Tommy didn’t sleep well that night, but that is nothing new. He kept his arm around his girl all night, keeping her close. Part of him was relieved that the feelings he had were mutual, the other part he felt like such a dirty old man. In a way, things were even more complicated now. Now what? Do they date now? After pretty much raising her? Do they get married? Do they keep this a secret? How will the family take this? He didn’t know what to do. He partly hoped that she doesn’t remember what happened last night, and things can be somewhat normal, for her anyways. Things will never be the same for Tommy now regardless. Catherine moves in her sleep, turning towards tommy now. She wiggles closer to him, putting her head on his bare chest with a sigh. She softly kisses his chest, “Are you awake Tommy?” she gently asks. He strokes her hair. “Now you know the answer to that love, I don’t sleep much. How are you feeling?”
“I’m alright I guess; I slept like the dead. My head feels funny though.” Tommy chuckles, “That’s the whiskey for you, I’m just glad you're not sick to your stomach.” he pauses, deciding the route he should go with this, “You remember your party, don’t you? Or did Arthur have you three sheets to the wind?” he joked. “No, I remember it. The pretty cake Polly made, the music, the dancing. I remember climbing into bed with you and you were all grumpy about it.” She averted her eyes, not wanting to say more in case it was all a drunken dream. He showed her his hand, “I broke a pen all over me, and you tried to clean me up half asleep and drunk.” he smiled, kissing her forehead, “I believe the rest of it I'll have to just wear off.” He notices her faraway look, and nudges her, “Hey now, what it is?” Catherine lets out a shaky breath. “Did I do something wrong last night, Tommy? I feel like something happened. I remember feeling really good in your bed, and you came out of nowhere, and you were all happy....”
Tommy grabs her chin, making eye contact. “You did nothing wrong, sweetheart. I promise. You just had a happy dream about me last night, and I accidentally walked in on it. No big deal, you are a big girl now, it’s normal.” Her face turns crimson imagining what Tommy walked in on. Tommy holds her tight, whispering, “You looked so pretty love, like an angel. I didn’t want to scare you, so I let you have your moment. When I heard my name come out of your mouth, it felt like my body was on fire. I couldn’t take my eyes off you. So innocent for me. Oh, Cathy, I love you so much. You have no idea.” Silent tears fell down Catherine’s cheeks at his confession. “I love you too, Tommy. I've wanted you since I was 16. No other man cares about me like you do. You are always there, for whatever I need. I’d be so good to you, Tommy. I’ll take care of the house, the cooking, hell I'll even light your smokes for you...” Tommy interjects, wiping the tears from her eyes, “What are you telling me, Cathy love?” Sniffling, she replies, “I’m telling you I don’t want no other man, Tommy, I want you. I don’t want to leave here and marry off; I want to be your little girl forever. Please keep me, Tommy. Please.”
Tommy sits up, pulling her onto his lap, “You’ll always be my little girl, no matter what. Honestly, I've been dreading the day that you would leave me. If being by my side would make you happy, then you’ve got it. It's an honor and privilege taking care of you, love, and I'll do it till the day I die. You do realize that this isn’t normal right? That people will talk?” Cathy buries her face in the crook of his neck, “People already talk, Tommy, I hear it. And I don’t care. I really don’t. Why do you think the townspeople leave me alone? Because I belong to you, Tommy Shelby.” Tommy gently pulls her face towards his own, lips almost touching, “Say that again, sweetheart.” She gazes into his bright electric eyes, “I belong to you, Tommy Shelby. I am yours.” She leans forward, their lips finally touching. A soft moan comes out of Tommy, finally this is happening. Her kisses are just as sweet as she is. After a while of passionate making out, she breaks apart from his mouth, “That was my first kiss, you know.” She shyly admits with a giggle. He kisses her neck, making his way up to her ear. The fact that he will be her first everything is extremely arousing to him. She really does belong to him, now and forever. He purrs in her ear, “Did you like it love?” With a gasp at feeling his mouth on her earlobe, she replies, “Yes, Tommy.” He moans in her neck at her admission, “There is so much more to enjoy with me, love. Can I make you feel good?”
Her hips aimlessly grind on his leg at his words, dying for friction. “Yes, but I don’t know what to do, you’ll have to help me.” Her lack of experience is making her nervous now. Tommy rubs her sides as he is back to kissing her pretty face, “It’s okay, I've got you sweetheart. Just enjoy me, I'll do all the work, love. Here, let me help you out.” He grabs her hips and moves her back and forth on his leg with more pressure than before. Nice and slow, she is already leaking onto his leg, and he can feel it. His face moves to her chest, inches from her hard nipples, demanding attention. “Does that feel good?” he asks her. She is in her own little world, so he doesn’t get a reply. The look of total pleasure on her face is answer enough. With a chuckle he mumbles to himself, “I’ll take that as a yes.” as he takes her nipple in his mouth. The new sensation brings her back to reality as she grips his hair with a cry of his name. Between his soaked leg, and hearing her whimper his name, it takes everything in him not to come in his pants. “Oh god, you're so wet for me, I think you are ready for more aren’t you? Raise up a little love, let me give you some more.”
She shakily raises up, as his hand goes between her legs, pushing her panties to the side. “I’m going to gently put one finger inside love, and you are going to move up and down it. Just ride my finger for me, okay? Can you do that sweetheart?” She nods as she kisses him with need. His strong finger gently slides into her, her walls fluttering at the intrusion. “That’s it love, good job. So warm and wet for me, just like that.” he moans, “Ride my fingers angel, you can do it.” Catherine slowly moves up and down, getting used to this new sensation. Tommy’s finger feels so good inside her, she wants more though. He looks at her face full of lust for him, “I think you can take another one, don’t you?” He slides another finger in, she gasps at the filling stretch. “Just ride my fingers, sweetheart, let it feel good. This is all for you.” She moves with more confidence at his encouragement. Tommy is watching her in amazement. “Such a pretty girl for me. That's it, love, do what feels good to you.” His thumb finds her clit, gently rubbing her as she rides. She lets out a long moan as her thighs begin to shake. “T-T-Tommy...” She sputters out as her high begins to build. “Yes, sweetheart, I'm right here. Let it go. Let it all go.” He growls in her ear at feeling her squeeze his fingers, “I’ve got something even bigger for you love, I'm all yours. Let me have it sweetheart, let it go.”
