In the lush depths of South America's wetlands, the Capybara reigns as the gentle giant of the rodent world. Yet, beneath its cuddly exterior lies a link to a bygone era of colossal creatures. Discovered in Uruguay, paleontologists unearthed an ancient behemoth that once roamed the continent, overshadowing even modern Capybaras. Estimates suggest it weighed up to 1,000 kilograms, akin to a small car. Its colossal size would have made it a formidable creature and has earned it the title of the largest rodent ever known. With recent discoveries shedding new light on its existence, the tale of these prehistoric giant rodents captivates our imagination and underscores the rich biodiversity of the region.
Known as the Jarkov Mammoth, this specimen was found in Siberia. The 23 tonne block of mud and ice was lifted to an ice cave where the mammoth inside was recovered and studied.
every single animal in this comic is extinct. it's not too late for the ones that are left.
edit: thanks @mudcrabmassacre for the correction, smilodon fatalis did not in fact go extinct in 1023 AD. the actual prediction is around 10,000 years ago - I think i may have missed a zero or two.
