Unfortunately, Erica Messer has confirmed that Spencer Reid will not be in Season 2 of CME.

I think it was very, very silly to wait so long to tell fans, but it does seem like they might have been planning for his return and then it was thwarted by the strikes.

The good news is it seems very likely that we’ll see him in Season 3, so! Don’t give up hope on our boy’s eventual return!

Besides, there are still a lot of wonderful people on this season. I can’t wait.

MAJOR X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE: Today at 1314 UT, the sun produced one of the most powerful solar flares in years, an X3.4-class explosion from just behind the sun's southwestern limb.  NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash.

The source of the flare appears to be departing sunspot AR3575.  Because the blast site was eclipsed by the edge of the sun, the flare was probably even stronger than its X3.4 classification suggests.  This was a big explosion.

Hours after the flare's peak, Earth is still feeling the effects of the blast.  Solar protons energized by the flare are following curved magnetic field lines from the sunspot back to our planet.  The resulting hailstorm, called a "radiation storm," is still intensifying at the time of this writing and may soon reach category S2.

This plot shows what NOAA's GOES-18 satellite is seeing right now.  The colored lines count the number of energetic protons streaming past the satellite en route to Earth.  Green and blue are of special interest because they trace "hard protons" capable of upsetting spacecraft electronics, e.g., causing reboots of onboard computers and temporarily fogging cameras.

The explosion also hurled a bright CME into space.  It will not hit Earth. Instead, a NASA model of the CME shows it is heading for Mercury, Venus and Mars.  It will hit all three planets this weekend.

What do you hope to see for JJ in cme s2? I’m hoping she’ll get an actual storyline that doesn’t revolve around Will then go nowhere like in s1.

Sorry! I’ve been meaning to answer my asks since last month so hopefully I have the time today and this weekend.

Tbh these are more what I hope but will never see happening lol bc I don’t know wtf goes on in this show anymore 🙃. Here’s a list of what I have so far:

First off, as of now, Will will not be returning for the next season (according to Josh Stewart). So I would assume, not as much JJ at home with her family moments like the previous season. I don’t think they are killing Will off bc logically, it would mean having JJ to quit the BAU and stay at home with the boys (and believe me, there is no convincing her to do the opposite and keep working especially with previous BAU members leaving for similar reasons). And they also have AJ signed for more years, so they’re not getting rid of her easily.

I will also tell you what I had in mind since the season 16 finale. I would love to see JJ be part of the Gold Star operation, mostly bc she’s the only person in the team to have contacts outside of the BAU/FBI. (Though knowing this show, they’re going to do a predictable route where it’s probably the AG, Rebecca, or Rossi. Maybe even Elias’ wife).

Before the news about Josh not returning, I was hoping that the show would have them not go through anything more the next season, and have Will completely fine and maybe stay at home. Maybe a few moments here and there between JJ and her family but not super big. It’s probably like JJ having to deal with her boys growing up, especially with Henry as a teenager now. (He might start learning how to drive soon and JJ freaks out about that haha)

Someone reminded me that this year is the 10 year anniversary of JJ’s kidnapping 👀. If CM happened to put any thought into that (highly doubt it) then I would love to see JJ dealing with it 10 years later and how much has changed, especially with having her second son.

Emily and JJ talking outside of work-related things. Maybe even a whole girls’ night out.

may I rant about Jeid? I'm happy we have more Will in CME because it almost makes me forget how they ruined the JJ & Reid friendship. If this was any other show I'd be side eyeing them more for that and having Reid be the godparent. These writers rly need to leave my team dynamics alone

I actually made some posts about this a couple days ago too, when I was finishing s14 haha but here's my (another😂) rant:

I love Will so fucking much (like, we saw him like once or twice a season since s2, how is it possible that I love him this much haha, he's just the best) and he and JJ are so adorable, and I'm so mad that they tried to screw with that - and like, yeah, she said that she loves Will and the boys too, but.... idk, it's just so weird and kinda undermining their relationship, basically implying that she's always wondered what if or was pining for Reid or smth (that's how it came across, at least, and I refuse to acknowledge it as part of the show, it just simply didn't happen 😂)

and like, JJ and Reid literally had one of the best and cutest friendships, they were besties, and he's Henry's godfather ffs

and suddenly JJ's "always loved him"??? like, if she clarified later that she meant that she loved him like a friend/brother but had to make it sound like that in the moment so the guy who was about to kill her was satisfied, then okay, I'd be fine with what she said

but they fucking doubled down on it! and their dynamic at the beginning of s15 was so awkward and I hated it sm (also, Reid subconsciously "waiting for her"? talking to his mom about what what JJ said means? like, wtf did he think was gonna happen)

not to mention, there was literally one episode in s1 when he wanted to ask her out and then they never mentioned it again until s14 - and suddenly they jump in with this bullshit? no thank you lol

it just seemed kinda forced, like they needed to add drama, it didn't even make much sense

in this show, platonic relationships are what matters, they need to stop playing with all those dynamics that work so well fr

also, JJ is literally my absolute fave character, can they leave her the fuck alone and let her be happy with Will pls 😂 (I'm so happy we're getting so much of them now, I love them)

9) Why did you start watching Criminal Minds? My best friend was a fan and she spent years trying to get me into it but I am a stubborn ox and always refused. One day she literally deposited season 1-12 (maybe 11) on DVD at my apartment. They still remained unwatched for at least a few months but one day boredom got the better of me and I put one on. That was nearly six years ago and here we are now 😅

25) Favorite headcanon - most of my headcanons revolve around unsub Spencer most recently. My favourite right now is probably that during CM Evolution Spencer wasn’t really on “special assignment” he’s on some kind of vigilante mission and s2 of CME will be the team tracking one of their hardest to catch unsubs to dates and it would be revealed right at the last moment that it was Spencer.

