I mean, that's only exactly what so many of us have been hoping for. I don't want to overhype it to myself, because a lot of my satisfaction will depend on the story and characters (I adored these in Sun/Moon, whereas Sword/Shield had some very endearing characters but a weak story), but oh gosh, imagine being able to explore a Pokémon world as freely as you can explore Hyrule! The time is almost upon us! I hope we all have fun!

I don't wanna assume I'm getting the new pokémon games for Christmas, since that would only lead to disappointment, but I have high hopes!! I've never really been invested in a game pre-release other than ACNH, but even then it was still pretty similar to it's predecessors. Pokémon Sword was my introduction to pokémon and I'm very excited about maybe getting Scarlet :3

[Repost] Mario Pokémon Trainers Series
---
Almost a year ago, I started this mini drawing series, where I drew the eight well-known human main characters from Super Mario in outfits of the player trainers from all Pokémon regions, in (almost) their official 2D art style, by Shigeru Miyamoto. It's actually hard to capture the full essence of the 2D art style, so I could only get as close as I can. But I think I did okay.
The inspiration behind this series was the stickers from Mario Party Superstars, and since I had been drawing so much Pokémon and missed drawing some Mario, yeah this was the result.
Three months of work, and I did all of this before on computer mouse so it's no easy task. Although after I did Yoshi, I closed off this series and moved on to making more Commissions and finishing my own projects. Despite that, these still get the attention of many in DeviantArt, not so much on Twitter anymore cuz these are literally my first art entries in that site.
I chose a Pokémon from the region assigned to each character:
Mario - I chose Kanto for him, as well as Pikachu because the first Generation is the mascot region of Pokemon, reflecting Mario being the mascot of Super Mario ofc.
Luigi - Johto is actually a region beloved by a lot of people, and Luigi is almost the same, sometimes even more preferred than their counterparts. Although Chikorita's there cuz... green.
Peach - My origin region Hoenn. I chose Skitty for her cuz pink and cute, and perfect for a princess like her.
Daisy - Ironic for a Princess living in a hot biome to be assigned in the coldest region, but at least she has a shiny fellow warm-biome friend Luxio.
Wario - Unova, like Wario and Warioland series, two things that only get the love they deserve way later. Picked Tepig for him, although there are other Unovan Pokémon that'd fit along.
Waluigi - The least loved region, paired with the unloved Luigi Clone. Inkay is due to its evolution method, which also alludes to Waluigi's emblem being an inverted L.
Rosalina - Frankly it's due to the Minior why I assigned her to Alola.
Pauline - Same thing with Grookey that's why she's assigned to Galar.
Yoshi - Someone begged and guilt-tripped me nonstop from the comments in DA, that's why this thing happened. 😑 This too is why I had to strictly implement the "No Free Art Requests!" rule.
Will the series continue? Apparently it did because of this commission. But again, I don't intend on voluntarily continuing this series. So if your character didn't came out, you can always commission me :) ...

If you're interested in a commission from me, [do check here] for details. Or you can check my [Carrd art commissions.] Or you can DM me too.
You can support me via [Ko-fi] and/or [Patreon] too!

POKEMON + MCYT = POKEMCYT LET'S GO
Scott, you'd think he'd be an ice type, right? NO he's a GODDAM FAIRY TYPE DUDE, but his partner pokemon is ice type. HE'S A CUTE MYSTICAL FIARY GUY WHO GETS ROPED INTO STUPIDNESS CAUSE HE LIKES THAT PRETTY BOY IN THE MAIN GROUP AND THEY'RE HEADING IN THE SAME DIRECTION WHY TF NOT! (also no starter pokemon, he just rawdawg that stuff and caught one through emotional connection)
Jimbo had a mess of rock, fighting, ground and his starter pokemon is grass and it's Grookey , BUT he thinks it's fighting type cause its always hittinf stuff, and he hasn't figure out that maybe the monkey like DA DRUM. Also he is said pretty boy.
AND SCAR HE'S GONNA HAVE A MESS TO. BUT HE'S GETTING A TYPE NULL. And then like 2 cat pokemon, 2 baby pokemon who he thinks is cute and an eevee that evolve into ESPEON. AND YEAH THIS MATTER CAUSE GRIAN OVER HERE GETS AN UNBREON.
also grian gets a fire starter cause Jimmy and Grian grew up together and Grian always wanted to have the "strongest" pokemon so he pick one with a type diff against Jimmy. But he finds it funny Jimmy hasn't realised he pick a grass starter.
SCAR AND GRIAN HAVE A MOMENT AND THAT'S HOW THEY FIND THE TWO EEVEES. AND GRIAN IS FOREVER SALTY HE DIDNT GET THE ESPEON CAUSE HE WANTED THE STRONGER TYPE, AND SCAR IS CONFUSED WHEN HE GETS THE DARK, DEPRESSIONED CAT CAUSE HE WANTED CUTE.

