@tunkus and i decided to come up with our own shuffle units, since we have no idea what the next one will be now that every idol has been in one (if theyre even gonna do more but GOD i hope they do)

shuffle unit leaders are the character at the far left!! shuffle unit names are a mix of actual potential names or just concept descriptors

explanations on these under the cut

Girls Night okay this one's just. self indulgent gender headcanons. since we headcanon all of these characters as transfem. definitely not ALL of the characters that we headcanon as transfem, but the funniest assortment of them that we also thought would sound good.

Spy Movie this one was mostly a "hiMERU and hiyori would be fun in a unit" concept build, but we're sooo fond of it. their voices work surprisingly well together, and the concept we have for it is that they're all cast in some kind of spy movie, and the song would be jazz-like. also their all like the exact same height which i think is great

Cryptids kanata needs to be the leader of a weird cryptid-style unit. all these characters are little freaks in their own ways and they ALSO have really unique voices. youd think thisd make it sound bad but in testing it out, kanata shines just enough to stand out as the unit leader, and they all harmonize and flow together really well. they al have a very similar quality to their voices

Top5 okay this ones funny. bogie time event revealed that mitsuru is becoming a really popular idol on his own, separate from Ra*bits, because of all the variety shows and talkshows he goes on. so we came up with the idea of ES doing some kind of poll for peoples favorite idols, and the top 5 would perform a concert together as a shuffle unit. and imagining the interactions between these 5 characters brings me so much joy bc like. eichi rei and keito have sooo much yumenosaki history together. and rinne is full of drama and loves to cause problems. and then mitsuru is just a lil guy. and he ends up the leader bc he has the least drama with any of them and they all are okay with him

GAME ON how have we not had a gamer unit. come on. sora would make such a fun shuffle unit leader!! yuta and tetora* arent really gamers as far as i know but they both are people sora would get along with well and might invite. and also they just all have such fun energy. gamer unit. *edit: forgot that tetora canonically plays a gatcha genshin-style mobile game, he IS a gamer

Touch of Spring this is the one that has 2 characters from the same unit, but their voices sound soooo good together. this mostly started as wanting kohaku to lead a unit with aira in it and bloomed (hah) from there. they all have such soft voices, and we imagined them as a shuffle unit for the cherry blossom festivals!!

Happy Birthday kind of a mixed bag from some leftover characters, BUT they do sound really good together and have a lot of lil-guy energy. tsumugi is so tall compared to the rest of them its really funny. shinobu deserves to lead a shuffle unit though and "birthday party" was like. the only conclusive energy we could pull from this combination. bright and shinny holiday energy but also in a soft and personal way

Chivalry we imagined this as like. hajime and a bunch of chivalrous knightly characters. and it starting maybe from hajime wanting to be more knightly and chivalrous, because he admires tomoya for always being his "knight in shining armor". we could see it either going in that direction or just "princess hajime" kind of vibes, maybe for some kind of play or movie? they look and sound sooo good together, their voices are all very soft and sweet

Collateral Damage AAAAAAA we love this one. we were getting to the last of the characters when we made this one but its so good. the egos in this unit and worldviews are so intense and powerful. and they have some wild powerful voices, but also some soft voices to balance things out. whatever theyd sing itd probably be intense. i want to see tatsumi and nagisa talk about god.

Star Crossed coming up with a 4-person unit is hard but this one is very fun. we werent able to preview what theyd sound like, but we had the idea that this is some kind of like, poetry, theatrical kind of event unit? maybe old japanese poetry, maybe something shakespearian

until atlus and/or perfect games corrects me im holding onto the theory that p5x is about akechi wishing he could go back in time to undo everything hes done and have another chance at a normal life (with ren maybe? "if only wed met a few years earlier").

maybe as a disguise, a desire for a completely fresh start, or thats just what he looked like back then, akechi appears as a second year with shorter red hair.

akechi is wonder. they have a few minor visual similarities (black outfit with a high collar and red lenses over the eyes of the mask, and both their actual eyes are reddish). also, we know that wonder was responsible for some big "choice" that caught luffys attention. in this theory that choice was to either create or enter this new reality. this would also explain that rumor a while back that we're getting an akechi spinoff game

but the time travel (er i suppose dimension hopping, whichd explain the altered signs and landmarks around tokyo shown in the trailers) was unstable or it fucked up or something, and now time is all outta whack. a la spiderverse, the various times and universes are converging, and people from across existence are appearing in p5x's tokyo.

this is your gacha system. whos gonna pop outta the wormhole? buy currency and maybe the next arrival will be yosuke hanamura! or maki sonomura! or akihiko sanada as a sees member! or akihiko sanada as a shadow ops member! i mean, the universe is falling apart anyways, might as well take advantage of the cracks in reality and enlist some help from fellow experienced persona users if you can pull them from the lootbox.

im not sure about every detail of this headcanon though. would akechi remember the past year? was it a conscious choice or an accident? who sent him here? maruki? philemon? and why is his outfit so different from both forms we saw in p5?

