I’ve been a bit absent, life stuff, but I’ve been thinking about Gael. Funny enough, he’s one of my fav kiddos and one of the surprisingly complex ones. At first glance, he’s a fairly normal (albeit intellectually gifted) child in a family with a lot of issues.

His older brother Timothy has suffered great loss and needs all the support he can get. His twin brother is an empath and has always had issues with that. Especially when they were young. Fern had to have their parents constant attention to keep his ability under control.

And while Gael has never felt neglected, it’s easy for him to feel like the odd one out in the family.

He’s smart like Gary, but so is Tim- who just no longer has the will to apply it anymore. And genius is a double edged sword, there’s a lot of expectations that come with that title. People expect him to have answers when sometimes he really doesn’t. And he hates feeling like he has to live up to something beyond what he’s capable of.

And Tim is Gary’s favourite. Not in anyway that’s obvious or malicious, but Gary is fond and protective of Tim in a way that is different from all of them.

Fern is the most like their father, Drew. Who Gael is most definitely not like. He’s not creative or artsy in any way. And Drew is certainly closest to Fern than him and his other brothers.

And the youngest son and his little brother Tiago is the baby of the family. He already has their parents constant attention and devotion for that alone.

In a way, Gael is like the middle child of the family. Total middle kid syndrome.

Gael sometimes feels like he has to be the normal one. Tim is damaged, Fern is different and Tia is young. All three of his brothers, even without meaning to, have been the reason for lost sleep and their parent’s stress.

Gael feels like his parents deserve to have one child that isn’t a problem. Not that he sees his brothers as problems, but he knows how emotionally draining all his siblings issues can be, and though he’d never judge he understands how tired his parents can get.

This is something that he has honestly kept bottled up for a long time and at some point it does eventually come out, though I’m not entirely sure on those details yet.

But he feels like he has so many things to live up to.

3 Ships: I'll do Pokemon edition! Contestshipping is what I'm known for still, I think just because all my content for it here and my amvs on Youtube is easily accessible. I still love it a lot, but I always drift toward rarepairs as a way to flesh out my favorite characters :') so it went Respectshipping (Ash/Drew) and Arroganceshipping (Drew/Gary) after that lol

1st Ship: hmmm fun fact I guess before Contestshipping (where I learned what shipping was), the first pairing I liked as a kid was probably Ryou/Ichigo from Tokyo Mew Mew! I had a whole folder on the computer with animated icons and banners and things that I was probably using on pet sites lol (and even then I also liked the idea of Ryou/Zakuro since they were my favorites but was sad they had no content...I have been a rarepair shipper forever)

Last song: This song doesn't even have 50 views on youtube and I think 40 of them are me (it's just nice)

Last movie: Watched Nobody last night. It was good! Fun action movie. That's already my 5th movie for the year. I ended up watching around 75 films in 2022, so hitting 100 this year seems very doable lol

Currently consuming: Water... (Getting 64 ounces a day is HARD)

Currently watching: Oh geez. Watching some sitcoms with mom (Frasier and Mom (lol)), uhhh re-rewatching the Fruits Basket reboot with @gaycey-sketchit, watching the new Urusei Yatsura and Spectacular Spider-Man and (soon) the new Pokemon eps with friends, also watching The Boys with @djsockpuppet :^)

Currently reading: I don't read much but I'm gonna try more this year 😭 finished the American Psycho novel last month though. It sure was an experience. I went in thinking 'ha, how bad can the gore be, it's just a book' but I was very disturbed so! it sure is an experience to read, but I can't recommend it unless you're into that sdfj

Currently craving: Nothing, surprisingly. But I had my fave pizza for lunch so I am satiated :)

XD No, honestly though, we can call it “trueheartedhipping”, since Cliff is so loyal towards Go Rocket... I was gonna suggest “loyaltyshipping” or “devotionshipping” but seems like both these names are already used in the yu-gi-oh fandom that, for some reason, uses the same ridiculous ship name pattern that the Pokémon fandom... • While Gary loves Drew, he is SO curious as to what has happened to Drew so every once and while he’ll take a few samples of blood to study him.

• Gary having to fix Drew’s hair for him and it comes out looking BETTER THAN EVER, I mean, bc it’s Gary.

• Drew having MAJOR MOOD SWINGS in his change because that HAPPENS

• Drew hating being the little spoon at first but Gary is nice and warm so he /warms up/ to it and leeches warmth from Gary.

• Drew having an existential crisis on feeding because he still can’t control how much he drinks so Gary starts offering to give him blood when he needs it, Drew only takes enough to keep himself from getting cranky.

