Random Feyd HCs?
you said random so prepare yourself 😭 also i went way too far into this, the amount of research i did into the first few hcs alone is insane
feyd has a thing for imported cheeses and wines. giedi prime does not have the correct atmosphere nor natural resources to make soft, delicate cheese. the planet doesn’t have any photosynthetic potential, no room for grazing animals (let alone grass and greenery) and is so polluted that those who come visit are stuck with oxygen concentrators and advanced oxygen masks. almost, if not all food is imported from other planets: slig (a cross between a giant slug and a pig) from tleilax (feyd didn’t like it much, it was too sweet and not game-y enough for him.), milkbugs (arachnids the size of a small hand) and turtlebugs (sweet insects) from harmonthep (he didn’t like either. bugs weird feyd out and he doesn’t like looking at them.), paradan melon and pundi rice from caladan (the melon was just okay, but feyd loved having the rice with gyrak (heavily seasoned meat from zimia) as his post-arena meal.).
now let’s get into the wines. champia from rossak was something he only drank at dinner parties and official meetings. it’s a cloyingly sweet white wine, and bubbly, which feyd thinks is the only thing that makes it bearable. it’s too flowery and heady for him to properly enjoy. feyd has a high alcohol tolerance, but champia has a way of getting everyone wine-drunk quicker than they think. zincal is a very popular wine from caladan, which makes it the most accessible to the harkonnens. it’s a light red wine, clean and woody and cherry-like (cherries are one of feyd’s favourite fruits, he likes the acidity of them and enjoys chewing on the pits.) it’s a basic wine that feyd neither hates nor loves. now casyrack? his absolute favourite. it’s a dry, intense red wine, that needs to be aged. less than 5 years and it tastes thin and harsh and not at all enjoyable. it needs to be drunk before it’s eighth birthday, but feyd prefers it aged seven years exactly. it’s velvety and rich, with a smoky, spicy aftertaste that leaves feyd’s stomach feeling warm and his head pleasantly thrumming. it’s not popular across the known universe, leaving thousands of bottles sitting idly in the atreides family compound. feyd had to pull a lot of ropes to get a steady supply of the smooth wine.
now, cheeses. again, feyd is not a fan of sweet things. he likes his food salty, bitter, sour. thick cottage cheese is a yes from him. not the runny type and it specifically needs to be made from sheep milk. while he doesn’t like arrakis in general, he has a secret fondness for the food. feyd loves aged camel milk cheese. it’s rich and creamy with a clean finish and pairs well with meats. on that note, camel meat is one of his favourites to have. he eats all his meat bloody and basically raw (like.. feyd… it’s basically still alive…), but he likes how fatty the camel meat is, leaving it tender and juicy. he also likes thick cream cheese made with goat milk. feyd stuffs the cheese into dates and then rolls them in spice as a special treat for not killing too many people who pissed him off during the day.
feyd loves dark chocolate. he doesn’t like sweets and only enjoys them on very special occasions, which is why dark chocolate is so perfect for him. it’s hard to source, but when he’s able to get it imported he does not share with a single person. his favourite would be the 99%-100% cocoa bars. it helps make him slightly more manageable and puts him in a better mood.
he hosts the best parties on the planet. they’re exclusive and elusive, and all the harkonnen elite want nothing more but to be invited to a feyd-rautha party. supplies the guests with the best alcohol and food one can get their hands on. he generally sticks with his pets, stroking their skimpy, scantily-clad bodies while he drinks his wine. he doesn’t have many friends, but he has acquaintances that he has to keep up appearances with, so feyd is sure to make his way around and greet (threaten) everyone.
ends up fucking one of his pets over a table at one of his parties and ‘accidentally’ starts an orgy.
elite music taste. only knows bangers. gatekeeps the good stuff though.
has a blood kink and would willingly eat you out on your period if you’ve behaved. in fact i feel like he’d be more inclined to eat you out even if you haven’t been the best, purely because he is bloodlusting and wants to taste iron on his tongue.
on that note, would be into wound-fucking .. 🤷

Crowley S2 Hair Post #30
(For reference: The Sideburns Scheme)
Crowley, Good Omens 2, Episode 2, The Clue, Mr. Six Espressos in a Big Cup
...
Sideburns Check
Tumblr media
The sideburns are still short. Crowley's still in a human space. The preceding cut showed the first touch in The Pocket Trick. The way those touches work is that they have a designated Touch Point in which the threshold-only touch happens.
...
Brighter Red Streak Check
Tumblr media
The brighter red streak is more evident than the preceding cut, especially when Crowley has a left profile view in front of Nina. In fact, it might even be two streaks, but admittedly, the potential streak further to Crowley's right is harder to tell if it is actually a streak.