also DISCLAIMER: i know this wont happen. wonder really doesnt look that much like akechi the longer i look at him. thisd be really dumb and out of left field (hell, as much as i love persona 2 innocent sin, that games universe hopping time travel shit was lowkey infuriating), and it relies heavily on the ending of another game that it clearly has very little to do with. im also not great with characterization and symbolism so its very possible and even highly likely that this plot would undermine a lot of akechi's personality and development in royal. like yknow not wanting to leave his true reality even if the other one can give him everything he wanted. so if this is the actual plot thatd kinda be terrible, this is more of a crack theory or really just a fun fanfic au idea :)

hi eren i want to listen to more metal & im wondering where i should start. so far ive listened to like nu-metal(? idk what the correct term is) stuff like poppy and babymetal and ofc vocaloid metal like utsu-p

omg permission to be annoying 101 here i go ok im gonna cut this cause its long bleh... im like bad at talking about music really but ill try my best to make sense... mostly into black + death myself

ok so most of those are very like pop adjacent... nu-metal + electronic pop (im pretty unfamiliar im just going off of stuff ive read). so basically i tried to make a playlist where it kind of goes from uhhh.. "normal" to "extreme" for lack of a better phrase ig >__< from nu metal to black metal. theres def like... you know... a lot more genres out there than what i personally included but i figured itd do .. dont really need to go into grindcore and whatever i figured thisd work best as intro

i tried being very selective here and tried to go as short as possible.. umm like i have that whole other playlist where its pretty much all the metal i listen to minus the stuff that isnt on spotify/.... said in the playlist desc but i went with a lot of the popular songs *thumbs up*

nu metal (SOAD -> evanescence):

i somewhat actively bag on nu metal like rlly hard haha BUT im pretty into System of a Down (fun drumming and serj has a good voice), and i did include an evanescence song although thats.. i mean theyre nu-metal but my mind just says "emo moment".

sludge (melvins -> alice in chains):

sludge tends to cross a lot with grunge and just rock in general... so sometimes its a lot less metal and more rock or grunge but i thought itd be good to include anywayu

thrash + death (riffobia -> death):

merging these together cause they kinda go together sometimes... like dont get me wrong theres differences but. yep. so with thrash its like, metallica megadeth anthrax slayer etc like its the Big One but i really dont listen to any of those because idc oops. HOWEVER scythelord is absolutely one of my fave bands of all time and theyre kind of like thrash/death, i tried not to go overboard including them but... oops. yep

brutal death (cannibal corpse -> inveracity):

so brutal death is just death but some guy burps into the microphone the whole time basically andwell i love it. nonetheless i limited its addition in tge playlist because . um. because people dont like it that much and thats fair

black metal (darkthrone -> sarastus):

YAYYY sooo distortion and screeching and shitty quality and very atmospheric . and theyre not on spotify but again plugging these guys because its such a good album..

**le extra** atmospheric doom stuff (sea witch -> black tremor)

sort of a bonus in my eyes but yes my two atmospheric doom bands that i love. no vocals all instrumental and jusr vibes um sea witch is all nautical and black tremor is all dust storm feeling. you just get it if u hear it *nodding*

i like this !!! this is a very mundane song to me if that makes sense...like in a good way...how to describe. thisd play overhead at a good bookstore or small cafe yknow? and itd contribute to a good atmosphere. on a second listen for lyrics i got extremely fuckin into those lyrics though is the thing. lyricsways this is a good ass song about the lgbt or specifically trans or specifically nonbinary experience and i like that a lot. this is like not playlist material but its absolutely perfect "put it on once in a while and jam transgenderly a lil bit" material. tyvm for sending it to me! i wonder if i should take song recs maybe thatd be fun :? much to think about ..

wassup, ive noticed i and many others have been in need of a label for an aesthetic between punk, grunge, and dark academia. im in no way coining this term, its been around for a while, and there are other blogs on this. but im just starting to get into the punk scene and want to share my experiences, along with my love for learning and academic aesthetics. so i guess thisd be half an aesthetic blog and half personal? i guess ill havta introduce myself then.

my names myck, i also go by LaVey. im transmasc and go by no pronouns (if youre confused then he or they is also fine, i aint confrontational). im a minor, live in the US (more specifically new england) so ill complain about it a lot, fun right. im also an artist! i do digital art mostly and i like designing patches n stuff :D im tryna get to an art school when i graduate.

Amphibia Reviews: The Sleepover to End All Sleepovers/A Day at the Aquarium

Last full episode before hiatus! The Kids have a sleepover in the castle that starts like the Princess Diaries 2 and ends in unspeakable horror, while the Plantars try to spend one final day together without getting sad. Sort of like everyone these days without the final part. One last ride under the cut.

Whelp it’s the end for this batch of episodes which is sad, and i’ll genuinely miss covering these every week. Yeah I have other coverage incoming with Ducktales coming back, eeeee, and current Loud House coverage.. but it was still nice to have something to cover this summer and something to watch every week during this blighted year, as i’ve mentioned before there weren’t any BAD episodes just hard to cover ones and I think by the end I figured out how to do that.. mostly by stopping straight up recaps for more condensed ones. Point is I had fun, grew as a reviewer, and it was a good way to kill a few saturdays, sundays and one or two mondays, and that ain’t bad at all. So before we come back for halloween, let’s send off weekly amphibia coverage in style for now, unless it comes back in November and I look stupid, with this week. Let’s go.

The Sleepover to End All Sleepovers

Well this one took a turn. It was also an excellent one as we got more insight into Marcy and Anne’s friendship with Sasha, and some truly excellent horror. Yes, horror. The Plantar kids head to the castle for the evening for a Sleepover. Turns out the king finally did find something, as did Marcy who’s playing coy about what they found in the hidden library I forgot to mention last time because I was covering 4 episodes at once. Anyway King Keith David has a meeting with them tommorow. So the kids are staying with Marcie to have a fun night together while Hop Pop has a night without the kids to get something head to toe.. it’s better not to ask. They also annoy Olivia who goes off to drink.. juice. Yes the hard juice that comes with a lemon wedge and speedoed servant newt.

