Avatar Rant: Two Avatar takes that bother me
(Pssst! This was originally posted on reddit, but I liked it so much I decided to post it onto my this account! Here's a link to the original if you'd rather read it there!)
So, I saw a semi-viral tweet a while back that bothered me because it not only felt like a complete misunderstanding of the point of Avatar as a film franchise, but also just a very childish view of how societies and different communities function. I can't find it though (I didn't interact with it and it has since been buried) so I apologize for not being able to give the best context.
It was your typical RDA sympathizing humanity first take (makes sense, the account that tweeted it was a walking red flag) that claimed that the na'vi were stupid for not accepting human advancement and technology, that humanity should always put its preservation first, and that the RDA were simply prioritizing the well being of their people whilst the na'vi wanted them gone. I want to start by addressing the latter take(s).
The first and second movies make it very clear that the RDA are NOT prioritizing the survival of Earth or humanity. They are a money hungry organization that want to monetize pandoran resources to their dying people in hopes to squeeze out whatever little money they have left. The people of Earth are said to be protesting them for that very reason, every solution to their planet's problems that they have discovered is insanely expensive and inaccessible to anyone below the upper class one percent. The RDA don't care about humanity, they care about profit, which is the exact reason why their actions are so callous in the films.
There are certainly humans that want to preserve humanity, but I truly cannot wrap my head around how you can watch either film and come to the conclusion that it is the RDA that wants the best for humanity. Avatar is not a "human bad" movie, it is a "corporate greed bad" movie, which is reflective of real life environmental issues. The individual is green, the individual recycles and doesn't litter, the individual cleans their local rivers and sea shores. However, the powerplants continue to polute our air, the corporations continue to flood our oceans with plastic, the rich continue to cut corners and burn the air with private jets.
I truly believe the reading of Avatar as an anti-humanity movie is what has lead to people thinking the RDA are the "good guys". It is because they actually believe the RDA are supposed to represent humanity and their will to keep surviving (and that James Cameron is portraying them as wrong for that), when it is clear they are a representation of the corporate greed that leads to environmental damage and the destruction of humanity.
As for the belief that the na'vi are hostile and somehow wrong for not caring to "advance" in the way humanity did, that is just flat out wrong. When it came to the respectful, peaceful humans such as Grace and her team, the na'vi were incredibly welcoming. I mean, Grace built an entire school for them and taught them human language and other human academics, so clearly they aren't against learning from humans. Again, Avatar is clear about the fact that humans as a collective aren't bad, corporate greed is.
However, why should the na'vi "advance" when there is no need to? Innovation is built on the back of necessity, and in a world where there is no need for certain technological advancements, why should the na'vi chase it? Why do they need phones and tablets and video games and McDonalds? They are living just fine without it. This idea that every society needs to be "modernized", even when they function just fine without said modernization has always driven me up a wall.
This entitlement from the western world is what leads colonial brained weirdos to try and go to indigenous islands and force religion or their world view upon them, because they believe that if a society doesn't function like the "modern" world, it is wrong. The na'vi don't need currency, or modern tech, or modern trends or fast food. They aren't perfect, but they also aren't in a desperate situation that would call for innovation or some sort of technological evolution. They are fine, they don't need nor even want it, and it is strange to believe humanity is in their right to force it upon them.
I'll stop this here because it's getting too long, I would love to hear your thoughts. Last time I made a post in this vein I got some really interesting responses, I couldn't reply to all but I'll try and reblog if that means anything!

Im genuinely curious and offer this post as a discussion: why do so many avatar fans like the recoms?
If you have a fancy for them yourself, I'm genuinely curious as to why and what abt them makes them particuarly interesting in and outside of the Avatar universe? Aesthetic? Character? Tropes? Concept? Personal reasons? Etc
I want to make this clear this is in good faith. I dont think its inherently bad to like the recoms and have reblogs of some fanart of them on my blog. I'm just rlly curious abt the specific reasons why ppl gravitate toward them a lot in the fandom, which i dont relate to.

Company Property
I've bee listening to this again thinking how perfectly it describes RDA and how it most likely works. And how it treats the people who we saw dying en masse working for it. Even of they only hire the worst I doubt they signed up to be slaughtered to finance RDA expansion.
The song is about a different hypercapitalist entiry abusing people but I suppose one evil space conglomerate is just like another. After all they are all in the race to the bottom line with the likes of the East India Company.
youtube
This is exactly how the RDA is getting people to come to Pandora and die defending corporate assets and revenue streams
Welcome to space. What were you expecting? It’s a dangerous place. Thank you for investing.
Monsters that can eat you in one bite and locals with arrows as long as you. I hope you enjoy being cannon fodder.
Just ten short years to a new frontier Snooze as you cruise and you’ll wake up here! You’ve been trapped in that ship for an awful long time So perhaps you have simply forgot what you signed
Wake up from cryo to be reminded that this isn't a job you can quit. Just think of the numbers of RDA soldier we saw dying in the A2 movie. Wonder if they knew what was waiting for them when they sign up.
Honestly? Did you not read the colony policy? That defines you as company property? That waivers your say in autonomy? The conglomerate’s got you in lock and key
You belong to the company now. I suppose this is especially true for Recoms. They never owned themselves. They wouldn't be able to afford to.
