Thanks for the tag @firawren & @glassslippers-n-cowboyboots
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 45
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 208,023. And that's a bit surprising because a bunch of my longer fics are only on AHA or my website.
3. What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Jane Austen, all novels, Elizabeth Gaskell (Wives & Daughters), and Anne Bronte (The Tenant of Wildfell Hall). I have also technically written Oscar Wilde and My Happy Marriage, but those were very transformative.
I also have written some fics based on Kdramas, mostly for Alchemy of Souls.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Ride to Netherfield - Jane breaks her leg on the way to Netherfield and must stay for a month. Short one-shot (6k) and the first Pride & Prejudice variation I wrote.
Of Every Elizabeth - short and sweet Pride & Prejudice fluff, Darcy has nicknames for the plethora of Elizabeth's he's met over the course of his life (it was a super common name at the time)
Carry Me! - three vignettes of Jang Uk and Cho Yeong from Alchemy of Souls after they are married
The Fourth Bennet Sister - long fic (30k words), Pride & Prejudice variation where Kitty Bennet becomes aware that she is in a novel. She desperately tries to protect her sisters from harm.
All's Fair in Love and War - short Pride & Prejudice variation. Mrs. Bennet has weaponized compromise, men live in constant fear of being forced to marry.
5. Do you respond to comments? Yep. Every time.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Umm.... I'm not good at writing angst. I don't like characters to suffer for too long.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? All of them?
8. Do you get hate on fics? Yes, because I dared to write Mr. Darcy marrying Anne Elliot. People get more angry about that for some reason than Elizabeth Bennet marrying Captain Wentworth in the same fic. Someone even told me Darcy would rather "throw himself off of Pemberley" rather than marry anyone other than Elizabeth. (Fic is called One Week Late)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have written smut a few times, it's pretty vanilla because I am pretty vanilla. I was reading Victorian erotica when I wrote my longest one, A Little Before Their Marriage (Jane & Bingley fic).
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I constantly write crossovers, my first published novel is a massive crossover, Prideful & Persuaded. One of my fun shorts is Fall on the Sword, where every canonically single woman in Austen's novels decides if they want to try for the recently divorced Mr. Rushworth.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not as far as I know.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No, though someone did translate one of my meta posts from Tumblr. That was cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, The Marriage Contest with Branch Cloudsky and two with Amelia Marie Logan, Poor Caroline and Inferior Connections. All Pride & Prejudice fics, all funny. (You need an AO3 account for that one, the other two are on my personal website)
14. What’s your all time favourite ship? Catherine Morland & Henry Tilney. They are the only Austen couple I cannot bear to break up.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I am writing a queer retelling of Emma called "Different Ways of Being in Love", where Jane Fairfax and Emma were lovers as teenagers, Jane is bi, Emma is a lesbian, and Mr. Knightley is ace, but I got stuck on the middle part. Someday hopefully!
16. What are your writing strengths? I'm told I write some pretty hilarious farces. I am told I do characterization well, which is my main goal when writing fan fiction. I try to stick as close to canon as possible.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I don't write enough filler or develop things well enough. I like writing action.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I would possibly try my hand at French, but probably never. I also have a lot of trouble reading accented speech (looking at you Wuthering Heights), so I'd probably never write it.
19. First fandom you wrote for? I am fairly certain I started writing a fix-it fic for Nineteen Eighty-Four after I read it in high school. Not sure I would be able to locate it but it did exist. The first since I started writing again was a sequel to Pride & Prejudice.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Probably Unfairly Caught (my other published work) or The Fourth Bennet Sister. I NEEDED to write a Mansfield Park fic because I hate the ending, so it fixed my dissatisfied feelings. My goal is to edit The Fourth Bennet Sister and get it published sometime this year.

Fanfic Writer Questions!
Thanks for the tag, @fazedlight and @thatonebirdwrites
1- How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 16
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
356,960
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Supergirl – Arrowverse/ DC Comics: Primarily Supercorp, secondarily Dansen, Brainia, and J’M’zz, and I have one AgentReign with secondary Supercorp.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
PRIDE and Prejudice – Super gay retelling of Jane Austen’s classic. Every kudos equals $1.00US to a LGBTQIA2S charity I make at the conclusion of Pride month (June) each year (teen)
Tell Me It’s Not Too Late – Post-S4, Lillian believes Supergirl is responsible for Lex’s death. Lena rushes to J’onn’s for game night, to confront Kara on her identity, only to find she’s nowhere to be found (teen)
I Believe in a Thing Called Love – Full alternate Season 6 rewrite (teen)
Wouldn’t It Be Nice – 50 First Dates movie AU (teen)
How Lost We Are – Lena is placed by her Witness Protection team (Maggie, Kelly, and Lucy) in Midvale as a flower shop owner where she meets teacher Kara and coffee/bookshop owner Jess, among others (mature)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes, I do usually respond, though not always right away. I enjoy chatting about my fics, so don’t hesitate to ask questions, but I don’t give out spoilers though.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
When She’s Gone, the Darkness Comes – Oof. It was so sad I had to write a second chapter. I much prefer happy endings (teen)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of them have a happy ending of some kind, or they will once they’re completed. Though there are some with happy endings like Speak Now and Tis the Damn Season. Smut. I’m talking about smut (explicit)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Yeah, though I’ve been mostly lucky. I don’t know why people leave hate on any fics really. If you don’t like something, close the tab.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. It started as a small scene here or there when it was a natural progression of the fic, but now I occasionally right full smut fics and pwp like those found here (explicit)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Kind of, but the characters are all from within the Arrowverse/ DC Comics universes somewhere.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. I don't understand why someone would do this. Please respect writers.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes. I Believe in a Thing Called Love is also in Spanish Creo en una cosa llamada amor (teen)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I’m currently working on one with @thatonebirdwrites, though it's not published. It’s a Supercorp fic where Kara is a building inspector and when she goes to inspect Lena’s home, she meets Lena’s daughter to tells her the floor is lava, so naturally Kara has to ensure that issue gets resolved.
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Supercorp. But I do love most wlw ships
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I intent to finish all of my active WIPs. I have some WIP ideas that may or may not ever get going, but once I start a fic, I intend to finish it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I have no idea… I guess easter egg type stuff or like blending canon into storylines. If your a reader and there's something you think is a strength I have, let me know.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Actually writing. Words be hard. And it's hard to find the time.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I do it sometimes, probably not well. I like to include the translation in the fic (unless the characters themselves aren’t supposed to understand until later). But I'm sure the translations aren't fully right as I only use google translate and the Kryptonian dictionary.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Supercorp. I started writing fiction in Dec 2020. Before that it was all scientific research papers for uni.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
I suppose What Has Been Lost (Mature). It was what started this crazy adventure, has been the most challenging piece, and my longest (still ongoing). It truly blends lore and characters from across the Arrowverse and DC Comics into a human world and original storyline.

