👀 Do you think Ford likes cats?
I have a✨ theory✨ that Stan is a dog person for sure. Larger bred mutts he’s collected over the years and one tiny dog that’s a MENACE.
Ford feels like a cat person. They weren’t able to have pets as kids, but that probably didn’t stop them from loving on strays and finding comfort and solace in them. Anyway Ford pre-portal knew he couldn’t have a cat at the shack he just can’t. But POST?? Mabel brings the up to Stan and Dipper and after much grumbling from Stan. They set off to find Grunkle Ford the perfect companion.
Mabel thinks a pet might get him out of his shell and additionally provide some comfort for issues he may have gotten while being an inter dimensional traveling. Plus she can put them in matching sweaters. 😭😭
YES, Ford's totally a big cat person. He's got those vibes. I've always thought that if he was turned into a common family pet, he'd be a cat and Stan would be a dog. The first cat he gets on his own in his old age would have polydactyly like he does in the form of mitten paws, that's like just an unshakable fact. not sure what he'd name it, but Little Sixer is a contender.
though i'm not sure his fam didn't have pets when looking at the stan and ford lost legends comic
Tumblr media
unless this cat isn't actually theirs and Ma Pines is just giving some random stranger's cat their fortune, I'm pretty sure they at least had this cat as a pet. I guess you could say it wasn't strictly Stan or Ford's cat, and it was Ma's cat or something, but to say they didn't have pets is headcanon if you don't take lost legends as canon i suppose
outside of my random ramble, yeah i like this. thanks for the ask and i'm sorry i got delayed in answering it (I wanted to get a pic of this panel because i knew it existed but i was too lazy yesterday lol)

Motherly Advice
by Jackie Burke
I have spent almost two years at Emerson, twenty years walking the earth, and three summers mentoring young women. With the help of my friends, and through the knowledge I have gained in my mistakes, I have learned a great deal of lessons in my life. And now, I’d like to teach them.
This column will cover a wide array of topics pertaining to sex, school, friendship, romance, etc. Through this medium, I intend to pass some of the lessons I have leaned on to the reader. However, I do also want to acknowledge that I am a straight, white, cisgender woman, so some of my advice may be skewed toward my perspective.
Looking back, the most valuable lessons I have learned can all be attributed to my mother, without whom I would not have the insight to create this column. She’s a clever, hilarious, hard-working hippie who has made me into the woman I am. I cannot think of a better way to start off this series than to share some of my favorite pieces of advice that she has given me.
Try all the types of ice cream
I distinctly remember one day when my sister and I were caught up in traffic with my mother in the car. We were young, around 10 years old, and my sister asked my mother how many people she had dated before marrying my father. She estimated that it was somewhere in the 20s, an amount that seemed very large to me at the time. When my mom noticed me and my sister’s reactions to her guess, she began to explain a strange, but helpful metaphor: men are like different flavors of ice cream.
She told us that if we had never tried rocky road or bubblegum ice cream, we would never really know if it was our favorite or not. If we only dated one person, or one type of person, for our whole lives, we would never know if the one we end up choosing is the best “flavor” for us. For two young women whose lives revolved around ice cream, the analogy made perfect sense.
This can be especially relevant to people who feel like they’re stuck in a relationship or want to branch out more. I often hear my friends talking about wanting to “keep their number down,” and, at one point, I felt the same way. But if you only try four types of ice cream in life, you might get stuck with chocolate without ever having tried fudge ripple.
If you love someone, let them go
My parents first began dating as undergraduates at Boston University. After two years, they were forced to make a decision about their relationship when my mother graduated and moved to Oregon for the winter to teach skiing. This situation is not unfamiliar for college couples who are separated due to summer breaks, studying abroad, or post-college plans. Though some may want to make long-distance relationships work, this can be extremely emotionally straining and unrealistic for some people. My mother, knowing that the distance would be too hard, made the decision to break up with my father. She did this based on the cliche: if you love someone, let them go. If they leave, they were never yours to begin with; if they come back, it was meant to be. Though this seems optimistic, it ended up working for them. Not only did it give my parents time to grow as individuals, it helped them decide whether or not they wanted to make a long term commitment to one another. My father flew out a few months later to visit her and my she followed him back. Now they’ve been together for over 30 years.
There’s no reason to go through the unnecessary stress of trying to make something happen that geographically can’t. If a relationship is strong enough and circumstances later in life change, two people will find their way back to one another the way my parents did.
Never eat chicken wings on a first date
This one is pretty self explanatory. In the words of my mother, “No one looks attractive eating chicken wings.”