Catherine falls apart at his words, collapsing into his chest. Tommy wraps his other arm around her as his fingers stay inside her. She cries his name repeatedly, as she comes all over his lap. “Yes, angel, there you go. I know you needed that, huh?” He gently pushes her onto the bed, as he takes what little clothes she still has on off her body. “You are so beautiful, all for me, right?” She jerks slightly in aftershocks of her orgasm, face flushed in pleasure. “Yes, Tommy, all for you. I’m all for you, all yours.” Tommy takes his pants off and kneels in front of Catherine, his hard cock throbbing for her, pointing at his navel. He slowly strokes it, as Catherine can’t take her eyes away from it. “This is what you do to me, love.” he moans, “This is what you do. You turn me on so bad, you have no idea, sweetheart.” She opens her legs as he comes nearer. Both are dripping in need for each other, as she reaches out to touch him. “No sweetheart, don’t touch,” he tells her, “I won’t last with your soft little hands, I must be inside you. You can touch me all you want later, okay?” She smiles up at him, as he raises one of her legs to his hip. She is fully exposed to him now, as he takes his cock and rubs it between her lips and on her clit. They both moan at the touch. “Tommy... it feels so big. It won’t fit!” He bends down to kiss her lips, holding her face. “Yes, it will love, I'll be gentle I promise. You can do it, you’re my girl right? All mine?”
“Yes, all yours, Tommy.” She gasps as the head enters her, stretching her more than his fingers ever could. She claws at his shoulders as the discomfort rises. “Easy, sweetheart, I've got you. It's okay,” he coos as he gives her gentle kisses, “Such a big girl for me, my big girl.” He rubs her thighs to distract her from the pain. “Tommy... it hurts!” Catherine cries, as he is almost fully inside her. “I know baby, I'm sorry. You are just so little. Do you want me to stop? The worst part is almost over.” Tommy kisses her neck as the last inch is finally inside. “There you go, sweetheart, I'm in. You did so good for me, love. Such a good girl.” Tommy stays still, letting her get used to him, giving her praises and kisses to help relax her. “Oh, angel, you feel so good. So little wrapped around me. My big girl, all for me. Relax, sweetheart. I’m right here, I've got you, forever. I'm not going anywhere.” Catherine finally relaxes at the intrusion, gazing into his loving ocean eyes as he stays inside her. She strokes his sharp cheekbones, “I’m okay, Tommy, you can move now.” With a deep passionate kiss, he slowly pulls halfway out and slowly back in. Tommy moans her name, “You take me so well, fuck. I’ll do anything to take care of you, I promise, I'd kill for you, love, you know that?” All Catherine can do is moan and say his name, the new sensations overwhelming her small body.
“All mine, you're my girl, no one else will have you. You belong to me, I'm the only man that can make you feel like this. I’m the only one that can make you come like this. Do you hear me, love?” He growls as he hits that undiscovered spot inside her. “Yes, Tommy, yes, I’m all yours, all yours. Please Tommy, I love you!” Catherine’s back arches as she comes for the second time that morning, screaming his name. “Oh fuck, I love you too!” Tommy hit his release, tears in his eyes at how good it feels. She has been officially claimed by Tommy Shelby, she is his and he is hers, now and forever. He gently pulls out of her sore body, pulling her to him. “That was even more amazing than I could have ever imagined,” Tommy mumbled sleepily, “I love you, Cathy. You aren’t going anywhere now, most definitely. You are more addicting than any opium.” He kisses her forehead, as she chuckles, “You can’t get rid of me Mr. Shelby even if you wanted to, you are forever stuck with me, you said it yourself! I don’t want anyone else.” She rubs his sweaty chest as they both drift off to sleep. Just how it should be, Tommy and his little girl. Forever.

Far too many critics: *Heathcliff is an embodiment of Nature who rejects every aspect of civilization, who doesn’t care about learning, is basically a savage*
Meanwhile the 13-year-old Heathcliff:
“Heathcliff bore his degradation pretty well at first, because Cathy taught him what she learnt, and worked or played with him in the fields.”
“”At Thrushcross Grange,” he answered; “and I would have been there too, but they had not the manners to ask me to stay.””
“We crept through a broken hedge, groped our way up the path, and planted ourselves on a flower-plot under the drawing-room window. The light came from thence; they had not put up the shutters, and the curtains were only half closed. Both of us were able to look in by standing on the basement, and clinging to the ledge, and we saw—ah! it was beautiful—a splendid place carpeted with crimson, and crimson-covered chairs and tables, and a pure white ceiling bordered by gold, a shower of glassdrops hanging in silver chains from the centre, and shimmering with little soft tapers. Old Mr. and Mrs. Linton were not there; Edgar and his sister had it entirely to themselves. Shouldn’t they have been happy?”
“she was a young lady, and they made a distinction between her treatment and mine.”
Heathcliff a little older:
“He had reached the age of sixteen then, I think, and without having bad features, or being deficient in intellect, he contrived to convey an impression of inward and outward repulsiveness that his present aspect retains no traces of. In the first place, he had by that time lost the benefit of his early education: continual hard work, begun soon and concluded late, had extinguished any curiosity he once possessed in pursuit of knowledge, and any love for books or learning. His childhood’s sense of superiority, instilled into him by the favours of old Mr. Earnshaw, was faded away. He struggled long to keep up an equality with Catherine in her studies, and yielded with poignant though silent regret: but he yielded completely; and there was no prevailing on him to take a step in the way of moving upward, when he found he must, necessarily, sink beneath his former level.”
Heathcliff did once possess a curiosity in pursuit of knowledge. He was not deficient in intellect. Cathy teaching him what she learned was a silver lining for him as a 13-year-old boy. He struggled long to keep up an equality with Catherine in her studies! He yielded through poignant though silent regret! He was hurt and bitter that they hadn’t accepted him at Thrushcross Grange and knew why.
His ultimate revenge on Hindley Earnshaw was depriving his son of education; he enjoyed it more because Hareton was intelligent and had potential like he did, and he did empathize with Hareton in his struggles to be accepted. His ultimate revenge on Thrushcross Grange was owning it. His absolute hatred of books in his later life is clearly coming from a place of hurt; he is literarily-minded when he wants to be: See the letters he dictates to Linton to send to Younger Catherine, see his whole interaction with Younger Cathy in Chapter 22.
Heathcliff isn’t inherently hostile to civilization, civilization is hostile to him. Adaptations making him a Wild Manchild are missing the point.
Heathcliff is not an Superman who was always above it all and who never cared about anything beyond his spiritual connection with Cathy; his revenge partially comes from a place of hurt and grief over lost potential. He is a very human character, not a symbol.
It is not about a primordial war of Nature against Civilization. It is about racism and snobbery and some opportunities not being given to some people regardless of merit.