20 Questions for fic writers
I've been tagged by @firawren @glassslippers-n-cowboyboots and @bethanydelleman
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 149, apparently. Bear in mind, most of these are very, very short, including 3 rounds now of the February Ficlet Challenge.
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 297,078
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Frozen is the big one, also Tangled, various Jane Austen fandoms (mostly Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey), as well as Downton Abbey.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Means of Uniting Them (Pride and Prejudice)
Have You Heard? (Pride and Prejudice, something of a "prequel" to The Means of Uniting Them)
The Young Diplomat (Frozen/Tangled crossover)
Mrs. Darcy and Her Sister (Pride and Prejudice, Darcy/Jane, Bingley/Elizabeth)
What If... (Frozen canon divergence drabble collection)
5. Do you respond to comments? I do, even if it literally takes a year or two.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I suppose "Have You Heard?", at least of my works that have more readers than I have fingers and toes... (a few of my OC drabble collections are pretty angsty, but almost nobody reads those...)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Happiest? I don't know. I haven't published most of my darker stuff, so nothing ends too badly. I suppose some of them might be a bit bittersweet.
8. Do you get hate on fics? I got some on the Darcy/Jane ficlet.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I've written a bit, and "vanilla" would probably describe it.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I write a lot of crossovers. As far as the craziest, I suppose the Elsa/Darcy one...?
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? One to German and one to Russian.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I've never tried.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship? Anna/Kristoff
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Probably one of them that I haven't started posting outside of some drabbles and ficlets. Maybe I'll get around to some of them eventually. (My WWII Downton Abbey post-canon AU is probably the one I'd love to actually write a proper longfic for.)
16. What are your writing strengths? I've gotten compliments on my dialogue.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Feelings? That's where I feel weakest, anyway.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? A lot of my dialogue can be assumed to be translated from another language, but aside from a few words I never write dialogue in another language.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Frozen
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? The Young Diplomat, being the beginning of all the plot and characters that spend the most time living rent-free in my head, probably deserves this distinction.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
thanks for the tag @a-noble-dragon
How many works do you have on ao3?
78
What’s your total ao3 word count?
934,082
What fandoms do you write for?
White Collar, The Good Place, Supernatural, Discworld, Doctor Who, Leverage, Psych, Murderbot Diaries, Jane Austen novels, and more
Top five fics by kudos:
1 Caffrey Conversation
2 Choirboy Caffrey
3 By the Book
4 Bouquet
5 Caffrey Envoy
Do you respond to comments?
I try to. I think I keep up on AO3, but the email issues on FF have been a trial.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh, that's tough. I don't tend to end with angst. I'd say probably:
The Late Ambassador Spock
Do you get hate on fics?
There have been a few negative comments, but I don't recall any that were outright hate
Do you write smut?
Nope
Wildest crossover:
There have been some interesting combinations when I've written crossovers for exchanges. One that jumps to mind is:
Universal Truths of Time Travel - A Doctor Who and Pride & Prejudice crossover
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No, I don't think so
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Maybe? Someone reached out to ask permission and I agreed but they never got back to me with a link
Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Sort of? I wrote an epilogue to one of Silbrith's stories:
Dawn of the Jackalopes
All time favorite ship?
Oh, that's tough. In terms of writing, my favorite romantic ship has been Neal Caffrey & Sara Ellis of White Collar, and my favorite friendship has been Neal & Peter. In terms of being the audience, I adore Murderbot and its friends, especially Murderbot and ART.
What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Once I started outlining something I called Operation Athena, which was a retelling of one of my Caffrey Conversation stories from the POV of the women. It sounds fun, but I don't know when I'd find the time to write it.
What are your writing strengths?
Why do I go blank on this type of question? I remember getting positive comments about the way the plot threads intertwine and reappear in the Caffrey Conversation series, so let's go with that
What are your writing weaknesses?
At the moment, it's staying focused long enough to make progress.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
Once in a fandom charity auction I won the services of someone who speaks French, and that resulted in lines in French in By the Book. Otherwise I'm always too worried about making mistakes.
First fandom you wrote in?
The first one I wrote down was a birthday present for a friend based on the musical Annie. The first I published was in White Collar.
Favorite fic you’ve written?
Oh, how do I chose? Caffrey Conversation is dear to my heart as the first one I published.
Open tag to my fic writing friends! I'd love to see your answers

In this chapter, Merrill, Tamlen and Mahariel go on tour... and decide to stop by Lothering after all. Huge thanks to @storybookhawke for this lovely art – original artwork post (without text) is here.

Pairings: Eventual Carver/Merrill, background F!Mahariel/Tamlen and F!Hawke/Isabela; other pairings not revealed yet Other characters: Marian Hawke, Bethany Hawke, Leandra Hawke, Isabela, Tamlen, Fenarel, Female Mahariel, Keeper Marethari, Sabrae Clan, Arishok, Pol, Dragon Age: Redemption Characters (Chapters 51 to 53)   Other tags: Alternative Universe – Regency, Pride & Prejudice References, Bethany and Carver Hawke Live, Pride & Prejudice AU, Fluff and Humour, Ballroom Dancing, Secret Relationships, Comedy of Errors, Jane Austen References, Pining, Rejected Marriage Proposals     Summary: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, Lady Leandra Amell tried to impress upon her three children, that a single man in possession of a large fortune must be in want of a wife. However she hoped this wisdom would be received by her offspring, Lady Amell was dismayed to find that it had not had the effect she intended.” Regency AU. When Miss Merrill attends the Kirkwall public assembly ball, the last man she expects to engage in a dance is Carver Hawke – a single man who has just come into possession of a large fortune. This chance meeting, however, sets them both on a path they never expected. READ FROM THE BEGINNING ON ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN
———
The weeks passed away quickly; and the period of Merrill’s much-anticipated travels arrived. The night before, Merrill had been so excited she thought she would not sleep; and on the morning itself she flitted about so happily and exuberantly, that Keeper Marethari could not temper her high spirits if she tried. Merrill believed that even Tamlen and Mahariel were not as happy as she was, even though they themselves were clearly excited and cheerful that morning, given they were setting off in pursuit of novelty and amusement with her.
Tamlen himself was in such good humour that he even agreed to accompany Merrill and Mahariel in calling on the Hawke sisters before they went – although he insisted that their visit was as brief as possible, for he wanted to cross the Waking Sea and reach Ferelden well before nightfall – and this they did, although Miss Bethany was out again with her mother, and they found Miss Hawke all alone and writing a letter.
