pairings: five hargreeves x speedster!fem!reader

synopsis: After finally leaving Dallas, Texas 1963, you and the Hargreeves come back to another seemingly disastrous problem.

notes: five did time travel, he did see the apocalypse, but was able to return as soon as he saw the date, therefore making him the same age as everyone else, including yourself. and he doesn't look like he's thirteen, he's just genuinely shorter than the rest of the academy, like he's tall, just not enough to be 'tall' tall.

disclaimer: five is above 18 in all my fics unless stated otherwise

You all landed in what seemed to be the Academy's living room. You all saw a Ben look alike walked into the room, and six other people, well five people and a cube, on the second floor balcony. “Dad? Who the hell are these assholes?”

“Shit” the Umbrellas said at the same time as you said “Ah shit.” You all look at each other, few words here and there and now you were fighting. Being the speedster of the group, you obviously had a high advantage on speed. Well, assuming you were the only one with speed advantages.

“Then we'll have to settle this the old-fashioned way.” the buff dark skinned man said. “Look, we just fought a literal army. Okay? This doesn't need to get ugly. Let's all just calm down and let's talk.”

Klaus then proceeded to talk, you didn't really pay attention to it. Mainly because Five's grip on your waist seemed to tell you that you should be wary and prop up your speed. So your focus was mainly on the random scarlet dressed people. Sooner or later, there was a fight. You and Luther took stance as the Marcus guy attacked. You sped around him and started to form a vaccum made of air, which theoretically, if he was as strong as Luther, he couldn't punch through.

“Luther, help the others! I'll get this one!” you yelled, speeding around him until you took your scarf and tied him to someone else. “Hopefully, he'll be too scared to break out cause he'll hurt whoever the hell this blonde bitch i tied him to anyways.” you thought. Ben then decides to attack you, from behind. Coward position, but smart anyways. Before he could, Five jumps to your rescue. “Tentacles off her, asshole!” he yells, jumping behind him to strangle him. “[Name], darling watch your fucking back! I swear to god!” Five scolds you. You speed here and there fighting the bird lady, yelling “I don't have eyes in the back of my head, honey! But clearly this blind bird bitch does!”

“[Name], Diego needs help! He's floating with the cube thing!” Allison called out. You reached Diego and thought on how to save him. You figured maybe if you ran fast enough, you could run up the walls, turn and jump to him grabbing him in the process. “Who's your daddy? I'm your daddy! Who's—” he lands a punch, “your—” another punch, “daddy!—” and another.

“It's now or never.” you successfully did your rescue trick and soon find Five with Ben, and head straight with him, running to Allison, seeing Klaus in the air, wrapped around tentacles, Diego throwing knives at the cube, and Vanya with paintings. You would have helped them, but at the moment, Allison was in a vulnerable position. Five jumps in, takes Allison and you sped the dude to a pillar, grabbing anything to tie him and tied him to it.

“Thanks.”

“No problem.” Five said. “Hey, short stack. What's up?” the black haired woman greeted. “Allison, you go ahead and help the others. We got this.” you said. “What are you two? Their mascots?” you scoff. “Aha, no. I'm not. More of just an extra addition, thanks for thinking so highly of me, though!” you sarcastically said, smiling your condescending smile. Five jumps behind her and lands a hard punch on her face. “Depends on who you're talking to. I'm more of their ringer.”

You quickly notice her get up, shoot her gross mouth liquid, and ran Five out of the way, and then proceeded to speed around her, making her dizzy. “None of that, alright? That's gross and not needed on Five's gorgeous face.” you warned. “What in the actual fuc-”

Not even five minutes later, you all were running down to halls to the exits. But Five doesn't leave until he gets the briefcase, to no avail. Only finding a few of the so called sparrows, on to Vanya. As soon as Vanya went all Vanya-bomb, Five soacial jumped away to you. Before you could leave, you held the finger to the black haired liquid lady. “Asshole!”