The ending of the book is Catherine teaching Hareton to read. “But”, you will say, “Hareton is a princeling in disguise, he is the legitimate heir”. Yes, but one of Younger Catherine’s best actions is actually letting young groom Michael to borrow books from her library.
Wuthering Heights said education is good actually and should be accessible to all

TRoP Fanfic Prompt:
Circumstances coerce Sauron, Galadriel, & Celeborn to “play house”
Tumblr media
Who portrays Celeborn here? Why, it’s Tom Hiddleston
Prompt
What if Galadriel binds herself to Sauron and Celeborn returns? But instead of being conveniently side-lined, he moves in? Because he has to.
Reality is faced: Galadriel’s fea/spirit is split between both husbands, each as different as frost from fire. Consequences are to be had - the kind that force all three into an unimaginable and reluctant arrangement.
*
Dynamics inspo: essentially, maximum drama.
Miriel, Elven queen whose fëa/spirit was depleted
Inessa Armand x Lenin x Nadya Krupskay
Heathcliff x Cathy x Edgar in Wuthering Heights
Rhett x Scarlett x Ashley in Gone with the Wind
Vicky x Juan x Xtina in Vicky Christina Barcelona
*
Example Storyline
Soon after binding to Sauron, Galadriel’s occasional bouts of sorrow become more frequent and intense, threatening Sauron’s lifeline to the light. Until, these bouts inexplicably begin to wane.
Alas, it’s discovered why: Celeborn lives and had been journeying back to his wife. Now split between two husbands, Galadriel’s weakened fëa/spirit and Sauron’s penitence coerce all three into an unthinkable & taboo arrangement. For only the Valar can dissolve a binding.
Receiving the Valar’s intervention hinges on Sauron begging pardon from Manwë. But should Sauron return to darkness, they are all doomed to remain in the reluctant ménage a trois. Somehow they have to put aside drama and make this work.
*
Random plots, arcs, & themes:
Celebrian’s unusual parentage. Galadriel has separate sexual relationships with Sauron and Celeborn, who tolerate each other for love of her. That is, until one wine-filled night. An exact year later, Celebrian is born. While the child looks undeniably like Celeborn, it’s not long before she displays Maia powers.
Dark/Murderous. To restore Galadriel’s fëa/spirit. and have her to himself, Sauron schemes to be rid of Celeborn - permanently. But seemingly gentle Celeborn is an unsuspecting formidable foe, having also “touched darkness” during his travels.
Two bucks in Spring. Despite unspoken mutual attraction, Galadriel insists that her alliance Sauron is only a platonic “Faustian bargain.” Things begin to heat up until Celeborn returns. Events force all three into a household and relationship of sorts, although only Celeborn has carnal access to Galadriel. Despite lines seemingly drawn, Sauron competes with Celeborn to usurp Galadriel’s favor.
Hannibal-ish bromance/the “missing ingredient.” Celeborn finds his deep loathing for Sauron giving way to the other man’s charisma, defiance of limitations, lack of shame of who he is. Things Celeborn struggled with under his gentle exterior. Perhaps Sauron’s the key to mastering his own fears - or the spark to breaking bad. Will Galadriel be pleased or unexpectedly jealous?
More Husbands-focused/Wuthering Heights-ish. Lest her weakened fëa/spirit kill her, Galadriel beseeches both men to be at peace. But it proves too much and her spirit leaves her body to heal in Mandos’s Halls. Can both men relinquish possessiveness and grudges? Or will they both loose Galadriel and Middle-Earth to darkness?
Change of heart. After initially desiring to be with Sauron, Galadriel sees his repentance is doomed. She returns to being Celeborn’s wife. Or perhaps, seeing how she’s changed, Celeborn gives her up.
Felt inspired and wrote a fic? I want to read it! Tag me and feel free for each out for any guidance.

On the evening previous to her being brought to my home, my mother had said playfully, "I have a pretty present for my Victor—tomorrow he shall have it." And when, on the morrow, she presented Elizabeth to me as her promised gift, I, with childish seriousness, interpreted her words literally and looked upon Elizabeth as mine—mine to protect, love, and cherish. All praises bestowed on her I received as made to a possession of my own. We called each other familiarly by the name of cousin. No word, no expression could body forth the kind of relation in which she stood to me—my more than sister, since till death she was to be mine only.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
‘See here, wife! I was never so beaten with anything in my life: but you must e’en take it as a gift of God; though it’s as dark almost as if it came from the devil.’
We crowded round, and over Miss Cathy’s head I had a peep at a dirty, ragged, black-haired child; big enough both to walk and talk: indeed, its face looked older than Catherine’s; yet when it was set on its feet, it only stared round, and repeated over and over again some gibberish that nobody could understand. I was frightened, and Mrs. Earnshaw was ready to fling it out of doors [...]
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
gothic literature will just be like, here have a foundling you can establish a pseudo-incestuos relationship with, have fun with the codependence until tragic death tears you apart

The Gentle Art of Moving a Cat Off Your Lap
Written for the Choco Box Challenge with a Femslash February flavour
Prompt: Feeling at Home
Title: The Gentle Art of Moving a Cat Off Your Lap
Ship: Catshipping | Cathy/Rio
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh! ZeXal
Rating: T
Word Count: 1,149
Tags: Fluff and Angst, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Lap Pillow
Big, empty mansions with no parents were difficult to feel at ease in.
The most innate want a child had was parental comfort, parental providing. Whether it was a hug or a warm meal, a story read by bedtime, there was a lot to crave when you were a little human but they appeared to have missed out on all that nurturing. They had to hug themselves, they had to eat meals made by themselves, and those books had to be read by themselves in their minds.
Cathy and Rio understood this intimately. Even if it did come from different places of understandable teenage angst, of neglect. Rio had no parents. They had died in an accident. Cathy may as well have had none on account of how absent they were from their life. But the fact remained, regardless of the specifics of their circumstances, they were quite lonesome, Cathy externally and Rio internally.
There was this idea that homes would be these cosy, bustling places full of joy and laughter.
No disrespect to Ryouga, Rio loved him very much but he could be distant, at times. He wasn’t exactly a bundle of mirth. He was different after the first accident in the backseat of their family car and different again after Rio’s accident with Thomas.
And same for Cathy, she may have had her dozens upon dozens of pet cats and strays she looked after, all their names and quirks committed to memory but their company could only go so far. She loved them dearly but the conversations were direly one-sided.