...
Hairstyle Changes
Tumblr media
The hairstyle is much like the preceding cut. The hair splits somewhere on top with the hair that is going to Crowley's left curling up and down toward the top hair. Meanwhile, there is more hair going to Crowley's right. This time, it tilts slightly stronger to the right.
Otherwise, it's a little darker and lower in saturation, at least partly due to the change in lighting.
...
Earthly Objects
(For reference: Earthly Objects | The Pocket Trick - Basics | The Pocket Trick Touch #2 - Triple Part 2 - Between Cars | Rainbow Connection Part 1 - The Pocket Trick - Triple Part 1 and Intermission with Nina).
Crowley's pocket touch is understood to still be active even though the scene does not show his actual hands. The Tied Hands are visible. The preceding cut had a threshold-only touch for the pocket, but those touches have a specific video frame I call the Touch Point.
Otherwise, the game treats this understood touch as acceptable for Crowley and Nina to interact.
Crowley and Nina each get one line before Nina addresses Crowley as, "Mr. Six Espressos in a Big Cup." That's a name and a number. By then, they have a standard set between each other for the rest of the interaction. The interaction will still have more questions and Maggie's name said.
...
Now for some more pocket trickery that's not the actual next touch of The Pocket Trick yet.
So far as The Pocket Trick is concerned, this scene is a special intermission to alert an audience player of what to look for on how the Tied Hands retie.
I think all other retying scenes with Crowley standing show Crowley's actual hands, but I won't swear by it. This scene does not show the actual hands, the vest tips, the belt, the watch, the pants, or the shoes.
These are the things I've known to look for, though sometimes I forget a particular one because the mechanics are so complex and overwhelming:
Tumblr media
The main thing I really, really look for is one of the clasps on one of the strands to hit the edge of a lapel on the jacket. That's my top priority. When I cannot more definitively find such things, there tends to be a little word puzzle, like the found "smoke and mirrors" one after Crowley shot out lightning in episode 1.
In this intermission, there is a pocket formed between the jacket sleeve and torso with that clasp striking the jacket, but I can't find such a thing every retying scene. Previously in this episode, a pocket between the legs and bottom of the screen is what I used as guidance for my stronger guess on the actual strike to the lapel edge.
With the scene cutting to Maggie, the face of her watch is visible. So, with that in mind, I look for the face of Crowley's watch in other retying instances.
Nina lines up her right thumb joint by Crowley with a vertex and extends her fingers. This one is what I tend to forget most, but when I remember to, I look to see what Crowley's thumb joints are doing. For when I do check, I tend to find at least one thumb joint touching the jacket at some point.
Something that this intermission does not tell a player is to look for Crowley's index finger to "make a point" since the actual hands are not seen here. Not every retying instance has that happen, but I've seen it enough that I still look and can usually find something else in its place. For example, drafting this post, I checked the walk from the coffee shop to the bookshop in episode 1 and found Crowley's right middle finger making a point while touching the plate of Eccles cakes before shifting away to show the index finger. The index finger then does not as obviously make a point but is still at least partly visible.
...
Other pocket-relevant things that happen is that the Rainbow Connection switches from Orange to Yellow. This intermission does not provide a red alert. The switch is instead found by observing the framing of Crowley with yellow lights behind him. These lights also help clue a player in for what to look for regarding Overhead Lights for Crowley's actual head. Overhead Lights for the Threshold Tricks, when applicable, go above the ear and to Crowley's left.
The Pocket Chain of The Pocket Trick allows things to happen. The cut of Crowley walking away from Nina and seeing Aziraphale will not have building windows visibly in it. However, this scene does, so as a player, I'm taking that as Crowley using the Pocket Chain for this intermission. The next Pocket Frame is going to be Cars, and a certain building's windows will also have a special role with that frame during that cut.
Nina is implied to touch her pockets as well even though it's not technically confirmed on camera.
...
I haven't been mentioning my tangential reading in my desperate attempt to improve my play, but it is still happening. For The Sandman, I decided to just borrow the rest of it all at once from the library if I could. And I could. So, I picked up volumes 5-10 today and started on volume 5.
Otherwise, I'm also continuing with the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. My current one is Moving Pictures, which is #10 out of 41.
...
Story Commentary
The plotting of Operation Lovebirds continues.
Crowley asks Nina how she feels about sudden rain and the likelihood of sheltering under an awning.
Nina gives him a sarcastic response, expresses her disinterest in Maggie, and complains to him about her partner.
Crowley replies, "Gotcha," which has an extra meaning in the Earthly Objects game since she helped him out with retying his Tied Hands.