It’s also our ambigously gay duo’s first sleepover without Sasha, but their confident they can do this themselves while Sprig is hoping i’tll be good as his first sleepover (And has a creepy closeup about formative memories) Cue a fun montage of everryone annoying olivia and getting into hyjinks round the castle from sillys tring, which is shot from critters, to painting moustaches. It’s fun stuff. Then we go from fun stuff to...

As , in order to stay awake, as being the bastion of pleasantness she is Sasha refused to let them sleep till sunrise, Marcy and Anne initate a SCARE DARE! A SCARE DARE! is a scary dare where the person who dosen’t complete it goes in the book of losers. Which of course was Sasha’s idea, both in general concept and the dares done. What a well adjusted young lady! So naturally our heroes go into the basment they were told to stay out of. They get pass Lady Olvia because she’s passed out drunk on hard lemonade, living the dream as it were. ,Anyway they. find a bunch of tombstones, and then Marcy and Anne taking a selfie (Say desecration) wakes the dead... all because they were both playing chicken. One has to imagine how the kids talking with hop pop would go

So yeah the ghostly horror terrors chase the kids, who somehow end up in Marcy’s room. So she just has a passage from a floating graveyard contaning horrifying eldtirch ghosts to her room.. a room the king put in for her. Someone protect this child.

So our heroes soon have to deal with the ghosts but luckily sprig’s mirror catching it reveals the mirrors, which were foreshadowed earlier by a hall of mirrors leading into the corpse room, making the ghosts solid and allowing our heroes to fight htem back. Our heroes are exausted, Marcy and Anne reveal that they also chickend out on the scare dare so it’s okay, and Oliva arrives. It’s go time. Final Thoughts: A fun episode that quickly pivots into a great and nightmare inducing one perfect for spooky season coming up soon. I do generally wonder just WHAT those things are, and it’s great setup for whatever’s abotu to come. And while I didn’t mention it in the recap we also get sprig finding some sort of painting and it being of the king, a toad and a frog.. we don’t get to see it clearly so it could be someone else.. but.. it’s clear the king likely has ties to what happened before. But what DID happen before? what are those ghost things? what’s the king’s angle?

Yeah I have no answers for now on what the king’s plan is, or how inocent he is or if that’s his dad, just that something’s clearly wrong. And the omonious chess metaphor told us that.. yeah I do think that bit was kind of a mistake as otherwise while we’d probably still question the king, we would be more conflicted as evidence piled up versus “yeah something’s clearly wrong. “ Then again we genuiely don’t know what his motives or plan is or how well intentioned he is or anything other than he SEEMS nice, and that said game could be a necessary evil for all we know. We just don’t have enough information, even with the ominus bits, to truly know what’s going on and what kind of villian the king is. If he is one at all the show could pull a massive swerve on us.. I mean I doubt it he probably is evil, but I wouldn’t put it past the show. For now let’s move on so I can do more wheel spinning and what not...

Day at the Aquarium

So it’s time for another audience with the king. Turns out he and Mar-mar found out a LOT. Or Marcy did at least, as the above makes clear the king may of known ALL OF THIS already, and just needed Marcy and Anne to think he didn’t long enough for his evil plans. But we do learn a LOT about the gems, the box, and what it does as well as how to fix it...

So let’s not waste time since some of you probably don’t have episode acess this early and want to know: Turns out the calamity box is an interdimensional travel device, and, as far as the king tells us anyway, the king’s ancestors went around from world to world as explorers, possibly the group seen in the picture and just as likely the king himself hiding his role in things. Now how much of the explorer part is TRUE remains up in the air, especially since history also painted Columbus an explorer, including when I was in school, and not you know.. an idiot and a colonizing bastard. History is written by the winners after all so it’s hard to know what’s true, only that the book is likely real: While the king COULD’VE planted it to lead marcy, or had one made up, a fake would’ve been spotted immeditly as we’ve established Marcy is a master detective with batman level deductive skills. Or Elongated Man but I wanted most of you to get the refrence and his adaptation versoins so far haven’t been the kindest to ralph. Anyways, point is that con wouldn’t work on her so the book IS real, as is it’s info on the box.. i’ts just hard to tell what was left out or if this was written before utter diastaer and apocalypse insued. After all Gravity Falls Journal 3 is all fine and dandy about bill before the giant passage about bill not being trusted written in blood and Ford going into a paranoid tailspin after realizing his friend is actually a horrifing monster, literally and figuratively, so we don’t know WHAT could’ve been hidden in a nother book the king could’ve removed at any time before Marcy got there or while she was away on a mission. But yeah while we know there’s probably more to it this is sitll big information, the box connecting to 4 other worlds other than amphibia, which not only opens up the story possiblities but the fan fiction, and that each of the gems can be recharged at three temples, each one of the gems responding to a diffrent trait judging by the symbols, each representing our girls; Purple is strength, and thus sasha, Blue is Heart, Anne, and Green is Brains, Marcy. I do like thisd as it tells us more but only raises further questions, hooking the audience more. It’s great stuff. But our heroines now have a goal.. but unforutnately the Plantars need to go back and Anne can’t go with as Marcy wants her close. It’s harvest season soon and the Plantars have been away long enough. So they have one last day, though both marcy and the king are apologetic and the king offers them a large tissue and upon getting no response just gives it to them as next time we see them with it. it’s both a great gag, and a nice show of kindess from the king and possible diabolical mastermind.

