EXCUSE ME LETTERKENNY AU?????
HELL YEAH BABEY
so back in novemberish i got a call that i was fired from my job while i was on my way to end things with the guy i’d been seeing, and i ended up with like. nothing but free time for a month and watched all of letterkenny. the fic idea’s been in my head for ages and i dont think i’ll ever actually write it? so here’s a basic bulleted outline also this post 100% helped inspire it
Jack is Wayne, obviously. He’s fresh off a breakup with Camilla, and he’s doing Bad. (Camilla is fine in this au because i have a weird soft spot for Pretty Blonde Girl who literally only appeared once in comic. She just broke up w him because she wasn’t feeling it anymore)
Shitty is Squirrely Dan. He’s a few months into a women’s studies course and he wants to tell everyone he can about it.
Ransom and Holster and Jonesy and Riley. I don’t feel like I need to explain this one at all. I didn’t know which of them was which until like season 3 that’s all im saying
Lardo is Katy. She’s dating Ransom and Holster, who aren’t dating each other (or are they? no one’s quite sure, least of all them. Threesomes have been had but we don’t need to talk about it, rans, it’s fine. Our dicks never touched, okay?)
This is where things diverge from canon. It’s not gonna be a retelling of letterkenny, more just adopting some of their tropes/character archetypes. Also this is gonna get long so i’m putting the rest of it under a cut
Chowder and Farmer are Mr and Mrs McMurray. Less of the general obnoxiousness though and more just every time we see them they can’t keep their hands off each other. Lardo and Farmer have also hooked up at some point you can’t take this away from me. Chowder and Jack have no idea how to interact with each other but are also very close friends. They don’t understand it either
Dex is the town bartender/handyman. He has also hooked up with both Chowder and Farmer because I deserve this.
Nursey is the Bonnie McMurray character. He works part time with Dex at the bar, where they fight/flirt constantly. Every time he’s mentioned there is a sigh and a “Derek Nurse....” Everyone in the town would like very much to kiss him. He’s not related to Chowder and Farmer at all, and has also hooked up with them because i deserve this
Whiskey and Tango are Stewart and Roald. I have nothing to expand on here specifically I just think it’s funny.
I have nothing for Dary or Tanis or Ford but none of their characters really mesh. I don’t know. Someone else can figure this out.
ANYWAYS
Regular town life gets turned upside down when American baker Eric Bittle comes into town
He’s on a tour across Canada and the US finding recipes for his upcoming cookbook, which is all based on small town cuisine across north america, and he ends up in Samwell, Ontario
This is not a town that is known for anything except for their pretty good community hockey team. they got second place at the Province finals. It was a big deal. They definitely don’t have any recipes their town is known for, but Bitty ends up at the local bar, where he meets Nursey and Dex, who introduce him to and Chowder and Farmer, who introduce him to Jack and the crew, and then he just sort of. doesnt leave?
He’s supposed to be working on his book but we all know how Bitty is with procrastination, and also there is this very handsome gruff farmer who’s always holding a german shepherd puppy and bitty may or may not ignore calls from his agent for like a month, until she ends up driving into middle of nowhere Ontario to make sure he hasn’t been murdered or kidnapped
So Bitty leaves, and finishes his book, and there’s a whole chapter on Samwell that gets scrapped because there’s not actually any recipes in it but it’s so charming that somehow it gets turned into its own whole half memoir of his time there half picture of life in small town canada and him and Jack keep in very close touch (you know, for research)
and then eventually he has to go back to town to finish the book and him and jack kiss and he stays forever and they throw super soft birthday parties and jack beats up assholes and homophobes and lardo eventually dumps ransom and holster for shitty and ransom and holster realize they may or may not have been using her as an excuse to kiss each other and everyone is happy

Could you ship tbz members with your mutuals? (Seeing this everywhere so I thought why not pass it to you!)
ahh i’ve been seeing this everywhere as well!! i’ve actually done this awhile back but since i’ve gained a lot of new mutuals since then, i’ll just give it a go once more ^^
i may or may not have put too much thought into this oops 🤭
sangyeon +  @moondustaeil @aveluant1a
talking to amber feels like i’m talking to a trusted older sister ngl. she's one of the people i’d turn to for an honest opinion or some much needed advice on stuff and i value her insights very much. she's also very mature in their thinking which is what i think sangyeon would appreciate a lot as the leader of a group of 11 (10) other boys who are always constantly on crack.
as for yu, she gives me very gentle and calm vibes seriously. she’s strikes me off as a hard worker from our conversations and she is very dedicated to her writing which i believe sangyeon would love in a person. i can already imagine him just staring at her work, with a look of affection and admiration in his eyes 😆
jacob + @ihearttbz
riane is an absolute angel to talk to and i love our conversations tgt because it’s always so easy to talk to her and i feel like i can tell her a lot of things i normally wouldn’t tell anyone else. she’d pair very well with jacob and just be that couple that everyone loves and adores, the really sweet couple that people just love to hang around with 💞
younghoon + @chaoticdeobi
um was it really going to be anyone else other than bea? XD younghoon as we know is a pretty shy person and bea to me, seems like the opposite of that. in their case, i think the phrase ‘opposite attracts’ is applicable! bea’s enthusiasm and liveliness is something younghoon would definitely find to be very charming, prompting him to come out of his shell very quickly when he’s around her. i believe whatever he lacks, she makes up for it and vice versa
hyunjae + @bobagyu @kpophours
rose is just so random and funny sometimes which is honestly just like hyunjae to a tee, they’re just so like each other in a way! i get the feeling that rose may be a little unsure of herself sometimes ( which she shouldn’t ) and i think hyunjae would be a great fit because he would definitely be able to help her become more confident while she can probably teach him to be a little less tough and be more vulnerable to his own feelings.
anna is an extremely bright and outgoing person from what i can tell from our conversations. i think that would complement well with hyunjae’s loud and larger than life personality and they would a 100% be that couple that everyone just asks to tone it down but secretly love having them around because they’re just so intriguing and fun to have around 💫
juyeon + @jyeonvoir
elsie has these very calm vibes and i’ve mentioned this before but she gives mad older sister vibes as well. she’s gentle and soft, very much like juyeon and ngl i may be just a little intimidated by her at first but after getting to know her, she’s actually super friendly and nice! she and juyeon would make a lovely couple and i can totally imagining them just chilling on a rainy night, watching Netflix while he wraps his arms around her in a warm embrace.
kevin + @2hyunjae @mae-gi-writes
luna imo is pretty quiet for the most part but once you talk to her, she’s actually pretty fun to talk to! she’s also artistically inclined ( also have you seen her calligraphy skills? they’re insanely good omf ) which i think kevin would appreciate a lot as an artist himself! i feel like he can bring her out of her shell and when he does, he’d just be enchanted by her lovely personality and did i just write a fluffy fic prompt?? o.o
mae is JUST. SO. CUTE. my biggest kevin stan out there, you would be a great match for kevin i just know it. your enthusiasm and your meme vibes would complement kevin perfectly! she’s incredibly supportive and lively which is definitely something i think kevin would look out for in a partner. i can 100% see him with someone who’s just like mae in the future 💓
chanhee + @tidalstorm
something about ros to me screams vogue and classiness and when i think of her, i feel like she’s super bougie? maybe im wrong but that’s how i feel! i get the same vibe around chanhee as well and her really cute personality i feel will mesh well with chanhee’s seemingly harder personality? they’re just very alike to me in terms of vibes!
changmin + @fluffytbz @sankyeom
having talked to rosie, i can tell you that she’s one of the easiest people i’ve talked to on tumblr so far. she’s also such a sweet person and her vibes are really similar to changmin’s come to think of it? lovable but with a tiny hint of shyness? that’s changmin and rosie! i know we always see changmin smiling since that boy basically exudes happiness but i feel like there’s got to be a special kind of smile, the soft kind that speaks volumes of his feelings that he reserves for those he loves and i feel like that person could be rosie. does that make sense?
talking about belle is like talking about a role model to me >< i still fangirl sometimes but that’s beside the point. belle has such warm vibes that changmin would have loved! i feel like he’s not someone who likes to make his feelings know and he’d rather just be happy in front of the camera all the time but i think with belle, he would definitely be able to let his guard down around her. there’s just something about her that wants to make ppl trust her instantly 😋
haknyeon + @atbzkingdom
dee is an absolute sweetheart which is just what hak needs. she can be level headed and mature when the situation calls for it but she can also have fun and be wild which i think hak would appreciate a lot in a partner! he’s been through a lot so i feel he may need someone who he can feel comfortable around to tell his secrets to and since dee is trustworthy like that, he’d feel at ease around her 😌
hyunjoon + @tbzwurld
ok i’ll be honest. i was kind of intimidated by bee when i first started talking to her. there’s something about her that just makes her whole vibe so powerful and just radiate such dominant energy ( not in that way ) but yes, she just seems so cool to me and the vibes she gives off to me is exactly the vibes hyunjoon gives me as well. once you get to know her though, she’s actually so sweet?? and kind?? and amazing?? idk why but to me, she’s what i think would be hyunjoon’s ideal type ✨
sunwoo + @minfuwa @jopping-to-my-kpop @mjlkau
although i haven’t rly talked much to iris ( but i really want to >< iris can we be friends pls ) iris has this sort of charm that i can’t quite put my finger on. it’s a certain type of charm that i associate with sunwoo? like there’s a certain appeal which they both have in common! from our very little interaction ( hopefully we can change that ), i get that she has a vibrant personality that would make everyone just love to flock to her and befriend her. ngl when i think of sunwoo, i think of her sometimes! maybe this is a signal from the universe idk 👀
yo ok emma is just like super cool ok? idc what tf you have to say, she’s cooler than you and me and everyone else combined. her swag is just out of this world and i think her effortlessly cool persona is something that sunwoo would just be completely enthralled by. she's also a very reliable friend who i am so glad to have gotten to know bc hell, even i’m attracted to her personality so how can sunwoo not be? actually, sunwoo would love her personality! they both exude such badass but soft vibes it’s almost unreal 💙
anie has a very surprising personality imo! my first impression of her was really cute and sweet so imagine my surprise when she reveals that darker side of her >< i really like the duality though ngl and i think sunwoo would too! he’d just be so fascinated by her and just want to get to know her more and as he learns more about her, he’s just going to end up falling deep in love without realising until one day he’s like “fuck, i’m an idiot in love without even noticing it.”
eric + @heartyyjeno @lovely-kpop-writer
alesha is just a BIG ball of floof and i love her omg she's such a supportive and caring friend, it’s unreal. her enthusiasm to me, is on par with eric and if he’s the energy boy, she’s the energy girl for sure. they’d be that couple that just goes around hyping everyone up and everyone would just LOVE them! i know i would and if anyone disagrees, i’ll fite you >:(
jasmine my love!!! this girl here is just so incredibly lovely just like her url suggests and honestly, she’s one of the ppl who are most significant in my tumblr journey because her love for people is just so heartwarming? she’s always friendly and kind which is what eric would love in his future partner.  jasmine is just so PRECIOUS istg ❣️

Kermit and Friends: Happy Father’s Day
Tumblr media
What a special episode this turned out to be!
It was Father’s Day on this edition of Kermit and Friends, and Elisa managed to get her dad Craig to show up for the occasion!
This was actually Craig’s first time ever on the show, including the original run of Kermit and Friends, which had over 300 episodes. He was such a great sport about everything and you could see where Elisa got both her beautiful smile and festive nature from.
Craig is pretty much a lifetime musician/performer. Elisa is named after the Beethoven song Für Elise and Craig has been in many bands, from Beatles cover bands to playing back-up for Elisa and Benjy’s concerts in New York City.
That’s pretty much the extent I know about Mr. Craig. He really seems like an awesome guy though. He wonderfully performed Big Boss Man by Jimmy Reed and Memphis by Chuck Berry. You could sincerely see his talent shine through with these performances, even with the limitations of an Ipad mic. Very impressive, and good taste in music too!
But of course, what everyone really wanted to see was Craig interact with Kermit and Friends guests, and most of all... with Andy Dick.
Before Craig had the opportunity to meet Andy though, he first got to meet Eric Riggs!
Somehow, Craig heard about Eric’s threat to chop Elisa’s head off last week, so he had some preconceived notions about the guy, to say the least. Eric started off the conversation with Craig with both good news and bad news. The good news was that Eric had a meeting with his Rabbi recently, and the bad news is that as long as Andy Dick is involved with Kermit and Friends, the “Jews” will never fund the show. Uh oh!
Eric would pop on and off throughout the rest of the episode with both calls and on-cam appearances from his car (supposedly in Los Angeles). Eric would mostly just rant about Andy and talk about things no one had a clue what he was referring to. From Andy sacrificing kids to Jews being the only good people in the World... Eric was basically Eric I guess. If you’re an Eric fan, he did not let you down yesterday.
But if you thought there was any chance of Eric saving face after Craig heard the rumors of his threats towards Elisa, it was not meant to be. Eric made the absolutely worst first impression anyone could ever make with a young lady’s father. You seriously couldn’t write this stuff.... ONLY on Kermit and Friends could this happen!
That said, Andy Dick did not present himself much better to Craig than Eric did.
First, I have to give props to Andy for even showing up. Andy told Elisa 20 minutes before the show that he was going to take a nap, and over an hour into the show, after countless calls and texts from multiple people to try to wake Andy up, nothing was working. I could see the disappointment in Elisa’s face and it broke my heart. Thankfully though just as Elisa was ready to end the show, Andy popped on and Elisa’s beautiful face lit up.
Like I said, Andy was taking a nap so he was understandably a bit weary. Unfortunately, Andy was also a bit grouchy! He cared very little at first that Craig was Elisa’s father. He started the conversation off with a “This is what you raised?” after Elisa asked Andy to adjust his camera. Yikes!
In typical Andy fashion he would almost immediately make up for it by crying over how special Elisa is. “I like when you cry talking about me Andy, can you do that again?” Elisa would politely ask, and then the criticism started all over again, “This is where she’s a little off kilter.”
This is pure comedic gold that can’t be scripted and only Kermit and Friends fans are able to enjoy it. This show deserves and needs more eyes on it. The World is missing out on so much laughter... makes me bummed but also even more grateful that I’m not missing it!
As mentioned, Craig was a great sport about everything. He never took offense to Eric or Andy; he even would get some funny jokes in towards them (”Eric reminds me of Anthony Perkins from Psycho”). Most importantly, you could tell Craig was having a fun time. He smiled all throughout his appearances and I hope in my heart that he felt proud of Elisa for putting on such an entertaining show that’s enjoyed by so many people.
Craig wasn’t the only star on yesterday’s spectacular show though. Kermit made a new friend named Katha Blackwell, author of the book Not Another Victim: A Woman's Guide to Avoiding a Bad Relationship.
Katha primarily focuses on abusive relationships and helping women get through any trauma they’ve endured from any volatile relationships they were a part of. Katha was raised in a household where she saw her mom abused, and it inspired her to try to help other women going through a similar situation. Thankfully Katha’s mother survived and got out, and Katha has been able to use the experience to help others. Beautiful story.
T-Bob not surprisingly was very smitten with Katha. What was surprising though was how charming and poignant T-Bob was with her, complimenting Katha and sharing a story of himself trying to stop an abusive relationship he saw taking place. I would love to see T-Bob show up on Kermit and Friends sober more often, especially since it also helps with his internet connection!
Sigmond and Wappy returned to perform some songs. Wappy did a beautiful rendition of Old Man by Neil Young where Sigmond would only chime in during the chorus. Wappy would later sing Get Out by Sublime and poor Sigmond wasn’t able to contribute anything in that performance! People were very curious what Sigmond actually does in the band. Well, I’ve linked their Soundcloud before where you can actually hear Sigmond read off material he wrote.... I’ll link it again here. Hopefully next week they will perform one of these songs where Sigmond is actually able to participate!
A funny note about Sigmond too yesterday was that he originally wore a plaid shirt that matched the blanket Wappy had hanging up on his wall, which made Sigmond blend in with it. Elisa asked him to change shirts and Sigmond would go on to do so TWICE. It might not sound funny written but visually if you go check it out, it’s hilarious!
Elisa shared a story about how she met the rapper G-Eazy the other night. I’m not going to lie... if it wasn’t for Elisa’s tweets, I most likely would have never heard of this guy, but I know Elisa has a big crush on him and I was happy to hear G-Eazy treated her nicely when they met. Anyone who treats Elisa with kindness is cool in my book! Consider me a fan now, G-Eazy.
Gonzo made a lot of good calls yesterday. After Craig told some wholesome dad jokes, Gonzo chimed in with his own, “Who’s most likely to have a dead woman buried in his backyard? Sigmond.” Not a nice joke! Gonzo would later change the answer to Eric. Still not nice!
Gonzo’s hero Johnny B would perform Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chaplin twice on the show. The first time was when Andy came on, so the show continued rather than ended as scheduled, and the second time was interrupted by Eric’s incessant rambling, which did not make Johnny B happy!
What a Father’s Day. It was the perfect show, one that will never be forgotten. The first 75 minutes were very sweet and wholesome, and the next 75 minutes were just out of this World comedy where everyone was having the time of their lives. Like I said in last week’s review, when Elisa has fun... we all have fun, and she had a blast yesterday once Andy appeared. It was an all around glorious time, and I can’t wait for next week’s birthday show. Until then... I hope everyone reading this and their dads all had a wonderful Father’s Day. God bless you all. ❤️

another kind of green (4/?)
Tumblr media
Emma Swan spends her days in pretty white dresses and heavy layers of makeup. Day after day and dress after dress, she poses for pictures and acts like she’s in love and having the happiest day of her life with the man standing next to her.
It’s not. This is all a gig, and at the end of the day, she’s no longer the girl in the pretty dress who’s faking getting married for a magazine cover or a wedding convention. Instead, she’s the girl who probably never wants to get married.
Little does she know, she already is.
| Based on two-trope game forgotten first meeting + accidentally married |
a/n: thanks for reading, lovely people, and thanks to @resident-of-storybrooke for looking over these words even though I keep changing them on her😊

