My take on Koffi from the Beasts of Prey trilogy by Ayana Gray.
I can’t wait for the third and final book to come out! So many questions were answered but so many new ones popped up 🙀 it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out …📙 also interested in seeing what new creatures will come into play, the entire series is filled with creatures from African mythology.
If you’re curious about how her story starts…
The first book follows a warrior in training and a beast keeper as they enter a magical jungle ( filled with fantastical creatures) to hunt down an ancient monster.
Side note : it was fun doing a relatively “quick” character painting in between all the big splash scenes currently on the go. Will definitely be scheduling in more of these.
Finally finished Beasts of Ruin, the sequel to Beasts of Prey. However, considering that the book ended abruptly, there’s going to be another book. As always, feel free to add any warnings that I missed.

"He liked books, generally speaking, because they could be trusted to be consistent. A book could be read a thousand different times, a thousand different ways, but the words on the page would never change. Unlike people, books couldn't be disappointed in you. They couldn't abandon you. They couldn't fail you."
x. "Beasts of Prey", Ayana Gray
"Joy is a fleeting thing, though, as I have since come to learn. It pools in cupped palms, then seeps through the cracks no matter how tightly one might press ones fingers together in the hopes of preserving it."
“To be loved is to be changed” but instead of well worn and lovely I’m jagged and sharp. I’m ruined like a feral dog off its chain. I’m chasing after the scraps of myself with you at my heals, holding me far from who I used to be. I’m bloody and disgusting. Love has turned me into something dark and dangerous and evil, something consumed, something consumable.
do you ever think about how in the day i picked up dazai side b dazai had to lie emotionless and soulless—like a corpse, almost—beside the man that gently brought him in, nursed his injuries, held him while he was in pain? he had to keep those suffocating bandages around his entire face, lest this man gain some sort of recognition for the little boy he saved. he had to lay there curled in the fetal position, bleeding and in pain, perhaps thinking about how, in another life, this man cooked for him, tried to build up his strength. read to him to pass the time while he curled up against him like a child listening to a bedtime story. played cards with him. saw through the heartless mafioso. the ruthless killer. and instead saw a boy.
imagine knowing this man, the man who saved you in more ways than one, was going to die one day all because he knew you. because he reached his hand into the darkness and plaintively, like a small child wanting a parent's touch, you grasped back desperately. imagine thinking all of that while that man is just a stone's throw away, making coffee in the next room just like he used to for you in another life. the scent, although you've never been here before, is reminiscent of home. and the tune he's humming? it's the silent melody that plays through your mind seven years later, for the last time as you fall backward off the building with your arms out like an embrace. but, hey. that man is alive. he's happy, although he never knew you. you can die with no regrets.

As she reluctantly learns to survive amidst unexpected friends and foes, she will also have to choose between the life—and love—she once had, or the one she could have, if she truly embraces her dangerous gifts.
Cast out from the only home he’s ever known, Ekon is forced to strike new and unconventional alliances to find and rescue Koffi before it’s too late. But as he gets closer to the realm of death each day, so too does he draw nearer to a terrible truth—one that could cost everything.
Koffi and Ekon—separated by land, sea, and gods—will have to risk everything to reunite again. But the longer they’re kept apart, the more each of their loyalties are tested. Soon, both may have to reckon with changing hearts—and maybe, changing destinies.

Listen, I'm sorry to the people who draw Veils in torn/bloody robes because of the whole Vake thing but you're simply wrong. Do you think Veils would Ever go out like that. Do you think it doesn't have fifteen changes of clothes ready immediately, with options depending on the day and occasion, to climb into when it comes back from killing things. Of course it does. Veils is getting home, taking a shower in the Bazaar, putting on a new perfectly clean robe with accent panels and silk trim, and then dabbing 1 (one) tasteful bloodstain on the hem of it with a claw because it's arrogant and it thinks it can get away with it. What is a Veils if it's not serving cunt. Of course it is.
look I love sun and moon but if I see one more eclipse post 😭 IM A ROXANNE ENJOYER PERSONALLY??? and after this dlc whoooooo boy ur gonna be seeing more of her my wife my beloved my little lady
I genuinely - GENUINELY - do not understand people who say their "childhood got ruined" because of a Disney Live Action remake.
Like... the OG movie is still there? Disney didn't erase the animated version and replaced it with the remake. You can choose not to watch the remake if you don't enjoy it. Noone is forcing you to look at it.
And honestly, how thin and weak are your childhood memories if they can be "destroyed" just because... a characters hair is not red enough? *side eye*
