Hi,

I still think about this post I made anytime I see someone talk about Sephiroth Like That. It's still so weird to me, do people realize a character being designed to be hot doesn't automatically mean they're supposed to like… sex-y? With Kuja and Sephiroth I mean this as in their attractiveness is meant to be aesthetic more than sexual, it's like that shit Greta Gerwig was saying about Barbie to me.

I remember something that really struck me when I first played those two's respective games was the way their beauty was treated. I had never taken a game with bishounen characters seriously before, so there was a slight culture shock at how much aesthetic weight was put on them, especially combined with the angel motif in both their characters. Two interesting details about angels (archangels or guardian angels specifically) this brought up in my mind was 1) that traditionally these angels are meant to appear as incredibly attractive people, and 2) that they're traditionally portrayed as androgynous men. Which hey, they nailed those both on the head with their "One-Winged Angel" and "Angel of Death".

But with angels, that humanity and human attractiveness is kind of just a guise for a creature, ancient, divine, and terrifyingly powerful - sort of far beyond the actual functions of a human skin. So their attractiveness is not because they're sexy or sexual, but because its an aesthetic representation of that divinity - a way to make that appalling level of power more palatable and, attractive.

And I find that really fun and interesting, a lot in a gender way because, once again, angels traditionally being seen as masculine, and that sort of "sexy for no reason even if its a de-sexualized non-human being" is only ever an excuse for flaunting a feminine form and not a masculine. And I tell you boys, I am on my hands and knees scraping at the dirt everyday for representations of male beauty.

Which is why for Sephiroth and Kuja this was so striking to me. The way their designed beauty incidentally or purposefully invokes the beauty of angels is just so cool. They are characters not at all presented as having any sexuality of their own, but that It-Factor they got encompasses their character and how they are popularly perceived. Like what would Sephiroth be without his imposing form, long silky hair, and cat-like eyes? Or Kuja without his doll-like face and, well, everything else about him? But that beauty is not FOR us or the characters - it's attractive, even captivating, but venomous. Those mako eyes only hold emptiness, to then be set ablaze by an otherworldly, alien hatred; Kuja's lips only purse in a sadistic, callous grin before twisting into the tortured scowl of a disgraced angel willing to destroy creation out of spite.

And that cruel beauty is mesmerizing to players and a lot of what they're remembered for. Which once again was amazing to me cause they're guys and seeing men get that level of attention warms my cold bisexual heart, but also because MAN it ties in so well to their motifs. I straight up think you get less out of them by assuming that being designed to be hot and being a character with sexuality are synonymous. At least personally I am way more enamored with this dynamic of these beings made to catch our eyes (either narratively or meta-textually) in order to tease our senses and twist our hearts, as they move whole celestial bodies and crumble empires with a smile. I'm Just Obsessed.

Quick note: If you’re angelkin, please, for the love of everything holy, do NOT go into Doreen Virtue and Diana Cooper’s works. Please. If you’re trying to find information on angels, I suggest you go to more credible resources, and books about “angel magic” freely accessible to the public in Z Library, as well as ones on Enochian. You should also read about the other books that didn’t get into the bible, like the Book of Enoch, The Gospel of Mary, and The Acts of Paul and Thecla. I would also recommend you read about Dr. John Dee and the works revolving around him and his life, though most prominently, about his works and dealings surrounding the angels. Then, there’s Ronna Vezane, who speaks as Archangel Micheal has been “channeled” through her. Her works that revolve around the ‘teaching of Archangel Micheal’ are actually pretty good, though I don’t recommend buying the books about it, as the audiobook is free on Giving Voice to the Wisdom of Ages, which is a YouTube channel.

And if you want cool art, check out the Angelarium by Peter Mohrbacher. Very eldritch and lovecraftian-esque horror with a lot of spicy angels.

ESOTERICA and Giving Light to the Wisdom of the Ages are good YouTube channels to watch, if you’re interested about the workings of religion and mythology. If you’d like to see people break down Christianity to it’s core fundamentals and Christian beliefs, I suggest searching up “Genetically Modified Skeptic” for the odd shenanigans and a dive into the other side of the religious spectrum. There’s also Chabad.org who you can always trust with a few articles about angels and the Jewish belief about angels.

Hochelga on YouTube is also a great resource!

Putting my other two cents here is that while I am not Jewish, the teachings about angels in Jewish belief are absolutely wonderful, and there are a bunch of videos online that cover them. I listen to them more intently than the..er..Christians and the Catholics who’s main goal is for conversion.

