I was going through my books, trying to decide what to read next, when I noticed that I had a lot of collections of short stories.
So i've decided to play a reading game.
I've written out a list of all of the short story collections I own and given each a corresponding number. I'll roll a die and I'll read a random story from a collection with the corresponding number. The goal is to read my way through the list and sample how each writer approaches short story writing. Some of these are writers I've read novels or novellas but not short stories, some I've read other stories, and some I've never read anything from before.
Here's the list with corresponding numbers, 17 collections from 17 writers from various genres and eras.
1. The Complete Solomon Kane by Robert E. Howard
2. The Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway
3. The Best of Richard Matheson
4. The Complete Western Stories of Elmore Leonard
5. Poseidonis by Clark Ashton Smith
6. Books of Bloods Vol.2 by Clive Barker
7. The Complete John Silence Stories by Algernon Blackwood
8. In the Land of the Lost and other Fantasy Stories by Lord Dunsany
9. A Song for Lyra by George R. R. Martin
10. The White People and Other Weird Stories by Arthur Machen
11. Vathek and Other Stories by William Beckforth
12. The Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft
13. The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski
14. Tales of the Jazz Age by F. Scott Fitzgerald
15. Departures by Harry Turtledove
16. Night Shift by Stephen King
17. Dracula's Guest and Other Stories by Bram Stoker

being a die hard 5sos fan since 2016 and a new måneskin fan is such an interesting experience. cause i’m so excited for luke and ashton to release their second solo albums, and seeing luke on the red carpet the other night was so exciting!!! and i have never been less worried about a 5sos breakup!! but so many må fans are worried their gonna break up bc damiano got lunch with travis barker and went to the same event alone, and i dont think he’s done a red carpet alone before. like him doing this is so normal and lowkey to me?? like ofc he’s there alone he has to compete his side quests!!!

Here is a list of 50 of my current all time theatre dream roles (musicals and non-musicals) because I am a female acting major who is having trouble in believing my dreams for my future are attainable at this current moment:
1. Christine Daaé - Phantom of the Opera
2. Emily Webb - Our Town
3. Belle - Beauty and the Beast
4. Katherine Plumber - Newsies the Musical
5. Elizabeth Bennet - Pride and Prejudice
6. Veronica Sawyer - Heathers the Musical
7. Maria - The Sound of Music/or/West Side Story
8. Hodel - Fiddler on the Roof
9. Zazzalil - Firebringer
10. Eliza - Hamilton
11. Laurie Williams - Oklahoma
12. Cinderella - Into the Woods/or/Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella
13. Narrator - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat
14. Princess Anna - Frozen the Musical
15. Hermia - A Midsummer Nights Dream
16. Elphaba - Wicked
17. Glinda - Wicked
18. Éponine - Les Misérables
19. Winnifred the Woebegone - Once Upon A Mattress
20. Miss Honey - Matilda the Musical
21. Ariel Moore - Footloose the Musical
22. Dorothy Gale - The Wizard of Oz
23. Lucy van Pelt - You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown
24. Princess Fiona - Shrek the Musical
25. Viola - Twelve Night
26. Hermione Granger - A Very Potter Musical Trilogy
27. Ginny Weasley - A Very Potter Musical
28. Eliza Doolittle - My Fair Lady
29. Leading Player - Pippin
30. Natalie Haller - All Shook Up
31. Miss Saundra - All Shook Up
32. Cosette - Les Misérables
33. Princess Ariel - The Little Mermaid the Musical

41. Gertrude Fail - Failure: A Love Story
42. Brooke Ashton - Noises Off
43. Megara - Hercules the Musical
44. Mary Poppins - Mary Poppins
45. Nora Helmer - A Dolls House
46. Queen Elsa - Frozen the Musical
47. Charity Hope Valentine - Sweet Charity
48. Fanny Brice - Funny Girl
49. Anya - Anastasia
50. Jane - Tarzan
There’s probably even some that I forgot to put on this list that should probably be in the place of some of these other roles, but I did want to incorporate roles from non-musicals as well. I do acknowledge that this list is still very much mostly musicals, but I fear I have not read many straight plays. Also, most of the work I’ve already done is musical theatre. Which is why I’m an acting major. I want to be exposed to more pieces of theatre that don’t have singing and dancing. There are a bunch of shows that I would love to be in, but don’t necessarily have dream roles solely because they are either ensemble heavy productions or they would just be really fun projects to work on. For example, my school, Illinois State University, just did Bonnie and Clyde the Musical. That shit was GUT WRENCHING. I would have loved to be apart of that project. I don’t exactly have a dream role in that show because every role in Bonnie and Clyde is so essential to telling that story. I am however, working on my first MainStage production here at ISU. I am playing the Nurse in Equus. Again, not a show that I had any dream role going into being cast in this project. But, this story is very heavy and unique. I have never worked on a show as different and dramatic as this one. I am really excited to be part of this cast, and I will be happy to post information about this show in the weeks to come, or you can message me and ask for more details! Thanks for reading my extra long blog post for today! :)

four wanted connections have been added to the page !