you should make pokémon teams for prsk characters if you haven’t already! like, what would you imagine for rui’s team?
i think about this every day of my life.
LEO/NEED-
Most of Leo/need's partners are simply companions- Ichika and Shiho know a bit of battling, and Honami has been gettng better at it, but they're really just in it for the friends! Saki does love watching Pokemon Contests though (especially her brother's :)) Also lore wise I think they have encountered Jirachi before. (It fits so well... starry wishes...)
Ichika- she inhereted the family Maractus after taking such good care of it as a kid. Maractus loves to dance along while Ichi is practicing rhythm guitar! Almost like a spiky metronome haha. I can also see her with a Furrett, but I don't have a reasoning other than vibes.
Saki- her partner all through childhood is a yellow Minior! A fragile yet beautiful star glowing through the night :) Minior doesn't battle but it is a good friend!!!! I also think Saki would really like Pancham for some reason. All of her pokemon have nicknames, and now all of Leo/need's do to.
Honami- I don't know what to tell you Appletun was literally made for this girl. It follows her around to her housekeeping jobs and helps make really sweet apple dishes! There was also a Grookey she encountered often in elementary school but never had the courage to catch. The pair reunited a bit after the formation of Leo/need, and officially became part of the team! Grookey quickly evolved into Rillaboom (she really likes playing drums with Hona). Honami's mother has a Blissey, who sometimes goes with Honami to housekeeping jobs as well! (Blissey really likes Kanade)
Shiho- her first Pokemon was a Toxel that she absolutely adores. Toxel evolved into a Low-Key Toxtricity around middle school! People are a bit intimidated by him, but it's mostly just a front. Toxicity is a very protective Pokemon and the strongest battler in Leo/need. She also has a Bunneary that is very near and dear to her. Pampered little princess. Nobody at school knows Bunneary exists. She also takes care of the family Kantonian Vulpix, the little sister of Shizuku's Alolan one!
MORE MORE JUMP
Pokemon Performers! Probably more of the Kalosian variety than Hoenn/Sinnoh, focused on the true performance of it over any sort of battling. Similar to the main story, in which Haruka, Airi, and Shizuku are all popular but disillusioned celebrities who meet Minori, a hopeful fan who dreams of being an idol, too. They reignite their dreams through the Power of Friendship.
Minori- her first partner was an Eevee! The two of them would watch Haruka's performances and try and replicate them constantly. Eevee doesn't ever want to evolve and Minori completely supports that. Just because Eevee is a normal type first evolution doesn't mean it can't pack a punch! She also has a very very energetic Yamper. It's more of a family pet than a true partner pokemon, but she loves it just the same! I also think Minori would have a Tatsugiri but I cannot figure out lore reasoning why. I think she just would.
Haruka- Haruka is SOOOO Prinplup coded like I do not know what else to say. Piplup was her starter that she absolutely ADORED. Thinks it's the cutest thing ever. Prinplup was there for her during her lowest moments and has always been a responsible, guiding light. Haruka has since also caught an Eiscue.
Airi- Personally, I choose to believe allergies do not exist in the Pokemon world because it would be heartbreaking to not be able to pet all of them (all of them). Also so Airi can have a Skitty!!! Skitty is a spunky thing that has great performance chemistry with Airi! They were popular on variety shows since Skitty is so dang cute. Ever since joining MMJ, Airi has been working with Skitty on learning to battle (for real, not scripted like the past).
Shizuku- Her family had an Alolan Vulpix that became her partner at a young age. The agency made her evolve it into a Ninetales "to better fit her image", even though Ninetales wasn't quite ready to do so. Still, Ninetales is really happy to be around Shizuku and often helps make sure she doesn't get lost. Shizuku loves pokemon a whole ton, but was only allowed to have one partner with her old group. After becoming part of MMJ, she catches a Slowpoke because she thinks its really cute. (Airi finds this fitting.) She's also caught a Feebas that evolved into Milotic!
VIVID BAD SQUAD
VBS are all battle trainers! Singing is still all their main passion, but hey! Why not have some pokemon battles there too? Vivid Street has a huge music and battle culture because of it. Since a lot of VBS's story centers on partnership, they each only have one main partner pokemon, but still work best within a team setting. They often do double battles!
Kohane- MORPEKO. SHE IS MORPEKO. innocent yet menacing hampster creatures.... there is nothing else more to say here. It is correct. (Count Pearl is her dad's Ekans who Kohane loves very much and everyone else is terrified by, btw)
An- she would do well with a Luxio! An would absolutely be an electric type trainer, and Luxio just seems like a good fit :) She grew up with Shinx, a gift from her father, and he evolved into a Luxio sometime around middle school? Luxio's the type to get An out of her own head when she starts feeling insecure about her own abilities. Also An puts little star clips on him during performances.