Despite Nina's words of Maggie not being a thing, Crowley's still developing his plan to play matchmaker. Coincidentally, he'll earn himself several window points in the process.
Even though Maggie and Nina will rightly criticize Crowley for interfering too much, it is rather sweet and cute that he attempted asking Nina about the rain before he did it, in my opinion.
The Pocket Trick is silly. The Tied Hands are silly. Upon realizing the Tied Hands existed, I speculated the Tied Hands untied at the end of the previous cut. Eventually, I questioned if this scene showed the Tied Hands retying. Crowley says, "Silly question," to Nina right after that clasp hits that edge of the lapel on the jacket. That's funny because of my silly question for if the Tied Hands retied here, which, yes, they did.
That's it for this post. Sometimes I edit my posts, FYI.
...
The next post will take awhile since I'm probably going to redo the post for The Pocket Trick Triple Part 2.
I hope I can somehow include that touch, at least better summarized or referenced, with the broader scene it's part of since I think the whole thing is really, really important.
Another likely reason for delay on the next post is I might prioritize reading the rest of The Sandman.
...

need an age regression/de-aging fic where a post-KH4 riku has to take care of a younger sora, and bb sora is just completely awestruck over how strong and kind and pretty (and tall!!) his best friend riku got… and is so transparently smitten that riku, who is actually dating present-day sora, is just like: wow we really were oblivious how did either of us miss sora’s glaring crush on me??
#soriku#i’m picturing like… sora right before kh1 or post-kh2#old enough to have butterflies over this other riku but not quite old enough to know what it means yet#just a puppy crush#there’s angst potential too if it’s kh2 sora before he found his riku#so he throws himself sobbing at older riku#but a BBS sora bouncing around teen riku would be very cute also#anyway i would write it myself but i don’t have the time#also am not confident about writing children#i just want riku getting to see firsthand that he wasn’t the only one pining for years and years#and that sora always loved him even at his worst#8yo sora doesn’t care that his riku teased him sometimes he still wants to play games with big riku#10yo sora doesn’t understand why his riku said they’re too old to hold hands#and is thrilled that big riku is happy to give him hugs and ruffle his hair#kh1 sora doesn’t care about their old ‘rivalry’ or that his riku was working with maleficent#he is just overjoyed to learn that riku came back to the side of light and that they get to be friends again#kh2 sora is loud about how much he missed him and very impressed by how far riku has come as a keyblade master#(also blushes when he sees him working out and then is confused as to why)#(i am thinking of that one manga panel where sora talks about riku’s “big arms” and how he can carry big logs by himself lmfao)#any of these soras would follow a cool older riku around like a duckling and be wowed by everything he does i am convinced

The problem with BOTW is that it's obnoxiously popular in the LOZ fandom to the detriment of other games but also unfortunately it's genuinely really really fun to write fanfic for.

botw was a good story about coping w/ tragedy, the dangers of expectations and pedestals, and how to live after disaster
totk could have been such a good story about generational trauma, coming to terms w/ grief, and how to really on others after a life time of being alone but it just...wasnt. it had so much potential to build on the themes of botw and give a good thematic close to zelda and link's archs and it set all that up but just...did not

It is Once Again Time To Complain About Things That Don't Matter
Tumblr media
358/2 days is definitely one of the better written kh games, but don't let that fool you. its not like the bar was very high to begin with (i am only partially joking).
i love days, but there is so much wasted time and space in that game. i despise how much characters fainting, falling asleep, having amnesia, and gotdamn brainblasts, are constantly used as plot devices because the writers don't know how to organically move characters along to the next plot point(this goes for all of kh, not even just days). the entire novelty of days is getting to play on the bad guy's side while getting an intimate look at all the cool badass org members, and yet you hardly get to know any of them over the course of the game. barely any time is taken to flesh them out, which is a complete travesty btw, and even axel- who is one of the major supporting characters- ultimately takes a backseat to roxas and xion's emotional angst. its good emotional angst, but theres no reason for it to overwhelm the entire game. and honestly, even roxas himself takes a backseat to xion's even bigger emotional angst! roxas hardly gets to know who or what he is, whats going on, or what for. roxas is a complete passenger, and as time goes on i struggle to see the value in that, even if it does feed into the overall themes of his story and his own emotional angst.
