Remember that Highschool Bully AU I was talking about? Well here’s what i wanna do:

Scraping the idea of Julie running a hate blog online, changing it! She’s head cheerleader lol! She pretends to be nice to the teachers and such, but to the other *students shes vile!! Shes like two different people depending on if a teacher is present.

Frank is also a suck up to the teachers. He’s the best student in every class, top in grades and everything!! >:D! He’s the president of the photography club, which gives him an excuse to carry a camera everywhere. He uses it to snap embarrassing photos of people and get them into the newspaper, speaking of!

Eddie runs the newspaper club! He also pretends to be a sweetheart the teachers, but also posts the embarrassing photos of people in the paper and rumors n such >:3c he and Frank work together to make ppls life miserable, couple goals

Sally is the president of the Drama club! She’s incredibly authoritative and has an absolute power trip every day in the club. If she doesnt like you, you’re not getting a good role. If you have a good role, cherish it! The second you say something against Sally or any of her friends, shes recasting you. She regularly gives people embarrassing and unnecessary roles just to humiliate them. Like a tree or… grass lmao

Howdy is the mythic bitch here, the scariest guy >:D he’s the tallest strongest guy yknow, a jock! Star player! Bc yknow.. 8 feet tall and 4 arms. Bc hes so big and scary n such he regularly steals from ppl and they cant really do anything about it. He jsut picks people up and throws them, grabs backpacks and kicks people out of them, throws ppl in trash cans and locks them in like everything. Hes mean as fuck.

Barnaby is also on the.. sports team.. but hes not as good as Howdy. Hes a jokester but his jokes are always at the expense of others and normally goes too far. He doenst shake ppl up as much as Howdy does, but he watches and laughs, and Frank records sometimes

Remember when I said I scrapped Julies hate blog? I actually gave it to Poppy! She’s too shy to be mean in real life, and instead hides behind a screen. Her blog is called “Ann Onumouys” (pronounced anonymous lol). Pretty much everyone knows its her, but the teachers turn a blind eye… >.>

Now.. Wally. Wally is pretty much the same lil guy :3 he still hangs out with them all, and theyre all genuinely friends! Hes like their little nice mascot! He doesnt understand that they bully ppl- hes also the reason they dont get in trouble.

Home is the principal and also Wallys guardian! Home is fully aware that Wallys friends bully others, but he will not expel or suspend or anything, bc his friends keep him calm and happy. So he just.. turns a blind eye so that they continue to make Wally happy.

Sometimes he’ll sit on your lap and just start spouting facts about insects and butterflies, all with a slight lisp and everything

Knows a bunch of big boy words, but has trouble pronouncing it so he needs your help

Eddie it’s obv his main cg, but he’s also got Julie, Howdy, and Poppy

And Barnaby if he’s tiny enough

Doesn’t have many plushies but he does have a stuffed beetle named Skipper, he’s his best friend

He can go from baby to dad in an instant, he’s that quick to go big again

Has a pretty wide range of age when it comes to regressing, but usually stays in 1-4 yrs

Completely mute when he’s small, he’s either suckin on his paci or his thumb the entire time

Follows his cg like a baby duckling while little, sometimes holding their hand

It’s actually pretty easy to tell when he needs to go small; not talking as much, constantly following someone, probably fumbling with his hands, a lot more shy too

Frank takes care of him ofc, he’s the best dad

Frank would fuss over him a LOT, constantly checking for bruises and stuff, making sure he’s not sick

And he’s just sitting there like 👶

It’s really easy to forget tho; he’ll say just about nothing the whole day, then you tuck him into bed and when you’re leaving you just hear him start crying and being all “hellpppp, don’t goooooo”

I like to think that Frank is surprisingly strong for how lanky he is so he can carry is baby husband with little to no struggle

Honestly would be such a good dad figure, he’s got four arms to carry four kids!