‘Bethany will be so disappointed to have missed you,’ Miss Hawke told them, as she folded up her letter to seal it, ‘but I am thankful you decided to take leave of us before you depart for the countryside. And it is an honour, Mr Sabrae,’ she continued politely to Tamlen, ‘that you decided to accompany your wife and cousin. I bid you all safe travels and adieu, and look forward to hearing all about them when you eventually return to Kirkwall.’
‘I will miss you!’ Merrill cried as she hugged her friend, taking Miss Hawke so much by surprise that the latter dropped the folded letter she had been holding. ‘Oh! I am so sorry, Miss Hawke – let me get that for you—’ and here Merrill bent down to pick up the parchment that had floated to the floor; Miss Hawke had bent down for it too; but, in her nervousness at having done something wrong again, Merrill was quicker.
As she picked up the sheet of paper, which was full with Miss Hawke’s handwriting, Merrill caught sight of the words:
I will submit to any thing you may command me—but cease to respect, to love and adore you, I never can or will.

Fic Writer Wrapped- 2023 Edition
I did this in 2022 and 2021, and am revving it back up for my own personal interest in tracking these things. Tagging anyone reading this if you want to participate!
Like in previous years, this is about fic published on ao3 in 2023 (not amount of words written in 2023, which I don't keep track of).
How many stories did you complete?
I completed one longfic (more than 100k words), eight medium fics (between 15k and 100k), and forty-two short fics (under 15k). Just like last year, I continue to have considerable lag between writing and publishing. The longfic and some of the medium fics were mostly written in 2022, but published and finished this year.
What is your total word count for the year?
547,416 words
What fandoms did you write in this year?
I really committed to the multi-fandom bit. I also discovered an addiction to cdramas. I wrote in Harry Potter, Tolkien, The Grisha Trilogy, Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen, Emma - Jane Austen, Twilight, the Locked Tomb, House of the Dragon, 陈情令 The Untamed, 山河令 Word of Honor, 苍兰诀 Love Between Fairy and Devil, 莲花楼 Mysterious Lotus Casebook, 无量 Wúliàng, and 长月烬明 Till the End of the Moon.
Did you write more, less, or roughly about what you expected?
This year's published word count borrows from many projects that were written in 2022, probably about 150k words' worth. Even subtracting that, I wrote a lot more than I expected. Because I didn't write a long fic this year (123k of Rainbow of Chaos's total of 130k words was written in 2022), I felt like I was unproductive compared to previous years. But I actually I wrote a lot!
What’s your favorite story of the year?
To catch a fox (Grisha verse, the Darkling/Nikolai). I had a blast writing this, it felt like it wrote itself, and I think the fic is so much fun, I still enjoy re-reading it, and I'm really happy about how many other people liked it as well!
What is your most underappreciated story of the year?
This question gets harder and harder to answer every year, because the more deliberately niche I write the happier I am when I get a single comment and feel that is more than sufficient appreciation. I guess if I had to pick one, it's my Aredhel/Celegorm fic, because imo this ship deserves to be more popular than it is!
Biggest fanfic-related disappointment of 2023?
I was riding the high of discovering the Darkling/Nikolai ship after watching the TV show Shadow and Bone in March. A good friend left a prompt that I loved, in an event called Fandom Orienteer, which had a several-month-long writing period and then a posting window in August. I bit off more than I could chew when I started writing Palace in the Dark, found my ideas too plotty, and did not finish in time to post a completed story in August. By the time I actually finished over Thanksgiving, not only did I miss being part of the event, I had lost almost all my WIP readers (except my friends from the darkolai server, shout out to you, you are the best!). It's fine, the fic is finished and complete on my profile, and readers will slowly find it. But I was disappointed in not being able to finish in July for the event and when the momentum from the show was hotter.
Biggest fanfic-related surprise of 2023?
I'm surprised by how many multi-fandom exchanges I did. I was only dipping my toe into them in 2022 and was not sure the whole thing really suited me. I wrote almost forty exchange fics this year, and got some amazing gift fics in exchange, and it's been really fun.
Something you look forward to working on in 2024?
I think I'll work on more villain-centric fic for MDZS, and also hopefully write more new-to-me fandoms for exchanges.

Hot for Teacher
Coming back to Hawkins High was strange. Strange in a good way, because you weren’t back here because of something you’d done or because you had to go back to school. No, you were here because you were going to work here as a substitute teacher. You’d finished your courses for the semester, had handed your essays in, and had gone home for Christmas - and now you were staying for the rest of the school year. Your work at school counted for that semester, because you needed to get some experience actually working as a teacher. That meant that you’d be working alongside some of your old teachers, but you’d also chip in in case someone got sick - and you were watching over the students in detention.
Setting foot back into your old school after one and a half years was exhilarating. You knew most of the teachers, and some of the students as well, since you’d tutored them, so you were excited to see them, see how they were doing. What you didn’t expect to see, though, was a familiar face that had sat next to you in English, one of the courses he actually had attended, because books were something Eddie Munson loved. Maybe not exactly the ones you’d had to read in school, but some of them at least, and you distinctly remembered him reciting something from Hamlet standing on top of the table in the cafeteria.God, you’d had the biggest crush on him, but had never said a word to anyone. Because as much as he was a sweetheart towards you, always greeting you with a smile, he was also intimidating in a way you couldn’t describe. Not scary or anything, just… a little unapproachable. You’d talked about stuff during class, had shared some book recommendations, but he’d still always seemed so in his own world, that you hadn’t thought you’d fit into this world. You’d taken what you’d been able to get, the casual conversations, the books you’d swapped before the last summer you’d spent at home. You still had that book, had kept it as a memory and also as a lucky charm. It was an edition of Tolkien’s The Hobbit with notes and thoughts Eddie had written on the pages. He’d gotten your copy of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice with notes as well, because he hadn’t wanted to read it at first. But you’d made a deal, that you’d read The Hobbit if he gave Austen a chance. It had just been a funny little deal you’d made, but it still made you smile. Before the summer was over, you’d met again for a brief moment, and when you’d wanted to give the book back to him, he’d told you to keep it. Something to remember him by.
You could still feel the butterflies when you remembered the look on his face. That had been that moment, the time when you could have been able to tell him just how you’d felt about him, but to what avail? You were just leaving for university and he was still staying in Hawkins, because he had to repeat the year. You’d always thought that it must have been for the best, but you’d never forgotten about him.
And now, he sat in your English class at the back of the room, scribbling something down, and all the butterflies you’d thought had vanished in that time, were back suddenly, making your head spin. Having him around would make working here a lot more difficult.
~~~
School had just started again after Christmas break, so Eddie thought that he could at least try to attend every class. After all, he wanted to finally graduate this year, and even though he’d been through the courses twice, there were still some alterations here and there, especially when it came to English. Last year, they’d read pretty much the same books as the year before, just one had been different, but this year, it had already started out differently, and it was intriguing for Eddie. That’s why he was here, because he wanted to know what they would continue with.
