Organic Fertilizer Market Growth Opportunities, Challenges And Forecast 2019-2027
Tumblr media
The Organic Fertilizer Market is experiencing a robust growth trajectory driven by increasing consumer demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices. As awareness about the harmful effects of chemical fertilizers on soil health and food safety grows, farmers and cultivators are shifting their focus towards organic alternatives. This shift presents significant growth opportunities and challenges for the market.
One of the primary growth opportunities in the Organic Fertilizer Market is the rising trend towards organic farming. Consumers are becoming more conscious of the food they consume, placing greater emphasis on products grown using natural and organic methods. This has led to an increased demand for organic produce, consequently driving the demand for organic fertilizers.
Farmers are now recognizing the long-term benefits of organic fertilizers, including improved soil structure, enhanced nutrient retention, and reduced environmental impact.  As a result, the market is witnessing a surge in research and development activities to innovate and produce effective organic fertilizer products.
Many countries are offering subsidies, incentives, and support programs to encourage farmers to adopt organic practices. These policies are contributing to the expansion of the market by incentivizing farmers to make the transition from conventional to organic fertilizers. As Per Latest Study Of Coherent Market Insights, the Organic Fertilizer Market is expected to have grown at a CAGR of 7.2%, bringing its value up to about $12.5 billion by end of the 2027. Government initiatives and regulations promoting sustainable agriculture are providing further impetus to the market.
However, alongside these opportunities, the Organic Fertilizer Market also faces several challenges. One of the main challenges is the higher cost of organic fertilizers compared to their chemical counterparts. Organic fertilizers are often more expensive to produce due to the complexities involved in sourcing, processing, and ensuring the quality of organic materials. This cost differential can deter some farmers from adopting organic fertilizers, especially those with limited financial resources.
Another challenge is ensuring consistent and standardized quality across organic fertilizer products. Unlike synthetic fertilizers that can be precisely formulated, organic fertilizers can vary in composition and nutrient content based on their natural sources. Ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of high-quality organic fertilizers can be challenging, as fluctuations in raw material availability and quality can impact product performance.
Additionally, educating farmers about the proper use and benefits of organic fertilizers is crucial for market growth. Many farmers have been accustomed to conventional farming practices and may require training and guidance to effectively integrate organic fertilizers into their routines. Bridging this knowledge gap is essential for maximizing the potential of the market.
Organic Farming - A sustainable agriculture approach avoiding synthetic chemicals, emphasizing natural techniques like composting and crop rotation.
The Organic Fertilizer Market is poised for significant growth due to the increasing demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices. While opportunities abound, challenges such as higher costs and quality standardization must be addressed to fully harness the potential of organic fertilizers. As the agricultural sector continues to prioritize sustainability and innovation, the market is likely to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of farming.

Mental Health Spotlight: Jasmine Marie, Founder of black girls breathing®
Jasmine Marie is a speaker, breathwork practitioner, and the founder of black girls breathing®. Her work is innovating the wellness, healthcare, and research industry by making mental health services accessible to Black women while filling in the gaps of data and research available on this underserved and underrepresented demographic. Marie plans to impact one million Black women and girls with her work by 2025. She is a serial founder with a past life in global haircare brand marketing and an alum of NYU Stern. The impact and range of her work to date is expansive—ranging from underserved minority communities to stressed-out college students and executives. She’s brought her expertise to elite colleges such as Harvard Business School, Columbia University, and Cornell University, and her client list includes corporations such as Estée Lauder Companies, Under Armour, Capital One, Ford Motor Company, Facebook, and Twitter. Marie has been featured in Oprah Magazine, Good Morning America, VOGUE, Forbes, Harper’s Baazar, Marie Claire, Glamour, Nylon Mag, Wall Street Journal, and Black Enterprise, to name a few.
What is black girls breathing®? And why was it created? black girls breathing® is a safe space for Black women to manage their mental and emotional health and heal trauma in their bodies with breathwork and community.
I created black girls breathing® after finishing my breathwork training and seeing so few facilitators that looked like me yet knowing how much chronic stress and trauma (generational, societal, etc.) and decided to create it. I used my background in business to help me develop a model where we could provide this work accessibly.
Do you have any secret hobbies, skills, or interests?
I don’t think I have any secret hobbies but for a while, I would always feel embarrassed whenever anyone asked that question, as a lot of my hobbies can maybe seem boring to others lol. But I love to read. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. I love having quiet time…any activity that allows me to feel refreshed, sit with my own thoughts and enjoy my solitude. I think because I deal with so many people’s energy that in my spare time, I just like to spend time with self. I love to cook though…it’s a very meditative activity for me that allows me to unwind from my day.
How did you get started in this work? And why is it important to you?
As mentioned above, after my breathwork training, I realized there were so few Black breathworkers. But before that, I found breathwork while being stressed out after graduating from business school at NYU and working in beauty in NYC. My nervous system was so fried I began having physical symptoms…rashes and an inability to sleep. The doctor would see me and always say, “This is stress. How can you reduce your stress?” Fast forward to me finding my first breathwork class and falling in love with the way it allowed me to just feel more space in my mind and body.
WOW — ONE MILLION Black women and girls breathing by 2025 what an ambitious goal! What impact do you see this having?
It is an ambitious goal, but in 2020, we fundraised $55k to make our work accessible for one year. After the year was done, it was so clear that we couldn’t stop there. So many Black women needed this work, and we would hear that over and over again. So I decided if I was going to do this work, I was only interested in creating real impact and a goal that would signify that. Imagining 1 Million Black women using breathwork as a tool to regulate their nervous systems, heal from compounded trauma and reduce the effect that chronic stress has in our community (health challenges linked to chronic stress: heart disease, high blood pressure, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, fertility issues, and the list goes on) will not only affect them but our community as a whole. Ending the passing down of generational trauma and normalizing healing.
