Just rolling around in my brain how isolated and affection starved all these (romanceable) companions are, pre-tadpole

Karlach spent a decade in Avernus fighting and dodging devils

Shadowheart was ostracized by her cloister for damn near her whole life

Gale was isolated from most mortals and spent a year in near-total isolation in his tower

Wyll had been traveling basically solo as the Blade of Frontiers since he was kicked out of the Gate a teen

Astarion spent two centuries getting tortured and isolated by Cazador

Lae’zel might have had a better social life, but comes from a culture that devalues physical and emotional tenderness/closeness

Halsin spent the last century obsessing over the shadow curse

No wonder all these people are out here going feral for the first person (Tav) that shows them kindness/softness/physical touch/protection

Maybe this is just me, but I can't but feel that the people who say that ascended Astarion will surely turn horrid and abusive towards Tav somewhere down the line, have very little faith in him.

It's not like the ritual swapped him with an asshole doppelganger, he's still the same Astarion who confessed to you in act. 2 and who has made it very clear that he wants safety for the both of you.

Will that power warp that into him being overprotective and possessive? More than likely.

Is it better to take away the sun from him and leave him extremely dependent on you for safety instead? I personally don't think so, but I am also biased in this regard.

In the end, neither route is gonna give you the "perfect happy ending"

Just... Have some faith in the man, he's earned that much 🖤

astarion is so MCR coded and not just for the obvious (vampire) reasons. but like the entire ascension ritual is so "sacrifice the souls of 1000 evil men to get the thing you want only to realize you're sacrificing your humanity the process"

I just fucking realized something that makes Astarion's backstory just a little bit worse. Y'know how he mentions that Cazador ''made a lot of revisions as he went'' When carving the runes into his back? Now think about this: He's carving them in order for them to eventually become scars. You can't erase a mark.. Unless.. You have vampire regeneration.

Everytime Astarion got a little too comfortable/uncomfortable within the scenario, he'd tell him to heal to START OVER ENTIRELY. That's my take from this. Too much winching? Heal yourself, I am starting over. Too little noise after a while? Heal yourself, I need the noise to focus.

It was a rough night.

Doing something like that over and over to someone until your wicked sense is satisfied... Ugh. As well- You'd have to imagine Astarion needing to turn on/off the regeneration manually, so that they end up as scars. That sounds fucking exhausting. That's torment a 100 times worse.

Vampires look beautiful and perfect because their bodies don't age and their wounds heal. You want to scar one? If you turn their healing off. (Which can be done with daylight and holy water as well.)

This also explains when you're ascending Astarion, it works because Cazador can't heal his fresh wound- you just knocked all his energy out, he can't regenerate after the fight. It needed to be marks that don't disappear and the set pieces in place- just to seal the deal.