ALTAN TYRELL ( berk cankat ) is in search of their FORMER BETROTHED ( romantic ). they are around 28 - 32 and might look like anna popplewell , matilda lutz , ni ni , faceclaim utp suggestions. it is required to message them before applying ( @SIOGNAES ). further details can be possibly someone from close by ( the reach , westerlands , or stormlands preferably . we can discuss this as well ) who come from a more prominent house that wants to form / maintain their alliance with house tyrell ( more on business ) , i will say they were engaged for quite sometime until it was cut off ( reasons tbd. the angstier the better . their break up couldve been why altan decided to travel instead of settle )
YSILLA ARRYN ( matilda de angelis ) is in search of their BETROTHED ( romantic ). they are around 26 - 30 and might look like arnas fedaravicius, callum turner, ewan mitchell, jose ramon barreto, jung jaewon, philip froissant, sam retford, woo dohwan, kelvin harrison jr., luke chen or utp. it is required to message them before applying ( monarkhes ). the timeline of the betrothal is open to discussion but the base idea is that the character in question should be an extreme opposite to ysilla ─ reckless and prone to impulsive decisions, extroverted and always up for an adventure, someone in desperate need of an image rehaul. the union was likely proposed by his family in an effort to find someone to mellow him out or keep him in line, so perhaps he chafes at the idea of being betrothed to her. ysilla, in contrast, has no expectation out of this and means to do her duty ─ something else that could bother him, seeing as she is so willing to do as she is told even if he makes it difficult for her to like him. the vibes for this is something in line with enemies to lovers, unknowingly falling in love, mutual annoyances, dearly detested beloveds, being mean and having it be mistaken for flirting, loving you even if it is hard work, etc.
GÜLHAN TYRELL ( beste kokdemir ) is in search of their LADIES IN WAITING ( other ). they are around 24+ and might look like esther yu, amy james kelly, thalissa teixeira, ellise chappell, maddison jaizani, liv hill, melodie wakivuamina, daisy ridley, hannah dodd, ruby barker, anna popplewell, sai bennett or utp. it is not required to message them before applying ( monarkhes ). unsurprisingly, gülhan goes through ladies in waiting quicker than she does tissues ─ most had been unable to fulfill her many demands and those who had succeeded had been rewarded for their service with good marriages arranged by her hand. she presently has two ladies in waiting, though both should be from the reach or the surrounding regions. the elder of the two ( approximately 28 - 30 ) has been by her side since their youth. selfishly, gülhan refuses to be without her and becomes cold towards her if any mention of marriage is brought up. it would be interesting to see if this lady is betrothed and has been keeping it a secret as gülhan will view it as an utmost betrayal. the younger of the two ( approximately 24 - 26 ) is a new addition to the household and extremely impressionable. eager to please, this lady is taken by the sights and sounds of highgarden and admires gülhan greatly. on her part, gülhan feels extremely protective over the younger lady and has taken on a sisterly role to them, advising them and guiding them as she was once advised and guided by the elders of her family.