Akito- he chose Scorbunny as his starter, and the two loved playing soccer together! Scorbunny really loves being on the stage, even if it wasn't the best performer at first. Scorbunny has always stuck by Akito's side, no matter what. Scorbunny evolved into Raboot a bit before VBS formed, but after meeting Toya. It then evolved into Cinderace during the (equivalent) events of Burn my Soul!
Toya- he was raised alongside a supportive yet quiet Riolu. Since the Riolu line is able to read emotion, Riolu was often the one to realize Toya's own feelings before he could. Riolu, with Tsukasa's help, was the one to push Toya to leave classical music behind. Since meeting Akito, Riolu has evolved into a formidable Lucario. (It's a secret, but Souma has been trying to track down a Lucarionite for him...)
WONDERLANDS X SHOWTIME
Wondershow are all Pokemon Performers! Tsukasa started because he saw how much they made Saki smile (even though he could never get past the appeals round, he kept trying). Emu loves the energy, and since her family sponsored most competitions, she could compete often! Her style is very. wonderhoy. Nene wanted to be a performer, but after an embarrassing mistake in her childhood, gave up on that dream. Rui was banned from most competitions for "too dangerous of combinations" so often performed on streets (this doesn't go well). The four end up banding together to perform as a unit!
Tsukasa- It's a bit of an unconventional take, but- Ampharos! Tsukasa has always been a guiding light to those around him, so why not the Light Pokemon herself? Ampharos is equally confident and dramatic as her partner. They make a good team. Despite all his pegasus-ness, he does not actually have a Ponyta or Rapidash. He does like them a lot, though.
Emu- she sooooo has a Tinkaton. Small pink thing massive hammer complete life satisfaction. I'm also giving her a Stufful because I love Bewear and I love Emu, and because pink thing that is a menace.
Nene- her starter pokemon was a Popplio! Popplio is a lot more outgoing than Nene and tries his best to get Nene more comfortable in social situations. Popplio evolved into Brionne a bit before the fated show, but after her and Rui drifted apart. Brionne then evolved into Primarina after the Little Mermaid show. Instead of Robonene, Rui had created Magearna for Nene. Magearna acts as Nene's own personal protector, which she finds very sweet. She tries not to think about the implications of Rui creating an actual living pokemon in his garage for her.
Rui- his partner has always been a Rotom- a mischievous little thing! Rotom helps out with Rui's inventions, and is a great help for shows. It was really just them two for a very long time- though Rui absolutely adores everything there is about Pokemon, he doesn't really think any wild pokemon would really want to be his partner (other than Rotom). Rui does end up befreinding and eventually catching the lonely Gengar haunting the Wonder Stage. (Emu adores Gengar btw). He's also taken a liking to the back alley Sprigatito...
NIGHTCORD AT 25:00
Nightcord is still just Nightcord here! Mafuyu is still expected by her mother to be a human doctor, but deep down she really wants to be a Pokemon nurse, even if she doesn't quite realize it herself. K is still a musician with pokemon to support her, Ena is still a struggling artist who now has a partner by her side, and Mizuki is still Mizuki! They don't perform or battle.
Kanade- She has an Audino that helps take care of her! Audino is incredibly patient and makes sure Kanade is eating and resting (decently) enough, and sometimes helps compose or inspire melodies. I also think her mother had a Shaymin, who she inherited upon her passing.
Mafuyu- Mafuyu didn't have a pokemon partner growing up ("too much of a distraction from your studies!", "pokemon battling isn't a real profession, it's much better for you to be a doctor", the likes). However, since meeting n25, she's secretly gained a Galarian Cursola, a Froslass, a Trevenant, and a Hisuian Zoroark. She is an absolutely terrifying battle opponent. (Later on, Kanade gives her a Happiny egg from Honami's Blissey, totally not sparking some sort of nurse-aspiring reaciton...)
Ena- SMEARGLE. NORMAL TYPE ARTIST POKEMON. Smeargle definitely paints right alongside Ena! Smeargle is super sassy and an absolute pain to deal with. They get along quite well. Having each other inspires the other to keep painting, keep going, keep getting better. They respect each other a great deal.
Mizuki- their first Pokemon was an Eevee, a gift from Yuuki! They loved brushing it's fur and making it all soft and fluffy. Eevee chose to evolve into a Sylveon during Mizuki's second year of middle school. Around their first year of middle school, Mizuki encountered a male Raltz, who later evolved into a Kirlia. Everyone expects Kirlia to evolve into a Gallade one day, but he secretly dreams of becoming a Gardevoir. One day....
