stalker!HADES AU
stalker as in the machine, not the creepy behavior lmao
I’ll edit this post later because right now I’m sleepy, but basically a Horizon: Zero Dawn AU in which Aloy captures HADES in the end of the first game instead of (”)purging(”) him. Basically:
Aloy has a “lantern” in which HADES is kept. The first few months consist of her trying to fix GAIA by herself while also trying to keep the subfunction in check. They argue a LOT. HADES hates the company and the feeling is not mutual because Aloy hates him even more.
Aloy did purge something: HADES may be alive but his directive is gone. There’s just him now, no extra protocols.
Things change. Eventually Aloy discovers some old logs of Travis, and HADES is visibly emotional over them. This is the first time Aloy has seen him like this, and decides to be a bit compassionate and shares some more logs of Travis with him.
HADES has... Daddy issues, if you could call it that. Aloy has, too! Hooray, bonding time!
Just kidding, they keep not liking each other, but HADES becomes way more tolerable after Aloy discovers his liking for Travis. Their dynamic evolves from enemies stuck together to acquaintances.
Eventually HADES is hit with an existencial crisis. His only purpose of existence was to destroy the biosphere, and now there’s nothing and also this weird huntress keeps getting herself into trouble. He has no identity, no purpose, NOTHING. He’s blank, but also not really blank.
Something something Aloy is also like that. Girl built her entire identity on her purpose, just like HADES. They don’t want to bond or relate to each other over that but they still do.
EVENTUALLY HADES starts seeing Aloy as a little sister. They have the same AI mom, and Aloy is a natural troublemaker. Cue to the huntress getting herself into more trouble than she wanted to, getting herself almost killed in the process.
HADES, being a very rational AI, goes batshit. He does NOT want to see his only company hurt, and manages to escape his lantern to override nearby machines. He drags Aloy somewhere safe where she can heal.
After that... He doesn’t get to be in the lantern anymore. Aloy trusts him enough for him to always be overriding a machine (normally a stalker), and after that Aloy somehow goes to the Forbidden West with him or something lmao.
They are annoying siblings. They behave like siblings. They also murder. HADES is still trying to figure his personality out while trying to keep the entity’s wellbeing in check before she overworks herself to death. Aloy makes sure her baby brother doesn’t kill anyone and actually fixes his mistakes.
Yes HADES sees Aloy as a baby sister. Yes Aloy sees HADES as a baby brother. They hate the other for it lmao.

do you have any background context on your horizon dawn au??? I'm invested after seeing your redraw
Yes!! I do believe I've talked about it before, but it has been several years at this point so I suppose it might be difficult to find on this blog now lol
The overall plot of Horizon Zero Dawn stays the same in this au, with a few key differences (warnings for HZD spoilers):
When GAIA was programmed to start repopulating the earth, her subordinate functions ARTEMIS and ELEUTHIA crossed and created mutants instead of humans. Humans no longer exist on Earth.
Hamato Yoshi is in the position of Dr. Elisabet Sobeck, and when GAIA cloned him in an attempt to save herself after destruction, she created four instead of just one and placed each of them in separate cradles as a fail-safe, hoping at least one would make it to adulthood. She used turtle DNA out of sentimentality, because Yoshi once told her that turtles were his favorite animals.
Mikey was created in All-Mother Mountain, essentially filling the role of Aloy and being raised as a member of the Nora tribe. Raph was placed in a cradle within the Cut, Banuk territory, Donnie in the Claim, Oseram territory, and Leo in the Jewel, Carja territory.
The four of them don't know of each other's existence, until Mikey survives the Proving Massacre and learns through the Eclipse focus that HADES ordered he and any other turtle mutants found be killed, recognizing him as one of the clones GAIA had created (similarly to Aloy being the only one with red hair, our four boys are the only turtle mutants in existence.) Realizing that Mikey is not as alone as he previously thought, he sets off on a journey into the west to find his long lost brothers, finding Raph first, then Donnie, then Leo, and together they discover what happened in the past and what purpose they were created for, and stop the Eclipse and HADES from destroying the world. :)

OKAY OKAY OKAY I just had a MASSIVE brain idea, and usually I'd just sit and vibrate in my seat in silence BUT then I remembered I have tumblr!
