How is Blackwell even a school?
Blackwell is insanely weird.
It has dorms but also lockers.
A barely functioning staff. We have two teachers, a principal, a custodian and a head of security. There is Mrs Hoida, but we never see her in LIS or BTS. Mr Keaton exists in BTS, but we never hear about him in LIS. There’s a nurse, but we never see her. There’s a coach for the Otters and Bigfoots, but neither Max nor Chloe are athletic, so we never see them. According to Chloe’s report card. There is an Art teacher, Phy Ed teacher, Practical Math and Life Skills Teacher, Social Sciences teacher and Personal Health Teacher. But we never see any of them.
Only two whole classrooms in the whole game.
It’s apparently the only school the town has and also is a super expensive exclusive private school.
It’s a high school that recruits world renowned artists and scientists to teach basic high school level classes.
It’s graduates supposedly go on to become famous successful people yet the school itself resides in a tiny rundown coastal Oregon town.
It costs a fortune to attend and yet it looks like it hasn’t been seriously repaired or renovated since the 1970’s.
Hell it doesn’t even have security cameras on campus.
According to google
"According to a student survey from the National Center for Education Statistics, 86 percent of middle school and high school students have security cameras installed in their schools."
Despite David being an asshole, it's standard procedure to have cameras up in the first place. David is wrong to put cameras in his home to spy on Chloe, but not wrong to have cameras in the school. If there were cameras already placed in Blackwell.
Frank Bowers would never be able to sell on school grounds
Frank never would've been close to Rachel
Nathan never would've gotten away with bringing so many illegal drugs to the Vortex Club
Kate never would've been dosed
Speaking of David. Why is he just a security officer? Why isn't he a cop? Wouldn't it make sense for David to work two jobs since the Prices are in debt? As a cop and as a security officer? The most unrealistic thing about LIS. David was too unstable to be a Arcadia Bay cop. The police have no standards and I'm shocked that David wasn't an instant recruit considering how the police in America wants people with low IQs and doesn’t care for obvious red flags.
Also, School Resource Officers exist.
Then there is the fact that Max…BARELY uses the school of her dreams. We get one or two classes at best. Going to Ms Grant’s class does not count cause Max only went there to help Warren.
Chloe not using Blackwell makes sense. She hates the damn place and would rather learn about Rachel’s anatomy break the rules and chill in the junkyard.
But with Max, shouldn’t she actually be attending classes? I mean if I were attending a big private school at Blackwell, but didn’t attend classes. I think my ass would’ve been suspended within weeks and my tuition set on fire.
What kind of school, a HIGH school lets their students freely roam the halls, leave school grounds or chill in the dorms instead of doing class work?
For that matter. Why the fuck is Blackwell Academy a fucking High School? Why not a college? Art Colleges exists. I'd rather Blackwell be a college and for everyone to be of age, it'd explain a lot of stuff such as the drugs, parties, guns, and just a lot of stuff. Not to mention going through college you are still figuring out stuff, what you want to do with your life, and still figuring out who you are. Would've imo a lot better and explained why half the shit that was happening was.
I get this is an episodic game and there are more pressing concerns, but honestly Blackwell should’ve been like say Bully. We do the day’s worth of classes and then progress to the story. Hell, you could even implement a sort of friendship system. Maybe you pick who you sit next to and that raises Max’s friendship with them. Anything would’ve been better than Max skipping school altogether and just focusing on Chloe. Like we have an entire school, we should not have our focus be on Chloe. There could’ve been ways to work classes into the main story, but no. Blackwell is just background noise and it shows.
But the lack of a full faculty staff or an actual care that anyone actually attends class? What kind of fucking school is this?

The Suspect (1944)
"Don't you think that an innocent man might be more tolerant in the cause of justice?"
"No, I don't. I think an innocent man might behave precisely as I have."
"Well, I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you."
"Why don't you arrest me? Here I am."
"I'd like to, believe me, but unfortunately I can't."
"No, you've run against a blank wall. You take my advice and don't beat your head against it."

Dreamcatcher Chptr. 22
It had been a strenuous few days in Rachel's absence regarding Clark's academic performance and perfect attendance record.
Given that he was not permitted to take time off school to look after his beloved girlfriend, Clark put up with their absence but with determination to endure their separation and focus on himself and his family. Clark couldn't screw up his chances now. But even while he had some struggles at school, it was through the kindness of both Chloe and his best mate, Mick, that Clark could visit Rachel regularly both before and after school.
It truly meant a lot to Rachel to see people who still cared about her, much less from the people who stated this via cards. Still, it was an effort to say the least.