We put the dollar back into idolatry If you’re upset you can rent an apology We are a family forged in bureaucracy No I in ‘team’ but there’s con in ‘economy’
Con in economy. Dollar in idolatry.
Were you expecting adventure? Were you hoping for fun? My friend you’re indentured And pleasure’s exempt from your tenure
...
If you’d rather drop dead that’s fine But you know that dropping down dead bears a fine So you do your job, I’ll do mine I gotta meet a six foot deep bottom line
And not even death frees you from your debt. RDA even offers you the opportunity to work for it after death. If you're useful.
...
The secrets of the universe and all the worlds to be explored But our dreams are back on earth and now the work is our reward
Maybe you bought into the ideals of exploring other words and saving Earth?
And you’ll be grateful for seats at the table Though it dips at one end and the bench is unstable You may waste your days but at least you were able To pay off your grave since we leased you your cradle
But the company will never play fair. Please die at the end of your depreciation period. Thank you.
Be faithful and pray we’ll repay what you invest Behave as you slave for humanity’s interest On account that you’re all on account   and we’re quickly amounting humanity’s interest
So they can get fair return on their investment. It's for humanity's interest (paid out to shareholders only)

tsu'tey x f!reader
im new at writing please be patient, also english is not my first language
_________________________
[You are a human scientist working for RDA (Resources Development Administration). You have an Avatar and frequently use it when you go out to study Pandora's floral nature and natives. You are fluent in the Na'vi language for obvious reasons. You are out exploring when you suddenly run into Tsu'tey.]
Tsu'tey stands from his kneel, having just hunted his dinner. You see the moment his eyes catch your lanky figure. His ears fold back and he bares his teeth threateningly.
"Demon!"
she was taken aback by the sudden action, she putted her hands up in front of her trying to show she wasn't harmful
Tsu'tey's ears do not budge and he steps towards her aggressively. He is carrying a large, bloody carcass slung over his shoulder. His teeth snap at the air as he growls.
"What are you doing here, demon?" He says, eyeing you."im just looking at the plants" you said with the most calm tone you could muster Tsu'tey raises a skeptical brow and glances around.
"Here? In this area? Why?"
He snarls and shifts the heavy carcass off his shoulder and on to the ground, drawing up his own height.Tsu'tey glares up at you, standing a full four inches taller than you. You note his powerful build, toned from a life of hunting in the great wilds. With a deep voice that is still surprisingly soft spoken, he asks, "Why did you come so close?" he said "i kinda got lost" she said feeling a little ashamed about it.
Tsu'tey's face softens a little and he gestures to the massive bulk sitting behind him. "Lost or hungry?" He asks, his eyes dropping to the large animal you can now see is a massive deer beast."both" she said lowering her head when she heard her own stomach growling. Tsu'tey grumbles to himself and bends over to cut large chunks out of the wild animal. He offers it to you, looking you up and down as he places the hunks of meat in your hands.
"Eat. We'll discuss this later."
He moves to sit back down and begins tearing chunks of meat off the carcass.Tsu'Tey sits and begins to eat large mouthfuls of meat. He rips the meat out with his teeth, occasionally looking up to find your stare. He snarls.
"What are you waiting for?"
After a few seconds, he realizes you are waiting for him to let you know you can eat. He grumbles.
"Go on."
"thank you" you whisper
Tsu'tey continues to eat. Once he finishes, he leans back and watches you eat. His head tilts slightly when he catches you gazing at him.
"You're welcome. Now, answer my question. Why are you here, so deep in Omatikaya territory?"
"i told you i got lost" she said cleaning her hands
Tsu'tey stands up and dusts off his clothes.
"Yes, but you have to realize that in Omatikaya territory, this close to the Tree of Souls, if you are lost, it's because you're here without permission."
This seems to worry Tsu'tey. He looks down at you, his brows furrowed.
"Did you come to spy on us?"
"no never! i don't want to do that im just curious you know"Tsu'tey's eyes narrow. He walks toward you and grabs you by the shoulders. With his immense strength, he lifts you to eye level. He stares into your eyes and asks again, more sternly, "Why were you here?"
"I just saw like a thing floating it was bright so i followed" she said referring to the tree of souls she just looked at him
Tsu'tey's face shows understanding. His ears fold forward slightly and he nods. He lets go of you and turns away. For a second, he is silent. You see a tinge of sadness in his face when he says, "I see. Well, I suppose it is natural to be curious."
He puts his hands on his hips.
"Let's go." He beckons for you to follow him and he begins walking away.
"wait" she said standing up as fast as she could
Tsu'tey stops walking and turns to face you, his brow furrowed, looking impatiently.
"Yes?" He asks, his voice slightly annoyed.
"you are going to fast" she said as she reached him, out of breath
Tsu'tey looks down at you in silent bewilderment. He shakes his head and looks away before asking.
"How are you out of breath?"
His tone is stern. He looks confused. He doesn't seem to understand the concept of lack of stamina in another being.
"im just not on the athletic side you know" she said looking at him while walking
Tsu'tey slows to a stop. His brow is furrowed. He leans down slightly so he can look you in the eyes, his face still showing some confusion.
"How are you...not athletic? Are your legs injured? What is it?"
"im just not keen on doing exercise, I do enough exercise so I can go out" she said stopping with him and answering his questions
Tsu'tey is taken aback and furrows his brow even more, a little amused.
"I am not sure I follow... You do not do physical activity on the regular?"
He looks around, as if he wants to understand.