• Gary eventually helping Drew learn how to use his cool powers, and they start to get a stock up on blood from hospitals. (They freeze it and they’re HUMANE so they only get blood that’s close to being thrown out- because it’s still good.)

• Gary having to seek out a witch to get Drew a daylight ring so he doesn’t suffer in the night because Drew is a MORNING (mourning ha…. ha…) PERSON

"Oh, yeah." Drew held his hands up in front of his face. "Just an extra touch."

Gary couldn’t help but notice how, one, Drew was definitely blushing a bit behind his hands as he said that, and two, the emerald color of his nails matched his eyes and silky hair and made them look so damn radiant. "I like it," he replied softly. 

The nails, which at first were just an extra touch, became impossible to ignore on the teleprompter, when the cameras zoomed in on Drew holding Masquerain's Poké Ball and giving it a kiss (a habit likely learned from Gary himself). And when they sat down backstage to watch the other contestants battle, and Gary looked down at their interlocked hands as Drew's thumb brushed over his?

…It was a nice touch, for sure.

So when Gary found himself at the convenience store a month later buying a postcard for Samson's birthday, and a bottle of black nail polish caught his eye from one of the racks?

Well, he decided it might be cool to give it a try.

Hello again! Today let’s ponder this: do you have any ships you like? If so, talk about them! Why do they spark joy? If not totally cool, shipping isn’t for everyone! Alternate/bonus question- what’s your favorite friendship in Pokémon? I personally love Ash and Pikachu’s friendship, but also the main character and your partner in mystery dungeon games! Or, bonus question, two characters who have the funniest mutual hatred. 

Hi! Oh, I absolutely do. I love love and I'm a multishipper, so there's so many ships I like. To name a few of my favorites:

RespectShipping (Ash/Drew): my blog title was "The RespectShipping and Sickfic Guy" for like two years, and my old URL respectful-ramblings was also a reference to just how much I like this one. I got pulled into it by the fanworks, particularly the AMVs on YouTube! Like all my other rarepairs with little canon interaction, it's about the Potential. Their personalities pair together in an interesting way, I like the contrast of Ash's friendliness and open, earnest nature versus Drew being more aloof and putting on a facade a lot of the time. Plus the fact that Drew is the most traditionally romantic mofo and Ash is oblivious on that front. But at the same time, they're not without their similarities. It's also really nice aesthetically, I think. They look nice together.

I also have a lot of positive associations with it because I was hyperfixated on it when I met some of my closest friends and my life was generally taking a turn for the better after some really rough years.

OakShipping (Gary/Tracey): this one took hold of me pretty recently--I think early or mid 2021 was when I happened upon a fanfic that just. Did something to me. (The fanfic in question was Secrets Kept by MetalPrincess13 on FFNet, and I can literally pinpoint the exact moment in that fic that well and truly sold me on the ship.) And then roughly a year later I was doing Sicktember and most of my ideas were for them, and things just sort of snowballed and this is one of the ships I'm most known for being obsessed with now.

As for why I like it so much, I think it's again, about the potential and the contrast. There's a lot of opportunity for interactions beyond what's been shown onscreen since they literally live under the same roof (which makes getting them in the same place way less difficult for me than what I've been used to), and the way their personalities play off each other is fun. There's also a good range for what you can do with how their relationship progresses, from a very smooth friends-to-lovers transition to a situation where they're both well aware of how much is at risk if they pursue their feelings and things end badly, making it a really big deal when they both decide it's a risk they're willing to take.

ArroganceShipping (Drew/Gary): hands down my favorite nevermet, and I think a big part of why is because they're just so fun to write together. They're both so quick-witted the dialogue practically writes itself (the hard part is getting them to stop when I'm trying to end the fic) and I find it interesting how inverse to how the other ships I tend to gravitate towards have a "seem like polar opposites on a surface level, but are actually Not So Different" thing going on, they seem similar on a surface level but there's actually a lot of differences between them.

I’ve been in the Pokemon fandom for over 12 years...made AMVs, headcanons, shitposts and fanart...but now....fanfiction.

Parfait for Two:  It's not easy for an esteemed Pokémon Researcher and career Coordinator to find time to spend together. But sometimes the smallest moments mean the most.

It’s just a short oneshot about Drew and Gary but I really wanna thank my friends for pushing me to do it! I’ve always been hesitant to write out of fear or embarrassment maybe so...this was really great! I don’t think I’ll be pumping out fics left and right, but it’s nice to do Something for a favorite rare pair.

Also some accompanying art because why not!