“Alright, some of you might remember her, because she was a student here up until two years ago when she graduated. She’s gonna work with me a little bit, and she’ll work here as a substitute teacher. Please welcome Miss Y/L/N.”
“Hi! It’s nice to be back, and I do remember some faces!”
When Eddie heard your voice, he immediately looked up, because he knew that voice, remembered it, because it had appeared in his dreams more often than he’d like to admit. And there you were, all smiles just like he remembered you. Your hair looked different, but apart from that, you were still the same beautiful girl he remembered - or should he say woman?
God, he’d had the biggest crush on you, but had never really said anything, because he’d been too shy. Sure, he’d talked to you, and he’d probably had the opportunity when you’d talked about your favourite books, but he hadn’t gotten the words out. By now, he was a bit more confident than he’d been two years ago. But he still remembered everything - and he still kept your book on his nightstand to read a few pages now and then. And while he wondered, if you still had his book, you held exactly that one up to the class. His mind was reeling. This almost felt like a dream, but he was pretty sure that he’d gotten out of bed this morning. He pinched his own thigh beneath the table, the slight pain all too real, so he knew that he hadn’t conjured you up in his dreams once again.
“I know what you’re thinking… The Hobbit is a children’s book and it is. At least, it was written for children, and you can see that very clearly in the onomatopoeia Tolkien uses.” Confused noises were heard through the room, but Eddie just had to smirk. You’d really chosen the book he’d given you as the one to work on with the class, and you’d clearly gotten to the bottom of said book, otherwise you wouldn’t have said what you’d just said.
“What’s that mean?” One of the other students asked.
“It means that he describes sounds, so instead of writing that the doorbell rang or something, he writes that it made dingdongelingdang.” Eddie was surprised with himself that he’d spoken up, when he usually tried to lay low and just make it through the day. The others seemed surprised as well, but you smiled. Because you knew that he’d get what you were talking about.
“Mr Munson is right.” Eddie cringed a little, you calling him that so foreign to his ears that it sounded rather strange, but he’d probably have to get used to that. “That’s what we’ll be looking at. Recurring themes as well as the quest plot. I won’t say anything more about this, maybe you can find out what I mean until next time.”
Oh, Eddie already knew what you were talking about, but then again, he was more than familiar with the book. But he was pretty certain that he’d have a hard time concentrating with you in the room, because he already felt the longing he’d pushed down years ago return.
When the lesson was over and everyone filed out of the room, Eddie stayed back. You saw him out of the corner of your eyes, had to bite your lip when he approached the teacher’s desk, your supervisor already gone, so you two were alone.
“So… you’re back at Hawkins High,” Eddie said, pushing his hands in the front pockets of his jeans. He looked so much like a little school boy when he stood like that, that it was almost comical.
“Yeah, and you’re still here.” There was no accusation in your words, just curiosity. You knew how clever he was, he just lost focus sometimes way too quickly. It had been like that two years ago, and was probably the same now.
“Yeah…” Eddie didn’t really want to talk about it, because there was not a lot to say. “I see you kept the book.” That was a much safer topic for him, for both of you.
“Of course I did!” Had he really thought that you’d get rid of it? Maybe even throw it away? You couldn’t tell him how much that book meant to you, especially not considering that you were his teacher now. “It’s inspired me a lot, otherwise I wouldn’t have chosen it for the class.”
“I’ve still got yours as well.”
“You did?” You hated the way your heart picked up its pace at his words, because a tiny part of you believed that he’d kept it to remember you by, just like you’d done with his book.
“Sure did. Still read it every now and then. I never told you, but I actually really enjoyed it, and all your little notes.”
“Miss Y/L/N?”
Glad for the interruption because it kept you from giggling like a teenager, you looked up at your supervisor and nodded. They were waiting for you, you knew that, but… with Eddie around, you kind of forgot about that.
“I’ll be right there.”
He nodded and turned back around to leave. Your eyes landed on Eddie again, on the smile on his lips, on the curls that framed his face perfectly, but you made the mistake of looking into his deep brown eyes that you could get lost in. Quickly, you shook your head.
“I hope I’ll see you around in my class then,” you said with a smile as you took your bag and headed for the door.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world!” Eddie called after you, his words turning that smile into a big grin.
~~~
“Have you seen the new substitute teacher?” Gareth asked once they were sitting at their table in the cafeteria. Of course that had to be the topic. They’d already talked about how their holidays had been, but your arrival at the school was their topic number one.
“Yeah, she used to be my tutor.” Jeff took a bite from his sandwich as he leaned back.
“Heard she’s talking about the Hobbit in your class?” Dustin asked, his eyes set on Eddie, because that was a topic they both obsessed over. Lord of the Rings even more, but The Hobbit was always worth talking about as well.
“Yeah…” Eddie leaned back, grabbing a handful of pretzels to shove them in his mouth. “Guess who gave her that book.”
“No way!” Dustin’s eyes widened, curiosity shining in them. “Were you two…” He made a gesture with his hands that made the others chuckle.
“No!” The finality in his words made their chuckles die down, but Eddie sighed. “Well… I’d say we bonded over books but nothing ever happened. Once I’d nearly worked up the courage… she was gone. Or as good as gone. Whatever.” He sighed once more, because he still wondered what could have happened if he’d only had the courage to ask you out, even before you’d graduated. But it didn’t change anything, did it? In the end, he wouldn’t have wanted to hold you back anyway.
“But you did like her…?” Gareth inquired, because now, he was curious.
“I guess.” It wasn’t exactly something Eddie wanted to talk about. He’d already said enough, and he knew that some of the guys would probably tease him about it, so it was better to not get into more detail. He diverted the topic to the next Dungeons and Dragons campaign, because he knew that they would all get excited about this and probably forget all about you in the meantime.
All of them did, except for Dustin, who stayed back for a moment when everyone else left for class.
“Just so you know… Miss Y/L/N ist also watching over detention.” The grin on Dustin’s lips told its own story, and Eddie couldn’t deny that his words made him get a couple of ideas. Not that he wanted to get stuck in detention, but with you there… it was probably worth it.
~~~
Your first days passed by rather pleasantly, and you were enjoying yourself. Most of the students were eager to learn, were participating in your classes, or they at least had the decency to not disturb you. Maybe, because you’d been one of them not long ago. It didn’t matter in the end because you were just glad that it was like this. And so far, you hadn’t had to watch over detention. Today was the first day, but you could use that time to get some reading of your own done, or look through the tests you’d been given.
