Notes - So you can thank the OC insta for posting the end of 11x03 and putting me in my Hawkami painful feels. This was kind of therapeutic to write so I hope you enjoy. AO3 Link
She’d long heard that the days were easier than the nights, that the nights would bring body aching loneliness and hours of painful memories. But for Violet, that wasn’t the case.
The days were awful. Everyone was tiptoeing around her as if she was close to her breaking point and one noise just a fraction too loud would push her off the edge. They spoke to her in hushed voices, heads cocked to the side like you spoke to someone in a hospital bed. But she wasn’t in a hospital bed, she wasn’t injured. At least not physically or visibly. She knew they meant well, that they thought they were looking out for her best interests. But it just served as a reminder that nothing was right. She was having to live out her days without the man she loved by her side. And it wasn’t fair.
No, the days were painful, raw and seemed to last for hours longer than they should. But she looked forward to the night.
At night, she could wrap herself in his shirt, his smell enveloping her like a hug, curl into bed and drift into a world where he still existed. Where he still pulled her into his arms, told her how loved she was and they could continue to live their lives together, the mundane and the exciting. Their time not impacted by a little thing such as death.
In the back of her mind Violet knew it wasn’t real. Knew it was a life of fantasy, but it provided her comfort, a place where she wasn't in pain and where every little thing didn’t remind her of the life she wanted and was no longer possible for her. When she closed her eyes at night, everything she had ever hoped was possible. There was no grief in sleep.
Tonight was no different, without even stopping to look at the clock as she walked into her apartment, caring not for the time, she headed straight to her room. Shucking off her clothes, leaving them in the pile on the floor they fell to as she stepped out of them. She pulled the worn grey t-shirt over her head, breathing in the scent that still lingered on the cotton. It wasn’t as strong as it once was, but it was still enough.
She climbed into bed, switching her phone on to silent - nothing was important enough to disturb the only time she got now that allowed her to feel alive. Tugging the sheets up high to her chin, she knew it wouldn’t take long for sleep to overcome her. And as usual, she was right.
Her eyes fluttered open when the morning sun flooded into the room, her gaze focused on the figure of a man opening the blinds and when he turned around to look at her, his smile was wide and bright.
‘Morning beautiful,’ he said softly, crawling back across the bed and dropping a kiss to her forehead. Violet hummed in response. She still wasn’t used to getting woken up like this, peacefully lifted from her slumber with love and affection.
‘You got an early meeting?’ She asked, her voice still thick with sleep as she rolled over on her side so she could throw an arm and a leg over him.
‘Not today, was going to make you breakfast though, how’s pancakes and bacon sound?’ He asked, pushing a strand of hair that had fallen out of her braid behind her ear.
‘Delicious,’ Violet muttered, pressing a kiss to his bare chest and letting her lips linger against his warm skin.
The scene faded as if a blur effect had been painted across the whole thing, the colours merged together and a second later turned back into solid.
The sun was glistening off the Chicago waterfront, the sky absent for all but a couple of small clouds and his hand was wrapped tightly around hers. The path was busy but bubbling with life on a weekend afternoon. There were children peddling little bikes, excitedly laughing as they hit top speed off in front of parents. Old couples strolling slowly arm in arm, savouring the summer sun on their skin. Young couples swinging interlaced hands, taking selfies with beaming smiles.
The happiness of everyone around them was infectious and Violet couldn’t disguise the smile that was painted on her cheeks as she took it all in. They continued to meander down the path, no destination in mind, just content to be in the fresh air together with no worry that an emergency call out may interrupt them. As with all couples whose work involved answering the needs of the citizens of Chicago, they had had many an interrupted rendezvous when the bells had rung.
Coming up to a park bench on the side, a little girl with a multi coloured tutu was dancing to imaginary music, her arms swaying above her head.
‘Dad, dance with me!’ They heard her call out loudly to the man sitting on the bench just across from them. Without missing a beat, her father jumped up and pulled her into his arms, dramatically swaying them both and dipping her before peppering her face with kisses, her giggles filling the air.
Violet smiled at them as they passed, when a voice whispered in her ear, ‘that’s the kind of father I want to be.’
A warmth filled her stomach at his words and she glanced up at him, ‘really?’ She asked, curious as to what had brought out such a comment.
‘The kind who will drop anything when their kid calls, makes a fool of themselves in public just so their child will smile. The father who has pictures of his kids in his wallet and will talk about them to everyone and anyone,’ he squeezed her hand and her mind was suddenly swimming with images.
The images are full of two children, a little boy the spitting image of the man holding her hand and a little girl, her long dark hair swirling around her as she giggled loudly. They were being pushed on the swings, both cheering loudly to go higher and higher, she and him both acquiescing to their requests, matching silver rings glistening on their left hands.
The image melted again and when she opened her eyes, the world she had been living in had disappeared and once again she was back in her room, her blinds drawn but the morning sun peeping through the corners. Glancing at her phone, she realised she was late. It was already 8:15 and she was due on shift 15 minutes ago. Groaning loudly, she pulled herself out of bed and hurried to get ready.