Would give silly lil nicknames for all the kiddos on the block; buddy, lil man, lil miss, sweetie, pumpkin, etc.

May not be the brightest caregiver but boy is he the sweetest

Would probably accidentally leave one of the kiddos on his back bc he’s got his hands full with the others, so they’re just hanging out behind him

The absolute best at pretend, he’s got stories and character roles all up his sleeves

Frank like to pretend that Howdy is turning into a butterfly, so he pretends he stays in a lil blanket cocoon and then emerges with these plastic butterfly wings on his back

It sends Frank into a frenzy every single time

If someone accidentally goes small at his Bugdega, he’ll drop everything and take them into the nearest bathroom so they can calm down and go small properly

He’ll also sneak a free treat in their pocket if they’re good, only if you’re good

Punishments are hard to give bc he’s pretty easily swayed, so he’ll probably just give you a slap on the wrist and scold you before sending you on your way

He loves his kids and he wants the best for them, he can’t stand to see them upset

Poppy 🐔

This one is the hardest to figure out bc there isn’t much to know about her, but I’ll do my best

Also a default caregiver like Howdy, they are the ultimate parent duo

Always fussing over her kiddos, she’s got bandaids and Pepto Bismol in every corner of her house

She can be a bit stern when it comes to punishment, but she isn’t downright strict or mean

All she wants is for you to be careful

Her drawers are STACKED with toys, blankets, pacis, outfits, nappys, etc.

She always prepared when something is needed

She is the absolute best baker too; you’ll come to her house and it smells like freshly baked cookies

You can come into her kitchen to find a light snack, she’ll notice and make a whole meal

She’s also a lovely singer, so she’s perfect for lullabies

I like to imagine that if the kids are staying over at her house, they like to cuddle with her bc she’s a big ol bird

Matt runs for his life and this brought to light what Stick once said the weak will succumb in the sandstorm of this dying land, Matt sees that the storm is approaching and Matt says

He has cloud pants and earrings to represent the steam/smoke coming out a chimney :)))

Wally (or Walls) has a spiral staircase encasing him to represent his spiral pompadour.

Chimera Princess:

The following bullet points are what parts the other neighbors have given "Wally" to have. -Home: Blue Curtain Fabric (seen on Howdy's finger" -Howdy: Set of Arms and Pants -Frank: Cheeks, Bow Tie, and Dress Shirt -Barnaby: Hat and Vest Detailing -Poppy: Shawl is used as Vest, Feather on Barnaby's Hat -Julie: Horns and Tail. Wally's ears were also stitched to resemble hers. (In my design for her, anyways) -Eddie: Face Skin and Thread -Sally: Earrings and Eye.

The Au is called Chimera Princess as Mera carries the weight of his friends wishes and dreams on his head like a crown. Chimera came from the fact that Mera is a cruel mashed together version of every neighbor.

The au would've been called Chimera King/Prince but Princess sounds cooler lol

Mera is not evil, just sad and haunted by the 'ghosts' of his friends.

Fallen Home:

This Wally isn't actually cruel. He's relatively the same as normal Wally: he's just more aware of others people's emotions.

Mission Report: May 26, 20XX

Mission Completed: Young Justice Mission XXX

Summary: Today we learned a lot about Kryptonian history and culture. It turned out that Kon had almost no knowledge of his people, and me and Bart set out to rectify that. Yay!! We’re all trying to learn Kryptonian now, even Cassie, who is a great 4th-wheel friend. 

Notes: Kryptonian is really hard to learn. Like, I’ve been studying it since we downloaded the information by plugging the drive into the Batcomputer, and not only are the words really hard to pronounce, but I also can’t seem to remember the letter system well. I am also constantly bombarded by the fact that Dick walked up behind me, asked for a basic explanation, and then was able to read the sentence I had been struggling over for half an hour out loud perfectly. Stupid brother and his stupid knack for languages. 