Tumblr media
because, look: xion was a passenger as well; she had no choice in her situation, only the illusion of one that riku offered her. and yet, she still was allowed a moment of agency. roxas tried to do the same after xion's death by going to kill the organization(which frankly, he could've killed every last one of them- get real), riku stops him and refuses to explain or reason with roxas to get him to consider another way. riku just proceeds to taunt him. whwhy i find it hilarious that riku took pity on xion because she reminded him of kairi, but the guy who's literally his best friend's nobody whom he is currently fighting to save-... he acts like a bitch to, and refuses to give him any of the same consideration that he gave to the girl. what the fuck is that
what is with the complete and utter disrespect of roxas in his own game- >>specifically<< by the people who should be his allies. remember that bit at the end of days where roxas is about to leave and confronts axel for answers, and practically pours his heart out begging axel to help him?? axel refuses to tell him who sora is and that he’s sora’s nobody, etc. ok.. maybe he’s afraid of getting shot by the organization because it’s classified information. no, fuck that. its a major part of axel’s character is that he puts his own desires and wants before his job or duty. and! he also cares a great deal about his friends, even above his own wellbeing. he helps xion escape the organization when he was on that mission with xigbar. he didn’t even have an excuse to protect himself when xigbar interrogated him for letting xion go- axel could’ve gotten shot then and there for helping the traitor. he straight up put his neck on the chopping block for xion’s sake.
Tumblr media
so then, why now with roxas, does he refuse to do anything at all to help him? he’s done shit before like lie to roxas in a vain attempt to make him happy- axel cares about him! he wants to help him, especially when hes sad- and in this final moment, roxas is in complete despair. axel could’ve very easily been like “well i cant tell you,, but maybe some other guy could… uh idk his name starts with an R”. god almighty it would’ve been so easy to just nudge roxas in a direction while still covering for himself if he was still worried about that. but no, completely out of character, axel just abandons roxas to possible execution(of which he would likely be the one to carry out) by the org for rebelling, without even giving roxas the slightest lifeline to find the answers that he deserves.
man i just lost the entire topic going on an whole ass side tangent…. what even was the topic to begin with idk im complaining about days. i'll proceed with a spicy hot take! get ready. when xion died, all memory and evidence of her existence shouldn't have been erased. yes. as depressing of an idea as it is- like, her friends aren't even allowed the luxury of cherishing her memory when she's gone, i think we all know why it was a bad move in the long run. xion getting wiped from existence was a poorly veiled excuse to avoid having to explain why nobody talks about her in other games- while also just straight up being able to get away without really mentioning 99% of what happens in 358/2 days to begin with. even as a kid i knew this was shit and i still think it's shit now, and the fact they had to pull a memory wipe trick like this is even more proof that the writers of kh are absolutely abysmal at tying their stories together or thinking ahead at all. or more like, they shot themselves in the foot daring to implement important plot details into spin-off titles in the first place. chain of memories started this trend, and even that game had to pull the memory wipe trick at the end of the game so as to not stunt players who didn't happen to own both a ps2 and a gba.
Tumblr media
its a really asinine trend that has indisputably ruined kh with each installment. like, you can't be serious. in order to understand the main villian's(xehanort) motivations, i have to play 2 games and a casino, to have a full understanding as to why this old fuck wants to blow everyone up. for the longest time, i didn't understand why xehanort was concocting this decade long masterplan to attain kingdom hearts, UNTIL i happened upon the kh wiki. this is so sad you cant make this shit up you can figure out within the space of kh1 why ansem wants kingdom hearts. he's a power hungry mad scientist that went batshit insane in pursuit of knowledge. a classic victor frankenstien-esque character archetype. its so easy! I understood that without issue even as a child. too bad they couldn't just do that again with the next major villian! tbf, even xemnas' goals were extremely simple-...... until they added in the bit where he was lying to the entire org about them not having hearts or the ability to feel and yadayada... what was he trying to accomplish with that stunt again? don't get me started how stupid xemnas lying is. you've gotta be shitting me. like, are you saying that intelligent scientists like zexion and vexen wouldn't figure out such an obvious lie? what about lexaeus? luxord? really?? these aren't stupid people. at least one of them would have figured it out. would've been a good opportunity to give marluxia a reason to have been trying to pull a coup(besides wanting power???) because he figured out xemnas was a manipulative fuck and marluxia decided to take initiative and overthrow him. i love marluxia, but damn, the entire time i was playing com i had no idea what the fuck his motivations were.. why does he want to take over the organization... was that ever mentioned? …huh
Tumblr media
but wait wait, i just went on another massive side tangent. i want to go back to talking about xion. i would've much preferred if we got to see moments of roxas and axel struggling to come to terms with losing one of their only friends. like, how would axel handle being completely powerless to save her, and frankly unable to even be there in her final moments? maybe he would've turned on the organization much sooner, because how could he ever continue working for the group that split him apart from the 2 people that really matter to him. that'd be interesting. roxas could eventually cool down, and simmer into a depression AND NOT GET THROWN INTO A SHITTY SIMULATION BECAUSE RIKU SHOULDVE BEEN NICER TO HIM. huh what- and maybe roxas might feel inclined to give up, but meeting with namine could be some reassurance to him because she tells him all that stuff about how he won't disappear and there's hope for nobodies like them!! honestly, just seeing the characters having to grapple with the pain of their past and actually talk about it instead of vaguely wincing about things they feel but can't remember would've been so much better. i get it, it's a mildly entertaining trope- characters suffering emotional wounds they don't remember receiving, or acting in strange ways in deference to old traditions they can no longer recall... yeah i get the appeal, but it doesn't make for a very strong story in the long run, especially with an event as major as xion's sacrifice. why can't characters be allowed to grow from their past and have character development. i like it when a character's history influences them in meaningful ways that isn't entirely superficial.