——————————————————————————
‘Is everything okay?’ Her partner Sylvie Brett asked softly, having pulled her aside once she appeared in the break room, 40 minutes after her shift had started.
‘Yeah, fine,’ Violet brushed her off, pulling her hair into a tight ponytail. She really should have showered this morning but had obviously not had the time and didn’t have the energy or the want to shower in the locker room either.
‘Violet-’ Sylvie tried again, her head tilting in the tell-tale sign of pity that Violet had grown to hate in the past few weeks. Couldn’t anyone keep their head straight on their necks when they talked to her these days.
‘I just overslept Sylvie, I’m sorry. I'll go apologise to Boden,’ she interrupted and before Sylvie could say anything else, she turned heel and marched towards Boden’s office. She had no intention of speaking to their Chief, he was full of pity more than anyone else. He was the one who had held her back, stopped her from being able to save him. And he knew it.
‘Oh hey Vi,’ Gallo appeared next to her from out of nowhere. ‘Missed you at morning briefing,’ he said. It wasn’t a question but she could tell he was digging for an explanation not just of her tardiness today but her overall demeanour. She wanted to yell at him; he’s dead! Nothing matters anymore!
But she swallowed it down, she knew her friends cared. She knew they were trying and wanted to help but there was nothing they could do and she didn’t want the help. She wanted this shift to be over so she could go home and go to sleep.
‘Just overslept is all,’ she said calmly.
‘Glad you’re sleeping well,’ he said with a warm smile. If he only knew the half of it but she nodded with a forced smile.
‘I’m just going to…’ she said, gesturing past him in a hope that he would let her pass without any more questioning.
‘Of course, umm…’ he paused and Violet could feel the words on the tip of his tongue but she couldn’t. Not today. So she smiled again and continued past him into the locker room, thankful it was empty.
She sat on the bench, facing her locker but not really looking at it, her mind failing to focus on anything solid right now.
That’s how Hermann came to find her 30 minutes later, gazing off into the distance, her eyes glazed over, shoulders slumped forward.
‘Hey kiddo,’ he said quietly but it still made her jump.
‘Oh hi Hermann,’ she said with a little shake of her head in an attempt to pull herself completely back into the present.
‘I’m not going to ask you if you’re okay, because you’re not,’ he started and she immediately turned to look away, not wanting to keep his eye contact for fear he would be able to see straight through her. ‘But if you ever want to talk, or not talk. We are all here for you. And we don’t expect you to be better just because that would be the easy thing. These things hurt and you’ve got to feel that hurt for a bit. So you can heal.’ Hermann reached over and squeezed her shoulder before leaving her alone again with her own thoughts.
His words had hit her. That you need to feel the hurt. But she wasn’t hurting. At least not all the time. When she was on shift, she was angry - angry at the situation, that he had been put in that position and saved someone else instead of himself. Mad at her friends which she knew wasn’t fair but was still how she was feeling. She was annoyed that her shifts were long and she was expected to sleep during them but she couldn’t. She lay awake every night on shift. She could only sleep in the bed she had shared with him, wrapped in his scent and drifting off back into his arms. She prayed they got calls in the middle of the night so her tiredness wouldn’t be questioned. But she wasn’t hurting.
At home, when she was asleep, she was as far from hurt as she could be. She was happy. She was in love. She was with him.
——————————————————————————
Returning back to her apartment after shift she repeated the same routine she had since the day of the funeral. Before the funeral she hadn’t slept once. Before everyone in polished and pressed uniforms had come out to show how sad they were. Sad they were for a person they barely knew. But she knew him, she knew him and she couldn’t even say anything. The department knew about their relationship but didn’t want it advertised. And as such, she had to sit at the back with her house and listen to people praise him and his work, staying vague enough that the speeches could have been rolled out for whoever had been crushed by that building.
Their words meant nothing. And that night when she had expected to lie in bed and have a night filled again with restless movement and everything but sleep, she fell asleep and he appeared to her. She fell back into a world where they were together and that call never happened. She had never had to experience having her heart crushed in front of her friends, her own cries echoing outside her body as they pulled him out, his body lifeless and his eyes empty of their usual sparkle. In this world, he was hers and she was his, he was alive and they were in love.
He stood with his back to her, his bare skin pale in the moonlight. He didn’t turn as she got out of bed but she knew it was him, she had memorised his lines, every stretch of his skin, the outline of his muscles underneath her fingers. Looking down she realised she was just as scantily dressed as he was, only a pair of black underwear graced her frame. She didn’t care. She never felt self-conscious around him. Whenever he was around, Violet felt like the most beautiful woman on the planet, all the flaws she used to see when she looked in the mirror, all the bits of herself that she had poked and prodded, disappeared when he looked at her.
She pressed her naked chest to his back, wrapping her arms tightly around him and sighing when his fingers interlocked with hers.
‘Morning,’ she murmured, pressing a kiss to the middle of his spine.