VIRTUAL SINGERS
because why not. this is already insanely long i can make it longer. (project voltage my love....)
Miku- Pikachu on account of the mascot, Arceus on account of the versatility and legendary status, and Porygon on account of the computer!
Len and Rin- Plusle Minun! I've drawn this.
Luka- Honestly, I can so see her with a Togekiss. She has such fairy type trainer vibes.
MEIKO- Houndoom! Specifically one that mega evolves.
KAITO- Vanilluxe. easy choice.

You know, this one particular phrase from Gou in episode 133 bothered me when I first watched the ep and it still bothers me a lot, even though I think I know why it's there now:
Tumblr media
Hi hello I'm back with a textwall about Gou lmao. So yeah, what bothered me about this line in particular was that it came pretty much out of nowhere. Even worse, his character arc throughout the whole show had been him learning to let others in and letting them help him instead of going on ego trips all the time. So for 100+ episodes we have this slow and imo great build up to Gou learning exactly that. To communicate with his Pokémon and people, to work together with them instead of denying help because he had always been on his own when younger. Then suddenly this sentence is meant to be a new and important realisation of his and leads to a sudden 180 arc in the last few episodes of him lamenting being too reliant on Satoshi and others in general. And that's why he has to travel on his own now. You know, if there had been clear build up to that, I wouldn't have minded that conclusion at all. People first being reluctant to trust anyone and then clinging too much to someone to a point where they're scared of doing anything if they're not around is a very real thing and a nice idea for a character arc. But the issue here is that the "too dependent" sentiment suddenly happened in the last four episode of the series, with no signs whatsoever beforehand that he was over relying on his Pokémon or Satoshi. Quite the opposite, he's always been perfectly fine with doing things on his own. It's noticeable that he was still worried about having to work with others without Satoshi around, but the entire Project Mew arc took care of that. As for the Pokémon, he's often taken the role of the person the Pokémon rely on too, an obvious example being Grookey. The very episode he says this and its follow up even focus on Grookey taking the role of the protector instead of the protected for once. Also whenever Gou does rely on his Pokémon, it's in situations where he obviously would have to, unless he thinks he's a prick for having his physically stronger Cinderace battle a Pokémon instead of him himself throwing fists with idk, Mewtwo lol.
So even though him saying he's spooked of travelling alone and being too scared to tell Satoshi directly while Satoshi comforts him is a cute scene in the end, it is also a decision on Gou's end that didn't have any build up. Him saying in the episode prior that he chose this because he'd rely on Satoshi too much didn't have any build up.
Anipoke is no stranger to throwing in jarring decisions at the end to justify the existence of the next series, Game Shark user Tobias from DPP being probably the most obvious and famous example of that. But, correct me if I'm mistaken, it's never harmed an individual character's writing that much. Heck, it's never harmed a relationship between two characters as much. Satoshi and Gou had been built up as these best friends 5ever who slowly become closer and closer throughout the series. Gou says in the second to last episode that he thinks Satoshi would totally just tell him to go for it, to do the solo journey if he feels like it. It's exactly what he said too, so Gou certainly understands his buddy by now. However, this scene would have been the perfect opportunity to have Satoshi be called out on his niceness there, because sure he's a nice and supportive dude. But we know that he enjoys hanging out with Gou. We know that he misses him when he's not around. Heck, we see in the last episode, when they seperate, that he's not exactly happy to part ways with his friend. He completely puts Gou's sudden desire to travel by himself over his own desire to keep being around his friend. As if there's some outside force that forces them to separate against their will. As if they didn't have a choice but to go separate ways because what they wanted to do was impossible with the other around. But in the epilogue (and MPM) they literally do the same things they did together the 100+ episodes prior, so there clearly was no narrative reason for this.
So with all that said. Sorry for the longass text lol, I was thinking about just throwing this into my Satogou essay, but I don't think it really fits there so here we go. SO WITH ALL THAT SAID I think MPM's existence, the way the series goes, the knowledge of what the last episode seems to be about, the knowledge of the change of executive producer between JN and MPM and Yuyama's Animedia interview about MPM, I think the reason for the sudden change in character makes sense. Hear out my super kewl theory
The Yuyama interview makes it sound quite clear that MPM wasn't exactly planned ahead, unlike decisions like Satoshi winning the PWC and making way for a new series this year. It feels oddly disconnected from the series, because even though Satoshi uses old Pokémon and briefly travels with Misty and Brock again, the places they visit are deliberately nameless. And the episodes themselves, while conceptually just like any other "helping Pokémon of the day" episode prior, have little connection to stuff that happened in the actual show outside of small references like Rattata or Beedrill. While we still have to see the conclusion to the Latias plot, it feels more like a spontaneous idea to connect these 10 episodes until the last one than anything.