So instead. They lived in these big mansions of luxury and opulence but their most basic needs of socialisation were going unmet but, they had each other.
   Now, at least.
It had taken some mileage before their relationship had turned romantic. Let alone platonic. But once they had made that connection, it would turn out that they had much in common, as much as they did in contention given Cathy’s affinity to cats and Rio’s aversion to them.
They got talking, for a start. Just about the weather, at first, how classes were going and what kind of grades they were getting. Eventually it wasn’t just small talk and that’s how they discovered that the cat was out of spare lives and the ice princess really was stuck in a castle all her own.
But it didn’t have to be that way, they both pointed out to one another.
They could change things. At least in small ways. Cheerful company to shorten the miles, or so the saying went. Though, in their instance, it was more like company to make these big, empty buildings they belong to finally feel… homey.
Though Rio’s nose did perpetually wrinkle at the idea, she did agree to visiting Cathy in her own home whenever she could. It was becoming more and more frequent, for longer and longer. Even meals eaten together, it was nice. Rio wasn’t sure if she could call such visitations to be dates but they were definitely dating each other.
“I promised Ryouga that I would be home early tonight,” Rio murmured as she carded her fingers through Cathy’s soft, grey hair, “he’s trying to make an effort, you know. I appreciate it.”
“But I had you first.” Cathy snuggled into Rio’s lap possessively.
Rio giggled, “I don’t think that’s quite right chronologically.”
“Can I come with at the very least?” Cathy asked.
“No, he wanted to be just us, y’know.” Rio said. “You’d feel the same way, right, if your Mother and Father wanted to have a special dinner with you.”
Cathy hummed to herself. She didn’t want to say it out loud but Rio was right. The unfortunate thing about dating the school sweetheart who was top of every grade and academic class, she had a very annoying habit of being right more often than not. Cathy pouted.
“Maybe some other time, though.” Rio said. She placed her hand by her side.
“Yes, maybe some other time.” Cathy agreed, mumbling. Already, she missed the feeling of Rio playing with her hair and massaging her scalp, she tried not to show it but it just emphasised how defeated she sounded after Rio gently rejecting her offer.
   Or seemingly defeated.
Cathy really was like a cat, and this was the only time Rio would consider a cat cute but she did know when its belly was up, that meant it felt safe and vulnerable. The same thing for Cathy. Her mannerisms were odd but readable with the right.
She looked adorable with her head in Rio’s lap, her body all laid out along the bed that they were sharing, the four posters and all its elegance of her bedroom. The resemblance was too much, especially considering Cathy’s physical eccentricities, too, like how her hair pricked up untameable or the slits to her eyes. Though, her eyes were closed in her daydream.
She rolled over and snuggled into Rio’s lap. Rio laughed as Cathy curled up against her, knees to her chest and nuzzling Rio’s skirt-covered thighs.
“You can’t go if I don’t get up though.” Cathy said.
Rio laughed, “Yes, that’s also true.” she conceded. “I simply do not have the heart to push you off.”
“Good. I would break up with you if you did such a heinous thing to me.” Cathy primly informed her.
   “Good to know.” Rio laughed.
Cathy rolled over again and she opened her eyes. Her expression was… sad. Not fully sad, perhaps more bittersweet.
“Rio,” she said, “can I tell you something?”
“You can tell me anything, Cathy, I promise.” Rio replied.
“You feel like home.” Cathy said and her words surprised Rio.
She felt them right in her heart. Deep in her heart.
With a heavy sigh, Cathy got up and she pecked Rio’s cheek.
“I look forward to having dinner with you and your brother, one day.” Cathy said. She sounded dear and genuine.
That, too, Rio felt very deep inside her heart, maybe even her soul.
“That’s very sweet of you to say, Cathy, maybe one day soon, I’ll look forward to it as well.” Rio replied with a smile.
Cathy smiled but she could never help herself to a dash of mischief, her smile turned into a smirk as she said, teasing, “He might be a fish but I promise I won’t eat him, nya.”
“Oh, you darn cat.” Rio playfully retorted and despite having just promised not to, she did push Cathy away from her just slightly, making her sway upright on the bed.
Still, Cathy’s gaze on her was soft and fond, “You go and have a good dinner with your brother, okay?” Cathy said, following up her teasing with something earnest again.
“I will.” Rio smiled, a hint of a blush in her cheeks, her gaze, too, appreciative of the bond she had with Cathy.

What did you think about Isabella Linton?
"Isabella - she's the perfect golden child ..."
just kidding XD kind of ... we'll get to that.
That's probably what the Linton parents would say about both of their kids (kind of a nice thought, but then, I blame them for having a part in creating indoor people).
In the beginning it's a little hard to get a proper opinion of her because she's technically just the other Linton kid ... aka kinda soft, kinda spoiled, that sort of thing. But much like Edgar when he finally punches Heathcliff she does have a willfull side to her that's not just whining ...
I mean, we can say she gets Heathcliff with this willfullness because she's not used to not getting what she wants - it's an interesting constellation since she's not the stereotypical spoiled brat per se, the Linton kids are considered well behaved and calm and wouldn't do something their parents tell them not to, although I suspect that's more lack of passion and interest when they're young.... they just don't have a reason not to behave and don't mind maintaining the Linton's family image. We get a sense of this later when Cathy accuses Nelly of favouring Isabella - she's just easier maintenance and has less passion and wit than Cathy (btw less doesn't mean she's dumb, we'll get to that).
Back to her wanting Heathcliff, I thought it was very interesting that Cathy is trying to be a friend here and talk her out of it - to me, that wasn't possessiveness of him (although I'm not ruling out that it played a role) but that she just knows him better than anyone and, by that, that Isabella isn't the right person for him, that he won't be a good husband to her, and most of all, that he won't look past his wrath against her brother.
Then there's foul bullying from Cathy's side, but that's another story.
Isabella running away is interesting, even when Heathcliff hangs her dog - she goes against all the rules and her own judgement to be with him, and I feel like Bronte is mocking the "love wins, it tames the beast eventually" trope here, because in another story (except for the animal cruelty), this would be incredibly romantic and is probably a part of many stories that the bookish Isabella has read herself - and end in a romantic happily ever after, of course.
However, the plot that follows was kinda cool - not only did Isabella really impress me with her resilience and will to do her own manual work if need be, but she didn't falter to Heathcliff's cruelty despite it being beyond anything she's ever experienced.
And I was kinda intrigued by how she bonded with Hindley briefly over their shared hatred and wanting to kill him.
Plus her escape was kinda impressive too. She didn't fear him enough not to do it, and her joy over having ditched him like this was really refreshing. And she intended to keep her child safe from him.