Notes For B: Today we broke into the fortress of solitude to use Superman’s computer to do research on Kryptonian culture. If Superman notices someone broke in, that was us. Please don’t let him kill us. 

Report: I was today years old when I found out that no one has ever told Kon anything about his Kryptonian heritage. This is not really a surprise because who would have told him? But Bart and I decided that that just would not do. We decided to not only help Kon learn about Kryptonian culture, but to dedicate ourselves to learning it as well. 

We quickly hit a snag however when we realised that the only place to go to learn anything about Krypton was the fortress of solitude, and Superman definitely wasn’t going to let us in. Of course, I decided to pull a lego-Batman and just break in. Let me tell you, compared to like every other superhero base, the fortress has like zero security. It’s honestly sad . We got in, hacked Clark’s computer, and got out with very little difficulty. Like, I get that we’re three superpowered kids and one Bat, but still. B, your pal needs to upgrade his fucking security. 

We got the info and headed back to the mountain to read up on it. Did you know that all marriages on Krypton were arranged? Also, Krytonians don’t have soulmates, which none of us were aware of, so the fact that Kon has a soulmark is completely from his human DNA through Lex. We also discovered that Superman’s peaceful attitude would make him stick out like a sore thumb on the war-based planet. 

I also finally got to read the legend of Nightwing and Flamebird that Dick and Wally named themselves after. Of course, only the English translation, but once I actually learn Kryptonian it will be the first thing I read in the original language. 

It was super great to see how happy it made Kon getting to learn about his culture and people, and even if Superman is mad, well, fuck him for not teaching Kon about this stuff.

Hello! I’m new to this blog (and the entire Welcome Home fandom in general), so I apologize if this has been asked before. What did you think about the toy phone audio? Doesn’t have to necessarily be theory-based, I just personally found it chilling!

i think it's a very good proof of concept... Potent, even. i don't have much in the way of solid theorizing, since this audio is from mid-development, but some assorted thoughts i have:

i would love to see a remake of this with the full roster of characters we have now, although i understand getting the voice cast to do so may take a while, even with clown voicing multiple characters himself. still. i want to hear howdy and eddie doing their best customer service voices. and also sally just Being Sally.

i mentioned in a previous post that initially, common consensus seemed to be that the audience was wally's Number One Priority, but that the january 14th update calls this into question. i feel like this audio was Very instrumental in creating that initial impression, although it may have also just been a case of confirmation bias; before this audio was reuploaded, i knew maybe 3 separate people who just had it on hand so they could listen to wally.

i think i actually prefer wally's voice in this demo over how he sounds in singingmp4? it's not a huge difference, but his voice in the demo is both slightly deeper and less "full" than it is in singingmp4, which i think is more in-line with his vocal inspirations like teddy ruxpin and mark baker's raggedy andy. it also sounds like a bitch to do though if your voice isn't already in that register so i understand why it's less Pronounced in singingmp4.

Hello! I hope this ask isn’t annoying but Swiss person here with fam from the same region as Nico!

To elaborate on some things a prev ask said: Nico is from Brig which is still part of the (Swiss) German part of Wallis/Valais, but as soon as you go a bit further west (Sion + Sierre) they speak French, so Hisch’s two languages would be Swiss German + French! Technically speaking Swiss people also have to learn German because there’s not actually a standardized spelling for Swiss German because each canton has their own dialect, so we learn German + a second language (mostly French unless it’s like Graubünden that tends towards Italian) on top of Swiss German, kind of.

Walliser (Swiss) German IS! Notoriously difficult for non-wallis people to understand. It’s very melodic and borrows a lot from French, and just kind of pronounces things differently than anyone else? It’s kinda hard to explain, but I think it’s very nice to listen to, it’s very musical. You can always come and speak with me about our Swiss German babies. I love the insight into the different dialects and styles and the educational background. It's so different than my experiences here in the U.S.! I wish we were pushed to learn other languages, but the education system, where I am from at least, didn't. It isn't until your later teen years that they encourage you to dive into other languages, which we all know is entirely too late for it to stick.

