The inky fingerprints it leaves, they smudge the edges of her vision. They paint her galaxies of stars with oil slick seeping through her radar scans, her code.

And there's a sharpness to her now, too little patience for the world that swirls around her down the drain, those mortal lives too short, too meaningless to count. Unwelcome thoughts that spur her on to let the night consume her with its secrets.

But there's still something else, the goosebumps on her skin, they're not just from another pot of coffee. The other her, the voice that whispers its demands, it recognizes him.

A crowded room, an unassuming stranger. The feral need is strong.

Her fingers twitch. She can't admit she feels it taking over.

And then his eyes flash green. The other laughs, her vision blacking out.