What would you suggest to people who feel like they cannot find the time to breathe or practice mindfulness?
I would first affirm that it’s okay they feel that way. Western society has done a great job of making us feel that anything outside of productivity is not only a waste of time but the least important thing we should make space for. Making time for yourself for any mindful activity can be eased into and it can start with being more aware of the present moment and practicing that action on a daily. Maybe you create a routine where every morning for 3 minutes right when you get up, you take a moment to be still, notice your breathing pattern and focus on each and every inhale and exhale.
Why is Black representation important in this industry?
The wellness industry isn’t unlike other industries where Black representation is lacking. I think it’s important to see other Black women caring for themselves because, historically, we’ve been taught to do the opposite for oh so long.
Where do you find joy?
I find joy with my family and my loved ones, in intimate moments with friends, in good food and conversation, and in being able to create something and see it grow, shift, and evolve.

Farming
High-rolling lawyer James Christophers is a name partner in a prestigious firm, specializing in liability cases for pharmaceutical clients. He is known for his handsome, muscular appearance and confident attitude. Despite his tight schedule, which includes early morning workouts and back-to meetings-back, James enjoys the city and life his spends weekends at bars gay, always with a new boyfriend in town.
Tumblr media
Recently, James inherited a vast farm in the middle of nowhere in Northeast Ohio from his late uncle. As he was married to his mother's sister and childless, James is the sole heir. Although James flies to the farm in the company jet during weekends, he finds the intensity of combining the farm and his city life overwhelming.
Tumblr media
It is during one of these visits that he meets Jackson, his neighbors' 20-year-old son. Jackson, who prefers to be called Jackie, reveals that he is on the brink of losing his wrestling scholarship if he doesn't win his next match.
Tumblr media
In a surprising turn of events, James proposes a deal to Jackie. If Jackie loses the match, James will pay for his last year of tuition In return, Jackie agrees to work on the farm during his free time while attending school. Unfortunately, Jackie loses the match and immediately starts working on the farm. The initial weeks prove to be challenging as he tackles manual tasks such as harvesting and yard work, providing enough physical exercise to maintain his muscular physique. As the holidays approach and there is less work to do on the farm, Jackie realizes he has gained weight due to his continued wrestling diet.
Tumblr media
In the spring, James visits the farm and unveils his plan for a flourishing agricultural business. He introduces a new fertilizer for wheat and corn, promising faster growth and larger yields. Although it is not yet available on the market, James decides to conduct a trial season. The whole village becomes interested, and James offers to share the results after the next harvest.
Even though there is a lot of hard labour Jackie keeps eating like he did as a wrestler, during the summer, Jackie continues to gain weight, reaching a staggering 260 pounds.
Tumblr media
Also James sees his weight climbing. Despite the weight gain, the crops thrive, and James seizes the opportunity to sell his shares in the law firm and invest the money in expanding his farming business. The town becomes dependent on James for their seed supply, and he even keeps some wheat for the local bakery and corn for his own livestock.
Tumblr media
Eventually, Jackie graduates and secures a job at a real estate company out of state. This leaves James in need of a solution the to farm work. He finds Danny, the son of a local baker.
Tumblr media
Though Danny lacks ambition, he possesses a strong work ethic. Unfortunately, working alongside this young man becomes detrimental to James' fitness goals, as he gains weight due to the delicious goods from Danny's mom she prepares everyday for them.
Tumblr media
Desperate to lose weight, James spends two months at a fitness resort. Upon his return, he successfully sheds the excess fat and gains some muscle, resulting in a weight of 205 pounds.
Tumblr media
However, he quickly gains weight yet again after consuming too many pastries from the bakery, reaching 237 pounds. Concerned the about rapid weight gain, James reaches out to his previous clients for the trial reports, only to discover that the hormones in the seed additives cause an increase in appetite and muscle growth, as well as the faster storage of fat in humans and animals.
Tumblr media
Faced with this startling revelation, James contemplates his options. After studying the fine prints he realizes that he is legally protected and not liable for the consequences of the seed additives. Unsure whether to inform the baker or Danny's mother, James decides to continue with the next season, planning to visit a fitness resort as soon as the seeds are planted. However, amid the increasing demands of his growing business and the rapid weight gain of his animals, he struggles to find a solution for his own weight.
Frustrated, James strikes a deal with Danny. In exchange for not revealing James' secret of not eating, to his mother, he pays Danny a bit more. Danny agrees to eats both his and James’ food his mother baked. Weeks and months pass, and James remains unable to lose the weight. Without the motivation of his previous lifestyle, he is less concerned about his appearance.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Danny's newfound popularity because of his new size leads him to overeat even more from his mothers goods.
Tumblr media
After a year, Danny has gained an astonishing 220 pounds of pure fat, reveling in his newfound sense of power and masculinity. In town, he becomes popular among girls who appreciate his larger frame. However, the consequences of his actions, as well as his increasing weight, continue to unfold.