So the Plantars decide to spend their final day with Anne at the aquarium, as it always cheered her up. This goes south as eveyrhting from the eels to the giant kraken to the coral reminds them of their past and leaves the poor group sobbing. Even a water show goes sideways as Sprig sees an eel, but it does lead to the group fighting off the stingrays at the show in an utterly stunning fight sequence. Not the best i’ve seen this month.. but only because I binged what I missed of rise of the tmnt this month and that show’s final figh tis an utter showstopper, as are most of it’s fight, but this is easily on par with most of them. Fluid, well done and emotoinal. Our heroes get thrown out of course, but the thought counts and they decide one last throughly them memory is better than nothing. The final scene is naturally an utter gut punch as we get tearfull goodbyes (sprig and anne forever). Their crying, i’m crying we’re all crying and Hop Pop promises they’ll see each other again. Because family always finds each other. My heart.. it’s too full. here have an apporiate song...

Let’s see how i’m doing.

Yeah so two things: I’m not going to be able to stop sobbing thinking of this scene so let’s move on and how have I only NOW refrenced gilmore girls on this blog?

But yeah the scene is utterly moving as the Plantars leave and Marcy realises something. She likely was keeping Anne close because she just got her back... but realizes she’s being selfish. It’s not SAID on screen but it’s clear both in Hailey’s voice acting and from the animation what’s going through her head. It’s utterly captivating stuff. So she tells Anne to go with them.. offically because they should have someone they can trust keep an eye on the box, which is a good idea honestly given just giving it to a royal messenger is just asking for it to be stolen. So Marcy will stay behind and prepare, and since she mentioned it before likekly try to find Sasha as she earlier stated they HAVE to find her.. and given what we see with the recharging that’s both because she misses her friend no matter what she’s done, and because she’s vitally important, while Anne goes with the Plantars to get the box and have some more time before they say goodbye forever, with Marcy coming to wartwood to pick it and anne up for the first temple. Because nothing terrible’s ever happened when a plucky youth with a sword went to three seperate temples, especially involving a guy with a beard and full plate armor.

Marcy stares off, sad her friend and possible crush is gone.. but unederstanding that this is what she needs, and that she can’t hold her here.. Anne needs to see her family off.. and we get a tearful reunion as Anne chases after them, passing her friends from “Scavenger Hunt”, and reunites with her family. But of course we can’t end on a happy moment, as we cut back to Marcy whose utterly sad.. and the King who says he has a proposition for her, one she’ll find most agreable.

But yeah we end on that bit of ominus as we close till october.

Final Thoughts: Yeah if it wasn’t obvious this was a great one. Great plot progression, great animation, great emotional hook, good jokes which I dind’t get into for time, and tons of stuff to leave fans wanting more just before the break, but without a HUGE cliffhanger. Sure we don’t know what the King’s planning, but that aside our heroes are still together outside of marcy, and we haave a lot to look forward to whenever the show gets back. I’m hyped. Your hyped. IT’s a good note to go out on, especially since last weeks eps were also excellent and it looks like things are about to pick up. When next we meet it’s an inconsequential, probably, anthology episode, though it should be fun, then whenever new episodes return, wether it be just in november or more likely in February, our heroes return to wartwood! And we’ll find out what everyone’s been up to. Hopefully Ivy didn’t leave sprig. We’ll see. Until then, you can check out this blog for more recaps, as I said i’m covering ducktales as it comes back monday and loud house whenever I can get my meat hooks on the new episodes, and until then say safe and go team venture!

me: yeah no the stuff i watch never really affects my dreams

also me: has a dream two nights in a row where mark fucking hoffman shoots me in the throat after a Very Long chase around a dream town that was basically the town i live in except it was now by the sea and there was a huge skyscraper type of building that was a??? i think a research facility of some kind??? a lot of government officials too?? military people?? idk i hid in there for a bit which was a mistake cos it was a dream and there was a huge elevator that started defying all sorts of laws of reality and physics. and i was so fucking tired!! no reason for that bitchass cop to chase me anyway, id done nothing (except i think i had in fact done... something... to make him That murderous... but ive no idea What exactly) anyway at one point i just sorta had a breather in some dark alley and went Fuck, i dont even wanna live, why am i doing this to myself, this isnt fun, thisd be the easiest fucking way to go if i let it. i think i was scared hed do something to the people i love. and also i wasnt, like, 100% sure he wouldnt do it slowly and slow wasnt the way i wanted to go. anyway i eventually made it to a rather public place - at a crossroads (fucking crossroads fuck) right by the university campus. the smug bastard had a car - nothing too obvious about it and idk if id even seen it before but it was big and black and sleek and the second i saw it i just kinda nodded to myself like Him. Ah There He Is. That Motherfucker. What A Tool. and lo and behold it was him speeding in that fucking car. tried to shoot me but fucking missed and turned a corner as i was literally yelling for him to do better, i know you wanna, try again come on bitch just do it - and a friend of mine heard me and i saw her approach from the uni campus and i yelled at her to get back, this isnt about you, you dont have to see this - just as hoffman had made it around the block (dont know why he drove all the way there and back, this was a dream). i just kinda stood there looking at him and went cmon, do it, and for a second the bitch hesitated cos ig he thought id put up a bigger fight after the whole chase thing, but it was only a second. he had that smug grin of his that makes me want to punch it right out of his face. and this time he didnt miss, shot me right in the neck. looked me in the eye as he did it and then sped away. the friend of mine whod seen me earlier came running - shes a nurse irl and was wearing her nurses uniform here - and, cos it was a dream, she didnt really do anything practical to help or call an ambulance, and i didnt die either, was just bleeding all over the place and was kinda out of it. i could stand and walk all right and the nurse friend just started walking me away. walked way further than shouldve been possible, i think she was taking me somewhere (another friends place maybe) to be taken care of and to rest. i think i blacked out at some point cos it just faded into nothing and when i came to i was still dreaming but i wasnt even sure in the dream whether or not the hoffman thing had really happened. i was in an apartment with a bunch of my friends & kept touching the side of my neck where hed shot me and there was a scar but it was all healed and no one brought it up. the rest of the dream was just regular dream weird. robbed a clothes store and wore a binder throughout. have never worn one before and in the dream i remember being like Oh Okay so this is what we do now O. K.!! all right! and my friends were like yeah yeah it is shut up this isnt the time to talk about it... kept looking for a mirror too but never found one

The Hollow review/summary/rant/explanation of why i hate the ending I wasn’t sure whether I should post this, but I did enjoy reading others experiences watching this show, so here’s mine under the cut. Edited from a convo with a friend.