“Hello, love.” Killian waves to Marlene before placing a folder of some of his paperwork on her desk. “Can you do me a favor and send these up to Captain Roberts? It’s the rest of the paperwork he needed.”
“Of course. Do you need anything else?”
Killian hums and winks. “Just for you to have a good day, Marlene.”
“It’s always brightened when you come by.”
Killian huffs before forcing a brighter smile onto his face. He’s been posing for pictures for the past two hours, and he’s not sure how much more smiling he can take. This is why he has to get out of this job and get everything squared away at the station so he can do more with his life.
So he can move on.
Liam was a damn fine officer, and if he were still here, he’d be proud of Killian doing this. It’s so much more than him posing for pictures. When he was younger and had no plan in life, he’d drink too much and sleep with far too many women. That calmed down with Milah, but Liam never really saw Killian turn his life around before Liam died. He’d been there for the early years with Milah, but it hadn’t been enough.
(And on occasion, like with Emma, Killian falls back into old habits.)
Killian has always resented that Liam never saw him try to be better, has always let that hatred fester inside of him, but he’s working on it. That’s the mantra he keeps having to repeat, especially this morning at his shoot as he was poked and prodded and treated like a fucking mannequin.
“Thank you,” Killian tells Marlene. “I’ll see you soon. Thanks again.”
She opens her mouth to say something, and he braces himself for it before she simply smiles and nods, allowing him to be on his way. Killian turns on his heels and exits the police station, putting his sunglasses over his eyes and walking up the stairs only to come face to face with Detective Humbert.
Fuck.
He doesn’t know what kind of relationship Emma had with the man, but he’s got a pretty good idea. Doesn’t the guy ever stay at his desk or out in the field? That would be helpful.
“Detective Humbert,” Killian says, keeping his smile from earlier.
Graham blinks, and for a moment Killian thinks he’ll get away with this interaction without Graham recognizing him, but things don’t really seem to be going his way today.
“Jones, right?”
“Aye.” Killian reaches his hand forward to shake Graham’s hand, and Graham moves down a step until they’re on equal footing to shake hands. “Killian Jones.”
“Nice to see you, Jones. Is Emma with you today?”
Killian releases Graham’s hand to scratch behind his ear. “No. She’s working.”
He’s got no bloody clue if she’s working, but he doesn’t know what else to say. If Graham was part of Killian’s training team, he already knows he would have no chance in hell in getting his certification.
“She still modeling?”
“She is.”
They stay standing there in silence, the seconds passing by as cars speed down the road and the construction across the street carries on, the crane lifting a large beam in the air.
Graham nods, pressing a tight smile onto his face. “Tell her I said hello then,” he says before stepping down another step and walking toward the entrance.
“Humbert,” Killian calls out because he’s a fucking idiot who for some reason feels obligated to do the right thing here since he could have royally screwed up Emma’s life a few weeks ago when they were here. Graham stops walking and turns around. “Look, mate, I don’t know how to say this without making myself look like an ass, but Emma and I aren’t married.”
“Excuse me?”
“I mean, we are married. Legally, at least. We were both working out at a wedding convention in Vegas, got a little tipsy, and got married. We’re getting it annulled though. I was just being an ass and bothering her when I told Marlene she was my wife. I had no idea someone she knew was going to walk through the doors.”
Graham crosses his arms over his chest and sighs, staring Killian down despite the fact that Killian is on higher ground. “Isn’t there some kind of rule in Vegas that they can’t give you a license if you’re drunk?”
“Aye. Emma and I are apparently fantastic at acting sober.”
“That’s, well, that’s fucking crazy, but it does make more sense to me. Emma was never really the marrying type.”
“Pardon?” Killian says as the tiniest bit of anger boils in his stomach.
“I don’t mean it in an offensive way,” Graham explains. “There’s nothing wrong with her feeling that way. I know how she is. We were together for awhile, but I wasn’t the right man for her. Maybe you will be if you can make it past the whole getting married thing.”
Killian wants to explain that they’re not together, that they’ve never been together for anything other than a night of sex, but there have been other officers walking by he and Graham this entire time. He really doesn’t need to get into any of this. Hell, Emma will kill him if he says anything else to her ex. It’s just not his business.
“Thanks. See you around, Humbert.”
“See you around, Jones. Remember to tell Emma I said hello when you see her.”
“Of course.” Finally, Graham leaves and goes inside the station, and Killian is free to get out of downtown and go home.
He needs at least a little break before tonight.
-/-
“Oi, why are we going out to watch fireworks?”
“Because Ariel wants us to.” “And we do everything Ariel wants?”
“It’s a nice show,” Killian yells into the other room, pulling off the pair of sweats he changed into when he got home and tugging on a pair of jeans, the holes at the knees getting caught before he can pull them to his waist and button them. “And she invited us to meet them down by the harbor for dinner and the Labor Day fireworks. Ariel loves this kind of stuff, and believe it or not, on occasion it is alright to be nice to someone you care about.”
“I have a late shift at the bar tonight, mate. I don’t think I can watch the whole show, and it’s in the opposite part of the city and all.”
Killian sighs and grabs a t-shirt to put on before walking out of his bedroom and down the hallway so he can actually see Will when he’s talking to him instead of having to yell. He’s sure their neighbors love it when they do that. But he’s still tired, is still partially ready for this day to be over with, and he’s agitated enough to not want to have to put up with Will’s shit.
“Look, if you don’t want to come, you don’t have to. Despite your general attitude, you’re an adult. You can make your own decisions.”
Will puts down the dish he’s washing, porcelain of the plate hitting against the metal of the sink. “Don’t be an ass about it. Is this your way of guilt tripping me?”
“Oh, definitely not.”
“Fuck it, Jones,” Will groans, “you are guilt tripping me.”
Killian smiles, but he says nothing as Will keeps blinking at him.
Perfect.
Maybe he is being a bit of an ass about it.
“I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
“I do.”
“You don’t, you git. Now go get dressed. A and Eric are probably saving us seats at the Wharf.”
“I can stay for thirty minutes, and then I have to go to work. Not all of us can use our pretty faces to make our money.”
“Stop being jealous and put on a shirt without stains, Scarlet.”
-/-
Ariel and Eric are waiting for them at the Wharf, just like Killian knew they would be, and Ariel absolutely gushes over Will showing up. She’s got a soft spot for him, God knows why, but Killian’s glad he pulled Will out of the apartment for long enough that he would come down here even if it’s just for a beer before he goes to serve actual beers to people who are reveling in having a three-day weekend.
If Killian had a regular job, which he’d one day like to have now that he’s dropped off the rest of his paperwork for the PAT. He had it scheduled, but then it got rescheduled after the whole background check debacle and so he can take it with a bigger recruiting class that will all be in the Academy together. It’s why he’s got his phone pretty consistently in his hand waiting for an email or a text or something.
From Captain Roberts…or Emma.
He’s been thinking about her all day, pretty much ever since he ran into Graham. It’s been twenty or so days since he last saw her, since he last heard from her in a coffee shop as they hashed out the details of their annulment. She’d been more than ready to get it over with, had practically only talked about it, and he gets that. He does. Why would she want to stay married to him, especially when he gets the sense that Emma is jumpy? At first it was the nervousness outside the precinct, then how she was inside after they ran into Graham. Now he knows that she’s not one for marriage, apparently, and he went and married her the night they met.
And now that they’re trying to fix that he keeps pressing her into having an actual conversation about anything else.
What the hell is wrong with him?
Why is he trying to get to know a woman who doesn’t want to get to know him?
Oh, because she’s charming and funny and sexy as hell.
But mostly, he thinks, she’d been freaked out over the process of having to get the annulment. She was the one who brought up the lawyer but kept insisting that maybe they didn’t have to use one even if the both of them are pretty sure that they’re in so far over their heads that they need all of the help they can get.
He’s thirty years old, but sometimes Killian can’t help but feel like a kid who’s waiting for his brother to find a solution to all of his problems.
That’s not going to be something that happens ever again, and even though it’s been years, Killian still forgets that Liam isn’t here.
Is never going to be here.
Right now, all he really wants is for Emma to text him or call him or send him a damn email with the attorney’s name she decided on so that they can file the annulment papers and go ahead and get it in the system and have it be over with. Neither of them are contesting it, so it shouldn’t take too long.
Move on. He desperately wants to move on with his life.
“Earth to Killian Jones. Are you there? Is there anything going on inside of that head of yours? No? I knew pretty people couldn’t also be smart.”
“So what does that say about you, A?”
Ariel scoffs and rolls her eyes while Killian shakes himself out of his thoughts. “I think you meant to insult me, but really, all you did was compliment me.”
“He’s not very good at the insults,” Will sighs. “But he’s an expert at the compliments. He could get any woman out here to go on a date with him in five minutes.” “That sounds like a challenge.” It’s Killian’s turn to roll his eyes at Eric before reaching down and taking a sip of his beer while his eyes scan over the crowd that’s flooding the boardwalk and moving over to the open green space where several booths and food trucks are spread out with a few hundred people lounging around on their backs or sitting on chairs they brought with them to watch the fireworks and celebrate Labor Day weekend. “What do you say, Jones? You want to try that?”
Ariel slaps her husband. “We are not having Killian make a bet on whether or not he can get a woman to go out with him. That’s how every single nineties’ romantic comedy got their drama.”
“Wait. You’re opposed to this because it goes awry in a few movies?”
“And the fact that it’s kind of misogynistic. You can’t just make a joke out of someone’s feelings.”
“So if I were to tell you that I asked you out on a date because – ” Ariel moves to slap Eric again, but he catches her hand before she can touch his shoulder and then leans forward to quickly brush his lips against her cheek. “I’m kidding, sweetheart. I asked you on a date because you were the most beautiful woman in my American literature class.”
“You two are bloody saccharine,” Will mumbles.
“Hey, look at you with your big word there, Scarlet.”
“That’s it,” Will groans, standing from his chair at the table, “I’m going to work. I’ve talked, had a beer and some potato logs, and I want to go stand in the air conditioning of the bar.”
“See you at home, mate?” Killian questions.
“Yeah, whatever. Bring me home a bag of those donuts from the booth over there.”
Killian mock salutes as Will walks away, his head slowly shaking from side to side. Killian’s agitated mood seems to have passed over to Will for the most part, and he’s not even going to be sorry about it today. He needs a night where things go right.
“He loves us,” Ariel sighs. “You can tell in the look in his eyes. That’s all love there.”
“Yeah,” Killian huffs, drinking his beer while his eyes land on a woman with long, lean legs and an ass that fits perfectly inside of her jean shorts which don’t seem to be covering much of her thighs. She’s got blonde hair pulled back into a braid and…holy shit. The universe can’t seem to give him a break. Or, well, maybe it can. “Hey, Fisher?”
“Yeah?” they both say.
“Hundred bucks says I can get a woman to come over here to our table and spend the night with me.”
“We are not betting on you having sex with someone.”
Killian rolls his eyes. “No, not that kind of spending the night. I want her to spend the evening with me, and if she so chooses to come back to my place, that’s none of your business.”
“I thought we said we weren’t doing that.”
Killian leans forward and winks. “I do so love a challenge.”
And then he’s getting up and walking away from the table to the sound of Ariel’s protests of him being an asshole. And yeah, he knows that he can be, but he’s not about to be an asshole right now. He wouldn’t even think about doing this, at least not anymore, if he didn’t know who this woman was.
“Swan,” he calls out, and he sees the muscles in her shoulders tense before she turns around from the group of people she was talking to. “Fancy seeing you here.”
He can feel the eyes of everyone on them, but he blocks them out and only focuses on Emma. She’s only got on a thin top that shows off her shoulders and the curves of her breasts while also revealing her toned midriff, and he has to fight back memories of their night together if he doesn’t want his jeans to get too tight.
Of all the women in the world to be here.
“Well, you know, Boston is a big city, but it’s apparently much smaller than I thought.”
“Which is a good thing, I assume.”
“Depends on the situation.”
Killian chuckles and takes another step closer to her before glancing up at her group of friends. “Can we talk for a minute?”
“You know, I’m with my friends and – ”
“Of course she can talk to you,” one of her friends says, a woman with long brown hair full of red streaks and a wolfish smile. “She can make all the time in the world for you, handsome.”
“Ruby,” Emma hisses, “shut up.”
“A hot as hell man just came up to you because he knows you and is asking to speak. You need to go, Emma. You know what they say about droughts and everything getting dried up down – ”
“Okay,” Emma sing-songs, thrusting her hand forward to push at Killian’s chest until he’s backing away, “I will go talk to him if you shut up because none of that is true.”
“I mean, it could be.”
“Rubes.”
“Fine, fine.”
Killian’s trying to stifle his laugh. He really is, but he can’t help himself when a small chuckle escapes and he gets an absolute death stare from Emma. Ah, he’s kind of missed that. She’s a feisty lass.
“What do you need, Jones?” Emma huffs out when they get far enough away from her friends that they can’t hear the conversation.
“I was wondering why I haven’t heard from you in twenty days.”
He should not have said the exact amount of days. He shouldn’t have. That’s too much.
“The phone works both ways.”
“Ah, yes, but I have a feeling you wouldn’t have answered my calls or texts if I had tried.”
She crosses her arms, and it takes everything in him not to look at how the movement pushes her breasts up. He’s not going to be that guy. “Look, I haven’t found a lawyer yet, okay? I’ve had shoots pretty much every day for the past three weeks, and it hasn’t been at the top of my list of priorities.”
“Oh really? Ending your marriage hasn’t been at the top of your list? You were the one who said you wanted to pick the attorney because you didn’t want to work with just anyone. It’s some paperwork, Swan. I’ve done some more research and am pretty sure we can do it ourselves. We’re not settling in for a custody battle that’s going to last two years.”
Her eyes narrow. “I’ll get around to it. It’s not like this is keeping you from living your life anymore. I talked to your Captain. Your background check has been cleared, and you can take all of your little tests now. You don’t need me anymore for anything besides filing the papers.”
“Love – ”
“What did I say about calling me that?”
“It’s a force of habit. It’s not something special, so don’t let it get you too high on your horse.”
“You absolute ass- ”
“Emma Swan?” Ariel gasps, and both he and Emma turn to the side to see Ariel walking up to them, absolutely beaming. “Emma Swan, is that you?”
She looks back at him quickly, green eyes as wide as he’s ever seen them, and suddenly the absolutely threatening look she was giving him is turned into a vibrant smile that makes small lines around her eyes appear.
Her eyes have to be another kind of green because he’s never seen any quite so captivating.
“Ariel, hi. What are you doing here?”
How the hell do the two of them know each other? Is Boston actually the smallest city in the world?
“I’m here with my husband and, well, Killian actually. I don’t mean to interrupt you, especially since I know Killian came over here to ask you out, but then I noticed it was you he was talking to and had to come and say hello.”
What the hell is going on?
“Oh,” Emma laughs, “is that what he was doing? Asking me out? I had no idea. That wasn’t very smooth, Jones. I thought you knew how to sweet-talk a woman.”
“Oi, I was not asking you out. I mean, that’s what I told Ariel and Eric but – ”
“Why would you tell them that?”
“There was a bet and – ”
“A bet?”
“Aye, but – ”
“A fucking bet, Jones? What is this? A rom com from the nineties? You can’t ask me out over a bet? And you of all people should know that I’m not exactly interested in dating you. I mean – ”
“Love, if you could let me finish a sentence, I think you’d see that this all makes a little more sense than you’re thinking it does.”
“Try me.”
“Okay, so I – ”
“Wait,” Ariel interrupts as Killian reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose, “do you two know each other? How do you know each other?”
“Funny, A, I could ask you the same thing.” “Ariel knows my agent, Mary Margaret” Emma explains. “Wait. Is Ariel your agent?”
“Aye, but I don’t know a Mary Margaret.”
“Oh, sure you do,” Ariel says, waving him away. “I’ve talked about her plenty. She and her husband go out with Eric and me quite often. So how do you know each other again?”
“Um,” Killian begins, scratching behind his ear.
“We did the convention shoot in Vegas at the end of July,” Emma quickly explains, shooting him a look. “He was my fake husband for the day.” “And your real husband right now,” he mumbles under his breath until Emma slaps him.
“What was that?” Ariel asks.
“Nothing, darling. So, what a small world that you all know each other. What are the odds?”
“Well, catalog model agents in Boston run a very small circle. It’s not like we’re in New York or something like that. Also, you lose your bet because you knew Emma. That doesn’t count.”
“I was never going to take Eric’s money, A.”
“I was never going to go out with him anyways. He’s not exactly my type.”
Bloody liar.
Ariel laughs at Emma before placing her hand on Emma’s shoulder. “Why don’t you and your friends join us? We’re about to eat some food and then watch the fireworks. I’m sure we can get an extra seat or two for the table.”
“Oh, no,” Emma protests. “I wouldn’t want to intrude.”
“It’s not intruding at all.”
“Did someone say food?” Ruby asks, skipping up to her and dragging the woman behind her with her. “I’m up for some food.”
Emma turns around to look at her friend, and if he could see her face, he’s sure it would scream murder right now. Holding in his chuckle is more difficult than it should be, but this is all too perfect. He’s not about to pass up on an opportunity to have a night messing with Emma.
“Come on, Swan,” Killian urges, kicking his foot at her, “get something to eat with us. I’ll buy you a beer, though I know you’re partial to champagne and tequila.”
The look she gives him definitely screams murder.
“They sell margaritas at one of these booths. Buy me one, and we’ll eat with you guys. Don’t think I’m taking my eyes off you for a second.”
“I would despair if you did.”
He learns that Ruby is also a model, but that she does more work than Emma because she wants to move onto bigger gigs, and that her girlfriend Mulan is a physical trainer who apparently regularly kicks Emma’s ass enough that Emma will go to another gym some days. This causes Mulan to go into some kind of rant about Emma needing to show up at a class and that the other gym she goes to is a waste of money, but Emma waves her away, murmuring something about finding a cheeseburger, some onion rings, and whatever the largest margarita sold is. That’s how they end up leaving Mulan and Ruby with Eric and Ariel as he and Emma go in search of her food and her drink.
“So onion rings? Not fries?”
“I mean, I like fries,” Emma explains as she walks slightly ahead of him before slowing down to fall in step with him, “and I’ll eat them. But onion rings are undeniably better.”
“Undeniably, huh?”
“Yes.”
“Can you defend that?”
“I like them more, so they’re better.”
Killian chuckles. He doesn’t have a particular fondness for either, but he’s not about to argue. “Okay, lass. Whatever you say. So, have you told any of your friends that you have been happily joined in matrimony?”
She stumbles in her walk. “I told my agent and her husband, who’s a cop, but I didn’t tell anyone else. I had a few questions for David about how to become a cop and all that you were going through. I don’t know…it seemed right to tell them because I knew they could help. You?”
“I haven’t told any of my friends.”
“Yeah?”
“Mhm. I think there’s a burger truck in the second row to your left, Swan. And yeah, I don’t know, didn’t feel like it was something anyone needed to know.”
Emma doesn’t say anything, but she does turn to move toward the food truck he pointed out.
“I can help you find an attorney, you know? I’m sure it’s not a big deal.”
“I can handle it.”
“Swan.”
“I said I can handle it.”
“It’s been nearly a month. The longer we wait, the longer it’s going to take to get it done.”
She groans and turns around, slapping her hands against her thighs. “Look, I have a thing about lawyers and courthouses and the whole damn legal system, but I really have been busy, okay? I’ll get to it this week and make a decision on how I want to move forward.”
“Does your thing have anything to do with Detective Humbert?”
Oh boy he really is an asshole.
“You know, like I already said, that’s not really any of your business, but no, it doesn’t.” She turns and her braid flips over her shoulder. It’s a dismissal if he’s ever seen one, and any opportunity to tell her he talked to Graham is gone. It wasn’t a big deal, and he’s sure she doesn’t want to hear about her ex anyways. “I’m hungry. Let’s go get dinner. I will find someone to help me do it.”
“Okay, Swan. I trust you to do that.”
She stops again, making him nearly run into her in the crowded area, but then she’s quickly moving again and working her way to get her food. Emma Swan makes absolutely no sense to him. None.
But he cannot deny that he is incredibly intrigued by this woman.
He can’t deny that it’s the first time in a long time that something like that has happened, either.
“Jones,” she yells out, “you’re getting me the extra-large margarita.”
“It would be my pleasure, love.”
She only rolls her eyes at his endearment this time, and Killian marks that one down as a success.
Or, well, progress.
Like he said, he does love a challenge.