"How do you hunt? Your body does not get tired after a run?" he asks.
"i do get tired after running sometime and also I don't hunt" she said looking at him like he just asked the most obvious question ever
Tsu'tey is confused. He tilts his head slightly. He cannot believe what he just heard.
"You do not hunt?" he asks, a hint of surprise in his voice. Tsu'tey looks amused.
"What do you do then?"
"well research and look at the animals from a far, you know things that don't involve running"
Tsu'tey is speechless. He has completely run out of questions. His face shows bewilderment as he looks at you.
"How do you survive?" he asks, almost speechless.
"Well they usually just give me the food and I just eat it" she answered with an obvious tone looking at him "you hunt all your food? and don't you save some so you can eat later and not hunt again?"
Tsu'tey seems to mull over your explanation. After a few seconds of processing, he nods. "That makes sense..."
He scratches his chin thinking. You can see the gears turning in his mind as he asks you another question.
"Who is they?"
"my coworkers" she simply answers
Tsu'tey looks even more confused.
"These coworkers ,do they feed you all of your meals?"
"yes, sometimes but other times I have to make my own food" she says remembering that few times "it depends"
he is really intrigued by this sky demon he just met, she isn't trying to fight with him. Maybe she isn't as bas as he thought.
But he couldn't get feelings or get attached to her.

Far Horizons - Ch. 1 (Tsu'teyXfem!oc Avatar fic) regular posts on wattpad
Introduction to my fic I've been regularly updating on wattpad. Just wanna get a feel hereee; my wattpad user is indirys :)
Tumblr media
WARNING: mentions of violent things that might be uncomfortable for some readers.
THE cities on earth were nothing near what she'd been told they'd once been, somewhere around seventy years or so in the past when they didn't meld into one another to form mega urban areas that stretched a crossed states. She'd been told that once, cities had only ranged within a certain mileage in any direction, with some definite end that eventually turned in what they called suburbs and country.
Things that remained as words alone now. Those no longer existed on earth. If any area was not occupied by living spaces or corporate facilities or any other necessary establishment, they were used for facilitating the production of food. If it could be called that. Most of the "food" grown in these areas was so genetically modified and typically lab grown that it brought a different slew of problems to the worlds population in the form of health risks and shortened life spans.
Such congested living brought worse dangers. Being a woman was far from safe, not if you couldn't afford proper protection. The black market alone brought the risk of being kidnapped to have ones organs taken, while the human-trafficking 'industry' had grown bold enough that the UN no longer fought against it. Corporations ran earth now and laws were often far too grey to entirely justify.
Ruth would have rather found herself dead than remain on earth for the entirety of her life. Somehow, the 'most hostile environment known to man' was more preferred than the shell that humanity calls home still.
The last tether she had to her home was long gone by now with the death of her grandfather, who'd passed shortly before she was due to ship off for her six year long trip a crossed the stars.
The only significant figure in her life, Ruth had nothing else to fight for, nothing else to put all of her focus and efforts to stay afloat toward. She still grieved for him every day, but the transition to life on Pandora had been almost effortless because of his absence.
Ruth could remember the suffocating dreadfulness of living in the cities of earth. Cramped, heavily trafficked, dirty beyond belief and not a hint of fresh air or true green in sight. Those factors alone had been enough to convince her getting through college was worth it, that the years she spent busting her ass even in high school would send her somewhere better. It had been the truth.
After graduating at the age of seventeen and immediately pursuing her dream of a doctorate in biology and picking up complex xenobotany, somehow, someway, Ruth Carson scored a gig with the Avatar program, one that ninty-nine percent of trainee intakes failed. The program funded by the Resource Development Administration.
Nightmares of her life on earth had chosen to appear in her sleep the night prior.
Whenever the memories of the life she left behind came up, she'd often wake to a feeling of dread, thinking she'd somehow never left earth for Pandora.
She sat up from her pillow with a groan, the rough, not-so-much to her liking bedsheets gathering on her lap. She rubbed away the sleep from her eyes and gazed with squinted vision around the small room she'd called home for a little over three years.
As barren and dull as the living quarters she'd been given had been when she first arrived, she'd managed make it hers. A few gifts from the Na'vi made it more colorful, including a tapestry, a decorative piece of jewelry far too large for her human body to wear and a few drawings the children from Grace's school house had given her, drawn in crude crayon. Little gifts she cherished more than any of her other personal belongings.
Pulling away the sheets, Ruth forced herself from the bed and padded along the cold floor over to where her sink stood against the wall, a small mirror reflecting her face as she flicked the light on.
Green eyes, ash blonde hair. As much as she was appreciative of her jovial looks at the age of thirty-three and often stressed, Ruth lamented her desire to be in her avatar body. For good.
Her other body was far stronger, more lithe and attuned to the moon she now called home. Her contract with the RDA called for a five and half year trip both ways to get to and from Pandora, as well the minimum six year length of her work on its own.
She was still trying to find a way to never leave. The extend her stay on the moon indefinitely, if that were a thing. Corporate was strange about its rules, apparently.
After promptly washing her face, brushing her hair and securing it into a braid, Ruth donned her typical outfit of any workday: cargo pants, usually of the black or green variety, a t-shirt, and her lab coat. She found that the tactical boots the army grunts wore were far more comfortable than she'd ever expected, therefore she'd tactfully acquired some for herself.