You all find your way to a few benches, sat down and started to talk. Everyone spoke with each other, but you were silent, head on Five's shoulder. Again you paid no attention to the conversation. Atleast not until Five said something. “Okay, the next person to say dickhead is getting a punch to the throat.”

All of them, even you, knew he wouldn't. So to mess with him, you all said 'dickhead' and just laughed as Five kissed your temple, slightly smiling even if he was worried on what's going on with this version of 2019.

Assuming there is a season 4 of the Umbrella Academy, here is what I think all the main characters’ arcs are going to be about:

- Lila and Diego: I’m assuming there will be a time jump between season 3 and 4, probably a few months. That means Lila will be near the end of her pregnancy or have a newborn baby, and their arc is going to revolve around them panicking over being parents.

- Luther: Searching for Sloane. Assuming she exists in this universe, I predict that he’ll find her but she won’t have any idea of who he is, and Luther will spend the first part of the season trying to rekindle their relationship.

- Allison: I’m assuming she’s trapped in some type of artificially made dimension? Kinda like WandaVision, where she’s living in a false reality to cope with her pain. Over time, I’m assuming Allison will become more and more dissatisfied by this false reality as she notices that Claire and Ray don’t act like real people but rather just do whatever makes Allison happy. I predict the rest of the Umbrella Academy will find a way to help Allison break out of this false world and rejoin them in the real one.

- Klaus: I think Klaus will have a really hard time coping with the fact that he’s no longer immortal. I think the fact that the Void was the only place where he didn’t feel like a freak or an outcast is going to impact him pretty heavily. In season 1, he used drugs in order to drown out the ghosts. In season 4, I think he’s going to be looking for a way to cope with the loneliness now that he can’t see the dead and the world still sees him as a outsider.

- Five: I think he will find that he really does depend on doomsdays and apocalypses to give his life purpose (as multiple people commented on in season 3). He will also find it extremely annoying trying to live his life while everyone perceives him as a teenager, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up staying with another member of the team just because he can’t get an apartment or housing while looking like a teenager (if this happens, I think he’s most likely to stay with Viktor). I think that Five will be the first person to become obsessed with getting their powers back, because Five needs something — ANYTHING — to focus on now that there is no doomsday.

- Ben: I think we will encounter both Sparrow Ben and Umbrella Ben in season 4 (since we saw a second Ben on a Korean train during the credits). I think Sparrow Ben will be focused on finding a new purpose and a new group of people to belong with. I have no idea what Umbrella Ben will be up to, but I imagine that Sparrow Ben will have an identity crisis upon meeting Umbrella Ben because he was compared so much to his counterpart in season 3. I hope Sparrow Ben spends time reflecting on his relationship with the rest of the Sparrows so we get more information on Marcus, Christopher, Fei, etc. Also, tell us what the Jennifer Incident is!!!!!

- Viktor: he will miss Allison the most out of everyone. I think Viktor will play a huge part in saving Allison from her false reality, and hopefully — HOPEFULLY — the two will have a proper conversation where they can sort out their differences. Even if things aren’t the same between them, I hope they can at least understand each other again. I think he will also have a moment where he’s like “man, I spent my whole childhood thinking I didn’t have powers, but then it turns out I did, but now I really don’t have powers!! I’m back to square one!!!”

It seems like the villain of the series is going to be their dad. I think all the main crew will realize that this new reality is very corrupt and strange because Hargreaves owns everything, and the siblings will have to unite once again in order to get their powers back and stop their dictator dad.

Superheroes with disabilities are great. But I'm kinda tired of heroes with powers that basically fix their disability. For example:

Toph Beifong - blind, but can detect anything touching the ground with high precision through seismic sense

Fei Hargreaves - blind, but can see through the eyes of her crows

Matt Murdock - blind, but his radar sense effectively gives him 360° vision

Wade Wilson - terminally ill, but his healing powers keep him functioning

Victor Stone - prosthetic limbs contain weapons and grant superhuman strength, speed, and endurance

Warren Worthington - broken wings render him unable to fly, like everyone else

You might notice blindness and superhuman senses are a popular combination.

