whim. And it was so painfully obvious to his Akanyatsura brothers, that some were getting annoyed with his behavior.

"You're going out with them again?" Reo whined as he flopped dramatically onto the table in their living space.

Hokusai nodded. "They asked me to visit. I won't be gone long."

"You say that every time." Satsuki pouted. "And yet you stay out for hours on end with them."

"It's like we don't even exist to you anymore!" Reo cried and wiped fake tears from his eyes.

Hokusai simply watched his brothers, slightly confused. He didn't think he spent that much time with you. Sure, he has been seeing you more often, but that was because you both wanted to. And he was still for Akanyatsura when Iori needed him. He definitely was not shirking his responsibilities. So he had no idea why they were acting like this.

Iori hummed to himself. "Well, I think it's sweet. I think it's about time this family expanded."

"What are you talking about?!" Zen sputtered, which in turn made Iori chuckle.

"I'm simply saying another member of the group would be just fine to me. I'm not implying I would replace any of you; believe me, you're all irreplaceable, but one more person in this family is just what we need I think."

Zen let out a sigh. "I see. Forgive me for jumping to conclusions."

"You need to get your mind out of the gutter, my friend." Iori grinned as Zen blushed.

"But that all depends on if Hokusai actually invites them to join our family!" Reo stated as a matter of fact. "And we all know he won't do that!"

Hokusai tilted his head in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"It's obvious!" Satsuki replied. "You're not very good with words, least of all when they're supposed to be romantic. We all know the two of you are going to be dancing around your feelings for ages. And the rest of us are going to have to suffer because of your pining."

"I don't make you suffer." He shot back. "And I don't need words to be romantic. You know actions speak louder than words."

"But are they receiving the message you are trying to convey through your actions?" Zen asked, then held his hands up in surrender. "I mean no offense, but sometimes people aren't perceptive to action and need to be told."

Hokusai thought for a moment before he shrugged. "I hope so. But if they weren't, I wouldn't even know what to say to tell them my feelings."

Iori shook his head. "We can't help you with that. Those words need to come from you and your heart. You can do this, I know you can."

He slowly nodded. "Alright. I'll try."

Smiling and nodding, Iori shooed him out the door. "Now go! They're waiting for you!"

Again, Hokusai nodded before leaving the Akanyatsura house. It didn't take him long to get to the park right outside of your apartment building. You both loved hanging out there, whether it was by walking around the pond together, climbing the trees, or finding stray cats to play with. But he knew as he sat on your favorite bench that today would be different. He was going to try and tell you just how much you meant to him and how much he cared about you. He just needed to find the right words.

"You look lost in thought." Your soft voice lightly teased him. "What's on your mind, Hokusai?"

He shook his head. "Nothing. How are you?"

"I'm fine." You nod. "Better now that you're here."

He smiled. "That's good to hear."

You sat next to him, your shoulder barely brushing his. He was thankful you enjoyed just sitting in silence with him. With you there was no pressure to speak. He could just sit there and enjoy the day with you next to him. Perhaps this was how he confessed to you. Not with his words, but with his actions.

"Wow, this is more boring than I thought it was going to be." A whisper catches his attention. Hokusai glances at you, but you don't seem to have noticed the whisper.

"Well, it is Hokusai we're talking about." If he didn't know any better, he'd say that sounded like Satsuki...

Casually looking around, Hokusai finally noticed Satsuki and Reo failing to hide behind a tree. He glared at them, but that didn't stop them from staring and teasing the two of you. He thought he would be left alone with you. But apparently he thought wrong. He just hoped Iori didn't ask them to come spy on him like an overprotective older brother.

Due to his focus being on the two younger members of Akanyatsura, he didn't notice you at all. And how your focus had shifted to him and the boys hiding behind the tree. He didn't notice you hiding a chuckle behind your hand.

"You think he forgot what he told Aniki earlier?" Satsuki loudly whispered to Reo. "That he said he was going to confess to them?"

Reo shook his head. "Maybe he did. He's obviously not going to make a move. He would have done it by now."

"Yeah, he's had more than enough time now to tell them how much he loves them!"

Hokusai grit his teeth. If he wasn't worried about making a scene in front of you, he would totally beat the two of them up right now. But when you tapped on his shoulder stopped him from getting up and having a little "chat" with his younger AKYR brothers.

"Are you alright?" You ask, with a sweet smile on your lips.

He hesitates before nodding. "I'm okay."