DRAGON AGE OCs:

Lanil (Surana) Lavellan: My girl. My Bae. My scrumpdiddlyumptious. Her name has zero meaning. Literally played around with letters and vowels until something cool happened. However, she has nicknames! 'Lane' is just short for Lanil, easypeasy. Varric calls her 'Shortie', which annoys the shit out of her. She knows she's short, she's FINE with it (she's not fine with it), but the GALL of this dwarf to call her short!! 🤣 Her nickname from the Chargers in my FIIF AU is 'Brusier', because she's a teenytiny ball of RAGE. Krem made a joke about her being a 'bruiser', and the nickname stuck.

Aleandria Cousland-Theirin: Okay, so this has a story. My irl name is Alexandria Denys, and I currently live in China. Their automated systems, like banks and hospitals, etc, HATE long foreign names. It's a pain in the butt to do anything officially. I went to a local public hospital once and I don't know if it was the computer or the person using the keyboard, but SOMETHING lost its gotdang mind and input my name, and printed my official papers, as "Aleandriad" and I lost it laughing. My first thought was: "This would be a great D&D name!" Eventually, I started playing DAO and my first character was a Cousland. I thought Aleandriad Cousland was a bit much, so I dropped the 'd' and there we go. So, in a roundabout way, her name means "Defender of Mankind". Her nickname is 'Andry' (because Alistair's nickname is Ali, lol).

MY ORIGINAL NOVEL OCs:

Hamasa: Hamasa is a fire dragon who can shapeshift. His current form is, of course, a human looking young man (for reasons!). He has many names depending on who is talking about him. The Imperial Court calls him: 'Kana'iro' which comes from the words "aka + kin'iro" or "the red golden". His adoptive-sister calls him 'Masaki', and his new bestie, Marya, calls him 'Hamito'. Sometimes, he's also called 'Masa'.

Marya Garsia: Marya is this world's version of "Maria", basically. A simple classic name for a farmer's daughter and for our 2nd MC. Her nickname is usually 'Marrita', though if Hamasa ever felt comfortable enough, he'd call her 'Mariki'.🥺

Emerens Valerius: Valerius is the third/final MC (the main cast is larger, but these 3 get POVs in the two novels thus far). Marya calls him 'Wally', because she's irreverent and knows it'll annoy him. (He goes by Valerius, which is pronounced "Wah-lair-ree-us".) When he was young, he was called 'Emmeki', but very few even know his first name now. In his squad of knights, he was called 'Kaecus', which was a shitty, rude, and ableist nickname meaning "Blind One", because he has very obvious faceblindness.

BLOGTOBER 10/20/2023: DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE (1931)

I liked this movie so much I even got over listening to everybody pronounce it "JEE-kil"! Fredric March won the Oscar for his dual role as the vain young scientist and his monstrous id, and it's easy to see why--although it's maddening to think that not only was there no makeup award at the time, but the artists themselves went uncredited. Norbert A. Myles--who worked uncredited on THE WIZARD OF OZ, THE THIEF OF BAGDAD, and MAD LOVE (also included in this year's Blogtober speed run)--and Wally Westmore, whose zillions of impressive credits include WAR OF THE WORLDS '53 and THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME (also part of Blogtober '23), should really have been honored contemporarily for what remains a simple, elegant, often magical transformation effect that makes the whole movie what it is. At least we all know now.