Regardless of that, Clark had been doing quite well in his classes - far better compared to his juvenile sibling - much to the approval of his mother and ironically to her boyfriend. Slowly but surely, he was making improvements domestically as well. People commented about him dying his hair - a large mixture of both positive and negative reactions to his new hair colour where some negative reviews sourced from the staff most of all, excluding the current security guard, Skip, who seemed to admire Clark's courage for taking up his rebellious side. Nonetheless, people slowly adjusted to his new style by saying little to nothing about his appearance.
It was a rather good start to that Wednesday morning at Blackwell. Students found it to be remarkably less chilly than the past weeks of the winter solstice. With his and his sister's birthday just around the corner, it brought morbid thoughts regarding the absence of a father. But he would never accept David as one, even if he and his mother got married.
Clark was in the middle of his biology class dissecting a frog. Most of the people in his class weren't all that interested, some even disgusted by it that they even refused to participate. Those who did had the stomach to rummage around the dead creature's insides.
By following the instructions given, Clark examined body parts of the frog and scribbled notes on the piece of paper provided about the lesson's topic.
"This is so gross." Clark mumbled under his breath.
"Kinda cool. In a... weird sort of way," agreed his biology partner.
This comment earned a confused stare from Clark who found no reason in enjoying a frog's dissecting. Having to look at its insides, put up with the retched smell and poke around at anything that shouldn't be seen outside of a body.
"How can you enjoy this? This is putrid!"
"Hey. I said I weirdly like it. Not 'enjoy tearing open a dead carcass and write all the things I do and don't know about what belongs inside it's body.' "
"I hope this isn't you secretly coming out as a serial killer, Chloe."
"Careful, or I'll dissect you next!"
Clark rolled his eyes at his sister while she continued to mess around, all the while her brother did most of the work, practically all of it. It came as little surprise that the two would be paired together.
Despite what they've been through, their relationship was still anything but sturdy. The nuisance that his sister was had no full regard for her education, so every waking minute at Blackwell made Chloe want nothing more than to burn it to the ground.
It was a nice thought, at least.
Halfway though the lesson did Chloe seek a proper distraction from dissecting. Their teacher was at the front of the class, scribbling on the whiteboard for their next class. Chloe got up out of her seat and began to wander around the classroom, collecting ingredients for her little plan. She blatantly ignored her brother calling for her as the devious brunette constantly looked over her shoulder to see where her teacher was looking to see if she could still carry out her plan in time.
Given that her and Clark's desk was on the far left side of the room, so there was no way Clark could distract his teacher, even if he wanted to. Clark struggled to stay focused on his work while his sister did only God knew what. Whatever it was, it wasn't going to end well...
Once Chloe had all she needed to conduct her own experiment, she snuck over to the teacher's desk. By that time, Chloe had managed to perplex the entire class with what she was doing before the brunette planted whatever she'd crafted underneath her teacher's desk and quickly scampered back over to her and Clark's desk to await the outcome. Half of the class slouched in their seats or hid behind their desks, using it as cover when Chloe's crafted item went off with a loud bang.
Loud rapid pops erupted underneath the teacher's desk, causing not only the teacher but others to jump in fright. There was a tinge of smoke from the miniature explosions which dispersed around the entire desk and towards the teacher, who had fallen to the ground amidst the chaos.
As it turned out, Chloe Price created firecrackers using only lab equipment as her prank.
When the popping stopped and there was a calm after the panic, the teacher popped up from behind the desk. Their face was clearly riddled with mixed feelings of confusion and hysteria due to what took place. They stood firmly on their feet, straight as as statue but with a mad look that could kill someone with one blow of their tongue.
And blow their tongue they would.
"WHO! WAS! RESPONSIBLE?!" The teacher shrieked, taking loud gasps for air after each interval. Even saying it aloud, the teacher had a good idea as to who the culprit was.
The teacher's face went beet red from anger at the disruption of the lesson as well as being near scared to death by the seemingly harmless prank. In spite of the situation at hand, a very rare few managed to find humour behind the outrage - one of whom being Chloe herself, the perpetrator.
"I want everyone to understand that this 'practical joke' is not - even in the slightest - hilarious! The consequences are now dire: whosoever comes forth now will face detention. If you prolong, it will be expulsion! Jokes like this are not permitted in my classes, nor around the rest of the school. So? Who's ready to come forward?" The teacher scowled menacingly as their eyes darted across each individual student in the classroom.
Dead silence was emitted throughout the science lab. Nobody had the audacity to rat out on Chloe Price out of fear for being labelled a tattle-tail and an untrustworthy individual, as well as risking expulsion or a detention they couldn't afford to waste time on. It disappointed the teacher all the more that nobody had dared to come forward.