GÜLHAN TYRELL ( beste kokdemir ) is in search of their SENIOR LADY IN WAITING ( other ). they are around 35+ and might look like charity wakefield, gemma chan, heida reed, golshifteh farahani, phoebe fox, zawe ashton, rafaelle cohen or utp. it is not required to message them before applying ( monarkhes ). the word senior is used to irritate the aforementioned lady more often than not, though compared to the other ladies in gülhan's household, she is the most experienced in matters of womanhood ─ married with children ( or widowed, if that better suits the backstory ), this lady was once the youngest lady in waiting to gülhan's mother who, after the arrangements were made for gülhan's marriage, was sent to serve as a chaperone and mentor in all matters of marriage and motherhood. there is no one that gülhan trusts more in this world. a co - conspirator in gülhan's efforts to bring education to the smallfolk, the two enjoy formulating plans for their charity works together. this lady was also the one who assisted in the birth of her daughter and who protected her daughter when gülhan went head - to - head with her in - laws after the death of her husband.

I've read a lot of books this year so here's a little year in review type thing for the books I read and my opinions on them.
The Books of Blood (Vol. 1-3).
By: Clive Barker
I liked these! They're anthologies, so your mileage may vary with some of them, but I love horror anthologies and I like Clive Barker's work. Also, fun for anime/video game fans: Chris Patton narrates some of the stories within the series if you get the audiobook too(he's a very good narrator and I loved the stories he did).
The Damnation Game
By: Clive Barker
This one was slow to start for me, but once the plot really started kicking off, I liked it. Barker does some body horror and otherwise disgusting stuff in it and I love that from his horror.
(Cheating a little on this one because I started it last year, but give me a break, okay?)
The Stand
By: Stephen King
I hated this book. It's so bad, he keeps telling, not showing us, how good certain characters are but their actions say otherwise. Most of the characters are very one dimensional, and those who aren't are the ""bad guys"". Nothing happens for most of the book, the characters do not drive the plot, and then God or whatever just strikes down the biggest foes and everything is good.
The King in Yellow
By: Robert W. Chambers
I wanted to like this, but most of the stories are slow moving, so it was difficult to stay focused on it. The lore is pretty cool though.
The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls
By: Emilie Autumn
Another I wanted to like more, but was let down. That's on me partially since I went in as a fan of the author and had high expectations. She's not a *bad* storyteller, but I felt like the ending dragged on too long and she spends too much of the beginning with Emilie with an ie when the bulk of the story revolves around Emily with a y. She also does some uncomfortable things in how she talks about some characters too, so there's that.
Hyperion
By: Dan Simmons
I was surprised that I liked this one! I normally am not the biggest Sci Fi fan, but I liked the story within a story format and the characters were interesting and varied enough that they each stood on their own. His prose is also good, especially in the Poet's section. That said, I heard some bigotry is in the rest of the series, so I will not be reading the rest, even if I'm interested in the lore.
The Lottery and Other Stories
By: Shirley Jackson
I love her work, so this was a fun time for me. Parts felt like a fun Twilight Zone episode and I enjoyed that. Not much to say, Shirley Jackson is a solid author and her works don't disappoint.
The End of the Story
By: Clark Ashton Smith
I liked this one! It's an anthology that's a little bit horror, a little bit Sci Fi, a little bit romance. Like with the other anthologies, your mileage may vary, but overall, a solid anthology. I particularly liked the "guy goes evil because evil witch pussy was so good" story. We love an evil power couple.
Spinning Silver
By: Naomi Novik
I LOVED THIS BOOK. This year was the year of Slavic folklore for me. Novik is such a good story teller and her descriptions are so beautiful. Her protagonists are all really great characters and the overarching story between them is fascinating. I could gush about this book all day, but I'm not.
Jaws
By: Peter Benchley
IMO the movie was better. I'm glad to have read the book, but I liked the movie better. Maybe it's nostalgia that colors my opinion, IDK. I don't have much to say about the book except maybe they spend too much time not dealing with the shark and instead having affairs and stuff.
Lasher
By: Anne Rice
This book was literally just me torturing myself. I reread The Witching Hour too, which I did not enjoy. Somehow, the sequel is even worse! Rice tries to make Julian a more redeemable character which, like, bruh. How? Also, I disliked Michael in the first one and this one had me like pitch the whole man onto the deepest pit of Hell. I hate him. Also, I feel like she retconned Lasher's race/origin in this but I can't confirm because I refuse to research it just to make a point.
