The crowned king of smashing guitars is none other than The Who’s Pete Townshend. In a sense he was the godfather of guitar smashing on stage. The year was 1964. The Who were playing a small pub in London known as the Railway Tavern in Harrow and Wealdstone. At some point, Townshend’s Rickenbacker headstock hit the venue’s low ceiling, cracking it with a thud. When Townshend saw that none of the other band members seemed to notice or care, he decided to make it noticeable and smashed the guitar to the floor and against his amp, shattering it to pieces. And thus began a decades-long destructive affair between Pete and his many guitars.

Townshend would go on to smash more guitars on more stages in more countries the world over than any guitarist in rock ‘n’ roll history. He set the bar high on the act, performing it with an intensity and poetic presentation that bordered on dance. He would often raise his Gibson or Fender high over his head, holding it to the sky - a kind of sacrifice to the muse, to the crowd, to the moment. From there, the smashing took many directions. From bouncing the bottom of the body at the strap-button end off the stage over and over, to wielding it like an axe and chopping down a mic stand, to ramming it over and over into the drum stand or into a tower of speakers, Townshend made each guitar smashing an unforgettable moment for the audience.

In 2020, Roger Daltrey, the lead singer of The Who, perhaps with mischief in mind, said that Pete Townshend would creep around the stage collecting up all the bits of smashed guitars so he could glue them back together again. Which on the face of it wasn’t very rock’n’roll. It gets worse. According to Daltrey, to make it easier to repair his broken guitars, Townshend went to great lengths to smash them up as carefully as possible.

On the How to Wow podcast, Daltrey revealed the careful process behind Townshend’s destruction. “They were real guitars, but we worked out very cleverly that very rarely did the neck break. As long as the neck didn’t break, you could glue the body back,” he said. But Daltrey did charitably add that also pointed out: “It was costly in glue.” Fans of Townshend believed that Daltrey was deliberately trying to sabotage Townshend’s reputation. The pair interacted as little as possible during their time together and especially since the band broke up, doing separate interviews, having separate backstage areas at concerts and even recording entire albums without seeing each other.

However the story has a ring of truth to it. Pete Townshend once confessed inhis autobiography that, “The Who got paid 4000 pounds during those days, but we always smashed our equipment that cost more than 5000 pounds.“ Listen, it’s important to remember that even rock stars are people, and they have to deal with the same mundanities as the rest of us. Why Townshend had to glue all his guitars back together was because it was expensive to replace the smashed guitars and The Who were as frugal as they came.

In any case Townshend helped to set in stone one of rock’n’ roll’s defining images, the art of guitar smashing, unlike any other musical genre. In doing so he paved the way for the likes of other legendary guitarists like Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix to smash their guitars during their live performances on stage.

Switcheroo Brainstorming

I'm making an role reversal au! I'm going to post this along with my posts for Viva, Poppy, and Branch specifically, which you can find by clicking on their names! Here's some ideas I have:

So Branch and Poppy are basically going to be full-on switching lines, though their backstories will be very different cause... it's kinda hard to replace 4 people with 1 sister and a father. So band together is going to be the most different! More details in the individual posts for the characters

I want "Better Place" to be replaced with "It Takes Two" for the final confrontation in TBT :)

Not all characters are going to be switch 1-to-1. Again, the brothers are going to be hard to switch for. Also, not all characters readily have someone to replace them with

There will be a lot of trollstopia characters that will be in the world tour switch, but they'll mostly have the personalities of the trolls they switch with so watching the show isn't a must (But i still recommend both shows, they're pretty fun!)

Most of the troll tribe leaders will be replaced with a trollstopia character, EXCEPT for Queen Essence and King Quincy cause I need them to be in those roles. They'll just change lines and outfits maybe?

I have no idea what to do with the bounty hunters so if you have a recommendation id love to hear it!

There's not much to say other than character switches which will be put under the cut cause it'll be a long list. If you have any recommendations or questions, hit up my ask box!

For the techno trolls it's going to be a triangle. Laguna-> Trollex -> Synth -> Laguna. The reason for this is changing Trollex and Synth would be too similar, and would leave Laguna with no one (Except for Bliss Marina)

IMPORTANT!!! PLS READ I NEED ASSISTANCE!!!

This is gonna be long bare with me, So for context this annon is requesting a part two of my fic where reader surprises the TWST boys by speaking their native tongue and I reallyyy wanna write this but I have a few issues especially with the Savannah claw boys.