Speaking of Linton - sigh. I'm not happy about how she raised him. I mean, she didn't know any better because she too was raised as an indoor creature, but from what I can tell, she really spoiled him as well. I'm not against coddling your child, but this kid just didn't know it was not to be spoiled. Bronte, once again, critizises how parents' treatment of their kids effects them and the following generation.
So, in total - I like Isabella. Not her spoiled nature, but the way she makes due with a situation and isn't intimidated enough by someone mistreating her not to act - because I didn't expect that from her, and it worked pretty well. She's not great, but she proved to be a lot more resilient than her brother. I liked that :)
Thank you for the question :)

For almost a fortnight now, I have been listening to one song in particular, daily and sometimes numerous times a day. The song is 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush.
This particular song I had first heard years back when I was a student in college. I didn't understand it nor could appreciate it and even loathed it. This is probably because I didn't give it a second hearing. Now I am quite hooked on the song - the music, the lyrics, the vocals and surprisingly the dance too!
Many of you must have not heard about Kate Bush at all and I would not be surprised but she is one of the greatest ever artists to grace the popular music industry.
For the context, she wrote this when she was 17 after watching a television adaptation of the classic Emily Bronte novel Wuthering Heights. The lyrics of the song and the novel itself are quite dark. Kate Bush is playing the role of Kathy, Heathcliff is the person who she is after. She's playing a ghost (Catherine) from the famous Victorian novel, a young woman haunting her lover after a passionate, doomed affair. Hence the very high register in which she sings and the exaggerated facial expressions. It's meant to be creepy and mesmerizing. And it is! It's very theatrical.
Kate doesn't try to sound like any type of singer. She just sounds like any particular character in the song she is doing. Her art comes first. She doesn't sing for the listener as much as she sings for herself, the character she's portraying.
She recorded the song in one take and I have seen her sing (Youtube) this song live with effortless ease.
I have not read Wuthering Heights but I do know the plot and have read an abridged version of the old classic. I think one of the reasons why many like this song is because of the book mainly. A lot of people feel that the song captures the mood of Wuthering heights so perfectly. It's eerie, dark, twisted, beautiful and just so hauntingly perfect.
The vocals and the musical arrangement are insane. What a difficult song to sing and play. It doesn't follow consistent time nor an easy range at all. I can't stop listening to this beautiful masterpiece, it is completely art. This is very very wonderful and of course she is very beautiful and talented. It is a masterpiece, it is magical!
It is not just the song that is a masterpiece that makes you enter in a hypnotic trance, it's the whole performance, the way she moves, the facial expressions, altogether it's an incantation. Kate was always interested in dance of all sorts and practiced with David Bowie's instructor.
To all those who are still reading this write-up, please listen to this song especially if you have read Wuthering Heights, if you like Emily Bronte, Enjoy creativity and musical geniuses like Kate Bush.
Kate is Emily Bronte's soul reincarnated. The full interpretation of the spirit of Bronte's classic tale encapsulated into one tune is a truly remarkable feat. They even share the same birthday just 140 years apart, two artistic geniuses separated by time.
Just listen to the passion and feelings that Kate brings in her song. For those who love to understand singing notice how she uses her powerful vocals especially when she sings
'You had a temper like my jealousy
Too hot, too greedy
How could you leave me
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you, I loved you, too'
The chorus is too good and yet so difficult to mimic it exactly.
Unusual for the stanzas are high pitch and the chorus is relatively low. In fact from the very first line of the song, Kate is screaming the character of Cathy and you can feel that she is actually singing out Wuthering Heights - the book. You can feel the character of Cathy. The music is out of this world. The singing is ethereal and so is the dance. It is complete in every way you look at it. The song was released in 1978 when Kate was just 19 years old.
I am sharing youtube links here. I urge the reader to see all of the videos. There is one with the lyrics.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tP2HXHkFpW4 The most popular official video version 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1pMMIe4hb4 Version 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2mVjN0QQTg The video with lyrics with a better sound
Personally, I feel there are talented people in music today, but they seem to lack the freedom, originality, creativity, authenticity downright magic that legendary artists like Kate Bush possess. She is such an example of why we should let kids do what they want to do.

The 42nd Anniversary of Our Lady of Medjugorje
June 25, 2023
Dear Family of Mary!
Today we celebrate 42 years of Our Lady's presence with us in Medjugorje! It has been a very long and fruitful 42 years. She has stayed with us to protect us and bless us and teach us the ways of God for all these years. And we must acknowledge that for all of these years, the visionaries of Medjugorje have stayed faithful to her call, living her messages, and conveying them to us so faithfully the entire time!
Denis and I are so blessed this year to be staying with Marija at her beautiful Magnificat Hotel. She is so loving, so kind and helpful to all the pilgrims. And she also remains completely available to Our Lady, who visits her every evening at 6:40 pm (summer schedule)! Imagine, for 42 years Marija has built her daily schedule around the visit of Our Lady! Every day!!! This is a heroic and amazing feat! But I am sure that Marija would say that it is completely possible because of the joy and love of greeting Our Lady every day!!
But not only has Marija greeted Our Lady, she has also received the monthly message since 1987! Wow! What would we do without her service to us, relaying the messages just as Our Lady gives them.
Let's pray in thanksgiving this anniversary for the heroic and generous gift the visionaries of Medjugorje have given to us, of staying faithful to the presence of Mary, of having set aside their own agendas in order to receive the Mother of God every day for as long as She asked them to receive Her. They have been mediators of a great grace, an incredible gift to us all!
Long ago Our Mother said to us:
June 25, 1987 "Dear children! Today I thank you and I want to invite you all to God's peace. I want each one of you to experience in your heart that peace which God gives. I want to bless you all today. I am blessing you with God's blessing and I beseech you, dear children, to follow and to live my way. I love you, dear children, and so not even counting the number of times, I go on calling you and I thank you for all that you are doing for my intentions. I beg you, help me to present you to God and to save you. Thank you for having responded to my call!
This is the basic call Our Lady has given us. May we continue to live this call every day, as we help her to present us to God and to save us!!
Let's pray the consecration prayers one more time:
Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
(Given by Our Lady to Jelena Vasilj, 11/28/1983)
O Immaculate Heart of Mary,
overflowing with goodness,
Show us your love for us.
May the flame of your heart, Oh Mary,
Descend upon all peoples.
We love you immensely.
Impress in our hearts a true love.
May our hearts yearn for you.
Oh Mary, sweet and humble of heart,
Remember us when we sin.