Your smile widens as you shake your head. "No, you're not. I can tell you're not. Those boys over there are giving you a hard time, aren't they?"

Again he nods.

"Thought so. And if I didn't know any better, it almost sounded like they said something about you being in love with me?" Your smile was teasing and Hokusai could feel his cheeks turn red at your words.

"I- maybe. I mean, yes, I do." He mumbled.

Your smile only continued to widen. "Well, that's good to know. But it's crazy of them to think we weren't already dating. I mean, we've been together for a couple months now, at least!"

"W-we have?"

You nod. "The way you've acted around me proves how much you care about me and how much you want to be around me. You've more than proven yourself to be a worthy boyfriend. So you don't need to come up with some elaborate confession plan. I'm already yours."

He felt the tension in his shoulders ease and a smile stretched across his face. "And I'm yours."

"That's good to know." And with that, you leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. He responded by pulling you closer, his hand cupping your face. It was absolutely perfect.

"GET A ROOM YOU TWO!"

"SATSUKI KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT OR YOU'LL RUIN THE MOMENT!"

Plus, if you're on the shyer side, it's cute to see you get flustered about it. Hello, can I request hcs of Allen, Kanata, and Hokusai that dreaming or hoping of having family with reader after seeing them look after the children?

Allen Sugasano:

Allen tended to just be struck with sudden inspiration, and it was the same with his visions for the future. He had never previously thought about having a family yet the second he sees you sitting with little ones, teaching them the joys of music, helping them express themselves, how could he think about anything else? He doesn’t know how to bring the topic up, and perhaps he’s being hasty about confessing he wanted a child after one interaction, but he found it hard to hold back when it came to you. If anything, he wanted to make sure to bring a child into the world who will feel like they can truly be themselves, and even if it meant adoption rather than physically having a baby, he just wanted to foster an environment where he can protect a child’s vision of the future.

Hokusai Masaki:

Hokusai had first observed the way you were with his brothers, sympathetic to Satsuki getting clowned on, affectionate to Reo who loved you like you were part of the family too. You fit like a perfect puzzle piece, and he would be lying if he said that wasn’t the beginning of his thoughts of having your own family. Watching you cradle cats in your arms, cooing at them, rubbing their bellies and occasionally lounging with them in the son was the second thing. The third was when you helped AKYR with school kids doing a community project, perfectly comfortable talking to each little one and darting around as you were needed. It filled him with thoughts of the future, of having your own little ones clinging to your side, and Hokusai whispered his thoughts in your ear when you were alone with such fondness you couldn’t help but envision it yourself.

Kanata Yatonokami:

Kanata had been doomed by a dream. He wasn’t one to think about having a family like that in the future, all he ever needed was you and Nayuta and that left him content. But his dream is plagued after seeing you play with other street kids, kids who didn’t have parents and who rarely got to have fun having a moment where they could forget their worries and just be kids. You had expressed your worries about them, wanting to consistently find a way to deliver them hot meals, and Kanata had agreed to help due to how compassionate you were about it. He wondered if he and Nayuta would have accepted your kindness or seen it as pity, but adoption floats through his mind as he thinks about sheltering some of those kids from the hardships he once went through.

🍊 REO MARUYAMA

You were laid on the veranda of Akanyatsura's house, scrolling through your phone quietly. As you ignored the usual bickering from Reo and Satsuki, that's when a video caught your eye.

You lifted yourself up from your lying position and called for your boyfriend who didn't seem to hear you the first time.

"Reo~" you called again.

"Hmm~? What's up, (Y/N)?" he answered finally.

"Can you peel me an orange?" you asked him, clapping your hands together cutely. "Please~?"

"Eeeeh?" was his initial reaction. He didn't understand why you had suddenly asked him to do this. You could do it yourself, no? You've been visiting the family for a while now, so it shouldn't be awkward of you to just waltz into their kitchen to grab a snack.

He chuckled, then said, "(Y/N), are you still scared to go around the house without me?"

"Huh? No, it's not that–"

"You're so cute!" he laughed. "Okay, let's go to the kitchen~!"

He grabbed your hand and led the way. Your face was sewn with confusion and embarrassment because yes, you were scared to go around the house before, but you weren't uncomfortable about it now! Even Reo knew of this!

"Ah, here!" he chirped. "An orange!"

He plopped it into your hands. You stared at it, utterly perplexed. Before you could ask him to peel it for you though, he was already gone.

You returned to the veranda where Reo was now playing on the grass with the cat Hokusai borrowed from Bar 4/7. He looked undeniably cute, and you really did want to join him, but the fruit in your hands made you hang back.