‘Good morning my love,’ the man said, his voice warm and comforting. ‘Did you sleep well? I didn’t mean to wake you.’
‘You didn’t,’ she said, her lips remaining in contact with his skin so her voice was muffled.
‘What do you want to do today?’ He asked and Violet knew that whatever she said he would agree to in an instant. If she wanted to drive for hours with the radio playing and the windows down, he would pack a bag full of food so they wouldn’t need to stop. If she wanted to stay in bed all day and show him how much she loved him, he would show her the feeling was mutual. If she said she didn’t know, he’d offer suggestions of things he knew she’d enjoy. She had never been with someone who valued her happiness and comfort so highly. She was as happy as she imagined she could ever be.
The first night, it had all seemed so real. His touch, his lips, his words. It was like he was really with her and her life without him was the dream instead. When she awoke and was alone, she realised it wasn’t. But every night when she fell asleep, it could be real again and she lived for those moments. She tried to rush through the days as quickly as she could, the faster the day went, the quicker she was back with her love and her heart was whole again.
They were swaying in each other’s arms, strings of fairy lights twinkling above their heads. The music played in the distance but neither of them were focused on the words the band was saying, the only important thing was each other. He was dressed to the nines, his suit fitting him perfectly, the shirt underneath white as snow. His newest accessory stark against his own skin.
Her own matched his, he had offered to get her a fancier one but the engagement ring was bright enough for her. She was happy to have a plain wedding band that matched her husband’s.
The back of her dress was lace, the pearl buttons starting just below her shoulder blades and running down where the material changed to satin at the bottom of her back and down the train. The front was a matching lace but was currently pressed to her love’s chest, his arms wrapped tightly around her, providing the safety she knew they always would.
The whole night was like a fairytale. Her father had walked her down the aisle, holding back his own tears where her fiancé had failed to do so. When she met him at the altar, tears were streaming down his face, his red rimmed eyes filled with nothing but love and his smile wide enough to hurt his cheeks. Their friends and family had cheered them when they were announced husband and wife, had showered them with love and affection at the reception and were now coupled off and dancing their own dances around the floor.
It was everything she had ever wished it could be.
Violet was pulled roughly from that world, awoken unceremoniously by a loud knocking at the door. She frowned for a moment, hoping the noise would stop and she could return to her unconscious state but when it didn’t she realised she needed to see to it before her neighbours put in a complaint.
Tugging on a pair of sweatpants that were crumpled on the floor, she opened the door and was shocked to see Kelly Severide in front of her. As far as she had been aware, he didn’t know where she lived.
‘Hey Violet,’ he said, surprisingly without the head tilt and his voice lacking the usual pity that their colleagues used.
‘Um hi, it’s not a great time,’ Violet said, pushing her hair out of her face and tugging awkwardly at the hem of her shirt. She wasn’t exactly dressed to entertain.
‘No, that much I realise but considering you missed the whole of last shift, it’s the right time,’ Kelly said calmly, gently pushing past her into the apartment.
Violet’s jaw dropped, she had missed the whole of the last shift. She knew she had woken up a couple of times last night, or last day clearly, and gotten up for a drink or a trip to the bathroom but never once had she glanced at her phone or thought to check the time. She had just retreated back to her bed, back to him.
‘I must have been tired…’ she panicked and tried to think of an excuse but Kelly shook his head.
‘It’s not that though, is it,’ he said calmly, taking a seat on her couch and gesturing for her to sit at the other side. Even though he wasn’t her ranking officer when he was in her apartment, she still did as was asked and sat down next to him.
‘I’m not here to pity you Violet, I’m sure you’ve had your fill of that from everyone else,’ he was speaking the truth, his voice was still calm but not the ‘I’m sorry the man you loved died’ calm but the ‘I understand’ calm. She hummed lightly in response, she didn’t know where he was going with this but she was going to hear him out.
‘I know you know about Shay,’ Kelly started, he seemed to take a deep breath before speaking which confused Violet. She had heard a lot about Shay, from Kelly and from others but it didn’t usually make him react like this. She nodded in response anyway, of course she knew Shay - everyone at 51 knew Shay. ‘But there was also Anna.’ Violet glanced over at him, her gaze being fixed ahead until this moment, she saw he was a little paler than usual.
‘Anna was my girlfriend who died, she had cancer and it was terminal. She died holding my hand and it broke me,’ Kelly said, his voice thick where he was holding back tears. ‘I was a shell of a man for a while. I’d only just survived losing Shay but when Anna was taken, I didn’t think I’d make it.’
Violet continued to stare at him as he spoke, she could tell it had taken a lot for him to tell her this and she didn’t want to interrupt him.
‘I thought I saw her everywhere after that. On calls, at the checkout of the store, on the L. It was like my mind wanted to see her, so it did. It was the worst at night, she’d fill my dreams and then I’d wake up and realise she was still gone.’ He went quiet after that, their breathing the only noise in the silent room.