Tumblr media
heck man, idk. you get the point. days is full of amazing ideas and has a fantastic premise, but like all things in kh, it struggles to hold up as soon as you examine it with the barest amount of scrutiny. thanks for coming to my ted talk.

6, 12, 30 for the writing asks ^_^
6. What’s the last line you wrote?
Shaking its head in what seems like disbelief before meeting his eyes again, almost like it wants to say something before it makes a noise like a growl, "oh, you're one of those seraphs, aren't you. A star-eater. No wonder you act like you've lost your mind."
(ignore that that's a couple sentences, the Thought is important)
12. Do you outline your fics?  If yes, how detailed are your outlines?  How far do you stray from them?
Oh yes! I outline my fics thoroughly. Though, I do allowed myself to deviate as much from the outline as I feel like when things go off the rails. Some snippets of planning from a couple fics & concepts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My outlines are very... One for one. With some exceptions. I tend to basically write a very brief version of the fic and try to get the feelings and words right before I actually write it. This is... Also why it can and will take me a month to write a oneshot. I try to get things Right.
30. How much do you edit your fics?  Do you edit as you write or wait until you finish the first draft?
So! I edit them a bit? I edit while I work, but often I don't really touch anything I've already written unless it's something longer that might be taking a few months to get through. I think the fic I've edited the most is the prologue of Artificial Stars, which was originally a quickly written 2k oneshot into about 5k of actually decent fic.
Usually I don't edit to make something shorter/more concise, since I tend to only come up with more ways to bridge concepts when I go back to it. Also to be fair... There's usually no difference between first draft and final product. I cannot be asked to edit my fics after I write them, I just release them to the birds and pray for the best. (Unless I actually decide to show it to my beta reader in full instead of just sharing snippets as I... usually do.)
Conclusion: Rarely, those thangs are being given to the world as-is unless something is horrifically wrong with them
#ask a ghost#asker: solxr-planet#ask game#i get a little silly sometimes but also uhhhHH!! welcome to several things i havent posted about before#grey notes is an oc thing that will never be finished but i still have the line-by-line dialogue between two characters that is.#kind of how i plan dialogue? at least how i outline it.#i'm super picky with it and i plan stuff so much that you can usually tell pretty quickly when something isn't planned#ALSO!#scene titles!#nobody sees them ever but theyre there for me and me alone#usually theyre song lyrics or something i think is important to the concept but also other times theyre just kind of silly#“all the candy you can eat” is a song title from one of my favorite albums.#honestly i think this is the first time i've shared anything of my writing that is even remotely roshambo-centric#i am still learning how i want to write & characterize him so its a bit funky#haunted bookshelf#purely for the random stuff that's in there#also! i started breaking things up into scenes rather than just chapters and it helped a hell of a lot with my process#since it's easier to divide when there's a lot potentially happening in a chapter of something#or even just in a oneshot#my process is. definitely made for the way i write. i don't think i would ever recommend anybody do what i do with my fics#also yes i could actually just edit my plans and call that a fic because really that is the effort i put into them.#theoretically you could call my outline my first draft because really that is the way that it is

I have a Sonic spinoff game idea
Ok so. It's a turn-based rpg inspired by dnd, bc I have an itch to play rpgs and also I'm still mad abt them not doing anything with the dnd stuff the official social media posted abt months ago
The story is essentially a battles and badniks (dnd in sonic's world) campaign run by Orbot. Sonic and co. hear abt it somehow (possibly through an invitation?) and decide to check it out thinking it might be one of Eggman's schemes, but nah. It's just a straight game Orbot is running for funsies. Not exactly sure what the story of the campaign would be, but I know it involves Sonic being a villain bc he deserves to let loose. Also Eggman and Sage would be minor antagonists, basically like rivals to the party that they meet and fight at certain points. The main party could consist of Amy, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow, with Amy possibly being the de-facto main character and with more characters joining the party later on
The game is divided into two types of gameplay- in-game segments that look like your typical high fantasy rpg, which take up most of your playtime, and out-of-game segments in a similar style to a visual novel, which are a lot shorter
