Channeling Ms. Bombeck: Laughing is key to getting through troubling times. I met this author the first year I began workshopping at the Santa Barbara Writers Conference, 2003. Marilyn Regan Sachs, then in her 70s, read one of her stories early in that week and then remained in my workshop reading until we said our goodbyes. Erma Bombeck - esk voice, Marilyn was funny on the page, not easy to craft successfully. She said then if she ever decided to turn her slice of life vignettes into a collection, she would contact me to edit. We just clicked. Sure enough, she did contact me & for the last three years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with this tough ‘Irishman of a woman’ who instinctively goes for the light & the laugh, both learned early at the knee of her parents who are very much part of this newly published collection.