You know that all mankind are sinners.
Through your most sacred and maternal heart,
Cure us from every spiritual illness.
Make us capable of looking at the beauty of your maternal heart,
And that, thus, we may be converted
to the flame of your heart. Amen
Totus Tuus (Totally Yours)
by Mother Immaculata
Immaculate Conception,
Mary my Mother,
Live in me,
Act in me,
Speak in me and through me,
Think your thoughts in my mind,
Love through my heart,
Give me your dispositions and feelings,
Teach, lead me and guide me to Jesus,
Correct, enlighten and expand my thoughts and behavior,
Possess my soul,
Take over my entire personality and life,
replace it with Yourself,
Incline me to constant adoration,
Pray in me and through me,
Let me live in you
and keep me in this union always.
I will send out the message as soon as possible!!
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Wuthering Heights
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted, I know. Things have been not great for a while, and I’m ever more aware and anxious about posting thoughts on the internet.
But the book has shook me to the core. I’m fortunate to have read it as an adult--and I’m kind of shocked that this is assigned reading for younger kids, as it exposes the intricacies and horror and anguish that can be love between two people.
I went to see the movie Emily in theaters when it came out, knowing virtually nothing about the Brönte sisters, and was struck when Emily was coded as autistic. I watched her so closely, and it was all there: social awkwardness, special interest, weird ways of being, always searching and always restless... and since I clocked this (although it wasn’t mentioned--as it never is in movies, only implied), I remembered my box set of Brönte sister books my (ex) father-in-law had bought me for Christmas.
Once I polished off Pride and Prejudice for the millionth time, I figured it was time to turn to another author before going through all of my Jane Austen set. Wuthering Heights was much less intimidating looking than Jane Eyer.
I started reading the introduction, got impatient with spoilers, and skipped over to begin consuming the book. It took me a couple of days, and I found once I was deep into the book, it was difficult to put down. At first I was put off by this unreliable male narrator that we are introduced to, especially with his lack of social cue reading and haughty ego.
I never really liked or felt attraction to Heathcliff as a character, but I did feel attraction instead, to the core of the story. When I find a book like this, I have to read it more than once: once for structure and story (and even then, little details and lines lift out of the book, making me run for a highlighter, the poetry of the story hitting me hard), and the next time for detail, for art, for full consumption of a new favored book onto my actual soul.
People have written about this book over and over, but I couldn’t help but feel like the book was written by someone just like me. An out of place blight in the middle of a wild worldly scene, just trying to make a connection--any connection--with those who share the existence. The way the moors are discussed and described reminds me of the agonizing detail I used to take to describe my own home town. Places where others saw poverty and ugly, I saw safety and homage.
Cathy, as a character, is complicated ... I have been her. The mask that we put on in order to climb in the world is very real--her transformation from wild and beastly to charming and lilting is startling. And just like Cathy, there are attachments that I carry along with me whether the other person is willing or not. As though I’m the only one who could really know them fully because I knew them as a child. It is this toxic line of thinking though: that only we can fully know another, and that possessiveness over someone else’s story and life can lead us to do pretty awful things to each other in the name of for your own good.
--Spoilers ahead if you haven’t read the book, so proceed with caution--
When Cathy inevitably dies, both of her lovers ascribe it to the other, when in reality Cathy has made her own prison inside her mask, and it is the mask that kills her. How can she possibly expect Edgar to know her when she has not been fully herself? How can she expect Heathcliff to subjugate himself for the love crumbs that she leaves for him? Cathy gives no one all of herself, and in the end is torn apart by the two people she is trying to be at once, instead of reconciling herself to her actual true identity.
There’s a lot at play here, of course, especially when you consider the social constructs and concepts of the time. Of course Cathy had limited options--much more limited than women today. But at the same time, in fiction, the author can make a choice for her character. Emily chose to tear Cathy into pieces to demonstrate her own fractured existence.
Thankfully Emily was not so abject in her own life that she gives us a totally hopeless novel. Instead, once Heathcliff finally dies, we see a Cathy and Heaton finally together and happy--because they must be happy out of sheer spite of the moors, the bitter cold, and the abusive anger they both endured under the hand of a heart broken Heathcliff.
A man that loves me (or at least he claims to) loves this novel, and I am pretty sure it is because he fancies himself a Heathcliff and me a Cathy. That possessiveness he feels about understanding “the real me” is perfectly captured in Heathcliff’s assertions about Cathy (for every thought she gives to Edgar, she gives a thousand to me... He has planted an oak tree in a flower pot...). This limits Cathy, and it limits me. And ultimately, I’d like to remind him, that it is Heathcliff’s love that destroys Cathy. Heathcliff’s desire to cause and sow pain in return for unrequited love breaks Cathy’s spirit. Although he may claim to deeply love her, there is no proof aside from his claiming that he understands her spirit (even as he ensures that it is dimmed and squashed).
Is he a devil? No. He’s an arrogant man of the time who cannot reconcile the child he knew to the woman she grew into.
My opinions at this time are mushy and half-formed. I’m sure that I’ll be reading this book over and over to find new meaning. Ultimately, I read this book as a warning--a warning away from the kind of love that will destroy us with its intensity, with its demands and with its bonds. How much better is it to be free than to be shackled and held down by this kind of “love”?
That’s a no from me, dog. (But I adore this book at the same time... thank you Emily for giving it to us.)

Spectral intervening
Dan aykroyd tf/possession theme.
-------------------------------------------
Sometimes when our friends leave us it is hard to let go and move on especially when said friend is very much like a sibling, Nathan wasn't perfect by any means, he had sides to him that made him bitter towards others, had difficulty letting go, had a tendency to kill people that’s when he got corrupted by Corey Feldman who took over him and made him into a killer who traps bad people by turning them into living poke-dolls with human organs, he didn't speicifically mean to. Flashforward to 2022, specifically early this month where Nathan’s tumblr-verse summoning spell attempt to bring a deceased partner back to life got the partner's attention but not the answer he wanted. His partner's ex had found a new lover and he wasn't liking any of it...'I keep trying to help you but you don't listen, not in the slightest, your ex is dating someone harmful.' 'Why?' 'That person performs experiments on other people and mutates them, she's a killer.'
“So?”
“There’s nothing good about falling in love with a criminal or a killer, your ex has hybristophilia.”
"Are you saying it's wrong?"
"Yes...I wish I could bring you back."
“Yes, but come on…let me in.”
“I wish I could but it’s not that simple.”
