Story time...
During the start of COVID-time, I decided to I wanted to re-collect some comics I had in the early 1990s. I didn't want reprints, I wanted originals.
I wanted to go through Todd McFarlane's Marvel work, starting with Daredevil #241 thru Spider-Man #16 (and then Image's Spawn #1-#25 plus the Violator 3-issue series)... and if you know about his run there, well... there were some pricy titles to collect. However, I wanted to do it, so I did it...
Also, due to COVID-time and my disability, I haven't left the apartment aside from medical appointments, voting and a few random times going out for food and eating outdoors [for the vast majority of the time]. We're both take it quite seriously because I really don't need to get any more sick than I am already. Yes, we're always masking when not in the apartment (and sometimes in the apartment when we have contractors coming in to do work). And we're diligent about as well. We haven't gotten sick yet.
(tldr; I basically haven't left the house unless I had to since Nov. 2020)
Fast forward to 2023 and after some life altering events, we decided to order VIP passes for Calgary Comics+Entertainment Expo, all 4 days. We figured with the early access our odds of not "getting sick" were okay. And also to save my leg from too much stress, we planned to rent a wheelchair.
Fast forward to 2024 and we have our VIP passes to the Calgary Comics+Entertainment Expo... and then McFarlane was announced as a late guest. I thought to myself, sure... I'll get an autograph. I can do that.
But as time ticked on, I felt like naaaah... there are bigger fans who could use waiting in line more than myself. An autograph would be nice but I didn't need one.
Then Fan Expo runs a VIP only context to win free autographs from him. Well then! That I could sign up for. My beloved partner, also a big comics book fan (more on the X-Men side of things [and she was able to get all of the X-Men '97 guests who were here, along with the original animated series Producer and creator autographs... and a selfie with Beast!]), also entered.
We both won (of course I'd get ticket 23... she got 24).
Now I needed to pull some "cool covers" so that we could make some choices (picture 1, above).
She chose Spider-Man #12 (and diligently read that 5-book series to get prepared for the day). I wanted to do Spider-Man #8 (for the very local tie-in) but we didn't exactly need two books signed from that series. So... what to choose, what to choose...
Amazing Spider-Man #311 (and it didn't even make the short list... not in the 1st pic) got the pick. It is a cool cover to be sure but I chose it for the nod to late 1980s Cowboy/Western fashion... and since I've grown up in Calgary, I was very aware of that reference (annual cowboy cosplay celebrations tend to do that... yay Calgary Stampede! [hey, if the comic+entertainment fandom has cosplay for CCEE, why not call the say the same sort of thing for the Stampede... this isn't a negative thing]).
When I told McFarlane why I chose the book I did, I got a chuckle and an "Oh wow!".
The only downside is that due to my disability I'm unable to attend day 4 but my beloved partner gets enjoy a day without pushing me around in a wheelchair (averaging over 9000 steps each of the 3 days)... give her arms and legs a big of a break.
But we did get quite lucky in our timings for things and we appreciated the experiences.
So long as we don't "get sick" and recovery time for this body o'mine doesn't take too long, then I think we can plan to attend again next year.

My Thoughts on X-Men 97 episode 6 LifeDeath Part 2
Another great episode. It was a bit of breather after last weeks shocking and emotional episode.
Great dialogue, there were some brilliant lines.
Alison Sealy-Smith was brilliant voicing Storm and The Adversary.
Spoilers
I was sad that they removed Gambit and Magneto from the line up in the intro but glad they added Nightcrawler.
I understand why they put LifeDeath part 2 after Remember it, as it seems to take place during the Genosha geocide.
I didn't expect the Shi'ar to appear.
Great to see Deathbird get a bigger roll in this episode.
Pretty cool to see Ronan and Vulcan.
Great to see Professor X again and fully recovered.
Lilandra and Charles announce to the Shi'ar empire that they are getting married but the Shi'ar aren't happy because Charles is from Earth.
Deathbird called Earth 'The Milky-Way Ghetto', that was shocking. There were few other racist remarks too, so the Shi'ar are pretty racist.
The Adversary was pretty creepy.
I was so happy Storm faced her Demons and got her powers back, that music gave me goosebumps.
I love that she's changed her appearance to her 70s/80s look. I wasn't fond of the mohawk.
I thought it is funny that while Storm was flying around, Forge was still in that cave.
As I predicted, Storm and Forge find out about the Genocide on Genosha
Charles using his mind to get the Shi'ar into the Astral Plane, in a classroom was hilarious.
Deathbird getting an apple thrown at her was funny.
Oh no, Charles has sensed the genocide on Genosha and Gambit's death. Hmm he didn't seem to sense Magneto's death.
Woooo, He's coming home.
Oh wow! apparently Sinister is involved in the Genocide, I wonder if he's working for someone else though.
I can't wait for the next episode but i'm pretty nervous too. I wonder how long after episode 7 Bright Eyes takes places after the Genocide. I assume it could be a few days.

X-Men '97 Cast: Who's Who In Season 1, Episode 4, From Mojo To Old Jubilee?
This week's #XMen97 brought back some old villains, and brought on some awesome voice cameos.
X-Men ’97 shakes up the formula this week with Season 1, Episode 4 “Motendo / Lifedeath – Part 1.” While the main cast is all present, the episode is split into two halves. Meaning most of the X-Men ’97 voice cast gets the week almost off while the focus turns to Jubilee (Holly Chou) and Roberto Da Costa (Gui Agustini) in one half; and Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith) and Forge (Gil Birmingham) in the…

Marvel Studios: "X-Men '97" Official Trailer
Marvel Studios: "X-Men '97" Official Trailer
It’s been a very long time since the folks at Marvel were about to do anything regarding the X-Men on film or on television but now as 100% owners of 20th Century Studios, the rights have returned to them and the plans are in motion. While the live-action stuff is sorted out, Marvel Studios will be continuing the popular “X-Men: The Animated Series” that ran for a few years and ended in 1992.…

The X-Men are back! X-Men ‘97 is amazing! It captures the essence of the original series and builds on it brilliantly! The first 2 episodes completely blew me away and I can’t wait for more.
Here’s the first of (undoubtedly) many X-Men illustrations, it’s Storm spotting her ‘97 mowhawk look. It was so great hearing Alison Sealy-Smith’s voice as ‘Ro again, and I’m so excited to see more of Storm’s story!

X-Men '97: 5 Things We Learned at Comic-Con 2023
Marvel Studios mostly sat out this year’s Comic-Con, doing little more than releasing a new trailer for The Marvels during the show. But there was one upcoming Marvel project that made a surprise appearance at the convention.
Fans lucky enough to attend the "Designing the X-Men: A This Week in Marvel Special Event" panel were treated to updates on the animated series X-Men ‘97, straight from producers Beau DeMayo, Jake Castorena and Larry Houston. There was even new footage shown of this hotly anticipated X-Men revival.
That footage isn't being released online, but fear not. IGN is here to break down what was shown and what we learned about X-Men '97 at Comic-Con.
X-Men '97 features the voices of Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton and Alyson Court. The series will stream exclusively on Disney+.