Just as she was beginning to leave the room, she halted at the doorway as her eyes caught the photo she cherished yet lamented over. A picture with a handful of the Omaticaya children, grinning and embracing her as they'd taken a photo at the school Grace had started.
It was closed now. She didn't like thinking about it.
Continuing out into the hall of the dormitories, Ruth navigated the many halls that would eventually lead her to the bio-lab, where she worked everyday.
Along the way, she snatched a mug of creamed coffee and a muffin from the cafeteria before finally making her way into ambient glow of the tech and other light producing items in the lab.
They were supposed to launch some new avatars that day, she recalled after the debrief the day prior.
"Dr. Carson?" An unfamiliar voice said, causing her to turn mid-sip of her coffee, the lip of the cup still against her lips.
It was a tall lanky man, brown hair and weird-looking beard. At his side, a man in a wheel chair looked up at her. Military cut and all, she immediately knew this guy had to be prior service, if the USMC symbol on his t-shirt hadn't already given it away.
"Yes?" She asked, lowering the coffee cup. The one standing was likely one of the new arrivals, but the wheelchair bound one she unsure of.
"Norm Spellman, I'm one of the new lab intakes. I've read your studies on Pandoran fauna and other. . ." He paused as the man at his side gave him a look as if to cut the long introductions and gushing admiration. "Sorry. We're both avatar drivers. We were told to report to you," he stated, referring to him and the man in the wheelchair at his side.
"I don't recall hearing about a paraplegic in the manifest," Ruth muttered as she set her coffee and muffin on the nearest flat surface and crossed her arms. She looked between them both with raised brows.
"Sorry for the inconvenience that I'm not my brother," the man in the wheelchair said icily to her. Fair enough. "He couldn't make it."
A stroke of worry hit Ruth as she finally realized it had been Tom Sully that had been projected to arrive today. They'd been colleagues in school, but after he'd chosen to pursue becoming some deeper training that included a more intensive dive into xenolinguists, Tom stayed back on earth for a while longer before she went into cryo and made her trip through the stars. She had been vaguely informed at one point or another that he had a twin brother. Ruth hadn't seen him since.
"What happened to Tom?" She asked more gently this time, after internally regretting her prior rudeness.
"He was jumped. Didn't survive the scrap," Tom's twin replied bluntly, lip thin.
Hit with a wave of momentary sorrow, Ruth collects herself and nods with a frown. Her heartbeat reflected her reaction to her old friend's death, quick and dizzying. "Tom was a great guy. Top of our class. My condolences…?"
"Jake," he finished for her, finally giving her his name.
"Well," she sighed. "I'm Ruth, as you already know. Feel free to use it, but Carson works fine as well. Now, as for the avatars," she beckoned them to follow her deeper into the bio-lab. The change in subject would hopefully change the atmosphere that had settled over the three of them.
They made their way toward the massive embryonic tanks that held the large bodies of the avatars that were for Jake and Norm, which they would be taking out for their first drive likely by morning.
Stopping near the tank that held Tom's avatar, Ruth frowned as she gazed on its features.
He'd been a good friend to her in the years they were in school and the sight of Jake being the uncannily identical twin he was made it harder to believe he was actually gone.
She watched a moment as Jake looked at the floating body, entirely intrigued by what he saw. She couldn't blame him, it would be expected of anyone. The first time anyone saw what Pandora had to offer was amusing in itself.
"Looks like him," Jake half muttered, a look of grief clouding his eyes as he watched the body twitch in the synthetic amniotic fluid of the tank.
"Looks like you," Ruth corrected him. "This is your avatar now."
Jake turned to look up to her. "I take it you have one too?"
Ruth grinned, pleased as she thought on it. "Of course. I'll be meeting you two on the outside once you've run through all of your diagnostic tests. After that, we'll take sometime to get you familiarized with everything." She crossed her arms, her shoulder resting against the glass of the tank Jake's avatar floated in. "Now tell me, how does a marine end up in a multi-billion dollar program? Did you pursue a degree or something? Was there a particular reason beyond saving the money they'd spent on this avatar to bring you out here?"
Jake shook his head. "I was a dumb drunk before they approached me. I was told I can link with Tommy's avatar, I guess. Probably just didn't want to waste the money, like you said."
Ruth nodded as she began to realize what he meant. "Identical DNA, all that nonsense. It checks out." Jake nodded with a weak smile before looking back to his avatar.
Ruth sighed, saying, "Either way, Jake, you're the only one that can link with this avatar. It's up to you now not to let this five-billion dollar project go to waist," he gave her a look that suggested she'd put the weight of the world in his hands and she smiled. "Consider yourself very lucky, marine. But go get some rack while you can. I'm sure that flight in early this morning was rough. The change in atmospheric pressure can have some affects on you. You'll get to have your fun tomorrow."
"For sure, Doc," Jake nodded. "I'll see you in the morning. But I'll hopefully be blue."
"You'll need a link chamber for that, guy," she jabbed jokingly and smirked before retreating toward the direction she'd left her coffee and muffin, beginning to leave Jake where he sat in front of the giant tank. "I'm just interested in you meeting Grace."
"Who's Grace?" He asked after.
Ruth chuckled as she began to disappear further into the bio-lab. "Oh, you'll see."
•••
EYES fluttering open, Ruth sat up in the cot she'd put her avatar to sleep in the night prior.