"Today, students, we are learning about--" The professor huffs, not merely because the size of his womb prevents his lungs from fully expanding, although it certainly made things ironic. "--The reproductive system." He looks out across the auditorium, the scores of students in attendance, and scattered throughout are the five responsible for his current condition. And each of them is wearing a smug expression. He tries not to give them any overdue attention; he already looked overdue as it was. His belly jutted out in front of him like an exercise ball, comparable in both sides and shape, though thankfully he was able to afford custom garments tailored to his... unique dimensions. It wasn't just his belly that was obscenely large; his entire body had changed to match, to support this incredible pregnancy. He wasn't slim to begin with, months and months ago when he took those five students on, but the rest of his curves were proportional to his belly. Thick and powerful thighs were needed to lug this boulder of a baby bump around; tremendous hips that made traditional doorways a challenge each and every time; and not to ignore the elephant in the room, his breasts had swollen to ludicrous proportions, each larger than a typical third-trimester belly. A great deal of his salary was now sacrificed to his wardrobe, in need of constant updates so to continue covering his flesh so not to risk indecently. Even so, the buttons of his vest--which could only hope to contain his breasts at this point--were straining mightily. He feared that they might pop if he moved too quickly or even breathed too deeply... which, as previously established, was a challenge. Mustering all the strength in his arms, he placed his hands underneath the base of his belly and with a great show of effort, hefted the gravid orb as best he could, before waddling over to his desk to give his aching legs a break. He really thought that he could stand for at least a minute before breaking, but that was getting harder every time... so hard in fact, that he didn't make it all the way to his chair before he had to plop his belly onto the desk for a quick breather. His ample chest heaved with every breath. "Apologies, I just need a second to catch my breath," he said into his microphone, then to try and lighten the mood, he cracked a joke at his own expense, "Who better to teach you this lesson today than an expert?" There was a low chuckle throughout the room that quickly died down, because really who could stomach watching a man struggling like this? He could name all five of them. He cursed under his breath, that day of weakness oh so many months ago, when he offered those same students--the lost performing in his class--a bump to their grades. And now he was the one sporting a bump. A ridiculously huge one. According to the last ultrasound, each of them had placed at least one fetus inside him, but he was much, much bigger than quints would suggest. He speculated they'd all taken fertility drugs ahead of time, something new and unknown to the market. Which made him a guinea pig. Wiping the sweat from his brow, instead of trying to lift his belly again, he merely pivoted around the desk before falling back in his seat, causing his whole belly to jostle. That upset the children, and he was immediately assaulted with a battery of angry kicks and punches, forceful enough to stretch his clothes. The professor, quite unintentionally, moaned directly into the microphone as the brood inside him protested their treatment. Some of the students shied away, cringing, turning to their phones to distract themselves from the vulgar sight... But five amid the crowd watched more keenly, practically on the edges of their seats, as they watched their children squirm inside the haughty professor--the professor they had given a master class to, on the finer points of human reproduction. Needless to say, they had enjoyed perfect grades for months~

You are invited to join for the first annual Weelaunee Food Autonomy Festival March 10-13. Together we will build our capacity in the forest by meeting each other, planting hundreds of fig, pawpaw, and persimmon saplings, grafting onto callery pears, and sharing in a variety of food autonomy workshops and discussions.
As we experience intensifying climate instability, economic disparity, and ecological destruction, our hands have been in the dirt, working to share food and growing techniques within the communities we inhabit. Across the continent, diverse collectives, farms, and mutual aid hubs have organized themselves, especially since 2020, and have been busy creating autonomous food systems, developing grassroots crop breeding, building food production and distribution systems for collective resilience and communal luxury—outside of the market or USDA management. These efforts at mutual aid and horizontal experimentation challenge state violence, racist dispossession, and the myth of scarcity.
At the same time, a movement in Atlanta enters a third year defending a 300 acre forest, which is threatened by construction of a police training facility (dubbed Cop City) and what would be the largest soundstage in the world, solidifying Atlanta as the new Hollywood. Those defending the forest from these dystopian projects are also creating a world outside of the market or state's control. Eggplants and fig trees sunbathe at the edge of the creek, a cold frame awaits spring germination, foragers commune with the undergrowth, and carpenters improvise structures on the ground and high in the canopy.
Restoring this forest, scarred with a history of indigenous dispossession and prison slave labor, is a complicated task. But we know autonomous food production can break the dirty cycle of land displacement and dependence on the capitalist food system. Moving in this way, towards food autonomy, is essential to the vitality of all life inhabiting the forest. We want to take this opportunity to share lessons and knowledge in all things plants, and learn from the ideas and work of others from all over, inside the fertile context of a forest occupation. Now is the perfect time to combine practical discussions of food autonomy with the movement work of defending the Atlanta forest, in what Cooperation Jackson calls a strategy of "building and fighting."

SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) — Hundreds of angry farmers took to the streets in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, on Monday to complain of what they called “the total failure” of the government to meet the mounting challenges of the agricultural sector.
They called on Agriculture Minister Kiril Vatev to step down for not keeping his promises to ease the administrative burden on the farming sector, to seek state compensation for high costs and falling incomes.
Like their colleagues elsewhere in Europe, Bulgarian farmers are frustrated with domineering European Union regulations, the hardships stemming from the surge in fertilizer and energy costs because of Russia’s war in Ukraine, the increasing imports of farm products that are flooding local markets and the undercutting of prices.
Ventsislav Varbanov, who chairs the Association of Agricultural Producers, complained that the government is adding more undue burdens, instead of seeking some relief for the farmers.
“Let me remind you that our interests were not protected neither as the Ukrainian goods flooded us," he said, referring to cheaper products exported from Ukraine, "nor had we budget guarantees for the losses we suffered because of the war in Ukraine.”
Varbanov pleaded for a long-term government policy: “We want to know what will be in tomorrow, in the next year, in the next five years.”
Meanwhile, the grain producers’ association announced that its members might join the protests on Tuesday by blocking main roads with their farming vehicles.
The association expressed discontent with a statement made by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov in response to their demands for compensation that only grain producers who can prove a loss for 2023 will receive financial support. The association wants some form of compensation for all grain producers.

On February 16, the Alabama Supreme Court held that frozen embryos were “children” under Alabama’s Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. While this was a decision about in vitro fertilization (IVF), Alabama’s recognition of embryos as persons is simply a logical extension of the anti-abortion movement’s long-time commitment to the notion of fetal personhood, an idea now animating the post-Dobbs criminalization of reproductive care. A number of state legislatures have already granted personhood status to fertilized eggs or unborn children in utero at any stage of development.