What you didn’t expect, was one Eddie Munson sitting on top of the table when you entered the classroom. Your steps faltered, but you caught yourself again. It was one thing to see him in class with other people around, but a different one when you were here alone for a whole hour. Because you knew that it was just one student. Eddie Munson. Next time, you should make them give you a list so that you were prepared for what was to come.
“Mr Munson! What brings you here?” You put down your bag on the desk, busying yourself with a bunch of papers.
“I’ll never get used to you calling me that,” Eddie said with a chuckle before he leaned against the desk. “Do you really wanna know?”
“Probably not.” You couldn’t help but laugh. There were a couple of reasons you could think of, but in the end, it didn’t really matter.
“Anything I can help you with?” He leaned over the desk to get a glimpse at what you were getting out of your bag. When you looked up, your faces were so close that you could feel his breath tickle your cheek, and you suddenly straightened up.
“No, I… I think I’ll just do all that later and read a little bit. Do you have any homework you need to get done? Could use the time right now.” You took a step back from the desk, smoothed your plaid skirt down and quickly took the book out of your bag.
“Nope. No homework. Maybe you could read to me?” Eddie kept his eyes on you but walked over to one of the chairs and sat down. He enjoyed seeing you get so flustered, because it meant that he definitely had some kind of effect on you. He was a little bolder now than he’d been back then, but he needed to find out what you thought, how you felt, before he came right out and told you what he was thinking about, how he’d been feeling for you, because these feelings had come back with a bang.
“You want me to read Persuasion to you?” A look of surprise crossed your face as you turned the book over to show it to him. Another Austen book, you’d read it a couple of times before, but you wanted to start your year with a re-read of her books
“You know, I’m normally the storyteller, so it’s nice for a change. Totally fine if you don’t want to.” Eddie leaned back, his eyes still fixed on you. You remembered that he played D&D, that he was the Dungeon Master and came up with the campaigns, and while you weren’t into that game yourself, you certainly knew what it was about.
“No, it’s alright. I just haven’t read out loud in a while.” And it made you nervous to read to him. The whole class? No problem. But just to Eddie? That was different, even though you didn’t like to admit it to yourself. But he still had the same effect on you that he’d had back then, could still make you nervous when he winked at you or even just looked at you a moment too long. But you were his teacher now, so that was a completely different situation.
You sat down in your chair and opened the book. Another look at Eddie before you started reading it out loud. Your heartbeat slowed down the longer you read, and you began to enjoy yourself. Eddie just sat there, watching you, listening to you. It was the best thing he’d experienced this week. Sure, Wayne had read to him a couple of times when he’d been younger, but nobody did that anymore when you were an adult. So it was extremely soothing for him to listen to you.
“A man does not recover-” you started only to be interrupted by Eddie.
“- From such devotion of the heart to such a woman! He ought not; he does not.” Eddie sighed as he got up from his chair and walked over to you again.
“You… You’ve read Persuasion?” Genuinely surprised, you got up from your chair as well and put the book down.
“Not only Persuasion. After I was finished with Pride and Prejudice, you had me intrigued, so I read Austen’s other books as well. Find out what makes you tick, because I always saw you with an Austen book around.” Eddie stopped right in front of you.
“You did?” You hated how high pitched your voice sounded, but you couldn’t deny the way he made your heart race, his mere presence made your skin tingle. You knew that you should step back, but you were frozen in place.
“Mhm… Always wanted to ask you out, but I was always too nervous. Too shy.”
“You? Shy?”
His fingertips danced across your cheek, your eyes fluttered shut, and you leaned into that touch.
“Worked past that as it seems.” Eddie’s chuckle made you open your eyes again, and when you saw him leaning in, you finally snapped back. Taking a step back, you ran both of your hands over your face and through your hair.
“This is not a good idea,” you said weakly, reaching for the book to put it back in your bag. You had to get away from here, away from him. Technically, you were the same age, but you were still in a position of power as his teacher - even if you weren’t a real teacher yet, you were still the one teaching him.
“Why not? I mean… nobody had to know about this. It’s not like we could have had something before you started here as a teacher.” He was right, yes, but you didn’t want to get anyone in trouble. Eddie wanted to graduate this year, and you were not going to fuck this up for him.
“Eddie, this could get you expelled and I could lose this job.”
“Then tell me that you don’t feel the same way I do, and I’ll leave you alone.” His words were soft, his hand reaching out for yours. He was asking the impossible from you, because you couldn’t lie to him.
“Go home Eddie. Detention is over.” You pulled your hand free from his, took your bag, and practically ran out of the room and out of the building, finding it hard to breathe all of a sudden. You should have lied to him, should have told him that you didn’t have any feelings for him, but one look in his honest eyes and you hadn’t been able to tell a lie.
~~~
The next few days were rather uneventful, but you couldn’t help looking at Eddie - and found him staring back most of the time. You exchanged looks all of the time, but he didn’t show up in detention anymore, so that was good for you. With someone else around, it was always alright, you just couldn’t be trusted when you were around him alone.
Tonight, you wanted a little relief, so you went to the Hideout with one of your old friends. Sandy was still living in Hawkins, and you’d met up during the holidays, and even now, you were spending your time together. You’d told her about what had happened - or nearly happened -  with Eddie. She’d known about your crush even back when you’d still been in school, so that story had gotten her all giddy. She’d told you back then to tell him, to go out with him, do something at least, but even her words hadn’t changed anything in your behaviour. Known now that Eddie had the hots for you made her want to lock you two up in a room together.
“Sandy, we can’t do anything about this!” you said to her once again while getting ready to go out.
“I know, I know, it’s inappropriate, but you’re not even a real teacher!”
“Thank you…” You rolled your eyes before you applied some lipstick and fluffed up your hair a bit more.
“You know what I mean. And Eddie is technically not a student anymore. Only on paper.”
“Yeah, and that’s the problem!” You squeezed your eyes shut, taking a deep breath. You had no idea how you were supposed to get through the rest of the year with him constantly there - because unlike two years ago, it almost seemed like he went to every class now.
“You could keep it a secret!”
“Yeah, but then you know, the Hellfire Boys will know as well, and only one has to spill the beans and everything’s screwed. Who will trust me with their children when they know that I had something going on with a student?” A question you didn’t need an answer for, so you kept on talking. “Let’s just… forget about it for tonight, okay? I just want to have a drink, enjoy some music, and then get some well deserved sleep.”
“Alright.” Sandy squeezed your shoulder. She never meant any harm, only wanted what was best for you, but sometimes that wasn’t exactly the very best thing.
The Hideout wasn’t exactly packed, but there were still enough people, so that it took some time for you to get your drinks, but once you had them, you could find a spot from where you could see the stage. When you saw the band’s banner on stage, though, you nearly choked on your drink.
“Are you kidding me?” You turned to Sandy, a look of bewilderment on your face.