Today, they'd be integrating Jake and Norm into the avatar bodies. She was curious to see how they'd react, particularly the marine. Someone who had no training whatsoever for anything he was about to participate in. Some part of her was amused to see how things panned out.
She grinned to herself as she pushed herself up, shoving her long braid to her back and stretching her long limbs before swinging her legs to the wooden floor. She snatched her boots as she got to her feet, making her way to where she would change into day clothes. With her tail flicking behind her, she strode down the rows of beds of the other avatars, sighing contently.
She was always far happier in this body than the other. It felt familiar. Felt right.
Upon exiting the sleep shack, to her surprise, she finds that Jake, still in his medical gown, is just a crossed the small lot with Grace once she steps out into the light of day. A rough start indeed, it seemed. His tail was flicking in excitement before he caught sight of her. She smirks, wandering over. His ears peek at her presence, a grin tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Someone seems excited," Ruth chuckled to Grace, who shared the same amused expression. "And still in a gown."
"He came running out from the medical bay within minutes of completing the link like a damn lunatic," Grace exclaimed to Ruth with a smirk, the beads of her braided strands of hair clinking against each other at her cheeks. "What a maniac."
Ruth recalled her first link with her avatar, the most exciting moment in her life. The exhilaration had been unlike anything she'd ever experienced. She couldn't blame Jake, yet he had decided to run out half naked.
"She was not excited to meet me once you left the lab," Jake said to Ruth, a shit-eating grin on his face.
"I'll admit I'm quite pissed to see Selfridge decided to send a grunt to my avatar program, but I suppose preventing the waste of viable resources works for now," Grace exclaimed with a roll of her eyes.
"Now you see what I meant about meeting Grace," Ruth taunted Jake. She looked him up and down, gesturing to him. "How does it feel? Your new body." She was sure it was liberating to be walking again.
"Amazing," Jake replied grinning, an enthusiasm about him she hadn't seen the day before. Already, there was evident difference in his demeanor. Like a fire had ignited again inside him after so long.
"Dr. Carson here is going to help get you get situated for today," Grace told Jake as she crossed her arms, gesturing with a nod toward to other woman at her side. "I'll help out Norm."
"We've just got to do a few things to get you attuned to your new body," Ruth told him. "I'll get him taken care of, Grace. Come on, Jake."
Leaving Grace to take Jake back toward the avatar dorms, Ruth brought them to the jungle hut she'd just woken up in. As they entered, she lead him toward the storage room that had all of the extra avatar clothing and items, specially made considering their size.
"So, how did you know Tommy?" Jake asked as she began rummaging through the folded clothing, finding male specific shirts and pants for him to keep, along with underwear, socks, and two pairs of boots. She grabbed a few other articles along with a backpack before turning back to him.
"We were in the avatar program together. Different classes and I was ahead of him but we still trained together. I graduated before him so I was due to leave earlier," she sighed as she put the large pile of clothing into his arms, yellow eyes turning toward the ground. "I shipped off well before he did. I expected him here yesterday, actually."
Jake frowned, ears pinned back as he nodded. The use of his physical features betraying how he felt. "Yeah, me too."
"Tom was a great guy. I'm truly sorry for your loss," Ruth said to him sincerely.
Jake shrugged. "After almost six years in cryo, the time has passed. So will the grief."
"Time passed is not grief processed," she told him gently, to which he simply gave a tight nod.
She understood he likely wasn't up for talking on his brother much. She couldn't blame him. When he grandpa had passed shortly before her ship date, she'd grown numb too. And dealt with the grief in due time.
"To think, a marine in an avatar body," Ruth breathed a laugh to lighten the mood. "Never thought I'd see that combination. A deadly one at that. Perhaps you'll make an effective guard while we're in the field gathering samples."
"A five-billion dollar body guard?" Jake smirked as Ruth returned the smile and made her way past him into the hall. He followed.
"What other purpose would you have?" She asked as she strode toward the door leading outside. "Get yourself out of that gown. We've got things to do, marine."
Making her way toward the wrap around porch of the hut, Ruth left Jake smiling where he was, smiling while gripping his pile of new avatar-sized clothes.
•••
SURPRISED with Jake's efficiency in mastering the functions of a body he'd spent less than a day in, Ruth took him through an assortment of obstacles to help him gain awareness of senses and balance he didn't have before. She always marveled at the small, minute differences between the hybrid avatars and the Na'vi, their stride and movement, the five fingers per hand and toes per foot. His muscle tone would grow more than the average Na'vi over time thanks to the intermingled human DNA, helping him appear less lanky and small.
Ruth had watched Jake scale a rock wall, take a few laps around the exercise track and run through some basics of the fauna and flora of Pandora before they would venture beyond the safety of the barbwire walls and automated defense systems in the coming days.
Perhaps she was getting too much of a kick out of getting to tell a military dog what to do considering the real work would start tomorrow. They'd fly out to the field sites to gather some more sample and run some tests, with Jake pulling his watch over them for safety. She did appreciate the piece of mind.
Dinner had been leisurely, the avatars gathering under the dining pavilion where dinner was served by some of kitchen staff, humans. Ruth remained amused as she watched Jake look down on those serving their food, likely still intrigued by the height difference between them and normal people.
Grace was sure to introduce both Jake and Norm to everyone during their first dinner before they would put the avatars in the safety of their cots. Afterwards, dinner would be served again, only this time to their human bodies.