You sat back down, looking at the orange on your lap. You sighed, thinking that you should try asking him again next time when he wasn't so preoccupied. As you dug a nail into the skin, Reo ran up to you.

"(Y-Y/N)!" he cried.

"R-Reo, what's wrong?"

"I was going to ask you the same thing!"

He is SO confusing today, you thought.

"Hokusai said that you looked sad, so I came to see what's wrong. (Y/N), are you alright?"

He sat down beside you as close as he can get, caressing your hand in a way to comfort you.

"I'm fine," you replied with a lighthearted chuckle. "I guess... I just wanted you to peel me an orange..."

"Huh?" he said. "I don't get it... you already have it in your hands!"

"But you'd still do it for me, right?" you asked slowly.

He smiled at you, pinching your cheek.

"Is that what you wanted me to do?" he laughed.

"Well yeah, I said that to you earlier...!"

"You did...? Oh, right! Sorry!" he exclaimed, genuinely feeling apologetic. "I thought you just wanted me to accompany you to the kitchen– Sorry– Here, give me that! Of course I'll peel an orange for my cutie!"

You watched him peel the orange effortlessly – it was a quick process too. He smiled at what he accomplished, taking a piece off the fruit and then hovering it in front of your lips.

"Say ahhh~" he sang.

You giggled before repeating, "Ahhh~"

He placed the fruit in your mouth and you started chewing.

"How does it taste, (Y/N)?" he asked curiously.

"It tastes nice!" you replied. "Thanks, Reo."

"Hehe, I'm glad."

He pulled out another piece and plopped it into his mouth. When the two of you finished eating the orange together, you joined in with Hokusai and Satsuki in the sun as the four of you played with the cat together.

🍊 HOKUSAI MASAKI

Without a doubt, Hokusai is overly affectionate towards his partner. He would treat them like a cat, petting their heads and praising them for the little things they do. He was happy whenever you were happy so when you had asked him to do this little task for you, he was already gone to do it.

"Alright. I'll be right back."

You didn't even need to ask him to peel you an orange anyway. You could just tell him you were craving a snack, and he would just get it for you. So this test of yours was pretty redundant.

Hokusai returned with a bowl of the fruit you had asked for, but it was inadequately peeled.

"I'm sorry," he stated. "I tried, but the skin was hard. It was difficult to peel."

"That's okay!" you chirped, taking the bowl from him. "Thank you, Hokusai."

"Mm. Anything for you, (Y/N)," he smiled, patting your head gently. "Tell me how it tastes."

You nodded, putting a piece in your mouth before chewing it. You smiled at how sweet it was which Hokusai caught on.

"It's sweet," you said. "Here, try some!"

You pulled out a slice as he opened his mouth. He took it in between his teeth and started munching. He nodded in agreement to your statement that it was sweet, smiling ever so softly.

"(Y/N), if you need anything else, just tell me, okay?"

The affection in his voice will always make you melt. "Mhm, thank you," you said. "I appreciate it, Hokusai, truly."

And with that, he pecked you on your forehead. The two of you resumed your afternoon together outside, basking in the sun, with your head on your boyfriend's shoulder.

You sighed, but resumed the game with him. You led most of the conversation, but because Satsuki was so attentive towards you, he still kept you well entertained albeit awkwardly.

"Satuski," you said suddenly.

"Y-Yeah?"

"Can you grab me an orange?"

He was visibly confused, but didn’t question it. If his partner wanted an orange, he was going to get that orange!

“Okay!”

He got up and left the room. You continued with the game, waiting for your boyfriend’s return.

“Here, (Y/N),” he said as he entered the room again.

"Thank you, Satsuki!" you chirped happily. "Can you please peel it for me? I'm pretty busy at the moment!"

“O-Of course!” he exclaimed, fidgeting with the orange. He didn’t really do a good job at it as he peeled the skin bit by bit, but he got the job done.

“I’m done…!” he sighed out victoriously. “(Y/N), here!”

You smiled up at him, a smile so cheeky that even he wasn’t oblivious to it.

"W-What?"

"Feed me!"

"WHAT?!"

"Well, I obviously can't feed myself. My hands are busy!" You motioned him to look at the controller in your hands. "Please, Satsuki~?"

You were teasing him and he knew it. He also knew that you could just pause the game at any given time to eat your orange, but if that's what you wanted then...