Idea - Horizon: Zero Dawn HiJack AU
Hiccup is one of the Nora. He's not a machine hunter so he's pretty looked down upon. Stoick is the War Chief for the Nora and loves his son, but he already knows Astrid will take her place among the Braves and he won't.
Anyways, Hiccup has long been fascinated with old-world technology, even though he's never understood it, and sometime before the Proving, he makes friends with a wounded dragon machine. He fixes him up, makes him a pseudo tailfin and names him "Toothless" after the missing teeth he had to replace. He starts to find and explore old-world technology more passionately and finally finds a Focus in one of the ruins. He trains with the focus, and on the day of the Proving, he actually passes as a Brave!
But uh-oh, Shadow Carja Raid. Stoick saves Hiccup Rost style, and Hiccup only survives his fall down the mountain because Toothless catches him. He loses his leg in the battle, and recovers while Astrid takes the mantle as war chief. Dead set on figuring out what's happening with the derangement, he sets out with Toothless.
Along the way he meets the Dragon Riders from the different tribes (Not entirely sure who should belong to what yet, but it's absolutely a found-friend thing like in Forbidden West). They start unraveling the mystery, and this is where I fiddle with the plot.
They travel to the Frozen Wilds before everything with Hades goes down and meet Jack, a troublemaker in his tribe who's well acquainted with Cyan and grew up with old-world tech his whole life, and knows the machines as friendly before the Derangement.
Turns out, Jack is the "Aloy" clone, a rebirth of an old-world scientist (Not sure which one, or how he'd have Elizabeth Sobeck levels of access). Jack isn't crazy about the idea of being some old-world savior, but when he sees how much good he can do by granting Hiccup access into the Caldron, and what all he can do with Jack's knowledge of Old-World Tech, he's quick to join the "dragon riders".
Hiccup's mom would probably be from the Forbidden West, and left back to her tribe for some reason or another. Not a lot of ideas past that, but HZD is a massive love of mine so I'll probably think of something later and add it lmao

All righty. So. The OBVIOUS idea is Takuto, but instead I'm gonna throw you a curveball: Sylens >:3
Y'ALL KNOW ME TOO WELL (bc I can never shut up but STILL) LMAO THANKS NIX
What I like about them
Ohhhh idk how I wasn't smitten by him right away because oh my god his voice <333 But also his one-liners!! He's so unapologetically mean and it's amusing to watch lol.
What I dislike about them
Needs more HFW screentime :')
Also, I think it would be nice if he had random voice lines in HZD, like a sarcastic quip when you fall down a cliff or get hit by a machine, or hurrying you up when he's waiting for you, or commenting on side quests and stuff like that. I know he's more of a "don't say more than what's necessary" kind of guy, but I just think that would be neat :3
Favourite moment
I liked the "two moms" line, he basically validated me shipping Lis x GAIA, said gay rights, and dismissed Aloy's feelings in the middle of her existential crisis all at the same time lmao. Amazing.
I also liked him torturing HADES, idk. He usually doesn't do the dirty work himself so I guess it's neat to know he's still willing to do it lol. And I do support him getting the last laugh ^^
Least favourite moment
Hmm, nothing comes to mind. I did feel betrayed when he ran off with HADES in HZD lmao, but I didn't dislike it. I already knew he couldn't be trusted but I still did, so. Guess that one's on me :')
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
I wanna know a little about his past, why he thinks the way he does, where he comes from, if he wants knowledge for the sake of knowledge or something else... ;-; Mystery is part of the appeal but I'm curious lol.
An interesting AU for this character
One of the biggest losses of Artekai not being canon is that we'll never see him interact with Sylens :') (Not TRULY).
But that's still in the same universe, so I'll say that I do sometimes rotate a modern AU in my mind where Sylens is just a frustrated college professor and Aloy is the only student he respects lol. I don't have any concrete ideas but I do enjoy the vibes :3
A crossover
Still relevant to Artekai and terribly self-indulgent, but sometimes I think of the cryo sleep Takuto AU and I wanna see him interact with Sylens ^^ Takuto is such a perfect target for little quips lol. My guess is that Sylens would appreciate his research but criticize him for caring too much, which is honestly fair. Maybe it'd be good for both of them to rub off on each other a little, haha.
