Alear (gonna talk about f!Alear specifically here because I have no experience with m!Alear) has impeccable Nice Big Sister Energy. Like, she's a nice person who willingly engages in other people's bits (see: Alear-Zelkov A, Alear-Pandreo A, Alear-Etie A) but when it comes to — you know what I'm just gonna leave the rest of this spoilery post (like, near-endgame spoilers) below the cut.

Okay so when it comes to younger characters like Framme and Clanne or Jean or Anna or Hortensia, Alear takes on a very different tone, but not a patronizing one at all. She's talking and giving advice from a position of knowledge but she never, ever preaches to them or tries to place herself as unassailable, or even someone that should necessarily be obeyed. She just cares and wants them to be happy and healthy, and not in an authoritative parental way, more in a concerned sororal way.

And this all makes sense because she IS a big sister! She has been this WHOLE TIME. It's a totally explicable part of her character that's seeded really early in the game and almost only in supports! And when she finally DOES have supports with her actual little sister, she talks to her in pretty much the same way!

I just think it's really cool. Alear's one of my favorite fire emblem lords just because of how interesting she is — like a fun, more coherent, expanded version of Robin, Corrin, and Byleth's characterizations combined. She has amnesia — but then we learn what kind of person she was before the memory loss! She's committed to peace — but she'll never fall for the same trick twice, and she shows no mercy when people try! She's helpful and kind and loved by all her allies — but she actually has spoken lines!

Anyway, I really like Alear. I really like all the characters in Engage! It's kind of a mystery — there are some characters in all of the FEs I've played that I just think are kinda meh or downright annoying, but not in this game. The most I've got is feeling violently neutral toward Mauvier. Which is better than I feel about Jakob. Or Gilbert. Or Tharja.

Anyway play fire emblem engage it's super polished and good.
