I'm no longer able to fit this into Healing Fire due to the erasure of twolegs, so here's the original rewrite of Firestar's Quest because I'm very proud of it and love it very very much.

Sweetflower (Princess) and Sandstorm go and create Modern SkyClan together. Fire has his dreams as per FQ, but as he's the only advisor of Thunder Sect, he's like "I would fucking love to help but I cannot". He confides in Sandstorm, Greystripe, and Sweetflower about it, and Sweetflower's like "hey, I'm your kin, which means I also don't have Sect blood. I'll go rebuild the Sky Sect in your place!" Sandstorm is like "not without me, you're not!"

So they talk with Bluestar and she lets them go. Tawny, who stayed with the Thunder Sect but never really felt like a part of it, volunteers to go as well. She and Bramble still haven't received their warrior names- they're still being treated as evil disasters waiting to happen.

Tawny ultimately decides to stay and live with live Sky Sect; they don't know her family history, after all, and she truly feels connected to these cats. She eventually (years down the line) becomes deputy!

The main argument between Sweetflower and Sandstorm is Kittypet Life vs Warrior Life, instead of Dead Girl vs Alive Girl. Sweetflower believes that Boris and Cherry can absolutely live as both warriors and house cats; Sandstorm insists they can't. Sweetflower knows what it's like to be forced to choose between two things you love; Sandstorm is scared that she's going to leave her.

....How have I not seen people talk about the siamese cats when discussing racism in Warrior Cats. It’s right out of “Lady and the Tramp” and “The Aristocats”.

I’m reading Firestar’s Quest and they’re looking for kittypets to join SkyClan.

[Firestar] had never seen cats like these before. Their slender bodies were cream-coloured, but their legs, tails, ears, and muzzles were brown, and they had the most brilliant blue eyes he had ever seen.

Me: “Oh cool! Official colourpoints. Haha shame for all fanartists that colourpoints likely aren’t a thing in the Clans.”

The Erins, IMMEDIATELY:

One of them let out a weird high-pitched yowl. “Hi, Cherry. Hi, Boris.” “What do you want?” the other asked, in the same strange voice.

And just in case you didn’t get the foreign coding.

[Firestar] felt oddly hesistant; these cats couldn’t possibly be SkyClan descendants.

Why. The fuck. Would you give them accents? These are kittypets likely born and raised in the exact same neighbourhood as all these SkyClan descendants. Moreover, why would you repeatedly emphasise them as “strange”, “weird”, and “intense”? Brook has an accent because she was raised in a different region plus a part of the thoughtless indigenous coding but that’s an essay someone else has written. The fact these cats are foreign is the joke and you know exactly what joke they’re making.

Two identical heads rose from the head of fur.

Moving as one, the two cats rested their heads on their paws again and closed their eyes. 

The emphasis on moving in sync doesn’t help. You know exactly the scene it’s reminding me of while it’s reinforcing the image of these two as alien and identical.

Then there’s their characterisation. Yes, many of the kittypets Firestar asks don’t agree to join SkyClan but the portrayal of these two is then so pointedly negative.

“What, us?” Rose’s eyes opened wide. “You’re joking, of course.” “Us live in a cave?” With no warm blanket?” Lily added. “No creamed chicken?” “To chase mice and kill them?” Rose’s tongue rapsed delicately over one brown paw. “How vular!”

Yes. I see the “spoiled rich” stereotype in their dialogue that this was meant to convey but, again, you know exactly the stereotype of siamese cats these two are playing into.

Not only is this racist in its own right but this also reinforces the big unfortunate implications of this entire book: the importance of blood. Throughout this book, SkyClan descendants are perfect for rejoining SkyClan because they were of SkyClan blood. That’s why they must return to the gorge regardless of their current life. That’s why they’re naturally good at jumping. (Yes, biological advantages in their legs and paws help but that’s not the only point of emphasis). So, why would these markedly foreign cats join?

It’s a wasted opportunity. The wonderful thing about SkyClan is it being rebuilt out of all sorts of cats who wanted to rebuild it. Wouldn’t it have been great to emphasise how descendants of the original Clan and new faces alike can come together? Exactly as Firestar chose to leave his kittypet life and become a warrior regardless of his blood?

C’mon, Erins. Children understood very clearly that the siamese cats in those Disney films were Asian caricatures: the bullies and the bullied. I would have hoped some grown women would have thought for a second before repeating this imagery in their book.

hello, I love what you're doing with your AU. as someone who is making an AU myself, do you take somethings from "canon" and put them in? if so how do you decide how to put things into the story of Vigilante

GAHHH IM LOVING THESE QUESTIONS!! Fangirling aside, it really depends what direction and plot you’re taking with your AU. Time period, location, and main plot all are big factors here, along with how polished you plan the story to be.