The rpg segments play like a mixture of your typical turn-based game and ttrpg. The party is on a quest of some sort, exploring the world of their game, meeting people, visiting various villages and doing small side-quests along the way. The party can encounter enemies in areas between villages, which they battle in a similar manner to most games of the genre, by selecting the actions each character takes. BUT they have to roll their dice to determine how well they perform the selected action, which is the main gimmick of the game. They can also perform checks to lessen the effects of certain actions taken against the characters in battle or to determine how well certain actions are performed out of battle, which in some cases could affect how the story progresses so each playthrough is kind of unique. There's also an exp system, in which exp is gained by defeating enemies and performing side-quests
The out-of-game segments serve to give a bit of extra exposition to the player (like setting up the actual campaign and showing why each character is playing the role they are playing in it, stuff like that). There would be some moments in the rpg segments where the campaing is interrupted by these segments, mostly used for gags at first until later into the game where some interpersonal drama happens
Both segments would have different art styles, too. The rpg segments would have a 2.5d pixelart style while the visual novel segments would have a style similar to tmosth. Since this is a hypothetical game, I'd throw in voice acting too, but if it were real I wouldn't expect there to be any
Each characters' class would be the same as seen in this post, and they'd have different names and slightly different appearances to the "real-world" characters playing them. Of course their outfits are different to fit the roles they are playing, but their actual physical appearance and age could be different too, all depending on how they were made by the characters playing them. Amy's character specifically would essentially just be Paladin Amy from Sonic Dash and Speed Battle. Not really sure abt the others tho
The endgame would be to redeem Sonic's character, who as I said earlier is the main villain, and also figure out why Sonic would choose to play the villain in the first place (spoiler alert: he's stressed as fuck and wants to not be seen as a hero for once). They also gotta stop Eggman and Sage from causing trouble. Fun hijinks, dnd-based jokes, (possibly) some high fantasy horror, and plenty of character drama ensues

Eileen’s Madness and the Bloody Crow (Theory)
It’s interesting to note that Eileen’s dialogue about Bloody Crow is not as vicious sounding as one could hear it in the English.
Tumblr media
She doesn’t actually call him “that thing.” Clearly, the translators must have seen “What lies beyond” or “Beyond here” and thought that the “object” of that sentence was in direct reference to what Crow actually was. Eileen was referring to what lay beyond in a general sense, not “a thing lies ahead” in the manner one would speak of a incomprehensible monster. Bloody Crow is not a “thing” to her, rather he is her prey once again.
Now what’s interesting is that Eileen calling Crow “that thing” in English can make it sound either incredibly impersonal or very personal. She could be calling him that because he’s merely a mindless killer that ruthlessly attacked her, and therefore monstrous, or she could call him so out of pure vitriol. If the latter, we would have to assume that he was special to push Eileen to that level of anger. Her saying that it was her score to settle adds to the personal feeling we get from her fight with him.
But now…knowing that type of speech doesn’t exist in the Japanese, it would be easy to assume it’s not personal. However, I still feel like it is nonetheless, albeit with less anger than we might imagine. For one, Eileen calls Bloody Crow her prey, but absolutely does not bother to explain anything about him. When telling us about Henryk, she explained that he was an old hunter that went mad. She also has no trouble speaking to us about Gascoigne, and her warning about Henryk is very straightforward. “He’s my target. Don’t go over there because he’s dangerous.” She’s warning you to be careful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once she realizes you killed Gascoigne, she also just recommends keeping your hands clean even if you’re clearly strong.
But with Bloody Crow, things seem different. She doesn’t explain who he is, she doesn’t say he’s mad, and she only says her wound was a mistake or slip-up. But again…no elaboration on any of this. She just says not to interfere, which seems like it’s because she wants to be the one to kill the Bloody Crow. Now it could easily be because she doesn’t want you to get hurt, or because she wants to suck it up despite her old age, but the problem is…if Bloody Crow were just another blood-drunk hunter, wouldn’t she explain that to you and remind you to keep your hands clean again? There’s just this lack of communication on her part this time around.
Before it was, “Hey, Henryk and Gascoigne lost their heads, but don’t worry about trying to kill people like that anymore. It’s my job.”