Oddjob!Mark
Guide for the wildlife tours
He’s always been fascinated with animals, ever since he was a kid
His parents thought they nailed it with his birthday present on his 10th birthday, a dog that was full of energy, but Mark thought it was just...okay
Not that he didn’t love his dog
Of course he loved it with all his heart
But it wasn't...a tiger, a lion, a bear (oh my!)
Mark went through all the phases a kid goes through - pirate, cowboy, princess, athlete - but nothing really stuck
That is, until, he went into the third grade and his teacher had a collection of books on safari animals
There was just something about them that enamoured Mark to the extent that everything in his life was revolved around the jungles and deserts that inhabited creatures of every kind
From that day forward, Mark knew he wanted to grow up and work with animals
For a while, Mark thought he wanted to be a veterinarian
Got as far as college before he realized that he really couldn’t handle being around sad and sick animals
(and really couldn’t stomach the thought of having to tell someone their pet has passed away)
So he dropped out of that, much to his parents dismay, and transferred to a safer business major
Turns out, he has all the charm for presentations, but absolutely no idea when it came to delivering numbers
Math in high school was fun for him, but how the heck was he supposed to prove this product was worth it based on calculations alone?
His advisor was kind enough and sat down with him for over an hour trying to figure out a good major for him, one that was connected to animals
Unfortunately, zoology was ruled out pretty quick as Mark detested the idea of having to stay in school long enough for a PhD
By some stroke of luck, Mark was finally able to pick communications as a degree
He loved his classes, his natural charisma really coming in handy
He also, accidently, completed both a history and environmental studies minor by simply taking all the classes on animals that he could find
It was a strange collection of skills he had developed through his years in college, but an even stranger series of events that would somehow utilize everything he learned
On a random post-college road trip with some of his friends, they decided to visit this seemingly kiddy zoo just for fun they happened upon
They had plenty of time on their hands - no jobs, significant others, or classes were waiting for them, why not spend the whole day at the zoo?
Mark had to admit that the city they were in was pretty cute, full of people of all ages, and even a small private college to fill the space
The zoo was pretty impressive for the location, and full to the brim with families and friends just enjoying their summer vacation
Mark couldn’t help but note the small note on the corner of every map, hidden in the plea for any donation money, that this zoo also acted as a sanctuary and rehabilitation center
The boys spent their day enjoying everything the zoo had to offer, including the nasty sugared sweets shaped like the different animals throughout the park
The longest line by far was for a tropical boat ride, signs posted all around the entrance promising up close and personal interactions with animals, all from the safety of a small motorized boat. There was even a tour guide aboard to detail the experience!
Did he feel bad making his friends wait in a too long line on a hot day? Yes. Did he feel silly by how giddy he got? Possibly. Did he regret it? Absolutely not.
Within the first five minutes of the ride, Mark just felt something click
That tour guide looked like he was having the time of his life, despite the fact that this was probably the hundredth time he’s don't this exact speech
He even got just as excited as everyone else when the tiger, visible through the glass pane to their right, leap from his tree on to a rock to lounge
For the first time ever, Mark felt like he knew what he wanted to do
He couldn’t stop himself, despite protests from his friends, as he walked towards the tour guide after the tour was over
“So...uh...I really liked the show today. How do I get a job like that?”
The tour guide, whose nametag read Eric, was more than happy to tell him all about his job, the qualifications, and the amazing things he gets to do with animals during his shifts
He even got a monkey to land on his shoulder once!
Mark was completely starstruck
Within the hour, he was handing in his half-hazardly made resume (completely hand written on the back of a disposable map he found because who knew he was going to find his dream job on his stupid road trip?)
Mark has an inkling that Eric put in a good word for him, because the next day, when he was already hours away from the zoo, he got a call for an in-person interview
After ditching his friends, taking a bus back, and somehow scrounging up a presentable outfit for his interview, Mark was agreeing to his new job
And who else happened to be there, applying for an internship in the marketing department - you!
You sat beside Mark, both your legs jittering up and down as you waited in the silent back office, just waiting for your interview
Mark sat beside you (you only knew his name because he was kind enough to introduce himself when you sat down), fidgeting with a rather hideous tie
He was pulling on the ends of it, trying to get it to lay down straight but nothing he seemed to do made the fabric behave
After watching him struggle for a moment, you giggled quietly
“What’s so funny?”
“Your tie. You did it wrong.”
Mark couldn’t help but flush in embarrassment
“I haven’t really had to wear a tie recently. I’m kinda out of practice.”
“Did you want some help?”
He nodded sheepishly
It was almost romantic, the way you leaned over and redid his tie for him, fingers trying to move quickly despite how the trembled slightly
Mark tried to look anywhere but you, but your concentrated face was so cute he couldn’t help his eyes as they drifted over your features
Your blushed cheeks made you even cuter
Mark watched as you finished, your hands resting on his chest lightly as you made eye contact
Only the clearing of the interviewers throat made you two jump apart finally
She was staring down at you, a teasing smile on your face as she called you to her office for her interview
“Good luck,” he called quietly
The smile you gave him made his knees weak
Of course he got the job, and of course he was amazing at it
He was just a natural performer, entertaining the crowd
Every passenger could easily sense his passion for the things he was talking about, and it made them enjoy it that much more
(it also helped that he was extremely easy on the eyes)
Despite being able to talk and get to know people, be with animals all day, and get paid for basically being a kid again, Mark still thinks the best part of his job is seeing you every day
You make sure to pop into one of his tour every once and awhile, sitting right near the front so you can oogle at him all you want
Mark still remembers the shock of seeing you getting on his boat on his first day on the job
You looked up at him with those big ol eyes and made his heart melt
This of course did not go unnoticed by Eric, who had basically become his mentor of sorts
All it took was a single pep talk from him to get Mark off his ass to ask you out
Of course you said yes
It was obvious to everyone the minute you started dating, but who cares?
Nothing was more entertaining than watching you two sitting together and munching on the overpriced and bland cafeteria food, looking at each other with hearts in your eyes

what do you think the history between simeon and the sinblings is? like both parties hint at there having been a long standing friendship and theyre all on amicable terms with e/o even after the War (tm) maybaps left-on-good-terms-exes luci/simeon?? ex pet sitter / assistant /subordinate angel in training?? whatre your thoughts ?
hmmm!! I have a lot of logistics I haven’t worked through yet, but if you want to read an absolute dumpster fire of thoughts, it’s under the cut:
as it stands, I think that the only reason they’d send someone like Simeon along with a loose cannon kid like Luke is that Simeon is amazingly competent/devout. I’ve written about it before, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Celestial Realm sent Simeon 100% with the intention of being a spy/to make sure Diavolo’s not up to any shenanigans.
(w/the added bonus of getting to see how Lucifer/the sinblings are all doing/if the Celestial Realm should be worried.)
the best way to keep their relationships intact post Celestial War would be if Simeon didn’t participate at all! like, if he was around near the beginning, but maybe he was unable to participate in the actual battle where Lucifer n the brothers fell. that way he could at least have some kind of plausible deniability in their eyes/wouldn’t be known to them as actively trying to shoot them down or be responsible for Lilith’s death lmaooo
here are my completely pulled outta my ass headcanons until someone gives me better ones lol (WARNING: IT GOT SUPER LONG LMFAO)
*additional warning, I didn’t do any prior research, this is straight up all from my dumb brain, so if it clashes w canon, whoops???
Lucifer: ALRIGHT *CRACKS KNUCKLES* I’ve expressed my headcanons before that I think Lucifer probably had a big ol Thing with Michael, and Simeon probably just knew about it. I think that Simeon had a big ol boner for Lucifer just like the rest of the Celestial Realm.
He’s obviously cautious at first because Lucifer is a demon now, and exhibits a lot more violent tendencies, but he’s mainly interested in the relationship that Lucifer has with Diavolo because the reports of Lucifer aligning with the Future King of the Devildom could potentially be a VERY BAD THING…  It’s gotten a little more tense now that they’re… here. at RAD, but overall, he’s surprised to find out that Lucifer, while still an ornery old man, seems to fit in with the Devildom with ease/loosened up a little. If I’m still going by my above “Simeon is a casual spy” theory, then I think Simeon would be even more pleased!
Lucifer @ Simeon at all times is like /SUSPICIOUS STARE, even if Simeon is like, come now, Lucy. They have ex-boyfriend energy even if there was never any actual dating. Simeon is now able to tease Lucifer, unlike their time in the Celestial Realm where Lucifer had an entire tree up his ass. now it’s a more reasonable branch.
Mammon: THERE’S ANOTHER ASK ABOUT MAMMON AND SIMEON IN MY INBOX THAT I’D LIKE TO FINISH, but I love love loooove Simeon and Mammon being acquaintances. They knew each other in the Celestial Realm, again, not besties, but I don’t see Simeon being particularly close to any of the brothers except maybe Asmo. The biggest thing that makes me laugh is that I can see Simeon/Mammon talking about Lucifer in the Celestial Realm/at RAD about Simeon’s crush on Lucifer, but to Simeon’s chagrin.
Mammon @ Celestial Realm: he’s an asshole, you know.
Simeon: lovely.Mammon @ RAD after seeing Simeon meet Lucifer again: … he’s still an asshole.
Simeon: lovely.
Mammon may be one of Simeon’s favorite brothers, because despite the greed, his ardent love for his family warms Simeon’s angel heart ;~;
Levi: My own personal headcanon for Levi (and I’d really like to finish up writing my fic/meta for him) is that he was an angel in charge of guarding secret beasts at the bottom of the ocean! (and was a beast himself) So while he spent a majority of time in the human realm, it was in the ocean where he’d maybe get to like, see humanity from their boats a la little mermaid and ariel watching eric from the boat/on the shore? So spent like, 93% of his time alone, and the other 7% was reporting up to the Celestial Realm.
It was a prestigious job, an honor–but was lonely, and Levi hated it. Simeon probably sees him as someone that works in another department but also like, has no personal opinion because he’s never spoken to the other–but he has heard of Leviathan’s might, of course. Present time… Simeon is baffled by all of the brother’s changes, but he has no idea how to make the connection between the mystical sea guardian Leviathan to the otaku brother that never leaves his room? regardless of Levi’s ranking in the brothers, Levi is his least threatening/least assuming to Simeon. He can also see that Levi is kind, despite all his… strange quirks, so he likes him fine! :D
Simeon also has a reputation among the angels, so Levi probably knews of him too! There was no reason for Simeon to talk to him when they were angels, and there’s honestly no other reason for Simeon to talk to him now. It’s probably because of the exchange program trying to make them friends or something, but there’s… he’d never actually want to be friends with Levi, so that’s stupid.
(He doesn’t mind when Simeon talks to him about things, though, so it’s nice. Even if he’s sus of it.)
Satan: Since Satan was born after the fall, I feel like Simeon would know this brother the least! He’s incredibly curious to meet “Lucifer’s Wrath”, having heard many reports about this in heaven. He’s probably pleasantly surprised to see that Satan is far more charming than the initial reports of savagery from when he was first born. Simeon sees a lot of Lucifer in him, but there’s a more wild/freer nature to him than Lucifer’s iron will @ all times.
All in all, not a bad devil, but Simeon is reasonably watchful of him at all times due to his history. They get along fine in classes/they’re perfectly civil with each other! Satan probably thinks that Simeon watches him with a bit more interest than comfortable, but he also gets it. Satan wants to see Simeon get riled up though, out of scientific curiosity :3c
Asmo: This one is a BLATANT indulgent headcanon, not much canon to back it up except for that one time that Simeon said Asmo is still as beautiful as he was in heaven sflkasdkf. No idea what Asmo did before, but I’d like to imagine Simeon and Asmo were actually friends! Asmo’s beauty was widely regarded, and perhaps they would talk in passing? About Lucifer in most cases, lmao, but sometimes they’d chat.
Their distance when reunited in the Devildom is 100% Asmo being flippant about the fall, and being self conscious in front of his old friend about how much he’s changed. Asmo being torn between being upset to hear if Simeon thinks less of him for being who he is/aggressively “uncaring”. Who cares what anyone thinks of him, you know? He knows he’s beautiful. (But Simeon knew him when he was loved without being a sexual creature, and that… stings.)
Simeon thinks while Asmo has definitely picked up less than delightful personality traits, is actually… happy to see that Asmodeus still has his family around. He’s happy to see the other seems at ease, even if he doesn’t truly know the depths of Asmo’s insecurities. It’s a little offputting to have Asmo treat him flippantly/deny their past, but hey, he understands. There’s a lot of history between them, both their own and the sins of others. deep down, Simeon genuinely adores Asmo, and Asmo is CONFUSED by the fact that Simeon is trying to act like nothing’s changed when everything has! how dare he! is he mocking asmo! rude!
(somethin like that, idk)
Beel: Simeon worries about Beel’s ability to eat anything and everything as much as the next person. The gluttony is hard for him to stomach, being a holy prick and all, but Beel as a personality is obviously soft and tender, and Simeon thinks that’s sweet.
in current times, Simeon makes some great fuckin’ snacks, he loves Simeon. Simeon just seems like a pleasant dude, and Beel’s never really that interested in him past like, basic civil decency. Which is pretty funny ajskdjfas  Beel’s memories of the Celestial Realm all probably revolve around his family/when Lilith was alive, so he’d distantly remember Simeon but it’s.. hard. that time is hard for him.
Belphegor: In the Celestial Realm, Beel and Belphie where honestly like… Lucifer’s kid brothers that he may have seen or interacted with a few times in passing. In present canon, Simeon is Very Aware of Belphegor. The biggest threat of the brothers at this point in time, especially after all of the murdering and timeline switches. He may not admit it, but he is keeping a Close Eye on Belphie, regardless of his sudden shift to adoring MC.
Belphie probably knew about Simeon, just because of Simeon’s rank but again, they’re… little brothers. (I’d love to see them being portrayed as a little bit older than Luke during the Celestial War? Just angsty teenagers Belphie and Beel.) Belphie has been distrustful of angels since the Celestial War, and it probably carries into present canon. Especially because Simeon watches him with a careful eye and Belphie isn’t fucking blind–but hey, he gets it too. He did plan to destroy the human realm.
I can see Belphie being the only brother to actively dislike Simeon–he’ll be civil at combined Lucifer/Diavolo threat for Lucifer’s sake, but also Belphie is a sour bitch and thinks Simeon is the snakiest one of them all. (not true, belphie, you’re projECTING!!!) obviously, this is all never spoken out loud and they all just exist near each other. cautiously.
lmfao because it would be like,
Beel: look at these sandwiches Simeon gave me!
Belphie: whatever.
LASTLY I’D LIKE TO @canonlucidia BECAUSE THEY HAVE SO MANY GOOD IDEAS, AND I’M SURE THEY COULD CONTRIBUTE SOMETHING MUCH BETTER!!!!!!