(Obviously, spoilers!)

Me: Okay so to properly express my disappointment i gotta take you through the major beats

The show starts with three teens waking up in an almost empty room, finding out they all have amnesia. They quickly solve a puzzle to escape the room, and just as quickly Adam and Mira realize they have superpowers (superstrength/agility and some weird 'speak to animals/know all languages' hybrid, respectively. also she can breathe underwater and swim really fast. its kind of vague)

Kai is already clearly a comic relief, discount Ron (from HP, the movies, no idea about the books) so me and sister correctly predict he'll get jealous of adam and miras relationship (even if there is none), gets pissy and jealous that he has no powers, but then finds out he has powers anyway he does, hes a fire bender. cant say im not bitter about that cause id put my money on invulnerability but eh its alright he has red hair after all hes still fun

Friend: Of course he is

I just feel bad is all aldjs

Me: adam gets a throwaway line of 'maybe were dead' and kai never lets it go

this food might be poisoned but im starving and hey were dead anyway! right, adam

Friend: I love him??

Me: i loved him as soon as he spoke his first dumb words also he puns but basically hes the only interesting char; adam and mira are just cookie cutter 'male lead 1' and 'female lead 1' i mean, he’s cookie cutter ‘jealous 3rd wheel’ but that has more going on than the first two still servicable though

anyway so the jokes are sometimes fun, and superpowers are always my jam. but the REAL reason to keep watching is just, whats going on? ARE they dead? or in some kind of weird gvnmt experiment? some weird magical vampire guide (dont ask) hints they wanted this themselves ooh, intrigue. and the world is very very quirky they start in a gravity falls-y woods and then get teleported to a desert with minotaurs and witches, then get invited for tea by the Grim Reaper and the rest of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse

tbh Grim is the best part of the show but thats neither here nor there

anyway they have a magic map that updates once theyve been somewhere, and it shows them that the hot dry desert and the swampy wood bunker are like right next to each other

so you start thinking, how are they gonna explain that? this is too weird to be handwaved away. theyve gotta be going somewhere

they visit some other exotic locals, like what appears to be the set of Alien (complete with alien) and an abandoned old fair and a floating island with japanese inspired evildoers on it

the weird magic guide keeps showing up and being vague, dropping hints that there are other kids there etc

at some point Mira says "This is no time for games!" Weirdy: "Thats where youd be wrong~" me and sister: Aha! videogame! that connects all the dots, and also makes the tropes clear: small world with all kinds of different areas, quests, fights, superpowers, an updating map, fast travel Adam, a few eps later: guis i think we might be in a videogame me and sister: [high five]

Anyway in the meantime also the second predictable Kai (discount Ron) plot happens: they meet three other kids (boy boy girl) and they act shady but the girl takes an immediate and obvious interest in Kai so obviously theyre gonna manipulate him and have him betray his friends but in the end he'll see through their facade and kick their ass that more or less happens. The other teens also confirm that this is a game, and theyre trying to win. winning is done by bringing the MacGuffin to a tree fights over macguffin ensue situations are dire but our characters persevere

(also Mira kisses Adam and he acts very weird about it, almost as if hes gay and the only reason they didnt make it canon is censors) (no lingering gaze, just him going 'hehe yeah no thanks, its not you, its me', but in a very... he doesnt seem to be saying it with shall we say burning desire in his soul. hes literally just like 'eh youre a good friend.' Cool move, cartoon that made the two main boys have arguments over nothing cause of course the two main guys have constant dick measuring matches)

this all is not the offensive part btw it was all fun and games, its just a flash cartoon i wasnt expecting Shakespeare

anyway so theyre in a videogame, and apparently thats the answer to all the weirdness. A bit of a cop-out, cause thats a very easy answer, but eh, it works. it wasnt immediately obvious.

also something i hadnt mentioned yet: thisd be ideal for making (self-insert) OCs. Unique powers for each person, there are clearly more characters than shown, the world is your playground

and maybe the video game thing could be interesting on its own in the last few eps the game seems to be glitching out a lot they say its breaking apart so they really gotta hurry now maybe they were beta testers for a vr game gone wrong maybe this is part of it but its like a huge experience that you tell all your friends about anyway there are ways it could be cool, could be expanded to a season 2 despite having solved the mystery

but. last episode. our heroes get the MacGuffin, go to a final stage, and fight the Boss Battle (its a dragon). they enter the Castle....