This time, we have a strange situation where Eileen’s prey is another Crow apparently, but shows no evident signs of madness. Meanwhile, Eileen tells you to stay away and not interfere, but with no warning or explanation about her prey. Plus, Bloody Crow was obviously powerful enough to actually wound her. This is actually a big deal. Even in her old age, Eileen is shown to still be adept enough to be able to take on your typical blood-drunk hunter, and risks doing so. Bloody Crow broke that trend. He’s different from the rest.
Now, it could be that she just randomly found him and attacked, thinking he was blood-drunk, was beaten, sees you, tells you to stay away, and offers no backstory because she doesn’t know anything about the Crow.
But…to me that doesn’t make sense. Bloody Crow is silent and precise, he shows no signs of blood-drunkenness. Henryk and Gascoigne did. They yelled and growled like animals, and Gascoigne even transformed. Crows stands in place and does not leave his arena. He fights with caution and exercises his skills in combat like a fiend.
So, why on earth would Eileen attack him? She’s not stupid. She knows exactly what blood-drunk hunters are like. Bloody Crow doesn’t fit in with them. He’s too coherent.
Let’s also not ignore the huge elephant in the room. He’s literally suggested to be a Vileblood, or else a pretty high-standing resident of Cainhurst. But he’s just hanging out in Yharnam’s Grand Cathedral like it’s nothing.
Seriously. Based on his absurd strength, his use of the Chikage, and the rune he drops, it’s very possible that he is a Vileblood via Annalise’s blood or maybe a relative of hers at least. He uses Numbing Mist, which is a recipe kept secret by the Cainhurst nobles in particular, so he had to have been of Cainhurst aristocracy at some point, either by descent or induction.
What’s weirder is his use of the Hunter’s Bone and how his Repeating Pistol suggests a connection with the Healing Church and their hunters. The Hunter’s Bone is the most baffling thing though, because using that tool to recall the art of quickening is something the Dream hunters would have done. Maria and Gehrman’s generation could quicken without the one, but hunters that pass through the Dream use it to recall the skill. This implies that the Crow either had access to the Dream, or still does.
Oh and, one more thing…his rune suggests that he could have also been hunting blood-drunk hunters himself, which means that he could have been a Crow for that reason, or rather, was manipulating the position in order to hide his blood dreg hunting. Either way, his entire aesthetic is bizarre and is connected to three different factions.
My theory is that he definitely was a Crow, but could have been manipulating the role, and along the way, he decided to grow stronger by adopting further methods of combat. He and Eileen both dreamed at one point, so that’s probably when he got the bone…and his pistol could have easily been acquired from some blood-drunk church hunter he killed.
But now back to the dilemma we have with his and Eileen’s quest. So…assuming our theory above is true, and taking into consideration a few of the following things—
He isn’t evidently blood-drunk.
Eileen must know this and therefore probably knows/hunts him for some other reason. (Remember, she calls him her prey).
The odd little detail that he doesn’t chase her down to finish her off (he literally refuses to leave the cathedral, which suggests a hesitance/lack of determination in regards to Eileen).
With all this on the table, then why are they fighting each other?
This is why I think it’s personal and we aren’t meant to know the full story. Eileen’s lack of explanation, Crow’s appearance/connections/identity, Crow’s failure/refusal to finish Eileen off, Eileen fighting him even though he isn’t drunk…it all contributes to the feeling that they had something going on. And I feel like I have an even stronger piece of evidence to seal this off.
It’s Eileen’s madness at the end of her quest if we don’t help her.
Ever wonder why the hell Eileen just suddenly goes insane in the cathedral if we don’t do her quest? Ever wonder why she specifically says that the hunters must die to stop the nightmare/madness? Ever wonder where Bloody Crow is in this scenario?
It raises a LOT of questions, but I think I have an idea of what the answer may be.
Our quest with Eileen is essentially about our persistence to aid an older warrior with a grim task that most hunters likely wouldn’t feel comfortable doing. Eileen tells us to stay away and keep clean, but we don’t listen. We keep pushing and eventually she relents because we prove ourselves to be reliable. We literally save her skin, likely earning her trust and allowing her to let her guard down before giving us the badge. We build trust, we establish an unspoken bond.
But if we don’t help Eileen, who does she have to turn to? Who could she ever pass her badge to? She’s the one that tells us about how most of Yharnam has turned. There aren’t many humans left, and in the midst of it all, Gascoigne and Henryk both go mad. Their whole family dies off. Eileen is essentially alone and without allies. There just aren’t enough sane hunters left, so her mantle is in danger of being lost for good. We can imagine this leads to a strong sense of isolation and dread for Eileen. Her duty, her legacy…it’s all at stake, and she’s alone, aging, and wandering amid an almost apocalyptic city. Add on top of that the endless suffering surrounding her and the insanity that overtakes the remaining survivors when the blood moon descends. It’s horrifyingly grim, and I don’t doubt it could send anyone into despair, no matter how resistant they are.