Why not Doreen Virtue? Well, after making a fortune off angel oracle cards and tarot cards and books about angels, she stepped back, claimed they were all “demonic” and that the “angels” that showed up were demons in disguise, and is still actively profiting from the people who buy her old work. (Don’t.)

Why not Diana Cooper? Well..her thoughts about angels and all that aren’t all that bad (compared to Doreen, anyways.) but there is a tinge of ableism in her works, of autistic children being people who reincarnated with “heavy karma” and are supposedly paying the price for the past sins they’ve committed. While I can, to a reasonable extent, understand why she may think as such, but at the same time, that kind of thinking is very harmful, especially if you were to tell that to a child that their condition is a punishment from a higher being.

More Information I found about the Angel Symbolism in FF7 (Part 2):

I believe Zack Fair is an Angel in a traditional sense. An Angel is a being that becomes the bridge between Man and God, they have many responsibilities but the most important is the protection of the righteous.

- Zack's story has all of these aspects, he is the bridge between Shinra and the everyday person (his missions in crisis core being a prime example, and his most notable actions are in the protecting Cloud (a kid caught up in the cross fire).

Finally there Cloud Strife, who I believe without a doubt symbolizes as an Archangel (An Archangel is Leader of the regular angels within the Lord's heavenly Army). But I don't believe Cloud is just any Archangel I believe he is the Archangel Michael for two reasons, one Michael is prophesy to rise up at a time of great tribulation like the world has never seen, and two Micheal is the Angel who defeated Satan during his rebellion and cast him out to the Earth.

-Cloud the leader of the party, and he is the one at the end to rise above the circumstance & defeat Sephiroth during the Meteor Crisis.

Extra: Also many believe Satan or Lucifer was a Seraphim before his fall (fits Sephiroth's fall), and so Cloud being an Archangel is Poetic for their endless battle.

The Elohim

So one of the anons mention the Sephiroth. As far as I know, Sephiroth is 10 attributes of Kabbalah, a school of thought within Jewish mysticism, which started around the 10th century.

Each of the Sephira (singular form of the word Sephiroth) is associated with an archangel.

Sephiroth is considered good in Jewish mysticism and its evil counterpart is Qliphoth. Similarly, each of the Qliphah is associated with a demonic order, led by an Archdemon.

The 6th Sephira, Tiferet, is associated with Raphael. The Archdemon against it is Belphegor (just making an example of this from the ask of anon).

The last part, either the writers intended this or is just a coincidence that Belphie has somewhat a connection with Raphael. Like in Lesson 56-1

Now, since we haven't meant both Belphegor or Raphael in WHB. I would make a theory and that if they will be introduce later down the line of WHB. I think they'll have somewhat like a rivalry. That's my thoughts on this.

Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram (LRP)

A ceremonial magic ritual devised and used by the original order of the Golden Dawn that has become a mainstay in modern occultism. This ritual is considered by many to be a basic preliminary to any other magical work, so much that it was the only ritual, besides initiation rituals, taught to members of the Golden Dawn before they advanced to the Inner Order.

There are two forms of the ritual, the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP), and the Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram (LIRP). The banishing is believed as banishing any chaotic or impure forms of the elements from the magician's circle. The invoking ritual is believed to invoke pure forms of the elements. This is followed by an evocation of the Christian archangels ruling the elements to fortify and guard the circle.

Procedure:

The Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram consists of three major aspects.

Qabalistic Cross - Meant to construct and astral cross in the body of the practitioner, with points corresponding to sephiroth of the Tree of Life. While constructing the cross, the magician chants the Hebrew words Ateh, Malkuth, Ve-Geburah, Ve-Gedulah, Le-Olahm, Amen, while pointing to the forehead, feet, right shoulder, left shoulder, and heart respectively.

Formulation of the Pentagrams -  Beginning in the east, a banishing earth pentagram (or invoking pentagram for the invoking ritual) usually visualized as being in blue light/fire, is drawn in the air at each of the four cardinal points and an associated name of God is chanted (YHVH/East, Adonai/South, Eheieh/West, and AGLA/North). This aspect of the ritual is meant to banish or invoke the four elements. The pentagrams are connected by a circle, also drawn in the air by the practitioner’s Athame, and which is completed by returning from the North point to the East.

