Wistfulness (34/34)
Tumblr media
“No, it’s okay,” James said, “I appreciate the intention…” He sighed, “I would love to hang out some more, but I need to get back before people start looking for me. It was good to meet you. And thank you for being such great company for my grandmother.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, the pleasure was all mine. And it was good to meet you, too. I’m going to stay here a little longer if you don’t mind.”
“No, please do,” James said. “Bye, Dante.”
“Bye, James.”

Did you make your icon? It looks super cute!
@coldlikesummerlemonade made it!!! They make papa louie icons.
Mine is Ivy as Frankenstien's monster's queer sister.
Ivy sells travel brochures at Travel Trout.
HC Time!!!
She's Autistic, Queer, and in high school, she was a top student at art history and geography. She also claims that a good abstract painting can improve even the dingiest of houses, and her niece, Maggie, also has a "spice tooth" like her (will pass up chicken nuggets but will eat hot sauce marinated girlled zucchini given the chance).

@coldlikesummerlemonade made these icons during spooky season. which is where I got my icon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: papa Louie characters as their halloween costumes.
First Column:
Papa Louie himself as a mummified chef. A bit Ancient Egyptian-inspired, and his hat and ascot are metallic gold and teal. He has a glowing red eye and a hand stretched out. He's gonna get you...Employed. That's pretty much how every game-eria starts.
Caleb as the titluar Candy Man from a horror film series. His costume depicts an African-American bee summoner with honey-based powers. Caleb himself is Blasian, and one of his Grandparents might be of South Asian ancestry. His right hand is a hook. I haven't seen that film, so my description may not be accurate if I got something wrong.
Quinn, Papa Louie's Lawyer and ex-wife of Timm, as a were-cat. She has claws and is scowling. In the games, you get a reward if you make her order ahead of time. She is a closer, and shows up at the end of the in-game day.
Trishna as an orange-themed magical fairy girl. She is a South Asian fashion designer and likes eating fruits, especially tangerines. She comes off as a bit rude, but means well. She has green eyeshadow here and has a wand. She is also Caleb's cousin.
Second Column:
Tohru, a gamer and manga fan dressed as a plumber and a homage to Mario. She is Japanese-American, and likes pink things. She loves playing video games, and her costume consists of overalls, a turtleneck, and a hat with her initial. She is quite jovial, and her pose reflects one mario is often depicted in.
Rudy, the Bassist for Sacrlett and the Shakers, a co-ed Ska-punk band in the papa louie series. He's usually depicted as an Asian-American human, but here he's a were-dinosaur. He has opalescent sunglasses and a color blocked shirt here. He is also smiling at the viewer. His spikes reflect the spiky hairdo as a human.
Xandra, a humanoid alien magical girl dressed as a clown. She and her fraternal twin brother, Xolo, are the rulers of the Kingdom of X and guard the Warp Coins. They landed near an elderly woman's house. The old lady, Edna, Adopted them both. Xandra has teal and hot pink hair with a rainbow top and yellow sleeves. She also is making a silly expression and her clown makeup has mismatched eyeshadow.
Rhonda is a truck driver from toastwood, and is dressed as a witch here. She's Afro-Latine, and likes churros. Her truck is named Josephine, though that name would fit the broomstick she's holding. In the Papa Louie Games, she met her lover, a biker named Rico, and they often travel together. She's laughing here, much often like a witch.
End of ID.]

If you haven't played a papa louie game, hopefully the image descriptions give you an other people who haven't played one a glimpse of what the lore would suggest.

todoroki shoto
we can all agree 1.0 was disgusting ugh
this one is surprisingly bland for someone whose family is the main thing rn in the manga and up coming seasons
could be better and coolrt :/
i mean i'm not a fashion designer so-
hagakure toru
WHO ALLOWED A FIFTEEN YEAR OLD TO RUN AROUND NAKED WHO
IF EDNA MODE COULD DO IT IN THE 80S THEN THE FUTURE CAN DON IT TOO
bakugou katsuki
i actually don’t really have a complaint
just give him better gauntlets
midoriya izuku
ugly ass first design tho 🤢
trying to not to give spoilers so-
mineta minoru
the only complaint for my least fav character would have to be why the hell are his pants round?
yaoyorozu momo

all they had to do was give her was shorts and a crop top/sports bra
and for winter bike shorts and a jacket
plus we can go with the mirio theory too 😒
like i like this show but so damn sexist

Astaire & Rogers Rewatch Part 9: The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle
• It’s 1939. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ partnership was box office gold and literally kept RKO from bankruptcy. But the magic has fizzled out and both actors are ready to move on. So for their last musical together you pick… a historical re-telling of another famous dancing duo?
This probably made sense at the time because the Castles were well known and who else would possibly play them in a biopic but the best-known dancing duo of the time. But it makes for a very blasé film.
• I’ll say this for The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle, the relationship between Astaire and Rogers’ characters is far more relaxed. They’re a unit for most of the film, which is a nice change. A lot of their personal friendship and connection seeps into their scenes, I think.
The relationship also feels like a glimpse at what a real-life partnership between Astaire and Rogers might’ve looked like. In her autobiography, she theorizes that she and Astaire might’ve become a serious item had she stayed in New York and they’d continued dating. But instead, she went off to Hollywood.
• Apparently, Irene Castle was a bit of a nightmare for Rogers to deal with. She was incredibly nit-picky about the clothes Rogers wore because she (Irene) was a fashion icon in the 1910s, and since this was a tribute to her and her beloved husband, she was intent on getting her way.
Irene was also upset with the casting of white actor Walter Brennan as her faithful servant, Walter, who in real life was black. Irene and Vernon were responsible for making African American music like ragtime and jazz popular among whites and traveled with a black orchestra so the whitewashing of Walter possibly felt extra insensitive.
• It’s likely that without the Castles there would have been no Astaire/Rogers. The Castles helped legitimize “close dancing,” which was previously seen as scandalous, because they were so classy and respectable. They moved dancing along and then Astaire and Rogers moved it even further.
• Our characters/actors: Vernon Castle (Fred Astaire), Irene Castle (Ginger Rogers), Walter (Walter Brennan), Maggie Sutton (Edna May Oliver)
• I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: don’t waste your time trying to make someone like you who is not interested and terrible. Just move on.
• Ah, the 1910s, when men wore suits to the beach.
• Is that dog the same one that Rogers had in Shall We Dance?
• Rescuing a dog at the beach is a special kind of meet-cute. Being harangued into spending the rest of the day with the other person’s overbearing family is less cute. Watching the woman you just met perform a weird af “Yama Man” routine while dressed as a clown is just freaky.
Vernon is rather high and mighty about being a “theatre actor” and Irene being an amateur when he’s the second comic in terrible slapstick shows. In fact, his comedy routine is horribly unfunny.
• Astaire does look rather right in the 1911 attire though and the peck on the cheek Vernon gives Irene is quite sweet.
Tumblr media
• I really enjoy how well they look together when practicing at her house.
• The lyrics “I can see myself doing the things I never could do, It’s true, But only when you’re in my arms” is fitting for Astaire, especially to sing to Rogers.
• The kiss they share after getting engaged is sweeter than the kiss in Carefree. Fight me.
Tumblr media
• I like how naturally she reaches for his hand and the way his thumb strokes her fingers. There’s a lot of quiet intimacy between them in this film.
• They really do a great job with the audition dance. You can see Astaire and Rogers themselves peek through when he spins her a few times. Their faces are just lit up. Home movies from this dance show they were having a pretty fun time.
Tumblr media
• The idea that no one would pay money to see a man dance with his own wife is ludicrous. Obviously, the Castles were a successful married dancing team. But more than that, you’re telling me that if Astaire and Rogers were married irl no one would want to see them dance together?
• I like how when asked whose idea it is that they dance together, they respond in unison, “Ours,” and then glance at each other. She turns back to the proprietor right after but he keeps gazing at her adoringly.
• The actress Edna May Oliver plays Maggie Sutton but all I can ever think of when I see her is Lady Catherine de Bourgh, whom she played in the 1940 Pride & Prejudice film.
Fun fact: The Castles real-life manager was an openly out lesbian named Elizabeth Marbury. One guess why that isn’t included in this 1939 film.
• The way Vernon (Astaire) watches her while she opens the present is very affectionate and loving.
• “Dance with me” is a line that’s repeated a few times in this film and it’s lovely.
• The Castle Walk is the move they invent to dance quietly and it was all the rage. By the time the Castles returned to New York the following year, they were massive celebrities. As we see in the dance montage, they popularized many forms of dance including the tango and foxtrot.
Speaking of the tango, Astaire gives Rogers a few flirtatious up and down looks during that dance.
• The dances in this film are all based on the Castles’ dances so it’s not the same as when Astaire rigorously choreographed routines specifically for himself and Rogers. However, they still manage to make the dances engaging and uniquely theirs.
• In “The Maxixe” dance, you can again see Astaire and Rogers as themselves peek through the acting as they grin at each other in a familiar way and he watches her appreciatively during some of the moves.
• While on the train, they sit side by side and his arm is looped through hers so his hand can rest atop hers. Sweet domesticity that we rarely get to see between Astaire and Rogers’ characters.
Tumblr media
• When he explains to their agent that they want to slow down, he starts out by saying, “We’re in love…” Rogers turns to look at him and doesn’t look away for several seconds.
• Astaire gives a particularly athletic performance for the Royal Flying Corp. There are a lot of jumps and energetic moves and he nails them all.
• Irene was right that Vernon would make a good soldier. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre in 1917 and was later promoted to captain.
Tumblr media
• Their dance when he’s in his uniform is another lovely duet (you can see some rare behind the scene footage above). It’s not like anything in their previous films, particularly because it is much more demur. But there are several gorgeous moments such as when he’s looking at her and she turns to face him and smiles softly. There’s also a stunning part where he lifts her from behind using only their connected hands and she leans back into his chest, laying her head on his shoulder.
Tumblr media
(gif credit)
• Vernon’s deadly crash was only deadly to him. The student pilot in the plane wasn’t seriously injured and neither was the pilot in the other plane. Vernon was 30 years old.
• In case it’s unclear, Vernon gave a list of songs for the orchestra to play and they are all songs that were meaningful to him and Irene. The ones we hear are: “By the Beautiful Sea,” which was playing the day they met, “By the Light of the Silvery Moon,” which he danced to at the train station, and “Only When You're in My Arms,” which he sang to her before proposing.
• And so the Astaire/Rogers partnership at RKO comes to an end as their characters dreamily dance into the horizon together. But don’t worry. Thanks to Gene Kelly’s broken ankle and Judy Garland’s unavailability, we’ll get to see Astaire and Rogers on screen together one last time. The Barkleys of Broadway is next and last.

