I'm pretty sure this one is @ameliarating's fault, but then she did go and beta it for me too. Sometimes you set out to write smut and it ends up being about unresolved issues. And by that I mean mostly that's what happens, at least to me.

After spending most of its lifetime simply titled "bottom vegas fic" this almost ended up titled "shredded lettuce" after the Tumblr post reading "call my man shredded lettuce because he be a sub topping." Just so you know.

jason wakes up with a racing heart, scrambling away from you, whole body shaking and harsh pants leaving his mouth. you’re still blissfully sleeping, snuggled in blankets, while he stares at your relaxed face. 

it calms him, the tiny snores leaving your mouth, trying to match his frantic breathing to your slow one, anything to calm down. calm down, shake the nightmare off, but it lingers in his mind, the screams echoing in his mind— the pained screams of his victims and his own, hidden in darkness where the monster lumbers. 

he sits on the bed, the freezing air in his apartment cooling his feverish skin. he sits and waits for the morning to come, because— because jason knows he can’t fall asleep again, not when the terrors always seek him out the moment he closes his eyes. it’s always like this, the days close to 27th april, his death date. 

then he starts to hear screams and laughter, then he feels the flames on his skin while his body freezes slowly to death. then he dies,  once again, his dreams always so vivid, as if his heart acually stops beating.

it’s not like he sleeps much anyway, not with his night job, but nowadays he’s lucky when he gets a few hours of deep sleep.

with a sigh, he turns his attention back to you. your soft snores fill the silence in the room, body curled ever since he left your side. fuck, he doesn’t deserve you. your soft hands, your innocent and pure soul, how can he ever deserve your love? how can he let you hold him, when his hands are drenched in blood, how can he let you kiss him with his rotten mouth, how can he let you love him with his broken everything. it’s not just his soul, it’s also his mind, having seen too much, killing and destroying— it’s also his heart, oh so distrusting, branded by betrayals and deaths of loved ones. 

how can he be the one you love, him, nothing more but a criminal, a killer, a dead son. he doesn’t deserve you, never has and never will—

"why are you awake?" your raspy voice shakes him out of his spiraling thoughts. jason immediately grasps your reaching hand and presses a kiss on your warm skin. 

"you know how it is," he murmurs back, and you know, you know how jason suffers, how he’s plagued by nightmares. no matter what you do, he always wakes, leaving his side of the bed, leaving in fear of hurting you. and no matter how many times you reassure him, he doesn’t listen, oh so stubborn. 

instead you wiggle a bit, lowering the blanket, and open your arms, fully knowing jason can’t resist you. he doesn’t, carefully joining your hug, while he wraps his own arms around your body. with a satisfied hum, you snuggle closer. 

"i love you," you say, voice clear, and he shudders in your arms. "i love you so much." and then you peck his lips, again and again, until he finally leans onto the kisses. slow and sensitive, you try to show him how much you care, how much you love, letting him know— you’re here, and you won’t be leaving soon. 

you will stay until he’s better, until he’s at his best and worst, always by his side, a steady and loving presence in his life. 

you will stay, and everything is going to be okay, simply because you’re together.

It was the one I started the latest (just one week before the art submission deadline with none of the other ones finished) and the one I finished first ❤️ Hope one day I will be more capable of drawing the faces 😭