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
Eh, I don't really have any strong preferences ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Other ships?
Honestly given Sylens' nature I'm already intrigued by the general idea of ships involving him lol. But, in particular, you know I wanna see someone attempt to ship him with HADES lmao. And I KNOW I feel very weird and alone in this take, but is it bad that I want to see Sylens develop unwanted feelings for an AI since he looks down on all other humans and HADES is his main source of the knowledge he so desperately wants?
BROTP
Sylens x "I hate that I have morals now"? lmao. No but I do enjoy his interactions with Aloy, I just wouldn't exactly call them friends lol. At least not at this point in time. Maybe in another world :') Maybe in the college professor AU 👀
NOTP
Eh, I haven't really seen any that would classify yet ¯_(ツ)_/¯
An assortment of headcanons!
Brain's fried right now, sorry, I've got nothing :')

so aloy basically just has zags role hjhjdg and of course i must throw nil in everything so nil is just some dead spirit or some employee of the underworld that keeps fighting aloy and wasting her time

hello and welcome to gryphon’s crackshit crossover corner
I’ve already talked about my theory that httyd is set in the very distant, post-apocalyptic future. that theory was originally inspired by ‘what if httyd and horizon zero dawn crossover?’ My brain said things and for some fuckforsaken reason I listened.
TL:DR I can smash together a crossover of so many different fandoms and media. It’s stupid. I’m crazy. I love it. This is what ADHD makes me think about when I zone out
Anyway, first thing; the portal games could cross over with virtually anything. Portal-lands (borderlands). Portal age of wonderbeasts. How to Portal Your Dragon. Portal and the Princesses of Power. Portal: Zero Dawn. Portalverwatch. Portales of Arcadia. Fuck, if I really wanted, I could make the portal series crossover with Star Wars. This is because the time gap between portal one and two is spectacularly, deliciously difficult to pinpoint. If I shuffle it around, I could align the times during which action and dramatic events occur to line up with Chell finally escaping the facility. She walks through the wheat field and immediately encounters a megabunny, or a herd of grazers and striders. Or she trips on a rusted null sector carcass. Or her first night on the surface she’s staring at the moon and the star-filled sky, until she hears a slowly mounting screech and a flash of lightning. Or after a couple days she encounters a migration of creatures with stone skin, because they’re going to New Jersey and wanted to stop in Michigan to visit the great lakes, I guess. Or a couple weeks in to her new life, there’s a bright flash in the sky, and now she’s glowing? And has weird glowing tattoos on her arm? And can set things on fire? Or a year or two after she escapes, a spaceship? touches down? and out comes a catgirl, a lady with prehensile hair, a weird tall white guy, but not, like, a typical white guy, his skin is literally snow white, and someone who appears to be (???) normally human????? With portal, anything is possible. Bonus points that technically any and all fanfiction, AUs, the like etc. of portal are canon, thanks to cave literally reaching through the multiverse, thereby making all of those alternative realities possible.
So if I wanted, I could stick portal in anything. Like how salt can be used in virtually every cuisine.