Consistent with the anti-abortion movement’s goal of a nationwide recognition of fetal personhood, the criminalization of abortion is a tool for preventing abortions from ever occurring. In our new article, Bodies of Evidence: The Criminalization of Abortion and Surveillance of Women in a Post-Dobbs World, we explore: how ban states are criminalizing abortion; the way medication abortion is disrupting abortion bans; the threat of prosecution faced by women who self-manage abortions with medication; and the ways modern surveillance technologies enable law enforcement investigations of abortion crimes.
The criminalization of abortion is one of several strategies endorsed by the anti-abortion movement and adopted in states attempting to enforce abortion bans and defend them against circumvention by medication abortion.
Medication abortion, a two-pill regimen involving mifepristone and misoprostol, is approved by the FDA for terminating a pregnancy up to 10 weeks. While the FDA approved the use of mifepristone in 2000, the revolutionary promise of medication abortion—where a woman can receive the medication in the mail, then safely self-manage an abortion in the privacy of her own home—was not realized until the FDA permanently lifted the in-person dispensing requirement in 2021. Not surprisingly, research from the Guttmacher Institute indicates that medication abortion now accounts for 63% of abortions in the United States, up from 53% in 2020.
Because of medication abortion, pregnant people living in states that ban or severely restrict abortions have access to a form of abortion care that was not available pre-Roe. Today, pills can be moved across state lines, doctors in abortion-protective states can offer telehealth care to women in ban states, and organizations like Aid Access can mail abortion medication from overseas. It is no longer necessary for all women in ban states to travel out of state to access abortion care.
The anti-abortion movement is, of course, aware of the ways in which medication abortion can thwart abortion bans and is attacking the problem on a number of fronts. In one response to this threat, a group of anti-abortion doctors brought a lawsuit challenging both the FDA’s original approval of mifepristone in 2000 and subsequent actions in 2016 and 2021 to improve access to and availability of the drug. The goal of the lawsuit is to remove mifepristone from the U.S. market, a result that would drastically reduce access to medication abortion for all women in the United States, regardless of the state in which they live. The Fifth Circuit granted partial relief to the doctors, landing the case in front of the Supreme Court after the government’s petition for writ of certiorari was granted. The Court heard oral arguments on March 26.
While it is unwise to predict how the Court will rule on any case, a majority of justices during the oral argument seemed to express some skepticism that the doctors who brought the suit had the necessary legal standing to seek the requested relief. The Court could thus dispose of the case without ever reaching its merits.
Even if the challenge to the FDA’s treatment of mifepristone is unsuccessful, however, the case presented an opportunity for the plaintiffs to bring attention to another of the movement’s strategies—one that was raised on three separate occasions during the oral argument by Justices Alito and Thomas. This strategy concerns the Comstock Act, a federal obscenity law from 1873, virtually dormant but still on the books, that criminalizes the mailing of “[e]very article, instrument, substance, drug, medicine, or thing which is advertised or described in a manner calculated to lead another to use or apply it for producing abortion.”
A literal interpretation of this law would, at a minimum, make the mailing of any kind of abortifacient unlawful, essentially resulting in a nationwide ban on medication abortion. While the Department of Justice under the Biden administration interprets the Comstock Act narrowly, the Justice Department under a Trump administration is free to reject that interpretation. To achieve a nationwide abortion ban, the anti-abortion movement doesn’t need Congress or even the courts—it only needs Donald Trump to be elected. And while Congress could certainly repeal the Comstock Act, that is not an outcome anyone should expect in the near future.
As the anti-abortion movement pursues these strategies, another more familiar tactic for preventing women from self-managing abortion with medication is also available: the prosecution of women and those that may assist them. Although providers have historically been the primary targets of abortion laws, women have been investigated and prosecuted for pregnancy-related conduct and a variety of pregnancy outcomes, even during the Roe era. And, in 2016, when candidate Donald Trump was asked whether he thought women who sought an illegal abortion should face criminal punishment, he answered in the affirmative—“there has to be some sort of punishment.”
Some state officials, politicians, and movement leaders claim that no one intends to prosecute pregnant women for abortion crimes. Others, emboldened by the demise of Roe, have suggested that criminal punishment of pregnant women who seek or obtain abortions is logical, morally justifiable, and required to end abortion.
As we explore in our article, a number of current states’ laws—including personhood laws—provide prosecutors with the tools to investigate and prosecute women who self-manage abortion using medication and those that assist them. The decision whether to do so will generally turn on a prosecutor’s interpretation of these laws, many of which do not explicitly exempt women from prosecution, and his or her exercise of prosecutorial discretion.
Georgia, for example, has passed a personhood law. Its “Living Infants Fairness and Equality” Act (LIFE Act) bans abortion after six weeks, a time at which most women don’t even know they are pregnant, and states that “[i]t shall be the policy of the state of Georgia to recognize unborn children as natural persons.” It defines “natural person” as “any human being, including an unborn child,” and defines “unborn child” as “a member of the species of Homo sapiens at any stage of development who is carried in the womb.” By including “unborn child” in the definition of natural person, the LIFE Act raises the possibility that a woman who obtains or self-manages an abortion after six weeks could be charged with murder.
In Georgia, a person commits murder “when he unlawfully and with malice aforethought, either express or implied, causes the death of another human being.” No exemptions from prosecution are provided in the LIFE Act. While our article identifies some ambiguity surrounding whether a woman having or self-managing an abortion could be prosecuted for murder under Georgia’s LIFE Act, Douglas County District Attorney Ryan Leonard previously indicated that women in Georgia “should prepare for the possibility that they could be criminally prosecuted for having an abortion. . . . If you look at it from a purely legal standpoint, if you take the life of another human being, it’s murder.” This prosecutor’s statement is an example of a threat of prosecution, where a public official purposefully wields fear and uncertainty to enforce an abortion ban.
