I dreamed of SOPHIA last night the great goddess of wisdom. She was a beautiful, tall elegant woman of Middle Eastern appearance but with emerald green eyes. In the dream she is marrying a Saudi Arabian prince. He looks so small and vulnerable, he’s nervous, deeply unsure about the marriage, because wisdom will not submit to tradition. I’m happy, even though the Prince is a fool and Sophia is my former lover, because I know she will transform him and his kingdom utterly and for the better. [Visio Smaragdina]
* * * *
“Sophia became the Goddess of philosophers. Hers is a philosophy of fire, for she kindles the fire within the soul; without her enthusiasm (literally "god-inspiration") there is no warmth m our actions. Although many ancient philosophers retained their allegiances to the mystery cults of the gods, even as some philosophers are still adherents of religions today, so many more took the gods back to their primal atomic principles into greater and greater abstraction; the result is that, for many people, philosophy no longer bears its original meaning - literally "love of wisdom" - but is split off from the realities of existence...Yet the study of wisdom means friendship with Sophia, and kinship with Wisdom brings immortality.” ― Caitlín Matthews, Sophia: Goddess of Wisdom, Bride of God

[The Book of Wisdom] praises Wisdom as a savior goddess, as the rescuer of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Lot, Jacob, Joseph, and the Israelites from Egypt. The myth of Sophia is reiterated in clear terms. Here is how she accompanied Adam into captivity: "She descended into the dungeon with him, and when he was in chains she did not leave him." Sophia comprehends the last atom of matter and accompanies it as surely as she becomes the guide of the lsraelites-the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. "You provided your people with a blazing pillar as a guide for their uncharted journey, a benign sun to accompany them on their glorious pilgrimage."

Officially done watching Ripper Street and I recommend it so much!!
I will take that laudanum tho @corpyburd
I will say that Susan Hart/Caitlin Swift is my favourite character (which tbh she probably should be just for being played by MyAnna) because she is such a complex character in my opinion. MyAnna plays her beautifully. I truly believe that she wanted to be a good person but basically every choice she made resulted in her being portrayed as this evil woman, which was especially hard to watch because in most scenes you could just see the pain and the anguish in her eyes, the scene with Jackson in season 3 is a great example of her being very aware of the situation she put herself in and showed her guilt over it. I loved her because even though she wanted to be a good person she was aware that she made choices ‘good’ people wouldn’t and she does a lot of good anyway but she doesn’t even take credit most of the time. In the end even though it pained me greatly I knew she would accept her fate and hang, which broke my heart because she was and is my favourite character.
And another thing, even though her relationship with Matthew was toxic, unhealthy most of the time (almost all of the time tbh) it was epic, I loved it. They were destined for one another and it shows. It was hard to watch when he was with another but I always knew that they would end up together anyway because, to me, he clearly loved her for the entire duration of the show even though they fought more than anything else. Every time they called each other by their original names I got so soft and giddy idk
Reid often annoyed me though 🙄 but even with that the show was still enjoyable, it’s amazing actually, I finished it and immediately started rewatching my favourite episodes that’s how captivating it is

Cold nights, cold sheets. One more lonely empty hotel room. What I'd give to find my way back into you. I never did you right, and I know that. Too many sleepless nights, I own that. I said it time and time, I know that. I want to try again : Can we start over?

The sacred integrity of Sophia ... dwells in the shrine of the heart... The loss of the Divine Feminine from consciousness is a wound that we all carry. Without her dimension of love and justice, we exile ourselves from the earth, from physicality, and from each other. The resacralization of the body and of womanhood is essential in the West.

The Edge of Love (2008)
I want to talk about these characters.
I specifically want to talk about these characters being written by a female writer, because I feel like that’s what has made all the difference in this film.
The bond between Caitlin and Vera was something I genuinely can’t remember having ever seen before (in that 2008 landscape), and Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller’s relationship in all of the press interviews I’ve seen for this film (and yes, I’ve seen them - what else do you do after watching a film that leaves you feeling empty) - their chemistry together was magic.
These two define sisterhood. Messy, complicated sisterhood. The kind of relationship where you grow together, learn together, face the ugliest, scariest challenges together, make mistakes and still love each other. I’m so glad they showcased this relationship because for me, this is what the film was at its core. The romance with the good man and the bad man and the babies were part of it, sure, but it was Vera and Caitlin, open and judgement free, that was the constant. And this is only ever portrayed when you have a strong female writer and I’m so fkn here for it. I genuinely believe the way Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller reflected this camaraderie off camera has a lot to do with being able to play these characters so freely.
Anyway, these are my thoughts. I really feel like there was just so much to this film. It broke my heart but I enjoyed it. And this relationship would never have existed without a female writer.
I started this journey of films to explore Cillian Murphy’s film catalogue, because we know homeboy can act with his entire soul. But you know, once that’s done, I think I may explore Keira Knightley’s works next because to me they’re genuinely of the same class of acting. I know Sienna Miller from Stardust, but sadly not much else.
Does anyone else watch films for actors? Or explore all films of an actor or director they like? I’m taking any and all suggestions

Waitress: The Musical Review- A Beautifully Done Production Based On The 2007 Film Of The Same Name
Waitress was a 2007 indie rom-com starring Kerri Russell in the lead role of Jenna Hunterson. At the time it had a small following with fans of it saying it was charming and humorous.  Ever since to # MeToo movement has happened. This film has taken on a deeper meaning for a lot of women. It makes sense that it would spawn a Broadway play of the same name.  Adrienne Shelly was the writer and…