‘He’s in all my dreams,’ Violet said in all but a whisper. ‘When I’m asleep, it’s like I’m alive with him again.’
‘But then you wake up,’ Kelly said quietly and Violet nodded.
‘It’s easier in the dreams, it doesn’t hurt because he’s there,’ she admitted. She hadn’t told anyone this, hadn’t wanted to admit that she was dreaming about someone who wasn’t alive anymore. She didn’t think anyone would understand but here was Kelly, someone who clearly understood more than she knew.
‘But if you’re only focused on the dreams, then you’ll forget to live,’ Violet blinked at his words. ‘He wouldn’t want you to do that Violet, he’d want you to live. Evan would want you to live for the both of you.’
Violet choked back a sudden sob. It was the first time anyone had said Evan’s name to her since it had happened. Everyone had avoided it. They had always just said ‘sorry for your loss’ or he was simply ‘him’. Nobody ever said his name.
The name that she had murmured into his skin as he made her feel things that no one else ever had. The name she would yell with a laugh when he would pick her up from behind when she least expected it and twirl her around. The name she tagged on to the end of I love you when she said goodbye as he left her apartment, her words only meant for him and no one else.
She realised she hadn’t even said it herself. She hadn’t said his name either. She had thought she’d say goodbye to him at his funeral, get a moment to whisper the words at his grave but she never did.
‘I never said goodbye,’ she choked out. She was crying more now than she had since that night when she had watched his lifeless body get carried away from her. ‘I never said goodbye,’ she repeated, quieter this time, a realisation as well as statement.
‘You can still do it now,’ Kelly suggested softly, and when Violet quickly spun her head to look at him added, ‘it doesn’t mean you’ll forget him. It just means you can start to live again. He’ll always be with you Violet, looking out for you, cheering on your successes and mourning your losses. But you’re still here Violet, and you can’t forget that. Evan wouldn’t want you to forget that.’
She nodded, the tears still staining her cheeks. ‘Will you come with me?’ She asked quietly. She would never normally have asked this of Kelly, the Squad Lieutenant and she had never had that much in common up until that point. But he nodded at her when she added, ‘I need to say goodbye.’

Old scars - future Hearts (a Hawkami oneshot)
Warnings: angst, fluff
Summary:
"Don't do that. Don't pretend that everything is fine when it's so clear it's not. I know you're hurting Violet. Please, let me help." "What if there is nothing you can do to help?" "I can only try if you let me." or Violet and Evan talk about what happened to him and how it affected her.
Words: 2k
Pairing: Violet Makami x Evans Hawkins (Hawkami)
A/N: Yup, I'm still screaming, crying, throwing up over the loss of Hawkins. I loved his character so much and his relationship with Violet was what got me into the show again. I wish they would have had more time together, because they were amazing together!! So because there's nothing else to do I'm going to pretend he didn't die and they got the happy ending they deserved. I'm going to write more for them soon! :)

With Sylvie gone for an extended furlough, Violet knew she was bound to be stuck with a replacement partner that she couldn’t stand. She half-expected it to be Wyatt or Chout, knowing her luck. What she didn’t expect was to be partnered with Paramedic Chief Evan Hawkins, in Sylvie’s absence. And she certainly wasn't expecting the aftermath of that shift.

For the tropes, my new favorite couple #Hawkami - tropes 63 and 67
63. Everyone knows/mistaken for a couple + 67. Character in peril
Ouuuu I’d totally write this as a what-if fic for 10x13 where Violet gets injured on a call where Hawkins is already there and so he pushes through everyone, very visibly distressed, calling out orders and talking with Boden and insisting on riding with her in the ambulance (which Sylvie doesn’t argue with because she needs someone experienced keeping an eye on Violet while she’s driving). But then when Sylvie and the rest of 51 get to Med after the call (because they absolutely would show up for her!!) and see Hawkins through the window of her room holding her hand by her bedside as she groggily wakes up, and they pieces click together instantly for them.

Passion and Two Little Lines
     Chapter One
In the area inside an empty bathroom, Violet Mikami brings her cell phone to her ear for the umpteenth time. “Hey, Violet, it's me. Uh, Evan. It's about what we discussed in my office the other day. Truth is…I can't stay away, and I worked with you long enough to know that you won't be able to either. Meet me in the coat room at the Chicago Fire Department Gala after you accept your award.”
Happy as she is to have that voice mail, and have that award in her hands, it's nothing but a fuzzy memory until strong hands cradle Violet's slender waist after momentarily pressing to the window glass in an effort to back her up against it.
Pleased as Paramedic Chief Evan Hawkins is by Violet's bold actions to pull him into a kiss, he knows that if they linger here any longer, they won't make it to his apartment.
And as good as they both look in their formal attire, Violet and Evan exchange a glance once their kisses have come to a brief end in order to breathe.
Grabbing her slender hand in his own, tuxedo-clad Evan hurries them to the nearest set of elevators so that they could an escape without anyone seeing them.