Satsuki sat down beside you, pulling a piece out from the fruit. Shyly, he aimed for your mouth, quivering a little. Once it was close enough, you ate it, chewing on it happily.

"Hehe, thanks!" you beamed.

Satsuki was sweating, but most of all, blushing like crazy. Sure, the two of you have been a couple for the longest time, but he still can't get over the fact that he's yours. It still makes him nervous – you still make him nervous.

"More, please!"

Satsuki did as he told until the orange was no more. When you finally paused the game, you turned to him.

"Gotcha!" you exulted, pointing at him. "My plan worked. You're finally sitting next to me!"

Upon realisation, Satsuki's face turned redder than before.

"(Y-Y/N)...! I can't believe you did that...!"

"And I also can't believe you fed me," you giggled. "You're sweet, Satsuki... just like that orange~"

Everyone in the group was well aware as to how naughty and mischievous Y/N could be. It's one of the reasons why she gets along so well with the guys. With a small cake sitting in front of them, an impulsive thought came over her. The cake was for funsies anyways and she doubted everyone would still eat the remainder if the cake after what she felt like doing.

Y/N reached up to gently run her fingers through Iori's hair. He welcomed this with soft hum. His little brother's giggling at their older brother being what we now call a simp. Then she held the back of his head and roughly pushed it down to the cake. Everyone froze at what they were doing ans Y/N's mouth was open in shock.

It took Iori a good few seconds to recover from what just occurred to him. Who did what to him.

To be fair, at least Satsuki thought Iori was going to be upset and say you went far this time. Though inside he was cackling so hard. Iori used both his hands to wipe some cake away from his eyes so he could at least look at the culprit. He finally smiled at Y/N and told her to come close, who quickly backed away.

"Awww what happened? Don't want to give your yummy fiance a kiss now?" Iori teased.

On full alert, Y/N was ready to bounce. "NO thank you!"

Too late, Iori caught the love of his life in his arms and gave her lots of smooches on the top of her HAIR! Y/N wouldn't stop squealing and failed at pushing her fiance away. Her squeals quickly turns into cute giggles, joing Iori's own fits of laughter. Indicating she's enjoying this just as much as him.

The younger boys were unsure if they could laugh, but Zen's shocked laughter joins the couples. This eases the others as they join in on the laughter. It was yet another normal day at the AKYR estate.

"How's about we go take a shower together, my girl?" Iori whispered in your ears.

You glared at his smirk and was grateful the guys were too busy trying to salvage the remainder of the cake to notice your blush. Though, you did not disagree to the invitation.

He smiled. "Well, he told me to do the "Nyan" pose..." You went dumbfounded and speechless after he answers that. God, why does it become much worse than you thought is beyond you. Hokusai, who stands awkwardly in front of you, trying to do the pose he mentions nervously.

real quick! : i use she/her pronouns for mizu in this. if this is triggering for you, which i completely understand if it is, then please don’t proceed.

≈ she most definitely owns a cat. mizu is one of those pet owners whose animals reflect their personalities. her cat will tolerate some and scamper away from the rest of those who dare try to pet them. the feline avoids taigen, is chill with akemi, and pretends to hate ringo (she purrs as soon as he walks into her apartment, but she does so with a grumpy face).

≈ surprisingly, the fur baby let you scratch her under her chin when you first came over- which, believe me, mizu noted.

≈ has a butterfly knife.

≈ can do extremely elaborate tricks with it -are we surprised-

≈ one time taigen tried to copy her and it ended with him slicing a finger open and almost flinging the knife into his face.

≈ there’s a blood stain on the rug in mizu’s living room, and whenever taigen brags she’ll just silently point at it to humble his ass.

≈ also has a fish. specifically a beta fish. they’re solitary and will fight others if kept together, and i think mizu would find some kind of kinship with a little angry beta fish.

≈ no, her cat doesn’t try to eat her fish. everyone is convinced that the three beings in the mizu household can read each others minds.

≈ this idea isn’t squashed when you eventually move in, because three simply becomes four, and you all move around each other and communicate perfectly without so much as a look. it’s freaky, and taigen, akemi, and ringo will watch them in silence trying to figure it out.

≈ she wears those giant bermuda-cut jean shorts. akemi hates them, which just makes mizu love them more. she loves seeing her face scrunch up with disgust when they meet up.

≈ gym girlie gym girlie gym girly-

≈ girl’s got a snatched waist, it’s not faaaaiiiirrrr-

≈ definitely has tattoos, and everyone of them is meaningful. there’s a teeny tiny pheonix at the nape of her neck, a dagger on her ankle for swordfather, and a Hokusai wave trailing down her bicep that she gets extended every now and again.