Waking the Moon
By: Elizabeth Hand
This book has been living in my head rent free since I finished it. I liked it a lot. It's a supernatural horror with a bisexual protagonist. It was written in the 90's, so not everything aged well, but it's nearly 30 years old and at least from my perspective, it seemed like she was trying to be compassionate in how she portrayed the things that didn't age well.
Kushiel's Dart
By: Jacqueline Carey
Jacqueline Carey is a queen! This book was so good! I wasn’t expecting what openly says it's an erotica to have such complex world building and political intrigue (I expect it from fanfiction but fanfiction authors are the MVPs). Characters are great. Joscelin is yet another unrealistic standard for men because he manages to be the protector LI trope while respecting Phedre's autonomy and desires. I also loved the Phedre being a sex worker is something Joscelin needs to accept if he wants her in his life, not something that she needs to give up (she likes being a sex worker btw) to keep him. Loved it. Loved this book.
The Bear and the Nightingale
By: Katherine Arden
Slavic Folklore #2! I wanted to like this one more, but I found it hard to keep focused on it. Not a terrible book, but it wasn't for me. There were some scenes in the back half of the book that I found were particularly well written and interesting though.
Fire and Blood
By: George R.R. Martin
Unpopular opinion (maybe), but I had a lot more fun with this than the main series. I liked the whole "George is just a guy compiling the history of Westeros" angle. There was this humor about it that I found very charming and refreshing. I liked it a lot.
The 71/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
By: Stuart Turton
The initial premise was interesting and I didn't hate this book, but it really fumbles the bag in the ending. One of the twists is so unsatisfying and frankly it kills an otherwise strong book for me as a result. The prose is beautiful, though, and I would recommend it just because that part is enjoyable.
Juniper and Thorn
By: Ava Reid
Slavic Folklore # 3! This book. This fucking book changed me as a person. It was a difficult read at parts just because it hit several of my traumas squarely on the head and made me feel emotions I thought I was far beyond. It's a fantastic book though. I do not begrudge the book since the point of the book was discussing these traumas. I literally finished it and laid down and cried after finishing it because it was so good and I was in my feelings after it.
The Wolf and the Huntsman
By: Ava Reid
Slavic Folklore # 4! I literally ran out and bought this book the day after finishing Juniper and Thorn since I loved it so much. I liked this one a lot, but it was definitely more of an epic fantasy rather than the more contained study on trauma. Still a good book though, and I would recommend it.
A Dowry of Blood
By: S.T Gibson
A sort of retelling of Dracula from the perspective of one of Dracula's brides and also a tale of spousal abuse. Very bisexual and polyamorous with neither of those elements being why Dracula is a bad husband. It felt like a bit of catharsis, and I liked that aspect of it, however, Alexei is introduced so late in the story that I was wanting to know him a little more before the climax truly started. Not bad though.
House of Hunger
By: Alexis Henderson
Sapphic Vampires (sort of. They never elaborate if Lisavet is actually a vampire)! This is kind of a horror/thriller that skirts the line between romance and horror. I liked that Marion, the MC, is sapphic before Lisavet comes into the picture and isn't made straight when she leaves. That said, I felt the book spends too much time with some segments and not enough time with others. That meant sometimes the audience has to be told things since context clues just aren't there. The most egregious imo being with Marion's brother. Not bad though. It's fun and lavish.
(I have two weeks left of the year and more in my tbr list so maybe more to come)

Scott Disick cuts a comfy figure in black sweater and gray shorts
Tumblr media
looked relaxed while leaving Polacheck's Jewelers in Calabasas with a bodyguard on Wednesday.
The 39-year-old reality television star donned a bulky black sweater with a white symbol on his chest and a multicolored design running up his right arm.
He added gray shorts to the ensemble which ended above his knees, and he walked in well-worn white sneakers.
Tumblr media
His dark brown hair was combed off to the right, and his thick brown beard extended far off his strong jawline.