30) Why you love writing for Criminal Minds! I find it comforting, knowing the show so well there is an ease to writing for it in that it doesn’t require too much thought and sometimes I like to just not think 🤣 also I love it because I am surrounded by so many talented writers and have made so many wonderful friends (you included in both of those) thanks to writing for this crazy ass fandom!

Hi, I love TB & TB. I’m currently reading it in my kindle and I reached the part where Bunny receives oral from Spencer. I was just wondering if you imagined Bunny to be completely hairless or natural? (I’m not a minor dw) And I know this question is intimate so please just ignore it if it makes you uncomfortable. I’m just having a hard time trying to picture things and I wonder if Spencer likes a natural woman.

I'm still wary that even with Will's absence, I do not trust the show that they'll give the rest of the cast not named Rossi more screentime. Even though Reid and Matt are no longer in the show, s16 still heavily focused on Rossi, Elias, Tyler, Will and Bailey. I'm skeptical that things will change for the better regarding the female cast and Luke having more focus in s17

I was incredibly disappointed by CME, if I'm honest. For the first time in the show's history they had a 2:1 ratio of female cast members to male, AND YET THE ENTIRE THING FOCUSED ON MEN??

Like you said, it wasn't just Rossi either. They focused on the unsub, a suspect/victim(?), and the husband of a female lead instead of, idk, just letting the female characters exist within their own storylines 😩

You expect to see ketonuria in someone who has been vomiting and not eating for days, but not glucosuria. So a urinalysis alone can clue you into DKA.

You have to have a diagnosis of diabetes, high blood sugar, and bicarbonate less than 15 (acidosis) to diagnose DKA.

If bicarbonate is below 15, start insulin gtt. Give lots of IV fluids. You will need insulin for the rest of your life whether it's type 1 or 2 diabetes. DKA is a risk factor for brain edema, electrolyte imbalance (hypokalemia), lactic acidosis.

VBG is as good as ABG if VBG oxygenation is greater than 75%.

Triggers for DKA: infection, menstruation increases risk

Fluids, insulin, electrolytes. Isotonic NS or 0.45 NS with other added electrolytes like K+. Start with LR or NS. Then can decrease to 0.45 NS as you add K+. Give fluids as if pt is 10% dehydrated over 48 hours. Start by giving fluids before insulin. Bolus fluids will help decrease glucose. Insulin gtt: 0.1 units per Kg per hour.

You give insulin until the anion gap closes. Can stop insulin gtt when bicarbonate is above 15. At that point, you need to start subQ insulin. You can give basal insulin at time of presentation. Lantus for example; 0.2 per kilogram. Can give SubQ insulin 1 hour before stopping the gtt.

If glucose drops more than 100 mg/dL/hour, you may need to add dextrose to the fluids. If blood glucose is 250 to 300 mg/dL, you can add glucose to fluids. This is to prevent dropping osmolarity too fast and prevent brain edema. Capillary leak can cause brain edema.

Bicarbonate can be given if you're worried about other organs shutting down due to the acidosis. pH below 6.9, can give Bicarbonate. Check bmp at least q4 hours. Insulin moves K+ into cells. Could check BMP q2 hours if you didn't give K+. Don't give K+ if there is EKG abnormality or no urine output.

Type 2 DM can also have DKA. Their phosphorus can be low, which can cause rhabdomyolysis. Check for evidence of rhabdomyolysis.

SGLT2 inhibitor can cause euglycemic DKA. They lower blood glucose by making you eliminate it. People with DM1 took SGLT2 inhibitor, which lowered their blood glucose. Then since they had lower blood glucose levels, they lowered the amount of insulin they took. So basically, they lowered their blood glucose, but then also were not getting glucose into cells. This then lead to DKA where the blood glucose level was normal, but they had ketone production. So these pts need treatment with insulin gtt and dextrose-containing fluid.

While both DKA itself and treatment of DKA have been associated with the development of cerebral edema, many RCTs have shown no difference in neuro outcomes when comparing 0.9% NaCl, 0.45% NaCl, and LR.   Key Point: The sodium chloride content (0.9% vs 0.45% vs LR) of intravenous fluids does not significantly influence the neurologic outcomes in children with diabetic ketoacidosis.

Resolution of DKA: pH is greater than 7.3, bicarbonate is greater than 15, blood ketone level less than 0.6 mmol/L.

Blood glucose level does not play a role in determining whether a patient is in DKA or not. A patient is considered no longer in DKA when their pH is >7.3, bicarbonate is >15, and blood ketone level is <0.6 mmol/L.  

Key Point: While patients in DKA often present with hyperglycemia, it is not required for a diagnosis of DKA. Additionally, glucose levels play no role in determining the resolution of DKA.

Insulin has a short half-life (7-10 minutes), so when stopping an insulin drip, subcutaneous basal insulin should be given before the insulin drip is stopped or at the time of stopping the drip. This is due to the high likelihood of ketosis returning promptly without insulin on board. Additionally, there is a movement starting of giving basal insulin at the time of presentation along with the insulin drip. This gives a safety level of insulin, so there is less worry when stopping the insulin drip.

Key Point: Due to the risk of opening the anion gap back up without any insulin on board, basal insulin should either be administered at the time of presentation along with the insulin drip or immediately after stopping the insulin drip.