Last Friday, I had the absolute joy and privilege to see Be More Chill in London!
(Yes, last Friday, this has been sitting in my drafts for over a week because I couldn’t figure out how to appropriately convey my delight with this show, and also yes, joy and privilege, call me dramatic but I swear to god nothing on this Earth makes me appreciate my life quite as live theatre.)
I have loved this show for a very long time. Not quite since its first Two Rivers Theatre run, but very early on from when it caught the internet’s attention. I was at the start of what was to become a viral sensation, and I was with the show, rooting for it, hoping for it, ever since. I feel like I walked the journey from crossing million hits on Spotify to the Broadway alongside the cast and creators. I felt immensely happy and proud for these people I never met when they announced their off-Broadway return, and I honest to god cried the day they opened on Broadway. Needless to say, I was overjoyed, literally jumping with happiness, when they announced they will stage a production on West End. Or technically off-West End? I’m still very confused how The Other Palace is not West End and Victoria Palace literally around the corner is West End... Anyway. I have not walked into that theatre on Valentine’s Day with low expectations.
And my Mount Everest high expectations were far, far exceeded and shot somewhere into the stratosphere.
I really can’t with words describe how much I loved this show. Joes Iconis and Tracz managed to hit some very special spot with this musical. It’s truly hard to describe, but this show just makes you happy. It makes you involved and interested. And I gotta tell you, I think we hit the press night, because there was a bunch of people (very respectfully) scribbling on their pads and iPads during the show, so this wasn’t an audience primed and geared for this type of musical. And that’s not even counting all the parents chaperoning their teenagers. And I can guarantee you everyone had a great time. During the intermission I went to get a drink and witnessed several conversations between aforementioned parents that all pretty much amounted to “wow, this is actually good!” It’s honestly such a treat to be in an audience that’s genuinely enjoying themselves.
This show is funny, and heartfelt, and charming. So charming. It has somehow a vibe of a really well done high school production, which could maybe sound like a criticism but i swear it isn’t!
I haven’t seen much of the previous productions, except few clips from the Two Rivers bootleg slime tutorial, but I really tried not to watch too much, hoping against hope there will be a revival one day (I try not to watch shows I have a chance of seeing one day. I’m fortunate to have the chance of having the full experience live so I try not to ruin it for myself lol). I gobbled up all the official promo clips and videos from the NYC revival, being super unlucky and managing to plan my New York trip in that small window when BMC just closed Off-Broadway and before it got on Broadway. I haven’t even listened to the Broadway recording, because by the time it came out I knew they’ll be staging a production over here. So i went in quite blind. With all that previous ado, this is how it was:
The book is so good. So so good. Many times when I fall in love with an album, the actual musical doesn’t hold up because the book doesn’t compare (hi, Dear Evan Hansen). But BMC is as engaging and fun between the songs as during them. Tbh I don’t love the changes to the songs they made, but I don’t really hate them either... Now having listened to the Broadway recording they reverted somewhat back to the original album on West End and I’m happy they did, but still. Especially Pitiful Children did not deserve the cuts. But I mean its still mostly the same album and it’s brilliant and fun, and ok, Looser, Geek or Whatever is a bop.
(Although I always kinda liked that Jeremy didn’t have a typical big “hero song” because he keeps mentioning how he isn’t a hero and it was kinda ironic that his own show refused him the hero treatment, but the song is solid.)
This cast is EVERYTHING. I’m sorry all previous casts, I love you and I respect you but i really think the British cast is (so far) the peak? Obviously as I said I don’t have the full picture to compare, but honestly these guys are all so good and I can’t imagine anyone else in these roles, they set the bar so high. Yes, even Michael. Omg I’m so sorry George Salazar! This role is his in a very special way, and I feel blasphemous saying this! But that’s what makes Blake Patrick Anderson so special, because I didn’t think I will ever be able to accept another Micheal than George Salazar. But from the first moment Anderson appears on stage, you don’t think of George Salazar. This right here is a Micheal and that’s it. I think he’s slightly less... Manic, than Salazar, and more caring, but also more stubborn, and nerdy. My friend said after the first act the character’s problem is that he’s a bit too likeable and it’s almost unbelievable he would be a social outcast and she was right. The dude is so damn likeable! So charming, so positive. And then Micheal in the Bathroom hits and omg does it hit. Also Blake Patrick Anderson has a really long name is very pretty. A+ snack. I’m in love. Scott Folan is, uh, I don’t really love him vocally... Ok I liked him until Loser Geek of Whatever. I don’t know, maybe it wasn’t his day. Or maybe that song is just written for Will Roland and no one will ever measure up? Tbh I haven’t seen Roland sing it live so who knows, maybe it is one of those songs that’s hard to perform without yelling a bit. Praying circle for the West End cast album? However Scott Folan’s acting is a masterclass. He’s so awkward in the first act, so sad, but also sweet. Actually I said i didn’t love his singing but when his voice cracks all over in his first few songs it’s superb and also his “Christiiine~” is really beautiful and lovely, so, dunno *shrugs*. And then in the second half he totally sells his confidence and assholer-y and like... They seem like two different jeremys, the squipped and un-squipped one. But ultimately he just gives such good-kid vibes. He seems like the perfect midpoint between Will Connolly’s shy Bambi and Roland’s geeky recluse. This Christine is absolutely feral. Like, you have no idea. Some people commented on the video of I Love Play Rehersal from the rehearsals that this Christine is not chaotic enough, so I’m seriously worried how chaotic Stephenie Hsu was? :D In any case Miracle Chance I thought was perfect, the ideal mixture of quirky but relatable, sweet but strong. Also she is hilarious. I’m pretty sure she got the most laugh out of the audience, not just because the actress’s absolutely perfect comedic timing but also that role is so well written. Like you really can’t get the full idea of this character until you watch the show, you know? It’s very layered, but each layer is easy to get so she makes a really fun character to watch. The Squip is hot. Like so hot. And his costumes are wonderful. And I know I’m not the only one who didn’t love Jason Tam’s accent as Squip and like... I think I know what he was going for but it just doesn’t work for me. This Squip is a lot more like Eric William Morris, just more hot. Oh yeah I mean the dude is fantastic actor too, and his voice is something impressive, but mostly I was just thinking “hot” whenever he was on stage :D James Hameed’s Rich is vocally stunning. By far the best Squip Song I have ever heard. Also he has Pickle Rick tattoo?? It’s fucking brilliant I HATE IT! :D Millie O’Connel is perfect of course. She has such a presence on stage. It was hilarious when she came out after the show, with her hair down and make-up off and said hi and people mostly kinda ignored her cause... She’s really a hurricane on stage and when she dials it down just a notch I really think people don’t connect her to her stage persona :D
(Also like, massive kudos to The Other Palace’s stage door, cause they allow you to just hang around the bar where the cast has to go through to leave the place, so no dirty alleyways stage dooring in rain and cold and possible pickpockets around.)
I really loved the staging, and it’s very small, very minimal, which isn’t something I normally like, so well done! They definitely dialled back from the Broadway (the bean bags are back!) and honestly the minimal props and simple set really suit this show. It adds to that almost-like-a-really-good-school-play charm. But also they have this massive LED screen as the background so they can change and move and animate their backdrop and it’s honestly so impressive. The artwork is so perfectly in line with the show’s aesthetic. And it’s building up and up towards the show’s climax which I thought was pretty subtle and pretty neat creative decision.
Ugh this is so long I didn’t think it would be so long :D But I have one criticism I cannot not mention. And I kinda always had this, but seeing it live it jumps out on me more - I don’t feel Jeremy and Christine :| I mean don’t get me wrong. The actors have amazing chemistry, their added song is the one that I actually really like and it makes sense, there’s so much more meaningful interaction they have in the show than the songs wold suggest. But. It still doesn’t quite sit well. Besides the fact that I don’t think the show’s narrative is about Jeremy getting the girl - that’s not really his character arc. But also, although they’re not incompatible, he gets the girl he doesn’t even really know, and she definitely doesn’t know him. I think I would prefer if they just stayed friends at the end, but if there had to be romantic conclusion... Well, I mean who doesn’t ship boyf friends, but seriously if Michael was a girl I’m pretty sure he’d be the romantic endgame for Jeremy. You know the type, the old friend who was by the protagonists side and believed in him all along? Yeah. But besides that, i was surprised to find I kinda liked Jeremy with Brooke too? I mean they have the same problem as Jeremy and Christine, with not knowing each other and all that, but at least it’s mutual, and they seemed to have a spark. But maybe it’s just because I unexpectedly really, really loved Brooke (she doesn’t have much space on the album and no one ever really talks about her, why does no one really talk about her???). She defies a lot of her archetype, she seems like such a sweet person. I guess I would just like to see more of her, and more depth to her, which a romance with the protagonist would’ve given her.
But tbh the show devotes a lot more time than I thought it would for Christine and Jeremey’s relationship to develop and it isn’t unrealistic, so it ended up being a pretty minor issue, which i though would be a bigger one.
Tl;dr (oh my god why is this so long????) this show is everything I wanted and more. The West End cast is amazing, charming and delightful and each of them is perfectly cast to really embody their character, while giving some fresh outlook on characters I thought I knew very well and filling very big shoes of the original cast I thought couldn’t be replaced. Also I didn’t talk to any of them but they spend a long time hanging out with the fans after the show and seemed genuinely super nice and pleased with the love the show is getting. The book is more than an equal partner to the music I already was in love with (also Joe Iconis was at the show I saw! I didn’t talk to him because I’m me and I will forever regret it!). The Other Palace’s staging and direction is wonderful, and the choreography is impressive and very on brand with the rest of the show, very modern, very electro and robot. I enjoyed every second and the standing ovation at the end was well deserved.
Just to re-affirm how much I loved this show - just few days after seeing it I booked a ticket to go see it again almost immediately lol. So if anyone is seeing it this Wednesday 26th Feb and you can telepathically pick me in the audience come say hello!
(Or like, drop me a message like a normal person if you’re also going alone and want to meet with someone to seem less like a weirdo! :D)

25 for the shippy starters !!
thank you em!! ✨✨✨
(somehow SOMEHOW this turned into a 2.5k extravaganza of OVER-EMOTIONAL SAP? wow hOW ON-BRAND)
(i.....just leave me here on the ground, i don’t even know)
(oh man i hope you enjoy it)
no. 25 “I can’t believe you talked me into this.”
“I can’t believe you talked me into this.”
Lucas adjusts his grip on the plastic container he’s holding. “For the last time, it’ll be fine. We only need to stay for like, an hour, tops, and then you never have to pretend to be my boyfriend again.”
“It’s not that I’m worried about,” Eliott argues, shifting the bottle of wine he’s holding into the crook of his elbow. “It’s the fact that I’m going to have to face your dad’s entire family.” His eyes are wide. “Your cousin, the one with the hair, she terrifies me. She’s always giving me weird looks.”
The one with the hair. Lucas hates that he knows exactly who Eliott means.
Lucas’s cousin Sandra is the same age as Lucas, and takes it upon herself to drop by Lucas’s apartment, unannounced. Usually she only did it during holidays, but ever since she ran into Eliott once, when he was on his way out, her visits have doubled in frequency.
“Yeah, well, imagine a lifetime of having to deal with that,” Lucas grumbles under his breath. He’s looking forward to spending time with his dad, and his dad’s extended family, as much as he looks forward to the flu.
Only, his dad had told him, in no uncertain terms, that if Lucas didn’t come to his grand-mère’s birthday party, then Lucas would also have to stop asking his dad for money.
You never act like you’re a part of this family, his dad had said to him on the phone.
You’re right, I don’t, Lucas had thought. Because I’m not, am I? I don’t even think you want me to be.
Lucas’s family was his mother, Yann, Imane, Manon, and Eliott. It wasn’t his dad, his dad’s new wife, or any of his dad’s family.
But Lucas’s grand-mère has always been kind to him. And as much as he hates it, he does need help from his dad to pay rent.
So he’s going, but he’s not going alone.
“Here,” Eliott says, reaching a hand out to Lucas when they turn a corner, coming up on Lucas’s aunt’s house, with it’s tall windows and gated driveway and spacious yard. Eliott wiggles his fingers at him. “You ready?”
Lucas stares down at his hand. “What are you doing?”
“Trying to hold your hand,” Eliott says, like it’s obvious, as though that’s something they do all the time. “We’re a couple now, right?”
Lucas hesitates. He hesitates because he only asked Eliott to pretend to be his boyfriend as a way to get his Aunt Edith and all of his cousins off of his back. He hesitates because he only asked Eliott to be his boyfriend because he needed someone there for him, someone to support him, and the party was supposed to be close family and partners only. He hesitates because he didn’t fully consider how painful it would be to hold Eliott’s hand and pretend, when all he wants is to hold his hand for real.
But Lucas craves the comfort more than air.
So he reaches out and takes Eliott’s hand, entwining their fingers and squeezing once. Eliott squeezes back.
“If it gets to be too much,” Eliott says quietly as they start up the driveway, gravel crunching under their feet, “just tell me, and I can get us out of there. I can fake a sickness or something.”
Lucas lets out a breath. “Thank you.” He turns to look up at Eliott, watches the way the sunlight turns his hair bright gold, his eyes ice-grey. “I mean it. Thank you.”
“Lucas, come on,” Eliott laughs. “We’ve been friends for years. I’d do anything for you. This is nothing.”
“Right,” Lucas murmurs, stopping them on the front porch, “nothing.” He presses down on the doorbell.
“It’s so weird places like this exist in Paris, isn’t it?” Eliott asks, his gaze surveying the elaborate garden and lush green grass of the front yard. “I always forget there are parts of the city that aren’t metal and stone and shitty apartments.”
“This isn’t Paris,” Lucas says, right before the door opens, “this is another planet.”
Aunt Edith greets them like Lucas is her long-lost son, pulling him into a hug and cooing when Lucas shows her the cookies he made. When she turns her gaze onto Eliott, it’s appraising, obviously curious.
“Lucas,” she says, a hand resting over her chest daintily. “Who is this gorgeous young man you’ve brought with you?”
“Aunt Edith,” Lucas says with a strained smile, “I told you I was going to bring my—”
“I’m Eliott.” He drops Lucas’s hand so he can lean forward and kiss Edith on both of her cheeks. “Lucas’s boyfriend.”
“Oh.” Edith says, eyes drifting from Eliott to Lucas and back again. She gives a light laugh. “How silly of me, Lucas, you did say you were bringing someone. I forgot.”
Lucas can hear what she’s not saying. I thought you were making it up.
He can feel his cheeks flushing because he did have to make it up. He had to convince one of his best friends to pretend to be his boyfriend.
“I brought wine,” Eliott says pleasantly, offering the bottle up. “For you, to say thank you for allowing me to come.”
“You are so darling. Come with me to the kitchen, I’ll get you both a drink.”
It goes the same way whenever Eliott meets any member of the family, the same wide eyes and disbelieving expression, the same, oh yes Lucas, I heard you were bringing someone but I didn’t think…
It’s a lot for Lucas, the judgement and embarrassment being thrown at him in every interaction. A particular comment from an uncle about queers makes Lucas want to throw his wine glass into the wall.
It’s especially hard because Eliott plays his part perfectly. Almost too perfectly. He’s attentive to Lucas, filling up his wine glass when it’s empty, getting him water when he’s thirsty, occasionally resting his hand on Lucas’s lower back, resting his arm over the back of Lucas’s chair when they sit down.
He’s acting the way Lucas always imagines he would act as someone’s boyfriend: sweet and charming and loving. (Acting the way that Lucas always imagines he would act as Lucas’s boyfriend, during those endless nights when Lucas is feeling particular lonely and lovestruck.) It’s a lot, to get a glimpse of that, and to know it will never be his. Not really.
They’ve only been there for half an hour, and Lucas is ready to leave.
He’s considering asking Eliott to fake an illness when Sandra comes tottering over to them on a pair of dangerously high heels.
“Lucas,” she says, but she’s staring at Eliott, biting down on her bottom lip. Eliott shifts on the spot, clearing his throat and looking away.
“How are you, Sandra?”
Her eyes snap over to Lucas. “I heard that you brought your boyfriend. Where is he?”
Fucking hell.
“That’s me,” Eliott says, flatly, and he’s staring back at Sandra now, eyes hard. “I’m Lucas’s boyfriend.”
“Really,” Sandra says. “Now that’s interesting because I’ve only seen you over at Lucas’s once.”
Eliott shrugs. “We’re both pretty busy with school and work.” He slides an arm around Lucas’s waist, tugging Lucas gently to his side. “I don’t see him nearly as much as I’d like to.”
Sandra still doesn’t look convinced. Lucas tries to project his silent mantra of stop asking questions, stop asking questions, out to her, as though she can read his mind.
“It’s just funny,” Sandra says eventually, taking a sip of her drink. “I wouldn’t picture Lucas with someone like you.”
Now, Eliott smiles. “I know,” he says, pressing a kiss to the side of Lucas’s head. “I’m so lucky. I don’t know what he sees in me.” He pauses, tilts his head down to meet Lucas’s eyes. “You really are the most amazing person,” Eliott says quietly. “I can’t imagine not being in love with you.”
Sandra’s face is beautiful a mix of shock and distaste, but Lucas can’t appreciate it because he might be on the edge of a breakdown.
He bites down on his tongue. I can’t do this.
“I have to—bathroom,” Lucas manages to squeak out, slipping out from under Eliott’s arm and fleeing out of the living room. He’s making a beeline towards the stairs up to the second floor, breathing hard, head swimming, when he’s stopped by a hand on his arm.
“Lucas.” And of fucking course it’s his dad.
“I can’t…” Lucas swallows down a shuddering breath. “I can’t talk right now, I need to—”
“You think you can show up here with him?” Eric Lallemant’s tone is biting, the inflection on him leaving no room for who he’s talking about. “You think it’s right to parade that in front of my family?”
My family.
“Dad,” Lucas’s voice is cracking at the edges. “You know I’m gay. You’ve known for years.”
“It’s one thing to know it, and another to see it,” Eric snaps and god, can Lucas get a fucking break?
“Excuse me.” There’s someone shouldering between the two of them, someone who is tall and warm and smells a bit like smoke. “I think that’s enough.”
Eric sputters. “You dare to—”
“You dare to speak to your child that way? What kind of person are you?”
Silence. Eric looks furious.
Lucas has to swallow three times before he can speak. “I’ve never been a part of this family, and I don’t want to be a part of it. We don’t have to do this.” His voice is small, but just being able to get the words out makes him stand a little straighter, makes him stop shaking. “We don’t have to pretend.”
Eric’s gaze shifts between Lucas and Eliott, his face a bright shade of red. Lucas is expecting him to start yelling, but all he says is, “I think you both should leave,” before he turns on his heel and strides out of the hallway.
“Fuck,” Lucas can feel tears building in his eyes, tries to blink them away. “Fuck, fuck, fuck. God, fuck him.”
“Baby.” Eliott is turning around reaching his hands up to cup Lucas’s face. “Baby, I’m so sorry. What can I do? Do you want to go home?”
Lucas hiccups once. He wants to leave, yeah, in fact he should have left as soon as he arrived, but. Baby.
“Don’t,” he whispers. He doesn’t want to say it, but he suddenly needs to. Eliott needs to know. “Don’t say those things to me, I can’t…”
Eliott’s voice is quiet. “What?”
“I can’t hear it, Eliott. You can’t call me baby, you can’t tell me you love me if you don’t mean it.”
Eliott gently wipes away a tear on Lucas’s cheek with his thumb. “But I do mean it.”
“Not like that.”
There’s a brief pause, then, “Yeah, like that.”
Lucas pulls back, but Eliott is still there, holding his face so gently, eyes so serious. “Eliott, you can’t joke about this, I don’t think I can—”
“I’m in love with you.” Everything stops. Lucas doesn’t even think he’s breathing. “I’m sorry this is such shit timing. I was going to tell you after but, I just…” Eliott leans forward until their foreheads touch. “I’m so in love with you, okay? I agreed to pretend to be your boyfriend because I had to know what it was like. I just had to know. Even though I wanted it for real.”
“Eliott.” Lucas grips onto his forearms, desperately holds on. Eliott.
“Your dad is such a dick. I’m sorry, but I can’t believe he talked to you like that. You’re so special Lucas, okay? You’re so easy to love. I meant what I said in the living room, and I hate hearing people say things to you that—”
“I love you too,” Lucas blurts out, rendered almost useless by the smile Eliott gives him, wide and generous and unabashed. He sighs. “And you’re right, my dad is a dick. I don’t know why I thought it would be okay to come.”
Eliott folds Lucas into his arms, one hand on the back of his head, the other across his shoulders, and Lucas buries his face in Eliott’s neck.
“No pretending, okay? Not anymore.”
Lucas nods against Eliott’s neck. Eliott kisses the top of his head.
“Can I take you home?”
Lucas nods again. “Please.”
Eliott gathers their jackets, and Lucas ventures into the living room to steal a bottle of Edith’s expensive rosé and to flip Sandra off when he leaves.
He turns towards the front door, and there’s his grand-mère, leaning on her cane and speaking softly with Eliott. She smiles when she sees Lucas.
“Chérie,” Her voice is warm. “I’m so happy to see you.”
Lucas’s throat is tight when he leans in for a hug. “Salut. Joyeux anniversaire.”
She scoffs. “When you’ve had as many birthdays as I’ve had, they become less of an occasion.” Her gaze slides back to Eliott. “I was just telling your young man here that he better take care of you.”
Eliott smiles, shyly, eyes cast down, but when Lucas says, “He does,” they to meet his, and Lucas’s breath catches, because Eliott is looking at Lucas like Lucas is a book, like Eliott can’t wait to open his pages and dive into his stories.
It’s consuming.
“Love is all there is, you know,” his grand-mère says sagely, squeezing Lucas’s shoulder with a gentle hand. Her smiles turns somber. “I’ll speak with Eric. He should know better.”
“No, that’s not—”
“I will speak with him.” Her tone leaves no room for argument, so Lucas nods, whispers a quiet merci into her ear when he hugs her goodbye.
“Enjoy that wine,” she tells him and Eliott with a wink before the door shuts behind them.
Both of them let out a breath when it closes; both of them wander down to the end of the driveway, the sounds and smells of Paris rushing back to their senses as though they’ve both just emerged from a deep-sea dive.
“So,” Eliott says, “what now?”
Lucas smiles to himself, bites down on his lower lip, while he thinks. “Right now?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I know I said I wanted to go home, but I feel…I feel a bit restless.”
“Okay,” Eliott says easily. “So what do you want to do?”
“I want,” Lucas says at length, stretching his hand out between them, “to call my maman. I also want to walk down to the Seine, open this bottle, and I want to kiss you. Is that chill?”
Eliott laughs. “That’s chill.”
His fingers slide between Lucas’s, and Lucas is reminded again why he doesn’t need to come to these events, why he doesn’t need these people.
He already has a family.
Eliott squeezes his fingers once. “You ready?”
Lucas squeezes back. “Let’s go.”