Disick added black sunglasses to protect his eyes from the harsh Southern California sun. He carried a water and a bodyguard joined him on his outing.
The father-of-three's appearance out came after he reportedly told friends he was 'done' with Kanye West because of the 45-year-old's anti-Semitic remarks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sources close to the Flip It Like Disick star told  that he was 'very disappointed' with the Donda rapper.
'Scott and Kanye had gotten really close over the years,' one insider revealed. 'And although they’ve since grown apart, Scott is very disappointed over Kanye’s recent remarks about Jewish people.
'Even though Scott isn’t super religious, he takes Judaism seriously and even made a special trip to Israel a few years ago where he was blessed by a rabbi.'
Despite how disappointed Scott is, the source revealed he hasn't reached out to West because he 'really doesn’t see a point.'
'He doesn’t think anything good would come out of it because Kanye has clearly made up his mind. Now that Kanye and Kim [Kardashian] are nearly divorced, and Kourtney [Kardashian] and Scott have broken up for good, there’s really no reason for them to hang out.'
Tumblr media
Another source confirmed the news and said Disick started to become frustrated with West after the rapper went on tirades about Kim's former beau Pete Davidson.
'He thought that Kanye showed his true colors then,' the insider elaborated. 'And now, after all of this, Scott is done with Kanye. He has nothing to say to him ever again and he does not want his kids to associate with him either. His actions are unjustifiable, and Scott does not understand why he would purposely hurt so many people. It makes no sense to Scott.'
Earlier this month, West made several comments on social media targeting Jewish people including saying he would go 'death con 3 on Jewish people.'
He added, 'You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone who opposes your agenda.' He's since been dropped by Adidas and Balenciaga for his statements, and Vogue reportedly will no longer work with the once beloved rapper.
While Disick has ben dealing with quite a bit in his own personal life, his ex Kourtney bought a Santa Barbara home for $14.5 million with her new husband Travis Barker. The ocean front home used to belong to talk show host Conan O'Brien.
Tumblr media
Scott Disick enjoys Labor Day Weekend with family on the water
The property is technically located in Carpinteria, which is very close to the tony Santa Barbara area where several celebrities live.
The gray and white home is situated so close to the beach it only takes a few steps down a short staircase to get to the shore.
There is also a large porch that has a view of the Pacific Ocean. It was made for entertaining as it fits a dining room table and also has a built in barbecue. Below is an outdoor shower.
Inside there it is big enough for their brood - she has three kids as does he - as it is more than 2,100 square feet.
There are two bedrooms with a guest house that has another two bedrooms.
They have some fancy neighbors too: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis.
TV personality Conan has made a nice profit on the home.  He purchased it in 2015 for $8 million and put some money into it, only to get $14.5 million out of the Barkers.
Scott Disick and daughter Penelope joke about his math skills
Kourtney and Travis do not live together yet, but rather go between their mansions in Calabasas, California.
Their homes are within walking distance.
'We want our kids to also feel really comfortable and they have both lived in their homes their whole lives for the most part, and they each have their rooms and we are a block away,' Kardashian explained on Dear Media's Not Skinny, Not Fat podcast.
Barker has son Landon, 19, daughter Alabama, 16, with ex Shanna Moakler.
And he parents former stepdaughter Atianna De La Hoya, 23 — whose parents are Moakler and her ex Oscar De La Hoya.
Kourtney has three kids Disick: son Mason, 12, daughter Penelope, 10, and son Reign, 7.
Kourtney and Disick aren't on the best of terms at the moment with Kardashian complaining earlier this year about how her 'toxic' ex stole a 'fairy tale moment' from her in the first season of The Kardashians.
'While shooting our show, we are all executive producers, so we get to see cuts of the show and give notes on episodes and make sure that our stories are being told. I am in one of the best places that I’ve ever been in my life, and it’s time for our show to catch up,' she said in a confession in an episode that aired in June.
'It’s enabling this old narrative and buying into something that just doesn’t really exist. It should be an empowering episode about me getting out of toxic relationships and really having this, like, fairy-tale love story that is my reality,' she added, referring to how Disick's storyline overshadowed her engagement.