Planning to write an essay on the limited Ford and Mabel bonding in the show and well, I thought of approaching you if you have any pointers. Especially dispelling any misconceptions by the fandom whether Ford overlooked Mabel or the bond she shared with her brother.
I think the main misconception I see is that Ford didn't care about Mabel at all in comparison to Dipper. Or, in some ridiculously extreme cases, that he hates her.
People forget that Mabel was the first twin he interacted with, and it was largely positive. Ford laughed and said he liked her when she stated that his six fingered handshake was one finger friendlier than normal.
The Last Mabelcorn being the episode where Ford interacted with Mabel the most gives a big insight into how he feels about her. First, he agreed with Mabel when she stated she was probably the most pure of heart in the room (i forget the exact phrasing but same difference). He trusted her with the unicorn mission, even knowing that the unicorns were difficult. And last of all, he directly tells her that she is a good person without even knowing the struggle she went through with her morality moments prior.
Dipper and Mabel vs The Future is contentious in this regard, fans often using it as proof that Ford doesn't care about Mabel just because he asked Dipper to stay in Gravity Falls. But honestly, Ford cared enough to observe Mabel's social skills with the pizza delivery guy, plus probably witnessing plenty of instances of Mabel handling herself without Dipper's help. He genuinely believed that Mabel could handle being without her brother outside of the summers.
Plus, it isn't like Mabel was forthright about her feelings about leaving Gravity Falls and growing up until she blew up at the end of the episode. Obviously there are things to be said about Ford taking Dipper on as an apprenticeship being a good or a bad idea depending on who you ask, but Ford didn't know how badly Mabel would take it. He thought he was doing Dipper a favor by giving him a head start on his studies and, as I previously mentioned, that Mabel would be fine at home. That the two could reach a compromise if needed.
Ford isn't perfect though, he does tend to project himself onto Dipper after finding out how similar he thinks he is to him. That might've affected how often he spends with either twin or how he saw their bond, but to say that he doesn't care about Mabel at all is simply misguided. He cares about them both so much. His traumatic experience with his own twin just tainted how he saw the twins' bond being something that could be potentially suffocating. He does sorta have a point though, Dipper and Mabel can't force each other to stay glued at the hip forever or it could potentially stifle their individual dreams if handled badly. But that's just my 'controversial' opinion right there i guess, so take it with a grain of salt if you wish.
And besides, if we were gonna get upset at Ford for favoring Dipper over Mabel, you might as well also get upset at Stan for favoring Mabel over Dipper in some honestly worse ways than Ford ever did to Mabel. Stan literally projected his father's abusive ways onto Dipper and justified being hard on him with 'toughening him up'. Not to mention how he made Dipper the butt of his jokes so often it drove Dipper to seek out time with Ford over him because Ford never made fun of him like that. Obviously Stan does care about Dipper too, but the double standards in this fandom when it comes to how the grunkles treat the twins is honestly flabbergasting. Neither grunkle is perfect in how they handle the twins, neither are 'better' in their methods, and I think that's the point.
it doesn't help that Ford doesn't get a lot of screentime compared to Stan, as i'm sure you're already aware.
anyway, if you have any more questions, feel free to let me know. hope this was a good insight into all this Ford and Mabel business.

FORD FOR HCS BACK AT YA ! if it hasntbeen asked that. if so, dipper >:))
you're the first to give me a character name, so I'll do Ford haha.
Headcanon A (realistic): Ford is some flavor of neurodivergent. You can't tell me this guy is neurotypical in canon. I usually think of him being autistic specifically but other neurodivergencies are valid too. He doesn't get diagnosed until after Weirdmageddon due to stigma and dealing with everything else.
Headcanon B (not realistic, but funny): Ford likes smile dip more than anybody. he likes the weird trips they send him on. almost an addiction. Fiddleford and eventually Stan has to pull him away from it before it's too late most of the time lol.
Headcanon C (soul crushing):
Ford holds little regard for his life, making him appear dangerously reckless to others. Exacerbated after finding out he was tricked by Bill. His travels were always dangerous, almost suicidally so when it came to fighting Bill, but Ford talks about his near-death experiences afterwards as nonchalantly as if losing his life wasn't a concern. Stan's reaction to those stories is usually horror that Ford thinks is undue.
Headcanon D (screw canon):
Ford is mostly blind in one of his eyes due to the possessions from Bill making it bleed. Nobody would know this until he mentions something about not really having depth perception anymore. It affected him for years, being a blind spot for attackers, but he adapted. no this is totally not me thinking about my blind ford au and trying to make a headcanon out of it that makes some sense why're you asking?
Anyway, thanks for the ask! if I think of headcanons for Dipper, I'll reblog this with them! unlikely but y'know.