Obviously, these powers don't eliminate the disability. Deadpool is still disfigured and probably would deal with chronic pain if he didn't have such a high pain tolerance. Toph and Daredevil still need help reading. But I want superheroes whose disabilities are unrelated to their powers, like these:

Clint Barton - deafness not mitigated by martial training or superhuman reflexes

Charles Xavier - telepathy and mind-reading don't get him out of his wheelchair

Kurt Wagner - limb differences; and his visual appearance could be considered a disability, as it makes him struggle to fit in common society; neither is related to his teleportation powers

I'm not saying linking superpowers to disabilities is bad. I love Toph, and I've used ideas like these in my own stories. I'm saying we should use the trope less, so we can show these characters living with their disabilities rather than handwaving them away.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 was um... Well it was something I'll give them that. Spoilers warning.

I felt like all the Umbrellas became really annoying like they just become the worst versions of themselves. Luther feels like he got dumber or poorer at making decisions, Five got more egocentric, Klaus even more irresponsible. Also speaking of that, the amount of stupidity that they display is astounding. Like they kept asking Ben stuff that only their own Ben would know and expects him to get it, well of course he's gonna be mad. They also kinda provoked the Sparrows into the first fight by saying stuff like this was their house and whatever as if they don't understand that changing stuff in the pass changes things in the future. Don't get me started on how Allison still expected to find Claire and even how she managed to get in to Patrick's house in the first place. The cherry on top was also her downward spiral to villainy (yes, even as an Allison fan in the previous seasons, one has to admit that she is the Villain now and I'm guessing also the villain for season 4). She became extremely unlikeable. Not to mention *that* horrific moment.

Also the Sparrows were such a wasted potential. They were hyped up only to have half die off by episode 5 or 6. I don't get why people like Sloane so much. She's the most generic 'nice girl next door' with a Juliette complex ever. Her personality is mostly just being nice. At least she's really smart. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate her, I just don't live for her. And I find her and Luther's love story to be extremely rushed and two dimensional. But hey at least it's not as problematic or toxic as Allison and Luther. Jayme and Alphonso have cool concepts, but they also had problems. Idk if it's the acting but Jayme feels so robotic in any scenes that are not fight scenes. Alphonso is also pretty unlikable and his powers are inconsistent (but was never explained in the show why it's not consistent so it just makes it seem like plot armor). Marcus is... I don't even know what to do with this one since he got like 17 seconds of screen time. The only ones I actually like is Fei. She actually has a distinct personality; cold, calculating, smart, but underneath that veneer, someone who cares about her siblings. Also Christopher was alright, but cmon people, let's be real. He was a floating cube with no dialogues who got barely any screen time.

On top of that, I feel like most of the conflict in the series could easily be resolved by simply talking to each other. If Five told the family his plan, most of the fights would've never happened. Now don't get me wrong, I love me some dysfunctional family dynamics and I get that years of childhood trauma leaves a significant impact on your adult character, but it's been 3 seasons, at some point they gotta show some progress to character development. Why are they still so bad at communicating after 2 apocalypses?? Here they kinda feel like their Season 1 selves, slightly better or worst at that.

I love this series and I want to love this season but I just have so many gripes with it, well mostly just the annoying character regressions and a couple of 'this happened because it needed to happen don't ask questions' moments. Viktor Hargreaves being trans is like the least of the season's problem (also I don't get why people keep saying that the show makes a big deal of Viktor's transitioning when it was literally covered in like a couple minutes of dialogue). In fact Viktor's character is, dare I say, one of the ones that I actually like. He became reasonable but still compassionate. A perfect contrast to Allison's arc.

