Someone told me they thought there was political commentary in Red Mars but they couldn't put their finger on it quite.
I think I should reread this book, because it's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that there's political commentary in it. Possibly even political commentary that is relevant to the '90s when it was written, and today when it's read.
god sorry major mars trilogy spoilers but the absolute ARC of ann and sax like kim stanley robinson rly said ms austen i'm going to do you proud and wrote the longest fucking slow burn enemies to lovers of all time just sprinkled amongst 250 years of terraforming and revolutions in which BOTH characters undergo radical transformations while at the same time maintaining their core essence
Finished Red Mars! The ending was not as strong as I had hoped (what is the deal with Coyote. Just tell us) but man is it a great book.
I knew to expect a hard sci-fi, science oriented, minimally emotional tale, but I did not expect it to have such great characters. While they can be dry sometimes, each POV character (RIP Arkady) is well rounded, motivated, and mostly a joy to be with.