...and the screen zooms out, into a sudden live action stage, where we see the cartoon (literally what you were just watching) on screen. there are 6 chairs, 3 with our heroes, 3 with the other teens, presumably. theres a host and hes dressed exactly like the weird guy (and that was already kind of a clashy outfit in the cartoon). it was all just a game show. but. the worst part is the live action

you. dont. go. from. animated. to. live. action.

other way around? fine, can work. But now? WHY itd still be dumb and dissapointing but if itd been animated too itd at least have been.... nice to look at but the acting.. oh god they didnt even say anything and it was all wrong clearly theyd just picked the first random teens that vaguely looked like the chars and put them in there cause they had no lines so who needs acting?!

the enemy teams girl had, in the cartoon, pink hair. Purple with pink highlights instead of stylizing that into something more realistic or painting the actual hair, they gave some 30-year old woman a wig and called it a day

keep in mind i binged this show in one go

purposely stayed up late to watch the last ep with my sis even tho we shouldve gone to bed and were disobeying our dad cause we Had to Know

and theres more i said they had no lines but i was lying. Kai did have a line. well, his voice actor did they dubbed him also the line was about him having to pee which is already not the most hilarious in animated version but a live action kid whose supposed to be this character you spent 3 hours with but looks nothing like him saying that in a voice that doesnt belong to his throat, as he stands bashfully in front of a live audience, the only words spoken by your main characters in the last moments...

*its actual hell*

oh oh one more thing at the end the six kids stand in a line and kai is next to other girl they glance at each other and as the eyes of this teen and 30 year old in wig cross, her eye glitches for a moment

dun dun duuun

bUT i dont care anymore, The Hollow. You overestimated your own premise. this wont be forgiven. your most interesting part was the mystery, and the answer to that was "just a normal game show" (which also doesnt make sense on another level smh) soo if you think that im interested in what these two-dimensional (ha) characters will do now about the glitch in the eye of a bitch then i have news for u

...if they get a second season ill probably check it out though as long as its animated

Friend: Gammi I'm getting the real sinking suspicious feeling that what you saw isn't the real end but bad on purpose because there's more to it

Me: the show didnt seem good enough to be bad on purpose

and yet im still not done, if youll still hear me out

i mean, im an animation fan so ill still watch but if theyd wanted to be bad on purpose they really shouldve done a better job fleshing out the characters thats what people come back for that was a bit of a sidetrack BUT so i said why the live action itself was just terrible in overal quality

but the resolution that 'oh it was all in a game show' doesnt work on multiple levels

first of all, they show a short flashback of "About 5 hours earlier". The kids stand on the stage and are instructed to take their seats in the vr-chairs, and pick their superpower

2 things i dislike about that

1) there goes all the self-insert/oc potential. they werent teens in over their heads, they werent gvnmt experiments, or just some kids who wanted to play a game -they were in it to win it, from the start. thats very specific and not the most appealing to all kinds of characters (goodbye, all the 'im just an average girl whod never step into the spotlight like that' characters).

Also, all the expansion on lore is gone. maybe there were other games simultaneously? eh, maybe, but theyd be all gameshows. Maybe someone ended uo trapped there for way longer? nah its just a gameshow theyre not gonna let anything actually bad happen. Maybe there are other worlds, other areas, other weird creatures? unlikely, they finished the map and familiarity seemed to be a thing for the audience. Now every new idea has to be put not through a 'whats interesting for a player' but a 'whats interesting for a viewer' lens, and whats a selfinsert if not a player in another universe

2) HOW IS THIS A SUCCESSFUL GAME SHOW

who the hell watches a game show for 5 consecutive hours, some of which mustve been just them walking. also, we zoom out of the screen were watching, so implication is that everything up until then has been what the audience has seen. but... we only followed the one team. there were two? why didnt the audience want to see what they were up to? ~reality tv usually thrives on showinf the worst assholes so realistically they wouldve been the focus~

There are also way too many times *both* teams couldve failed, from early on till late in the game. Not a single game i can think of thats played for an audience is set up like that, and especially not a televised one (okay tbf idk if this was televised, i dont remember if i saw cameras, but. it mustve. monetary reasons.)

What r u gonna do if they all 'died' from the monsters in the first ep? Call it a day? boring for the audience. let them restart from scratch? boring for the audience. the existence of an audience messes with everything

AND THEN ANOTHER THING what do you mean, "5 hours ago?" you never get a time stamp to show how long theyve been in there but there are some cuts, when they travel and such. The actual show is a lil over 3 hours runtime. You mean to tell me you sat through 2 hours of the characters just walking?

okay last thing. so. they were clearly second season teasing with the glitching eye thing. i already said this but. theres nowhere to go from here that isnt worse that the first season. your mystery is dead. you clearly know your live action teens cant act so youd have to go back into the game - but why would they do that? how would that be in any way interesting? you explored all there was to explore.

The other, more out there option, is that as you said the 'real world' was a fake-out and theyre still in a game. but. how would- how would you even make that remotely convincing? if youd just left the 'real world' gameshow as animated too this wouldnt have been a problem. but there is absolutely no conceivable reason to justify, in universe, why another meta-level up is 2D animation again unless they were in a game, in a game, in a game. and thats just dumb. yall aint inception

Friend: HONESTLY if they just kept the whole deal animated it'd probably be okay. Not good, but better,

Me: ye me and my sister came to the same conclusion

i couldve lived with that. at least, i couldve just acknowledged the finales existence but chose to ignore it. now however im full phantom planet levels of denial. in fact i dont even know how the show ended anymore, suddenly

Friend: what finale? what show?

Me: also at least now we know why its called The Hollow

Rant timmme

So I’ve blocked the person this is about bc they sometimes splurg on my Tumblr page and knowing me, thisd be the day that they do that.

Basically, a friend of mine from high school and I are…idk if its a falling out or if its subtle hints they dont want to know me or what. But, here is a rant dedicated to them.

So I met them in Grade 8, 9? We hit it off right away and I could talk to them about the stuff that was bothering me at the time. They were amazing and I respected their boundaries as much as they respected mine.

