it’s so interesting how gloreth is seen not only as some great noble hero, a warrior who bravely slayed the monster, but also as an adult. a grown-up knight who knew what she was going. when in reality she was just a little kid. a kid who didn’t know what she was doing, not really. a kid with a wooden sword. a kid under her parents’ influence. a kid who only started seeing nimona as a monster because that’s what she was told. and yet she ended up depicted as an adult in the statue, in the storybooks, in the scroll used to justify trying to kill nimona again.

at the beginning of the movie when she’s being introduced via storybook, she says “go back to the shadows from whence you came” in a courageous, commanding voice, even though that’s not quite what happened! in reality her voice was scared, and a little bit uncertain. the narrative was always twisted in her favor because she was seen as the hero.

Look below at how, when Mineta told AFO to spare Tokoyami, AFO specifically went "..."

He remembers Jirou and thinks, The braying howls of the weak...

He was going to take Tokoyami's Quirk. He took Hawks'. But after Mineta pleaded with him, AFO just straight-up left and didn't take anyone else's Quirk.

AFO saw Yoichi in Mineta.

These scenes are near-identical to each other.

Mineta and Yoichi (at that time) are both much smaller than the normal person at their age

They're both hurt, yet dragged themselves up from the ground to throw something at AFO, to get his attention and make their voice

Both are considered weak, even if they have a Quirk (Mineta's Pop-Off and Yoichi's undeveloped Factor)

The fact that Yoichi got AFO's attention here by throwing a can at him, while Mineta got his attention by throwing a Pop-Off ball; and it stuck.

Mineta's call for his attention landed and actually stuck to AFO. This is unlike when Yoichi and his can bounced off, and AFO kicked him, not listening to him; AFO listened to Mineta and left Tokoyami alone, technically doing what Mineta wanted—to not hurt this person.

AFO just went on to hurt more people away from Mineta's [Yoichi's] eyes so the small weakling wouldn't see.

Yoichi and Mineta both cried to AFO to not hurt in his ways, when AFO was intent on stealing people's Quirks

AFO even stole Hawks' Quirk during this time.

He had time to steal Hawks' Quirk, and though he could've tossed him to the side, he let Hawks stand in his way.

He had the energy. Right after this event, he flew off and left the scene. But he didn't go for Tokoyami immediately.

And this let Mineta play his part, and remind AFO of Yoichi.

"A putrid, festering Quirk Factor."

That sounds like Yoichi, AFO.

This chapter (385) where AFO listens to Mineta is literally called [A Youthful Urge].

Mineta told AFO to take his Pop-Off (hurt him) instead. But last time, AFO hurt Yoichi by kicking him; this time, AFO not only listened to Mineta to not hurt Tokoyami, but didn't touch Mineta at all.

Even though this time, Mineta [Yoichi] offered to take that place of suffering.

Yoichi didn't do that back then. AFO just turned on little Yoichi anyway.

Yoichi through his whole existence is literally [the braying howls of the weak]. AFO acknowledges he's weak and idealistic, yet he still loves him.

Side note about this panel, I think it's interesting that in this vision, this was the first time we saw Yoichi's eyes: when he was being defiant, despite being pushed down by someone much stronger than him.

Really characteristic of him, honestly. Yoichi's soft-spoken and frail, but it's always reiterated that Yoichi had a powerful will against his stronger big brother.

Mineta at this moment reminded him too much of Yoichi, because the two scenes are near-identical to each other. Parallels, really.

I’ve been thinking, and I think I’m going to change the way I talk about my headcanons and wof writing to something like a rewrite/reworking. I love wof but it’s become really apparent that the way I engage with it is really more as a world to expand and work in vs a book series I’m analyzing as-is. #shinee #jonghyun #idk i don't usually yk. do things like that for people that have passed but it's been six years and it felt fitting somehow #six years ago i was what. 12 about to turn 13???? had already been to a fair bit of funerals but the only ones that had hit me before #this one were the pianist at our church who passed away suddenly from a heart attack and the regional club leader who had cancer #for like three years and passed just as the doctors thought she would go into remission #and those both happened around October/November so. going into the winter season has always been hard for me and Jjong #was no different. #it's gotten better slowly but it still hurts sometimes. some days i wake up and i can't even look at any of his pictures other days #i get up and put his albums on loop and laugh and reblog so many of his antics #it's funny bc when my aunt passed on New Year's in 2019 it was exactly two weeks after the 1st anniversary date rolled around. always has #been but i never noticed until we lost her and we had to go down for the funeral and i basically disappeared off the internet for a good #two to four months sans queue and checking in on Discord and sh*t and that year he managed to keep me sane. sounds f*cked up #but that year it was just me and Spotify and my playlists and Jjong's voice amid it all. i wish i could meet him and tell him in person #that he practically saved my life even tho the fandom was still raw af from losing him but the prayer will have to be enough #you did well Jjong. you worked so hard. you are our pride. love you to the moon and back 🌒🌙 <333