Meanwhile, an April 1 ruling by the Florida Supreme Court enabled a six-week abortion ban to take effect by May 1, replacing the current law, which bans abortion after 15 weeks. In Florida, “[a]ny person who willfully performs, or actively participates in, a termination of pregnancy in violation” of the law before or during viability “commits a felony of the third degree, punishable” by a term of imprisonment not exceeding five years and fines. There is no exemption for pregnant women. The broad “any person” language subjects women who self-manage abortion through medication to the threat of investigation and prosecution.1 Recognizing this possibility, Florida legislators proposed H.B.111 in October 2023, a bill that explicitly exempts pregnant women from prosecution for terminating their pregnancies: “This paragraph does not apply to the pregnant woman who terminates the pregnancy.” The bill died in subcommittee in March of this year.
Florida’s six-week ban features the same broad language prohibiting “any person” from engaging in the proscribed conduct. Accordingly, women will continue to be at risk of investigation and prosecution under the new law. There were 84,052 abortions in Florida last year, an increase of 2,000 abortions from 2022. More than 7,000 of those women came to Florida from other states. With the imposition of the six-week ban, the use of medication abortion will undoubtedly spike. Women continue to have abortions even when they are illegal.
Georgia and Florida are just two examples of states with laws that subject women to the threat of prosecution for self-managing abortions. There are also a range of laws “related to fetal remains, child abuse, felony assault or assault of an unborn child, practicing medicine without a license, or homicide and murder” that don’t even mention or outlaw abortion, but which have been used to investigate and prosecute people for conduct related to the alleged termination of their own pregnancies, even while Roe was the law of the land.
In the post-Dobbs world, prosecutors who choose to investigate women for self-managing abortions have an array of modern surveillance technologies at their disposal. In our article, we present three hypothetical scenarios involving law enforcement investigations of a single mom, a college student, and a high school student based on alleged self-managed abortions. In each of the scenarios, we attempt to illustrate what is possible based on current law and technology. We are not suggesting that these exact scenarios have occurred or will occur. But aspects of these fact patterns are consistent with cases described in If/When/How’s 2023 report documenting the ways in which women were investigated and prosecuted for conduct pertaining to self-managed abortions between 2000 and 2020, prior to the fall of Roe.
Whether abortion laws target providers, aiders and abettors, or women themselves, the criminalization of abortion necessarily involves the surveillance of women. Women’s bodies are often the so-called scene of the crime, and their personal data will, more likely than not, be evidence of the crime. The modern digital environment only amplifies the scope and harm of that surveillance. Communications with friends and family, internet searches, websites visited, purchases made, data shared with mobile apps, location, and other data generated in the course of everyday life become evidence that can be used in prosecutions against women and those that assist them in obtaining abortions.
We offer no single, silver bullet solution for the threat of surveillance and prosecution women face in a post-Dobbs world. But there are some intermediate measures that can mitigate this threat. As our research demonstrates, state laws criminalizing abortion are, on the whole, a confusing morass. They often do not unambiguously preclude the prosecution of women. Confusing statutory language coupled with the unpredictability of prosecutorial discretion creates uncertainty—which in turn curtails women’s liberty, compromises their privacy interests, and puts their health at risk. State legislators, especially those who claim that there is no intention to prosecute women, should ensure that laws clearly and explicitly exempt women from prosecution.
Another avenue that holds some promise for disrupting the threat is specifically tied to the state of Delaware, where many big platforms and technology companies are incorporated. Delaware, we argue, should join California and Washington in passing a data shield law that includes provisions specifically designed to prevent companies from turning over data sought by law enforcement organizations from ban states that are investigating abortion crimes. Such a shield law could provide one significant hurdle to law enforcement attempts to investigate and prosecute women who have abortions and those that assist them. As the chosen state of incorporation for many tech companies holding data relevant to the investigation of abortion crimes, Delaware has a unique opportunity to engage in threat mitigation.

(Present)
It's just past 8PM, and I find myself in the tiled coffin of my personal sanctuary: my shower. The balmy steam hides the evidence of my swollen, tear-stained cheeks, my own words replaced by wails of mercy. The sweltering water stings across my porcelain skin, the unbearable discomfort distracting from the emptiness, the nothingness of my shattered, lifeless heart.
Today. Of all days, why today?
If only my body didn't complicate things...
If only my body did what it was supposed to do…
If only my body did what I was crowned to do…
Liam and I have spent over six years testing every last inch of my body for an answer. The simple answer is polycystic ovarian syndrome… if only life were that simple…
------
(Yesterday)
"PCOS isn't what it used to be, though. There are so many women living with it–myself included!" Savannah takes another bite of cake, and I've never been more grateful in all my life for the reprieve from her voice. This is my fourth time hearing this speech about PCOS, and how the diagnosis is taken 'too seriously'. I mean, afterall, we are at her baby shower for Beaumont baby number two. And three. "They gave me the same talk, blah blah blah, percent this and that, and after taking Clomid for only two months," she smiles joyfully, massaging her rounded belly.
I fake a smile, shoveling some fruit salad in my mouth in hopes of keeping my sharp tongue quiet. I'm happy for her; I really am. .
But she's also never lost a baby. Or three.
Two months? 'Only' two months? God…
Liam and I have been prescribed every drug on the market to conceive; we've even tried more natural, holistic remedies, like crushed up superfoods and tree roots, tiny needles being stuck in my eyelids and in between my toes, religious relics and crystals
God, if you've never experienced humility before, the struggle with infertility will strip you bare of any pride left in your body, and after six different specialists, we finally resorted to my biggest–our biggest fear: in vitro fertilization.
But, IVF might actually be the answer to our infertility story.
As Savannah answers more intrusive pregnancy questions about her own body from our close family and friends, my mind disengages. Shielding the bright sun from my eyes, I look across the palace's heavily-decorated back lawn. Soft petal pink and pearl-colored balloons litter the divine scenery.  Signage that boasts kitschy baby phrases seem to be multiplying before my eyes.