Showing Jake and Norm to the cots that would now be designated to their avatars, Ruth crossed her arms and leaned to one hip. Her tail flicked behind her in slight impatience as she waited for them to get situated.
"Waking up will be the same as when you initialized the link. Just clear your mind. Falling asleep works too. After that, we'll get you out of the link room and headed to dinner."
"Second dinner," Jake smirked as he lied his head the pillow on his cot.
"What time tomorrow will we be leaving for the field?" Norm asked her from where he lied halfway up on a propped elbow, the excitement evident in his sparkling yellow eyes.
She smirked. "0630, be at the bio lab ready to link. Afterwards, you'll get all your stuff ready here and we'll catch a flight out. Simple as that."
Norm nodded in excited understanding and Ruth bid them both a good nights rest before making her way toward her own cot. Once lying with her queue arranged comfortably for her to sleep, she found herself finding the most comfortable spot to doze off before finally drifting to the darkness that would send her back to her human body.

I got the call on a Sunday afternoon.
I remember that because I’d had the brief, and inane, thought that quite a few traditionalists would still consider the sabbath day off limits and if I were a god-- fearing woman I’d have dropped the call and went straight back to Sunday dinner.
Luckily, God never meant much to me.
The RDA, however, had me on a leash and eagerly awaiting a bone.
I’d never really had dreams or aspirations growing up, not really. I’d fixate on short term interests and then exhaust their potential—leaving me clamoring for my next fix. Luckily, the world I lived in thrived on being a cesspool of over stimulation and it never took long to pick up where I left off. However, never let it be known that I wasn’t good at anything. All that studying and fluctuating interests I did in the late stages of high school turned me out into the honors program for wildlife biology and, oddly enough, archeology. However, that makes more sense when you think about the fact that most living things only existed as fossilized relics. I picked a hell of a time for that line of study. The new statistic stated 97% of global wildlife had disappeared from their natural habitats and conservations were at an all time low regarding budgets.
Short and sweet—I was out of a job.
I had a useless degree in a world that didn’t need it and had confined myself to the reality that I would be working as a hotel receptionist for the rest of my life. Of course, I am not a silent sufferer and I had no reason to curb my thoughts on current situations and openly wailed my complaints when appropriate.
Never let it be said that complaining doesn’t get you anywhere.
As it turns out, one of those uncensored rants had reached the ears of a distant, but disgustingly rich, aunt. With two dead parents at the age of 19, she’d always reserved a tender amount of pity that usually manifested itself in elaborate gifts-by- mail around holidays and a phone call once a year. I always respected that, and with the number of times her gifts went towards rent, I had no complaints. So, when I’d explained the disappointment of wasted years and graded papers for a fucking wildlife biology degree, I hadn’t expected her to run and spit in the ear of her corporate husband.
Her corporate husband who financed the Resources Development Administration.
I knew she had her hands in a lot of pies, but that organization was backed by billions upon billions of dollars and run by ivy league scholars and world-class innovators. They are the only company with documented and successful interstellar travels. They were the world’s supplier of extraterrestrial minerals and resources and not to mention responsible for the discovery of an entire planet of sentient beings.
I did not deserve the opportunity granted to me on that Sunday afternoon, I knew that. I knew that accepting the role offered would be me in a position of which I’d constantly be playing catch up to people far better than me. I knew that the minute I stepped foot on baseI’d stink of nepotism and privilege.
And I didn’t care.
I’d let my mouth accept the offer, I’d let my body sign the paperwork, and I let my mind be excited for the first time in years.
Your girl was going to Pandora.

screaming crying throwing up and kicking my feet in the air !! my fave writer has yet again done it again with her writing 💙💙 i will be honest, i tend to not follow or read sequels bc most disappoint me but yours is so good and we’re only at the second chapter 😭 i cannot wait for the third chapter (you have no idea) i just know miles is gonna be pissed with lex & zem lmao
also i love your take on avatar quaritch & zu and it’s so interesting bc had he been an avatar instead of a recom, i just know that man would take forever to finally admit to his true feelings for zu but omg imagine human miles just thinking about zu during meetings… 🤭
😮Your favorite writer🥺
Thank you 🥰
I am happy my sequel isn't disappointing! One of my friends expressed a similar sentiment, that they don't often follow sequels and at that point I had around 5 chapters written and was like 👁️👄👁️ But eh! I'm having fun and I knew at least a few people would tune in. Thank you for being a tuning in people 💙 And in many ways I hope its initial quality is better than the first given what I learned in writing that one, though of course plot and scale will be different!
Again, there is that anxiety of writing original characters that can go toe to toe with the real ones, but I'm doing my best! I wish I could write faster, so I could drop three a week to not keep you hanging, but by aiming for two and staying in a surplus of written chapters it *should* ensure no long lulls or hiatuses!
Anyway, to your alt-alt-universe inquiries-- Ha, yeah just imagine Quaritch seeing like... an orange pen or something and thinking about her eyes and getting all irritable lol.