The Secret Life of Pets 2
Tumblr media
This is gonna be short and sweet, just like I would prefer this movie to be. I know *I’m* the weirdo because I go see all these kids’ movies when I have no kids, hang around no kids, and have less than no interest in kid things. so is it really my fault if a kids’ movie doesn’t grab me? No. BUT, I think we can all agree, there’s a sliding scale that exists from Pixar’s best to The Emoji Movie, and it makes a big difference which end of the scale you end up on. So where does The Secret Life of Pets 2 end up on this scale? Well...
Somewhere below Cars 3 and above your lesser Land Before Times probably. I wanted to like it, I really did - it features Patton Oswalt, my literal comedy hero, as main character Max (replacing Louis CK from the first film, and good riddance) plus a great supporting cast including Harrison Ford(!), Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, and Eric Stonestreet. But a lot of it feels kinda...soulless? The overall feel is the kind of easy-to-swallow sugary sweetness of a Saturday morning cartoon paired with a bowl of Lucky Charms. There’s nothing WRONG with it, for sure! But I was hoping for something a little more emotionally resonant and what I got was a barely related A, B, and C plot that felt disjointed and evaporated as quickly as your hearts, stars, clovers, horseshoes, and blue moons.
Like the first movie (which I admit I haven’t seen), this one follows the adventures of Max and the various pets that live in his high rise in NYC, including rabbit Snowball (Kevin Hart), floofy pomeranian Gidget (Jenny Slate), and aloof cat Chloe (Lake Bell). Max is super anxious because of all these new changes in his life - his humans have a kid now and he wants to protect him from EVERYTHING, which is stressful for a little guy! But when he heads out to the country for a family vacation, he meets tough dog Rooster (Harrison Ford) who teaches him a little something about getting in touch with his wild side. Other, completely separate and unrelated things are also happening with Snowball and Chloe + Gidget, but they are pretty lackluster tbh.
Some thoughts:
Right away I’m gonna say it, I feel very superior simply based on the way this film presents cats vs. dogs. Like maybe it’s because cats are just not really my jam, but this film does NOTHING to promote positive cat propaganda. These cats are horrifying nightmares.
While I don’t love the animated character design for everyone, I do have to confess, I find Max’s design so unbelievably charming and cute.
Of the supporting cast, Jenny Slate is by far my favorite, taking what could be a twee, ridiculous part and infusing it with a lot of warmth and humor.
Who leaves their windows open all day in Manhattan?? When they’re NOT HOME?? Is that a thing? That can’t be a thing.
Also what building are these people living in that they can all afford to 1) live in an apartment by themselves and 2) own a car in the middle of Manhattan? I know rent control is a thing but I am side-eyeing hard here.
As in all underwhelming movies, there is one moment that made me laugh upsettingly hard, because even in the darkest places you can find gems. The noise that the turkey on the farm makes, which is CLEARLY just a person making a fake turkey noise, was so face-splittingly funny to me, I’m still not over it.
The one really great aspect of the film is everything about the Max and Rooster interactions. Harrison Ford is pitch perfect as the gruff, begrudging mentor figure for an overwhelmed and anxious Patton Oswalt. Ford’s lines are by far the funniest in his deadpan grandpa voice, and Oswalt’s vibrating energy playing off that is a delight. Plus, this plot thread is the only one that is focused on a character actually growing and changing, so there are some actual emotional depths to plumb here. Basically I loved this A-plot and wish that it had been the focus of the entire movie. You could have easily done a full fish-out-of-water city dog in the scary countryside thing for 90 minutes and had the growth and change occur a little slower.
There’s an entire subplot with a tiger that makes not a lick of sense, wastes a very game Nick Kroll who’s trying to inject some amount of liveliness into the proceedings, and barely even delivers on a resolution. It feels very “we’re running out of ideas in the 11th season of a CBS sitcom.”
There is a series of dog and kid videos in the end credits of the film, taken from Youtube presumably, and they are funnier and more charming than at least half the movie. That’s not a great sign.
Did I Cry? Yeah, no.
Even for pet lovers like myself this was pretty disappointing. I’d watch the 30-minute version of just Max and Rooster’s scenes on repeat every Christmas, but other than that, you’re probably safe to give this one a pass.

My 5 Television/Movie Cushes
I will preface this list by saying that most of my crushes are on the fictional characters rather than the actors, except for the first. I am weird because I can think the character is cute and have a crush on them, but the actor or actress that plays them I dont have a crush on... like i have seperated them in my mind somehow, but still appreciate that they are good looking but not interested in them. Now in no particular order:
1. Cesar Evora
Tumblr media
My first ever crush was on Cesar Evora. I was so confused. It was 1998 and he was a priest on El Privilegio de Amar (The privilege of loving). At first I was just like "He is good and nice to look at, is it wierd that I like looking at a priest so much!?!", But then in 2002, he was in Entre el Amor y el Odio (between love and hate). It was the first televison show I was ever committed to. I didn't miss a single episode. It was also my introduction to sex at a very tender age. Specifically a sexual cesar evora who I started watching the show to see again... and continued to watch to see MORE of him... a lot more. I had feelings and curiosities I knew nothing of and pretty much continued to watch anything he was in just to see him.
2. Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Tumblr media
Katara was my third tv crush and It was weird because like while novelas and other dramas had been my introduction to sex/attraction/relationships which were all heterosexual and real people, I had no problem being head over heels for Katara. I thought she was beautiful. I could watch reruns of just her water bending for hours if possible. The way she moved and how kind and brave and strong she was, ugh. Like two years into the crush my friend pointed out that I might be too obsessed with her, and should shut that down. So I stopped watching the show. The older me eventually watched the whole series and realized my friend was an ass and really what harm was a tv crush on an animated character doing anyways.
3. Daniel Meade (Ugly Betty)
Tumblr media
My very first ship and OTP was Detty. Honestly, Daniel Meade was my first-sorta- problematic crush. I didnt see a problem but others did. He was immature and could be a real jerk in the beginning (sometimes even later on too although not in the same way) but then he would do all these little and big things for betty and/or his mom and I would just swoon. Plus the sad puppy eyes. Heart eyes every damn time. Like I loved him and would defend his character even when he did something stupid. And like I understood what toxic and problematic relationships were and looked like. I did not like the Cole x Phoebe relationship on Charmed although I loved the Cole as a tragic character. But I didn't get those vibes from Daniel and Betty. And I just loved daniel to pieces. I think Eric Mabius just brought a lot to the character too and i just appreciate the work and writing that went into Daniel's character arch.
4. Mr. Darcy/Bridget Jones
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay so, I love pride and prejudice and every iteration pretty much. But the Bridget Jones's diary had me all sorts of messed up and in love with the two main characters. There is no better Darcy than Colin Firth who can pull off being two different Darcy's in a career and be incredibly charming, awkward, and amazingly handsome as both. I just loved this Darcy and I just wanted to kiss his face even when he was jerkish. Bridget...OMG. talk about problematic crush. She was just such a mess. But I loved her. She had a real normal person body and I was just fascinated with that. She was a drinker, smoker (total real life turn offs for me), and not smart when it came to men, But she was bold, honest, a total klutz, funny, awkward, inappropriate, and just so damn resilient. I was equally awed and enamored with her as Darcy.
4. Harry Greenwood ( Charmed [2018])
Tumblr media
My good God. Knowledgeable, dorky, can dodge a flying projectile and sustain massive amounts of damage, and the first male (in a female centric show) who isnt relegated to being passive or sidelined because the writers don't know how to write males interacting with females without making them problematic. I love and would die for Harry. His aesthetic is like killing me and just everything about him makes me want to hug him and never let go.
5. Prue Halliwell (Charmed [1998])
Tumblr media
Okay so you know that point in you life where you dont understand crushes and sexuality since you are a young bean and the world has not yet tried to discourage "wrong" or "shameful" feelings. My second tv crush was at that point. Prue just freaking got me: The oldest sibling taking care of her younger siblings, a bit controlling, held a lot in. I mean in some ways I wanted to grow up to be her, because I mean she was just so beautiful, intelligent, POWERFUL, and capable. Good lord, I just loved looking at her back then. I loved watching the show and just thought she was the prettiest, best, and most amazing character on tv. Now I love her for more reasons, but when i first saw the show those where my feelings. Also I don't think any sort of sexuality or attraction is wierd shameful or wrong. Just sharing that old experience or my tv crush.
What about y'all? Who were/are your tv and film crushes? Do y'all remember the first ones?