My Top 10 Favourite Horror Films of 2020
Every January, most people who review or talk about movies on YouTube tend to piece together a Top 10 list of their favourite movies from the year prior. In order to stand out from the crowd (and also because I was too lazy to do this sooner), I decided to wait until March, by which time most YouTubers aren’t really talking about movies from 2020 anymore.
Tumblr media
I know what you’re thinking: sounds kinda stupid – why would anybody care about a Top 10 list of the best movies of 2020…THREE months into the new year!? Well, as you’ve likely heard, 2020 was a year like no other, and as result of the ongoing global pandemic, movie release dates from 2020 were pushed back months, sometimes multiple times. Some films that were supposed to be released last year didn’t arrive until 2021, even though they’re officially considered “2020 films,” according to their profiles on websites like IMBD and Letterboxd.
And so, some of these so-called “2020 films” were not available (at least to me) until only recently, such as Saint Maud or The Dark and the Wicked. I feel like I’ve now had a chance to see almost all of the horror films I’ve wanted to see from last year. In this video, if you care to stick around, I will share with you my Top 10 favourite horror films of 2020. So, here we go…
#10/ The Dark and the Wicked:
A sister and brother return to the family homestead where their father is slowly dying and their mother is understandably distraught but also disturbed and distant. The siblings soon realize that something evil has invaded their family home as they are terrorized by whatever is slowly killing their father. Directed by the same guy behind 2008’s The Strangers, The Dark and the Wicked is at times bleak and unsettling, and it does a good job at keeping you intrigued in this family’s unnerving conflict. However, it felt a bit rushed and undeveloped at other times, and its ending left me somewhat unsatisfied.
Tumblr media
#9/ Relic:
Soon after Kay and her daughter Sam return to their remote family home following the disappearance of the family matriarch, the widowed Edna, they discover that something sinister has taken hold of both Edna and the house itself. Although Relic – which was co-produced by Jake Gyllenhaal and marked the feature directorial debut for Natalie Erika James – isn’t exactly offering up any enticing twists or salacious gore, or even a original concept for that matter, it relies on evoking dread and building tension to compel its audience to stay invested until the bitter end.
Tumblr media
#8/ Amulet:
Taking its sweet time to unravel, Amulet is centered around Tomaz, an ex-soldier who is now homeless but is offered a place to stay at a decaying house in London, which is inhabited by a beautiful young woman named Magda and her dying mother. As the story moves along, we see that Tomaz is starting to develop feelings for Magda, who seems a bit…off. His feelings for her don’t wane even after Tomaz discovers that there’s something insidious going on in the attic of the house, where Magda’s mother is seemingly imprisoned. Toss in a suspicious nun and you’ve got yourself a creepy little film that seems to have fallen between the cracks.
Tumblr media
#7/ The Beach House:
One might argue that not a lot actually happens in The Beach House and that the payoff isn’t worth the investment, but if you go into this film with an open mind and zero expectations, you should at least be satisfied. Two troubled college students head to a deserted beach getaway to spend some time together, but end up struggling to survive alongside some unexpected guests as a mysterious infection disrupts their holiday. Although it is a slow build up to the film’s climax, it is a tense and intriguing ride along the way, as a series of unsettling events give way to an apocalyptic episode that feels almost like a throwback to the sci-fi films of the 1950s. Making his feature film directorial debut, Jeffrey A. Brown elicits with The Beach House those brooding existential thoughts that lay dormant in the deep boroughs of our minds.
Tumblr media
#6/ The Invisible Man:
There’s always an elevated risk when making a modern film based on an old story that has already been told through cinema numerous times before. The last time H.G. Wells’ 1897 novel The Invisible Man had been adapted by Hollywood was in 2000’s Hollow Man, which was panned by critics despite making a sizeable profit. The 2020 adaptation is far superior and is perhaps the best adaptation of Wells’ classic in any medium. Elizabeth Moss gives a stellar performance that draws real emotion, so that we agonize alongside her as she is essentially haunted by a relentless ghost hellbent on controlling every aspect of her life. We live in an era when technology has advanced enough to bring this 124-year-old story to life like never before, while a polished script and an exceptional lead performance gives The Invisible Man a deeper level of emotion and terror.
Tumblr media
#5/ Saint Maud:
For most of Saint Maud it is unclear whether certain experiences are actually happening in reality for the main character or if it’s all simply in her head, as some sort of mental breakdown caused by a work-related tragedy. Maud is a young hospice nurse and a newly-converted Roman Catholic who suddenly becomes obsessed with “saving the soul” of the woman she is currently taking care of, Amanda, a hedonistic dancer with a chronic illness. Maud’s behaviour worsens, as does her mental state, as horrific scenes and visions make us question if she’s actually losing her mind or experiencing something beyond this world. Saint Maud is an A24 feature by the way, so that should be enough to know what you’re getting here in terms of quality.
Tumblr media
#4/ The Lodge:
Isolation is often embraced as a way to pad a horror film’s fear factor, and it works especially here in The Lodge, as a soon-to-be stepmom becomes stranded at a remote holiday home in the middle of winter with her fiance’s two children. The kids begin to untangle the dark past of their stepmom-to-be and a series of disturbing events transpire as their hope for survival fades. The Lodge is a dreary, atmospheric slow burn that leaves you somewhat unsettled. With its wintry backdrop, stylish sequences, and almost claustrophobic dread, the film doesn’t ever allow its audience to feel at ease for long, insisting that an underlying foreboding remain intact throughout. Although I found the ending somewhat disappointing, I immediately began to concoct a possible prequel that would delve into the backstory of the film’s lead character. One can hope.
Tumblr media
#3/ Host:
It’s increasingly difficult to be innovative and original when it comes to horror films these days, especially in the particular genre of so-called “found footage.” Rob Savage’s Host, however, comes off as something different, setting itself apart from most films in this realm in various ways. It centers around six friends who hold a séance via Zoom during a COVID lockdown, guided (at first) by a medium they hired. The séance then takes a dark turn and things soon escalate into madness. Sure, there are elements in Host that are prevalent in numerous horror films, but it uses a modern and topical way to implement them, while also refusing to overstay its welcome by cueing the credits less than an hour in. Overall, this film’s popcorn-and-Saturday-night-movie fun factor is why it ranks so high on this list.
Tumblr media
#2/ Possessor:
It’s always a treat to come across an original idea, especially when it’s within the horror realm, and Possessor is certainly unlike anything else I’ve seen in awhile. Andrea Riseborough plays an elite corporate assassin who uses brain-implant technology to take control over other people’s bodies in order to kill high profile targets, though with every mission she gets further and further away from her true self. With her latest possession, she becomes trapped in the mind of a man who threatens to obliterate her for good. It is a provocative vision by director-writer Brandon Cronenberg, who just so happens to be the son of legendary Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg, and it serves as a disturbing piece of dystopian fiction that is even more frightening because it isn’t too far beyond belief.
Tumblr media
And because everyone else is doing it, here are five honorable mentions that narrowly missed the list:
- The Call
- Color Out of Space
- Don’t Listen
- The Mortuary Collection
- Porno
#1/ His House:
In addition to its emotional storytelling and genuine moments of terror, His House – from first-time director Remi Weekes – sheds a light on the plight of refugees in a way that feels both respectful and empathetic. After a Sudanese couple make a harrowing escape from their war-torn homeland, they are granted asylum in England, where they struggle to adjust and fit in. They are assigned a shabby house on the outskirts of London, where the couple begin to experience terrifying and unexplainable events. His House is built around a fresh concept, two fantastic leads, and some truly haunting imagery, and I wish that more horror directors would put as much effort into quality filmmaking as Weekes did here. If this is his first venture into feature filmmaking, I am excited to see what his future has in store.