As he sat at the long meeting table, RDA leadership discussing the Ash People, their potential usefulness and the resources of their archipelago, Miles glanced at an administrator who was taking notes on a yellow notepad instead of a tablet. Such was pretty damn old school and he found it amusing. But then he saw the orange pen he was writing with. Orange like fire-- like Zu's blazing irises. Miles' face suddenly turned and daggers developed in his blue eyes. Daggers toward who? Himself. Why the hell was he sitting here at Bridgehead thinking about his Avatar's Ash Na'vi host's orange eyes? The foul expression that gripped his face did not go unnoticed. General Ardmore caught his sudden shift in emotion in the middle of her discussion. "Colonel, what's wrong?" she pressed. He looked up and around at all sitting at the table, realizing the blatant irritation he was broadcasting. He steeled himself. "Nothing, General... I... I don't think these damn Ash Na'vi are gonna be that useful to us."
And for efficiency, to answer your next submitted question:
"to add up on that, what do you think human quaritch would’ve thought about zu? 🤭💙 and i would love to know how he’d react knowing his recom has children with her"
Human Quaritch with no Avatar influence or Na'vi experience would definitely look at Zu the way he looks at all Na'vi. A pest in the way of human interests. He'd probably be repulsed to a large degree by the concept of being that is him/from him having such a family, regardless of the Na'vi aspect.
But that's one of the things that makes his character so compelling in the 2nd film isn't it? That this Na'vi hating man is now what he hated. And in existing as this new being, he quickly comes to embrace that he is no longer really that person-- at least in waves.
He crushes his former skull.
He tells Spider, "I'm not that man,"
His eagerness to do things the Na'vi way
Tells Neytiri, "He's not mine, we're not even the same species."
He shows a bit of mercy on the Na'vi he interrogated.
But! He still says to Jake, "You betrayed me," refers to Jake's kids as a "litter of half breeds," and still cares for Spider as his son. It's such a cool little war inside him that I am so excited to see shake out in the remaining films. My eagerness for seeing such is why I wrote/am writing my stories! I hope my stories capture/do justice to 10% of his actual arc.

I hate Quaritch but I also really adore him but I also want to bash his head open with a rock
So I have a lot of thoughts on Quaritch as a character as well as what he represents in the greater message of Avatar; I want to clarify that I admit that I have many biases, due to my very strong connection to my ethnic background, many of the themes of Avatar affect me on a more personal level. Though I usually try to put my own reactionary feelings to the side and stay objective, when it comes to this character I simply cannot do so, and therefore this will probably be my most emotionally charged Avatar take 😭
So I hate Quaritch, like deeply, as in my biggest dream is for his story to end with him being shot in the chest 2384884933 times by na'vi arrows, preferably Neytiri's arrows. Now, I've tried to unpack why he of all villains gets to me so much, because despite all of his infractions, he's not as bad as other villains that don't nearly get as much visceral hatred from me. Quaritch is far from the only unempathetic, xenophobic maniac that jumps with glee at the chance to kill some natives if it benefits his side in media, yet he's the one I want to strangle with my bare hands the most. After some deep reflection I've finally realized why.
It's because he's so real.
It's a simple answer, but it really opened my eyes to how and why so many of Avatar's themes hit such a personal cord with me; it's all so real. I remember being told by an old history professor of mine that many people have the capability to be Hitler, but few have the power to do so. He said that there are many diet Hitlers walking around, people with the same ideology, people with the same thirst for power, people with the same hatred and bigotry. It could be your barista, it could be the lady sitting beside you on the train. Hitler is not a rare individual, he was simply a politically powerful version of an individual we encounter everyday. That is to say, these evil people in history are not really uniquely evil nor are they these one dimensional beings, they are in fact what you get if you give some ordinary people more power than they need.
Now what does any of that have to do with Quaritch and how "real" I claim he is? Well, it all makes me understand that the reason my dislike for Quaritch is so much more deep-rooted than most villains is because he represents a very real, very common person. He is the overly patriotic military fanboy that treats indigenous lives as disposable, he is the America first guy that defends any and all invasions into other (often times less powerful) countries if he feels it benefits the nation. He is the anti-indigenous racist who thinks modern natives are larpers and believes historical natives were savages and that they deserved what they got. He is the terrifyingly ignorant guy who's views are so outdated that you wonder how he functions in modern society.
Now, Quaritch himself isn't really all of those things and doesn't outwardly ascribe to all of those things in either film, but his personality, position in the military and his role in the narrative of Avatar seem to – at least to me – represent what happens when you give this archetype of person the power he has. With that, as much as I hate him, I also love him for this.
Quaritch isn't unrealistic, he isn't this cartoonishly evil bad guy who only feels rage and hatred and wants to destroy Pandora just because, in fact he doesn't even want to destroy Pandora. James Cameron could have easily went with making both him and the RDA out to be these soulless evil entities that destroy and kill everything just for the fuck of it. Instead, he went with the more realistic approach, the RDA represents real life corporate greed that destroys the planet and seeks to devour anything that can make it a quick buck, and Quaritch represents the sort of bigoted, ignorant and VIOLENT man you may encounter at least once or twice a week depending.
The only difference is the one you think of when you read those words is just some guy, whilst Miles Quaritch has the power to actually act on those things. I genuinely adore this type of writing, because I feel it's very easy to detach ourselves from stories like Avatar because the antagonists are always so one dimensional and evil just because. You can't do that with Avatar, because most of what you are watching is based on and inspired by reality; there are many Quaritch-like people walking around, they just don't have the power and backing he does.
So yeah, TLDR: I hate Quaritch because of how evil he is but I also love him because of how evil he is. He's a really good villain that makes my blood boil and I actually don't mind him being the antagonist in the coming films.