In Grade 9, when my mum was sick, I didnt have any friends in my class bc the school separated the three of us bc I was too distracting (the one person I did sit with was legally blind so I was helping them with stuff they needed help with, something her aide never bothered to do) and I pretty much isolated myself from everyone bc it felt like no one was on my side, especially all the teachers who failed to see my deteriorating interest and health to be anything but “its because shes fat”.

Anyway, I told this person that I was suicidal (I think I said that if God wont end my life soon, I’ll do it for him? Anyway it wasnt hinted, a went into my plan a little bit) and they brushed it off, saying that I was fine and when Mum was better I’d feel better.

Fast forward to Year 10. Still suicidal only no one was listening. Self harming now too. But thats not their responsibility.

What was their responsibility was not to become a Grade A bitch.

Throughout the year they ignored me, and caused my closet friend to burst into tears on multiple occasions. They refused to sit with us and would rarely talk to us. Another one of their friends was also suicidal and self harming, and they were taking it more seriously with them. Whenever I tried to organise something (catch up in town, meeting after school, etc) they’d always forget and either not show or show up so late and have to leave early so there was no real point in meeting up at all (I’d have to be in town at 830am agreeing to meet up at 930-10, and they’d show up post lunch and leave about an hr afterwards and I’d be stuck there until 6-7)

What really hurt was that for my 16th party, I had invited about 10 people to lunch. All but one forgot, and when I called this person they said oh I’m sorry, I forgot I’m at netball and then I’m going to other friends house. Raincheck?

So yeah. Pretty devo.

Then at our Grade 10 formal she refused to sit with us, take a photo with us, and caused my friend to, yet again, burst into tears. Two days later, we had an explosive argument and I cut contact.

When I came back from the UK (about maybe 6 months after this argument?) They wanted to catch up and I said fine.

Didnt say a word to me. Hugged literally everyone but me (they hated hugs all throughout high school and they didnt offer and when I asked for one they turned me down) and, surprise surprise, spent all the time talking to the same girl from high school.

(Side note: the other person is really sweet and I’m not shitting on them, more my friends behaviour when it came to interacting with literally anyone else but her)

So, we had a shakey online relationship forming, and when I organised a meet up in town the same things happened as they did in high school.

Fast foward to Grade 12, my 18th party. I had two, a dinner with family and friends and a day in town/sleep over with my mates (to make up for the dinner which scared the shit out of me). They forgot the dinner. They forgot the party (we called several times before I called her Mum and practically forced them out the door). Which is fine except it was my 18th, and they had done it for all bar one of my birthdays)

Then, when I came down from Melbourne I always asked if they wanted to meet up and they always forgot. That whole year was shit for a multitude of reasons, but their lack of support offline was one of the shittiest things that happened.

So, now we are in my first year of Uni. I pay for them to go to Melbourne with me (I paid accomm and I think tickets? Well i got free accomm anyway) and had planned for us to do a ton of stuff.

Didnt want to do any of it.

And just like when I went down from Melb, when I came down from where I am now, they’d always forget when we were catching up.

On top of that, I offered to let them stay at mine during a local con that happens once a year and they didnt tell me until I came down to grab them to walk them home that they found other accomm! And then didnt ask if I wanted to catch up post con or whatever.

Anyway. Last year they commissioned me to crochet them something, which I did. I finished it and we agreed that they’d pick it up at my 21st bday party.

Anyone see the trend?

They fucking forgot again. I sent the multiple messages during the lead up to the party and they still fucking forgot and then asked if I was in town the following day to drop off their blanket.

I was fucking livid. So I said no (which was the truth) and told them that I gave it to my parents for them (my friend) to organise with my parents to pick it up from their (my parents) work. (Fun fact: it still took them over six months to collect it and it was only after spamming them and threatening to sell it and then them running into dad that they did then collect it).

I also told them they needed to call me at their earliest convenience.

That was in July. Besides the messages about the blanket, I refused to message them until they called me. Which they haven’t.

I dont know I think I’ve never been an important person in their life? I mean, they forget everything and never take what I say seriously and I dont like making plans with them anymore bc I know they rarely remember. Am I being too dramatic? Or is it justified?

To be honest I’m terrified of never speaking to them again but my heart always gets broken when they forget me and even though they are super important to me, clearly I’m not important to them. And I feel incredibly shitty about that because idk…I feel like I’ve lost a lot over the past three years, especially in the friend department.

But yeah. No climax with this one, just a rant ended I suppose.

ok ive decided Kysroa is fine as a name because honestly, whatever. Kysro as a a word (and not the name of the Goddess) probably has some additional meaning, and its less about Kysro being the head of state and more about having her protection.

theres other stuff i need to deal with. like, for instance, are Divinitians actual native to the region or did they come from elsewhere?? ive sorta decided theres a group native to the south of the region (modern day Kysroa) who were big supporters of the independence movement and from whom the Revolutionary Leader came (she needs a name). but where did the Divinitians come from? how many southerners are there?? are they the majority in Kysroa?

i think probably? however they do have a sizable ethnic Divinitian population from before the civil war (somewhat diluted but many people would still identify with that label) and due to their trade with other former Divinitian states, there is a general diversity in the population. for instance, the western port would be incredibly diverse due to its nature as the sole way in and out of Kysro (due to the closed border with Divinice and the inability to cross the southern mountains without risking the spread of That Funky Darkness). itd lessen the further out you get from that point. the capital is likely diverse. Black River is almost certainly solely inhabited by the native population (call it a stubborn refusal to abandon a place theyve called home for centuries, even in the face of fucking dark god gargoyles. damn). which would mean theyd have greek influence since Thalia comes from the region buuut its not hard and fast by any means. its quite possible non-natives moved into the area in recent years in an effort to help the people living there, allowing for a spread of culture. plus there might be non-natives who had lived in the region prior to it becoming black? idk. i like having flexibility in terms of which culture acts as inspiration.