But that isn't so because, through the tinted windows reconnecting exes Johanna Voight and Kelly Severide, watch the young couple when they rush off. “Do you think they know that we know what they're doing?” Jo asks, tugging Kelly's tuxedo jacket tighter around her bare shoulders to ward off the chilly air of Chicago in January.
“Nah, but it might be a good idea to keep an eye on Gallo, just in case he finds out the hard way,” Kelly replies, slipping the ring Jo had kept since high school back onto her finger where it belonged.
Two slender hands lift above the halo of dark waves.
Their ride to Evan's apartment building that's located only a few blocks from the building where the gala had taken place…it takes the pair slightly longer than it actually should. Because, as Evan finds out on this very evening, Violet is the queen of distracting a driver. With gentle nips to his cheek and ear, Evan nearly swerves his SUV just a smidgen but quickly regains his control after Violet sees this happen and moves away. Evan pulls her back toward him, wrapping one arm around her bare shoulders; keeping the other on his S.U.V.'s steering wheel.
Palms guide the bottom of Violet's now unzipped dress upward.
Just before they arrive at his town house slash boarding house Violet's cell phone chimes with a text message. Lifting the screen up to her face, the black-haired paramedic uses a manicured fingertip to swipe up out of her cell phone's lock screen. Going to her text messages, the tiniest flicker of a smile moves onto her lips when she sees it's from Capp's librarian wife Cassandra. Using the same fingertip, Violet taps the video's play button at the same time she turns the inner volume up on the side of her phone.
Damn all consequences, this is exactly what Violet wanted: to feel adored.
“Hey, girl! I'm so, so sorry that most of us missed you getting your award, but I hope you looked wonderful in the dress you bought with that hard-earned money! Send me photos!” Once the video stops, a hint of sadness flickers behind the soft smile that edges onto her lips.
“Violet…” He only has to say her name once on two syllables and she is lost in a tidal wave of desire as her slender body frame surges forward across the console between them. He meets Violet halfway, their mouths crashing together instantly. After a short time spent in a steamy and scorching hot make-out session, Evan pulls back slightly; voice thick and dripping with desire as he's able to say: “Let's go inside.”
Violet nods, unable to speak let alone think rationally. Stepping out onto the street, the brunette paramedic makes her way around to the driver's side. Her hand tucks itself into the one Evan extends for her, exchanging smiles with him as they walk toward a two-story Victorian-era style home. “You live here?”
“I share it with several of the other Chicago Fire Department Headquarters Chiefs and occasionally a firefighter or two that are struggling to find a place in their budget,” Evan explains to her. “None of them are here tonight though, considering the occasion and circumstances. We have the place to ourselves.”
Tugging on the hand she's holding, Violet hurries toward the sidewalk and screened in front porch's concrete steps. Letting free a deep and rich laugh, Evan allows her to drag him with her into the house. “Back bedroom on the left of the kitchen,” he says when she turns to non-verbally ask for the location of his bedroom.
Violet's manicured fingers slip down beneath the waistband of Tommy Hilfiger boxer-briefs that are black and gray. Evan's own fingers tangle among the lace just barely covering her chest and groin slash rear end. Mouths crash together in a firecracker fuse just waiting for someone to light the end of it, tongues tangling in a heated and passionate tango.
Once alone in his bedroom, Violet's fingers look tinier than they actually are as they hover above the lock on the doorknob. “I don't think there needs to be any light on in the room, do you?”
“None whatsoever,” he whispers in response. His breath warm as it wisps through the loose strands of Violet's hair curling down from her up-do.
Stumbling across the carpeted floor of his room with Violet in his arms, Evan finally gets her to the bed. They fall at the same time with him hovering before gently wedging one knee between the apex of Violet's slim thighs. Gasping for air, breath warming the skin of Evan's shoulder, Violet is suddenly brought to her feet by the mattress' edge. She leans into his broad chest as he unfastens the hooks of her bra, placing her ear against the left side of his chest. His hands tremble but remain gentle as he slides her bra's straps down Violet's arms in a slow and sensual manner before settling on her waist. Violet bites back a moan at his touch. “Don't hide those sounds from me on my behalf,” Violet hears him say in a soft, low vocal tone. “Be as loud as you want to be. My bedroom walls are soundproof.”
Good to know. A deep, loud and feminine moan rips itself free from the darkest depths of Violet's throat as she arches her slender stomach forward into the touch of his hands. Caressing. Fondling. Making her feel cherished. Loved. Adored.
If Violet knows him well…and she does…Evan is making up for both of them verbally agreeing to stay away from each other in the first place. “Don't be afraid to touch me in other areas, Evan,” Violet finally manages to say in a ragged whisper.
“That I'm planning on. But I'm going to take my time to do some exploring,” Evan whispers in response; the entirety of his mouth wrecking havoc on Violet's senses.
Grasping for what little air is left in her lungs Violet does her best not to thrash about from Evan's ministrations. Evan smirks to himself at the still nature of her slender form and moves his face closer to her ear. Warm breath lingering on the shell, Evan speaks in a low whisper. “Where do you want me, Mikami?”