The other person who should really have been more importantly recognized for her contributions to the timeless horror of this iteration of the Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story is Miriam Hopkins, for her vivid portrayal of the doomed barroom entertainer Ivy who becomes the center of Hyde's sadistic attention. Rouben Mamoulian's movie is a bit of a Jekyll-and-Hyde in and of itself, lingering on the doctor's sappy courtship of his fiance (Rose Hobart) to the point of silliness...and then subjecting the viewer at almost intolerable length to Hyde's merciless destruction of the tragic Ivy. Fredric March's creation of the villain is a real work of art, as repulsive and frightening as it is fascinating, but his efforts wouldn't mean nearly as much without such a convincing and sympathetic victim. Hyde is a delight when he's on the rampage, sowing chaos and destruction among screaming bystanders, but in Ivy's chambers we understand the seriousness of the situation. The film is almost 90 years old but its description of misogynistic violence is as freshly disturbing and heartbreaking as the day of its release. There are a lot more Jekyll and Hyde movies I have yet to see, but even in a world where they were all bad, the Mamoulian edition proves the enduring potency of the story.

so my bf @meowmoths​ and i are on vc right now and i am infodumping about welcome home (as has become the usual recently) and i mentioned having seen this post by creator @/partycoffin

based on their comment, i had mentioned my theory that the neighbors in home might have previously been people (or even just puppets) lured to home that then forgot about their previous lives, as seen with eddie being unable to recall where he came from. but i wasn’t exactly sure how wally fit into that idea, since he seems to have more or less been in home from the beginning.

my boyfriend then suggested that wally may have actually been the creator of the show himself, literally consumed by his work. i went back to the site to check if any specifics about the creator of the show had been mentioned and found (as far as i could tell) that the whrp only mentioned knowing of him and not of communicating with him directly.

but i did find his name.

“what an odd last name,” i said, “i’m not really sure how to pronounce it.” i turned it over in my head a few times before it hit me.

dorelaine, if drawn out in the right way, sounds very much like darlin’. darling. as in wally darling. (ronald becoming wally is a bit more of a stretch but again, could work if drawn out in the right way).

not to mention that wally is the neighborhood’s resident artist, just as ronald was the artist/creator behind the show. 

i’ve also seen people point out that wally’s eyes are much more human than the rest of the cast’s. could it be because he used to be human?

so what do y’all think? are we onto something here? could ronald have been (literally) consumed by his work, taking the form of its protagonist himself?

Finished reading Impulse. I've never read an entire comic of that length before, and something that stood out was the differing emphases of the three major writers the series had (not counting a handful of guest writers who are all doing their own thing).

This is going to veer into opinion, since there are writers I personally prefer to others. Which is not to say any are not good!

Mark Waid (#1-6, 8-17, 19-21, 23-27)

Notable storylines: introduction to Bart and his weird backstory, the initially tense state of Bart and Max's relationship, school and unwanted popularity, Preston's family situation, the Flash crossover involving Jenni Ognats and the speedsters' loss of power, Carol's family situation and increasing closeness with Bart, Max's relationship to Helen, Meloni's reunion with her son and their return to the 30th century

Waid co-created Bart and therefore places careful emphasis on characterization. These issues have a particularly complex take on the character. His Bart is very much a fish out of water, struggling to adjust to normal twentieth-century life. His flaws are more pronounced, particularly his belligerence, but his sensitivity and compassion also drive many storylines, and he's capable of growth. Waid is consciously writing a coming-of-age story, so there's a lot of Bart's being trained and taught by Max. Emotional moments tend to be more subtle and subdued. There's an emphasis on interpersonal conflict but also on slowly bonding and forming friendships. Parenthood is a recurring theme: loss of parents, parents who fail their children, parents who fail but try to make amends, reunion of separated parents and children, those who have to step into the parental roles for children not their own. Some storylines tackle rather heavy topics, with surprising nuance. This run is a sort of first act/season, and it lays the groundwork for the characters and conflicts and the directions they might go.