Creator tag game
I was double tagged by two wonderful friends and writers, so thank you @tessiete and @tree-scapes for tagging me! I apologise for the time it took me to answer
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
This is going to be hard! I have written 36 fics including 31 drabbles for october so choosing will not be easy T.T
Let’s start with those drabbles.
Silence lay steadily,  Spirits of the past, (Rating T, both Gen and focused on Obi Wan Kenobi) may be two of my favourite drabbles i have ever written in the series. The first prompt was graveyard and it inspired me so much! It was also my first time digging into the psyche of Ben Kenobi during those years on Tatooine. I loved exploring Obi Wan loneliness but also his identity as a “ghost’ because how much this identity fits Obi Wan if we think about it one moment.
Not only on Tatooine where he is the ghost of a culture that has been eradicated from the galaxy, but also during his whole life? Star Wars material always had a knack to make Obi Wan stories about somebody other than him (Jedi Apprentice? It’s much more about Qui Gon’s journey than Oi Wan, same in Master and Apprentice, or even in the movies where he is at the heart of a story that is not HIS). There is something truly heartbreaking about that. Tatooine is also the perfect place to dig into more philosophical considerations away from the sound and fury of the galaxy.
No one will be aware of how many kisses there has been. (Rating : Gen, QuiObi) I had not planned to write this modern AU. Modern AU are not my favourite but this one wouldn’t leave my mind and was sparked by reminisecence of my classics studies. I loved greek and latin and this fic may have the fic I had the most fun writing ever. It basically wrote itself and exploring the dynamic between fussy latin teacher Obi and laidback Ancient Greek teacher Qui was a delight. It’s as if these langages were made for both characters.
As much as I love fake dating, i have a thing for established relationship where the spark of the begining is now a steady flame that warms the characters every day, kept alight by mutual admiration, care, friendship, respect and love. Is this too idealistic? Maybe. But let me dream.
The choice to write from the students POV and take the readers for a ride along with their shenanigans is something i will never regret.
Kin to Sorrow (Rating T, QuiObi) is my Mortis fix-it fic. Also written for the QuiObi backwards bigbang of 2020 this is a very personal fic for some reason. It is very melancholic and bittersweet. @tessiete introduced me to Edna St Vincent Millay’s poetry and i can’t thank her enough. Her poetry is woven through the entire fic like an haunting refrain. Like those whispers that you can only hear when you take a step back from just being in the day-to-day.
I will say this again, nothing makes my hackles rise faster than writers who try to make Obi Wan story about someone else, especially Anakin. Obi Wan had to watch every thing he held dear being torn in the most violent way from his side : his jedi family, Qui Gon, Anakin, Padme, Satine, everything. And yet when the writers bring back Qui Gon for three minutes it’s only about Anakin again? Sorry but no. This won’t do.
This fic was born from the visceral need of having Obi Wan be acknowledged for who he is, to be SEEN. He may be no chosen one but in my eyes that makes him all the more precious. How many of us can claim to be chosen? A very precious few if at all, does that mean that our stories don’t deserve to be told? I am getting philosphical again, but ancient languages, poetry and philosophy are my love and jam.
Hold me like you mean it (Rating T, QuiObi) is a gift fic for the most lovely @kyber-erso. She wanted hugs and I delivered. I love this fic. It was an incredible opportunity to study Qui Gon and Obi Wan’s relationship evolution through vignettes of time. I love hugs, and I think they are very underrated (they are even more precious these days when you can’t kiss or hold hand or whatever other traditional way affection is shown). It is because I’m ace? Maybe. But hugs and cuddles have always been in my opinion one of the supreme show of love and affection be it romantic and platonic.
Writing this fic, I was surprised to see how many different types of hugs there was! And most of them have a name! A hug can say so many different things and can be done in so many different way, but the feeling of warmth and love is something that all hugs convey one way or another. This is what i tried to convey through the fic : the way Qui Gon and Obi Wan love for each other expressed itself throughout their relationship as it grew and changed.
Like a Spell over you (Rating Gen, QuiObi) Can sexy time be Gen rated? This is the crucial question that gave birth to this fic. I am no smut lover and will skip it most of the time. But I also love to write Obi Wan and Qui Gon just being completly bessoted and in awe of the other. As always this is way more soft than spicy but i love it.
Tagging but no pressure at all @punkass-jedi, @acciopudding, @kyber-erso, @lieutenantmittens, @antheiasilva

You've been visited by the random OC question fairy! :D ~☆
Happy International Women's Day! What is your OC's relationship with being a woman? How has being female affected their upbringing and/or their past? How does being female affect their actions, thoughts, and relationships with others, if at all?
Hi OC Questions Fairy!
I’m gonna answer this for all of my female OCs so they each get a little attention so this might take a minute hahaha With Rei, it was never so much of an issue of being a woman than it was an issue of what was expected of her as a woman. Her parents had a very specific vision in mind for the type of life they wanted for her that involved the usual “get married, have babies, be a housewife” route. And while Rei has always yearned to be a wife and a mother, she also has always yearned to be a ninja. The opposition of her family about her becoming a ninja, however, led her to believe that she could not do both and for a long time she suppressed her desire for domesticity in order to focus entirely on her career.  Which is also telling of Rei’s mother, Hana. She had sort of an opposite experience in that her family wanted her to become a ninja and take advantage of the Yamanaka’s kekkei genkai, the mind transfer technique, but Hana was not fit for becoming a ninja. Every time she tried to use the family jutsu, she would get splitting migraines. She never even wanted to become a ninja in the first place, however, and feels right at home fulfilling her expected gender roles.  Kakashi’s mother, Aijo, never really played by the rules when it came to femininity. She was always kind of feral and wild, she didn’t have any reservations about getting down and dirty in her work.  Rei’s grandmother, Teiko, had very much the same path as Rei. Her family had no interest in shinobi whatsoever, but Teiko had a gift and she was drawn to ninja work. She also kind of defied what was expected of her for a really long time and tried to balance both a ninja career and being a mother but she ultimately had to make a sacrifice and choose her family over everything else.  Teiko’s old teammates, Komori and Edna, have interesting relationships with their womanhood. Komori is kind of eccentric and materialistic in a way. She has a twin brother, Rojin, and together they run the local antiques shop. She never really felt like she was not on equal footing compared to her brother, but she also worked very hard to become a solid ninja. She was ready to give it up in a heartbeat in order to be the best mother she could to her children, though. Edna is the type who loves being a woman and engaging in things that are deemed “womanly.” Though she, too, was a fearsome ninja, she is also an expert in fashion and even runs the local high-end kimono shop. She’s the type who just absolutely revels in everything that she’s allowed to do and expected to do as a woman and she does those things with utmost confidence.  Komori’s granddaughter, Suisen, struggles with not just womanhood but existing in a body in general. She deals with an eating disorder and therefore has struggled a lot with body image, peer pressure, and a sense of control, all of which are not exclusively feminine issues but are definitely influenced by those issues.  Edna has two granddaughters, Sefure and Arai, who could not be more different. Sefure is far more feminine than her younger sister, but at a price. She has adopted that maternal instinct of wanting to provide for her sister, while Arai has the instinct to protect. In turn, Sefure has learned to use her womanhood and sex appeal for a source of income in order to support her sister, who instead turns to shinobi work and yearns to prove herself as strong and capable so that she can create a better life for the two of them.  Rei’s teammate and best friend, Sekkachi, has a similar issue to Rei in that she has certain expectations pinned on her by her family. Sekkachi wants nothing to do with them, though. She refuses to become the doting wife and mother--it’s just not in her blood. She is, instead, the strong, independent woman type but with a fault. She wants to have companionship but she struggles with accepting others into her life and allowing herself to be vulnerable. She’s built up an impenetrable wall and keeps up this facade of being unaffected and aloof. And while we’re on the subject of her and womanhood, it’s also important to note how significant woman are to her as a lesbian, so despite her bluntness and her independence, she of course tries her best to support women (even if sometimes her support seems like the opposite, in terms of her and Rei’s relationship where they butt heads constantly and she tends to criticize Rei’s life choices once and a while. All in all, she’s not perfect.)  Rei’s other teammate and childhood best friend, Naru, definitely also revelled in her femininity much like Edna and Sefure do. Naru has charm, she’s popular, and she always knows everyone’s business because she feels like she has a responsibility to be a nexus of information. She’s bubbly and bright but also knows how to use her feminine charm to her own benefit, i.e. manipulation and genjutsu.  Rei, Sekkachi, and Naru’s sensei is Chikara, a former dancer turned shinobi. Chikara has a very vast knowledge of what it means to be a woman in this profession but rather than fight against that inequality, she teaches her students how to use that to their advantage. She taught her students choreographed dance routines and as a team, they created an entire ensemble alter ego of rave dancers to perform at a local club where many enemy ninja are often attracted so that in this way, the girls essentially weaponize their femininity in order to lure criminals to their deaths.  And on the subject of weaponizing femininity, none do this better than Tenshi. While she also exemplifies some of the negative social aspects of being a woman such as sexualization and competition, she uses her sex appeal to lure men so that she can get what she wants. And often times what she wants are eyeballs. Specifically Sharingan. Because she works for Danzo. This is why she is currently in jail.  Mikazuki doesn’t really feel very tied to her identity as a woman, I don’t think? She’s very spiritual and while she’s also very feminine in the way she presents herself, as well as demure and shy, I don’t think she really focuses much on the fact that she’s a woman. I know in terms of sexuality, none of it matters to her one bit. She’s more concerned with what type of person you are than what gender you are, though she definitely is aware of the inherent inequality of being a woman. After all, she’s in this shinobi business, too, which doesn’t really let you forget about that.  In terms of Sekkachi’s family, her grandmother Kohai’s entire backstory hinges on her womanhood. She migrated to the Konoha because she dared to practice a sense of agency over her female existence in terminating an unwanted pregnancy, which her family disowned her for. She knew that she made the right decision for herself, however, and went on to carry that with a sense of self-acceptance--as well as a reclamation of the term fumeiyo, which means dishonor, and was the surname she chose for herself when she branched out on her own.  Sekkachi’s cousin, Tenjikubotan, is another woman who soaks up all the advantages of her womanhood. She behaves like a socialite and enjoys the company of attractive men, as well as making herself attractive for them.  Tenjikubotan’s younger sister, Roru, is far less concerned with appearances. She just wants to follow in her cousin Sekkachi’s footsteps and become a badass ninja. She isn’t entirely concerned with what effect her womanhood might have on her, which perhaps is merely a positive sign that her much younger generation is making strides toward gender equality in the shinobi world.  While these two are more minor characters, I really want to include Amai and Hiretsuna, as well. Amai is very much invested in her womanhood and she enjoys engaging in the cute and the feminine. She is a waitress at the local dango shop and loves pink and sweet things and cute animals. She just wants to exist as something bright and positive and to make people smile. Hiretsuna is far more subtle in her femininity, but is feminine nonetheless. She works reception at the hospital and definitely engages in the local gossip and fantasizing about attractive men, even if it’s far more fairytale-esque and fluffy than sexual.  Sosei and Seiiku are middle-aged twins who work in the hospital and represent the significance of mental and physical/reproductive health for everyone but especially women. Sosei works in the mental health ward as a leader for group therapy and inpatient treatment, a role that she takes very seriously. She is passionate about mental health and the inherent sense of healing that comes from community and communication. Her sister, Seiiku, is the head of the maternity ward and is very passionate about reproduction, pregnancy, childbirth. She has a very holistic, female empowerment approach with an emphasis on expecting mothers taking charge of their own birthing experience.
Seiiku’s star pupil is Tanjo, who had a really interesting struggle with accepting her womanhood. She was initially an enemy ninja sent to Konoha to gain intel but her mission was quickly sidetracked when she began experiencing severe abdominal pains and had to be rushed to the hospital where she discovered she was in labor and she didn’t even know she was pregnant.* This startling and life-changing incident at first left her reeling and with very little sense of direction but she decided to take charge of her own life after this and train to become a midwife herself as a way to regain control over a situation in which she had none. She is very much supportive but also a tough-love type of woman who went through a very traumatic experience but came out the other side better for it and having found a true passion in helping other women and empowering them the way that she wished she had felt when she gave birth.  *This whole chapter originally began as a gag based on the fact that Kakashi Hatake’s English voice actor, Dave Wittenberg, also narrated I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant. The characters and plot points from this chapter, however, expanded to something far more developed so now here we are.  I have more characters that I could speak on on this because about ninety percent of my OCs are women but this is already getting really long and I feel like there’s a pattern in the way I write female characters so many of them will probably sound the same in terms of the way they approach womanhood and the influence that being a woman has on them. I think this is a pretty well-rounded group to have answered this for, though. Thank you for asking!