“E…Everywhere,” Violet manages to mumble out on a breathless gasp.
“Show me,” he says, his voice thick and dripping with seduction. Violet shivers then, taking his hands, guides one up to her face and lips. She presses the softest of kisses to the print pads of Evan's fingers, ripping a soft groan from his chest. The movement doesn't deter Violet, however, from bringing Evan's other hand to cradle the round globe of her breast.
He takes over from there, the ridge of his arousal getting harder to ignore the further Evan caresses and fondles Violet's breasts; alternating, switching back and forth between them. “Just like that,” Evan barely hears her whisper over the loud sound of his heartbeat thundering in his ears. Evan's gentle and tender ministrations continue while he lowers his face to Violet's bare shoulder. Open-mouthed kisses blaze a fiery trail from the rapid and steady pulse point at Violet's neck, over the curve of her shoulder and down her arm. Evan repeats this on the other side before turning Violet to face him.
“You're beautiful,” Evan affirms after keeping his eyes locked onto Violet's while taking a photograph in his mind's eye. Her hair is starting to come loose from the chignon-style bun held in place with a beautiful bight white poinsettia. Reaching up with a gentle hand, Evan removes the pin's silver metal teeth from her ebony black hair. Violet tilts her head to give him better visual access then shakes her hair loose until it flows around her face and shoulders.
Damn she's absolutely stunning. Does she have any clue about the effect she has on me? Evan shakes off his thoughts before hooking his thumbs into the waistband of Violet's lacy underwear.
Violet isn't shy as she, too, helps remove the last remaining piece of Evan's clothing that's keeping her from seeing him exposed to his full glory.
As soon as they're both completely naked, Evan goes to grab a condom from his bedside drawer. Violet goes to spread out on Evan's askew bed covers and holds her arms out for him. Climbing onto the bed after Violet, Evan lays himself on top of her. Taking his now covered…protected…erection in his hand, Evan gently eases it into the tight walls of Violet's dripping wet womanly essence parts.
Evan breathes in the scent of her as he eases himself in one inch at a time. Violet remains completely still except to gently caress his cheek, the tip of her thumb grazing the corner of his lips. Turning his head, Evan places a whisper-soft kiss to the palm of her hand.
I'm falling in love, they both think at that exact moment.
And then they began making the earth move.

Violet x Evans (Hawkami)
Tumblr media
Violet Hakami & Evan Hawkins dating (for more than a few episodes) would include...
Old scars - future hearts
"Don't do that. Don't pretend that everything is fine when it's so clear it's not. I know you're hurting Violet. Please, let me help." "What if there is nothing you can do to help?" "I can only try if you let me." or Violet and Evan talk about what happened to him and how it affected her.

Violet Hakami & Evan Hawkins dating (for more than a few episodes) would include...
Tumblr media
A/N: Just my take on how their happily ever after could go (still sobbing over here so writing this gave me a little comfort. I hope it might cheer you up)
Violet definitely has an ugly christmas sweater competition with Ritter and Gallo
She thinks it‘s kind of dumb, but she participates anyway because why not??
So when she is out shopping with Evan she begins looking for the ugliest one she can find
And he is like ????
"You actually think these look good???"
So she tells him about the competition and he helps her pick one and it's never mentioned again
But then on Christmas Eve he shows up in the most horrendous sweater she has ever seen
And she is so shook??? Because it‘s Evan???
"I think I win this one.“
"Oh, you definitely do!"
The year after that they take the competition so serious they go shopping separately
and there is lots of banter and teasing involved ;)
Also Evan is really good at picking out gifts
Violet just gets something she thinks is a good fit but Evan can spend weeks weighing ideas until the finds the perfect one
And he does
Every single time
"Evan...I don't know what to say." :,)
She is always speechless and he thinks it‘s the best reward he can get, because it‘s so cute
And we all know making Violet Makami speechless is not an easy quest (That girl always got something to say)
"Just tell me I'm the best."
"Oh, you so are!"
At the end of her work day Violet usually vents to him about annoying patients or jokes that were pulled at 51
And he listenes quietly and grins (because he thinks she is so cute when she is mad) until she is done or his smile distracts her from what she was going to say next
"Stop it!"
"Stop what?"
"You know what! That thing that you're doing!"
"Smiling?"
"Exactly that. It's distracting!"
Evan is a really good listener
and he is very patient
Violet is more fierce and outgoing than him
so that's a match ;)
But even though he is the calmer one , sometimes he has to let off steam too (mostly it‘s about the paperwork)
One of his ways Violet really doesn't mind ;)
The other is the gym. They work out together regularly and he teachers her boxing
He goes for runs too, but Violet can‘t be bothered to join him
"There is good exercise and then there is running.“ He always grins at that
Violet takes him to a spinning class once (Brett introduced her to it) and he ends up loving it
When they have a tough call they always take the time to talk about it, because they both know how important that is
Usually Evan can sense if something happened just by the way Violet picks up the phone or when she comes home in a weird mood
"What's wrong?"