The Price twins stole subtle glances at one another, almost sharing a telepathic link of what either intended to do. Even their body language read clearly that one or the other planned to beat the other and come forward to take the blame.
"It was-"
"I did it."
"Chloe?!" Clark whispered loudly.
The brunette stood up out of her seat, meeting her teacher's harsh stare. Everyone in the room turned to look at Chloe judgementally while the brunette stood in her place awfully calm and cool while her brother, on the other hand, stressed about keeping her education secure with little regard for his own.
"So... it was you, Miss Price. I should've known..." The teacher commented resentfully.
Now the teacher could understand why her gut feeling drew towards Chloe. All of the drama and misconduct around Blackwell shared a major hold by the young punk-rock enthusiast who was on the brink of flipping the bird to Blackwell Academy.
In reaction to Chloe's admission, the teacher began to lecture and ridicule Chloe with every hateful fibre in their being which was also stoked by the adrenaline from their being startled by the makeshift firecrackers.
"... countless times I've tried to encourage you to do better in your classes, but this only proves that my support has been in vain and my words - inclusively other staff members, such as Principal Wells himself - have fallen on deaf ears. Unless you've been out partying and drinking and doing drugs, then that must also explain why your attention span is as blunt as a musket ball, you little..."
Out of pure boredom and impatience, Chloe zoned out of the monologue and entered the domain of her inner thoughts in order to make time pass by faster.
"God. When do they ever shut up? I can't believe it worked out so well. If only they saw their face. Priceless. No pun intended, of course. The old bird really needs to shut up or get straight to the point. I feel like my head's about to explode. Shoot me now, bro. Shoot me please! Better yet, expel me already. Oh wait. Shit. That means I have to go and see Wells, don't I? Shiiiiit..." Chloe rambled inside her mind.
"Are you even listening to me, Chloe Price?! I want you to pack your things and GET OUT OF MY CLASS! GO TO MR WELLS' OFFICE THIS INSTANT, YOUNG LADY! DO YOU HEAR ME?! I WANT YOU OUT OF HERE THIS MINUTE!!"
Chloe rolled her eyes and stole a glance at her brother seated next to her before she dragged her feet along the black and white-pattered tiled floor on her way out of the class. The teacher kept their eyes focused on Chloe so fiercely that they practically bore holes inside of her skull from how furious they were. Even with all of the anger and verbal abuse they could throw her way, Chloe Price would not give a single fuck.
As soon as her presence was absent from the lab, the teacher calmed down and gave a firm order towards the rest of the students in the class to resume their work for the remainder of the lesson. Meanwhile, Chloe reluctantly did as she was told and made her way towards the principal's office.
The only thing she could think that could help her endure another lecture. The things about Wells' office left a horrid imprint in her mind about the layout of the office as well as the 'fond' memories she had having meetings with the bald, middle-aged man.
Chloe's body moved on its own, taking her straight to Wells' office. Standing in front of the fine, oak door, Chloe raised her hand up and clenched her fist loosely before knocking on the door to announce herself upon entering the room. Inside said room, Raymond Wells sat at his desk, reviewing reports and important letters when his attention was stolen, brought onto the brunette standing at his door. The second his eyes identified who was at his door, his face tightened instinctively, knowing that no matter the reason, Chloe was not there with good intentions.
Calmly, Raymond Wells put his pen down and rested his elbows on his table with his fingers interlocked when he greeted Chloe.
"Chloe Price. I would be lying if I said that seeing you here was a surprise, but in correlation to your academic behaviour, I wouldn't be in the least surprised if you were her as a result of another classroom incident in your biology class." Raymond acknowledged the rebel crossly.
His demeanour always carried a cold, unsettling tone of dissatisfaction by her lack of effort into making something of herself, in which he always had to talk down to her in hopes of getting his message through to her of the importance in her completing her education.
"Right again, Mr Wells. Ten points to Gryffindor." Chloe replied, sounding snarky and in a deep, masculine voice to nobody's humour but her own.
The smile that briefly appeared on her face was dropped when she realised that his barren complexion was unwavered.
"And what, pray tell, are the circumstances of your visiting me this time, Miss Price?"
Awkwardly, Chloe raised a hand up to scratch the back of her head as her eyes darted across the room.
"Umm... well... I might've made some firecrackers and set them off under the teacher's desk."
"And how did you come about this foul prank of yours?"
Chloe shrugged her shoulders and said, "Because I was bored. Duh."
"And that gives you valid reason to disrupt your class and potentially endanger both your teacher and your students with a contraption you designed in a biology class? May I remind you that you are on your final straw with myself and Blackwell. And your behaviour has cut this rope down to its final thread. Are you prepared to terminate your position here at Blackwell, Miss Price? Have you nothing to defend yourself with? Total and utter silence?"