I feel a sudden shift in the atmosphere, one that is making me feel– I don't know… funny? I don't feel like myself. In fact, I'm starting to feel slightly ill.
An abrupt piercing shrill of pressure shoots through my temples as my breathing quickens. A trickle of sweat courses down my back as everything begins to spin wildly around me. The laughter of the group of women I'm with becomes sinister and terrifying.
I need to get out of here…
"What an exquisite group of lovely ladies!"
Leo Rys, my ever-charming, newly-divorced brother-in-law. He is well-trained in managing a crowd, but the heart-throb is a master at wooing a very specific demographic: women.
Case in point.
"Sav," he tenderly takes her hand in his, "you look absolutely radiant. Where is that foolish husband of yours, leaving your beautiful self alone–" he slows down his flirting rampage, and I instantly look up, making contact with those familiar Rys crystal-blue eyes. He mouths, 'Are you okay?' before taking out his phone, no doubt to text Liam. "'Scuse me, ladies," Leo nods with a forced, jubilant grin.
With a skip in his step, my brother-in-law takes a knee while placing a tender touch on my clammy arm. "You're looking a little green there, sis," his lips curl softly as he pushes back my careless wisps.
"Kermit the Frog did warn us that it's not easy being green,'' I chuckle. The vibrations of my voice soothe my slightly queasy stomach. I relax further into my chair, fanning myself as I pull my oversize sunglasses over my eyes. "I'm fine," I grin cheekily, welcoming a sudden cool breeze over my skin.
His phone chimes. "Eh… negatory," he snickers under his breath, holding out his hand for me to take it. "The queen has been summoned to his majesty's presence."
Damnit, what did he say to him?
"You better not be making my husband worry about me–"
"Someone needs to keep an eye on your bad self," Leo jokingly winks. "C'mon."
And maybe it was a good thing for me to get away from those women, to get away from this party and out of the sun. I do have a lot on my mind as well–too much actually. Enough to make anyone unwell.
I hate exiting groups earlier than expected.  I just… I just know the inevitable will happen when I leave: they will talk about Liam and me. Worse, they will look at us as if… as if we're wounded.
Gone are the days of hailing us as the 'it' couple…
Gone are the days of discussing our bright future…
Gosh, I really don't feel all too well as I stand up with Leo's assistance, but we make it inside the palace to a secluded sunroom. Bracing myself, I ease into a lounge chair while Leo helps me prop up my feet.
He really is a kind man, much like Liam. I hope he knows how much his return to Cordonia has meant to us as a family, especially his brother. Sure, we have staff that can help us with the countless doctor's appointments and emergency trips to the hospital, but these are intimate times that should be spent with family. And I'm glad it's with Leo.
"Are you okay, love?"  Liam appears at the opposite end of the quarters. Worry is etched across his face as he slowly saunters to my side. "I got here as soon as I–"
I wave my hands in the air. "I'm fine, babe. I think I just got a little overheated," I playfully roll my eyes.
He lets out a slow exhale, wiping the perspiration off of my forehead. "You know better–"
"I know, I know," I raise my hands in surrender as he kisses my head. He's always watching me closely, so carefully, especially with so many hormones pumping through my veins.
"I'll leave you two alone," Leo clicks his tongue as he casually shoves his fists into his khaki shorts. "Text me."
Liam stops him, leaning in closely to whisper, "Grab us some seltzers please. And crackers." Leo nods as Liam makes himself comfortable next to me.
I sit up, adjusting the pillows around my husband before I quickly find the crook of his arm. My crook. By the time I am settled, my gaze is happily met by his.
God, I love him.
Even after all of this time, he still looks at me like I'm the only woman in the room. He doesn't see my shortcomings as a wife or as a queen. He sees me… and still loves me.
I study his face, counting the fine lines around his eyes. He's beautiful, but this has taken quite the toll on us, aging us both. I reach up to caress the perfectly smooth skin of his jaw, my thumb tracing over his dry lips.
He pulls my hand from his face, peppering the inside of my wrist with sweet kisses. He finally rests my palm on his chest, weaving his finger through mine.
I hate that it takes loss to make us appreciate life more, but watching each rise and fall of our hands reminds me that right now, in this moment, we have each other. And each heartbeat, each breath is to be cherished.
Suddenly, we hear a voice clear behind us. "Are you not well, your majesty?"  Gretchen, our part-time nurse, carries a tray of snacks and seltzers into the sunroom.
"Oh, Ms. Gretchen," I quickly wipe away my tears, brightening to her approach. "We're fine."
She is an older woman who actually helped care for Liam's mother in her pregnancies, and also for his father in the end. Liam trusts her, and he thought hiring her would be immensely helpful to us right now.
And he was right; she's been a perfect angel. I don't know what I would've done without her help.
"Leo told me what happened." She pulls up an end table, setting the wooden tray down. "It’s too early for your medicine, but I figured some refreshing snacks might be in order."
"Mmmm," I hum with approval as Liam helps me sit up. "This looks absolutely perfect. Thank you."
Gretchen kindly bows before excusing herself.
I grab a piece of toast, spreading some fresh apple-butter on top. "Have you eaten today?" I pass him a ginger ale as I take a sip of my drink.
I abruptly stop fumbling with the tray when I feel his steely-stare boring holes into me. I glance once, then twice as I watch a large Cheshire grin crawl across his mouth.
"What?" I chuckle as I take a bite of my toast. "You have trouble written all over that face."
He wiggles his eyebrows as he pulls me safely back into his arms, our lips instantly meeting. His tongue swipes eagerly in my mouth. "Baby!" I squeal, pushing back from him as I wipe the corners of my mouth.
