Okay, calling this DONE. I’m not 100% sure about the “Mega”/Veiled form of Hexerba, but I fit the palette/concepts in that I wanted to, and then some, got some value balance that mostly keeps it from turning into a formless blob, and I can always chuckle about the silhouette. CX Somehow incomplete Hop-Dex entry below the cut; it has general line info, minus the Veiled form which is still in fluid development. @v@;

Most Chubex and Hexerba live near and in the Western Dunes, with the former typically sheltering in dens based in rocky outcrops, more often than not, covered by sand. All stages of this line are avid tunnelers and the surface-dwelling 2nd-stagers usually do well enough to provide for their young that stay protected in their chambers and tunnels.

Being a subterranean stage, it's uncommon to find one of these topside, but if one does, it will find Chubex with its eyes shut as the overworld is far too bright. The baby tunnel-dweller will rely on its sharp ears to detect possible threats, and upon pinpointing one, will face it directly, and begin to tilt its head side-to-side, its ears rocking rhythmically with the motion, in a metronome-like pattern.

This doesn't actually do anything, but usually distracts the would-be-predator long enough for either the baby to find an escape route or for a parent to find it. At this stage, Chubex is still in the midst of mastering its Psychic abilities, but predators can never be sure where a little one is in this learning process, as their aptitudes vary widely, hence the repeated success of this trick over countless generations.

Dick: And you might not be aware but you unconconscious behavior is damaging. Tim has picked up your terrible habit of constantly working in front of a screen-it’s going to strain his eyes. He’s always inside too, so you need to make him go outside more. I’m not always here, I have an entire city to run, the titans need me, I'm mentoring hundreds of heroes, the Justice League calls on me to help them, and I need to keep up with my social life. The people in Bludhaven where I teach and work also call me if I’m gone for a day-the point is-I can’t always be playing second parent here in Gotham.

Dick: Damian always looks up to you

Bruce: *side eyes*

Dick: He does! See you don’t even realize it! He wants to make you proud and Jason gets mad when you don’t make time for him because he cares too. The cushions are strewn and ripped with stuffing coating the couches and floor which for some reason is stained yellow, the flower vase is shattered and so is the table it was sitting on, there’s string confetti on the chandelier, there’s spray paint and neon goo across the walls and in Tim’s hair, Jason has deep claw marks down his face as he wrestles with Damian who’s sporting massive bruise on his cheek and trying his hardest to bite him, Stephanie is dunking Tim’s face in a tub of soda which splashed everywhere while he’s ripping out Jason’s hair and also trying to kick Damian with his foot, the tv has massive spiderwebs and looping on tellatubies like a broken record machine, Titus is spitting out a feather while a random goose runs around honking while Alfred the cat chases after it at full speed, knocking down decades old paintings.*

Concessions Time! At this point, it’s more for closure and finishing what I started. They do look fun, and I enjoyed playing with different ideas, but for my mental health, I’m dialing back my hopes for designing Fakemon that “look like Pokémon”. ^^;

A Ground-type First-Stager that lives in sandy dens takes on Electric typing with fulgurite-inspired lower legs, drastically simplified and yellowed/electricity-fied for design convention reasons. @v@; Also changed the blues from earlier to yellow, because with the new pose, alterations and polishing, it was hard to make the contrast and hue balances work without making changes that gave Hexerba a more “Ice-type” vibe.

I do want to bring the blue back in a third-ish stage, though... more on that later. XP

WIP Time! Quite a bit of polishing to do of course, but this is a comparison for my Chubex re-redesign. The above row — completed just earlier this year — is cute and a lot cleaner than its predecessor from 2014, but again, I’m trying to make designs that feel less like generic fantasy creatures and more like Pokémon.

Hopefully this is a big step in the right direction; it certainly feels more unique, as I’ve made some major shifts in what inspires the design. More on that in the final post (coming... someday... ^^’) Right now, all we need to know is that the visual basis of this Pokémon is deliberately mish-mashed and super-vague.

Update Time! I added a second image up there, with a concept for Chubex’s evolved form, Hexerba. Originally, this line was Ground→Ground-Psychic, but is now Ground-Electric, along with a lot of other instances of rewiring — no pun intended. Colors have plenty of time to be tweaked, this is just a first pass, but I’m putting it here before I forget (The pose needs work, absolutely, I was going for mid-jump like its leaping ahead here, but it does not have that energy at all).

I’m overthinking this, and Google results aren’t helping; maybe you guys can answer this for me. When someone looks at a Fakemon design and says “it looks like a Temtem”, should the designer take that as a compliment, an insult, or just a neutral observation one should stop taking so personally?

After finishing the Pokemon Type Challege I decided to add a third half lion pokemon to my Duo and make them a Trio.

CRYOSFINX [Cryo-Criosphinx] -Ice -The Frozen Horns Pokemon -Ability: Snow Cloack - Refrigerate(HA) -Dex: “It inhabits the very top of Kroel mountains where snow never melts. Its horns and wings are always frozen at sub zero temperatures, getting touched by them can cause instantaneous frostbite..“ -Megahorn -Ice Fang -Avalanche -Noble Roar

MANTIQUORTZ [Manticore-Quartz] -Rock -The Rocky Stinger Pokemon -Ability: Strong Jaw - Rock Head(HA) -Dex: “It inhabits the lower rocky sides of the mountains, living inside the caves and tunnels. A powerful blow from is stinger can incapacitate any prey, but even at a distance it can shoot sharp shards from the tip, as strong and fast as a bullet.“ -Head Smash -Crunch -Rock Blast -Stealth Rock

GAJASILICA [Gajasimha-Silicate] -Ground -The Sandy Tusk Pokemon -Ability: Sand Rush - Sand Force(HA) -Dex: “It inhabits the sandy dunes at the base of the mountain. It's body is always covered in sand, to the point where one cant tell where the sand ends and the pokemon begins. It has a gentle nature, but can become really violent when provoked. “ -Earth Power -Scorching Sands -Mud Bomb -Sandstorm

This three pokemon are mortal enemies of each other, they keep themselves to their territories to avoid any conflict, but if they cross paths they will figh until only one remains standing.

While CRYOSFINX is based on the egyptian Criosphinx and MANTIQUORTZ is based on the persian Manticore, GJASILICA is based on the indian Gajasimha, a creature with the body of a lion and the head of an elephant

Progress Report - 4/29/24

hello and happy birthday!

...is how this was going to start when I intended to post it this past Friday. But I spent my birthday as a side character in the hit 1996 movie Twister. By which I mean there was a really big tornadoful storm here, the likes of which I've never seen before. It's never a fun time when the words "historic" and "record-breaking" are involved.

But anyway! My birthday was a few days ago, and to celebrate I have a slightly belated gift for all of you!

A release date

That's right, we're back in business here in Speakerland 😁 I'm so relieved to finally return to some semblance of normalcy, and I'm very hopeful that I'll be able to get back to doing regular monthly updates again.

As for this one, the update will be going up on Patreon TONIGHT! I'll be uploading that momentarily, in fact. That means that, barring any strange game-breaking bugs or overly tangled code, the update will be out for public release on Tuesday, May 7th!

I just want to thank everyone one more time for your patience, and for all the messages of support 💙 it really does mean the world to me.