“What? What’s the matter?”
“Corroded Coffin are playing tonight! You could have told me that!”
“So?” She looked at you until something in her brain clicked. “Oh fuck! Y/N, I really didn’t think about that! Shit!”
“Fancy seeing you here!” His voice send shivers down your spine immediately, you didn’t even have to see him. Now, it was too late to just turn around and leave, because he knew that you were here.
“Hey Eddie…” You turned around to face him, trying your best to smile at him.
“Oh, so it’s Eddie now?”
“Want me to call you Mr Munson?”
“Ahh that hurts me.” He put a hand over his heart and stumbled back a little, making you chuckle. Always the drama-king.
“You remember Sandy?” You tried to divert his attention to your friend, but they just nodded at each other.
“Sure so, she comes here quite often.”
“There’s not exactly a lot of places to go in Hawkins.”
“You got a point.” Eddie laughed before he looked at you again. He reached for your hand and you let him take it, didn’t pull back this time. “Got a special song for you, so I hope you’re staying?”
“Of course we are!” Sandy said over your shoulder winking at Eddie, while you held your breath. You couldn’t answer, didn’t even have to right now.
“Good. You’ll know the song when you hear it.” He raised your joined hands to his lips to brush a kiss across your knuckles, before he turned around to get back to the stage to finish setting up.
“So… and you’re telling me you want to resist that charme?”
“I have to try at least.” You heaved a sigh before you raised your glass to your lips, and drained it in one go. You had to, though you knew that he really made it hard for you to resist him.
~~~
Eddie was nervous because of you. They’d been practising Van Halen’s Hot for Teacher pretty much ever since you’d appeared at the school, they’d pretty much perfected it, but you being here made him nervous as fuck. He knew what he was doing, they all did, but he still missed the first note of their first song because his eyes were glued to you.
Somehow, he made it through their show, and even managed to look at other people apart from you, but in the end, his eyes always found you again. Your smile encouraged him, so when they started the last song, his eyes never wavered from your figure.
“I’ve got it bad, so bad, I’m hot for teacher,” he sang, and he could swear that he saw your eyes widening at that. You knew the song, of course you did, but Eddie singing this song for you made you tingle in all the right places. For a moment, you were able to forget that this could not happen, too blissed out on the feeling he gave you by singing this song for you.
Still, once it was over, you felt your chest tighten, all of it suddenly too much, the room too hot, and so you turned to Sandy.
“I’m gonna get some fresh air. Need to clear my head a little.”
“Want me to come with you?”
“No, it’s fine. I’ll be back in a minute.” You gave her a smile before you headed out the back door. The cold January air hitting your face, making you aware that you’d forgotten your jacket inside. It didn’t really matter because you were just out here for a moment. There were some other people around the corner talking loudly, so you weren’t completely alone, but you were still able to clear your head. At least until you heard the door behind you and saw Eddie walk up to you when you turned around.
“You okay?” He asked, brows drawn together, because he was worried about you.
“Yeah, don’t worry. Just a little hot in there.”
“And now you’re freezing out here?” He couldn’t help but smile as he ran his fingertips along your arm, making you aware of the goosebumps that were there due to the low temperatures, but were only getting worse when he was touching you like this.
“Here…” Eddie shrugged out of his leather jacket and draped it over your shoulders, leaving him in a black shirt. His hair was damp with sweat, the curls clinging to his forehead.
“No, Eddie… What about you?” You looked at him through your lashed, already feeling your heart begin to race again, the butterflies turning into a whole tornado in your stomach by being so close to him.
“Oh, I know a way or two to get warm.” His voice dropped to a low rumble in his chest, and you could feel his eyes on your lips. That was the moment when you should pull back, put some distance between you, but you couldn’t. You were frozen in place, stuck in this moment with him, and you couldn’t tear yourself away from him - because you didn’t want to. Instead, when he pinched your chin between his thumb and pointer finger, you leaned into him to meet him halfway. Still, when his lips met yours, it felt like electricity suddenly ran through your whole body, down to your toes, into every fibre of your body.
Your fingers curled against his chest, grabbing a handful of his shirt when he angled his head to deepen the kiss. His hand slipped from your chin to the back of your neck, tilting your head to his pleasing so that your lips opened up beneath him and he could slip his tongue past them to taste your mouth. He wrapped his free arm around you to pull you closer.
You couldn’t stop yourself from moaning into his mouth, because it felt so good, he felt so good and tasted even sweeter. When he eventually pulled back, he left you breathless, longing for more, and your head felt almost empty. It was perfect.
You blinked your eyes open, slowly letting go of his shirt. You could feel his heartbeat beneath your hands, that was beating as fast as your own.
“You believe me now that I’m serious about this? About you?” Eddie cupped your cheek, running his thumb over your cheekbone, eyes fixed on yours, trying to convey that he was absolutely sincere in his intentions.
“That’s not it, Eds…” The fog in your head slowly cleared, and you started to realise what had just happened. Panic started rising in your chest and you quickly broke the embrace, took a step back from him.
“Here we go..” Eddie mumbled, cursing himself for believing just for a moment that this could have a good ending, that you could commit to him. In a way, he understood you, but his longing for you overshadowed all his rational thinking.
“We can’t do this! This…” You shook your head, licking your slightly swollen lips that bore witness to what had just happened. “We cannot happen. We have to forget about this.”
“So, you’re not even giving this a chance?”
“That’s not it, Eddie, I already told you!” Oh, you wanted to give it a chance, give him a chance, because that kiss had already sent you to heaven. “But we can’t! This cannot happen again. Not as long as I’m your teacher!”
At that, Eddie’s ears perked up. “So… once you’re not my teacher anymore… we do have a chance, right?” “What?”
“That’s what you said, didn’t you?”
“I mean… yes. But I’ll be here for the rest of the year.”
“And I’ll graduate then. So I won’t be your student no matter what happens.”
“Well… that might be true, but…”
“Alright. Just can’t promise you that I won’t try now and then.” The way Eddie smirked at you made you press your legs together. He really had an effect on you that nobody else ever had.
“Just… this cannot happen again.”
“Okay.”
“Do you hear me, Mr Munson?”
“I do.” But the grin on his face told you that he wasn’t exactly listening to what you were saying. This wasn’t going to be easy at all.
“Good.” There was no use in trying to talk to him right now. Not when his eyes roamed your body again and his hands reached for yours. But this time, your head was clear enough to pull back from him, put some distance between you. “Thank you for this.” You took off his jacket and handed it back to him, before you slowly back up towards the door again. “I’ll see you in class.”
“Have a good night Miss Y/L/N.” Eddie said with a wink, arms crossed over his chest, while his eyes dropped to the swell of your butt when you turned around to open the door.