≈ speaking of the wave tattoo, mizu has a deep seated love for the ocean. as in, she’ll never tell anyone outright, but if the group is anywhere near the beach for the day, mizu disappears. they find her via taigen (he has her location under the guise of knowing where to find her body if she gets killed), and she’s waist deep in the waves, just kinda meditating.

≈ she doesn’t get visually cold. like, cmon, sis was wandering around in the snow and sporting a little red nose. she doesn’t complain, doesn’t shiver, and her teeth don’t chatter.

≈ that is, unless you’re close to her.

≈ she’ll allow herself to be babied after putting up a fight (ahem ringo) but a bitch will melt if you fret over her.

≈ factory reset when you try to warm her hands up by cupping them in yours and breathing on them.

≈ taigen will gag if you both show pda, and mizu will threaten death.

≈ this woman has enviable fashion sense. off duty model vibes, even though she’s not trying.

≈ favors baggy clothes, and likes a more androgynous appearance.

≈ that being said, the eyeliner on her slays. just as sharp as her sword, and she’s got ariana grande skills when it comes to applying it.

≈ rbf all the way. most people think she hates them (she does, but she’ll never confirm it) because her default expression is stern.

≈ i think she’d wear rings. all kinds- she likes to twist them when she’s thinking.

≈ if she were to go to college, i feel like she’d pursue some kind of history degree or art history and specify in either japanese military history or traditional art (im projecting-)

Will You Be My Valentine? - AKYR + AMPRULE

Hokusai Masaki:

Hokusai realized, almost too late, that he had to actually ask you to be his valentine for you to know that you were his. He had been going based off your relationship, the closeness you had making him logically arrive at the conclusion that you were his valentine, but he was informed that it was not the way it worked. When he had gone to seek you out he found you anxious and shuffling on your feet, surprised that you felt so nervous about asking him to be your valentine when he had already made that choice long ago.

Iori Suiseki:

Iori had suspected you were up to something but had patiently sat back, not one to assume but certainly knowing what was on your mind. You still managed to surprise him with a homemade gift as well as asking him to be yours for Valentine’s Day, the genuine smile on his face and his laughter filling the room the best gift you could’ve asked for. He wrapped you in a hug, pulling you as close as he could before letting you know he had already made plans for the two of you. If asked on why he didn’t make the first move he just laughed again, saying it was always pleasant to be the one pursued (and that he’d make your efforts worthwhile, in the end).

Reo Maruyama:

Reo winked, flirted, and accepted all gifts tossed his way on Valentine’s Day. Someone with his charm was used to all of this attention, but it could get exhausting after constant stimulation from others for hours on end. Plus, it never felt quite as special as a valentine really should, which he never realized until he had someone solid in mind that he wanted as his valentine. He’s glad that you’re the one who asked because it meant he could hide how in love with you he was (since he considered making the first move, which he certainly doesn’t do for just anyone), and he immediately rattled off all the things he wanted to do on that day with you since he hadn’t stopped thinking about it since the month began.

Satsuki Ito:

Satsuki cuts you off QUICK, on his knees like he’s groveling as he held your hands tight and began to sweat. There’s an awkward pause as you wait for him to explain the feral yell that was torn from his throat but it seemed he needed another minute to think, perhaps regretting his hasty reaction. He had to be the one to ask, after all, but the courage didn’t suddenly appear like he hoped it would. He does manage to stutter out the question because he’s not a quitter, but he won’t make eye contact, especially not after Reo asks why it looked like he was proposing.

Zen Gaho:

Zen is fighting to hide how hot his face is growing, touching his own burning hot cheeks and wondering how he got lucky enough to attract your attention. After pining away for you for who knows how long, finally having the confirmation that you felt the same for him was almost too much to bear. You cradle his face in your hands as he started to tear up, refusing to actually let them fall as he didn’t want to ruin the mood but he couldn’t help how overwhelmed with emotion he was. He would make this your most romantic Valentine’s Day yet!

AMPRULE

Chungsung Baek:

Chungsung is pleasantly surprised, licking his lips at the homemade gift you hand to him after asking him to be your valentine. While he doesn’t presume he’ll have any free-time on that day, much like he doesn’t most days as he attends to his master, he’s still flattered that you asked. He supposed he could carve out some of his own personal time while Dongha was busy to spend with you, not quite an official date but there were a few meals he could whip up that the two of you could enjoy together. He’s never pursued a relationship like this but he’s excited to see where it may lead.