What do u like about Skinner and Lovejoy?
-cracks knuckles to go on a rant- jk jk Well, to keep it as short as I can, when it comes to Skinner, I think Edna said it best in Grade School Confidential: “There’s an innocence about you that can be quite charming.” I love that statement, and I think it fits pretty well with how I feel about him. But what sets him apart from other characters with that kind of trait (like Dr Nick for example), I’m attracted to his antics as a school principal dealing with leading the worst school in the district and his different relationships with the students and other staff members plus his mom and boss. I think the writers in the earlier seasons did a great job of rounding out his character to be an authoritative figure with 0 tolerance as well as a father figure in some of his more softer episodes. He’s a character that has a lot of different faces when it comes to which character he interacts with, and I find that realistic. I also just think he’s sexy As for Lovejoy, it’s most of the same in that he’s a well rounded character who again puts on a different face depending on where he is (either the church or a school fundraiser) or which character he’s speaking to (Ned vs anyone else). I also just love the juxtaposition of his position as a pastor who is supposed to love and lead all his people, but Ned’s just worn him down over the years and he’s the same working stiff as the rest of us. His characterization throughout the seasons reminds me a lot about my own often-changing feelings with religion and I find him relatable too. He’s got some great one-liners, and I find it charming he’s got such a fun hobby as trains.

...sighs. Iori needs some friends (or not friends.) So--!
Tumblr media
Here’s a Relationship Plotting Ad! Liking this post allows you to:
Come into my askbox at will unprompted (and vice versa)
Write starters any time (and vice versa)
Plot with me via IM or other form of communication (and vice versa)
Some of Iori’s core personality traits are as follows:
Brilliant, analytical and calculating
Blunt and closed-off
Loyal; (and if you’ve earned that loyalty, he warms up to you a bit)
Stubborn, competitive and fearless
Questionable moral boundaries in regards to research
Surprisingly self-sacrificing
Reclusive, and a workaholic
Reluctantly helpful
Hides all that trauma under being constantly busy
An incredible willpower, which is nigh unshakable. His body will give out long before his mind ever will
Ultimately, there’s one hell of a thick wall you need to get through in order for Iori to trust you, and it takes even longer for him to open about himself.
So where can you find him? And what kind of relationship can you develop with him? Some examples are below!
Business
Iori runs a specialty clothing store called Dressed to Kill, which specializes in unorthodox clothing requests. It gained fame in [Redacted] for making quality and durable clothes for special uses and custom fittings for people who couldn’t fit into standard human sizes. Y’know, like if Edna Mode had a shop in Spirale
He can also create pieces from your character’s canon, provided with references
Iori’s stance is mostly neutral-aligned, and doesn’t ask questions.
Research
Trained as a scientist since he was a child, Iori is constantly studying the city of Spirale (and [Redacted] before it) to gain a better understanding of where he is. He also has a running database of information from various people, cultures and species of the island, though most of it was lost in the move and is half-complete (he’s been in these kind of environments for almost four years, and met a lot of people.)
Iori, personally, gets along with students and professors, and loves to learn new things--especially if it pertains to clothes, fibers, or crafting.
Got science to do? He’ll happily help.
Rivals
As much as he likes to collaborate, when met with resistance, the competitive streak in Iori fires up (and it’s very hard to extinguish.) Rival craftspeople and scientists put him into overdrive, and at the opportunity to crush you, he will.
This... goes into minor things too, like games and competitions.
This one is tricky; most of Iori’s relationships start out this way, and usually end in a mutual respect (or--the desired FRIENDSHIP!) And if you beat him at his own game, he’s pretty impressed.
Leisure
Ha, funny.
In all seriousness, Iori does take breaks sometimes (usually if kicked out by his own staff for working too much) and can be found in places like cafes, arcades, at the Spirale University or the Fibonacci Institute of Science Technology Magic and Energy.
Sometimes he likes going to the beach in the evenings, when the sun is down. He doesn’t swim, but he’ll make ridiculous sand sculptures.
You might find him in random places with a sketchbook or a notebook, taking field notes for either fashion or his growing encyclopedia of Spirale (and Radial Island in general)
...That’s all I can think of for now! It’s a long list, sorry.
tl;dr: Iori’s brilliant, but closed off, and I want him to open up a bit.
Thank you for reading, and I hope to RP with you!

Character Introduction
Anthony “Tony” Rydinger
Name: Anthony “Tony” Rydinger
Character: Tony Rydinger from The Incredibles
Age: 24
Occupation: Student at PU and Employee at Mode’s
Degree: Physical Education
Faceclaim: Aaron Taylor-Johnson
+ Friendly, Kind, Honest
- Shy, Awkward, Oblivious
Tony is a social guy who struck it lucky when it came to being a charismatic guy that who always found it easy to speak to people. He never understood why he was one of those kids in school/university that was classed as ‘popular’ but was too polite to ever say to anyone about it.
He’s got a lot of time for people and is welcoming enough to make sure than no one would feel left out and is always willing to help someone out if they needed help.
Athletic af - Tony’s degree is in physical education at PU so it’s not uncommon to see him in the gym or running around Andromeda to keep his fitness at its peak
Not a ladies guy at all. It’s almost painful watching him and he’s completely oblivious to anyone interested in him. He’s just never been a ladies guy.
He was a waiter at his parents restaurant called ‘The Happy Platter’ but they decided to sell up the restaurant and go travelling, something that Tony 100% supported when they approached him with the discussion
When his parents sold their restaurant, they paid off their mortgage and left their house in Tonys hands while they went travelling. That way they didn’t have to worry about their son struggling to keep a roof over his head while they were away jet-setting. Tony lives alone but often has friends over to socialise and chill out.
Got a dog since he was getting lonely living in his house alone - he’s called Bert.
He now works at Mode’s to help pay any excess fees he has and any supplies he needs for his course. He had no idea the Parr siblings worked there until he handed in his application and Edna hired him on the spot since the shop was getting so busy.
Tony gets on well with Edna, he thinks she’s a genius in what she does but also finds the woman absolutely hilarious due to the fact she has no filter and speaks her mind. He has a lot of respect for her and sees her like a bit of an aunt to him since she so willingly took him under her wing and gave him a job - though he could do without the teasing from Edna about his crush. That woman is not subtle.
He’s an intelligent guy and that often gets overlooked thanks to people pigeonholing him into the ‘dumb jock’ stereotype. Tony reads up on biology and medicine to make sure he’s as knowledgeable as possible for his degree.
Will add to this as I go along but I wanted to do a quick intro for Tony. If anyone would be up for plotting, please like this or drop me a message :)