That was really going to be a long couple of months until the school year was over, and as much as you just wanted to forget about it, you knew that what had just happened would fuel a lot of dreams. At least, you could talk to Sandy about it, because she knew what had happened the moment she saw you come back through the door. Eddie would be your downfall, you were sure of that.
Hello hello and happy Friday!
I am so excited to welcome my friend @fictional to the library! She's not only one of my favorite authors and artists, but one of my favorite people. You might also know her by her ao3 username, milkandhoney. She's brought us an amazing rec and I'm so excited to share it!
Like a recent anon (who was given excellent recs!) I’ve also been on a Pride & Prejudice kick. How could I not? It’s the original enemies to lovers -- a masterclass in prickly barbs and pining glances. And while I expected as much, the story I’m reccing, How to Overcome Pride and Prejudice in Eight Weeks by gglow has that and so much more. It takes the central conceit and places the reader outside of it, where Austen’s story pulls double duty as 1. a modern day set piece in the form of an undercover book club, and 2. an analogy used by the main characters to talk through the underlying romantic conflict.
Okay okay, that might sound a bit confusing. What you really need to know is that Harry and Draco are Auror partners on an undercover mission, trailing a suspect by any means necessary. Those means just happen to be disguising themselves as people who enjoy discussing why Mr. Darcy has zero social skills. But don’t think our favorite wizards are just sitting around with their ankles crossed -- there’s plenty of spicy moments and action, and scenes that combine the two (gentle spoiler: Harry is a himbo/gym rat with delicious abs who makes use of the showers. You’re welcome.)
How to Overcome Pride and Prejudice in Eight Weeks is basically a list of my favorite things: detective work, polyjuice, magical cats, jealousy, ensemble casts, a forest worth of pining and desperate shagging. The prose is clever, snappy, and immediately pulls you in. I adore stories that bring you into a character’s world. That tells you who they are, without holding your hand. Harry and Draco both feel like complete people with lives beyond each other and their work, but in the same vein, you can see how much the outside factors amplify who they are, and why Draco and Harry work so well when they’re together.
If that all weren’t enough, more icing on the cake: gglow is new to me! I literally found them this month while scrolling the Drarry tag! And they have more stories in their archive, which means if you enjoy this one, there’s even more Drarry to consume! How cool is that??
I’d love to geek out over their work with friends, so please feel free to slide into my DMs to discuss! Thanks again to DrarryLibrarian, for the opportunity to share this gem with you all <3
How to Overcome Pride and Prejudice in Eight Weeks by gglow (69,660 words, rated T)
After four years of working together as rookie Aurors, a major case falls onto the desk of Harry and Draco’s cubicle. When they end up in a Pride and Prejudice book club on the tail of their suspect, both men get more than they bargained for: The legendary Jane Austen’s depiction of character draws out an awkward secret Draco’s been nursing for the past four years, and forces Harry to face the realities of his failing relationship with someone else.
Will they manage to navigate their first-ever high-stakes case while preserving their gentlemanlike manner? And most important of all… will they be able to overcome their pride and prejudice in eight short weeks and learn from one of the greatest Muggle authors that ever lived?
Thank you to the wonderful @fictional for joining us in the library for Happy Hour!
❤️ As always, if you find a fic you enjoy, please remember to leave the creator a kudos or comment ❤️
Lots of Love and Happy Friday!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
168,990.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently, mainly the Jane Austen fandom (particularly Pride and Prejudice and Emma).
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
In (not so silent) indignation (Pride and Prejudice): Mr Collins times his visit to Longbourn a few weeks earlier, altering the events of the Meryton assembly.
A Timely Intervention (Pride and Prejudice): When an attempt to evade Mr Collins’s proposal puts Elizabeth in an uncomfortable predicament, Mr Darcy’s appearance on the scene obliges her to re-evaluate his character.
Misconduct and Misdirection (Pride and Prejudice): Mr Gardiner’s business obligations are resolved more favourably than in canon, and Elizabeth’s trip to the Lakes goes ahead as planned. When the news of Lydia’s elopement arrives, a longer journey back allows time for recollections and realisations. Meanwhile, the rumours about a Miss Bennet’s elopement have spread as far as Derbyshire...
Blossoming Affection (Pride and Prejudice): It is a truth universally acknowledged that a young man afflicted by the lovers’ disease must be in want of a handkerchief. (A light-hearted Hanahaki AU.)
A Very Good Scheme (Emma): When leaving the Christmas party at Randalls, Emma recruits Mr Knightley’s help to avoid a tête-a-tête with Mr Elton. As a consequence, the events of the following weeks unfold rather differently than in canon.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I love getting comments and always reply. The only exception is when someone reads through one of my finished multi-chapters and comments on every chapter. In that case, I just reply to one or a few so I don’t spam the commenter’s inbox with a dozen “Thank you!” messages.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably A murderer’s hands, which is just an angst fest overall.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics have at least moderately happy endings, but I think A Timely Intervention takes the prize. It has a happy ending for the protagonists, the antagonists suffer nothing worse than a slight romantic disappointment, and significant angsty canon events are avoided.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I haven’t received any so far, and I hope it stays that way. I’ve kind of braced myself for negative comments with certain Jane Austen fics featuring non-canon ships, but fortunately the haters have left them alone.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not very often, but when I do, it’s not very explicit and usually either bittersweet or very humorous.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Occasionally. Sadly, I haven’t written any particularly crazy ones, but I do think that my two-part Sense and Self-Interest series is pretty fun!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I know. I think the Amazon fic thieves in the Austen fandom generally target novel-length fics. My stories tend to be on the shorter side, so maybe that has helped keep them safe.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! The Family Business, Rowan flower and Much Cause for Contentment have all been translated into Russian. The translator of The Family Business even added some helpful translator’s notes explaining various Finnish and Nordic cultural references, so they really went the extra mile!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
A friend and I once played around with ideas for a coffee-shop AU of the film Halloween 6, but it never progressed beyond a few unposted snippets.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Such a tough question! The first ship that I really became obsessed with was Lalli Hotakainen/Emil Västerström, and I’ve also read lots and lots of Yuuri Katsuki/Viktor Nikiforov and Eric Bittle/Jack Zimmerman fic. Lately, my two big obsessions have been Emma Woodhouse/George Knightley and Aral Vorkosigan/Cordelia Naismith. However, if I have to pick just one, I think I’d have to say Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy because I’ve been into it for such a long time and it’s inspired so many of my fics.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My “Kitty thinks Darcy is evil” AU, a very silly post-canon Pride and Prejudice fic. Other plot bunnies always seem to take precedence over it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I’m pretty good at characterization, humour and Austen pastiche.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Actually getting anything written. I’m a procrastinator and a bit of a perfectionist, which is a terrible combination. My writing progress tends to be very slow.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
It can work well (and be a fun Easter egg for multilingual readers) if done in a way that makes sense. Otherwise it’s just annoying and confusing for the reader. In my opinion, it can be a good way to signal that other characters are speaking a language that the point-of-view character doesn’t understand, but just a few words are usually enough. After that, it’s better to just specify in the narration that “the angry little girl in red and the white, furry hippopotamus continued to squabble in their peculiar language while Mr Darcy looked on in puzzlement” (or whatever is appropriate to the story and the situation). I included the occasional word in Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian or Icelandic in my old Stand Still, Stay Silent fics, but never anything that the reader really needed to understand.