4+5+6 Ford Pines for the ask game please
Tumblr media
(Please🥹)
4. Best places to kiss on their body
Ford's not really one for kisses, especially being the receiver of them, but he'll allow forehead kisses from his niblings. Or maybe a rare kiss-it-better from Mabel if he ever shows a recent injury.
5. Guilty Pleasures
Jelly beans. He can't get enough of them. Those bean boozled challenges cannot beat him and he loves the risk factor. Could eat jelly beans as his only sustenance if needed, screw normal nutrition!
6. Their vices (physical or emotional)
Bottles his emotions up until he eventually explodes from the pressure. Passed down from his father, who instilled the idea that emotions will make him weak into his mind until he fully believed it. So whatever emotion it is, whether bitterness or sadness or fear gets buried until he can't hold it in and he has an emotional breakdown. Ford has one of his first emotional breakdowns outside of the portal right after Weirdmageddon finally ends.
thanks for the ask! sorry it took a bit to get around to it.

9, 11 and 18 for ford for that one ask game!!!
Tumblr media
lol thanks for the silly Ford pic haha
now onto the headcanons!
9. Humiliating memories
He has a lot of humiliating memories surrounding his childhood bullies and school. From simple mockery about his six fingers and intellect to being pantsed more than a few times after school, there were plenty of memories Ford would rather pretend he didn't still remember even in his old age.
11. Bad or petty habits
He's always on top of correcting people's grammar, even if not maliciously. The wrong grammar just sounds so grating to him and it's tough for him not to notice it enough to mention it. After that zodiac fiasco with Stan, however, he does at least try to keep it to himself from then on. But some grammar errors are just too atrocious to ignore.
totally not me projecting on him in this way, definitely not.
18. Things they’ll never admit
That he still cared about Stan deep down, at least before their reconciliation. He just pretended he didn't and that losing him to the streets didn't affect him even when it did. The anger was real, but the love was never taken away fully even when he buried it in the depths of his heart. emotionally constipated old man, I love you /p
anyway, thanks for the ask!!! I loved answering it!!!

14, 15, 24 for the choose violence ask game?
14. that one thing you see in fics all the time
kdfjlsdj i don't think i read enough fic to notice, but I guess I'll say that sometimes Ford flaws are noticed in a way that just feel like the author is pointing them out just to point them out rather than being meaningful in the fic with them while Stan gets treated as being right all the time. or the most right at least. or like a perfect victim with his point of view always sounding sympathetic and stuff. stuff like that (stuff i intend to play around with in my current fic, as you must know LOL)
15. that one thing you see in fanart all the time
idk, Ford having blue eyes even though it's implied that eye in TLM is Fiddleford's? great to have headcanons, i just notice it all the time lol.
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
anything to do with Mabel and morality, especially on Reddit. I did one post defending her right out of finishing the show and i got swarmed enough to delete the post out of anxiety and frustration lmao. I've seen absolutely vile stuff said about her and it makes me sick thinking about it...
anyway, thanks for the ask! totally down for more lol.

Does it count as a question if I ask you to share some of your Ford or Stan headcanons?
sure, why not
I really like the Ford is autistic headcanon and have formally accepted it into my readings of the character. If you're reading one of my fics, he's autistic even if I never make allusion to it.
Ford experiences seizures and a dangerously slow heartbeat after the electrical torture he went through during Weirdmageddon, necessitating meds and a pacemaker. I've explored these concepts in a couple fics. (Here and here respectively, if you're curious)
a relatively popular headcanon from what I've seen, but Stan experiences bouts of amnesia sometimes after Weirdmageddon. It always scares him to wake up and not remember where he is. Good thing he has Ford to remind him until the memories return again.
Ford adopts a polydactyl cat sometime in his sea travels with Stan. No question.
A bit of a funny one, but Stan makes name puns every time he sees a Ford brand car. Ford pretends to not be amused, but he enjoys the jokes.
I could probably think of more, but I don't want to take forever to get this answered haha. thanks for the ask!