Nathan broke down in tears and started to cry, he may not have looked like he cared that much about his feelings but he truly did and he missed his partner very much, but he had trouble processing that, that night as he sat there on his bed doing his hair and checking his phone, he sensed a supernatural disturbance coming from the box of clothes near his computer, that’s when a spirit emerged from them, that spirit was a spectral version of Corey Feldman. ‘I know how it feels to lose a best friend, I lost both Michael Jackson and Corey Haim in the same year. Haim was my bestie, we were the two Coreys. The point is, screw friendships, they never truly last for longer than a century’ ‘But I care a lot about my former partner,, I feel like i'm responsible for his death.’ ‘Forget what your partner said, his ex is seeing smeone who demands payment, if that woman he's dating wants it, we'll give it to both of the, in blood.’
That’s when Feldman was interrupted by a couple more spirits, mainly Michael Jackson, John Candy, John Belushi, Phil Hartman, Robin Williams and Glenn Shadix. ‘Corey, i’m ashamed of you, don’t you know revenge isn’t a good thing at all?’ ‘But Mike, don’t you want to get your own back on the paparazzi and the media that shamed you and for that insipid documentary that was made about you?’ ‘Even if I could attempt to defend myself one final time, it wouldn’t do me much good.’ “Belushi, don’t you want revenge against Cathy for giving you the drug overdose that killed you?’ ‘It was accidental, besides Cathy died two years ago.’ “Phil, what about your wife? She killed you..don’t you want to get your own back on here?’ ‘Oh no no, she did the job herself and ended her own life, I feel like I don’t have anything to add to that.’ ‘Robin, what about what Disney did and still is doing to your legacy?’ ‘Yes, I got screwed over by Disney, but that doesn’t mean I want to get revenge on them, trying to replace me again as the Genie on the other hand, yeah…let’s just say Will Smith is on my list.’
The ghosts argued…but then spirit!Corey asked…’Glenn, clearly you were pushed down the stairs and you fell out of your wheelchair and that’s how you met your demise, how about getting back on the person who was with you at the time?’ ‘If you’re trying to manipulate Nathan into getting revenge of his friend because of what happened, it’s not working, Feldman. Revenge isn’t a good look for you anyway. Besides, we all know the worst thing you could do is sing them to death.’
Next to Corey Feldman the singer Meat Loaf materialized…’When did you get here?’ ‘I”m new, I just passed away earlier.’ “Have you been shown around?’ ‘Yes, and I think that it’s time that I got to see what you spirit guides actually do.’ ‘Basically a spirit guide manifests to a person of their choice and gives them advice or sometimes gives them spectral assistance. I”m basically telling Nathan to get revenge on the ex-friend of his for how she accepted his apology but turned down his offer to get back to him as a friend but the others here disagree.’ “You’re damn right I disagree.” Robin interjected…’Revenge is never a good thing and as many times as I”ve tried to do it myself, it never ends well. it just doesn’t, take it from a comedian who did a movie about a vengeful ex-children’s show host getting back at his replacement, revenge isn’t good.’ ‘Aaaw come on Robin, let me tell him to do it.’ ‘No, Nathan shouldn’t have to listen to you, yes that new friend of Alyssa’s is a murderer and a serial killer and Nathan was right about him and while he does question the logic of someone falling for a killer, he knows that it’s hypocritical to do so.’
Meat shook his head as he took notes and offered Nathan some advice, telling him that he knew how he felt..’listen, i know that losing a pal can be a nightmare that you wish you could wake up from, I know the exact same feeling and how it feels to lose someone you love, Corey thinks that revenge is a good idea, I don’t. I know my albums are all hellfire and bats and motorcycle fury, but i’m a nice guy really and I only want the best for those I care about and I care about you.’ ‘You do?’ ‘Why yes, I do.’ Corey frowned a little…’But wouldn’t it be fun to slice that woman into pieces and watch as she screams and begs for mercy?’ ‘There’s no fun in causing other people pain.’ Phil Hartman responded.
“I may be new at this whole being a ghost thing but I know you’ll ultimately do the right thing.”
Nathan sighed as he looked into the mirror of his phone, only for Dan Aykroyd to appear. ‘At ease, boys.’ Aykroyd exclaimed as he jumped out. ‘Sir yes sir.’ ‘Our friend Nathan needs our help, clearly he has lost someone very important to him and that someone has come back and no longer wants him to think of them.’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Now…Private Williams, Captain Belushi. How would you help our friend?’
“Well I would tell him that he did what he could and that’s all that matters before telling me if he ever needs a friend he could call on us.’ ‘Very good Robin. What about you, Belushi?’ ‘Well Dan sir, you need to know that as your best friend and second in command, that I too wouldn’t give up on friendship just because one friend I used to be close with left me, there’s always someone new and it’s not worth crying over spilled milk.’ ‘Pretty solid advice as usual, what about you Feldman?’ ‘Revenge, if this ex-friend wants payment for this they’ll get it, in their own blood that is.’ ‘Corey Scott Feldman, you should know revenge is never a good thing.’ ‘Come on Captain Aykroyd, don’t you wanna give it a go yourself?’ ‘Feldman!’ ‘Sorry.’ ‘These guys have the right idea, you don’t. Now, what our friend needs is a little assistance.’
Dan gently used some ghostly magic to erase the bad memories of what happened between Nathan and Alyssa so only the ones he had fond thoughts about were kept, followed by erasing the effects of the blocking spell that she cast and also repairing the one broken link between them. ‘And now for the next part.’ ‘Which is…’ ‘Well clearly i’m only beginning here.’ His eyes turned and gave off a supernatural glow and he brought Nathan over to him before hypnotizing him and conditioning him, this was the process needed to help with what he was going to do next.
“I want you to listen to me.”
“I already am.”
He smiled as he told Nathan what to do next, as he took on a spectral form, diving into his mouth and down his throat, possessing him in the process. He examined himself as his stomach gurgled and swelled, his skin maturing as brownish hairs grew on his stomach and also on his chest and torso which were broadening in the process. “I’ve missed this..’ ‘I knew it, I knew you hadn’t lost it.’ Nathan had been missing out on this for quite a while, he loved the Were-Aykroyd side, since it gave him a chance to get into character and forget about his problems, not to mention he got to enjoy being Dan Aykroyd a lot over time, initially he thought it was weird or creepy but eventually he warmed up to it.