Bully/Canis Canem Edit self insert OC
So I was thinking to myself "what would life be like if I went to Bullworth Academy?" And I made an OC sheet for myself to fill out as a guide
Short bio: Moved to Bullworth from Texas, and loves how cold it is there. All the other students complain when summer comes because its "soooo hot" and she's just like ".... Bitch, its only 80 degrees???" Bullworth accepted her due to her grades and good record, and because they needed to enroll a disabled student to qualify for some extra funding (and the good press brought in a ton of donations for such a "charitable act" on the school's behalf). Being a token at Bullworth has some perks: you get a dorm room all to yourself, and you can go off campus for lunch since Lunchlady Edna's cuisine doesn't fit your dietary needs. But it also means you have to go to a school that pretends to care about your condition, and that treats you as poorly as everyone else there. Mr. Hattrick refuses to let her leave class to get water more than once, and she usually passes out due to her condition after his class. And a lot of students like to mess with her service dog, which fucks up her day (can't go anywhere if the dog that's meant to accompany you was fed a ton of laxatives by a certain scar-faced twat). Luckily she's friends with Russell, so all she has to do is ask him to deal with whoever is giving her problems.
Clique Relationships:
Nerds: She hangs out with them pretty often. She's not a G&G player, but she likes to watch the others play and read their lore guides. She's also the best one to go to when you need English tutoring, so she helps run study sessions at the library. Earnest can sometimes be a bit creepy (since she's one of the two girls at Bullworth/on Earth that he regularly hangs out with), but she rebuffs him by being as bluntly perverted as possible; "No Earnest, I'm not the type to kiss on the first date. I prefer to hook my partner to a car battery and see which one of us burns out first."
Greasers: She's got an Italian-American family, so these guys are basically cousins to her. She doesn't know much about modifying bikes, but she's happy to help with paint jobs. The Greasers love her service dog, and even made her a little leather jacket to match the rest of the crew. They tend to ask her for advice since she's "a brain and a good listener," so she's up to date whenever Johnny gets cheated on and Peanut's very obvious crush on him.
Preps: Don't notice her that much. She's got a wealthy aunt, but it's not the same level as Derby or Pinkie having rich mommies and daddies you know? Sometimes when their elitist attitudes get to be too much, she'll sneak into their dorm and pour pig's blood into their laundry in the morning (she has to wake up earlier, but it's worth it to know they can't just buy new clothes before class)
Bullies: When she first came to Bullworth, they hassled her a lot. But when Russell walked up to her, about to demand her lunch money, he saw her service dog and got puppy eyes himself. "YOU HAVE A PUPPY! Russell is your friend now. Can Russell pet your puppy?" Ever since then, Russell's declared her off-limits to the rest of the bullies. She tutors him in English, and they're surprisingly close.
Jocks: She's chubby and her disability keeps her from doing most sports, so they don't like her very much. She isn't able to do much at the school gym, but she does archery on the weekends at a local range. One time Yuri and Ted saw her there and did a fucking triple take. She and Yuri are kind of friendly, since she studies Russian and he sometimes likes to speak his home language.
Townies: She first met them when she bought a bag of weed off of Edgar. They're chill with each other, and Edgar usually gives her a few discount dime bags in exchange for playing with her dog for a bit. She has a crush on him but she's too much of a wuss to admit she has feelings for someone She and Zoe hang out sometimes (she's one of the few people at Bullworth in Zoe's mind that arent totally fake) and play video games.
Character Relationships:
Jimmy- She and Jimmy are friendly. They play video games a lot, and sometimes he pays her to do his homework if he's too busy.
Pete- Close friends (even though Gary teases Pete about her being his girlfriend). They have their own little 2-person book club and lend movies to each other; she has a collection of obscure horror films and shot-on-shitteo flicks and they make fun of them together. They sometimes cook together; Bella has a little kitchen in her dorm and Pete's quite the gourmand.
Gary- She hates whenever he messes with her dog, but always manages to find a way to get revenge (the last time he snuck some laxatives in Uno's food, she collected all the shit left behind and gave Gary's dorm a new 'paint job' with it). He doesn't do pranks like that on her that often now, but he'll tease her a lot. She's not that expressive so it's hard to get a rise out of her, but the challenge is what makes it fun. Weirdly enough, they CAN be friendly sometimes. He's the only person who likes true crime videos as much as her and he likes the super gory horror films she has in her room, so occasionally they'll hang out together. One time after class, Mandy was teasing her about her weight and she decided to out bully her; she found as much dirt on Mandy as possible and published everything in the school newsletter (which is also delivered to parents, Mandy's included). Bella gave Mandy a copy of the newsletter personally, and Mandy ran off in tears. It felt nice to indulge in her vindictive side, but she felt a bit awkward when she noticed Gary was really..excited by how much she had made Mandy cry.

👀 ooooh would you answer all the salty questions?? but I understand if that's too much, in that case 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 13, 16, 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27
Hell yeah I’ll do all the salt asks!! Some answers may get repetitive tho1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
H/evelyn, E/lastigale B/oddy, S/ynlet... honestly anything that isn’t like, hinted at in canon
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
The only one that comes to mind is Bob and Lucius, but even then I don’t know how popular that is
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
Sure have! I got sick of literally everyone in the fandom at one point and unfollowed everyone save for the people in the Syndrome discord
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
All the ships from question 1, but mostly H/evelyn, E/lastigale, and S/ynlet. The first two ships are shipped by probably... 4/5th of the entire fandom with E/lastigale probably making up most of that. Idk how popular S/ynlet is anymore though, but it was big back during the original movie. Either way, all of those ships squick me out in one way or another
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
I used to think E/velage or whatver the fuck the ship name is was really cute and had an interesting dynamic with Mirage hopping from one rich guy to the next, but as I’ve said before, most (read: all) people who ship it seem to tend to ship it out of... spite? because they hate the idea of Mirage being with Buddy? To the point of butchering their characters in order to make the ship seem as horrible as possible? I mean I know I have my own petty reasons for not necessarily enjoying Mirage and Buddy together but jeez...
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
I wouldn’t say I enjoy it, nor did I hate it since I don’t invest time into canon x canon ships at all, but Hardenshipping is pretty cute.
7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?
Used to like the idea of critical portions of fandom but I don’t think I have to finish this sentence.
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?
Wouldn’t hardly call it an anon, and also hardly wouldn’t call it hate but last week or so I got someone from the i/ncredibles server I left messaging me on anon (even though they said who they were?) dishing out some pretty lame insults for no reason since I haven’t talked to em in a month so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
E/velyn. Like I said last time, she’s a disgrace for what the series stands for. Though I will unashamedly admit that most of that belief is due to bias because I wouldn’t be any more than neutral to her if her fanbase knew how to shut the fuck up. I usually make it a point not to be a hypocrite like that but I’ve gotten to the point that I really don’t care.
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
I/ncredibles 2 doesn’t exist to me, does that count?
11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
For some reason, that fandom hates well developed villains? Because he does... villainous things? I dunno. I’d say that just means more Buddy for me, but sometimes I wonder how I survive on his lack of content.
12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
I don’t really watch many things with arcs, so no
13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
This entire blog is an unpopular opinion about Buddy
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
That’s not my fucking fandom
12. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
Well there’s no... manga but I’ll count the comics and books instead. Anyway the way Buddy’s treated, especially in the books like the reason he can’t be a hero is because he doesn’t have powers is really fucking cruel.
13. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
I have a lot of feelings on this
also @ Brad Bird make Kandrome canon
14. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…
I mean... I have a lot of au ideas sure, but I wouldn’t change actual canon for them. Hell, I’m actually conflicted on if Buddy should have lived if I had the power to change that
15. Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?
no, but I’ll have to make an exception for that fandom
16. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
one thing? Fuck man, if I only hated one thing most about this fandom I’d still be in it. The feeling of entitlement, the backstabbing, the cliques, the false accusations, the immature anon hate and trolling, the hypocrisy and double standards... I mean there’s more than that but everything else can really fit into those categories probably
17. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
Hob. Just, Hob. Alpha and Flamey from TOME are pure tho, I’ve been wanting to talk about TOME too but that fandom actually isn’t toxic is fuck so
18. What are your thoughts on crack ships?
Don’t care for them much but they’re whatever I guess. I do actually enjoy Edna and Buddy as a mentor/student relationship tho
19. Popular character you hate?
Evelyn? All the wannabes except Screech and maaaaybe Voyd?
20. Unpopular character you love?
Tumblr media
21. Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not?
Yeah totally! Great movie, hell I’d recommend them both! Just stay away from the fandom. Though if you’re looking for a great show with a fandom that isn’t trying to actively kill your brain cells I’d recommend Terrain of Magical Expertise!
22. How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?
Like I said earlier, I’m actually really conflicted on if Buddy should have died. On one hand, its a very fitting ending that his own oversight is his downfall, but on the other hand I mean my poor baby... of course I want to see him alive and well again and no one deserves to die that way I mean... jeez, man... jeez...
23. Most shippable character?
I mean I don’t have an opinion on that because I’m not a shipper but ironically I think Buddy may be the most shipped character? In terms of how many people I’ve seen him shipped with anyway? Weird how that works.
As for TOME... I think I’d consider.... Nnnnnylocke...? (dragon of big dick energy) the most shippable?
24. Least shippable character?
I think a lot of characters tie for this place? Obviously the side characters aren’t shipped much, but of all the least shipped important characters I guess I’d say Edna?
TOME wise, I’d choose Kirb because he too is small and angry
That explains a lot about me I think, too