The season's not all bad. I think there were some touching moments and the Sparrows, as much of a disappointment they are, had awesome powers. Glad to know Reggie's motives and why he build the hotel etc. Idk I have mixed feelings about this season. Hopefully season 4 would be better.

Edit I can't believe I forgot arguably the best highlight of the season; the footloose dance sequence 👁👄👁

TL;DR season 3 was definitely *something*

Lunch Break

Alphonso Hargreaves x GN!Reader

For the hottest day of the year he still wore a long sleeve shirt and pants. His insecurities made you sad. He would never say it but he envied his siblings. They all were normal, or at least normal-er. Alphonso was many things, funny, charming and hell, even confident. But secure in his looks was not one of them. He got used to the way he looked but he never had those moments where he looked in the mirror and really admired himself.

You two had met on accident when he came to the antique shop where you worked. He needed space from his siblings, Fei, Ben, and Jayme were all so pessimistic and cold. Marcus and Christopher only ever wanted to work. And Sloane was doing whatever she did every day. He was alone and could finally breathe. The smell of old furniture and books was something he didn’t think he’d grow to love, but there you were. Cleaning antique lamps and trying to get the cigarette smell out of old carpets.

“You should try white vinegar and lavender oil-for the smell.” The shop was so quiet, his voice came out as a shout. Spooking you and knocking over your cleaning spray,

“Aw shit, I’m sorry. Let me help.”

Kneeling down by your side he reached for the ruined merchandise, now bleached with…bleach,

“Hey, you’re um, a sparrow right? I’m Y/n. Why are you here and not like saving the world?” He made eye contact, you didn’t look away from his features, you smiled softly and stood up. Alphonso followed you to the register and put the stuff on the counter, trying to play it cool,

“I’m on a break, just chillin’ ”

Oh god why did I say it like that

His eyes followed you around. You glanced at the clock and then back at him,

“Well I’m about to go on break, wanna break together?” Alphonso couldn’t believe it,

“Yes! But speaking of breaking, what about the stuff I ruined? Doesn’t that cost money?” His new friend just smiled and shrugged,

“I’ll figure it out when I get back, as of ten seconds ago I am no longer working.” You took off your name tag and walked past him through the shaded glass and into the sun.

The heat was nearly unbearable. It would’ve been worse if Alphonso hadn’t offered to buy you both ice cream to make up for the accident. While he payed the man you saw a giant ad across the street. 6 siblings.

No Alphonso.

“Why aren’t you up on the billboard with them?” He just laughed,

“Are you kidding? If they put my face on a bill board it would scare everyone away. Its bad for business.” You used your hand to block out the sun and glare at the gigantic advertisement for his brothers and sisters,

“Business or not, you’re their family and a part of the team. You deserve recognition for that, Alphie.” He seemed stunned by your words and stood quietly holding both your ice cream cones. He only stopped daydreaming when the dessert began to drip on his hand,

“Oh shit.” He laughed and licked the bit of ice cream off his wrist before handing you your cone.

The excursion ended when you walked the park length and made it back to the antique store. You both stood still not wanting to depart but not wanting to stay too long in fear of making it awkward,

“How’s you know about that trick with the cigarette smell?”

“My sister Fei used to smoke as a teen and would have me help her get rid of the smell.” You opened the door and kept your back to him,

“Come back again sometime, this was nice.”

“You’re late, where the hell were you?” Marcus ushered him inside,

“He was with someone.” Fei sneered. The siblings began asking questions and interrogating him about his afternoon off,

“Are they hot?” “Can we trust them?” “You didn’t talk to them did you?” “What makes you think they’re actually interested?”

“It’s not a big deal! I took a walk and lost track of time okay? Get off my back.” Number four let his siblings sit with their discomfort about this newcomer in their brothers life. It didn’t matter what they thought. Alphonso had plans already.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 was really fun! I enjoyed it. Thoughts under the cut. Very slight spoilers, but nothing too big. Kept things vague.