oh my god dude
im gonna put this under a cut bc this is a lot. this is a ride, have fun i guess
1. Your first OC ever?god. its got to be Super Kitty. when i was like … an incredibly small child I used to draw comic strips about this feline caped crusader, who was friends with everyone in the city, and the comics always involved him stopping an evil banana man from stealing money from the local bank. He was paid with donuts for his service to the city. i still remember how to draw him.
2. Do you have a personal favourite among your OCs?i’d get arrested if I didn’t answer this with Bronze, probably… but really, they’re very important to me
3. Have you ever adopted a character or gotten a character from someone else?man, i cant remember! i really dont think i have… P:
4. A character you rarely talk about?there’s loads of characters ive never even posted a single picture of on tumblr, i wouldnt even know where to start asdf
5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be? bronze is the easy answer, but… i guess that could also go to Servant or Westrin. Servant has a comic project in the works that basically stars him, sort of a series of one-shots about the things he’s experienced, i feel like that would be a good thing to take off and run with. Westrin’s just fun as hell, i love the guy.
6. Two OCs of yours that look alike despite not being related?real talk now… there’s at least five different characters that i refer to as a whole as “bronze-tangential”, who started out as, “what would bronze be like if they were in this world?” and then becoming their own thing within said world because i just get stupid attached
its an epidemic
7. Are your OCs part of any story or stories?nearly all of them, actually. that’s the main reason i make characters, after all! too many to really go into specifics here, again P:
8. Do you RP as any of your OCs? If you do, introduce one of your RP OCs here!not often, but i think Bronze and Westrin are the most common ones. unless playing a character in dnd, or running an npc in dnd counts… then a whole lot more hahaha
9. Would you ever be willing to give any of your OCs to someone else?it depends on the circumstances. i don’t really like the idea, though.
10. Introduce an OC with a complicated design? Westrin’s old getup is a pain to draw, and there was one other design i did that I cant find anywhere… whichever way, i dont often tend to draw super complicated things often
a couple fakemon ive designed though… heheh those can get pretty finicky
11. Is there any OC of yours you could describe as a “sunshine”? hmmmmmmmm my immediate thought was Eric Silverdale from a comic i was working on a few years ago. hes a darling, i want him to be my friend irl
12. Name an OC that isn’t yours but who you like a lothow could you do this to me i love each and every one of all my friends ocs GOD the first one who comes to mind is @d20-official‘s Smith, whos Bronze’s friend… everyone in that DND party actually
13. Do you have any troublemaker OCs? Rated on a scale from “harmless” to “honestly somewhat frightening”: -Baromet (charming and quite friendly but definitely a kleptomaniac),-Westrin (demigod of bards and travelers), -XEN09 (a nonsense hacker), -Conny (needlessly contrarian and dumb as HELL), -Enza Colie (long fucking story but hes a good-for-nothing), -Hemlocke (mad scientist, chaotic evil), -Iris (AI and hacker, VERY bad), -The Terminus (glitch-in-the-matrix demon, chaotic evil), -and Sydd (the Queen of the Faeries, hopefully the danger there needs no explaining :’D)
14. Introduce an OC with a tragic backstory Mmm… there’s a few of them, most obviously Lent (whose background I did a short comic about). Basically his entire town got eaten by ghosts and turned into zombies, he only barely survived with a sliver of his soul left.
15. Do you like to talk about your OCs with other people?yes, i often discuss storylines and such with friends
16. Which one of your OCs would be the best at biology (school subject)? Probably Bronze’s dad! I don’t talk about him much, but his name’s Devon Reed, and he was a biotech developer specialising in android design.
I often describe him as being something of a reverse Arthur Weasley - a very fatherly scientist fascinated to the moon and back with the concept of magic.
17. Any OC OTPs? having trouble thinking of a lot of them right now, but there’s Eric + Lent & Naiadine + Tailias from Emerald Sigil, Avken + Baromet from my space campaign world, Sydd + Wyvv from my unnamed campaign world, and I’ve been considering Westrin + Servant as an interesting dynamic in Servant’s story
18. Any OC crackships? My character Bismuth and @autistictimeknight‘s oc Eros. Theyre so fucking in love, I love it. Its been awhile but I do still think about them sometimes.
As I recall, Eros is an empath, she can read other people’s emotions. But Bismuth is a robot, and Eros can’t read her. Because of this Eros can let go of her fear of unintentionally manipulating the emotions of her date, which would hold her back from most other relationships.
19. Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why)Hey, meet Bronze! I definitely do not talk about them every five minutes, why would you say that.
Bronze was with me through two of the hardest years of my life so far, and being a DND character they grew with me, both as a fighter and as a person. They were non-binary before I started using those pronouns, they were the first character or person or anything who I fought someone about using the right pronouns for, they make a great icebreaker for if I want to see how someone reacts to non-binary pronouns …
One funny anecdote about Bronze is that when I first made them, their “gimmick” was that they would sometimes glitch out and mess up their speech, mostly because I wanted an excuse not to engage in the roleplaying (which I was very bad at). The interesting thing is that as I got better at interacting with the group, we both grew out of needing it very quickly.
I’m very proud of Bronze.
20. Do any of your OCs sing? If they sing, care to share more details (headcanon voice, what kind of songs they like etc)?Westrin is a bard! His singing voice sounds like Bill Wurtz and these are his theme songs.
21. Your most artistic OCProbably Westrin again, he writes a lot of songs… and Hallux is a game designer?
22. Is there any OC of yours people tend to mischaracterize? If yes, how? I honestly dont know… no-one talks to me about them, haha!
people use all manner of pronouns for bronze, though.
23. Introduce OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what the character would be like?I’m gonna go with Enza for this one. Enza Colie was originally written entirely because I wanted an antagonist for a short starring his sister, Jane Colie. But the more I fleshed out his reasonings for acting how he did and explored his character, the more I realised he’d make an even more interesting character if allowed to have a redemption arc, too.
I just want to state for the record that I was very reluctant to the idea, and he basically dragged his way out of the villain pit entirely of his own accord. I am dubiously proud of him, and also a bit scared.
24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?Probably either Eric (Big Man, Best Friend), Crocus (Mother figure), Reed (Father Figure), Westrin (hed just make a good friend u kno??), or Bismuth (she makes good conversation!)
25. The OC that resembles you the most (same hobby, height, shared like/dislike for something etc?)probably the homestuck fan-troll Hallux, but that’s mostly because they were based on a troll-sona I made awhile ago. They’re a hope/prospit game designer who is small and full of rage and love
oh, and there’s dave! dave’s a superhero speedster, existing in a modern-day superhero version of seattle. theyre idiot, just like me,
26. Have you ever had to change your OC’s design or something else about them against your will? this is an interesting one… i don’t think ive ever had something Bad in a design ive done called to my attention by someone, but I did create my character Servant at around the same time I was first really expanding the diversity of my casts. (since i don’t talk about him often, a little context: he’s a magic spirit creature bound to human form to serve the royal family of the land and follow their orders.)
somehow, younger-and-more-stupid me managed to have the revelation that making this “eternal slave” character literally anything other than a white man, especially as a white author, would be Pretty Not Good. im … thats really, really not something i should pat myself on the back for, but i do consider it one of the biggest bullets dodged in my artistic career so far that i realised that not all representation is good representation so quickly, before i could make that incredibly, incurably stupid mistake.
after that, trying to make sure my characters and their presentations don’t harm anyone pretty much has become a paranoia. i don’t seem to have stepped on any toes yet, but when it inevitably happens, please let me know - i didnt know, and i want to fix it!
27. Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song? None that I can think of, actually! I don’t really do that often.
28. Your most dangerous OC? god damn it i have no idea!!! is it the terminus? glitch in the matrix god of chaos motherfucker?is it sarle? terrifying calculating scientist with the power of the soul at her fingertips ??? is it ares??? is it athena????? is it petra?????? the gatekeeper????
… actually, the gatekeeper might be it, if “dangerous” just refers to “the amount of raw power it can wield”. the Gatekeeper is a titanic entity that exists in interdimensional multiverse space, and its implied to have the ability to create and destroy entire universe bubbles at will. for what cosmic purpose, no-one knows.
at a more personal scale, though, literally all of the aforementioned characters are pretty bad to run into too.
29. Which one of your OCs would go investigate an abandoned house at night without telling anyone they’re going?god. Mina or Tawn. Tawn is the Indiana Jonesy type and probably dumb enough, but also competent enough not to get into too much trouble there. Mina would probably drag her friends along.
30. Which one of your OCs would most likely have a secret stuffed animal collection? XEN09. No-one knows, because no-one knows xir personal identity. Xe absolutely does, though. It’s less of a secret if you know xir in person, but good luck finding out about it otherwise.
31. Pick one OC of yours and explain what their tumblr blog would be like (what they reblog, layout, anything really)dave just reblogs memes all the time tbh. they like to keep tabs on the ridiculous superhero news going on, and they show human jokes and cat videos to their alien gf. they dont really post or add to posts, but they talk in tags a lot.
32. Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonist and why? i want to say tawn because i literally just realised ive been imagining their voice as sounding like luigi this entire fucking time and i never realised until this exact instant
33. Your shyest OC?probably baromet. they prefer to keep to themself in their hideout, with their collection of shiny things. they don’t really enjoy trying to communicate much, mostly because they expect to get yelled at.
34. Do you have any twin characters?Yes! At least two sets;
- Crocus and Sarle. (x) (x) They don’t exactly have a very well-developed relationship, but they are both quite important to the plot of my campaign world, and they are both very interesting. Crocus is a motherly figure who just exudes friendliness, while Sarle is .. very much not that, a researcher studying very gruesome things and pushing the boundaries of reality.
- Jane and Enza Colie. I haven’t talked a whole lot about either of them here, but I’d rather leave their story to do the talking whenever I get around to it. Essentially, the both of them were intended to do the dirty work for their crime boss family, but Jane ditched to study medicine. Most of the conflict between the two of them comes out of Enza not understanding why she made the choice she did, and coming to understand how he’s been manipulated.
35. Any sibling characters? I can’t really think of any off the top of my head, I should … I should really work on that.
I can talk about Westrin, though. Westrin (a demigod of many things, but namely bards, travel, travelers, and people who are lost) often becomes close friends with mortals, sometimes practically adopting them. These people who consider him family, and people who have received his blessing, are able to use his surname, Brilanta, as their own if they choose. So I guess all of the Brilantas are siblings, at least in spirit.
Oh, and XEN09 has like, seven siblings. Xe is the second-oldest, and least remarkable.
36. Do you have OC pairs where the other part belongs to someone else (siblings, lovers, friends etc)? I already talked about Eros and Bismuth up there a ways in question 18, but I’ll talk about another relationship here. @autistictimeknight‘s character, Nova the Alchemist, is mentor and adopted parental figure to my character Munna. Munna … Munna isn’t a very good apprentice. She tries very hard.
37. Introduce an OC who is not quite human That’s most of them, I’m not quite sure what to say here. Bronze is an android? Bronze again? Westrin? All the aliens ??
38. Which one of your OCs would be the best dancer? man. uh. westrin or jean. or perhaps valencia.
39. Introduce any character you want ??? uhhhHHHhhHHH Lord Brillium is the reigning deity of the Cloud Kingdoms in the other campaign setting I’m working on. They represent light and the quest for knowledge, and spend most of their days in the Cathedral Observatory watching the stars.
40. Any fond memories linked to your characters? Feel free to share!one time bronze flew a hover-bike through the stained glass window in a cathedral blaring all star by smash mouth on their iguana
also one time bronze rickrolled a rakshasa demon and then pulled updog on it like, two minutes later
another time bronze scared off an entire army by pretending to be an automated security system
41. Has anyone drawn fanart of your OCs? If yes, maybe show a picture or two here (remember sources & permissions!)ive got a whole little folder on here from all you blessed people !!!! right now ive got a drawing quinn did of one o fmy characters as my lockscreen
but i think the one i’ll really never ever get over is this piece of Jane, by @rabendraws / @owoltron:
Tumblr media
(i bet you thought i forgot about this, dude. dude. think again.)
42. Which one of your OCs would be the most interested in Greek gods? this is kind of a weird question, m, I feel like Bismuth would find learning about the mythos utterly fascinating, as would Tawn.
43. Do you have any certain type when you create your OCs? Do you tend to favour some certain traits or looks? It’s time to confesshaha. uh. i might.
aside from the entire “bronze-tangential characters” thing i mentioned awhile back, I tend to really like designing characters with hair color lighter than their skin color. it just looks so cool man. i love drawing freckles but dont put them on enough characters. i like really curly hair, but also really long and flowy hair. i like drawing triangular body types, and pointy/prominent noses.
44. Something you like about your OCs in generaluhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is a really vague question. m. m.
45. A character you no longer use?there’s old versions of characters, but a lot of my older ones have been somehow repurposed. I guess there’s Turien, my first-ever DND character, who’s just kind of sitting dead now. Haven’t really done anything with him other than a pretty recent tangential character.
46. Has anyone ever told you that you treat your OCs badly? Not that I can think of.
47. Has anyone ever (friendly) claimed any of your OCs as their child? Im certain it’s happened, but I can’t remember any specific instances.
48. OC who is a perfect cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pureSpring. spring knows nothing of th dangers of the world who is letting them into fights someon eneeds to stop this
(spring roll, hehe.)
49. Which one of your OCs would most likely enjoy memesim not sure what this question is asking since many of my ocs actively enjoy memes including but not limited to westrin, dave, bronze, xen09, iris, and doctor archersen
50. Give me the good ol’ OC talk here. Talk about anything you wanti think. i think im going to pass on this one. i gave you the good old oc talk. your damn turn, yall:
if you have any questions about any of these guys feel free to shoot one at me!
thats all from me im tired and its one am. techskylander you absolute madman

Not Your (soul)Mate {6/?}
Tumblr media
Killian Jones doesn’t like the idea of soulmates. He sees how happy his friends are with theirs, but he still doesn’t like the idea, not when he’s found love and lost it time and time again only to still not know his sign. He has no markings on his skin, no voices in his head, but then one day he meets Emma Swan and everything changes. Because, well, he may not have ink on his skin to tell him who to love, but the very first time that he hears Emma’s voice he knows that she’s the one for him.
Then again, that could simply be his desire talking. After all, for every word she speaks, he becomes aroused. It’s not the worst thing in the world to be incredibly attracted to a beautiful woman, but things aren’t that simple when she doesn’t have any interest in being his soulmate.
He’s screwed. And not in the good way.

“How do you eat like that?” Ariel asks as they sit in their regular booth at Granny’s, Emma taking a large bite out of her grilled cheese sandwich. Granny must have just taken it off the stove because it’s hot enough to burn the roof of her mouth, but this is the best way to eat it.
Sometimes food takes a little risk.
“Eat like what?” she mumbles, adjusting herself on the old, cracked vinyl seat. She loves this place. She really does, but Granny should think about brightening it up and getting rid of the creepy woodland wallpaper and recovering these booths in another material that’s not falling apart. As long as she doesn’t stop selling this food, though, Emma doesn’t care too much. If she changed her recipes or something, that would be a totally different story.
“Unhealthy. You are so tiny, and yet we come in here several times a week for you to fill your stomach with grease.”
“It’s good. You should try it sometime.”
“I don’t want to balloon up,” Ariel sighs, cutting into the chicken in her salad with a particularly unpleasant scowl on her lips.
“You’re eating for two,” she points out, taking a sip of her water and motioning to the slight swell of Ariel’s stomach that seems to be getting bigger every time Emma sees her. “That’s pretty much the perfect excuse to eat junk food.”
“You’re actually not supposed to do that. Really, you can eat about three hundred more calories a day, but it’s all supposed to be healthy things with vitamins and nutrients so that the baby stays healthy. Plus, the less weight you gain, the easier it is to work off after you’ve given birth.”
Her heart stings for a minute, and it has absolutely nothing to do with her unhealthy eating habits. Shaking it off, she shrugs her shoulders and tears off a piece of her sandwich. “I get that. I’m just saying, if you want to share my basket of onion rings, the offer is always on the table.”
“Literally.”
The bell on the door of the diner rings, a little chime that always echoes around in her head afterwards, and she glances toward the door where she sees both Jones brothers walk in, Liam coming in first and Killian following right behind him adjusting the sleeves to his light blue dress shirt that’s tucked into well-fitting navy pants. She has no idea how Ariel works with him every day when he looks like that.
Her mind has got to stop going there when she thinks of him.
Plus, Ariel’s married, but that doesn’t mean she can’t appreciate someone else. Eric and Killian kind of look alike, so honestly, Ariel likely has a type. She thinks that Ariel looks at him kind of like a brother, though. They’ve never talked about him much. They usually try to stay away from talking about work. She’s not really sure how that started, but she appreciates being able to talk about stupid things like a funny joke she found online or a movie that she just watched on Netflix.
Or a good book.
A lot of her friendships here in town kind of start from a book if she’s honest with herself. As a kid, a lot of her foster homes didn’t allow her to watch television past a certain hour, and when she could watch, the older kids usually controlled the television, keeping it all to themselves so that they were watching shows she never really understood. She needed some kind of entertainment, some kind of story that would take her out of the reality of her real life and the loneliness she felt so that she could feel something happier. So that she could be happier.
And then one day someone came to talk to her third grade class about how library cards were free, and as long as she turned her books in on time and took good care of them, she could read whatever she wanted.
The first book she picked up was Nancy Drew and The Secret of the Old Clock.
And then she read every single book in the rest of the series. Even when she moved to a new house and had to go to a different library, the first thing she checked was to make sure that they had the Nancy Drew books on their shelves. They were here safe haven in times when she didn’t feel safe or loved, and she was able to get lost in the words and the stories and maybe pretend that she was Nancy or one of her friends for a little while.
It’s funny because, strangely enough, reading about a female detective, even if she wasn’t a real one, kind of put the idea in Emma’s head for her to be a detective herself. Well, Neal did as well, but she doesn’t like to give him credit for anything. He doesn’t deserve it.
Books have kind of been her life, though, even if she doesn’t admit that to everyone (people get weirdly judgmental about things like that and act as if they’re superior because they don’t read - what a load of shit that is), and when she moved to Storybrooke seven years ago as a fresh graduate from the police academy and with a freshly broken heart that she wasn’t entirely sure was still functioning properly, the first place she went after putting her things in the crappy loft she was renting was the library.
Belle greeted her from behind the desk, and despite the fact that the last thing that she wanted was to talk to someone with such a cheery face, she did. It was mostly about books at first. That was the safe option. Of course she’d had to muddle through that she was new in town and that she had moved because she was hired as a police officer (mostly true), but Belle didn’t seem to pry. She minded her own business and let Emma do the same.
It’s likely why they’re friends and roommates. Though, Belle does pry a bit more now, but that’s because Emma has allowed her to. Belle knows almost all of Emma’s dirty little secrets, the words slowly spilling off her tongue over the years - mostly with the help of a little wine if she’s honest - and it’s nice having someone know her like that even if it does make her feel vulnerable, even if Belle knows why Emma reacts to certain things in the ways that she does.
Ariel knows things too. Not as much, but Ariel is still one of her best friends. That’s thanks to Belle too. Really, all of her social life is thanks to Belle. She introduced Emma to Ariel one day when they were getting lunch, and after Ariel came Mary Margaret, even if she already knew her because of David. Finally, wrapping it all together were Ruby and Elsa, and suddenly Emma had all of these friends that she had no idea how to deal with.
Little by little, she’s kind of figured it out, even if she’s told that she can be a bit prickly. Personally, she thinks it’s all part of her charm.
Her eyes discreetly follow Killian as he moves further into the building, and she watches as he reaches up to push his hair back, the loose strands moving to the top of his head before falling back at his forehead again. It’s unfair how men’s hair just kind of looks good like that without too much effort.
It’s unfair that Killian looks how he does.
It’s kind of all she’s focused on ever since they all went sailing (Is that the right term since it wasn’t a sailboat? Or is it supposed to be boating? That doesn’t really sound right either, but it doesn’t matter enough for her to care too much) on Saturday. It had been a nice day even if she was a little apprehensive of it. If she’s honest with herself, about half of her reason for going was to mess with Killian. Running into he and Liam on the beach had been a bit of luck, whether that’s bad or good still to be decided, and while she really did jump at the opportunity to be able to get to go spend a day out on the water at absolutely no cost to her, she also likes bothering Killian.
It’s fun, and it keeps things light hearted between them when there’s always this omnipresent heavy weight between them that makes every interaction have this extra little meaning to it.
And maybe it’s her way of deflecting that and deflecting the fact that she doesn’t hate Killian. He can’t help that this is the way their lives have rolled out any more than she can. She’s still scared and confused and angry over the whole thing (she’d like to give the universe a big middle finger), but it’s not as if she’s falling in love with Killian. They’re not dating. They’re barely even friends, and she’s not putting herself into a situation where she can be left heartbroken again.
But then there had been a...moment in the water with she and Killian.
All day they’d been teasing each other, and she knows that she was far worse than him at doing it. She was probably pretty mean about it, and if he hadn’t decided to mess with her right back, the guilt in her gut would make her feel the need to apologize.
She’s not heartless despite what some people think.
Saturday was definitely different. Whatever this thing is that affects them, well, it’s still strong, but it’s not nearly as bad as it was when they first met at Ariel’s pregnancy announcement party two months ago. On that day she’d barely been able to control herself after they talked for the first time. Like, she had been ready to jump his bones (what a weird way to say she wants to sleep with someone) on the floor - or the wall - of the hallway right then and there with him only saying a few words that should not have turned her on. She has never felt that on edge in her life, even when she’s seconds away from an orgasm, and it had been overwhelming to say the least.
It was still overwhelming on Saturday, but it was less so. Every word he said didn’t send a tingle down her spine and make heat curl between her legs. Sure, if he talked enough it did, but it wasn’t as intense. She was still ready to jump his bones (she’s just going to go with it, though fuck like bunnies could also work...or jump Jones’s bones...that rhymes) several times through the day, but she could control herself without too much pain...most of the time. There were still times where it sucked.
And it definitely doesn’t help that Killian’s an attractive guy, and now that she’s seen him shirtless, has seen the toned muscles under the dusting of dark chest hair that leads down to a particular piece of anatomy that she got a brief glimpse of on the day they met (say hello to his little - big - friend), she’s got that image to go along with all of the dirty thoughts that her mind comes up with whenever she hears him talk.
Which is happening right now as he orders food at the counter.
Damn sensitive hearing.
Damn Killian Jones.
“Your bosses are here,” she tells Ariel as she takes another bite of an onion ring, sliding the checkered basket to the middle of the table so that Ariel can eat some if she wants to.
She’s definitely going to take at least one.
“Really?” Ariel twists in the booth and looks over at the counter. “Huh, I didn’t know they were coming in here today. Liam usually meets Elsa at her office for lunch, and Killian almost always eats in the office.”
“Alone?”
“Sometimes. I eat with him on some days, but he likes the alone time.”
She hums, understanding that as she attempts to focus all of her attention on Ariel, not really wanting to question too much about Killian despite her curiosities. Ariel is pretty much the one friend she has left who is also good friends with Killian and hasn’t tried to set her up with Killian, and she’d like to keep it that way.
It’s pretty much inevitable.
“So, you still not gonna tell me if baby Fisher is a boy or a girl?”
“Nope. Eric and I aren’t finding out. We want it to be a surprise.”
“You’re not at all curious?”
“Of course I am,” Ariel smiles, reaching over to the center of the table and plucking up an onion ring. Ha, Emma knew she would take one. Why is she so proud of that? “I personally feel like I’m going to crack in a month or so and call Dr. Whale to tell me so that I can start thinking of names and knowing which of Eric’s to rule out.”
They have really got to have another regular gynecologist in town besides Victor Whale. She drives thirty minutes to Beddington to see someone who she has not heard sex stories about from Ruby.
Seriously. It’s weird to know that someone’s dick curves slightly to the left when he’s looking in her vagina to make sure everything is still working down there.
“Oh yeah. Does he have bad names picked out?”
“The worst. Coral Fisher. It’s like he wants our kid to get made fun of for her name being nautical.”
“That’s pretty bad.”
“Finley Fisher is another weird nautical one, but it’s not as bad. It’s kind of cute, but I don’t think it really works with our last names.”
“Has he got any for boys?”
“Nope, not really. He’s pretty convinced that it’s a girl.”
“You know, Killian Fisher sounds like a great name.”
She shakes her head as a shiver runs through her, gooseflesh rising on her arms that she tells herself is from the air conditioning in here but knows that it’s not. Damn it. She thought it was getting better.
Fuck him.
Not literally.
“The only way there’s ever going to be anyone named Killian Fisher is if we get married, and you change your last name.”
“I’d do it,” Killian chuckles, reaching up to scratch behind his ear while she notices the way he’s got his dress shirt unbuttoned one button too far, the chain around his neck falling against the dark dusting of hair. The man likes his chest hair. She doesn’t blame him. Or maybe he doesn’t want to get sweaty. It is sweltering out here. Nah, he’s the type of guy to show off his chest. He’s got this...swagger about him. Is that a thing people still say? Swagger? “Tell Eric that you’re divorcing him, and we’ll be good to go.”
She squirms a bit in the booth, crossing her legs over each other so that her knee bumps the table, shaking all of the contents, with her glass of water spilling over and onto her lap.
Of course.
Of course this is how her day is going to go.
“Are you serious?” she groans, picking the glass up before she wipes some of the water on her jeans off, most of the liquid already settling itself in the denim and in her skin.
“This seems to be a problem for you a lot, lass,” Killian teases, smiling down at her as his right brow raises on his forehead, lines forming on his skin. He likes that move a lot.
“Well, the last time it wasn’t my fault, so I’d say that this one isn’t either.”
She watches his jaw tick before he composes himself. “We’ll call it even.”
“What are you two talking about?” Ariel questions.
“Nothing,” they both answer before she continues, “I’m going to go get some napkins and dry myself off, okay A? Ruby is going to be so pissed that she has to clean up under this table.”
“Probably. I’d watch your back.”
She slides out of the booth, her jeans clinging to her skin, and brushes past Killian to go to the counter and grab several napkins out of the dispenser, propping her leg up on an empty barstool and wiping herself down while she murmurs to herself about how much today sucks even though she realistically knows that it does not.
“Nice socks.”
“Shit,” she gasps, jumping a bit and turning her head to look at Killian. When in the world did he follow her over here? Why in the world did he? “Why are you over here?”
“Getting napkins to clean up your mess at the table.” He very pointedly pulls a napkin from her stack, waving it in her face. “Figured I could help while you pulled yourself together, but then I was distracted by your socks and the fact that they are two drastically different colors.”
She wants to whimper because every word he’s saying is driving her into madness. She thought it was getting better and that maybe this whole thing would die down. She really did think that maybe, just maybe, this wasn’t her soulmate sign.
That’s what she wants, right?
There’s too much going on for her to have think about this. She’s still got to go back to work and meet with Marco to discuss the break in at his furniture store. Someone apparently stole several end tables, and she can’t at all understand why they stole those when he has expensive couches and beds in there. Maybe the end tables were less conspicuous? She really doesn’t know, but she does know that it’s going to take her all day.
And she really needs some relief  right now.
“Can you please stop talking?”
She knows that it’s the wrong thing to say when the right side of Killian’s lip curls up, and he leans a little closer to her, warmth radiating off of him. “Why, darling, do you simply find my voice so irresistible that if I keep talking you’ll have to have me right here on the counter of Granny’s.”
“That’d be hot, but it’s against health code violations,” Ruby mumbles from behind the countertop, handing Emma the roll of paper towels that she kind of wants to bury her face in right now from how flustered she is. “I learned that one the hard way.”
“I always knew you were a feisty one, lass,” Killian jokes, winking at Ruby, and that only makes her more agitated as she furiously wipes at her jeans, figuring that she’s going to be stuck all riled up with wet pants on for the rest of the day with absolutely nothing that she can do about it.
Well, unless she wants to mortify David and walk around in just her underwear.
She kind of wants to mortify David.
She really shouldn’t.
Mostly right now she’s torn between asking Ruby if there’s a room upstairs for she and Killian to have sex in and throwing her arm in the air so that her fist collides with Killian’s face.
Of course, she could do both, but she is not going to sleep with him simply because the universe is so insistent on the two of them getting laid.
Best (not) laid plans and all that.
She needs another cup of coffee because she has lost it and caffeine cures all things, right?
Maybe it’ll kill the murderous urges she’s having right now. She should definitely not be having any of this.
Huffing, she takes the paper towel roll and walks back to the booth, needing to clean up the spill and get away from Killian as he flirts with Ruby. She can still hear him, will not be able to get his voice out of her head until they’re in separate buildings, but instead of murdering him (she is supposed to uphold the law after all), she focuses all of her rage at drying down the table and the seat.
“You okay?” Ariel asks.
“I’m fine.”
“Fine never means fine.”
“It does this time, okay? I’m fine. I’m just dandy. Perfect. I’ve never been better.”
“Then maybe don’t rip a hole in Granny’s seat,” Ariel soothes, reaching over to grab onto her hand. “It’s just a little spilled water. It’s really no big deal.”
She sighs, unable to think of anything else before she plops down on the seat again, not caring that it’s still a little damp. Her food is probably lukewarm by now, but she still wants to finish off her onion rings at least, trying not to stew in her anger, irritation, and the goddamn desire that is still driving her crazy and making her feel like she’s actually on fire, the spilled water doing nothing to drown it out.
She really hopes that Ruby doesn’t say anything about she and Killian flirting with each other. She doesn’t really think she was flirting, but that’s totally what it was. And maybe, just maybe, Ruby will be too busy flirting with Killian herself to remember to tell all of their friends what she overheard them talking about.
Boy does she hope so.
For the last ten minutes of her lunch break she finishes eating her barely warm food and orders a coffee to go. She’s exhausted, and she needs some kind of pick me up to make this better. She needs coffee. When Ruby brings her cup to her, it’s wrapped in a white paper napkin, the protective holder keeping it in place.
“Tall, dark, and handsome told me to tell you that it was on him.”
“Did he poison it?”
“No,” Ruby laughs, looking at her and then at Ariel’s empty seat that she vacated to run to the bathroom before they head back to their offices, “he did not poison it because he’s not trying to kill you. I’m actually pretty sure that you intrigue him, which is a feat in and of itself for the eternal bachelor.”
“You intrigue him as well.”
“I intrigue everyone, my sweet Emma,” Ruby sighs before patting her on the shoulder and walking away so that Emma is left with her thoughts and her coffee.
And this napkin that she’s sure Killian left for her as some kind of passive aggressive taunt for spilling her drink when really he doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
In case you spill your coffee.
PS: Do you match your underwear as well as you match your socks? They do sell undergarments in matching pairs, you know? I could recommend a few places.
Your secret admirer.
Cheeky bastard.