Sanders Sides-The Incredibles AU
bECAUSE I WATCHED THE INCREDIBLES 2 TWO DAYS AGO AND I’M SCREAMING-
(No spoilers in this btw, just general ideas! I’m not going to be writing this into an actual story, so please don’t ask to be put in a taglist. This was just a thing I thought of and I may make short oneshots if I want to continue it?? But not an entire story. If anyone else wants to write it, feel free to do so as long as I get credited and tagged :) Hope you like it!)
[Just a little warning for Sympathetic Deceit!]
[Characters]
-Patton is Mr. Incredible/Bob Parr
-Logan is Elastigirl/Helen Parr
-Roman is Dash Parr
-Virgil is Violet Parr
-Remy (Sleep) is Frozone
-Deceit is Edna Mode
-Thomas is Jack-Jack Parr
[Plot]
-Instead of the four (Logan, Roman, Patton and Virgil) being blood related and different ages, I decided they could be really close childhood friends that grew up acting like a family.
-Just being teenagers in highschool, the four knew about their powers, but didn’t have any experience yet. They’d separately deal with small crime around their neighborhood, but they’ve never dealt with anything too big.
-On the weekends, they take turns hanging out and/or spending the night at each others’ houses.
-As the four were still in the process of learning and developing their powers, they’ve never told each other and keep it a secret.
-One day something really bad happens in the city they live in and they all end up trying to deal with it, but they get knocked out.
-Luckily they aren’t captured by the villain, and instead they wake up in a cozy, lavish apartment. The four are greeted by a man named Remy, who explains that he also has a superpower, and that he, ‘wasn’t going to leave such handsome people lying on the ground’.
-After all of the introductions and the shock (after waking up and seeing each other in the same room), the four reluctantly tell each other the truth and explain their powers.
-Remy walks in, saying that they can’t go out with clothes so battered and torn up, so he offers to take them to a friend he knows that designs clothes.
-The four are taken to an extravagant mansion in a quieter, more open place nearby the city. They are introduced to Deceit, a talented, but unknown fashion designer that prefers isolation. He’s also joined by Emilie, a scientist/mechanic that has grown up admiring supers and likes to make gadgets that enhance/help different superheroes’ powers. Emilie doesn’t live with Deceit, but goes there often because he has a laboratory there (he lives in a small, regular apartment in the city and he can’t fit all of his machinery in there). Remy explains their situation and Deceit happily agrees to design costumes for them, with Emilie helping out.
-They all explore their powers together, and take care of a lot of crime this way. One day, Logan is dealing with some of the wreckage after a villain incident and he finds an orphanage that got destroyed. He’s about to walk away when he hears distant crying. He searches through the rubble, and saves a crying toddler that got stuck in between some of the wreckage. He wonders how this child survived, but takes him in and shows him to the others anyway.
-It turns out that Remy knows the toddler, whose name is Thomas, and he used to visit that orphanage all the time. He speculates that Thomas might have some sort of power, which would explain how he survived the incident. Logan, Patton, Virgil and Roman decide to adopt him and take turns bringing Thomas into their homes and taking care of him.
[Details]
~Patton~
-Power is Superhuman Strength
-Doesn’t look physically fit from afar (in reality he’s actually really athletic and strong)
-The blue polo shirt he wears is loose (he prefers comfortable clothing) and his cardigan doesn’t help either (it covers some of his shoulders/arms), but his shoulders are broad and he’s really muscular (When Roman first clasped his biceps to congratulate him he did a double take and was like w h a t and Pat was just like (⌒▽⌒)☆)
-Dad jokes 24/7
-The best hugger e v e r (For some people he gives these really tight, secure kind of hugs and for others he’s more gentle and delicate and it’s great)
-Loves food but is awful at cooking it (baking is more of his strength). Has a high metabolism.
-Is very adventurous and wants to do his best to save the world all the time for the good of the city. Not that he minds sharing the spotlight, but he’s just afraid that people will forget all the good deeds he’s done and all of it will be for nothing.
-In school he’s a decent student, but he’s actually very troublesome and gets into fights all of the time. He’s way more clever than people credit him for, resulting in him finding out who the bullies are, leading them into isolated areas and just kicking their butts.
-Puts on an innocent, idiotic facade because he has to visit the nurse’s office all the time to clean up bruises and cuts.
-And whenever some kid he picked a fight with tells on him, none of the teachers ever believe it because he’s so short (coincidentally a lot of the bullies are taller than him) and Patton would never seem like the type of kid to inflict such brutal injuries.
~Logan~
-Power is Elasticity
-Very flexible ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and agile
-Doesn’t have much of a defining build, as he isn’t very athletic and strong
-Takes off his tie as soon as he gets out of school (if he runs into trouble and has to use his power, the tie inhibits the use of his abilities)
-Will step in and use his powers if crime appears near him (or the other three), but he wouldn’t go looking for it
-He does care a lot about peace and justice, but his academic life is important, too.
-He’s incredibly observant. Sometimes he’d jot down notes and have notebooks containing details about people he knows.
-When he found out about his powers, he was afraid to use it out in public (because he’s scared he’ll be seen by someone from his school), so instead resorted to watching lots of superhero/villain movies. As he watched, he’d stop and pause to imagine how he’d defeat the villain with his own powers (which explains how he’s become so clever and quick-witted).
While he’s not extremely friendly and outgoing, there are a few groups of people (his debate team and some of the students in his advanced math and science classes) that he has befriended. He is well known and highly respected among his peers, and he’s aware of that, and very humble about it. He’s a little bit of a nerd/geek, but who cares? The guy is honest, selfless and resourceful.
-His debate team always teases him about ‘that one cute, bubbly guy that always walks in and gives you food’
~Roman~
-Power is Superhuman Speed.
-He’s the literal king of distractions, and the master at taunting (and ultimately pissing off) villains.
-Best at dealing with the public
-Gets decent grades. He has a bit of trouble focusing (and studying). His strength lies more in the creative department
-Flamboyant, theatrical and imaginative. He’s well known (because he also participates in the school play and also helps out with other major events around school), but actually doesn’t have many friends. He has a few close friends, and that’s all he needs. A lot people either are intimidated by him (even though he’s just a musical dork), or want to use him to become popular.
-Loves watching Broadway plays in the city
-Very active online, has tons of accounts on a bunch of different social media platforms
-Extremely ambitious. Attention and support is what fuels his creativity and productivity, so he tries to accomplish more and more to get the attention and support that he needs.
-Energetic, and hardly ever tires
-Is a huge advocate for LGBT+ and women’s rights (so whenever he sees either getting bullied/taunted/harnessed he just zips and casually socks the rude person in the face)
-Has definitely described his power with the word, ‘nyoom’
~Virgil~
-Powers are Invisibility and Force-Field Generation.
-Likes music, art and being alone.
-A top notch student in class. He’s basically terrified of failing/getting a bad grade (even if Patton constantly reassures him), so he studies a lot (sometimes has all nighters).
-Has one or two social media platforms that he spends a majority of time on, has a lot of online friends
-The rate of his thoughts doesn’t go well with the rate of words he can say, resulting in a lot of stuttering and mess ups
-Is terrified when dealing with crime, but he will step in if it’s involving violence. (For example if someone’s robbing a bank, he could just turn invisible and retrieve all of the money back again, but if he hears a single gunshot, then it’s about to go down)
-Sometimes when he’s having an anxiety attack, using his powers calms him down. When he’s able to focus on something (that if he messes up, could destroy something nearby), it takes his mind off stress and intrusive thoughts.
-He also meditates inside a force field because it blocks out outside noise.
-Will fight/think better when he’s listening to music (when he’s out fighting crime with the others, he occasionally has one earbud stuck inside one ear). Upbeat, electronic music gives him an adrenaline rush. It also leaves less room for hesitation because he likes to perform an action at the same time as a beat drop.
~Logan, Virgil, Roman and Patton~
-Patton is the dad friend
-Logan is the mom friend
-Virgil and Roman act like siblings
-Patton and Logan act like an actual married couple. They bring each other food all the time, Patton reminds Logan to not overwork himself while Logan reminds Patton not to stay up too late binging cartoons, they casually call each other petnames/nicknames and sometimes they occasionally share goodbye kisses on the cheek/head.
-And yet, when asked about it, they’re both hella clueless and are like relationship?? What??
-Roman is Patton’s partner in crime. The two are the most impulsive, and as they are always trying to commit heroic, daring acts, sometimes it isn’t necessary and Logan and Virgil always have to keep them in check.
-Virgil and Logan have an unspoken, emotional bond between each other. Whenever Roman and/or Patton goes off to do something regrettable, they just exchange this exasperated look and reluctantly go off to find them.
-Patton is slightly more protective over Virgil than Roman (and not because he loves Virgil more, it’s because he knows Roman, in a physical sense, can take care of himself).
-Virgil is skinny and doesn’t eat much (just because he’s a little picky and has a small appetite), and Patton always worries that it’s somehow his fault and it’s bad for Virgil?? But Logan constantly reminds him that they can’t force Virgil to eat more, and even if he sometimes doesn’t like eating vegetables, he’s still physically fit and healthy.
-Roman, Patton and Logan would be hurt on way more occasions if Virgil wasn’t there. Him and his powers are extremely important to the three, and they remind him frequently. (He’s nicknamed ‘the protector’ for a reason)
-Roman is the most protective over Virgil, even if they bicker constantly and pretend to hate each other. Talk bad about Patton? Go on ahead, he’ll literally slam you against a locker and not get in trouble for it. Talk about Logan? He’ll ignore you and walk away, but you’ll have a swarm of people that adore him on your back for the next few months. But...talk bad about Virgil? sQUARE UP AND FIGHT ME RIGHT NOW, YOU PUNK- (And it’s not that Virgil can’t take care of himself. Yeah, he’s a little on the skinny side, but he’s intelligent and can easily escape from a lot of nasty situations)
-It’s just that Virgil and Roman are both very competitive, always arguing among one another just to challenge each other. Roman helps put Virgil in the spotlight more (but not to the point where he’s too uncomfortable and stressed), while Virgil calms Roman down and teaches him the importance of self control.
-Someone tried to steal Virgil’s sketchbook once and Roman snatched it away from them and beat them up with a ruler
-Once when Roman wouldn’t get the hint to stop talking, Virgil just manifested a bubble around himself and floats upward while looking down and flipping the bird at him
-Virgil saved Roman once and Roman gave him the nickname ‘angel’ (or guardian angel).
-Logan was using his power to get something from another room because he was too lazy to get up and Roman tripped on his arm (Patton and Virgil: tHE EMPIRE HAS FALLEN-)
-When the four found out about each other’s powers, they’d practice using their powers on one another.
-During a mock fight, Logan wrapped his arm around Roman’s neck and all Roman did was whisper, ‘Choke me harder daddy’ and Logan punched him
~Remy~
-Power is Snow/Ice Projection
-Wears a leather jacket (that’s water/ice proof) and takes it off and ties it around his waist when he’s going to use his powers
-When he was little and didn’t know about his powers yet, he was very sickly and always had a cold, so his parents would always keep him inside. As he grew up and ventured into the outside world, his eyes became sensitive to sunlight, causing him to resort to sunglasses that he wore all the time. Since he liked the sunglasses and he couldn’t outgrow the habit (even though the sunlight doesn’t bother him much anymore), he ended up wearing them all the time.
-He’s also the best at interrogation (and at lying). Underneath his sunglasses, his eyes became terribly dull and empty from emotion. When he takes off his sunglasses, he’s told to have a glare that could cut through glass.
-Random snowflakes always seem to get caught in his hair (not that he minds or anything)
-Loves city aesthetics
-Since his body is naturally really cold, he sleeps with several huge blankets and drinks lots of coffee to regulate his body temperature.
-Likes to be extra™ with his ice powers and create more on a larger scale than what’s really necessary
-Is a bit careless with his powers and can go over the top at times
-”Why...is there a flurry in that area of the city?” “Why not?” “It’s the middle of July, Remy.” “Idk I just...thought we could, like, have a change in scenery of something. It was getting too hot.” *cue Logan facepalming*
-Children love him. Babies and toddlers giggle all the time because he’s really silly and playful, and teenagers love his sassy attitude.
-He likes visiting orphanages because he loves children. During summer he also likes being their living air conditioner.
-While everyone’s staying indoors during winter, he’s way more active during his favorite season. He does every winter sport/activity you can ever think of: snowball fights, sledding, ice skating, snow angels, skiing, snowboarding, etc.
-Likes to perfect and practice his power as much as he can. When he was little and didn’t have control over his power, he’d accidentally shoot bursts of ice from his powers and he used to be so terrified of his power.
~Deceit~
-Claims he doesn’t have a power, but he actually has prophetic dreams from time to time.
-His power doesn’t hurt him, or anyone else, and he doesn’t want to live a life as a superhero, so nobody knows (except Emilie). He prefers to use his dreams to help with designing clothes (he got a dream about the arrival of Logan, Virgil, Patton and Roman so over the past few months he’s been researching about superhero costumes and how to make light, flexible material that he can use for the design).
-An actual makeup queen. He’s never seen without makeup, except when he goes to sleep. His makeup looks are usually animal inspired (his favorite being the snake one), but sometimes he just goes for a simple look.
-He likes putting on a mysterious, dark persona. He’s (almost) as extra as Remy and Roman, and loves theatrics. Scarily good at impressions/impersonations.
-Patton and Roman were really spooked upon seeing him for the first time (because of the snake-like makeup he wore), but in reality he’s just a slightly weird, anti-social guy that likes designing clothes
-Uses Remy as a model for his clothes. (Remy likes to pose in the weirdest, most extravagant ways just to get Emilie and Deceit to laugh, which almost always works)
-Also goes by Dee
-Deceit is his alias in the fashion industry, and he’s never told anyone his real name
-He is amazing with fashion, but he’s not good in social situations and he has peculiar interests that most people find bizarre and eccentric.
-He’s so rich because he makes a lot of his income online, where he can sell the clothing he designs. However, since he’s never been interviewed, put in a magazine or been to a fashion show, he’s just not famous.