William Messner-Loebs (#29-40, 42-49)

Notable storylines: encounter with the gunman transporting toxic waste and the long-lasting consequences thereof, Dr. Morlo and David Claiborne, Evil Eye, Devonian Age time travel shenanigans, Bart shaves his head, Gamal, the flood, more prominence for Roland, shooting of Max, brief return of Meloni, guest appearance of Superman

Loebs's Bart shifts away from being predominantly angry to frequently fearful. He is more settled in his new home at this point, but the situations he finds himself in often result in his struggling with panic and indecision. He gets overwhelmed, tries to take on too much, even considers emulating Superman's unhealthily workaholic approach to helping people. But his steps toward responsibility are emphasized. Nevertheless, Loebs's Bart gets relatively fewer stories about him personally and emotionally; instead, there is a greater emphasis on developing/featuring new and existing adult characters, in both supporting and antagonistic roles. Max is explored further as a flawed figure (frequently in contrast to Helen, who is more likely to be the Fun Cool Adult of the household). And it seems to me that in this run the adults in Bart's life are more likely to fail or not be there for him. (e.g. there's an instance of Max using Bart as a pawn in a scheme to foil the villains. Bart, when he finds out, is upset, probably reminded of being similarly used by Wally. He's still mad at Max in the next issue, but this gets hastily swept under the rug, without meaningful resolution.) This is the middle act/season, and I would consider it the least strong of the series. Still good, of course, but maybe less cohesive. Lots of new directions, but not as much central purpose.

Todd Dezago (#50-54, 56-59, 62-89)

Notable storylines: guest appearance of Batman and the Joker, Inertia and the Mercury Falling plot, Bart and friends film a movie, growing interest in Carol, time-traveling and the loss of Carol, acquiring a new power, death of a scout, depression and quitting both superhero work and Young Justice, White Lightning's efforts to bail her mother, disappearance of Max, acquiring magic, what to do about Bart's future?

Dezago emphasizes in the narration opening many issues that Bart tries to use his powers for good. And that sums up his approach to characterization. The emphasis of this run is character development. Dezago's Bart retains his flaws and makes plenty of mistakes, but he's trying so, so hard to be good and has a more pronounced desire to help people. His interpersonal relationship are emphasized: his friendships with both classmates and Young Justice, his now filial closeness to Max, his realizing that he loves Carol. Even relationships with antagonists are brought out; he makes emotional appeals that break poor Thad and tries to encourage White Lightning to do the right thing. The possibility of healing in relationships comes up frequently too. Helen's resentment against Max is resolved. Bart finally has the emotional maturity to address his issues with Wally and get through to him. A potential redemption for Thad is teased. Even though the series had to end with many frustratingly loose threads, Dezago wraps up Bart's coming-of-age arc satisfactorily--taking him through numerous situations that bring about growth and highlighting at the end how far he's come.

(Okay, I'm kind of biased here because a lot of my favorite plots are in Dezago's run)

Anyway, the various writers take the overarching story through stages that fit each's emphasis. The beginning, full of establishment of character and conflict, with flaws on full display. The middle, exploratory, experimental. And the conclusion, which is the payoff of characterization established from the beginning.

Broken Home

So. Set in a world where the puppets are real and live in the human world. The Welcome Home crew are seperated and have gone on separate paths after Wally’s death. You see Wally and Frank had a huge fight after a misunderstanding and Wally disappeared then a week later was pronounced dead. Only his shirt was found with bl00d.

Julie blames Frank and after a huge fight between everyone on who’s fault it was and choosing sides they all go seperate ways. While everyone tries to be civil Julie still blames Frank and it causes Frank to go down a rabbit hole of alcohol and depression. He can barely work and has ptsd.

10 years later a mysterious letter brings them all together to solve their friends murder…but..what if it’s not a murder.

Julie became a waitress. She’s still chipper but bitter.

Sally works as a teacher. She loves kids

Barnaby works as a comedian at the bar Julie works.

Poppy is a cook for a nice diner

Howdy works as a clerk at a store.

Frank works at a big museum but is an alcoholic and has become very depressed.

Eddie still is a mailman but has to take care of Frank who has so much self hate.