My Weekend At Once Con (Part 1)
...All I can say is wow. ...Just WOW. I'm sitting at my desk at work, just trying to figure out how the hell I'm supposed to go back to normal after this weekend. I'm equally parts at peace, freaking out, and so tired that I'm ready to crash and burn. And I'll tell you all why. ()()()()()()()()()()()()() About Me ()()()()()()()()()()()()() Before I start, I feel like to really understand my feelings about this con, you need to know a little bit about me first. That said, I'll make it fast because I know that's not what you're here for. 1. I'm the weirdest mix of introvert and extrovert that you can imagine. I want to talk to everyone, but at the same time, I'm so freaked out by it, but at the same time, I'll actually do it and jump in. 2. I'm what I call an omnishipper. If it's not incestual, I ship it at least a little. That said, I don't love all ships equally. I play favorites, and can even rank them per character. For example, I like Swan Queen, but I like Captain Swan and Dragon Queen a lot more. I like Violet Believer, but I like Henriella more. You get the drift. 3. I'm pretty positive about the show, and unless it's coming from a place of love, I hate saltiness, towards the writers, towards the characters, etc. I have likes, dislikes, and concerns of course, but there’s a line that I just don’t care to cross where it stops being fun, 4. I say I'm sorry way too much. 5. I recorded hours and hours of audio and video footage. It is all pretty flawed, but I promise, it's real. 6. Now, I'm going to reference questions, but I'm going to specifically focus on mine, since this is my con experience I'm reporting about. Look, I'm biased. It's human nature, and I'm literally writing this less than 24 hours after getting back. That said, if another question or comment really spoke to me, I'll do my best to include it here. Also, I'm doing my best to quote my questions from what I actually said, using the questions as I originally wrote them as well as my own memories, but I'm not trudging through my footage to get them. 7. Apart from Once, I've never really seen the special guests in other works. I saw Jen's play, The End of Longing back in May, but that was about it. This convention has convinced me to go forward and watch more of their works!
Okay, no more waiting! Here we go!!!
()()()()()()()()()()()()() Thursday ()()()()()()()()()()()()() I drove to the con on Thursday. I took a half day at work to finish packing and wait for my carpool buddy. We'd met on a Facebook page called "Once Upon a Time NJ Con," a Wall Street of sorts for the convention run by two lovely ladies. If you're looking to go next year, I can't stress enough just how good this page was. We arrived that evening for preregistration, and after my own adventures in the hotel down the road, I was all ready to get going. My roommate for the evening and I were on line, and already, there was so much excitement to be had. I met a beautiful young woman with crimson hair and a beautiful Swan Queen necklace who had Steven Universe buttons (A rare crossover of fandoms), and after we talked, I affectionately called her "Buttons" for the entire weekend. I entered the vendors room and took it all in. I immediately scoped out everything that I wanted, promising myself that I wouldn't spend too much money. ...You'll see how that ended up later. Thinking quickly, I immediately bought a Captain Swan shirt. There was a mug that looked like Henry's book that I promised myself I would buy on Sundays, but that was it. Don't get me wrong: I WANTED other stuff. The artwork table looked so nice, but I was sure I'd be selling my life savings for it (Something I was proven wrong about on the car ride home). Also, there was a big model of Emma's bug also available for purchase, but for like $50. It's funny because I was actually about to give my model of the bug (which was about 1/10 of the size of the one available here) to a Tumblr friend who I had grown really close to over the course of six months. Really, there wasn't much to say after that. Once my roommate and I had our fill of the Vendor's Room, we headed back to our room, chilled out, and then went to sleep, eager for the con to truly begin. ()()()()()()()()()()()()() Friday ()()()()()()()()()()()()() I've always been an early bird. That wasn't going to be an exception here. My first event wasn't until noon, but I was up at seven, and out the door by eight-thirty. My roommate, or at this point, ex-roommate, and I parted ways, but promised to meet up during the con. Thankfully, this is one of those stories where that actually happens. She and I at times were each others greatest forces of support and friendship in what was already a really friendly convention. We get there, and bond with a couple of people. Eventually, I ran into my carpool buddy and her friend. We killed time talking, reading books, and examining cosplays. Michael Coleman (Happy) and Chris Gauthier (Smee) passed by the lobby a few times, and I actually said hi to them, one time each. I was totally freaked out, but still, it was fantastic! Eventually, the theatre did open up, I parted ways from my friends, and went to my seat. I gotta say, knowing no one (for the moment, at least), it felt really lonely to be waiting for seatmates. Thankfully, a young teenager who had a GA ticket came by and provided a fun amount of conversation! Creation's house band Samurai Fish, accompanying Michael Coleman and eventually Gil McKinney (Eric) opened up the show. I never expected to like classic rock versions of my favorite Disney songs, but they were a lot of fun. XD Gil McKinney's panel, which I thought would originally set the stage for the rest of them, ended up, while doing it to some extent, being its own separate beast entirely, but in the best way possible. I compare it more to a stand up comedy routine than a proper panel. Gil walked around the room, commenting on guests, guessing kid's ages, losing a $20 bet that he would remember a guest's name, and even Face Timing with one of the guest's friends. I was blown away by how charming he is. There was a bit of a Q&A, but it only took up about the last five minutes of his panel. Fortunately for us con-goers, Gil would show up to a LOT more events and do a full-on Q&A the next day with Lee, Chris, and Michael. After Gil came Chris Gauthier. Let me tell you, I was hyped. I had been preparing questions for NJ con for six months now, but from the second I saw his name on the guest list, I knew what I wanted to ask. Chris' panel was more of a traditional panel with one big twist: Instead of going up to the mic, Michael, dressed as the Evil Queen (Heels included!), was going around with the mic to bring it to guests for their questions. This added a fun level of quirkiness to Chris' panel that I and the other guests really appreciated. Ready for my question? Well, at first, I wasn't. Believe it or not, I was terrified at first. But, I told myself that I wanted this and that I could do it. Michael eventually took a seat in the row in front of me, extended the mic to me, and I started to speak. "The last time Smee and Killian interacted in the present timeline, it was before Smee got his memory back and remembered that Killian sold the Jolly Roger and left his crew to go save Emma. What do you think that Smee and the rest of the crew think of their former captain now? Are they happy for his redemption or are they bitter at him for their abandonment?" Chris' response (To quote the man himself, "A little of both," and was followed by a more thorough explanation of why he thought so) was detailed, charismatic, and spoke of how much thought he puts into his character. By the end of it, I really wanted to see Smee on screen again! After Chris' panel ended, we next went into a Trivia Game. I actually participated in the last set of 30 contestants and made it to the top 15! Not half bad, especially because the question was from "Tallahassee" and Season 2 has always been my weakest season. I actually talked to two of the three winners after the contest, and both were scrambling to use their $200 winnings! XD The panels resumed at three sharp with Michael! Sadly, he was not wearing a costume, but what he lacked in that regard, he more than made up for with a bright and cheeky personality. I actually asked him, while something I never explicitly wrote out, about how he came up with the idea for the "Happy Little" series that he has been putting on for the past few conventions. He explained his reasoning in three parts, but I'll just tell you my favorite: He likes wearing dresses! The final panel of the day was the one and only Raphael Sbarge (Archie). What I like about Raphael is how he answers his questions. I'll demonstrate what I mean by discussing my own. So, my question was "In the Once Upon a Time fandom, shipping to many is as natural as breathing. However, Archie was never brought into a romantic relationship over the course of the series, or at least hasn’t been up to this point. Do you have and ideas of a character who you would have liked for him to chirp off into the sunset with?" Rapahel's response? "Who do you think he should end up with?" Now, it is definitely flustering to be asked a question in response to your own question, but give the man credit, that is brilliant when it come to responses. It does a couple of things. First, it's kind of like having a conversation with him. Raphael gets to react to what you think. Second, it buys him more time to respond, which, for a celebrity being put on the spot, is pretty clever. Now, that was the end of the panels, but not the end of the day, not by far. First came autographs. I'm going to hold all of my thoughts on autographs until the end of this series of posts, but for now, I'll say this: They were LONG. Second came...Dani. So, I've been chatting with a friend on Tumblr for close to half a year now. I always admired her posts, and we actually bonded over convention preparations. And she was coming to Jersey Con for Friday night and all of Saturday! I swear, I was just as excited to meet her as any of the celebrities appearing here. After the autographs, I messaged her to meet me in the lobby, and she responded immediately that she was on her way. And for the first time ever, we met. Readers, it felt like a scene in a movie. As soon as I saw her, I knew her, she knew me, we rushed to each other,...and we hugged. Fiction itself is seldom as beautiful.  We went up to her room, talked about a million and one things, shared stories and pictures, and then... Part three!!! You may have forgotten in all the excitement, but there was a brand new episode of Once Upon a Time!!!! It is incredible watching a show you love with someone who is as big of a fan as you. The episode in and of itself was pretty great! So, the episode ended, and with a million and one thoughts and theories, Dani and I headed down to the final portion of the day: Karaoke! Karaoke was hosted by Michael, Chris, Karen David (Jasmine), Beverly Elliot (Granny), and Gil McKinney. In it, our talented stars sang and danced alongside the lucky people chosen to sing pop, Disney, and rock songs! I had entered for Shut Up and Dance With Me, but sadly I was not selected. That said, the person chosen was quite talented. Some numbers that stuck out to me were "These Boots Were Made for Walking," "Sweet Caroline," "I Want It That Way" (Which my friend performed in), the aforementioned "Shut Up and Dance with Me," and "How Far I'll Go." The energy of the crowd was really something to see. Us Oncers definitely know how to rock a house! I bid Dani adieu and left during the final number because at that point, I was dead tired, and of course, I knew that I'd have to be at my best for everything that was to happen tomorrow... Nice cliffhanger, right? Stay tuned for Part 2!

WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND October 11, 2019  - THE KING, GEMINI MAN, PARASITE and More!
Having barely recovered from this past weekend’s double whammy of New York Comic-Con and New York Film Festival, I’m starting to question whether I should continue doing this column… again. It’s a lot of work putting it together each week, and it’s really tough to balance this with my paying writing work.
It certainly doesn’t help matters that I never got around to finishing last week’s column, because I got too busy with other stuff, but this week, I haven’t seen any of the three wide releases for various reasons, so there might not be as much to write about. Since I’ve already reviews Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite for The Beat, I want to talk about another amazing film getting a limited theatrical release.
Tumblr media
That movie is David Michôd’s THE KING, which Netflix is giving a limited theatrical release before its streaming debut on the service starting November 1.
Set in the 15th Century, the movie is loosely adapted on Shakespeare’s King Henry IV and Henry V but it’s handled in a lot less stodgy way than other Shakespeare films like Michael Fassbender’s recent turn as Hamlet. Henry IV is played by Michôd regular Ben Mendelson, but Henry V is played by Timothée Chalamet who has zero interest in being king even after his father dies.  But the performance that really grabbed my attention was that of Joel Edgerton (who co-wrote the screenplay with Michôd) who I didn’t even recognize as the younger king’s trusty colleague Falstaff until about an hour into the movie. Robert Pattinson (who appeared in Michôd’s The Rover) plays a smaller but absolutely hilarious role that I won’t reveal, although it’s hard to forget it since it’s such a different character for Pattinson. Much of the film deals with how Henry handles becoming King of England, especially when he’s pushed to go to war with France. I don’t have a lot more to say about this movie is that it surpassed all my expectations, especially in the battle sequence in the last half of the movie which is on par with anything in Gladiator or Braveheart, but then there’s an equally terrific epilogue that really shows Chalamet to be at the top of his game. I also should mention the amazing turns by Sean Harris from Mission: Impossible  - Fallout, Lily Rose-Depp and Thomasin McKenzie as Henry’s sister.
This is just a great film that I hope people will make an effort to go see in theaters, even though Netflix really isn’t giving it as big a theatrical or awards push as some of their other movies. I know it’s playing at the Landmark 57thStreet in New York,  but that’s the only theater I could find.
That aside, the big movie of the weekend is Ang Lee’s GEMINI MAN (Paramount), starring Will Smith and Will Smith. You may already know the general premise that it involves an older hitman played by Smith being hunted by a younger Smith, or maybe it’s vice versa. I don’t know since I had to miss the New York press screening due to illness, but I’ll probably try to see this when it opens this weekend. I might even give it a look in 3D at 128 FS, as maybe the third time’s the charm in that format.
U.A. Releasing is attempting their second animated release of the year with THE ADDAMS FAMILY, which I’ll be seeing on Wednesday night and reviewing over at The Beat. It has a pretty amazing voice cast, and I’ve been a fan of the comic strips and TV show, enough to hope that the filmmakers behind Sausage Party can do it justice and still be funny with a PG rating.
I’m a little bit dubious of CBS Films’ JEXI, starring Adam Devine, since the studio decided not to screen in advance for critics, and that’s VERY rare for a populist comedy like this one, which basically has Devine falling for his Siri-like smartphone assistant, or maybe it’s vice versa. If I can find the time, I might check this out, but I don’t expect it to do very well with so little advance promotion.
You can read more about these wide releases and how they might fare over at my weekly Box Office Preview at The Beat.
LIMITED RELEASES
Tumblr media
I’ve already reviewed Bong Joon-ho’s new film PARASITE (NEON) over at The Beat, but it’s an intriguing enough film that I certainly could talk more about it.  It’s an interesting look at the Korean class system through the interactions between a family living in poverty and the rich family they dupe into letting into their homes. The movie looks incredible and Bong’s cast is top-notch in creating a dark comedy dealing with rather serious issues, and honestly, you should go to see it without knowing too much about it, so that’s all I’ll say.  Interestingly, the movie has already sold out about seven preview screenings on Thursday night and a few more Friday at the IFC Centerwhere Director Bong and a few of his stars will be doing QnAs after the shows.
I had been tracking Michael Goy’s MARY (RLJE Films) for some time, mainly because it has an impressive cast including Gary Oldman and Emily Mortimer, but also it mostly takes place on a haunted boat, and I’m generally a fan of boating. Mary is actually the boat’s name, one that’s spotted by Oldman’s working class captain David who wants to make a better life for his family, something he thinks the boat can help with. Once David and his family are out at seas, they begin to turn on one another and lose their sanity as the boat drifts off-course.
Opening in New York and L.A. on Wednesday is Eric Notarnicola’s Mister America (Magnolia), and if you’re in New York, you can try to get tickets for the Metrograph where Notarnicola will be appearing with stars Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington aka “Neil Hamburger” for three shows tonight! It’s a faux political documentary following Heidecker on his campaign to depose the incumbent San Berarndino D.A. who tried him for selling e-cigs at an EDM festival, killing many. If this is even remotely as weird as the last few films I’ve seen with Heidecker and Turkington, it’s probably best that I haven’t seen this, and probably won’t, although the premise sounds intriguing.
There are some interesting docs this weekend including Fantastic Fungi, directed by time-lapse photographer Louie Schwartzberg (Wings of Life and the 3D IMAX film Mysteries of the Unseen Worlds) and “written” by Mark Monroe, who has been involved with some great docs including this year’sThe Biggest Little Farm. As you can tell from the title, this one explores the ground beneath our feet and how the fungi kingdom offers ways to heal and save our planet. It’s opening at New York’s Village East Cinemason Friday and in other theatersdown the road. Oh yeah, it’s also narrated by Brie Larson.
Also opening at the QuadFriday is Robin McKenna’s documentary  Gift (Matson Films), based on Lewis Hyde’s “The Gift: Creativity and the Artist in the Modern World,” exploring the relationship between art and the “gift economy.”
Opening at the Cinema Village Friday is Killing Zoe writer Roger Avary’s new movie Lucky Day (Lionsgate), starring Luke Bracey, Nina Dobrev, Crispin Glover and Clifton Collins Jr. It’s about a paranoid safe-cracker and his family who have to face a psychotic hitman out for revenge. I’m guessing that Glover is playing the psycho.
As far as sequels, there’s Along Came the Devil 2 (Gravitas Ventures), the sequel to Jason and Heather DeVan’s Along Came the Devil, which I’m honestly not sure I saw. Laura Slade Wiggins plays Jordan who receives an unsettling voice mail and returns home to her estranged father (Bruce Davison) only to learn that a demonic force has attached itself to the town.
Lastly, there’s Broadway star Michael Damian’s High Strung Free Dance (Atlas Distribution), the sequel to his 2016 movie High Strung, which I’ve never seen. It follows Thomas Doherty’s young choreographer Zander Raines as he gives a break to a talented contemporary dancer (Juliet Doherty) and a pianist (Harry Jarvis) by putting them in his Broadway show “Free Dance,” that becomes more complicated by a love triangle between the three. It also stars Jane Seymour, who was also in the previous film.
LOCAL FESTIVALS
The New York Film Festival is finishing up this Friday with Edward Norton’s new ‘50s detective film MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN, which I quite liked and have also reviewed for The Beat. Also playing is Mati Diop’s Cannes prize-winning Atlantics, which will be on Netflix in November.
STREAMING AND CABLE
Tumblr media
Before I get to the regular Netflix releases, I do want to draw special attention to Abe Forythe’s LITTLE MONSTERS, which just received a one-night nationwide screening on Tuesday but will debut on Hulu this Friday. It’s a very witty zombie comedy set in Australia starring Alexander England (Alien: Covenant) as Dave, a slacker musician who develops a crush on his nephew’s beguiling kindergarten teacher Miss Caroline (played indelibly by Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o). When he finds out that the class is being taken on a field trip to a petting zoo, Dave volunteers as a chaperone, only for things to get complicated when they get there and a famed child entertainer called Teddy McGiggle (and played by Josh Gad) starts showing interest in Miss Caroline. Oh, yeah, and I also mentioned zombie, didn’t I? The class arrives at the park just as a zombie outbreak begins so Dave and Miss Caroline have to protect the kids.
I generally liked this movie, which I found quite witty and a much stronger zombie-comedy effort than something like last year’s Anna and the Apocalypse. I loved what Lupita does with her characterization in this and I even kind of liked Josh Gad, although he took his character a little too far at times. Either way, if you have Hulu-- as I now do -- this is a fun watch and you can do worse with your time.
Although Vince Gilligan’s EL CAMINO: A BREAKING BAD MOVIE with Aaron Paul reprising his role of Jesse Pinkman is streaming on Netflix starting Friday, it’s also getting a rather limited run in theaters for those who would prefer to see it that way. I personally haven’t seen it yet, but it’s supposed to be a direct continuation from that amazing final episode of Breaking Bad. A few places where you can see it live with other fans including the IFC Center and Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn. Also on Netflix Friday is the psychological thrillerFracturedfrom Brad Anderson, starring Sam Worthington – I wonder where he’d gotten – and Lily Rabe from American Horror Story. Worthington plays Ray, who is driving across country with his wife and daughter when they stop at a rest area where his daughter falls and breaks her arm. Once he gets her to the hospital, Ray passes out from exhaustion and when he wakes up, his wife and daughter are missing with absolutely no record of them having ever been there. I haven’t had a chance to see this but I’m always interested in what Brad Anderson is up to since I’m such a huge fan of his earlier movies like Session 9 and The Machinist.
REPERTORY
METROGRAPH (NYC):
Shirkers director Sandi Tan returns to the Metrograph to screen Leos Carax’s 1999 film Pola Xin 35mm on Saturday night, and the Metrograph continues its “NYC ’81” series this weekend with Andrew Bergman’s So Fine, a series of New York shorts from 1981, Peter Yates’ Eyewitness, Louis Malle’s My Dinner with Andreand more. This Saturday, Welcome To Metrograph: Reduxwill screen Martin Scorsese’s 1974 filmAlice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, starring Ellen Burstyn and Kristopher Kristopherson, which I believe was the inspiration for the TV sitcom “Alice” but I could be wrong. Late Nites at Metrograph  has the greatest movie in the series so far, John Carpenter’s Escape from New York, starring Kurt Russell, which is also a part of “NYC ’81.” Playtime: Family Matineeswill screen Miyazaki’s Oscar-nominated 2004 film Howl’s Moving Castle.
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE BROOKLYN(NYC)
There’s still a few tickets for tonight’s “Weird Wednesday” movie, Lucio Fulci’s The Devil’s Honey. Thursday night the Alamo is showing Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer from 2014 as his new movie Parasite opens (that one’s almost sold out as of this writing). Sunday afternoon, the Alamo is screening a 35mm print of the 1960’s Korean film The Housemaid, which inspired Parasite. Monday night (and already sold out) is a screening of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligariwith a live score (sorry!). Next week’s “Terror Tuesday” is Ti West’s House of the Devil, a fantastic chiller, and next week’s “Weird Wednesday” is the 1987 British film Born of Fire, presented by my good friend and filmmaker Ted Geoghegan.
THE NEW BEVERLY (L.A.):
The Dolemite series continues with a double feature of Dolemite is My Name with the Dolemite movie The Human Tornado (1976), then on Thursday night, the Eddie Murphy double features with Disco Godfather (1979). Wednesday’s horror movie is Robert Wise’s 1963 film The Haunting while Friday’s horror matinee is Hello Mary Lou: Pro Night I I(1987) Tarantino’s Death Proof is the Friday night midnight offering, while Dolemite Is My Namewill screen Saturday night at midnight. (Listen, the Eddie Murphy is not really repertory but it’s a great movie to see with an audience, so take advantage of this chance being given to you by the New Bev, and go see it!!!) This weekend’s “Kiddee Matinee” is Jules Bass’ Mad Monster Party? from 1967 and starring the one and only Boris Karloff. There’s also a Halloween Edition of “Cartoon Club” on Saturday AND Sunday, but they’re both sold out online. Monday afternoon, there’s a matinee of Wes Craven’s Scream (1996)
FILM FORUM (NYC):
I’m pretty excited about the Film Forum’s upcoming “Shitamachi” series starting next week, but in the meantime, the Forum will be screening a 50thanniversary 4k restoration of Yôji Yamada’s Tora-San, Our Loveable Tramp (It’s Tough Being a Man), which is part of a long-running series that I personally have never had a chance to see even though I’ve loved Yamada’s Edo-period samurai films from a few years back. This weekend’s “Film Forum Jr.” is A Boy Named Charlie Brown, and the Film Forum is also screening a 4k restoration of Bob Fosse’s Sweet Charity, both of them also from 1969 and celebrating their 50thanniversaaries.  Bill Forsyth’s Gregory’s Girl will end Thursday while the Yves St. Laurent doc Celebration will continue through next Tuesday. The “Shirley Clarke 100” will continue through the rest of the month but only her 1962 doc Robert Frost: A Lover’s Quarrel with the World screens this weekend on Saturday.
AERO  (LA):
Looks like a planned James Ivory double features for Thursday and Friday have been cancelled, but they’ll be showing the excellent doc Love, Antosha about the late Anton Yelchin in a double feature with Drake Doremus’ Like Crazy. Saturday begins a “Béla Tarr Revisited” series showing films by the popular Hungarian auteur with The Turin Horse (2011) on Saturday night and the new 4k restoration of Sátántángo on Sunday. Just FYI, the latter is 450 minutes or about 7 and a half hours long. There will be an intermission and an extended break but hopefully, you REALLY love Tarr’s work. (I don’t.) Tuesday’s free “Tuesdays with Lorre” screening is The Beast with Five Fingers from 1946.
MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE (NYC):
“See It Big! Ghost Stories” continues this weekend with Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice on Saturday and Ti West’s The Inkeepers on Sunday, both worthwhile movies to see on the big screen. MOMI is also starting a new series called “No Joke: Absurd Comedy as Political Reality” kicking off with a Weds. night screening of Mister America (see above) and then Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers on Saturday and “An Evening with the Yes Men” (political documentarians) on Sunday. On Sunday afternoon is the “Sesame Street Short Film Festival” screening a bunch of live action and animated shorts commissioned by the popular PBS show.
QUAD CINEMA (NYC):
Francis Ford Coppola’s restored and remastered Cotton Club Encore, which just premiered at the New York Film Festival a couple weeks back will get a theatrical run at the Quad, as will Serge Gainsbourg’s Je T’Aime Moi Non Plus(1976), starring Jane Birkin as a truck stop waitress who begins a friendship with Joe Dallesandro’s garbage truck driver, making his boyfriend (Hugues Quester) jealous.
IFC CENTER (NYC)
Not sure what’s going on with the IFC Center’s ongoing weekend rep series but George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road(2015) will screen just before midnight on Friday and Saturday, and then the Coens’ 1998 comedy The Big Lebowski will screen as part of Late Night Favorites: Summer 2019as will Satoshi Kon’s 2006 film Paprika.
EGYPTIAN THEATRE (LA):
The Egyptian is pretty busy this weekend with “German Currents 2019” i.e. not repertory, but on Saturday, they’ll show a “Retroformat” screening of the 1928 film The Spielerwith live accompaniment.
BAM CINEMATEK(NYC):
This Sunday’s “Beyond the Canon” is a double feature of Claudia Well’s Girlfriends (1978) with John Cassavetes’ Husbands (1970).
ROXY CINEMA (NYC)
Oddly, the Roxy is screening the 2015 horror movie Unfriended on Wednesday and then David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me(1992) on Thursday, but really you should go there to see Lulu Wang’s excellent The Farewell – my #1 movie of 2019 so far – if you haven’t seen it yet.
LANDMARK THEATRES NUART  (LA):
This Friday’s midnight movie is John Carpenter’s 1978 horror classic Halloween.
And great news... MOMA should be back next week!
Next week, Angelina Jolie returns as Maleficent, Mistress of Evil, but the movie I’m really looking forward to is Zombieland Double Tap.

Blake - i keep reading funny things or spot a hot guy or something n go to message you but realise i can’t. i rly made my life a lot less interesting huh!! becoming friends with you was probably the best experience for me of this game. i really hope that voting you out doesn’t change our relationship and we can still be friends and talk heaps, and watch horror movies, and be mean to people. HAHHAHA. i love you lots!!!
Tumblr media
Blake: You are such a great guy and an awesome player! From being the only two from Sima that stuck together at the first tribe swap, to getting back together on Thueban. You were a great ally and I was to have to cut ties.
Tim: Tim! You’re a really great guy and I still really loved the flag you made for the merged tribe challenge all on your phone, especially the beret and mustache :P Have fun at prom when the time comes and hopefully you found a nice tux!
Richie: You played hard right up to the end and I respect that! You played a great game. Keep dropping your Survivor/BBCan/BBUS knowledge and you’re bound to get a job on the spot! I guarantee it!! Haha Remember, you’re a survivor of grad school, no matter how long you were in it
Dani: You played an awesome game but I guess the odds just weren’t on your side in the end. I wish you the best of luck with your goal of getting on Survivor! :) I’m sure you’ll get on it, just got to keep on trying. I can’t wait to see you on my TV screen.
JG: We often kept our chats to game talk and I felt like we had a really good bond and shared a similar mindset in terms of threats and allies. I was sad to see you get voted out and wish we could have played together for longer. Keep on killing it at Overwatch for me and I’ll keep on killing on Mario Kart for you :)
Raffy: Raffy! You were definitely a character from the moment we interacted right until the very end. Causing tribe drama by forfeiting that challenge was something I’ll never forget. Good luck with the rest of high school and keep enjoying those video games.
AnnMarie: Look at you causing drama with a MedEvac! Haha I’m glad to hear that you were okay. Best of luck with school and make sure to take the time to destress once in a while. You honestly won me over when I saw that you chose Michaela as your picture haha
Andreas: I’m sorry to hear about the frustration you had during the early portion of the game. It was nice to connect with another non-american player! Hopefully your job search went well and your fun interview turned out for the best!!!
Elliot: You were so great! I’m glad we shared a lot of same opinions and it was always great to get my frustration out and screaming into the void with you when needed. You were somebody I saw myself aligning with before you got voted out and that tribal really sucked.
Bryan: We never got to chat much sadly simply because we were never on the same tribe, except for the One World twist. You’re obviously a huge presence in these games which is something to be respected. It would have been cool to play alongside you and learn a bit of your skills. Hopefully see you in the next one!
Akito: We never really talked much, and I blame my busy work schedule for that, but I remember suffering through the duolingo challenge with you from beginning to end. Talking about our progress and how much we didn’t want to do it anymore. Sorry for accidentally congratulating you for getting the highest score only to immediately realize I misread the results haha
Eric A: All the way back to the original Sima tribe. I had a great time shit talking about people who spell their name as Erik over the more superior Eric. But I’m sure we weren’t bias or anything haha We never went far together but I enjoyed the time we had early on in the game,
Matt J: I’m sad that I never actually met in the game. As a first time player myself, I was excited to chat with you. I hope your early elimination won’t stop you from playing again in the future!
Becca: It was sad to see you go home first :( I hope you had a good time throughout your time in the game and hopefully we’ll actually cross paths one of these days.

Blake- ohhhhhh my god. i love you so much and everyone knows who already really won this game (you) even without the actual title! can’t believe you were done like that and if you play other survivor games (or real survivor) you’re gonna win! Tim- we didn’t talk much but i really  like how you never gave up even when you had like 0 hope. Richie- we didn’t talk much like at all but you’re obviously vvv smart and was always on the top for challenges. Dani- you really were the queen of surviving tribal council and i fully respect your gameplay and you turned into the threat pretty quick! JG- we’ve had our differences but now i really appreciate and respect you!! so glad we got these chances to talk lol! i’ll be rooting for you your next game lol!
Raffy- it was nice talking to you for the short period we did. sorry it ended so shortly but threats can’t stay threats!!!
Annmarie- idk what to say like you flipped on me and after bryan was out you were basically nonexistent Andreas- so you voted for me and that’s completely cool i feel for your awful timezone situation and how you played even with the struggle!
Elliot- i don’t think we were ever on a tribe together but i heard enough about you from blake to feel like we were tbh Bryan- …… i mean the first time didn’t work but the second time was a charm?? Akito- idk you just really tried to throw me under the bus which is kind of an awful thing to do but look who’s here now taquito Eric A- ya know this was my first attempt at trying something and it didn’t work out agdbd but rip to you i really tried
Tumblr media
Blake: You are so cool, unfortunately you just were too good :-( hope to play with you again!
Tim: I really want to play with you again, you are a really good player
Richie: I wish you were still in the game! Unfortunately they targeted our alliance...

JG: I hope to play with you again! You are a really good player
Raffy: lol your name always autocorrects to Taffy, I hope to play with you again and you're really cool!
Andreas: I'm really sorry that you got voted out, it's a part of my game that I regret the most... Hope to play with you again :-)
Bryan: it's unfortunate that you had to get voted out, I really enjoyed playing with you!
Matt J: I'm sorry that we voted you out early, but you were going after me!
Becca: I wish you could have stayed longer... Good luck!