Chloe had nothing to say. She had nothing to say because she didn't care. Because she didn't give a damn about whether she stayed at Blackwell or not. All she needed was freedom and peace of mind.
"Well, in that case, I wish to hold a meeting with your mother later this afternoon where we will discuss the termination of your school contract. I will see you soon, Miss Price. That will be all." Mr Wells stated nonchalantly.
In response to this, Chloe huffed upsettingly as she folded her arms across her chest. Without another second to waste, Chloe turned on her heels and rushed out of the office. Chloe took a hot right turn out of the office and headed straight for the girls' bathroom to get some privacy.
Chloe burst into the girls' bathroom with enough force with enough force that the door could've been knocked off its hinges. The only thoughts that processed through Chloe's mind was to graffiti the room in order to vent her anger. Reaching into her back pocket, Chloe produced a pen and started to graffiti the bathroom, starting with the mirrors.
'Insubordinate' - Wells
It wasn't going to stop there.
Using every negative thought imprinted on her mind from her life at Blackwell and the people living in it, Chloe thrashed about, styling things to perfection: every floor, every wall, every stall and every mirror. The finishing touch concluded with the mirrors once more, but with a large raven imprinted over some of Chloe's work. Now that she was done releasing her anger, Chloe began to calm down.
By walking out of the bathroom, she so happened to come across Victoria Chase. The blonde paid no mind to the brunette who walked out of the bathroom, appearing smug. Victoria opened the bathroom door and motioned to enter when she was mortified by the state of the girls' lavatory.
Seeing it in this state left Victoria appalled that Chloe could walk off in belief that she'd get away with the felony. Ultimately, it didn't matter whether she told on her or not because Chloe was done with Blackwell a long time ago.

Thousands of Ukrainian children put through Russian ‘re-education’ camps
Tumblr media
New report details network of dozens of Russian camps aimed at giving children pro-Moscow views, with some children detained indefinitely
At least 6,000 children from Ukraine have attended Russian “re-education” camps in the past year, with several hundred held there for weeks or months beyond their scheduled return date, according to a new report published in the US.
Russia has also unnecessarily expedited the adoption and fostering of children from Ukraine in what could constitute a war crime, the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab report found. The report was funded by the US state department.
Since the start of the war nearly a year ago, children as young as four months living in the occupied areas have been taken to 43 camps across Russia, including in Moscow-annexed Crimea and Siberia, for “pro-Russia patriotic and military-related education”, said the report.
In at least two of the camps, the children’s return date was delayed by weeks, while at two other camps, the return of some children was postponed indefinitely.
Russian authorities sought to provide a pro-Moscow viewpoint to children through school curricula as well as through field trips to patriotic sites and talks from veterans, the report found.
Videos published from the camps by the occupying regional authorities show children in the camps singing the Russian national anthem and carrying the Russian flag. In separate videos, teachers, employed to teach the children, talk about the need to correct their understanding of Russian and Soviet history.
Children were also given training in firearms, although Nathaniel Raymond, a Yale researcher who oversaw the report, said there was no evidence they were being sent back to fight.
“Mounting evidence of Russia’s actions lays bare the Kremlin’s aims to deny and suppress Ukraine’s identity, history, and culture,” the US state department said in a statement. “The devastating impacts of Putin’s war on Ukraine’s children will be felt for generations.”
There is little information on the explanation given to children regarding delays in their return. An official at the Medvezhonok camp told a boy from Ukraine that his return was conditional: the children would be returned only if Russia recaptured the town of Izium, the report said. Another boy was told he wouldn’t be returning home due to his “pro-Ukrainian views”, the report said.
Some parents were told that their children will be released only if they physically come to pick them up. Relatives or people given power of attorney were not allowed to pick up the children. Travel from Ukraine to Russia is difficult and expensive, and men between the ages of 18 and 60 are forbidden from leaving the country, in effect meaning only the mothers of the children may retrieve them.
“A significant portion of these families are low-income and have not been able to afford to make the trip. Some families were forced to sell belongings and travel through four countries to be reunited with their child,” the report found.
One of the camps is located in Magadan oblast, roughly 6,230km (3,900 miles) from Ukraine. This puts it “roughly three times closer to the United States than it is to the border of Ukraine,” the report said.
Raymond said that Russia was in “clear violation” of the Fourth Geneva Convention on the treatment of civilians during war and called the report a “gigantic Amber alert” – referring to US public notices of child abductions.
The Russian activity “in some cases may constitute a war crime and a crime against humanity”, he told reporters.
Ukraine’s government recently claimed that more than 14,700 children had been deported to Russia, where some had been sexually exploited.