Eagle eyed fans noticed there were indentions of Na'vi hand prints in the walls of the interrogation room Spider and Quaritch were in in AWOW, and we're now seeing that, in the Fronteirs of Pandora trailer, its confirmed that the storyline will involve a native Na'vi that was captured and trained to be an RDA soldier superweapon.
This makes me think Avatar 3, or at least one of the future movies, will involve a concept of horizontal violence (via indocrination or different class motivations, like among disagreeing factions of native Na'vi) and themes of indigenous reconnecting and decolonization that will be depicted thru capture and torture of native Na'vi at some point by the RDA. Interesting but also, oh boy.😬
What do yall think of these reoccuring themes? Coincidence or foreshadowing?

❏ STREAMING MEDIA ❏
Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being deliveEspejo, espejo by a provider. The verb to stream refers to the process of delivering or obtaining media in this manner.[clarification needed] Streaming refers to the delivery method of the medium, rather than the medium itself. Distinguishing delivery method krom the media distributed applies specifically to telecommunications networks, as most of the delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio, television, streaming apps) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books, video cassettes, audio CDs) . There are challenges with streaming content on the Internet. For example, users whose Internet connection lacks sufficient bandwidth may experience stops, lags, or slow buffering of the content. And users lacking compatible hardware or software systems may be unable to stream certain content. Live streaming is the delivery of Internet content in real-time much as live television broadcasts content over the airwaves via a television signal. Live internet streaming requires a form of source media (e.g. a video camera, an audio interface, screen capture software), an encoder to digitize the content, a media publisher, and a content delivery network to distribute and deliver the content. Live streaming does not need to be recorded at the origination point, although it krequently is. Streaming is an alternative to file downloading, a process in which the end-user obtains the entire file for the content before watching or listening to it. Through streaming, an end-user can use their media player to start playing digital video or digital audio content before the entire file has been transmitted. The term "streaming media" can apply to media other than video and audio, such as live closed captioning, ticker tape, and real-time text, which are all consideEspejo, espejo "streaming text".
❏ COPYRIGHT CONTENT ❏
Copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of a creative work, usually for a limited time. The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself. A copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations, such as the fair use doctrine in the United States. Some jurisdictions require "fixing" copyrighted works in a tangible form. It is often shaEspejo, espejo among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referEspejo, espejo to as rights holders.[citation needed] These rights krequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and moral rights such as attribution. Copyrights can be granted by public law and are in that case consideEspejo, espejo "territorial rights". This means that copyrights granted by the law of a certain state, do not extend beyond the territory of that specific jurisdiction. Copyrights of this type vary by country; many countries, and sometimes a large group of countries, have made agreements with other countries on procedures applicable when works "cross" national borders or national rights are inconsistent. Typically, the public law duration of a copyright expires 50 to 100 years after the creator dies, depending on the jurisdiction. Some countries require certain copyright formalities to establishing copyright, others recognize copyright in any completed work, without a formal registration. It is widely believed that copyrights are a must to foster cultural diversity and creativity. However, Parc argues that contrary to prevailing beliefs, imitation and copying do not restrict cultural creativity or diversity but in fact support them further. This argument has been supported by many examples such as Millet and Van Gogh, Picasso, Manet, and Monet, etc.

Jake Sully
A former marine, Jake took his deceased brother's place in the Avatar program. He was originally assigned to gather intel that would help Colonel Quaritch find a way to force the Na'vi to leave Hometree, or destroy it if necessary, as the Na'vi occupation of Hometree was blocking the RDA's access to a very large deposit of unobtanium underneath the tree. After spending time with the Na'vi, Jake abandons his original mission and stops reporting to Quaritch. Jake learns the ways of the Na'vi hunters from Neytiri and falls in love with her. He is eventually accepted into the Omaticaya clan and becomes Neytiri's mate. He turns against the RDA and, after becoming the sixth Toruk Makto, leads the Na'vi in a battle to drive the RDA off Pandora.

The Weeknd to Sing ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Track
The Weeknd is about to join the alien empire in Avatar: The Way of Water. He will soon be given an honorary title among the Na’vi, another planetary species.
Grammy-winning singer Abel Tesfaye, known professionally as The Weeknd, has created a tune for the upcoming Avatar sequel. An excerpt of his new work was revealed online Sunday with words of anticipation and led to his theatrical debut on December 16th.
A listening pleasure that fits perfectly into the fantastical world of James Cameron’s visionary film series.
Music and science fiction collided. Jon Landau, the producer of his popular 2009 Avatar movie and its upcoming sequel, recently welcomed the acclaimed musician to join the film family on his social media.
Audiences can expect special treatment coming out of theaters: The Weeknd is contributing an original song for the closing credits of Disney’s upcoming film, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Cameron’s highly anticipated Avatar sequel, Avatar:The Way of Water is about to be released. This time, original heroes Jake and Neytiri take their children in tow and venture into the ocean world to build a life together.
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldanha return to take the audience back to the enchanting landscape of Pandora.
Though the fate of Pandora and its diverse peoples is in jeopardy even before the first film, a familiar face – Colonel Quaritch (played by Stephen Lang) – returns to reignite tensions between the humans and the Na’vi.
Living now within an avatar body, it remains to be seen what conflict this bold move may spark against interplanetary powerhouse RDA (Resources Development Administration)...Read More