Still had a lot of issues with Victor's character, just different ways. In the first two seasons I really disliked him, and this season I felt he was called out for some of the stuff that happened before, but I'm coming out feeling very 'whatever' towards him now.

As a cis person I can't speak much on the trans storyline and how authentic it feels, but I liked how casual it was. I like how the rest of the family just rolled with it; it was just 'this is how it is, Victor is Victor' and that's that. I'm glad the writers chose to do that rather than hire someone else to play the character, and that Elliot Page chose to stay. I don't know if this was intentional, but the fact that Elliot kept the voice the same rather than deepening it? I found that to be a really cool detail of someone who's clearly in the beginning stages of their transition. I wonder if next season his voice will be deeper?

Diego and Klaus are still my faves, but while Diego actually feels like he's progressing in his character arc, Klaus, at least character wise, is starting to feel stagnant. His powers being explored was fun and interesting, but I hope we can see him actually start to deal with his inner demons in the next season. There's a risk he could potentially become just a characteracture rather than an actual character if they keep just doing what they're doing.

I can't stop imagining the season with Umbrella Ben and Sparrows Ben in the same room and Umbrella Ben just getting annoyed at this dick. 😂

Lila and Diego are the best. I will elaborate no further. Their entire storyline had me screaming into my pillow. I would watch an entire show just about them bickering. Lila remains my favourite character. I just want to hug her, but she'd probably stab me (I'd let her).

Luther, I actually enjoyed his storyline this season. He deserves the whole world. And his scenes with Sloane were very sweet, if not a bit cheesy. But sweet.

Five, don't have a lot to say about him. Other than he needs to get his siblings into an group chat so he can communicate with them. 😭

Allison, I've never liked her more. I've always liked her, but I liked her so much more this season. I know what she did was fucked, but it was also so interesting. Watching her get pushed further and further until she broke, and for good reason too. Her grief and rage over what she's lost. I definitely don't think she was a good person this season (that scene with her and Luther was a very low point, and there's no defending that 😬) but you still understand where she's coming from (mostly, again, that scene with her and Luther).

The Sparrows weren't that interesting. I'll admit I was a little worried with how they were going to handle it, but I think they did the right thing. A lot of shows make a mistake of putting in too many characters because they don't know what to do with the ones they still have, and I'm glad that TUA didn't do that. Fei's powers were so cool, though.

Finally, Reginald Hargreaves is insane. 😭

I can't wait for next season.

I have a few things to say about the new season of the umbrella academy

Diego and Lila slept together one (1) time so Lila wasn’t kidding when she said his boys swim fast

I love Stan with all my heart that poor baby

I don’t want to talk about it but Marcus made it look like being blitzed was v painful and he was a big strong muscle man so I don’t even want to think about how it felt to Stanley 🥲

Fei deserves so much more screen time she’s so badass wtf Jayme too

WHY DIDN’T THEY GIVE GENESIS A HISPANIC NAME AND LET HER SPEAK SPANISH

Luther isn’t a virgin he slept with that girl who thought he was a furry in season one???

Klaus just wanting to find his mom made me so sad and Five asking him if he knew anything about his mother made me more sad these poor kids

Allison was wildin’ but the whole Harlan thing was dumb and I hated it

I love Justin but he does not play sparrow Ben well imo I just think he doesn’t know how to play mean and that they wrote him terrible lines

A lot of the dialog was lackluster in general

Five and Lila beating the shit out of one another was not enough for them to just be cool with one another for me but her watching him be electrocuted and laughing helped

Finding out that Ben and Diego yelling at one another in Spanish and Korean was caused by David improvising is my favorite part of this season

I adore Diego’s confidence I used to think he was so cringe in season 1 tho lmao

I’d absolutely die to see Diego and Lila with a baby please don’t take that away from me and also let them adopt Stanley for the love of god