Dongha Yeon:

You had debated on even asking Dongha as it didn’t seem like something he’d be interested in, but you had done stupider things to get his attention before so you thought you might as well. He’s actually quite surprised to hear the question, to have such a blatant act of affection thrown in his face like this leaves him frozen. Did you want something from him? Surely being seen with the Yeon heir would do wonders for you, but your stuttered out ‘date plan’ only consisted of spending time together indoors watching movies… What did you want from him? He accepted, because he certainly couldn’t have you asking someone else to be your valentine, and he’d simply have to probe you later to find out what your motives were.

A strong burst of wind made you pull tightly on the blazer you were wearing. It was too big for you, making it easy for the cold to slip under and bite at your skin. However, it all disappeared once you pushed the doors open and entered CLUB CANDY.

The heat, the sweet smell of perfume and the buzzing noise all hit you at once, and you paused for a couple of seconds before walking down the hall.

“Welcome to CLUB CANDY, how can we—” Zen politely greeted while tapping at the monitor on the reception desk. When he finally looked away from the screen, his business smile gave way to a wide and tilted one. “How may we serve you today, milady?”

“I’ll just have a drink at the bar while I wait for you.”

“Very well, a great decision as always, milady.” Zen winked at you. Even if he had to keep his professional persona on, he found subtle ways to adjust it to you. “I believe you know the way?”

“Oh, if only I could have such a handsome young man to guide me,” you played along, placing a hand on your sternum. “It’s such a pity you cannot leave the hall.”

“I’ll be done quickly,” he whispered leaning towards you. “I believe our staff will keep you safely entertained.”

“Yeah? Well, I prefer the private show we’ll have later,” you winked to punctuate the breathy invitation. If you didn’t know Zen like you did, you would’ve said he had no reaction. However, the fervent pink colouring his cheeks told you otherwise.

You said your goodbyes and advanced to the inside of the club.

“You’re gonna have to stop coming here if you refuse to work for the club,” Iori joked as you swirled the contents of your drink.

“You don’t have to shield me, Iori.” Everyone there knew he was the boss. If not, they hadn’t come enough times to the Club. But his pride was mostly made of regulars.

“I’m being serious here, I keep catching customers looking this way. You’re making us lose money.” He tutted, but that didn’t hide the sombre tone in his voice. You knew better than to interpret Iori at face value.

“And how am I making you lose money, exactly?” Still, you played along, wanting to play his game and push back a little. You had gotten used to his ways after dating Zen for so long.

“You distract Zen.” His tone was flat, but that didn’t prevent the heaviness from seeping through. He turned to look at you, no trace of his usual foxy smile on his face.

“He’s just in the hall.” Your words sounded hesitant. It was the only thing you could come up with as a response, and you couldn’t tell if he was serious or if he was pulling your leg.

“It’s important.” Iori held your gaze, his face unchanging.

“I’m sure he’s doing his job well.” You felt a surge of pride and confidence in your words. You knew Zen, you trusted Zen. He was the most responsible person you knew.

“You’re not getting my point.” Iori sighed, breaking the eye contact, sliding on his seat a little bit, and leaning his back to the bar. “You could’ve waited for him at home with Reo and Hokusai.” He shook his head as if to highlight the wrong of your actions. “I’ll admit your plan works, though.”

“Plan? What plan?” You blinked with confusion, turning a little bit more to look at him, but he wasn’t looking your way.

“That’s his blazer, am I right?” He looked at you sideways for a brief moment and then continued looking over the room.

Iori offered you a knowing smile, and you pouted while feeling tinier than before under the garment.

“I’m not complaining, it goes well with the little black dress you’re wearing, too.” He continued, raising his eyebrows. “It does highlight your legs even more.” Iori looked down at your exposed skin, and for the first time, you felt the shadow of something dark lurking behind his eyes. “And I’m sure Zen would agree, you look tiny and adorable.” When he looked back at your face, you recognised the fond look he usually gave you, like a family member who approved of you. You relaxed under it, feeling comfortable with the familiarity. “Well, then, I’ll be on my way.” With that, Iori got up from the seat and walked around, joining some tables briefly.

You looked at your phone. Zen would be with you any moment now.

“Mind if I sit next to you, gorgeous?”