In addition to this his arms enlarged and broadened as his hands followed, the same hairs from before grew on them, he examined himself and purred a little as his legs altered, his rear plumping up to give him that thicc posterior Aykroyd himself had as his shoulders and back broadened, his height going up from 5’7 to 6’1 as his neckline altered, as he was transforming…Meat Loaf summoned several spider-creatures to write a song in memorance for his partner, which they did, the spider creatures formed an apology message which was then transported to the abode his apartment was located at.
It didn’t take any form of mind-wiping to convince the partner that everyone was going to be alright, as Corey undid the effects he placed upon the people, turning the partner's new beau into an immortal living Pokedoll still with human organs and memories, because he knew that he wouldn’t be so heartless as to force him to do this. . Meanwhile, Nathan was still transforming as his hair darkened and his forehead elevated in height, his feet slowly grew in size with two of the toes on both feet joining together at the knuckle to give them a webbed appearance.
Next to this his eyebrows thickened and his eyes widened, one turning green while the other turned brown and his nose broadened, a small cleft materializing in the middle as his lips became more kissable and his features altered, warping into a perfect likeness of Dan Aykroyd as his voice altered in the process, making him sound a lot like Aykroyd as well, deepening and maturing his voice and giving him Aykroydian mannerisms. His personality and mindset altered, his persona shifting into those of his Aykroydian alterego, he remembered that he wasn’t who he was before but he was ‘Dan’ a king Were-Aykroyd who had a group of friends who admired him and he also had a group of siblings…all Aykroyd characters, who loved him just as much, he sighed a satisfied sigh as his transformation completed.
“Now it’s time for the parting gifts.”
“What do you have in mind?”
“Nat tells me that his partner could use with a true reminder of how great he was."
He weaved a cloud of special transformation smoke magic which formed into a special vision of butterflies which emitted a glow which showed his deceased partner all the memories they had shared together. The were-aykroyd was proud of what he had done, he had used his powers to patch things up. ‘See? I told you there was a way to do it without revenge.’ ‘Aaaaw come on, that’s sad…I don’t like endings like this, I wanted to see her die.’ John Belushi chuckled as did Phil Hartman, followed by Robin Williams…’Corey, I know you’re sad about losing Haim and you’re still trying to defend yourself regarding what happened, but it’s not good to hold grudges.’ Begrudgingly, Corey Feldman nodded. ‘I’m sorry for trying to encourage Nathan to do bad things, I don’t mind to be evil sometimes, it’s just I guess I cannot help but be an asshole like that. Oh and by the way, i’m sorry for making fun of Belushi’s samurai costume and Glenn’s kimono. Glenn, you don’t look like a couch.’ Glenn Shadix accepted Feldman’s apology and hugged him, Feldman blushed and then looked over at the other spirits, he had to admit that he had learned a lot…as had Meat Loaf, who for a beginner ghost…had picked up quite a lot. Feldman learned not to let the loss of his friend get to him and reformed.
And thus both of them were able to get what they wanted and got to move on happily with their lives, sometimes it may be hard to move on and we all say things we wish we couldn’t have said it and we wish we could fix up the broken patches, what happens in the past cannot be fixed unless you’re thinking of supernatural ways to do so, so don’t think of the bad things that happened, think of the good things that will happen in the future and are happening right now, yes in these times we always have to be careful but sometimes if we all work together, we can make it through. The moral is as Sting eloquently put in his song, if you love somebody, if you love someone, set them free.

Heathcliff and Cathy both are at points envious of Lintons’ blonde and blue-eyed looks:
“Heathcliff’s face brightened a moment; then it was overcast afresh, and he sighed.
‘But, Nelly, if I knocked him down twenty times, that wouldn’t make him less handsome or me more so. I wish I had light hair and a fair skin, and was dressed and behaved as well, and had a chance of being as rich as he will be!’” (…)
“‘In other words, I must wish for Edgar Linton’s great blue eyes and even forehead,’ he replied. ‘I do—and that won’t help me to them.’”
(Chapter 7)
“‘I’m not envious: I never feel hurt at the brightness of Isabella’s yellow hair and the whiteness of her skin, at her dainty elegance, and the fondness all the family exhibit for her.”
(Chapter 10)
In his revenge, Heathcliff turns these traits into something to hate, something to regret having:
“You’d hear of odd things if I lived alone with that mawkish, waxen face: the most ordinary would be painting on its white the colours of the rainbow, and turning the blue eyes black, every day or two: they detestably resemble Linton’s.’
‘Delectably!’ observed Catherine. ‘They are dove’s eyes—angel’s!’
‘She’s her brother’s heir, is she not?’ he asked, after a brief silence.”
(Chapter 10)
“‘And what is my father like?’ he asked. ‘Is he as young and handsome as uncle?’
‘He’s as young,’ said I; ‘but he has black hair and eyes, and looks sterner; and he is taller and bigger altogether. He’ll not seem to you so gentle and kind at first, perhaps, because it is not his way: still, mind you, be frank and cordial with him; and naturally he’ll be fonder of you than any uncle, for you are his own.’
‘Black hair and eyes!’ mused Linton. ‘I can’t fancy him. Then I am not like him, am I?’
‘Not much,’ I answered: not a morsel, I thought, surveying with regret the white complexion and slim frame of my companion, and his large languid eyes”. (…)
“Heathcliff, having stared his son into an ague of confusion, uttered a scornful laugh.
‘God! what a beauty! what a lovely, charming thing!’ he exclaimed. ‘Hav’n’t they reared it on snails and sour milk, Nelly? Oh, damn my soul! but that’s worse than I expected—and the devil knows I was not sanguine!’” (…)
“‘Tut, tut!’ said Heathcliff, stretching out a hand and dragging him roughly between his knees, and then holding up his head by the chin. ‘None of that nonsense! We’re not going to hurt thee, Linton—isn’t that thy name? Thou art thy mother’s child, entirely! Where is my share in thee, puling chicken?’
He took off the boy’s cap and pushed back his thick flaxen curls, felt his slender arms and his small fingers; during which examination Linton ceased crying, and lifted his great blue eyes to inspect the inspector.
‘Do you know me?’ asked Heathcliff, having satisfied himself that the limbs were all equally frail and feeble.
‘No,’ said Linton, with a gaze of vacant fear.
‘You’ve heard of me, I daresay?’
‘No,’ he replied again.
‘No! What a shame of your mother, never to waken your filial regard for me! You are my son, then, I’ll tell you; and your mother was a wicked slut to leave you in ignorance of the sort of father you possessed. Now, don’t wince, and colour up! Though it is something to see you have not white blood.”
(Chapter 20)
Heathcliff’s words about his future wife and his son are of course abusive and horrifying, but he is flipping the script regarding the desirability of these physical traits.