Oh also a relevant tidbit of information is that Yuyama equated the title of Pokémon Master to a rainbow, e.g. something you're fascinated by and try to reach without ever being actually able to. Might explain JN's heavy usage of rainbows, at least to some extend.
In conclusion, I think what has happened is that JN was written with it being Satoshi's last series in mind. And Gou has been written as the ideal counterpart to him, basically. He's essentially the Lugia to Satoshi's Ho-oh if you wanna, hence both of these mons appearing in the last JN ep. So from his conception, Gou was never meant to go separate ways with Satoshi. But then they realised they have three whole months to fill until the new series is able to premiere. And the idea of MPM was basically born, Misty and Brock as a no brainer nostalgia bait (as per Yuyama's words, the decision to have them be the companions for MPM was so certain he doesn't even remember how they got to the conclusion), episodes that fill the void until the new show etc. Of course to recreate the og trio, they'd have to get rid of anyone but Satoshi from the previous show. How do you get rid of a character that has been established as basically having no reason to leave the other main character and who's relationship with said character had been highlighted so much in both the show and promotional material? You just make up a reason lmao.
And yeah, I mean, as I said, Anipoke is no stranger to sudden decisions like that. Shudo, the chief director from OS to Johto said how he wanted to give the show a proper ending and wasn't able to because the show had to go on. The DPP series was clearly written to build up to Satoshi winning the league (and him potentially getting replaced entirely, since Gen 5 was initially meant to be a fresh new start to the franchise). XY also very clearly was building him up to win the league. Each time it was stuff that happened in the last few episodes that certainly didn't look like they were anywhere near planned ahead. And I am almost 100% certain the same happened in JN with Gou and the sudden change of heart in these last few episodes.
Had to write all this because not only did the decision itself bother me of course (don't get me wrong, I am genuinely looking forward to the new series and MPM had its neat moments so far, but the way JN, Satoshi's series and Gou ended was a wholeass mess imo) but other I've kinda been frustrated about how many people went "hahah told yall so Gou would leave XD GOne" (that pun IS funny tho). Like, no you guys, a broken clock is also right twice a day yada yada. I highly doubt yall saw MPM coming. I high doubt yall expected Satoshi's story to end. I highly doubt you could have been able to tell me what reasoning they'd come up with to have Gou and Satoshi separate. You guys' reasoning had always just been "because they always did it (except for the times they didn't)". Because the thing is, I had written them all up at some point, but all the arguments for Gou staying were based on what the series itself presented and relied 1) on Satoshi staying and 2) the producers of the show not changing their mind last moment to justify the existence of the next series. I'm gonna go ahead and assume the executive producer of JN (Tomiyasu) saw more importance in Gou and Satoshi's relationship and Gou's importance as a character, given that he's probably partially responsible for it being a thing in the first place, than the executive producer of MPM (Yuyama), who has worked on the series as it started and notably would rather stick to the traditions of the show instead of trying out new things. That's why JN's ending feels so out of nowhere and that's probably also why MPM feels so disconnected from the rest of the series, almost more like a spin-off. While Tomiyasu is much more keen on bringing new ideas and concepts into the series. You can see that, as once he started having a bigger influence on the series with Sun and Moon, there's notable changes in setting, writing of characters etc.
Now this was a really long rant fr lol oops. Uhhh... Gou best boi, I am glad the Satogou fandom is still alive and kicking, stay gold, Satogou Day is in two days and I completely forgot about it tho oops

Some of Goh's Pokémon that Serena Could Own
Going in regional order...
Tumblr media
Pinsir: Like in canon, she's a gentle soul. If she had a Nature, it'd be Timid. She falls for Ash's Heracross, but Heracross is more interested in plant sap.
Tumblr media
Butterfree: He would become her main Gigantamax Pokémon if I let her have one instead of Vivillon.
Tumblr media
Raichu: Yes, this is cliché, but I like the idea of a Raichu starring alongside Ash's Pikachu.
Tumblr media
Misdreavus: Random fact of the post: before Mystical Fire became a TM in generation eight, Delphox and Mismagius were the only two Pokémon that could learn the move.
Tumblr media
Absol: Serena owns one in the games. Her manga counterpart also owns one.
Tumblr media
Altaria: Serena owns one in the games, and they were one of the Pokémon I can picture her using back then. These days, they don't Mega Evolve due to Lisia's Altaria.
Tumblr media
Lilligant: Lilligant I consider a Pokémon Cilan would own, but I prefer Serena having the Unovan form rather than the Hisuian variant. However, I'd prefer her to have a Whimsicott.
Tumblr media
Frogadier: Mostly due to Pokémon Masters EX and the manga letting Serena have a Greninja of her own.