but again. where are the Divinitians from? the fact Divinice serves as the capital of the empire, and that the Empress (aka the embodiement of Ylais) stays on this peninsula implies theyve lived there for centuries. and it would explain why the southerners only started chafing as Divinitian demand for their resources started to outweigh the freedom of their people. but theres also the possibility, ad what i think would be interesting, is that the Divinitian empire initially started elsewhere, and they relocated in accordance with their beliefs?? if the idea is that eclipses are incredibly significant, then them moving to a location that lets them see it better makes sense. perhaps the intent wasnt initially to move the capital, but after settling the northern part of the peninsula, they went ‘hmm damn thisd be perfect’ and it just sorta gradually became a thing. or it ITSELF declared independence for a previously existing entity that had colonised the region, and then began the Divinitian Empire in direct contest to its original owner. with the native southerners going all ‘listen if we give you some jewels will you like........ leave us alone? cool’

cause the issue is that if Divinice was actually a colony, it wouldnt be the crux of the Empire - it’d simply be a member of it. it wouldnt be the Empire of Divinice, itd be the Constituency or State of Divinice within the larger Empire. so in order of Divinice to act as the center of an Empire (thus justifying the prescence of the Empress and her Temple Maidens) it has to either be a full on migration of a previous country (basically picking up and putting back down of a people group), a previously dependent nation that sought its own independence in goddamn antiquity, or they were always there.

the full on migration actually sounds interesting to me. perhaps they fled disaster, or war, and established themselves on this peninsula with the understanding blessing of the locals. after all, they share the same religion, albeit from a different perspective, so there is commonality (sorta like..... protestant and catholic?? i guess? the same foundation upon which a differing understanding is built. with the kysroans worshipping Kysro and the ylaitians worshipping ylais). theyre essentially sympathetic. they help this group of people settle and build homes where they can live, and in time even to establish whole cities for their people. meanwhile these religious kysroans (and etnic Whatever the hell their name is, boyo) are chilling out further south. the two groups are very close! everyones chill! then things start getting a little weird when perhaps the straight up leaders of their original homeland arrive and start running the place. they establish an Empress, which at this early stage is likely an actually hereditary, human held position. even at this stage, the Empress is still “the personification of Ylais”, but again. hereditary and good fun. the natives are a little perturbed, but since worship of Ylais is in theory wholly compatible with worship of Kysro, theres no broad conflict. and then when Maidens start existing (possibly as a direct result of Ylais following her “people” to the peninsula and being forced to interact with Kysro, thus brokering their short lived peace for the benefit of their people) things are still fine, and in fact get even better, just based on magic progression.

then, at some point, the peninsula is declared Divinice, with a variety of local southern leaders agreeing to the union on the basis that it will benefit the south in the long term, with the trade connections of the seafaring Divinitians. this doesnt really come to fruition, and infact the south is left worse off after the christening of Divinice, as the elite in the north seek to expand territory. many southerners are conscripted into their armies, ruining families and communities. worsip of Ylais is emphasised more and more. and then, of course, theres an eventual discovery of a huge ore deposit or something in the mines down south, which drives demand up and standards wayyyy the fuck down. everyones kinda fed up now. then they refuse to allow maidens to perform kysro-centric blessings on miners or anything related to mining (ie tools or what they gather) and thats when the south goes ‘yknow what. fuck you. what the fuck’ and thus the civil war begins.

i think i like this idea. with the northerners interested it what lies out on the horizon and the southerners more interested in the mysteries under their feet. both initially friendly and compassionate, but shit getting bad with more people coming in and deciding they had more power. and if the southerners had fought with exactly the same tools as the north, they wouldve been! except they didnt, because southerners went ‘whats the point of magic if i cant use it to kill a man’ and sent willing maidens into battle to absolutely demolish the Divinitians. get rocked. and the southerners could easily have laid claim to the entirety of the peninsula, based on the fact theyve lived there the whole damn time, but they actually decided that they were fine to stay north. also because the Maiden Empress at the time bent over BACKWARDS to appease them. full and immediate independence, land concessions,COMPLETE backwards to prevent the total removal of Divinitians from the peninsula. preventing what caused them to come to the peninsula in the first place from happening again.

actually on that REAL quick. the Divinitians (which is almost definitely not their ethnicity, just their nationality) probably came from the east. which then explains their subsequent expansion westwards after the establishment of the Empire of Divinice, if the whole point was that they were afraid of the eastern powers. it then explains why Kysroa is friendly with the western Divinitian states, because theyre in a similar boat. theyre chill.

anyway this tab has been open for like 3 hours so im gonna shut this down. uh tl;dr in the way distant past, a people group from the east of the peninsula were driven from their homeland by something or other (possibly for religious regions, possibly because their leaders were complete assholes, anything is possible) and found themselves on the northern shores of the peninsula. the inhabitants, sympathetic to their plight and sharing a religion, allowed the refugees to establish towns and homes in the north, provided they didnt do dick things. with time. they did dick things. they established the Empire of Divinice, which included the south (to a lot of confusion and vague aggression, but their general shared culture made it. fine??). Divinice expands further. magic occurs. shit gets whack. the south goes ‘actually no, fuck you??’ and bam. an independent Kysroan republic on the same peninsula as the capital of the Divinitian Empire. and THEN. that Kysroa is majority of the original peninsula ethnicity (whatever that might be), with more diversity the closer you to get to its sole port city in the west. Divinice is broadly speaking more diverse, but is definitely the hub for its ethnic group, originally from the east.