But oh, my dear brain did not stop there. This is a crackshit crossover corner, after all.  If I fuck around enough, I could frankenstein together almost all of these. The events in HZD take place approximately one thousand years after the apocalypse, which occurred mid-2000s. As in 2050s-60s, not 2005. Kipo Age of Wonderbeasts takes place about 200 years after their mutepocalypse (also it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that ‘mute’ was shortened from ‘mutants’ and has nothing to do with their ability to speak), and we’re not sure when that happened. We could hazard a guess that Gaia was able to rebuild the world and some of humanity after Faro’s fuckup, but maybe went a liiiiiiiittle too far with the Artemis sub-probgram, and the mutepocalypse happens almost immediately. Oopsies. World goes on for 200 years post mutepocalypse, events of the series of Kipo Age of Wonderbeasts occur. Anknown amount of years later Hades decide’s that’s enough and wipes Gaia’s slate clean for her to start over again. She gives it another shot, but this time limits the amount of historical information that she gave to the humans that she released. Might’ve been a bit inaccurate, because do you know just how much human media insisted that vikings had horned helmets? (Could also explain why somehow Tuffnut knows some spanish). Whatever. This time she tries dragons. Things are actually going pretty well for a couple hundred years, Gaia always thought the ancient mythological tales of winged fire-breathers were cool, why not try it out? Until--are you kidding? The dragons disappear to hide underground? From the humans? Seriously? Wow. Wooooow. All that effort, wasted. Hades decides it’s time to try again. This time? Screw it. Robot megafauna. Hades can’t eat that. Around half a millenia later, Hades gains sentience, goes about trying to commit genocide, events of the HZD game occur. For fanfic funsies, Chell could wake up literally any time in there, because why not add another layer? These all coexist in the same space-time. Same universe, same timeline, but unfortunately not at the same time. Oof. -----> This crackshit combines Horizon Zero Dawn, Kipo Age of Wonderbeasts, and How to Train Your Dragon. (*portal optional)
Or how about somehow, some way, the whole prehistoric ‘peopling of the earth’ (deadass the name of a textbook chapter) was more like accidental colonization of the earth? The rest of the six galaxies moved on and kind of forgot about them, so Borderlands doesn’t necessarily have to be in the distant future of earth’s timeline. Some millenia ago, the Destroyer was going around, doing its thing. The Eridians didn’t like that, so they found a planet with natural capabilities they could take advantage of, asked some sirens for help, and turned it into a superweapon. After all, as typhon says, most Eridian things run on crystals. And sirens’ powers are often elemental--who’s to say the runestones on Etheria aren’t their collaborative work? Along the way they probably make an enemy because of course they do, so why not give the Heart a test run @ Horde Prime? Until Mara rebels, and yeets Etheria and its moons (and presumably star) into Despondos. Well, fuck. Horde Prime mentions ‘one thousand years’ of waiting, but when traveling through space, time can get fucky. Anyway, Now they have to come up with an alternative way to eliminate the Destroyer. It might take a few millenia of hopping around, leaving their mark on various planets, but eventually they come up with the idea of creating a cage, creating pandora... After all, the architecture of the First One’s ruins in SPOP and the various Eridian Ruins in the borderlands series aren’t super different. It’s reasonably possible that their stylistic design choices changed over time--whose hasn’t? Gothic architecture wasn’t hanging around from the dawn of human time. Anyway, we know that since they began building Pandora, the Eridians knew what it would entail. So when Nyriad killed them to power the Machine in the Pyre of the Stars, it’s not like they hadn’t prepared to die. The guardians, their own creations, have heath bars made entirely of shields, implying that they are beings not of flesh but of energy. And who wouldn’t want to at least attempt to preserve their culture, at least a shred of it? Many statues that are presumably in the Eridian’s likeness have only two arms, but some have more. And what energy-based lifeforms (from tales of arcadia) have a majority population with two arms, but a select special few with four? What is their planet called? AkiRIDIAN 5. It is implied that not even Nekrotafeyo, the Eridian’s home planet, is technically the place of their origination, so it’s not all that out of the question for them to make (and possibly fail at) a couple of planets they could put their extra-sentient lifeforms on. ‘Alright, We are called Eridians. This is the fifth planet we made for you. Have fun, we have to go die.’ How often is history not warped by time? Particularly the pronunciation of things? And of course if they’re starting over with a completely new place and no template to work off of, the architecture they come up with is not at al likely to resemble that of their progenitors. Also note that Luug and other Akiridian creatures seen, like those weird ass energy bugs, look fucking weird. You know what else looks fucking weird? The fauna of Nekrotafeyo. In this version, Mara’s story in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is the very distant early history of the Eridians, before even Nyriad, who is presumed to be very long-lived. The ancient history that the Eridians themselves left behind is in turn the prehistory of the people of Akiridian 5. And again, if u want, portal. That said, the end of SPOP S5, the end of BL3 (currently the latest borderlands game), and the end of the Tales of Arcadia series could not only exist in the same spacetime, but also at the same time. ---->This crackshit combines She ra, Borderlands, and Tales of Arcadia. (*portal optional)

Heya! I have a question for you. Scratch that, make that two.
For my first question, is your Horizon Zero Dawn Rottmnt Au still going on? Or did you scratch that?
If the answer is amping the lines of ‘yes it’s still going on’, then here’s my second question. How did the four turtle brothers end up in different tribes?
Thanks for reading this and have a great and wonderful day or night.