He snickers, swiping his thumb across his lips before sucking on it. "Mmmm," he quietly moans, "just what I thought."  I raise my eyebrows in curiosity. "That's the best damn apple-butter I've ever tasted." He tenderly squeezes my bottom as I claim his lips again. And again.
I love this man.
I rest my head back on his chest, listening to the deep thrumming of his heart. My home. We lay in perfect silence, watching the shadows shift throughout the afternoon glow.
But as the sun sinks lower into the earth, I feel my body cling tighter to Liam.
"What are you thinking?" he whispers gravelly.
Damn him. He knows me too well. I reposition myself, sitting up on my side. My eyes begin to sting as tears threaten to fall.  I grip his shirt as his fingertips lightly trace the freckles on the back of my arm.
"About tomorrow," I quietly exhale.
"The doctor's appointment?" He drops his hands to my lower abdomen, giving it a hopeful caress.
Overwhelmed with emotion, I can only nod my head, my breath hitching in my chest as I nuzzle into his shoulder.
Damnit, why us?
"Riley," he croons, enveloping his arms around me. His fingertips become lost in my waves as his lips press intimately against the shell of my ear.
"I–I'm so scared, baby," I whisper, my voice rattled with hoarseness as I wrap my arms around him.
"Shhh," he pulls me closer.  He gently rocks my body, a hand tracing soft figure-eights across me back. "Me too."
------
It's early. Liam and I sit in the doctor's office, waiting for her to return with our test results so we can form the next plan of action for our family.
I've been sick most of the morning, my nerves getting the best of me. But Liam remains steadfast, my rock. He's been reassuring me all morning, wiping my anxious tears away. He refuses to let go of my hand.
A child needs a father like him; this can't be the end of our journey. It… it just can't be.
We hear a click, and Dr. Nguyen walks into the room with a thick file folder. I can't read her as she takes a seat, but suddenly, I see my husband's knee begin to anxiously bounce.
She finally makes eye contact with us, revealing her swollen, red eyes as if she's been crying for days. She clears her throat, dabbing at her cheeks. "Your majesties, I–" she stops to gain control of herself. “I don’t know what I thought was going to happen, but this was definitely not it.”
Her voice trails off as a subtle ringing forms in my ears, and suddenly, everything seems to be moving in slow motion. Liam let's go of my hand; he rests his elbows on his knees, burying his face in his hands.
I take a deep breath, shaking my head. What just happened? I've missed something. I frantically look between my husband and his oncologist. "I–I'm sorry. What?"
"I'm sorry, your majesty," she swallows back the lump in her throat having to deliver the news again. "The cancer? It–it didn't respond to the treatment. And from his scan last week, there are new spots on his kidneys, liver and lungs."
I blink a couple of times, feeling as though I don't know what all of this means. Because it can't possibly mean what I think she is saying.
He's not dying. He can't be dying…
"So," I swallow thickly, "you have a plan. Right?"
"Well," the physician folds her hands on the desk. "We… can… make him as comfortable as possible–"
"I'm sorry," I interrupt. "Are you–are you saying that my husband...?" I pause as I gasp for a morsel of air. "The love of my life is, that he... he's–?" I clamp my hand over my mouth. No, I can't-- I refuse to say it.
But through the blur of my tears, I see the truth.
She’s nodding.
------
(Present)
"Riley?"
I break from my thoughts as I turn towards the deep voice. There at the entrance to the shower towers the most handsome man I have ever seen… or will ever see. His golden curls have been gone for months; he and his best friends shaved their heads when he first started chemotherapy a year ago. His shoulders are still broad, but with his colon resection and loss of appetite, he's thinned out quite a bit.
He is weaker; his skin has weathered.  But he's still my Liam. Even in all of this, he remains my North Star, my hope and my strength.
Which is why I can't get out of the shower. Not yet.
He flashes me a crooked smile, handing me a towel. "C'mon, love," he turns off the shower.
I carefully stand up, wrapping the towel around my damp body.  Liam extends his large hand towards me, my petite grip finding his palm. He leads me out of the shower and twirls me into an embrace, my back against his chest.
He buries kisses into my hair and across my shoulders. "I need you," he lovingly growls.
Then he tenderly drops his hands to my growing, pregnant belly. "And I need you too, my little peanut."
My poor husband… how do I do this?
Without warning, a rush of agony roars around my 22-week abdomen, the abrupt sharp pain causing me to double-over. I grab onto the sink in front of me as I groan from the intense throbbing.
This can't be happening.
"Riley?" Liam steps out of the bathroom, and hollers down the hallway. "Leo! We need help!" He takes me back into his arms. "What is it? What's wrong?"
The pain subsides, and I begin to sob. I can't look at him.
Today. Of all days, why today?
"Liam," I choke out , "my water broke."

A bit of a better backstory for Val and an updated name, Apollo
Val: she/they Apollo: he/him
This story begins with high school sweethearts Apollo and Val. They both had reached the stage where they wanted to start having a family. The two had met in Val’s first year but later began dating in her senior. At 23 and 25, they’d since become engaged. Val was originally a bikini barista at a chain but had found much more interest in beginning their own business in light of the upcoming expensive events in her life. Apollo had worked in financial advising previously but had started to take a step back to help out with Val’s venture. Quickly, the two discovered that Val had a knack for management and social media savvy, having her food truck coffee business blow up online. Nothing could have prepared them for the reception, with Val unable to keep up with the four employees on rotation in the small truck making coffees and teas for paying customers. They renamed her truck “Latte Ladies” and furthered their ventures into starting a physical bar in the city. Money rolled in, with their success story being everywhere in the town.