Incredibles 2 Review
I absolutely loved Incredibles 2! It's a great time at the movies and definitely worth the 14-year wait. I was initially skeptical of it picking up seconds after the original, but I think the story threads here—particularly Jack-Jack's (Eli Fucile, Nick Bird) development and the Anti-Super laws—needed to be dealt with onscreen rather than off.  I liked that they reversed the structure of the first movie and had Helen (Holly Hunter) go off on the adventures while Bob (Craig T. Nelson) stayed at home to watch the kids. Even better, this switch was rooted in statistical facts that Elastigirl was the most effective and efficient hero between herself, Bob, and Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson). Since so much of her Elastigirl persona was left in the past in the original movie because she’d moved on in life while Bob hadn’t really, showing Helen truly loving her work and being great at it was a perfect moment that let us see a whole new side to her. Seeing Helen so overjoyed at getting to be a hero again—and being great at it, with no collateral casualties—was excellent! It was also nice to see that she had detective skills; a good contrast to Bob smashing his way through problems (and which have probably have helped her deduce what her kids are up to over the years!). That her heroic competence was truly valued outside her family circle and by the people who wanted to use her to push their politics Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener) was a genuine and welcome surprise; I'd love to see more female heroes respected and revered the way Elastigirl is here. Bob playing Mr. Mom was a lot of fun, even if I’m more than ready for a competent parenting duo instead of the always-effective mom and the cliché overwhelmed dad. That said, Bob’s battle with Dash's (Huck Milner) new math, Violet's (Sarah Vowell) teenage angst, and Jack-Jack's terrible toddling was extremely relatable and a great change from the superhero midlife crisis we saw in the original. I enjoyed Bob’s playful ego about being the better hero in his marriage and loved that it was balanced by genuinely caring that Helen had the space to do what she needed to do. That sort of loving/selfish balance is an extremely difficult line to walk but the writing and acting totally pull it off without making him unlikable (and it's not even hinted or implied that Helen is in any way selfish either). It was especially sweet of Bob not to tell Helen what was going on with the family not because he didn't want to come off as incompetent, but because he knew she'd stop her mission. Yes, he benefits from her completing it, but I fully believe that he also wants the better future for his kids that Helen can secure. I would've liked to see more of Dash and Violet in general, and particularly their school lives. Dash has homework trouble and Tony (Michael Bird), the boy Violet made a date with, forgets her (a cool example of superhero lives wreaking havoc on civilian ones as well as the law affecting the Parrs in an unexpected way), but the Anti-Super laws would've been stronger if we'd seen the kids’ lack of choice Bob talks about. Violet wanting to be normal and Dash being "defined as a person" by heroism does play out that choice, but we don't really get to see consequences of the laws in terms of impacts on the kids. Does having to come in second place in track rankle Dash? And if he's defined by being a hero, how does he feel about having to hide at school?  Is anyone suspicious of his speed? Does Dash have to fight to control himself when confronted by bullies that openly hate Supers? By teachers who preach that Supers are bad and should be illegal? Playing up the questionable aspects of the first movie's ending—is he cheating by using his speed, even for second place? How is not living up to his potential affecting his development?—would've built up a lot more pressure on the need to make Supers legal again. Violet hating being a Super made her a good proponent for not being legalized, though I would’ve liked more of that as well. How much of her tragic love life is really angst about not being able to be herself? Maybe she could’ve gotten involved with a student organization to keep Supers illegal, pitting her against her mom’s efforts. What if she discovered another Super kid at school and was forced to choose between outing them or letting them stay hidden? Might she find that pretending to be normal at school is simply boring or stifling her in ways she doesn’t want to admit? That said, I loved what we did get from Dash and Violet and absolutely dug Jack-Jack's awakening powers! The idea that Super babies often have multiple abilities is a very cool metaphor for kids having unlimited potential and it also made for a lot of fun, varied action scenes. His battle with a raccoon was highly entertaining and his unexpected bond with Edna Mode (Brad Bird) was a brilliant twist! Edna discovering a role as a loving aunt was as hilarious as it was heartwarming and a great way to reveal a new dimension of her character. Frozone is always a welcome addition and it was great to see more of him here, both as a "rebel" with Bob and Helen trying to get the Anti-Super law reversed, as a protective uncle to the Parr kids, and finally a hypnotized enemy. I’d like to finally meet his wife Honey (Kimberly Adair Clark) though. It's beyond time she was more than just a nagging influence taking the joy out of his superheroics (though I like that she knows her worth!). I really hope she’s also a retired Super so we can see what the two of them are like outside of their home. Or, it would’ve been easy to make her a Lois Lane-type figure, so she could cover Helen’s return to prominence and at least get a moment of bonding with her. Either of those options would be great and I’d like to see their relationship explored somewhere. I knew who Screenslaver (Bill Wise) was almost immediately, but that didn’t lessen my love for this character at all. The hypnotism was a spooky and old-fashioned angle that felt totally fresh and fit the retro-futurist world of The Incredibles perfectly! Screenslaver also managed to comment on modern concerns about social media obsession, which was a nice bit of relatability (just like Bob and Dash's struggle with new math) while remaining rooted in the films’ era, when TVs were the hip new thing everyone was obsessed with. Screenslaver was a creepy, cool villain who topped Syndrome for me. I just wish his argument—that people were getting lazy and becoming too dependent on Supers—was more explored with examples of people being "less" because of superheroes (beyond hearing about a death caused by waiting on one). Maybe Screenslaver should’ve been saved for a movie set after the law against Supers was lifted, but slightly clearer examples of his point here would’ve worked just as well. I feel like his argument would be stronger if we got to see Supers making things too easy or if more people were put in peril because they waited for Supers to fix their problems instead of the big argument against heroes being the collateral damage their fights cause. That said, I absolutely loved this villain and would definitely be down for a Screenslaver return! Underminer (John Ratzenberger) was also a cool, second-tier villain that felt like a classic comic book bad guy. He's clearly patterned off of Mole Man, but that didn't matter to me; it was kinda refreshing (and appropriately old-school, given these movies’ time period) to see a villain who just wanted to rob banks. He also provided a good way to reintroduce the family's heroic dynamic and to showcase Bob and Helen's different fighting styles while complicating their lives further, building off the end of the first movie brilliantly. I liked that it became a strike against the heroes that he was forgotten in the scramble to stop his drills and that he actually got away. The new Supers that were introduced didn't make the biggest impression, but I preferred this to more focus on a bunch of random new people who would take screentime from the Parrs. I did like Voyd (Sophia Bush) a lot; her fangirl attitude toward Elastigirl was fun and she was a nice answer to Syndrome's toxic fandom. I hope she returns in a sequel! Krushauer (Phil LaMarr) was a solid threat and got some good and funny lines in, while Screech playing up his full animalistic nature was creepy and something I hope Daredevil does with Owl Jr. These wannabe Supers did bring a variety of challenges to the final battle, so as secondary adversaries go, they worked perfectly. All the fight scenes contained very clever uses of everyone’s powers and were choreographed with an insane amount of fun and imagination! The numerous powers on display also made for battles that were never uninteresting. Even Bob's Incredibile got a nice showcase here as a display of the retro tech in this universe. I love the design of this world in general, but classic spy and superhero aesthetics like that are my favorite parts; I wish more superhero franchises would embrace stylized elements like this to carve out their own identities. Speaking of classic aesthetics, I loved that Bob, Helen, and Lucius had their own old-timey superhero theme songs! Michael Giacchino’s music was great as always, but those themes were great surprises! Brad Bird's direction was crisp and the writing emotionally resonate, bringing the heart of the first movie back at full force.  I can't wait to see what comes next from this world! I hope we don't have to wait another 14 years for Incredibles 3 (and I didn't need the apology/”trust us the wait was worth it” video that played at the beginning of this one; it only made us wait longer!), but I definitely want to see more adventures in this universe. Now that Supers are allowed again, I’d love for the next movie to introduce Dash and Violet's trouble-making cousins as wannabe supervillain bad influences. Cousins would bring aunts and uncles who have differing parenting styles from Bob and Helen, as well as Bob and Helen’s in-laws, who have their own opinions on how to “correctly” be heroes as well as parents. I'm thinking Christmas Vacation with superheroes, but whatever the next film is, I'll be in line to see it! While we wait, you should see Incredibles 2! It's among Pixar's best and definitely worth seeing on the big screen!