Evocation of the Archangels - The practitioner stands in the form of a cross and evokes the presence of archangels. They are visualized at the four cardinal points: Raphael (East), Gabriel (West), Michael (South), and Uriel (North). The practitioner stands with their feet shoulder-width apart, and states “for about me flames the pentagram, and within me shines the six-rayed star.” 

The Qabalistic Cross is repeated.

Take a steel dagger in the right hand. Face East. Touch thy forehead and say ATEH (thou art) Touch thy breast and say MALKUTH (the Kingdom) Touch thy right shoulder and say VE-GEBURAH (and the Power) Touch thy left shoulder and say VE-GEDULAH (and the Glory) Clasp thy hands before thee and say LE-OLAM (for ever) Dagger between fingers, point up and say AMEN. Make in the Air toward the East the invoking PENTAGRAM as shown and, bringing the point of the dagger to the center of the Pentagram, vibrate the DEITY NAME--YOD HE VAU HE--imagining that your voice carries forward to the East of the Universe. Holding the dagger out before you, go to the South, make the Pentagram and vibrate similarly the deity name--ADONAI. Go to the West, make the Pentagram and vibrate EHEIEH. Go to the North, make the Pentagram and vibrate AGLA. Return to the East and complete your circle by bringing the dagger point to the centre of the first Pentagram. Stand with arms outstretched in the form of a cross and say: BEFORE ME RAPHAEL BEHIND ME GABRIEL AT MY RIGHT HAND MICHAEL AT MY LEFT HAND AURIEL BEFORE ME FLAMES THE PENTAGRAM BEHIND ME SHINES THE SIX-RAYED STAR Again make the Qabalistic Cross as directed above, saying ATEH, etc. For Banishing use the same Ritual, but reversing the direction of the lines of the Pentagram.

As a form of prayer the invoking ritual should be used in the morning the banishing in the evening. The NAMES should be pronounced inwardly in the breath vibrating it as much as possible and feeling that the whole body throbs with the sound and sends out a wave of vibration directed to the ends of the quarter. 2. As a protection against impure magnetism, the Banishing Ritual can be used to get rid of obsessing or disturbing thoughts. Give a mental image to your obsession and imagine it formulated before you. Hey there! I'm really interested in Bianca's character. Can you shed some light on how she views Safer-Sephiroth and Bizarro-Sephiroth?

Hello, Nonny. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Thank you for your ask and your interest in my OC, Bianca Moore. She is by far the most ambitious fandom OC I have, as she spans multiple fandoms. It's hard to believe I introduced her last June.

Bianca wouldn't even blink at those transformations. She would accept Rebirth/Bizarro∙Sephiroth and Safer∙Sephiroth as she is bound to him in any of his forms through a red string of fate that connected them through their alternate versions of Earth.

As the daughter of the demon that will become Asmodeus and the Archangel Seraphine, Bianca is an amalgamation between light and dark: angel and demon. She is a being that is forced to walk between two world as well as have her blood warring with itself.

Bianca has seen some pretty strange monstrous forms outside of those two forms of Sephiroth. Before she was sent from her world to Sephiroth and the surrender to his madness, she literally went inside the body of a demonic spider with a group of her friends, adoptive daughter, and husband to stop his malevolence from spreading through Feudal Japan.

The angels and fallen angels in Fantasy Worlds Collide are based on biblical descriptions, as well as pop culture representations of Seraphim. In the celestial realm, there is the angelic race called the Seraphim that are all eyes and six wings. They each have several eyes on their red wings. These angels have a pair of wings for flying, another covering their face, and finally their feet.

When Bianca sees him as Safer∙Sephiroth, she just sees a representation of an angel, like the Seraphim that exists in the Celestial Realm and not as grotesque as those angelic beings that exist on her mother's home world.

When he is in these forms, Bianca and he are not physically intimate. In fact, they haven't touched in the waking world since that initial time before the Nibelheim Incident. She perches herself beside him in either of those forms. As Sephiroth loved it when she sang to him during that initial time they were together before the Nibelheim Incident, she will sing some of her version of Earth's songs. She likes to sing the following songs:

All for Love - Bryan Adams, Rod Steward, and Sting

Without You - Mariah Carey (referencing the Nibelheim Incident and their five year separation)

The Power of Love - Céline Dion

Another thing that she likes to do that doesn't involve sexual intimacy is reading a book out loud together. She reads some of his favorite books before the madness took him.

As Bianca was a romance author on her version of Earth, she loves to write and share short stories and poems with these forms of Sephiroth. Another thing that they like to do is debate philosophy ideas.