Lots of comfort
Cuddles
And hugs
"You know you can always talk to me about everything, right?"
"I do."
Evan is the big spoon
But when they make out Violet is the dominant one
She likes to mess with him and tease him
because she thinks it's so fun to get a reaction out of him
especially in public ;)
Also lots of chemistry talk (because she knows he is into that)
which in turn makes her feel very cool about it and not like a huge nerd
though she has learned Evan is such a nerd about tv shows
she is always more entertained by how into them he is than what actually happens on screen
And yeah she might have called him chief in bed once or twice (it was an accident….)
Let‘s just say he didn‘t mind
Since officially being out as a couple they go to Molly‘s regularly
Evan gets along with everyone, because he is such a likeable guy. Violet sometimes thinks it‘s annoying haha
"Is there anyone who doesn't like you?"
"I guess some do, yeah."
She rolls her eyes hard at that
They often hang out with Brett, because he still supports her on the paramedicine program
He introduces her to his friends too and they are not the uptight guys she imagined they might be (they think she is pretty cool and pretty hot Evan can‘t disagree on that one, though he prefers his friends not to call her that)
Violet is the sassy one in the relationship
But they both got the sarcastic comments down
They like to call each other by their last name if they are teasing
Also Evan does this leaning-against-a-wall-pose that Violet thinks is so hot
The worst part is he doesn‘t even realise he is doing it
After dating for a while he introduces her to his family and they all adore her
Now they keep bugging him about proposing
Which he will do (eventually)
Also Evan can cook
He sometimes tries to teach her but she‘s a mess
(Or maybe she isn‘t trying hard enough, because it‘s just so comfortable to let him cook for her)
and he doesn't mind at all (he says it relaxes him which she really doesn't get)
They don‘t see each other at work anymore, but sometimes he surprises her with a lunch date or pops in at 51 when he is off shift
Those are her favourite moments
Of course Mouch then made him cook for the whole firehouse which she got pretty mad about, but Evan didn’t even mind
"They are your family and I want them to like me.“
"As if they didn‘t adore you already.“
When he doesn't cook for them, he loves to take her out
Fancy restaurants
Chilling at the movies
When he has to attend boring events she is by his side and makes them not so boring
Dancing
He is there (and proud!!) when she gets another award
"For being one hell of a badass paramedic!"
They move in together when they realise they have been practically living together all the time anyway
„It’s just easier that way.“ Brett just nodded at that with a very unconvinced grin (the girl knows what's up)
Evan is really not the jealous type. He likes to be aware if there is something he should know about, but he trusts Violet and is secure in their relationship
Violet can get pretty jealous though. She just can't help it
Especially because she knows how good Evan looks in his uniform (or outside of it ;)) Of course others will try their luck with him.
She actually growls when she is there to see it. But he always very politely shuts them down
"You know I only have eyes for you."
And they go on that vacation
And lots of others
Their camera rolls are full of photos of the other
Most of them are goofy
Of course they are each others lockscreens, but Evan carries around a photo of her in his wallet
She thinks it’s so old-school??? But so cute???
Later when he proposes he does the whole deal
He makes sure they are both dressed up and he has roses and her favourite dessert
it's so romantic
Violet almost cries (okay maybe she cries a little) and then Evan gets teary eyed too and it's a whole cute mess
She wants to say she expected it after Brett and Kidd kept teasing her for months
But she really did not
Because there had been plenty of opportunities where nothing happened so she didn‘t expect anything that day
He makes it look so smooth, but they both know he is a nervous mess inside
His biggest fear (after her saying no obv) is dropping the ring so he holds onto it so tight he almost forgets to let go of it then
OBVIOUSLY she says yes
They agree to keep it low-key at first until they figure out the details
But the next day at work she ends up spilling the news to the girls and to Ritter and Gallo
And then Herrman overhears and announces it loudly to the whole firehouse
So there is that
Everyone is so happy for her
Boden even comes out of his office and hugs her
it's adorable
Herrman wants to throw them a party at Molly‘s and she actually thinks she might combust from happiness
Evan doesn‘t mind at all when she admits that „kind of everybody knows“ later. He is more amused about it
"You can show off your ring now. I know you want to.“
She really does (urgh when has she become one of those puppy eyed lovesick girls she used to make fun of??)
Shortly before the wedding Violet gets into a car crash with the ambulance when a sicko tries to get back at the firehouse for uncovering his drug stash
Evan feels his heart sink when he hears what happened
He rushes to the hospital IMMEDIATELY (he might have used his siren to get there faster)
Brett is there to tell him what happened and he is so scared for Violet the whole time she is in surgery
But it makes his heart a little lighter when he sees the whole waiting room is packed with her family at 51
And they take care of him too
Because he is a part of it now too <3
When they finally get the good news that she will be okay everyone let’s him go in first
He hates seeing her in a hospital bed although it reminds him of their first memorable encounter when he had to lecture her about a citizen complaint and her appendix burst in the middle of it
And she had barked orders around in the ambulance and talked nonsense…something about not having problems in her love life at all…and then she had petted his knee and told him he wasn’t a bad paramedic
She had told him that
Her boss
And she had asked him if she would survive
It had been one hell of a messy and cute event for sure
He had fallen hard for her then. And fast.