Things were starting to look up for their career! Meanwhile, she believed their inability to conceive during this time must’ve been due to the stress and excitement, so they’d paid it no mind. Apollo, however, became worried when, after a year and a half of trying, they’d found no luck in their journey. After a heated discussion and convincing, Val went to a fertility specialist with Apollo to figure out the issue. Two referrals and three visits later, it was confirmed Val could not conceive children on their own, having false periods and no egg drop each month. It was devastating news, to say the least, bringing up many hard conversations in the coming weeks. Neither could deny that it was hard to define the words to speak to one another regarding the subject, but they were not willing to back down from their dream of having a family with one another. Apollo had recently seen in the news that uterus transplants and synthetic uteruses were coming into the market to help couples with infertility issues and same-sex couples conceive. “We have the resources,” he argued to her late one night. “Why not give this one last go?” Upon this, they were again in the clinic, speaking with a more experimental doctor. “To do this, we could transfer the uterus to you.”
The doctor tapped her pen on the clipboard in front of her, taking down notes. “However, your blood type is far rarer than your partner’s, so the transplant may take far longer to come to fruition. There’s no guarantee it would take either, given your phantom periods.” The two looked at one another, slightly puzzled. Apollo eventually gave way to the conversation with a confused look. “So what are you saying? We’re not candidates, then?” The doctor glanced up from her notes, hesitantly placing her hand on the counter. “No, sir, I’m saying that this procedure would be more effective if it were on you.” A pause filled the room. Val hadn’t considered this possibility and wasn’t sure what their partner would say. “I’ll do it if it still means we genetically contribute.” He casually responded. Shocked, she stared at her partner for a long while. This was so outside of what they’d anticipated this process would be like, but she’d be lying if it didn’t bring joy to them, knowing their partner would take on the challenge no matter the difficulty. “I’ll certainly give you a few days to truly consider this, as this is a serious procedure and experimental, to say the least.” A smile crept onto the physician’s face.
“You would be one of the first, which would greatly impact this community.” With that, Apollo’s mind was entirely made up. He had no intentions of changing it, but he understood the wait period nonetheless. Eventually, after giving further consent, the procedure took place, which was a pretty lengthy surgery that lasted hours with heavy sedation. Val stayed by her partner's side until she asked to wait in the reception area. She was undoubtedly nervous. The doctors had assured them the surgery would be successful, but they’d have to wait until it was proven to begin the DNA extraction and embryo implantation. The surgery was a complete success, though the recovery time was brutal for them both. Soon enough, the transfer took place, and the new waiting game began. There were two failed transfers, which they’d been told was possible given how IVF usually went down. On the third try, however, things stuck. Funnily enough, it wasn’t a checkup or morning sickness that tipped Apollo off that the procedure had worked. He’d just been cooking dinner when the smell of his regularly cooked dish felt so off he was taken aback. “This has to be a sign; I did read this somewhere.” He muttered as he turned off the stove. With Val still at work for the day, he drove out to the store and bought several more tests (as many of us know, you test practically every day in anticipation and quickly run out). Waiting felt like an eternity as if they hadn’t waited long enough for this. Finally, time passed, and he looked back, two blue lines staring back at him. He covered his mouth silently for a moment, sitting there dumbfounded. “Holy shit.” He finally uttered. This was less about it working and more about trying to prepare a surprise in a half hour. He was incredibly excited, desperately wanting to shoot a quick text and dump the news. He knew better than that, though, as Val would, at the very least, like to be at home when told in person. So, he went back to his dish, having removed it from the fridge and finishing it off with seasonings and the like. When she did get home, he had wanted to put a little note on the table or something like that, but he was still so worked up that it hadn’t fully crossed his mind how much time he had. Eventually, he heard the door creak open, only for her to find him sitting on the floor, zoned back into the test. He looked up and remembered he’d wholly forgotten to surprise her. It didn’t matter though. Tears budded in their eyes, then down her cheeks. “Oh my god, are you serious?” He glanced up, tears forming in his eyes as well. He nodded slowly, a more significant smile forming on his face. “Oh my god!” She ran to him, wrapping her arms around him like a big bear. “We’re going to be parents.” They exclaimed. “Parents”. He replied happily.

📜✨ Past Life Regression
Today, I would like to share with you a fascinating past life regression experience that unfolded before my eyes—a glimpse into the life of an author who once toiled the ancient fields of Chang'an as a humble farmer.
In the depths of a guided past life regression session, I found myself transported to the vibrant and bustling city of Chang'an during ancient times. The air was thick with the aroma of spices and the sounds of market vendors hawking their wares. My senses tingled with anticipation as I witnessed the glorious majesty of the Tang Dynasty.
Amidst the grandeur of the city, I discovered my past self—a humble farmer tending to the fertile lands just beyond the city walls. The simplicity of life in the fields was a stark contrast to the magnificent palaces and bustling streets. With each passing day, I cultivated the earth, feeling the soil beneath my calloused hands and the warmth of the sun on my back.
As the seasons danced, I witnessed the ebb and flow of life as a farmer in ancient Chang'an. From the tender sprouting of seeds in spring to the bountiful harvests of autumn, I was intimately connected with the cycles of nature. Each day brought new challenges and rewards—a delicate balance of hard work, resilience, and trust in the wisdom of the earth.
The true beauty of this past life experience lay not only in the rhythm of the land but also in the vibrant tapestry of human connections. I witnessed the camaraderie of fellow farmers, sharing stories, laughter, and the weight of a collective existence. Together, we celebrated the harvest festivals, expressing gratitude for the abundant blessings bestowed upon us.
While my days were spent toiling in the fields, a seed of creativity nestled within my soul. Evenings were devoted to the art of storytelling, weaving tales that mesmerized young and old alike. It was in the quiet moments, surrounded by the whispering breeze and twinkling stars, that inspiration struck and words flowed effortlessly from my pen.
As I emerged from this profound past life regression, I carried with me the wisdom of the farmer's life—a deep appreciation for the cycles of nature, the power of community, and the creative spark that dwells within. It reminded me that our present passions and talents may have roots in the experiences of long-forgotten lives, shaping who we are in the here and now.