Oh now THIS is an exciting ask for me, I’ve been wanting to get back into the hzd au for a while LOL
So, yes! It’s still going on! I have quite a few drawings I want to finish up and upload all together once I get the chance (In fact, here’s a little sneak peak for ya)
Tumblr media
As for the second part, I almost wanna keep that a secret until I can put together a comprehensive guide to the au with nice art and stuff but, unfortunately, that’ll likely take me forever 😭 so I guess I’ll give you the general rundown, but it contains spoilers for the game so I’ll do it under a cut in case anyone’s avoiding that
So assuming you know everything about the game, due to some code in the Project Zero Dawn subordinate functions going haywire (~or mysteriously being deleted~) humans no longer exist. Mutants have taken their place as the dominant species on earth.
Splinter essentially takes the place of Elisabet Sobeck; and when HADES began taking control of GAIA, instead of ordering just one embryo to begin gestation in a cradle, she orders four, sending each to different cradles as a failsafe to make sure at least one of them will be able to rebuild the system and restore her in the future. She used a mix of Splinter’s dna and four different types of turtles for it, and that’s how the boys were born!
Raph was created in a cradle located in Ban-Ur, and subsequently found and raised by a werak of the Banuk tribe there. Donnie is born in a cradle found in The Claim, and is adopted by an Oseram family of Armadillos; April is his big sister! Leo is born in a Cradle from The Jewel, and when he’s eventually found by members of the Carja tribe, he’s taken to an orphanage in Meridian. And then Mikey’s beginning is very similar to Aloy’s, where he is born in the cradle known as All-Mother Mountain, and given to Rost to raise as an outcast.

More Horizon Zero Dawn AUs
NOTE: IDK why but I just really like making Aloy powerful and giving the world the knowledge it deserves. Well I do know the reason why I do the second one because fuck Ted Faro
ROYAL GODS AU
Took some inspiration from Warhammer (the god emperor part), I don't know much about it though.
In this AU Ted didn't fuck everyone over (he tried and failed). APOLLO did malfunction for some cradles, however. The parts of the world that are technologically advanced have already colonized other planets and solar systems by the time HZD happens. Rost was the previous 'God Emperor' of the Twilight empire (known to his people as Rost the Great; If you can't already tell the moon is an important part of the empire's culture and I thought it be cool to see a society worship mainly the moon and view the moon as more important than the sun) and took Aloy from the Nora when he discovered them attempting to kill her as an infant. He still dies protecting Aloy however, only Aloy is much younger (age 7) and everything happens much faster because she has an entire empire that wants the people responsible for their beloved emperor dead. When Rost dies he transfers all of his godly abilities to Aloy but wishes for her to become an eternal empress which comes true. By doing this he made Aloy immortal. She can also give the gift of immortality to whoever she pleases and can give them powers as well. During her first visit to GAIA Prime Aloy wakes up the Alpha's and they help put a stop to HADES.
Since she is too young to take the throne, her Aunt Minerva becomes the Empress. She continues to teach Aloy about their empire and how to be a leader so Aloy can take the throne once she steps down. A few years after defeating HADES, Aloy being Rost's only child and heir, Aloy is crowned the 'God Empress' of the Twilight Empire and becomes the most powerful woman not only on the planet but all of the Earth colonies across the galaxy (aged 17). Around this time is when GAIA is rebuilt. To her people, she is known as Empress Aloy Kassandra Sobeck or Aloy the Just among other nicknames. Because Elisabet is her 'mother' she is known as Duchess Elisabet Sobeck . The other Alpha's have been given the titles such as duchess/duke as well. GAIA also has the title duchess because fuck it why not. Shortly after getting GAIA back to full strength, Aloy and Varl get married (they had been betrothed since before they could even walk and yes Varl is a prince in this AU; aged 18). Varl has a head full of dreads along with a stubble beard. Also, Aloy has a slight accent (she has the same accent as the natives in the game GreedFall) that becomes more noticeable the more excited she gets because why not and also the seat of the empire is in modern-day Ireland.(May come back and add some more stuff)