Tumblr media
Galarian Corsola: A call back to Serena missing a Johtonian Corsola in the anime.
Tumblr media
Falinks: This one's strange, but I like the idea of her having Pokémon that don't fit the feminine or cute mold. I can see her bonding with them and helping keep them in line before catching them.
Tumblr media
Alcremie: This is a Pokémon I wanted Serena to have before I chose Butterfree as her Gigantamax Pokémon. One of her passions is baking, so I thought she could help her out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cinderace, Inteleon, and Grookey: I once talked with a friend on Discord, and they pointed out that all three of the Galar Starters fit Serena in some way. Were it not for me choosing Swampert and possibly Grovyle to complete the Fire, Water, Grass trio, I'd go for it.

OC Pokemon teams tag: AOM
I'm taking an open tag from @kk7-rbs for this one! I chose these for the main AOM players based on vibes and also story potential.
Also an open tag!
Sid
Tumblr media
He doesn't really favor any type, and that shows in his team. He evolved the Sirfetch'd from a Farfetch'd that fought him for an onion, the Goodra from a Goomy he found in the garden (his parents did NOT want him to take it inside), and the Alcremie from a Milcery he caught with the smell of his baking (it's probably a different variant than the one shown but he let it pick out its candy). The Mimikyu showed up when he was cleaning out the attic, and he feels like they have a lot in common actually. Donovan gave him a Galarian Yamask and fully believed it could never be evolved, but Sid figured out how to evolve it anyway. Emma gave him the Froslass when she got a shiny Froslass, and he had to retrain it to be less slappy and bitey.
Donovan
Tumblr media
He loves ground and rock types more than anything but those alone are kind of a weak team, so he's diversified. He's a big fan of Pokemon that are Shaped, hence the Shelgon and Gastrodon. Unfortunately he has never met someone who was fooled by the Sudowoodo. The Mudsdale is his hard hitter, the Trevenant is his favorite, and the Sableye he picked up from a cave because it reminded him of Sid (then a small child). Through no fault of its own it got most of Donovan's care and affection (RIP Sid) and is kind of a spoiled brat.
Emma
Tumblr media
Her team organizing principle is cuntiness. She picked Sobble as a starter years ago so she could end up with Inteleon. Pheromosa, Tsareena, and Froslass were all pretty easy choices too. She thinks the Machamp is cute and it has a great attitude (smash all opponents). It actually has not given her the most injuries - the Rapidash has, between its pointy horn and its tendency to get into her head with its psychic abilities. She doesn't super discourage this kind of behavior because any Pokemon that can knock her down can doubly do it to her challengers.
Avis
Tumblr media
She favors ghost types (she used to have a Trevenant in her main team but she switched it out when she found out Donovan had one). She loves Rillaboom the most, though, because she's had it the longest - she raised it from a Grookey. Her default strategy is to use its size (it's 6' 11") to intimidate most challengers (including Sorian), and then switch to Dhelmise when it gets a little low on health. Anyone who knows their types will assume she has a grass-based team, at which point she can pull out Kommo-o or Grappleoct to surprise them. Gengar and Dragapult also unnerve people, which is fine by her. She hates it when people point it out but she's very kind to her Pokemon and is far more worried about how good of a trainer she is to them than how powerful they are as fighters (pretty powerful).
Sorian
Tumblr media
He loves fairy and psychic types and they love him. Obviously the Ninjask is an exception, but he keeps it in his team just in case and because Horatio gave it to him (he still doesn't understand why Horatio thinks it's like him, but okay. It's cute). He often lets the Comfey stay out of its Pokeball and wears it as a flower crown, which Avis finds infuriating (how dare he have a cute Pokemon like that. fucking asshole). People think Avis will be irrationally pissed off by the Hatterene, since it looks kind of like a human woman, but it just looks like that - why would she be mad? Sorian's favorite Pokemon is actually the Togekiss, which likes to snuggle with him when he's alone but retreats as soon as Avis shows up. His most powerful Pokemon in battle are definitely the Claydol and Musharna.
Horatio
Tumblr media
Horatio didn't start out trying to bridge as many types as possible, nor to have only dual-type Pokemon, but once he realized it was happening anyway he leaned into it. He started with the Galvantula, which used to ride in his pocket when it was a Joltik, and ended up with Vileplume when his Oddish would not stop accompanying him out of his florist shop. Edith gave him the Swinub he evolved into Piloswine, and Sorian gave him the Deino he evolved into Hydregion because it looked like him (it did). The Aegislash came from a Honedge that tried and failed to blend in with his gardening tools, and the Gallade - which he suspects used to belong to someone else - he found wandering in the woods when he was studying river plants. It has very little self control around people who are rude to him, and it sometimes gets switched out of his team temporarily when it's being moody.

