[id: two bust illustrations of miles singer, followed by two bust illustrations of tristan hunter. miles is wearing a black waistcoat and green tie in one drawing, seen in profile, wearing small round glasses. in the other, he is facing the viewer, wearing a brown coat. his "little doctor glasses" are labelled, as are his sack jacket, his tired face, and his unbrushed hair. he has an olive complexion and dark brown hair, with honey brown eyes.
the first drawing of tristan has him facing the viewer, wearing a grey waistcoat with a silver ascot. his wavy blond hair is braided over one shoulder and artfully swept back. he has arched brows, narrow blue eyes, a prominent jaw, full lips, and slightly tan skin. he has one dimple. in the other drawing he is seen in profile, wearing a red robe embroidered with gold, using one hand to brush loose hair off his forehead. his thick eyebrows, "silly monogrammed robe", and blond hair are labelled. end id.]

Even Though I Knew the End by C.L. Polk
Tumblr media
Today's sapphic book of the day is Even Though I Knew the End by C.L. Polk!
Summary: "A magical detective dives into the affairs of Chicago's divine monsters to secure a future with the love of her life. This sapphic period piece will dazzle anyone looking for mystery, intrigue, romance, magic, or all of the above.
An exiled augur who sold her soul to save her brother's life is offered one last job before serving an eternity in hell. When she turns it down, her client sweetens the pot by offering up the one payment she can't resist―the chance to have a future where she grows old with the woman she loves.
To succeed, she is given three days to track down the White City Vampire, Chicago's most notorious serial killer. If she fails, only hell and heartbreak await."

Summary:
Two best friends looking for love. An oppressive interstellar government. Adulthood has never been so stressful... For the first time, all five books in The Meaning Wars are united as a complete collection. In this queer space opera featuring a diverse cast, a found family navigates the politics of revolution and freedom. Join Crystal, a wormhole engineer, and Sarah, an English Literature graduate with a chip on her shoulder, as they try to find romance and friendship - while an oppressive interstellar government watches their every move. As Crystal deals with her faltering marriage, Sarah makes risky career decisions - by doing what's morally right. Running from the surveillance state of the Human Conglomerate, will the Interfederation's multi-species alliance prove their salvation? A crew of old friends and a union of renegade space pirates may be their way out. But first, they have to save rebel icon Patience Ngouabi from arrest and certain torture - and make sure they all get out alive. Fans of Ruthanna Emrys' A Half-Built Garden and Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series will love the cosy yet intense adventures of this crew of misfits fighting for political and social justice.
So if you want a distraction from the midterms, here it is! Read it, revitalize, and recharge. <3

Even Though I Knew the End Summary:
Where you're not going to hell for being gay your going to hell for selling your soul to the devil. Subtle difference.
Female General and Eldest Princess Summary:
In order to survive in troubled times; in order to get revenge for loved ones; in order to claim justice for all 118 people who died undeservedly in the village. Lin WanYue took the residence registration of her younger brother Lin FeiXing to join the army, and was determined to kill the Huns all over the world.
The empress died at court, leaving the 16 year-old princess and the 8-year-old crown prince to rely upon each other for their lives. Several princes older than the crown prince were greedy for the throne, and the two were in a precarious position.

I am so happy to be a part of the #QueerBookstagrammerTour again this year!
Leave it to me to wait until the last minute to get photos for this and then not be able to choose which to use. 😂 I picked a few of my favorite queer books to feature. Books that spoke to me on some level or were just incredibly fun reads. I'm happy to answer any questions!
Some facts about me:
• I'm panromantic asexual, but generally say I'm queer
• Rom-coms are my comfort genre, both books and movies
• I live in Texas with my partner of 8 years and our two cats, Obi and Winston (swipe to slide 4 to see Winston)
• I'm neurodivergent (most likely auDHD)
• I've gotten back into manga collecting after being bullied out of it in high school
• Audiobooks have absolutely CHANGED my reading game. The trauma of the pandemic sadly obliterated my attention span for most physical books
• Most of what I read these days is queer in some way
A huge thanks to @foreverinastory and @djreadsbooks for putting this together!
Remember: whether you are out or not, know you are greatly loved and my account is a safe space. 🌈✨️ Bigots can't and won't win.

Best Books Read in September 2023
here are my favorite books I read in September
The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty
Wow, did this live up to the hype!! I strongly encourage the audiobook for reading this, the narrators were very playful. I love a good adventure!
Honorable Mentions:
Kindred: The Graphic Novel
Not quite as good as the original but still a quality adaptation. I was glad to read both within the same year
Kiss the Girl by Zoraida Cordova
The Little Mermaid (Disney version) but a pop star/rock star au. Some fantastic interpretations of the movie and super cute. Cheesy in all the right ways.
Even Though I Knew the End by CL Polk
I am very excited to read more of Polk's work after this. Mysterious and romantic and interesting.
American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang
This was a difficult but rewarding read. Yang's work is always a bit of a trust fall for me but always worth it.

Quick Review: Even Though I Knew the End by CL Polk Rating: 4/5
This was just fun! It reminded me of early Supernatural or The Angel of the Crows by Sarah Beth Durst. Paranormal and spooky and high stakes that feel low but with a lovely queer, feminist twist that warmed my lil gay heart. Perfect for whiling away a quiet morning.