You froze when you heard the unfamiliar voice, punctuated with an uncalled-for compliment. Now you were kind of regretting saying Iori didn’t have to shield you. It was uncanny, how the bartender had just left to the backroom a few moments ago, leaving you alone at the bar.

“She doesn’t work here.” Your vision was suddenly filled with a black vest, as Satsuki stood between you and the stranger. You couldn’t see Satsuki’s face, but you could hear the meaning behind his words.

“The more reason to keep her company,” the stranger pressed back. The way he spoke drove a chill from you.

You saw the change in Satsuki’s stance and went to grab a hold of his vest before he could do something Iori wouldn’t want for the business. However, before you could grab him, you felt Satsuki relax.

“I am afraid our opening hours are coming to a close, here, gentleman.” Zen’s voice sounded as calm and conciliatory as ever as he placed a hand on Satsuki’s shoulder and massaged briefly. You could see the side of his face over Satsuki’s frame, but he kept his eyes trained on the stranger.

Only when the customer left reluctantly, muttering something offensive, Zen turned to you.

“You can go on to tidy up, Satsuki.” Zen dismissed him, his face relaxing and showing the tiredness he was feeling. “You’re done, right?” He pointed to your drink, and you nodded. It was all he needed to enclose your shoulders with one arm and lead you outside.

You used the back door, and once both of you were in the narrow alley, he let go of you.

“Are you okay?” He sighed, his eyebrows furrowing. The contrast between the stifling heat of the Club, and the chilliness of the night air drew a shiver from you. Zen took one of your hands with his, and briefly pressed the back of his other palm to your cheek. Your skin was warm, but somehow his hands were always warmer.

“Yeah, Satsuki was there before anything could happen.” You showed him a small smile, no teeth. “He makes a great guard dog for the Club.” You chuckled lightly. Maybe it was Satsuki’s shyness that made him want to protect the people working there.

Zen stepped towards you and placed his hand on the back of your head, leaning down to kiss your forehead.

“I should’ve been there,” he sighed against your hair, pulling you close to his chest. You grabbed the back of Zen’s shirt, basking in his warmth.

“It was okay, really, Zen. Nothing happened.” You looked up at him and he took the chance to lean down and press a chaste kiss to your lips.

“Okay.” He rubbed his face roughly as if to let go of the tiredness of the day. “Do you want to go to one more bar?” He suggested, a hopeful smile tugging on his lips. You raised your eyebrows in a silent question. That’s not exactly the reaction you had been wanting to get from him when you came to the Club. “I must confess, you look really good in that outfit.” He took a step away from you and leaned his head to the side slightly, tracing your form with his eyes and licking his lower lip unconsciously. “I want to show you off.”

You chuckled, embarrassed, which made Zen blink quickly.

“Does that make you uncomfortable? I didn’t mean it in a—”

“I thought you didn’t want anyone to see me when you got… you know, jealous?” You smiled playfully. Maybe your plan hadn’t been a failure after all.

“I don’t want anyone to see you alone. If I’m by your side, I can protect you. And make sure everyone knows we’re together.” He took a step towards you, prompting the same from you. He took hold of the lapels of the blazer, looking at you with sparkly eyes. “Although I still love the idea of being the only one who has seen you like this.” He gave you a sheepish smile, that you took from his lips as he leaned down and you joined in a slow, deep kiss.

You grabbed the sides of his face, keeping him in place until you were satisfied. When you broke the kiss, you were sure you had the same dazed look on your face that Zen was sporting.

“Let’s go then.” You intertwined your hand with his and started walking to the end of the alleyway.

The bar ended up being one of the only shops whose opening hours went past CLUB CANDY’s. It was small and dimly lit, but the atmosphere was strangely cosy and calm. It didn’t look anything like the Club.

There were few people there, and all seemed regulars, but not in the same way the regulars at CLUB CANDY acted. It makes sense, you thought. They were different types of shops after all.

You sat down at a small table in a corner which seemed made for just one person, and with Zen there, it looked even more ridiculous. But it made the distance between you smaller, and you liked that proximity. Most people at this hour sat down at the counter to idly chat with the bartender, and the intimate atmosphere seemed to thicken where you were.

Zen went to order drinks, and you took the chance to take off the blazer. When he came back with a glass in each hand, he gave you a cheeky smile.

“Hello there stranger.” He sat down, pushing one of the drinks towards you. “May I buy you a drink?” He winked, and you smiled knowingly. If he wanted to play, you’d play.

“Sorry, I have a boyfriend.” You cocked your head to the side and pursed your lips, the corners of your mouth turning down funnily.