Wild Fang’s Pokémon Teams + Kakeru
Kyoya:
Tumblr media
Litten naturally has the personality of Kyoya. Seriously, it’s just Kyoya as a Pokémon.
The kid’s whole personality is lion. I had to give him the lion-like Pokémon.
I mainly just wanted a dark type and I felt Umbreon fit with Kyoya’s season three design really well.
... Gengar looks like Kyoya during battles.
Persian is yet another lion Pokémon to add to his collection.
Nile:
Tumblr media
Fennekins are known for being neat and orderly apparently and that just fits Nile perfectly.
Helio = sun and it’s a desert Pokémon. Also it could sit on his shoulder and that would just be cute.
... Do I really have to explain Cofagrigus?
Sandslash was just a vibe. Idk why, just a vibe.
Fire eeveelution to balance out Kyoya’s dark type one (headcanon that they got them together).
Mawile looks very done with everyone just like Nile’s attitude towards Kyoya during their battle with Gingka.
Demure:
Tumblr media
Grookey could sit on his shoulder and it just fit really well.
The anxiety Pokémon for the anxiety blader. Perfect.
Axew was an impulse add and yet I love it so much here.
Emolga was just a vibe and the yellow stripes in it’s ears kinda reminded me of Demure’e earrings so yeah.
Grass eeveelution for the kid who just said that they were from “the grasslands” (headcanon it was caught with Nile and Kyoya’s).
Girafarig was mainly due to me wanting some form of psychic type here and I thought it fit best with the team.
Benkei:
Tumblr media
I could just see Pignite helping him cook. That’s it. That’s my whole reasoning.
Tauros = The Bull aka Dark Bull.
Snorlax can also crush people with hugs like Benkei does. Idk, it’s cute.
Hawlucha is just based off Benkei during the World Championships.
Another fighting type that was added based on vibes.
Benkei would have a dog Pokémon that balances out all of Kyoya’s cat Pokémon, and this one’s a food pun for the chef man.
Kakeru:
Tumblr media
Cyndaquil is just adorable and is a fire type that evolves to use a wheel attack like Kakeru does.
Baby lion because he idolizes his brother.
Klang because the boy loves to invent apparently (makes his own bey if I remember correctly).
Gible was just a vibe. That’s the whole reason.
Eevee that will probably be a Sylveon or Jolteon one day, just because Kakeru is like the sweetest kid.
What better Pokémon to encapsulate the differences between him and Kyoya than the fact that Kakeru is literally just like Plusle.
--------------------
Edit: Completely forgot a bird Pokémon for Nile so feel free sub in Talonflame wherever you want on the team (thank you to the commenter that reminded me)!

“Grookey! Grookey, where did you go?”
“Grookeeeyyy!”
There's a happy chirp from one of the trees and suddenly Ash finds himself with a faceful of monkey. The force of the jump isn't enough to set him off balance this time and he pries the happily babbling Pokémon off of his head.
“Goh, I found it!” he yells in the direction of the other boy, who comes running at the sound of his voice. “No sign of my cap though,” he says as Goh reaches the two, Pikachu at his heels.
“Oh, that's not good,” Goh frowns and accepts the bundle of giggling monkey into his own arms. “Why did you run off with it like that?” he admonishes Grookey but it only hits him with its stick and blabbers something unintelligible. “Wow, thanks,” he mutters but he knows he can't stay mad at the baby Pokémon for too long.
-
They keep searching until after dinnertime and both boys sit down on a fallen tree along one of the numerous paths in the forest, beat. They feel like they've combed half the forest already - Grookey hadn't been missing for that long, how did it manage to lose the Arceus damned hat so completely?
“I don't think we're going to find it,” Goh moans and rubs his eyes. Grookey jumps off of him to check out an abandoned campfire across from them, carefree as always.
“Don't lose hope! I'm sure it's around here,” Ash says, stretches his arms above his head and yawns. “We still haven't checked out that part,” he then points at the path leading to Viridian City. “Maybe Grookey just wanted us to have a little detour.”
“No way,” Goh snorts. Ash's words do reassure him however and he leans back to look up to the sky. A few clouds are drifting overhead, pushed by the gentle breeze... He closes his eyes and sighs. The day has been pleasantly warm and walking through the forest has been nice, all things considered.
“I'm so hungry though,” Ash says abruptly and his stomach growls as if to lend weight to his words. Goh can't help but laugh. He digs through his pockets and hands Ash two breakfast bars.
“That's all I have on me but it should stave off your inevitable death by starvation. You're very welcome.”
Ash takes the bars but hesitates, poking Goh into his ribs with one of them.
“What about you though? You can't go without eating, either!”