Now imagine Eileen is dealing with this, and she comes across Bloody Crow, an long-term enemy, though possibly once her apprentice. If she has no one to pass her mantle to, then she has to survive the fight with Crow. Failure isn’t an option.
I think that’s what sends her mad.
She wins. She summons up the rage and energy she needs to defeat him, because she has no other choice. But it leaves her completely alone, grieved, and in utter despair. It gets worse if you consider the possibility that they had once been close. That would break someone.
So, then we find her in the Cathedral, Bloody Crow dead and gone…and her duty twisted into insanity.

These words are specifically targeted towards hunters. The blame is on hunters.
“Hunters must die! They’re all drunk! End the nightmare! That’s my task.”
It’s her Crow’s mission, but deranged and almost vengeful sounding, as if she’s blaming hunters for the nightmare. She demands their blood. They’re all drunk.
And you know what? I’m betting money that these words were the exact type of rhetoric that Bloody Crow was spewing out before Eileen killed him. I think Eileen takes his place and his goal after killing him. He probably was meant to be her successor, but something happened and he despaired, blaming hunters for the nightmare. He wanted their blood, the blood of echo fiends…that was his task. His cold, calculated excuse was given through his Rapture rune. As a servant of the queen, the blood of drunken hunters was exactly what he needed.
I think it all ties together, that Eileen’s words and behavior in the cathedral reveal the answers about Bloody Crow’s motivation. I still don’t think he was blood-drunk, but rather mad in a different way. It was a cold fury that had possessed him and drove him into becoming a vengeful monster that slew hunters wherever he could. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had been a big part of the reason why there were so few hunters in Yharnam by the time we arrived. Crows are trained to kill hunters. They’re extremely dangerous, and a rogue one? That’s terrifying. Eileen probably was obliged to hunt him for a long time. They had a score to settle, rooted in betrayal and anger. A battle between the young student and his master. (Keep in mind, Bloody Crow’s vocal data is the “youthful male” set. He sounds young, and I must wonder if that was intentional).
But I’m also wondering if perhaps they still held back due to a previous bond, and that’s why Eileen loses if we follow her quest. I think she had hope that not all was lost, and that she still could pass her mantle to someone else. So, she didn’t give into bloodlust and madness, then she lost and escaped, basically sparing Bloody Crow. Then we appeared and slew Bloody Crow for her, healing the rift for good. That’s when Eileen gave us the responsibility of her league of hunter hunters.
And who knows, maybe Bloody Crow even held back by not ensuring her death, and that’s why he isn’t still attacking Eileen by the time we arrive. Maybe his anger was directed towards us simply for being another “drunken” hunter that he needed to kill.
This is of course, speculation, but Eileen’s dialogue when she loses her mind seems so telling. It feels like we’re meant to see what the despair of a HOH looks like, and perhaps receive a glimpse into Bloody Crow as a character. Why else would Eileen suddenly lose her head and take BC’s place if we never aided her? I just think it makes sense that her isolation, her lack of a successor, her survival of the blood moon, and her killing of the person that may very well have been her old apprentice would all be contributing factors to the state we find her in. It makes so much sense story-wise as well.
It also would reveal a really interesting key point in the overall lore of the Crows as well. There’s something elusive and elite about this faction. They seem almost immune to the beast plague because of their strength and skill. They don’t need to worry about the beasts because they’re too busy worrying about the warriors that hunt the beasts regularly. They’re on another level.
So, I think exploring the idea of, “Okay, but what drives them mad? What does that look like?” is really fascinating. The answer seems to be “hunters.” Hunters become the problem and source of a Crow’s madness. This is just so unique because of how many other characters in the story go insane because of the beast plague, or the gods. It’s the eldritch horror that drives others mad, but for a Crow, their weakness is other humans. It ties directly into their mission.
Anyway, I’m definitely starting to ramble here so I’ll just conclude this by saying: I think there’s more to Eileen and Bloody Crow’s quest line than meets the eye. We just gotta follow the subtle clues laid out along the way. We are experiencing the story from an outsider’s perspective after all, so we don’t get many answers, but I think the end results of our choices drop hints about what happened. Eileen’s madness and Bloody Crow’s absence being the result of our lack of involvement doesn’t seem like a coincidence. We change the story by choosing to fight for Eileen.

Populous, the progenitor of the god game genre, came out in 1989
35 years later, in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty-four, the genre hasn't evolved much beyond either being a wizard mayor or a cosmic baby sitter
