Pakistan announces crackdown on social media misuse

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday announced the federal government’s plans to initiate a comprehensive crackdown on “hate speech” on social media in Pakistan.

It’s by far one of the easiest ways to engage with your target audience. Regardless of your business niche, you should always set up a “page” on the service.

A friend who works for an online marketing company says Twitter’s popularity is gaining ground on Facebook! The service is proud of its 288 million daily users, and the fact that people love its microblogging interface! Setting up a profile on Twitter is fairly straightforward. The good news is that you can “follow” people that follow your profile. Whereas with Facebook, you can only follow other pages. It’s not possible to do so with individuals.

The idea behind Pinterest is that you use the service to “pin” interesting images you find on the Web. If you run a photography business, or one that makes extensive use of photos, Pinterest is the social media site for you! You can create an account on Pinterest manually or simply log in using an existing Facebook account. Once you’re up and running, you can then create “boards” where you can pin your favorite photos. Makes perfect sense if you think about it! If you pin images from your website, the pin will also have a link to the web page it got taken from. You can also write a short description about the image, and use hashtags too (as with Facebook and Twitter). Other Pinterest users can also “re-pin” your pins; this is the Pinterest equivalent of sharing content. It’s an excellent way to drive traffic to your website, and a visual one at that.

The thing about LinkedIn is that it’s a social media site for business users. Kind of like a version of Facebook but exclusively for professionals and companies. If your firm sells to other businesses, you need to set up a LinkedIn profile for it on there. What I love about LinkedIn is that you can join in on group discussions related to particular niches or industries. And, of course, it’s a great way to plug your business for free!