AU WHERE ELISABET ADOPTES ALOY'S 5 FRIENDS AND A TODDLER THAT ALOY STOLE OR HZD WITH SOME HARRY POTTER ELEMENTS
Aloy was kidnapped when she was a baby because the Sobeck's of this earth are an ancient and extremely powerful line of Oscoris ( sco-ris ; multiversal magic) users before the events leading up to HZD (she was born when Lis was in her early twenties/late teens) by the mysterious company [I really need to come up with a name for them] and was experimented on. Later she returned to her home universe (for her it was only six years, not the twenty-seven years it was for Elisabet), along with her teammates and a toddler she stole. Elisabet never had to sacrifice herself for everyone's safety because she used her oscoris to seal the doors and then everyone was put in cryostasis. Nearly 1000 years later, THEEYANA (a powerful multiversal AI; kinda like a goddess) wakes Elisabet and the alpha's up when Aloy is unable to. Together they all stop HADES and rebuild GAIA with THEEYANA's help. THEEYANA starts taking large groups of humans and educating them on their past and more on magic and on oscoris. Eventually, after pulling some strings The Citadel agreed to help the people of this earth get to the point they should have been at. Aloy's teammates don't actually have real names; they go by code names or nicknames so Elisabet names them all. It should be noted that in this AU it's a tradition for a Sobeck to be named after a famous person from any mythology really or a celestial body. Example: Elisabet's middle name is Andromeda. (Yes the Sobeck's are kinda like the Black's from Harry Potter but they're not pureblood supremacists. Yes, they practice dark magic, but they practice all kinds of magic). Ted is still alive, but older now and was charged for his crimes against humanity. (Yes, I got inspiration from A Lightkeeper in The Dark)
THE KIDS NICKNAMES AND REAL NAMES, AGES, NOTES ABOUT THEM (3 girls and 3 boys):
Aloy- Atalanta Cassiopeia Sobeck, 7 yrs old; Aloy is just a nickname along with little huntress, little wolf ( only her mother can call her that), little duck (her grandma would call her that when she was still alive, sometimes Lis calls her it too but rarely), and a few others. She and her mother are the most powerful pureblooded oscoris users and the reason their oscoris is so powerful is because they are Vehreapollmen ( veh-ra-e-po-le-men; hellbeast ) hybrids and not totally human (Elisabet is something like one 15th human and Aloy is like one 20th human).
Bomber- Achilles Rigel Sobeck, 8 yrs old; he's known for making bombs and breaking into things. He mostly goes by Rigel.
Huey- Leo Endymion Sobeck, 5 yrs old; the shyest out of all them.
Mini Gaia- Bellatrix (Bella) Cyrene Sobeck, 6 yrs old; third oldest behind Aloy and Achilles, was called Mini Gaia as a joke because she looks so much like GAIA the AI and she absolutely hates it. She was actually given the name Bellatrix by Aloy and then the name Cyrene by Elisabet after Aloy introduced Bella to her mother.
Daisy- Pandora Lyra Sobeck, 2 yrs old; she's the youngest and most well behaved out of all of them,
Delta - Draco Oisín (oh-SHEEN ) Sobek, 4 yrs old; second youngest out of all of them and by far the most talkative
All of them are insanely protective of their mother. Basically, this AU is just Elisabet Sobeck adopts 5 homicidal former child soldiers who have never been shown any affection, then proceeds to give them all the love in the world. That being said she is not fazed one bit when she finds out that one of her kids tried to kill somebody because she expects it to happen. She would be surprised if they didn't try and kill someone. When this happens Lis gets this deadpan look and just goes "Again? It's not even lunch yet!" Later on Elisabet would go on to have twin boys when Aloy is 14 and the kids are really protective of their new baby brothers. (I may come back and add some more stuff)

Now I might be thinking up a modern HZD AU, with Liz and GAIA still dead (for the angst), but the other Alphas are around to be surrogate aunts and uncles to Aloy.
And then I realized something. While the Hades and Hephaestus functions hate Aloy and want her dead, Travis and Margo would have ADORED her. Like Travis would 100% have spoiled the shit out of her (and try to be a terrible influence), and Margo would have hugged her every chance she saw her and made sure she got into the best engineering and robotics programs in the world.
And now I can't stop laughing because I imagined them taking Aloy to lunch one day, and them running in to Nil, and Travis goes into overprotective uncle mode and tries to out wierd Nil to scare him away from Aloy.
