"Only in the darkest depths of fear can true courage shine" is obviously about Mob but I keep thinking about it in reference to Dimple's actions in Mogami arc. He was so scared! He started shaking like a leaf as soon as he recognized Mogami and he begged Mob & Reigen to leave, but he STILL faced Mogami head-on in Mob's body as a distraction and voluntarily entered Mogami's mindscape to get Mob out! The trust conversation hits even harder when you remember that this isn't an abstract danger they're up against; it's an entity that Dimple has very specific trauma about!

"AT ANY COST" ????????
My distrust of Steel has been super vindicated ohhoHO man.
Like, on the surface it SEEMS that everything is on the up and up. Steel is telling Suvi exactly how the plan will work. She's recording their conversation. She's praising Suvi by calling her "brilliant" over and over.
But that's what makes the Geas even more sinister, imo. Not only does Suvi not have the option of saying "no" -- but it's arguably one of the worst things that could be done to her specifically. Yes, Steel is laying out the plan step-by-step. But she's not telling Suvi exactly what hiding this music box is supposed to do. She left that very crucial detail out.
Aabria has said before that Suvi can handle just about anything as long as she has all the information. In this very episode, as Suvi struggles to remember the compulsion being cast on her, she says: "I know, and that makes it okay" before surrendering.
But she doesn't know, does she? Not really -- not the knowing that truly matters. It was stolen from her. Aabria literally describes the whole process as "an obliteration of agency and understanding." And worst of all, Steel tells Suvi she must follow the orders she'll have no memory of receiving "at any cost".
Not only does Suvi risk running afoul of the witches, she also may be harmed by the very spell her beloved guardian put on her. There is a chance, however slight, that Suvi could die.
And she would die without truly understanding why.
I have no doubt that Steel loves Suvi deeply. But she is, first and foremost, the Sword of the Citadel. Before Steel and Suvi are mother and daughter, they are soldier and commander.
"You will do this. And it will work."

hey guys remember like a few days ago when a good chunk of this fandom thought ed and stede weren't going to reunite until like the very end of the season, or at least that they were going to spend a big chunk of the season separated? and then the full trailer dropped and suddenly we got all this footage of them in the same frame interacting and everyone realized how unlikely those predictions are??? and how literally just a tiny bit more detail changed everyone's perspective on things?????
anyway yeah maybe we need to all think abt that for a minute and like. rethink the way we're treating certain theoretical s2 plot points as if they're a given.

What do you think about mamiya? I find the blackrose arc very confusing but also so cool id like to know your point of view on him
mamiya is very interesting to me in what he has to say about the show's concept of eternity, and in the ways he parallels anthy (usually by, you know, being anthy. but also mamiya himself.) he's admittedly not much of a character, as he's dead before the show starts and only appears in a few scenes, and mostly he's there to give more insight into mikage and what's up with him (which says a lot about the themes in the black rose arc in itself.) but what mamiya says about his sister keeping roses alive and how he wonders if they like being made to last longer than is natural, is so intriguing to me. it implies a lot about how he views his illness and life in general, and it's very different from most of the other characters. mamiya correctly identifies eternity as a bad thing and does not want it. he seems accepting of his own death, which is in stark contrast with how both tokiko and mikage feel about it, neither of them seeming to actually respect his wishes and agency in the matter (rose bride moment.) and the fact that when he does die it serves to let tokiko escape ohtori while keeping mikage trapped is so interesting. it really shows how important it is to be able to move on, again something none of the other characters understand yet.
mamiya says at a later point that he does in fact want eternity, but i have to assume this is either anthy manipulating mikage, or mikage misremembering/projecting his own feelings on to the memory of mamiya. but the things the real mamiya says likely do reflect anthy's own feelings about being the rose bride and her eternal suffering. especially if you believe that anthy literally cannot die. (i don't think i personally do, but it adds another layer to this.)

i think something that frustrates me about ted and rebecca even beyond the whole no-romance thing (crying forever btw 😢) is that they never really got to have a coherent storyline together again after s1 and the christmas episode, and uh ..... i think it would have been cool to have more of those shared between the two leads of the show. like, in a way, i think i would have been more okay with it not being shippy if they'd had more storylines and more of a definitive overall series arc together, because presumably then at least we would have seen them interact regularly enough and in a variety of conditions enough that i would've gotten more of a feel for why it wasn't a romantic thing and what, in fact, it was? i don't know! i just really wish they'd given that dynamic wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more to do and way more interest after s1. it just felt like they were deliberately written to be ships in the night, all the time, no harbor ever, which feels crummy. like, s1 sets them up to be very close friends with these parallel struggles, but then they barely have even a shared b-plot together ever again after the christmas ep. the closest thing is one shared scene followed up by one phone call in 3.08, right? and then the series finale, where they do actually finally have three whole related scenes together, shock of all time.
anyway. so weird. SO WEIRD! such a funky writing choice that i am not a fan of.