But being back here sitting at her bedside he could only think about the possibility that she had not survived
And he hadn‘t been there
But when she wakes up and asks him for the bubbly water he made sure to get ready for her it‘s forgotten for a moment
And she sees how upset he is so she reassures him she is okay
"Trust me, you won‘t get rid of me that easily.“
"I am counting on it.“
Cuddles!!!
They do need to post-pone the wedding a little
But when it does happen it‘s picture perfect
And Evan cries a little when he sees her which makes everyone else cry a little too
And they have their happy ending
Because they deserved it

Febuwhump 2023 Day 8
Read it below the line, or here on AO3 (appreciate all kudos, feedback, comments)!
Violet was leaning against her ambulance, taking a quick breather from the scene unfolding in front of her. She spotted Evan running towards another theatre-goer and beckoned to the Chief.
She met Evan’s eyes, questioning if he needed her assistance, when an ungodly rumble took everyone’s attention, and the building cascaded, taking Evan down along with it.
She stood there, unable to move.
Violet. She could hear her name being spoken, but she couldn’t tell who it was, or from what direction she was being beckoned in.
Violet. It was louder now, unbearably louder.
Violet. Suddenly the scene faded, replaced with the concerning, soft eyes of Evan Hawkins.
“What? Where?” Violet asked, disoriented, between trying to collect her breath.
“You were screaming in your sleep again, Violet.”
Violet gripped at her chest, curling into Evan in pain.
“Violet. It’s alright. It’s okay. I’m here.” Evan shifted, letting Violet rest against him and grip his hand tightly.
“Deep breaths. Slowly. Ignore everything else, just focus on yourself.” His smooth voice commanded her, and she closed her eyes, taking heed of his instruction.
It felt like forever before Violet felt the pain dissipate, and she opened her eyes.
“What did you see?” Evan asked.
“I saw you, at the Pickwick Theatre fire. You were in your uniform, and you’d run in to save one of the patrons. And then the building went down, you under. I saw you, dead, under the rubble, unable to save you. Your glassy eyes, your cold skin, everything.” Violet burst into tears, and Evan enveloped her in his arms, comforting her.
He would do anything to stop the nightmares, and subsequent panic attacks, that had been plaguing Violet since that day.
“I promise you, I’m here, Violet. And I’m not leaving. Ever.”
“I know.” Violet responded, but she could stop shaking at how close her nightmare had come to a reality…

Whumptober 2022 Day 18
Read it below the line, or here on AO3 (appreciate all kudos, feedback, comments)!
"I've got her!" The Chief exclaimed, dragging the child out of the water, and sliding her across the ice towards Violet. "It's all good!"
Never jinx the situation during the job - no sooner had Violet managed to drag the child out the cold water and to safety, the ice decided it was still a victim short.
One second Evan was scrambling to his knees, and the next he was gone from her sight.
"Evan!" Violet was torn - she couldn't leave the child, but she also had to make sure that the Chief was alright. Time was of the essence.
"Control, this is Ambo 61. We need another Ambo at our location for another one who's fallen through the ice."
"Received, Ambo 61. ETA on your second ambo is five minutes."
Those five minutes seemed to drag on for an eternity.
*
The second ambo took over the Child's care, and Violet dashed back out onto the ice. As soon as she got closer, she dropped to her stomach, and slowly began the crawl towards the gap in the ice.
Thank goodness that Hawkins was a trained EMT, and he knew how to act. But she could already see that the cold shock was slowly getting to him.
She reached out, knowing that if he pulled her under, they would die here. But at that moment she didn't care. She had one objective: pulling Evan out of the ice cold water and getting him to hospital too.
"Take my hand."
The Chief reached out, still a tad too far, only their fingertips brushing.
"You have to move closer."
Evan shook his head in understanding but struggled to respond. Time was running out.
She took a stretch of faith, and inched forward, gripping his wrist and slowly pulling him towards her.
With strength she didn't know she had inside her she pulled him out and dragged him away from the weaker ice.
"Take my coat, Evan," Violet commanded, "We need to get you into the ambo."
She half supported-half pulled her love across the ice and into the ambo.
She laid him down and began cutting of the sopping wet uniform that had stuck to him like glue.
"If you wanted me to strip, you know all you had to do was ask."
"Not the time for jokes Evan, not the time at all." Violet realised she was sounding harsh, before she added, "Once you're better and warmed, we can discuss it…"
Hawkins smiled weakly at her and let her swaddle him in layers of blankets.
"Are you going to be alright if I drive, or do I need to call another ambo?"
"I'm a medic too, Violet. I'm sure I can handle it."
"Alright, but if I don't hear from you every minute, I'm coming back there."
"Don't doubt it."
