A recently released set of topography maps provides new evidence for an ancient northern ocean on Mars. The maps offer the strongest case yet that the planet once experienced sea-level rise consistent with an extended warm and wet climate, not the harsh, frozen landscape that exists today.
"What immediately comes to mind as one the most significant points here is that the existence of an ocean of this size means a higher potential for life," said Benjamin Cardenas, assistant professor of geosciences at Penn State and lead author on the study recently published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets.
"It also tells us about the ancient climate and its evolution. Based on these findings, we know there had to have been a period when it was warm enough and the atmosphere was thick enough to support this much liquid water at one time."

So this last installment is about how Mars is dealing with its new independence, humanity dealing with everyone living 300ish years, about the associated problems with memory that go along with it, and how the old timers on Mars are dealing with it all. Robinson was very adept to point out all the population problems to come with the anti-aging treatments. If anything like that does happen, I think Robinson's take will be pretty prophetic. Truly our society is not at all set up to deal with people not dying. And honestly having some of the rich not die would be bad in my opinion. But hey, when you have an extra 200 years maybe you can change for the better?
My favourite part about this book is the constitutional conference they hold. All the ideas they put forward just seem so good to me. Now I haven't studied law or governance, but as a person who lives, I find myself going, this would be a way better system of government. Sadly I think anyone trying to push this in a real sense on our real Earth would quickly find themselves destroyed. And if you're intrigued, pick up the book and see for yourself. I find Robinson's writing on government quite inspiring.
Part of the population problems involves expanding into all corners of the solar system. It's quite fun to see the settlements on Mercury and the moons of Uranus. The expansion into big space SciFi is kind of fun, but the centre is obviously still Mars. It doesn't lose focus, it just gives us glimpses.
I got myself a dream lamp (lava lamp but the box said dream lamp hehe :3) as an Xmas pressie from me because I like giving myself something for my birthday and for holidays as a sort of self-love pampery thing 🙈🥰 Anyway it’s like the coolest lamp ever and I love it so much 😍
@laikascomet has been such a delight to follow so far !!

Mars is a young anthro cat with dark blue fur, red-orange eyes, short choppy hair, and a long tail with a light blue star at the end. they have a star-shaped hair clip and they are wearing orange overalls over a yellow shirt. they are hugging Menya, a plush cat, as they walk by Shinx, who is seen from behind. they both look at each other curiously. they are on a white background with little yellow stars around them. /END ID]
