My first thought as I spotted this in the used book section of the thriftstore, "Aw hell yeah, this looks exactly like the sort of book I would have read when I was a kid!"
My second thought as I picked this up and took it to the cashier, "I wonder if @godzilla-reads has read this book?"
My third thought as I gave the book a second look, after I had already left the store, "Oh, this is the second book in a series. Dammit."
Oh well, no problem. I'll look this series up on libby. It's not on libby. I'll try hoopla. Not on hoopla. Let's try bookshop.org. Looks like it's been out of print for like, 20 years, so it won't be directly on bookshop.org, so I'll just look it up on good old Thriftbooks. Ah, perfect! Thriftbooks has the whole series for super cheap, so I'll just get the rest of the books, they'll be here in a few days.
Alrighty, they're here! Love this cheesy 90s fantasy cover art. Books three and four look good!
Book one...doesn't look nearly as good. It's like somebody tried to draw Wayne Anderson's dragons from memory with their eyes half closed. Still, it's in good condition with sturdy binding so this will be good for reading.
Yooooo! Turns out this is a signed copy, which reads,
To Kay,
one of the good people
Larry Yep
5/10/89
And includes a fun little dragon doodle from presumably Larry himself.

Thinking about my childhood and the ‘Dragon of the Lost Sea’ series, a fantasy series by Laurence Yep heavily inspired by Chinese mythology (Monkey was there!) and how the ultimate main overarching antagonist of the series was “The Boneless King”... a guy who was literally a sheaf of human skin who could possess people.
Like.... he was just skin you guys.
Not even like a moist stretched out face-skin like Cassandra in Doctor Who, he was just a papery human skin who could like.... crawl around and couldn’t be killed by normal means.

Australiens (2014) [👎🆓]
En budgetstinkare från Australien. Går på komisk knock men svingar vilt i luften.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) [👍🔁]
Grease Live! (2016) [👍🎭🔁]
Hairspray Live! (2016) [👍🎭🔁]
Hocus Pocus 2 (2023) [👍🔁]
Hollywood! Vi vill ha en remake franchise!
Lair, the (2022) [__]
Lost City, the (2022) [👍🔁]
Love of Three Queens / L'amante di Paride (1954) [👎🆓]
Spretigt sömnpiller med Hedy Lamarr.
Mord i Venedig / A Haunting in Venice (2023) [👎]
Saga of the Viking Women and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent, the (1957) [🔁🆓]
Vikingraffel signerat Roger Corman.
Me like! Kommer antagligen ses igen.
Vidioten / UHF (1989) [__]

Best of 2022!
I haven’t done one of these in a while, and I felt like I should do a simple art collage for all the shows and movies I’ve seen this year. I think this was a good year for animation despite the bumps on the roads. Ready for 2023!
Update: I forgot to add The House ,another great film.

Still slowly making my way through Laurence Yep's Dragon of the Lost Sea series. My hunch was correct and this is exactly the kind of book I would have loved as a kid, as well as a book with a dragon on the cover and in the title where the dragon is a main character and not just a side character, or worse...the fantasy equivalent of a semi-sentient muscle car. *shudders*