“Oh, you do?” He sounded amused but faked being surprised anyway. “And what's he like?” He leaned his head and propped it on one hand.

“He’s amazing.” You beamed. “I hope you’re ready for this because I have compliments for days.”

“You do?” His expression softened even more, and he reached for the hand you had over the table, caressing your knuckles with his fingertips. “Funny, I also happen to have a girlfriend, and I have a million things to boast about.”

You giggled, feeling a little shy but also curious.

“Yeah? I got dibs, though.” You grinned and he pinched your cheek lovingly. When he let go, you caught his hand and squeezed. “He’s got the biggest heart.” Zen smiled and looked down like a little kid. “Cushioned by the biggest muscles,” you added, poking your tongue through a toothy smile. It got a laugh from him. “He is the most caring person I know, always trying to help. He makes the world a better place, makes the world a home for the people he loves.” You felt your eyes begin to water, and your heart softened. “And I feel incredibly grateful to be one of those people.” You reached for his face, caressing his cheek. He leaned into your touch, closing his eyes.

“You’re going to make me cry,” he said in a whisper, but the bar was quiet enough for you to hear him. “I hope you’re ready for the rematch.” You nodded, feeling jittery. “She is so incredibly bright, determined, beautiful and sexy.” He leaned to press a kiss to your shoulder. “She’s the person that makes me a better man. Every day I wake up next to her, I believe this life can’t get any better.” He turned his hand in your hold, to intertwine his fingers with yours. “She makes me crazy and helps me keep my sanity,” he chuckled softly, “if that makes sense? I’m worse than you at expressing myself.”

You laughed silently, exhaling through your nose.

“I adore you, Zen.” You moved your fingers slightly in his hand.

“I worship you,” he counterattacked. The way he looked at you pushed the meaning further into you. “Should we finish these drinks so I can show you all the ways I can worship you?” He leaned his head down on the arm he had on the table, looking at you from below. He seemed like a giant puppy waiting for his owner’s orders.

You picked up the glass in response.

The walk back home was chilly, but feeling Zen’s warmth next to you, and through your connected hands, kept you from the cold. Once inside the Suiseki house, you went to the toilet before going to Zen’s room.

“Is it silly if I say…” Zen spoke the second you closed the door behind you. “That I don’t want you to take off my blazer yet?”

“What should I do then?” You smiled cheekily, getting closer to him. “Should I do a private runway show?” You pressed your open palms to his chest. “Just for you?”

“I’d love that.” He pressed a kiss to your cheek. “What would the price of admission be?”

“I’ll decide later.” You pushed on him, guiding him to the bed and making him plop down. You turned around and walked away, as far as the room would allow you. Then, you turned back to Zen and smiled.

Having his gaze trained on you used to make you nervous, but now, it gave you the confidence you needed. He didn’t just accept you completely, but he also thought anything you could offer him was an amazing gift.

You walked towards him slowly, stopping before you reached him. Then, like a model, you stroke a few different poses, pulling on the blazer. Zen whistled softly and you took off the blazer, grabbing it by the collar and sliding it over one of your shoulders to hang from your hand at your back.

You turned around and walked away again, looking over your shoulder back at Zen. He smiled brightly and stood up.

“Best model I’ve ever seen, the designer should be grateful. If I didn’t already own the blazer, I’d buy it again.” He walked towards you, and you chuckled.

“So, you’re only lending me the blazer? Aw, I thought I’d convince you to give it to me with this.” You joked, faking a pout.

“I can show you why it’s mine, you know. Don’t get me wrong, it looks great on you, love, but.” He took the blazer from your hands and started putting it on. “It fits me just right.” He moved his head signalling for you to sit down on the bed.

When you did, he paraded like you had done, making a serious but confident face. When he paused, he ran his fingers through his hair and pulled on the blazer, like there was a mirror in front of him. Then, he broke into an amused smile, looking into your eyes.

“So?”

“You convinced me.” You giggled, jumping from the bed. In a second, he got close to you and surrounded you with his arms, placing his hands on your lower back. “I’m still mad you’re not giving it to me, though.” You grabbed him by the lapels.

“Maybe,” he leaned down, placing his mouth by your ear and whispering. “I can make it up to you.” A sweet shiver ran down your spine. “Shall I take your dress off?” He leaned back to look in your eyes.

“Only if you take off your shirt first.” Your hands moved to caress the sides and back of his neck.

“Easy.” His small smile melted onto your lips in a slow and sensual kiss.