Also, a plea to anyone who’s reading this: please, please don’t machine translate dialogue into a language that you don’t know and slap it in your fic. You have no way of knowing if the output is correct and/or sounds natural. I’ve seen this done with Finnish and Swedish, and it was such a pet peeve of mine because the “translations” were usually terrible.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Stand Still, Stay Silent.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
This is also a tough question because I’m unashamedly proud of all of them. But if I had to pick just one, maybe A Very Good Scheme. I feel that the premise is really fun and that I managed to tell the story in an entertaining way. I’m just really happy with the way it turned out.
I will tag @storytilly (if you are so inclined) and anyone else who sees this and wants to play.
Note
may i ask here for fic recs from you? any ship, any tags. i do trust your judgment very much and dearly love everything that you write. it's so difficult to find something that captures me as intensely as your art does :'( if it's too much of a hassle to share, maybe a top 5? or if you have answered this before already, pardon me and ignore all of this. thank you nevertheless and bye <3
a top 5 fics is really hard, i do read a lot. i've shared many mh recs in the past so i won't share them again but i can share same that i really liked from other fandoms. in no particolar order btw
Prevenient by bazooka (only available to people with registered ao3 accounts) and in general all their ancient bakery au: the fandom is seungkyunkwan scandal but you don't need to know much about that to understand the story since it's an au. it's a three parts story and i think in total it'll be like 150k? maybe more? but written so well it makes me cry
(after a while) you learn by curledupkitten (kittebasu): it's an exo fic and again the pairing or whether you know them or like them doesn't matter, it could easily be an original. it's one of the fics that inspired me the most when writing modern aus because i want my characters to be seen and understood the way they made me understand theirs
anything written by dirgewithoutmusic on ao3: they most write short works and they have a lot of different fandoms like marvel, narnia, hp, lotr... i love their voice. the way they say things when writing makes me want to listen forever. they have also written an original fantasy book series which i have read and really liked, but they tend to stay on the short side on ao3.
A hit, a very palpable hit by Shem: the fandom is Pride and Prejudice, the main ship is Kitty/OC, and boy I never say I have favorite books or movies but I think P&P is my favorite book and I love every variation of it but it's hard to read fics because the writers can rarely reproduce the genius of Jane Austen's words and her wittiness and everything that makes me love the books, but Shem does it right. I've read everything by this author but this is my favorite of their works. Not recommended if you aren't into P&P tho ahah
Sansûkh by determamfidd: fandom is LOTR, and like above, if you like LOTR you will love this fic.
Random extra rec:
i could whet your appetite by beizhaan: fandom is MDZS, it's a alpha/incubus au and tbh I could've put a lot of fics here but since I was really unsure I was looking at my bookmarks and this piece stood up because the s3x was good ahah so I included it.
I would've included more het fic recs because I do read them, but most of them would've been hp fics and I'm not actively reccing hp anymore to boycott jkr
Hope this gave you some food, I tried to keep the recs diverse since idk which fandoms you could be into but idk if they're as interesting for other people as they are for me :v
Bran I Update
No progress today yet, so the chapter won’t be up tonight. We will see if I get a second wind after dinner, or I might try to write in a frenzy tomorrow morning.
In other news, I spent the last few days finishing my rereads of Sense and Sensibility and Emma :/ all of them have delightful social commentary and some incredibly sharp prose, but I definitely still prefer Pride and Prejudice of the three.
Sense and Sensibility feels far less polished than the other two, and Edward/Elinor lacks the substance and compelling warmth of the friendship between Elinor and Colonel Brandon. I mayyy have read the entire Elinor/Brandon tag on Ao3, small as it was, and come away wanting more. Meanwhile, while Brandon’s character is lovely and his pining is sweet if you don’t think too much about the age gap, Marianne/Brandon is such an after thought, with any romance and meeting of the minds left to the hazy few sentences of the epilogue.
Emma, while overall better written than Sense and Sensibility, I somehow like less. Knightley/Emma is a better ship than any of those in Sense and Sensibility, but I like the side cast of Sense and Sensibility far better. I will also admit to having a stronger preference for Elinor as a heroine then for Emma, although I do find Emma sympathetic and appreciate her growth.
I’ve never read Jane Austen’s other works; maybe I’ll check them out once I’ve got Bran I wrapped up 🤔
Was tagged by @illusivesoul – thanks so much! ❤️ Now that AO3 is back up and running, I can finally do this tag game LMAO!
I'll tag @barbex, @storybookhawke, @pinkfadespirit, @sarahawke, @aria-i-adagio, @faux-fires, @charlatron and @ziskandra ❤️ Anyone else who wants to do this – consider yourselves tagged! ❤️
Rules: Give us the links to your wonderful words with the Most hits, Most kudos, Most comments, Most bookmarks, Most words, and Least words.
Most Hits, Most Kudos, Most Comments, Most Bookmarks, Most Words:
A Chance Engagement (Regency AU Carver/Merrill)
It probably surprises absolutely nobody that this longfic-in-progress is (still) my top fic for all the above. At 114,000 words, it's my current longest WIP and pure self-indulgence: a Regency AU Carver/Merrill fic following the plot of Jane Austen's novel Pride & Prejudice, with a side-plot of Marian Hawke/Isabela. I'm forever surprised and delighted so many people followed me along for the ride! ❤️
Unfortunately the fic stalled after I moved home and renovated our new place (taking a LOT of time and energy and was very exhausting!), and stalled after I realised I didn't remember anything from Dragon Age: Origins in order to write the next part of the story... but now I've finished playing DA:O (and well and truly jogged my memory), I hope to get Chapter 57 finally finished and posted to AO3 soon.
Least Words (for fanfic):
A Pirate's Touch (Aveline/Isabela)
I wrote this 234-word ficlet for a former friend many years ago. Rated T, Isabela gives Aveline a massage after a hard day at work.
Least Words (for all works):
I also have two artworks with zero words, just my fanart:
Garrett and Anders Do It In The Hanged Man (M!Hawke/Anders, canonverse, explicit); and
7:00AM (Carver/Merrill, Modern AU, explicit)