The issues are:

1. Ruggie and Leona are twisted of the hyenas and Scar from Lion king, and Lion king was set in the pride lands of Africa, which is where sunset savanna is twisted from. I’ve done a bit of researching and there are over 2000-3000 estimated languages spoke in the country of Africa, although there 5 main languages spoken (Swahili, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Zulu) I still don’t know which one I should use and I’d like to clarify that I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ANY OF THESE LANGUAGES so I am very careful not to write without consulting someone who speaks the language(s) fluently.

2. Jack Howl, we all know that he maybe twisted from Jack London’s “White Fang” novel, which featured a white wild wolfdog, I did my research yet again, and these animals are found in Europe and North America, so I’m yet again confused with what language Jack speaks…

3. I’ve said this in the first fic, and this one, but I will say it again, I am not fluent nor do I even know how to speak these languages, When I wrote the first part, I had assistance from people who spoke the language fluently, and I’m very thankful for them, however in this request I do not know anyone who speaks any of the languages in Africa, European, or even Italian. I want to write it but my top priority is being careful of not disrespecting other people’s cultures and languages. I am writer and I want to make my work as respectful and as comfortable for everyone to read even if it’s just a fanfic.

—Summary: What I’m saying here is that I need someone to help me, if you speak any of the languages mentioned in the thread FLUENTLY or if you are a native speaker please dm me, I know this is a bit too much just for a fic but I’d rather go through all this work and research than to write a fic and use phrases from a language I do not speak and accidentally offend people who speak those languages.

World Lion Day

World Lion Day on August 10 aims to raise awareness about the plight faced by lions. Scientifically known as ‘Panthero Leo,’ lions are one of the most well-known and popular animal species out there. They are called the ‘Kings of the Jungle’ due to their arresting and fearsome personalities created by their great bodies and heavy, shiny manes. A lion’s powerful roar is second to none, and it can be heard even five miles away. Owing to the pop culture icons like Simba from “The Lion King”, lions are also loved by children. However, while lions existed in large populations 100 years ago, today, their numbers are just below 50,000 worldwide as a result of poaching and hunting. World Lion Day, therefore, brings attention to this endangered species by raising funds and amping up protective measures.

History of World Lion Day

The first World Lion Day came into being in 2013. It was headed by Dereck and Beverly Joubert, a couple who are passionate about preservation and wild cats. After realizing that lion populations have drastically decreased worldwide, the Jouberts approached “National Geographic” for the brand’s help. Forming a partnership with them, the couple came up with the Big Cat Initiative (B.C.I.) in 2009. The B.C.I.’s main goal would be to protect and preserve the remaining lion species in the world. While aspects like deforestation, climate change, and human intervention may have impacted lion populations, studies have shown that their extremely low numbers may also have to do with ice ages and natural environmental disasters that have led them to becoming secluded in only a few countries of the world, namely India and South Africa. To date, the B.C.I. has made substantial leaps, from getting 150+ grant awards to reducing almost 3,000 threats to 3,000 wild cats to removing 13,000 life-threatening snares.

The lion comes from the ‘Felidae’ family of cats, and it is considered to be an apex predator. It is the second-largest cat weighing around 300 to 600 pounds, with the first being its cousin, the tiger. An average lion’s body is muscular with a short round head and ears, and a tufty tail. Its sex can be identified through its heavy and luscious mane, which are absent on lionesses. Lions also happen to be the only cats who roam around in large groups known as prides. Scientists believe that lions do so because it is easier to catch prey in the wild. Their natural habitats are savannas and grasslands. You will most likely find a pride of lions near water bodies as they strategically wait for prey to come there for a drink and then pounce on them.

“People keep saying that it is a blood diamond but I think she chose the stone out of the collection left from Diana and had it turned into a pinky ring. If it was a blood diamond we would never see her wear it again...like those earrings. She is dumb but not stupid.”

Pinky ring was part of a set of 3 loose emerald cut diamonds she received as a wedding present. She sent them off to celeb jeweller of the moment, Lorraine Schwartz, and had them set. 1 diamond as the pinky ring and the other 2 are a pair of earrings she has worn on/off. They have a detachable black onyx backing (lion king premiere earrings).

The DM started asking questions of its provenance when it featured on the time cover and when she wore it on their wannabe royal visit/tour of NYC. She stopped wearing it (publicly) for a while after that but clearly it’s something she wears frequently - like the Saudi earrings, she doesn’t actually give a crap about provenance and diplomacy and now she’s technically a “private citizen” she doesn’t even have to pretend to remotely care about any of that anymore.

On her right hand is another, larger diamond pinky ring; as Page Six Style revealed in October, celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz fashioned the piece out of a gift of diamonds that the couple received from the Middle East.

Multiple sources have confirmed to us that the gift initially arrived for Harry, but that the Duke of Sussex then gave it to his wife, who turned to Schwartz to rework them.