“Don't worry, I'm not that hungry-”
“Yeah, sure,” Ash grins and hits Goh on the head with the bar. “Take it.”
Goh grumbles but snatches the bar from his friend's fingers, if only to not get hit again. Grookey takes care of that just fine by itself, thank you very much.
“Jeez, okay. But you better not whine about your empty stomach before we get to the Pokémon centre, alright?”
“You have my word!” Ash manages to say around a mouthful of oats and whatever else the breakfast bars are made of. Goh chuckles and unwraps his own bar.
-
They eat in easy silence and the food is gone fairly quickly. Despite the small size of the portion, Goh feels strangely content as he pops the last piece into his mouth. He glances at his research partner who's already finished his own snack and is playing with Pikachu on his lap. It's a cute sight and instinctively Goh looks around for Grookey, spotting it asleep on a patch of moss next to the campfire. Oh well, at least it won't get in trouble like that.
Goh looks back at Ash and feels a familiar warmth settle between his ribs. Ash can be silly but he's also determined, and strong, and funny. Ash is also kind. Ash is forgiving. He didn't get upset when Grookey snatched his hat and absconded with it and even after searching for it for hours, he's still in high spirits. Goh knows very well what a handful his little green friend is, having lost his patience with it more times than he likes to admit. Ash never loses his patience with any of his Pokémon and he never does that with Goh's Pokémon, either. He doesn't value anything over the trust he's built with his friends, both Pokémon and people. It's inspiring.
Given the opportunity, Goh doesn't hesitate to blabber on and on about his fateful encounter on the day he met Ash. It's about Lugia, of course, but as time goes on he can't shake the feeling of it being more than just about the legendary Pokémon - it feels like he didn't have just one fateful encounter that day, but two.
He's never seen Lugia again after that day. Ash, however... Ash has stuck at his side ever since. And isn't that a wonder.
“Hey, Goh?”
Ash's voice interrupts his thoughts and Goh blinks just to find the trainer's eyes fixed on him. Oh no, had he been staring?
“Y-yeah?”
“Thanks for searching for my cap with me,” Ash says, surprisingly level-headed. “I know you'd much rather look for new Pokémon than my silly old hat, so I really appreciate it.”
The sincerity of the words takes Goh by surprise and he's sure his cheeks have already flared red. There's no hiding it but he turns away from Ash anyway.
“I, uh- Yeah, of course! It's important to you!”
Ash merely grins at him and stands up, Pikachu scurrying up onto his shoulder. He starts towards the other path, expecting Goh to follow. He doesn't.
”Could we... stay, a while?” Goh asks instead. Ash turns to look at him, perplexed, but sits back down on the log.
“Yeah sure, but we still have to find out where Grookey dropped my cap...”
“We'll find it,” Goh replies easily, turning to look at the other trainer. He's smiling and there's a sparkle in his blue, blue eyes. Ash only stares at him and Pikachu on his shoulder sighs and shakes its head. Seeing this, Goh laughs and shakes his head as well, effectively mimicking the Pokémon. He looks at the path ahead of them and chuckles.
He wants to stay here in this moment for just a little while longer. The future is in the palm of his hand - their hands - and it's up to them to mould it as they please. Goh has always known that he wants Mew to be a part of the shape his future ends up taking but it's not the only thing he's sure of.
He wants Ash to be a part of it, too.

Starter natural history lesson: Two
References to Grookey, Thwackey and Rillaboom as starter pokemon date back 2,000 years!
Tumblr media
When the paldean empire was formed, there were people who rebelled against such tyranny. These people were everyday people, farmers, butchers, and doctors who simply didn't think absolute power shouldn't be given to one person.
In return, the emperor exiled these people to galar, leaving them to die at the hands of the "ruthless, bloodthirsty and downright off-putting" natives. Terrified, homeless, and lacking resources: it's safe to say these people needed something to cheer them up, and it would help if they knew how to build structures.
Here's where our monkey comes in. Pet grookies were commonplace in paldea, so a few got on board the ships and travelled with the exiled. They played their songs, mingling with the sea shanties and work songs.
Once the exiled got on land, the grookies helped the distraught with their cute songs, while the rillabooms used their control over nature to rip lumber straight off the ground. In their place, fungi sprouted as a food source for the workers. It was cold and bitter and dark, but they made do.
Slowly, this small band of workers grew to a large town, one that deeply tuned to not only their own emotions but also their pokemons' emotions. They learned to be calm around hatenna's, hateful around impidimps, and tired around morllul. So did their partner pokemon, as rillabooms cared less about their drums and more on keeping as quiet as possible. Some say if you go into Glimwood Tangle and stay really quiet, a rillaboom might silently wander up and sit beside you.
But they still love their music, so a good sea shanty wouldn't be out of the question.