The Incredibles 2 (2018)
It’s been a long time coming, folks, but here we are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Incredibles 2 is the long awaited sequel to Disney’s OG superhero movie The Incredibles that was released all the way back in 2004. The sequel picks up where the original left off with the Parr family suiting up to take down The Underminer who was planning on robbing the bank and destroying the city with his bigass, doped-up drill. Following more or less in the same vein as the original, The Incredibles 2 tells the story of family conflicts and its resolutions along with featuring a kickass plot that involves the Parr family having to save the entire world from total doom. It’s a wholesome, badass, and nostalgic movie for those who have seen the original. But if you haven’t seen the original movie, then what are you even doing with your life? I loved every minute of it and for a supposed animated kids-targeted movie, it sure as hell is more realistic than Ant-Man and the Wasp. Why? Because it featured fucking foundations under houses, that’s whyasdfaieuhfaciuhdfa
Tumblr media
I need to chill.
Tumblr media
Final verdict, though: 4.5/5
There will spoilers throughout the rest of thos review.
I have to admit, one of the main reasons why I love this movie so much is because of the small references it makes to the original movie or scenes that were written in so that fans of the original movie would be reminded of it. I don't care if all of it was just clever manipulation on Disney's part in order to get audiences to like this movie, I just don't. Why? Because all of the throwbacks are incorporated into the movie seamlessly and does not break the narrative flow for the sake of inducing nostalgia. However, you can tell that Disney did extensive research on what fans of the previous movies zeroed in on in terms of significant moments that stuck out in the original movie because there were references to
Tumblr media
And to
Tumblr media
These references aren't in-you-face about it, but for those of us who grew up with the original movie and have been waiting for years and years on end for the sequel, it's nigh impossible that you can miss them. In addition, I also really like how they made Elastigirl's first superhero act in the sequel to be that she would need to stop a train from going off the rails. It's the defining act that launches her name back into the public eye and is a nice juxtaposition to Mr. Incredible's own training-stopping act in the first movie. The juxtaposition in this sense is more or less saying that both characters are of equal footing both in and outside of the household and also in terms of capabilities. It could also carry a feminist message that girls can be just as tough and brave and [insert adjective here] as boys can, and it's a nice little message that's not glaring or preachy and I really appreciate it.
In addition, the juxtaposition of the two characters also adds to the conflict that is sorta brewing between Bob and Ellen wherein Bob is lowkey jealous of Ellen for having taken his spotlight in the public's eye while he's stuck at home babysitting the kids. The ongoing issue of Bob's, or Mr. Incredible's, ego transfers from the first movie into this one and while there are some extremely funny moments that happened because of this ego, we don't really get to see it explored in the movie in any further than Bob being frustrated from time to time. Therefore, the conflict between Bob and Ellen isn't really developed further in the movie as well in the sense that it doesn't really contribute a lot to the plot in terms of having a negative, significant impact on the characters' relationships with each other which subsequently leads to the characters being faced with a personal conflict that they have to resolve in order to handle the imminent threat of the enemy. Rather, the conflict is treated as more of a filler for the dramatic aspect of the movie. And while I do love me a good drama, the reason why I wish they had explored the conflict between Bob and Ellen further is because the main villain of the movie pushed for the separation of the two and seemed to have regarded Ellen as a potential ally if only she'd change her perspective just a smidge. If the movie had delved deeper into the conflict, fleshed out the kinks, and considered the ways which it could play into the larger narrative of the movie, I think that would have significantly enhanced the plot.
But it's time we move on from looking at The Incredibles 2 as being the sequel to The Incredibles for it is, in a lot of ways, its own movie. So, it's only fair that we review it as such for as the famous and beloved Edna Mode once said:
Tumblr media
You know what, I can't decide which character I like best.
Sometimes I think I like Dash best because he's the human version of r/zoomies but other times, I think I like Violet best because I was totally that broody and emo when I was fourteen. And Jack-Jack is just a d o r a b l e. But then there's Edna.

I can’t decided. They're all just so wonderful.
But I'm getting sidetracked.
As I've said before, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie when I was sitting in the theatre and loved every minute of it. The chemistry and playful family dynamics within the Parr family is just wonderfully written and skillfully incorporated into the first fighting sequence and it’s honestly such an amazing scene to watch. However, no movie is perfect, and, sadly enough, that also applies to The Incredibles 2. Some of the flaws which I find the movie to have are that:
At times, conversations between characters are intentionally written to be more complex and serious than they need to be and bring up points that ultimately don't get revisited again.
The conflict between the kids and the parents doesn't really play a big role in the story even though it is presented in such a way that makes one think it will. However, the conflict is considered by the movie as a "knot" in the story that needs to be "untied" by the end of it. Therefore, it leaves the resolution of the movie feeling a bit… underwhelming.
Building off of the previous bullet points (even though I don't consider this to be a criticism of the movie because I honestly just find this to be funny but I had to include it for it's a point to be made about the subject matter), the ending teaches a terrible lesson when it comes to listening to your parents because it literally teaches the exact same opposite of what a child should do.
In terms of the first bullet point, considering that college students are within Disney's target audience for The Incredibles 2 because they are the ones who grew up with and are the main fans of the original movie, it makes sense this bullet point exists. However, because the unspecified, aforementioned conversations in question are written to lowkey take on a serious tone, what that tells the audience (or, the people who aren't kids, anyways) is that the problems and issues which are raised throughout these conversations are going to play an integral part, or at least be addressed, in the story as the movie goes on. But they don't—and that's a problem. I'm not going to sit here and preach about how extraneous details which are made glaring but are actually just superfluous within a work of fiction is obsolete and kinda annoying and ultimately don't do anything for anyone at all—that is, if they don't affect the work in question negatively.
Moreover, circling back to the statement wherein I said that this movie is more intelligent than the Ant-man sequel and considering that Disney wants to make The Incredibles 2 more appealing to the now-college-students, it just kinda make even more sense as to why the movie come off as being smarter than it should be and why the sequel to Ant-man appears dumber than it should be. Even though both movies feature more or less the same characteristics such as sci-fi elements and action comedy and so on and so forth, the presentation of Ant-man and the Wasp and the medium through which it is presented—live action cinema—insinuates that it might be slightly more attractive to young adults and older audiences while the presentation of The Incredibles 2 and the medium through which it is presented—3D animation—insinuates that younger children are going to be more drawn to it. Therefore, because the ultimate goal is to have as wide an audience range as possible, the content of these two movies needed to be altered slightly in order to attract the most viewers as possible. But all of that's just my postulation.
Moving onto the second bullet point. So, at the beginning of the movie, the children are told to abstain from using their superpowers and from helping their parents fight crime. The two sides argue about it, and the conflict is established. But, as I've said before, this conflict doesn't really create a problem for the family nor does it have any effects on the plot in any way. Then, when the parents is hypnotized and yada yada yada, and the kids are left to their own devices to fend for themselves, they decide to go save their parents and is successful in their attempt and aren't punished for having disobeyed their parents. The conflict is now resolved. Do I need to tell you why this is bad story-writing? I do? Well, I don't want to because the answer is long and technical and I'm lazy and this isn't one of those movie analysis essay videos that you see on Youtube, so here's the short version for you: a good story needs to come from the characters and a good plot needs to be built and developed upon the character(s)'s weaknesses. If you want to make the audience connect with your character(s) and for the conflict/struggle/etc. in the story to be compelling, the conflict needs to negatively impact or inhibit the character(s) in a way that forces the character(s) to face their own weakness and triumph over it. Here's a different way to think of this sequence: if a person likes to clean and does it often and it doesn't interfere with their life in any negative way or at all other than it makes their surroundings cleaner, that person is fine and there's really no story to tell. However, if a person likes to clean and does it often and it affects their life in a negative way in the sense that they are unable to function unless their surroundings is spotless or something of the sort, then there is a story to be told—one where the character learns how to overcome their struggle/weakness; and a good story would be built around their struggle/weakness.
Going back to The Incredibles 2, the conflict between the kids and the parents is introduced and resolved but the climax to it is never presented. The same goes for Bob and Ellen's conflict. I feel like all of this is sacrificed in the face of having to deal with the villain in the movie and if you've read my A Quiet Place (2018) review, you'd know why this is not a good thing. Of course, one could brush off all of these conflicts in the family as something that’s meant to be there in order to make the movie feel more realistic because every family bickers and goes through similar conflicts as the ones shown in the movie. But as I've stated in my review of Ant-man and the Wasp, you can't just do that man. Why?

IT JUST DOESN'T WORK, OKAY? IF YOU WANT A MOVIE THAT'S BOTH REALISTIC AND ENTERTAINING GO LEARN HOW TO INCORPORATE REALISTIC DETAILS INTO YOUR CHARACTERS AND INTERWEAVE THEM INTO YOUR PLOTS INSTEAD OF JUST TOSSING RANDOM, RELATABLE DETAILS IN THERE AND CALLING IT A DAY.

That being said, I still love The Incredibles 2.
And before I forget, the last bullet point speaks for itself. Kids arguing with their parents and defending themselves for not having done what their parents asked them to do, but then when they disobey again, it pays off in strides and the kids don't get reprimanded? Yeah… not the best lesson to have your kids learn.
That's it for this review, kids. Tune in next time to experience me shitting all over Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and The First Purge (2018).
Sidenote: I love this scene so much.