Let me do some comparisons with my two AUs

Vigilante: I did want to keep main aspects of the game in there, but sometimes plot can get in the way of that so you really have to get creative. I won’t spoil anything but I did have to do this with a few main plot points in the game. Tom being Boris in this AU is one example: two Boris’s that look exactly alike would be very difficult to explain in the context of this AU, the only way I could see this working is having them be twins which is it’s own can of worms. There are a few other examples but again no spoilers. This is specifically a BATIM AU due to the difficulties BATDR provides for the AU, plus this AU was also made way before BATDR was released and I already had my main plot points done. I was lucky with the time period because early BATIM did happen in the 1920’s, tbh this is one of those moments where I bullshit the story and say “well in this world-“ mostly referencing the animation era and just moving it to take place in an earlier time. I don’t like to do this too much because I do try to be as accurate as possible, but in the end of the day it’s my story and I can do whatever I want😜. I also got luck with the setting too, correct me if I’m wrong but the cannon studio is in either New York or Brooklyn but at the time I actually didn’t know that so… Lucky me lol. I decided to make Henry’s backstory actually relating to the main plot of the game, he goes back to the studio except this time he’s trying to find Bendy. If you didn’t know, Henry also leaves the studio in this AU. I won’t spoil any more of this because I want to expand on the little man more in the future but that’s what I got.

The Void AU:

This AU was made 6 years ago, it is quite old- This AU was probably my first intro into story making so it’s very messy. What I mean by that? The plot is everywhere, many characters are flat or have no real goals or morals, Bendy was honestly the worst guy ever he was such an asshole (not in the cute way) and was the most toxic mf alive, the amount of Warriors references that are there is honestly exhausting and basically turns this whole “original story/AU” into more of an elaborate Warrior Cats fanfic, the many villains that popped up were super flat and boring along with every protag too, and finally this take place in a forest/plain/camp place and tbh I don’t even know what the setting is.

With that being said…

What I was talking about there was the “original” version of the AU, call it “Random Mess 1.0” if you will, since then I’ve changed many things about it since it’s original creation. Keep in mind, the Void AU you see is only one of the arcs in this full AU and it’s basically the last one, so many of you don’t know a lot of the whole world that’s in the back of my brain. I will tell you the changes I’ve made for the characters and story you do know: I made Bendy much more likable protagonist with goals that are much more expressed, I polished the plot a lot more than it was before, I made a few things more original and deleted a lot of the Warriors references (so many…), I gave many of the characters more expressive personalities which the reader would be able to recognize, I fixed the designs to match the fluffs personalities much more and to help make them more expressive. NOW BACK ON TRACK, I honestly didn’t have any of the cannon events in the game really happen in this AU, the only thing really relating to the actual games is the alt. designs (demon/spirit forms probably the only OG thing I created that was pretty cool, this concept is also featured in the Vigilante AU) I’ll show them here at some point but that aside, this was just a goofy, silly, story that I made just for fun so I really didn’t care how the story went. The Void AU you all see is probably the most polished part of the story and because of that it’s able to be cut off and stand alone as it’s own thing.

Ok, I probably went off track many times and started rambling so my bad, BUT this is sorta how I see it: Depending on the plot you can add and cut out things as you please, this also applies to the quality of the story you want to tell.

The rules i'm following for this challenge are-

Generally, the actual books take priority over the allegiances, just because a character is listed in the allegiances section of a book does not mean that i'm going to be drawing them then, I'll instead be drawing characters when they officially appear/are named in the books. (Example: Boulder is listed in the allegiances of Into the Wild but doesn't actually appear in the books until The Darkest Hour, i'll be drawing him with the cats who first appear in that book rather than Into the Wild) The reason I do this is because I like to understand the context behind why a cat first appears or what they are actually like in the books before I draw them, I feel like it really adds to the design!

I draw cats in various stages of their life, so as a cat ages/changes ranks I'll be drawing them multiple times. The changes I'll draw are; Kits -> Apprentice -> Warrior/Med Cat -> Leader/Elder. Exceptions will be made for cats who go through very drastic changes (example; Brightpaw -> Lostface -> Brightheart or Stormkit -> Crookedkit) and also in cases where cats don't change a lot inbetween ranks (Boris and Cherry -> Sparrowpaw and Cherrypaw, or Yellowfang as a rogue -> Yellowfang as a TC medicine cat)

I take into account the family that a cat has before I design them, but to me the website family tree doesn't exist. If a familal relation is never explicitly confirmed in the books and exists only through the family tree, then it's not canon in my book and I won't be considering it for my designs. (Examples: Smallear being Goldenflower and Lionheart's dad, Robinwing and Fuzzypelt being Dustpelt and Ravenpaw's parents, and Whitestorm being Ferncloud and Ashfur's father)

The same goes for any cats who do appear or officially exist in the books but are only given names or designs through the family tree (Examples: Ashfur and Ferncloud's littermates, Firestar and Princess' littermates, and Cloudtail's littermates)

Rules for others

You are 100% allowed to use my designs for MAP's, fanart, or whatever else. Just make sure you give credit and feel free to tag/link me, I'd love to see!

If you'd like to follow me along and also draw the cats in order of when they first appear you of course can, i'd love to see the stuff you draw as well! Additionally, you don't at all have to follow the rules that I'm following, if you feel like my personal rules are too restricting feel free to adapt the challenge however you want to! This is all in good fun after all.

Please refrain from asking for a specific character to be drawn, I'll get to everyone as long as they're named in the books I promise! If you notice I've skipped over a character feel free to send in an ask or a DM letting me know! Just make sure you give me some information about when the character was first named (book title, chapter, page number, and the quote from the book would be great), this way I can double check and add them to my list!
